I love Juan, Thur, 5/1 - In which a remora attaches herself to el Rey Tiburón

Today's beginning is yesterday's ending as described by Maricruz:

Juan overhears Marely and Sandro’s conversation and tells him that he is sorry but the time to turn in curriculums has passed. Marely corrects Juan and tells him that the list for the VP position is still open. Juan tells Sando to follow him, once in the office Juan tells Sandro that he shouldn’t get his hopes up, because they have a lot of candidates. Sandro tells him that he understands and that he would really appreciate whatever opportunity they can give him. He leaves, and Juan thought bubbles that he doesn’t know why he was so rude to Sandro. Is it maybe because he is afraid that Sandro will capture his Palomita’s heart?

Today:
Paula explains to Ana why she invited Ivonne to stay with them. Ana, surprised but ever gracious, welcomes Ivonne into their home. Ivonne says she will try not to be a pain, then she tells Las Dávila that they are a blessing.

Anga calls Pastor to ask him what he thinks about him (Anga) offering Nidia a job. Pastor says why bother, clearly Nidia has a thing for that guy Lorenzo. How could she not? She is, after all, Nidia Cachón. He doesn't mean to be cruel but he wants Anga to be psychologically prepared to fall to pieces. Anga sadly replies he's already broken himself to pieces.

Nidia and Lorenzo make goo-goo talk on the phone. He invites her to a bohemian cafe to read poetry and Nidia gushingly agrees. Could these two be more wrong for each other? Lorenzo loves his idea of the perfect woman and Nidia loves the attention, but that's it.

Paula fills Ivonne in on Sandro Arenas (Sandy2). She kindly tends to Ivonne and tucks her into bed. After she leaves Ivonne thanks God (that she is being cared for, not that Paula's leaving...I think).

Marely and Sandy2 flirt innocently while Fer, scowling, looks on.

Downstairs, Ana asks Paula why she brought Ivonne home after Ivonne always gave her such a hard time. Ana is impressed by Paula's generosity, especially when she hears that Ivonne is being treated for cancer.

Juan (scratching his back with his favorite back-scratching statue) and Fer talk about Sandy2 being Fer's rival for VP. Fer tries to get Juan to tell him some of the interview questions in advance but Juan won't do it. OK, Juan CAN'T do it because he doesn't know what they are, that's Paula's job. He says he's sorry but how can he ask questions on a subject about which he knows nothing? Fer decides to fight for the job, he just hopes Paula won't hold it against him that when he was a chauffeur he spilled the soup about her and CL. Juan is indignant, the Licenciada is a just woman who would never confuse magnesium with gymnasium. (La magnesia con la gimnasia. Anybody have a clue what this means?) They stuff pink marshmallows in their mouths.

Marely goes to Pastor's office to tell him they have the paperwork on all the VP candidates except for him. She needs his resume, education, etc. Pastor acts insulted. Everybody already knows his capabilities (Oh dear, I wouldn't brag honey)! Marely is just following orders. After she leaves he bites his nails and wonders what he's done with his documents. (Ahem, he's the director of HR; shouldn't he have his and everyone else's documents in the personnel files?)

Warning: the following scene was over my head so please feel free to correct my translation. Heriberto enthusiastically submits his resume to Marely for the VP job. He seems to misunderstand what it means to show Licenciada Paula his curriculum. He says he may be a rancher (or shy) but he has his pride! Marely tries to enlighten him but he blusters on, he is giving her a paper with his details, education, etc. Naturally our randy rancher can't pass up this opportunity to tell Marely what he really needs is a female, one with hair the color of a corncob. He strolls away growling lustfully while Marely crosses herself.

Anga brings Ivonne some hot tea and Ivonne apologizes for being a raging bitch to both Ana and Paula.

Marely brings the resumes to Paula who is shocked and amused to see Heriberto Chavez amongst the candidates. Marely tells her that Sandy2 was the most prepared of all the candidates. (Coached by CL no doubt.)

CL visits what is apparently the only salon in Mexico City. It's the same one where Pastor goes and where Juan got his haircut. The overtly gay dude in a blue fedora tells CL he's just perfect, he wouldn't touch a hair. CL rudely says he needs a new look and he wants his hair dyed, is that clear "Señora"?

Fer calls Ivonne and scolds her for not telling him where she went. He went to the hospital then her house and couldn't find her. He teasingly says he's furious but will visit her at the first opportunity.

Paula updates Juan on the candidates. Juan says their own rooster (Fer) is looking pretty good, no? Paula answers that Sandro is the most prepared. This is Juan's cue to make Paula jealous. He says he has an appointment...elsewhere. Paula assumes it's with the mystery mujer, rolls her eyes and leaves. Juan basks momentarily, but his 'victory' is shallow and he knows it.

Juan meets Juanito after school and watches proudly as Jito gives Flor a little kiss goodbye.

Paula pumps Marely for info on the mystery woman. Two dates in a row! Paula suspects that the mystery woman is fabricated. Nobody has seen her or even knows her name. She asks Marely to discreetly find out if Julia knows any details. Marely really doesn't like this sort of work assignment.

Juan brings Juanito to Casa Cachón but unfortunately Nidia has flown the coop. Alirio gripes profusely that she has abandoned her sacred hearth for an alleged interview. Juan wonders if Alirio would mind... No! Alirio yells he will not play nanny again! Juanito says fine, he doesn't want to stay with Mr. Loudmouth anyway.

Oh dear, Nidia and Lorenzo are in the cafe waxing poetic and gazing at each other. It's gross. Enough said.

Laura's doorbell rings. Third time's the charm! She seductively opens the door. "You finally arrived," she says coyly. Juanito pops into the doorway grinning widely. Whoopeee, a date with dad! Laura sighs. She's getting schooled on the dating habits of a single parent.

Sandy2 arrives home and is disconcerted at CL's transformation from CL to Sandy2. CL claims it's because he needs to fool the staff when he comes and goes but I think we all know better. Samdy2 gives CL an update on Farell and says he understands why CL was a womanizer, the women at Farell are hot! CL insists his wife is the hottest. Sandy2 says she's OK, but her secretary Marely is enchanting and sweet. CL demands that Sandy2 concentrate on Paula and nobody else!

The Juans are eating lunch at Laura's pad. She has a surprise for big Juan, it's a sculpture she made especially for him! He pulls it out of the bag and stares, baffled, que the hell is it? "Oh lovely," he lies, holding it to his head like a phone. Juanito thinks it's a horrible monstrosity, yuck! Laura is thrilled that Juan likes it, it's called Sirena de Amor and was inspired by the beach, the sun, the waves and the perfect body of a woman. (Yikes, I'm with Juanito on this one.) Juanito says he doesn't see a mermaid in the sculpture. Laura tries to give him a tutorial on interpretive art but Juanito is done with school for the day.

Laura takes this lunch opportunity to remind Juan that she would be the perfect candidate for the position of VP.

Marely tells Paula that Julia doesn't know who the mystery woman is. Paula whines until Marely agrees to see if Fer knows.

Fer wasted no time in visiting Ivonne. He strokes her hair and says he's nervous about the VP interviews. By the way, CL's twin brother applied. Ivonne wonders why, he's rich now. Fer suspects Sandy2 of trying to weasel his way into Farell.

Marely and Paula are at lunch. Marely can't believe that Paula invited Ivonne to stay with her; it's like sleeping with the enemy. Paula gives Marely a lecture on the merits of forgiveness. (Does Paula not know her sister? Nobody is more forgiving than Marely.) Marely gets miffed and rightfully so. She asks Paula what she has against Las Cachón. She can forgive everybody in the world except her mother Nidia, is that it? Paula says it's different because Ivonne is alone.

Laura clings to Juan like a remora and tells him she's serious about working at Farell. Ceramics is only a hobby and it doesn't pay the bills. "And I know why," pipes up Juanito as he plays with Sirena de Amor. Laura tells Juan if she gets the job then they can be close every day. This startles or annoys Juanito so badly he throws the sculpture on the ground and breaks it. Juan sternly tells his son they will discuss this later! His voice is stern but he looks pleased about the smashed statue.

When the Juans return to Farell Juanito expresses his dislike of Laura.

Marely tries to find out if Fer knows any details about the mystery woman. If Fer knows he's not telling.

Nidia and Lorenzo are still on their stupid date when Nidia remembers she has to go home right away, it's time to eat and nobody knows where she is. Lorenzo gives her his phone number and kisses her hand. (Oh my, do we suppose that this number will be discovered at an inopportune moment?)

Fer goes to Juan's office and divulges that none other than Marely was asking for details on Juan's mystery woman. Juan is impressed. His little rose garden is jealous!

No no no, Fernando corrects him. Marely is neither jealous nor a gossip. Fer suspects that someone is behind Marely pulling the strings and that someone is Paula. Juan smiles broadly, aha!!

Juan goes to Paula's office and he's holding a red folder. He preens and tells her he had an absolutely delicious lunch. The snails were exquisite and the company divine. Paula snaps back that she's busy, what does he want?

Juan reveals that he has another applicant for the VP job. She is a Very Dear Friend so will Paula accept the resume? Paula opens the folder and is muy impactada at the name. "Laura Berrocal is your friend?" she asks, dismayed and put-out.

Tomorrow: Surprisingly, Juan and Paula argue over Laura's resume. Yawn.

A remora attached to a shark. You almost never see these suckers swimming alone. They are always attached to some other creature. They are relentless in their desire to latch on.

Caerse a pedazos = To fall to pieces, to be destroyed
Hacer pedazos = To break to pieces
Dar la lata = To be a pain, to pester
Griton = Loudmouth
Ranchero = Rancher, also shy
Una vida de cuadritos = a hard time, a hard life

I must be getting uo too early, again, the first one out of the gate...Seems like they are running out of good ideas for plot material, more and more filler; but they character of some of the charactors is showing improvement. Namely Paula and ivonne. Nidia has regressed, the rest- who knows... I did enjoy the Juans at lunch- anything to discourage Laura. little Juanito can almost steal a scene...I found the scene with Heriberto about as you did, over my head, too. I didn't understand much of what he was blabbing about, and only caught the end where he commented my Marely and the color of her hair, etc. He is such a rough-sawn baffoon, great comic character. If we get interviews tinite, they should be interesting with Juan wanting his buddy Fer, Paula wanting Sandy2. Do we see another obstacle/impass?

Sylvia,

Thank you for your kind comment and making me feel like a valuable member of the team!

Sylvia, thanks for the great recap! Great vocabulary list and fabulous picture of a remora!

“He invites her to a bohemian cafe to read poetry and Nidia gushingly agrees. Could these two be more wrong for each other?” Absolutely right, the couldn’t be more wrong! Nidia is sure grasping at straws here, or something! If Lorenzo only knew how far from perfect Nidia is, he’d be so scandalized!

“After she leaves Ivonne thanks God (that she is being cared for, not that Paula's leaving...I think).” LOL! One wonders. It’s very hard to picture Ivonne changing so much.

“Fer tries to get Juan to tell him some of the interview questions in advance but Juan won't do it. OK, Juan CAN'T do it because he doesn't know what they are, that's Paula's job.” LOL!

“the Licenciada is a just woman who would never confuse magnesium with gymnasium. (La magnesia con la gimnasia. Anybody have a clue what this means?)” Nah, I thought it was pretty odd—another Juanism?

“After she leaves he bites his nails and wonders what he's done with his documents. (Ahem, he's the director of HR; shouldn't he have his and everyone else's documents in the personnel files?)” LOL! Details, details. Why should it matter when one is so self-assured?

“Warning: the following scene was over my head so please feel free to correct my translation. Heriberto enthusiastically submits his resume to Marely for the VP job.” No, you got this pretty much as I understood it. It left Marely bemused, too.

“Sirena de Amor” This was the STUPIDEST thing I’ve ever seen. What’s more, I doubt she made it on that wheel, not with the shape it was.

“A remora attached to a shark. You almost never see these suckers swimming alone. They are always attached to some other creature. They are relentless in their desire to latch on.” ROTFL!!!! Yep, Laura is a sucker!

Nicolás, welcome to C2 and recapping! I'll have to get over to Fuego and see what you've done!

Oops, sorry about the double name, Jeanne2.

Jeanne (not 2)

I guess we are closing in on the end of this Telenovela.... I will predict, CL will be exposed impersonating Sandy2, by not touching his glasses, Clark Kent Style, and showing interest in Paula, not Marely.....

I see a bad ending for CL, but a good ending for Sandy 2.... Good vs. Evil, Good usually win.
I think Paula and Juan will sell the business and end up in the "hinderlands". Sandy 2 will marry Marely, Fern will marry Ivvonne, Ana (who has a nice milkshake too) will marry Willy, and Kike will end up with Julia.(Pound for pound, Julia's milkshake may be the best on this show...even better than Paula's)

A lot can happen in the next few weeks, this show could go on for another 3 to 4 months, with the posible story lines available..

Jeanne, I thought for a moment there you were channeling Sandy2.

Agreed about Juanito being the scene stealer. Who was it said never share a scene with a kid or an animal? However Eduardo Santamarina seems to relish his scenes with Juanito. Smart guy. He must realize that when one of them shines they both shine. The kid is about a million times more talented than most telenovela kids we see.

I find both Juan and Heriberto very difficult to understand.

Dorado Dave, the other obstacle is of course our lovely remora Laura.

Anon#1, you really crack me up with your observations. I like your romantic pairings. Here's hoping...

Great recap Sylvia!! The thing with Heriberto has to do with the word curriculo (curriculum) being very similar to a "R" rated word for butt in Spanish, so he said that if he had to show his butt to the licenciada then he wouldn't apply. I hope this helps.

Hey Nicolas, I won't be watching Fuego (I need my beauty sleep ;)) however I'll be reading the recaps. Good luck and remember you ARE a valuable member of the recappers team.

Sylvia, hee, hee! Maybe subconsciously. I like Sandy2. He's one of the good guys.

Anon #1, I hope you are right and CL leaves us permanently and Sandy2 hangs out!

From last night's comments, I'm also not ready to give up my pirate name or the memory of Ricardoooo.

Jeanne

Sylvia, I am reading this late. I've been framing and setting up my photos for the art show this weekend all day. However, let me not miss an opportunity to thank you for the super recap replete with vocabulary and a great photo of remora and shark. A read the title really fast the first time and thought a first you were spelling ramera wrong (that would work too in this case). HA! Leave it to you to give us a lesson about vocabulary and the SEA too. Thanks.

Well I gave up my brief pirate name when I realized that New Mexico was never going to have sea front (at least not for another million years or so. I went back months ago to just CherylNewMex but Willa is my symbol of hanging on to the last dreams of Fernando as the Pirate Prince. She and I are closing in on a new costume and picture sometime next week. It will take ever so much longer than that to get over my sense of loss.
Juan is as ridiculous as Fuego but not written so well. Good think I love this little Querendon team. And there is hope in sight of an end in a few months isn't there? I would like to call it a day with this before I go back to Spanish school in northern NM in the 3rd week of June. I haven't counted out episodes but I think Sylvia estimated an end around then. It is hard to compare because of the whacky interlinking they tend to do in Mexico of having half hour segments of the outgoing program meshed with half hours segments of the new. Maybe I will try to figure it out again.

Cheryl, I counted esmas.com recaps against where we are now last weekend and it was 7 weeks, más o menos, from a week ago. I figured it was to end around June 13 (Friday the 13th!!!). So......we'll see how close we are to esmas epi lengths.

Jeanne

I hadn't even thought of the similarities between remora and ramera. That's funny, and very appropriate!

Come on, where is last
friday's Juan's recap? It is three days late now, and last weeks' Wednesday and Thursday
were also late. What does it take to get you recapers on time?

Anon 7:41, apparently you didn't see our Blog Mom's response to your criticism of the recappers last week. Let me quote her response to you of April 21, which she posted on April 27:

"This is the Blog Mom, finally weighing in. I wish I'd seen the infuriating, ungrateful comment by Anonymous 6:25 sooner. Unbelievable. Dear selfish, self-absorbed reader, if you are not happy with what we provide, go elsewhere. Please remember we owe you nothing and if I pulled down this blog tonight (one click and the whole thing would be deleted forever) you would be mighty sorry. DO NOT CRITICIZE MY WONDERFUL RECAPPERS EVER! EVER!

And, to my wonderful recappers: please remember that most of the 888 people who log into this site every day ARE grateful, even if most of them never say so. Some, of course, do manage to make their pleasure known -- with those nice, courteous visitors, I am very pleased.
Permalink posted by Blogger melinama : Sun Apr 27, 09:41:00 PM EDT"

Let me further add that you can feel free to walk a mile in my TOTALLY VOLUNTEER recapping shoes, and those of every other TOTALLY VOLUNTEER recapper. When you feel ready to translate an hour of Spanish dialogue (using 12 dictionaries and taking as long as 13 hours of your "free time" to do it while you carry on your day job), let Melinama know. She always needs recappers.

Jeanne

Dear Anon 7:41,

Please go away. You are a laughable ignoramus and we are recappers, not recapers.

Recappers, IGNORE That Idiot Anonymous....Blog Mom, Zap him if you can.....

Man, I wish you had a way of blocking anonymous dufuses who complain if you hang 'em with a new rope. I've never been more grateful to find a website before than when I started to try to learn spanish using Yo Amo as a tool and found this FREE, ENTERTAINING, LOVELY recap site completely by accident (I was googling "chinches braves" to try and figure it out). I love you all, would never complain about the timeliness of a blog, and am super thankful that you do it at all!!!!

RONDA IN OREGON

Sylvia--you GO, girl!

Thank you, thank you, Anon #1 and Treebelly/Ronda. On behalf of each and every one of us recappers, thank you for your support!!!
