Pasión de Gavilanes, Mon., June 9 - Juan David gets baptized; Grabi enlists a new ally; Martín goes for a ride and Rosaio waylays Franco

Juan escorts Norma out of the hacienda and in a very nice scene Norma tells Juan that the baby will be baptised Juan David. Then Juan finds his brothers sitting on the stairs of the house when he goes back in. Very cute and funny.

In spite of Gabriela's protestations, the baby is baptised with Juan and his brothers present and there is a party at the Reyes hacienda afterwards.

It looks like not much stands between happiness for Norma and Juan so trouble has to come along in this case in the shape of Dínora who allies with Gabriela to separate Norma from Juan. Can you say evil witch woman? To start her campaign, Dínora comes over to see Juan and makes nice although it was funny the way he backed up to avoid contact when she came to congratulate him on the baptism of his child.

Fernando is making great strides in alienating all the workers at the Hacienda.

Martín (in his military uniform) gets a fun outing with Pepita until Gabriela has to spoil everything.

Óscar is neglecting business to work on getting Jimena back and Rosario lies in wait for Franco and Memo witnesses their meeting but fails to see where they went afterwards, which, of course, convinces Armando that Rosario is two-timing him.

Why is it that virtually all the activity on the Reyes ranch outside of the stables takes place right at that fence that borders on the Elizondo property?

The invitation to the re-opening of Leandro dress shop causes interest and consternation in many places. The incompetent assassins are are on the job again.

Tomorrow - love blooms for Franco and Sarita?

Once again I am on Gabri's side when it comes to being disgusted by Pepita taking Martin out to drink alcohol! And what really made me mad is that the girls were on Martin's side! Even Norma, who is supposed to be nice and sensible, said she thought nothing was wrong with this! I just couldn't believe it. I love Juan and Norma, but I really think Norma should be opposed to her grandfather drinking, especially with a woman who dances around suggestively at a bar. I know Pepita is trying to be a friend and help Martin, and that Martin loved this outing, but this is NOT a good thing to do. Guys like him drive me nuts. I think it's bad enough they had alcohol at the baptism party! Even Eva was drinking!

I thought there would be more going on in Juan's room after he swooped her up Friday, carried her in and closed the door. Didn't they DO anything? Lol. The next thing we see Monday is Norma saying she has to go! And then of course there was the scene where she told him about the baptism, which was really touching.

Things are heating up with the other couples. This is a really good show and I am enjoying it.

Okay, Juan and Norma actually DID something today--yay! And the DVD just swept right over it--didn't even include the romantic scene, or "the naughty bits" as they would say on Monty Python. This is why I am recording the TV episodes from now on. Still, the DVD set is really nice to have, if only to have clear, closeup shots.

It was a really action-packed episode today! With more to come tomorrow! Jimena and Oscar are hilarious, and Franco and Sarita are just about done "playing rough", as Juan called it. I do hate the violence, though--poor Franco always getting beaten up. Plus, he beat up Armando at one time. Even though Armando is a bad guy, this stuff about fighting really bothers me. Even Juan is a fighter--he's ready to duke it out with his brothers at any time. I don't understand guys like this--I have never known anybody in real life who has ever been in a fight or who would even think of punching somebody. I just hate to see these scenes on TV--I can't stand seeing people being hurt. I hope there is not too much more of this violence in the rest of the novella. (My motto: Less violence, more romance!)

FYI to the curious: The current broadcast of PdG has been edited differently than the original, which originally ran in the evening & not during daytime. To see what was edited out of Norma & Juan’s Friday to Monday tryst at Hacienda Reyes,(6/6 & 6/9, Episode 64) go to: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3i_iQnU-lQ&feature=PlayList&p=8AAC7E487A193E1C&index=69&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL. The first 3 minutes (or less) will fill you in…. ;-)

Why the heck would Norma send Oligario to the Reyes hacienda to give Juan a message about the baptism? They don’t have telephones? I understand this was to provide an illustration of how Fernando oversteps his authority as administrator at the ranch, but it struck me as a blatantly silly use of a ranch employee.

I loved it when Fernando showed up with Gabriela to drag Martín away from Pepita and she got right in Fernando’s face, saying she thought he’d been hired to be administrator of the ranch, not the “the little lap dog of the witch” Gabriela (“el perrito falda a ésta bruja!”). Good one, Pepita.

Re the Baptism: LOVED the moments with Juan holding his son in the church & during the party afterward. Sooooo sweet… I give him all the credit in the world for his restraint toward Gabriela when she went off on him right in the church. The woman is in need of some serious attitude adjustment. I don’t know if it was shown or not, but did you see at the party when Juan lifts the baby out of a stroller & hands him to Norma? It’s clearly a different, much younger baby than the Juan David we know. When I saw this I felt like our blond, blue-eyed Juan David had been baby-napped!

Marie Celeste, thanks for the You Tube link. All I have to say is, Dang! What is wrong with these editors?! I'm right there with Cindybin: More sex, less violence!

The Tuesday episode confirms my theory that Franco's the girl in his relationships! Now that Sarita saved his life, he better play nice and stop complaining about all the time she spends with the farmhands. You don't get that kind of shotgun aim by doing your nails!

I got a kick out of Jimena torturing Oscar! Hopefully this means she's ready to make up, now that she taught him how it feels to be lied to, and that they'll be happy for a while.

Alas, Dinora's little meddling may pose a monkey wrench in Norma's decision to marry Juan. I can definitely see our patroness of indecision go back to her concerns that he's not to be trusted. Hopefully it won't mess things up for long. Juan can always turn around and suggest she just move in so she can keep an eye on him ;) That may well land like a ton of bricks though...

I'm soooo happy Eva got to spend a little time with Ruth. At the rate her adoptive parents are going (and esp with Calixto's ever declining physical and mental health), she may well come to know the truth; possibly at one of their deathbeds.
