Doña Bárbara - Wed., Aug. 28: We see why Doña Bárbara doesn't like parties

I thought this was a great episode.

DB and Santos are about to surrender to their passion when the traveling 'prayer for Santos' parade arrives at El Miedo. In her new role as a civilized person, DB asks them to stay and party.

In a really cute (and hot) scene, Cecilia cuts her finger and Toño 'kisses it better' with a little rhyme that Cecilia would say when he was a child: "Sana, sana, culito de rana, un besito por la mañana." He didn't just kiss her finger, he was sucking on it.

DB sees this and congratulates Cecilia on being able to inspire passion in a man.

Juan Primito is upset because the 'rebullones' have flown away and doesn't know if they will come back. DB comforts him.

These were also great scenes where the people from the village get to see inside El Miedo for the first time. Josefa is not impressed with the furnishings while the priest unobtrusively sprinkles holy water on everything.

DB is angry that Pernalete and his buddies have upset Santos. She drops the bomb about his affair with Josefa, Mujiquita's wife.

DB demands that the priest (who was obviously having a good time) sprinkle holy water on the guests, his parishioners, because the demons they see in her are really in them. When the padre runs out of holy water, the party is over.

That night Cecilia has a dream about Toño tempting her to sin like Adam and Eve. (What sin? I guess because he is engaged to Federica. It isn't a sin to have a younger guy fall for you, it's a miracle!)

I have purposely not mentioned the already tiresome Luisana who apparently can only come to Altamire in somebody's private plane.

ITA agree with you Jean, that scene with Antonio tending to Cecilia's boboo was very hot ;) Thanks for the post and the pix.

I think Ceci feels this would be a sin because:
a) she's got close to a decade on him. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but she thinks there is. Silly wabbit.
2) Antonio's engaged to Federica, and foolish Ceci believed her lies telling her Antonio had promised her luuuv. Silly wabbit yet again!
3) She's still got a thing for Lorenzo. Mind you, she's not doing anything about that either! Silly, silly , silly wabbit. I think she needs to take a page from DBs book and just let her hair down and enjoy her life. She's been wearing that chastity belt entirely too long for her own good.

Figures the cowardly men of the town who perpetually cow-tow to DB would be thrilled at the thought that someone would make her "soft." Santos was genuinely disgusted as they told him to show her who wears the pants.

I think Luisana wants to take a plane because she's too prissy to travel by boat and canoe. I laughed as she told her dad she wanted to help the natives of the Amazon and he knew she was full of it ;) Sooo, she's using an admirer to go hunt after her ex? That's not tacky is it??!!!

Hi Jean,

remeber me from LT? I was just browsing and found out you are recapping DB. I don't watch it because I was watching EJ.

You made the best choice as to not to watch that one. It is the most ridicule and stupid novela of all.

the writers have twisted the plot so much is not even funny. It has become silly, stupid unwatachable. So, I stopped watching it as have most of the people that blog in TW.

I might give DB a try.

Hi Sue: Sorry EJ didn't turn out well. I'm not really recapping DB, we're just having discussions. So far I like DB a lot so 'come on down' as they say. The first episodes are still on the Telemundo website.

Sorry you didn't like EJ Sue. I'm actually ok with it at the moment, though the two leads can get very annoying. I saw a previous version (which was ages ago, so I don't remember all the particulars) called "El Amor Nunca Muere" (love never dies) but it started back when the Diego character (can't remember his name in that version) first arrived at Teodoro's house, so we had a longer back story and it took the Santiago character (I think his name in that version was Guillermo) a lot longer to realize he got the wrong cousin. With that revealed, I have no idea where they plan to go with it now, unless Santiago and Andrea plan to join forces against Alma and Esteban. I'll probably stick it out.

Back to this one, it occurs to me that under different circumstances, Ceci and DB could actually have been friends. Although they see the world very different, both are strong women who have overcome adversities and have reached a new stage in their lives. There is a lot they could learn from each other, provided DB can be redeemed and Ceci is ready to give herself a chance to be happy (oh yeah, and picks a galan from her two suitors!).

That was a good & steamy episode! For some reason it was shown again this afternoon. Great for me, since I believe in the curing powers of singing and kissing the boo boo.

Luisana is a big disappointment. I thought Santos would've picked someone more interesting. So far, she's a self centered, high maintenance silly girl.

ITA Margarita, the circumstances for Cecilia & DB would have to be different for them to be friends. I don't think DB could be anyone's friend right now, unless it suits her purpose. She's only decent when she's trying to impress Santos and get something she wants. DB has some good qualities gone really astray and she's a long way from redemption. Can she be redeemed after killing those men?

Is there really a choice for Cecilia? I thought Lorenzo was terminal...
jb

JB, yup, Lorenzo would be a short-term romance, unless he gets a liver transplant, and that's unlikely in such a remote land, but ya never know. Antonio would be the more practical choice for her, although she still sees Lorenzo as unfinished business IMHO. There is also the question of whether Melesio will support his son marrying an older woman. He wants more grandkids. Off course, Cecilia's still young enough that she could have a child if she wanted one, or they could adopt.

margarita c - thanks for replying about the women with veils in previous day's posts. I just finished watching the Friday afternoon short version and saw them, and realized it was a church thing.

I would looooove to watch this every night but am hopelessly hooked on FELS (do I need a Dr. Phil intervention?) and the comments here at Caray! I'll do my best to keep up with DB, though.

Question: Why has DB treated Marisela like dirt? This is her daughter, right? Who has done nothing wrong to her ...yet? Is it part of the "cold-hearted" DB persona?

I think DB will be redeemed. The guy she killed... Apolonio or something like that ... wasn't he the guy who raped her as a teen?

TIA,

doris

Hi Doris: I'll take a shot at your questions.
I think DB hates Marisela because she hates/despises Lorenzo and he fathered her. She didn't want to get pregnant. In the flashback scene where she gives birth, she is screaming to get the baby out of her. When Marisela is born, DB still doesn't want her. Taking care of a baby is the kind of womanly activity she despises. Now Marisela is old enough to be a rival for Santos so that isn't going to help anything.

No, Apolinar, I think that was his name, was DB's lover and he lent her the money to buy Lorenzo's hacienda but she had to pay him back within a year or she would lose the hacienda. Instead of doing that, she killed him.

She has also had killed one of the guys who raped her.

jean - thanks for the explanations. That really helps.

I can see (and justify) her killing the guy who raped her, but to kill someone she owed money to is just cold-blooded.
Eeew.

doris

I agree, Doris. You can sort of understand the desire to hunt down the guys who so brutally gang raped her (plus beat her half to a pulp). But killing Apolinar just to get him out of the picture and keep the hacienda. Can't see how they're going to redeem DB from that sin. And when she presumably arranges for Santos to see that headstone El Brujeador had put up, you know that falsehood is going to be revealed at some point.

Will be interesting to see if she offs the next guy who's showed up, the one to whom Balbino and Melquiades (El Brujeador) lost at cards in the cantina.

I watched Monday's episode and I'm surprised that Santos gave into the diabla! Just in time for the ex-girlfriend to show up in the Papa rebullone.

I sure hope things heat up with Antonio and Cecilia. She just needs to be happy about the 'miracle' of love she got...
