Guapos: Monday 9/1/08-- "Shortened recap in honor of Labor Day"

Snapshot version of last night's episode since it is the first day of school and I'm squeezing this in during lunch.... As always, please fill in the gaps.

Hugo and Mili fought as she is not too agreeable about being kidnapped and alone in a hotel with him. She ends up falling over (and through the glass barrier) the balcony. She's hurt badly and Hugo begs her unconcious body to forgive him.

Connie has his private detective looking for Rosario. The detective says he's been looking for her for years, she probably doesn't want to be found. Look anyway, Connie tells him, 'cuz she's alive.

Karla shows up at Macarena's club. She'll start dancing tonight, with on the job training. Mono comes in and sees her dancing. He tells Macarena that Karla visited Damian in prison.

During a family dinner it is reavealed that Rocky and Val will have a civil service first, then a church wedding later---it's a deal they made with Connie. Luci doesn't understand. Andrea insults the staff, particularly Gloria. Luci asks if she was as bad as that before, her children tell her yes. Connie's not happy about the idea of Mili moving out. He reminds everyone that she'll lose her inheritance. Damian reminds him that the money would go to Connie, so he could just give it back.

Rosela is worried because Braulio hasn't called to arrange her secret meeting with Mili.

Mili is rushed to the hospital. The good Doctor tells Hugo that she's in a coma and it is very serious---they don't know if she'll make it.

Hugo calls Al and the family goes rushing out to the hospital.

Socoritto is left with the baby and she fills Horacio in on what happened with Karla.

Al attacks Hugo at the hospital, Damian and someone else pull him off of his cousin.

Mili has an out of body experience. She meets up with Regina in the white light. Regina tells her that her mother isn't here. The doctor is able to revive her and bring her back (very dramatic stuff if you missed the episode).

Al goes in and professes his love to in-a-coma Mili. He tells her that their plan is to grow old together and she needs to fulfill her promise.

Connie kicks Al out and then confesses to an unconcious Mili that he's her dad. Val over hears and she seems happy that Mili's her sister, but sad that Connie hid it for so long.

Braulio goes to meet Rosela, to tell her the news. He checks out her assistant (he scanned his backside). He fills her in and she wants to rush to the hospital to see her daughter.

Al goes back in with Mili and has a flashback to their time on the deserted beach. END OF EPISODE.

Thanks for posting the summary. This was a VERY MELODRAMATIC episode. Somewhat ridiculously; I mean, I do not believe for a second that Mili is going to die, because this is more of a comedy. I can't see them going the super-tragic route.

But anyway, lots of brilliant acting all around. Except Rosela and her sidekick; I'm totally ambivalent about them. If this was a U.S. show, though, both Mili and Hugo actors could totally have used that fight scene as an Emmy reel and won. The guy who plays Hugo, in particular, I think has been totally brilliant lately--he is totally selling the crazy.

Obviously a life-changing day for Mili. I think that until this episode in the hotel, she never believed that Hugo would actually hurt her, or that she could be in a situation with him where she wouldn't be able to defend herself.

I am SO glad Val finally knows Mili is her sister. It's ABOUT TIME! I hope Mili doesn't have amnesia when she wakes up; we don't have time for that.

I started watching last year. My husband (bless him) was and is trying to learn Spanish and has purchased every dictionary and intro book imaginable. So, to keep him company, I started watching last year and am totally hooked. I speak no Spanish and was initially running for the dictionary every 2 seconds. Thank you to all of you who have been so dedicated in bringing these episodes to life for all of us. I am understanding an occasional word here and there and hope to get better in time. Your witty comments and recaps are so enjoyable and greatly appreciated. Looking forward to a happy ending for Mili and Al very soon. Diana in MA

Thanks for taking the time for this Cathy ;) I'm sure it's it's a ton of work to juggle schoolwork and recaps.

I wish I could be as concise as you are (I tend to ramble FOREVER) as you managed to get it all in ;)

The previews show Rosela pretending to be a nurse so she can see Mili.

Cathy: Thanks for the recap. You covered all the highlights.

Anyway, one thing I noticed was that Mili supposedly fell at least 8 or 9 feet (one story), yet everyone who has come in to see her has grabbed her, leaned on her, or squeezed her. I know the bandage was on her head. But, shouldn't she have other injuries that would be complicated by all this pulling, grabbing, squeezing?

Julia: You are absolutely right. We do not have time for an episode of amnesia - not even the kind that makes her forget crazy Hugo's bad behavior.

From lower Ala

Cathy – I agree with Margarita, you got it all in a nutshell.

Diana – how fun that you left a comment! Feel free to jump in any time.

Julia – I’m totally with you on your comments about the performances. And Friday the gal doing Karla was astonishing.

The good doctor was really something – this guy does it all. He makes house calls, and he even works the ER, paddles and all. I was worried about all that time passing where the doctor temporarily gave up and Mili was having her into the bright light experience. A girl could lose a lot of brain cells in that time.

Also, I was wondering how Regina could tell whether Rosario was up there in heaven, it was so foggy.

Karla sure got the hang of the dancing right away, and what amazed me is that they had a costume for her in her cup size. I mean, those other ladies sure were well-endowed.

And I sure wish Rosario/Rosela had brought another pair of shoes from Italy. Those things are slutty, not to mention hideous.

Excellent recap, Cathy--although very brief, it really got everything in. Once again, Connie was heartbreaking in his confession to comatose Mili. I was very touched by Val's reaction. How is Hugo going to escape punishment, and Andrea too!

Poor Karla--what a degrading situation. In real world, most pole dancers/strippers have been abused. I'm a sucker for all the characters except for Damian and Andrea (and maybe Hugo).

Rosella's disguise is ridiculous. In the coffee shop, when she says she's waiting for her daughter, the waitress gave her a funny look, as if she were saying "What's up with that silly wig and glasses?"

P.S. I forgot to comment on Hugo's reaction: This was another one of those scenes where someone forgets to call 911 right away.

Val asked her father "Who are you?" as she couldn't fathom his failure to acknowledge Mili. Yet Val has come a long way too. I can hardly believe we used to call her Snobby Spice.

Nina, I thought the same thing. Call the ambulance already! Seconds are critical in an emergency! And I was cringing when everyone was hugging and leaning on Mili. She would have to have some bruising and probably a muscle strain or two, at the very least.

Maggie, those costumes don't exactly COVER the other dancers. I think they're one size, close enough.

I forgot to mention my other favorite performance of the episode--Socorro crying about Karla being all alone and pregnant and angry and it being all her (Socorro's) fault. Normally I hate crying scenes but I thought she got it just right.

Is it possible that Mono is Karla's father? I think we discussed that before but I can't remember how likely we thought it was. He was on the scene back when Macarena and Socorro/Amparo were dancing, which was right before S/A left because she was pregnant. Also, the way he was noticing her seemed possibly foreshadowing. It would tie him into the story more, and this story can't end until everyone is connected to everyone else in 17 different ways in a big Gordian knot.

There was one point where they were giving leads that made us think Mono was Karla's father, but that seems unlikely now--as he is turning out to be a nice guy.

Hmmm, you're right. But maybe he knows the guy in question.

I thought Karla's father actually showed up at the house...or gate....a long time ago and Socorro gave him money to go away. He looked old and certainly not a hulk like Mono.

I'm disappointed that they changed actresses to play Mili's mom. The first actress chosen is good (she was in the opening credit shots). This one doesn't act well at all and that's going to take away from the pathos of the reunion I think.

I thought the same thing about people hugging and squeezing Mili---she's bound to have some internal injuries. And wouldn't they have guardrails up on her bed?

I think the actress who plays Socorrito is phenom. She really conveys emotion and not in a melodramatic way,

God forbid, I didn't even think about the possibility of amnesia coming into the story---Yikes!! I hope not.

Sorry for the brief recap, I was intending to do it from home, but my monitor decided to die last night. Thankfully I found out it was under warranty, but won't get the replacement for over a week. Anyone want to volunteer to cover next Monday's recap, as I don't think I'll be up and running by then?

Judy B – I think the guy who showed up at Casa Belmonte’s gate was someone who had protected Socorro after the guy raped her and I think he wanted hush money. But it was a long time ago and I’m not 100% sure…

Was it ever established whether the guy at the gate was Karla's dad or just someone else from Socorro's past? I can't remember anything about him now.

The vast majority of the actors on this show are great. Ricardo Margaleff (Rocky) should play a galan role next. He has terrific range and is very charming. Can you imagine how much better Enemiga would have been with him instead of Gabriel Soto? But maybe it's just me. The Val player, Altair something, same thing.

I would volunteer to sub next week, but my home computer situation is nonexistent at the moment. The new one I have chosen to order is somehow the one that is not in stock and won't arrive for two or three weeks. I hope that means that everyone ordered it because it is really good.

Actually, I will do the recap next Monday anyway, unless someone else wants to. It sounds like fun. I can just take notes and type when I get to work, which means it won't get posted until Tuesday mid-morningish. Someone would just need to give me the posting info.

I think the actors portraying Karla, Hugo and Vale are definitely ready to get leads in future shows. I’m not too sure about the Rocky actor because he hasn’t had the opportunity to show his range, but he’s very appealing and believable.

My memory also is that the guy at the gate was some guy from the past but not the father.

It's funny how our views of these actors have changed over months. I for one originally thought Rocky was just a caricature, but he developed depth as time went on and became very appealing and even better looking. I'm still not sold on Hugo, though. I can't shake the vision of him as Edward Albert on locoweed. I don't like his overly sensuous lips.
