QE 9-17 Wed..- Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me

OK folks, sorry to do this but I just got home to find that the machine did not record AGAIN, none of the three shows. I'm super annoyed, but I think I figured out the problem. If I turn the machine on to put in a fresh disc, and it doesn't get turned off again, somehow it doesn't know to set the timer and record as programmed. WTF. Soooo not fair, because here I think I'm securing myself while gone by putting in a new disc, making sure there's enough space for everything, because I won't be around to check it, but I'm actually screwing myself if I do it in a hurry and don't wait and make sure the machine shuts off. Argh!!!!!!

Anyway, I'll check you tube and post something tomorrow. Sorry I just don't have the patience tonight, but feel free to comment away.

Duh, and even put the wrong day and date. Can you tell how beat I was? Guess it was the three hours of Italian Opera. Anyway, Sailor SYL saves me AGAIN!!!!!!!!! What a gal!!!So without further adieu, here is your recap courtesy of SHARKBAIT!!!!!

Ern tells the kids they would be better off with Tia Gladys. Little Gina cries and Ivan is all "See I told you he didn't want us!" Just then Tia shows up to get the kids.

Later Ern is super guilt-ridden and cranky at work.

Sara runs into Lorena at school and lets her know that Al was sniffing around begging her forgiveness. Sara tries to threaten Lor and Lor goes "Wooooo I'm scared. How does it feel being the second course?"

Later on at school the director tells the students that the famous TV Chef (that Zully and Maru always watch) is holding some sort of contest where the students apply and audition and one of them gets an internship or spot on the show with him. Sara snottily tells Lor and Paty it will be she.

Later on at work Sara asks the head chef for help and he looks stricken.

Paula tells Raimundo that she's getting back with Dario. He takes it like a man and she seems kind of sad.

Omar pops a Viagra and starts to put the moves on a shocked Zulema but she reminds him they are supposed to go have dinner at Diana and Bruno's house. Doh!! He ends up not going so maybe he suffers from a priapism (wheeee, I finally got to use this word that I learned 30 years ago in first-aid class). Later on he has a super-bad headache.

Oh, this is cool, Chalo talks Barb into slumming with him. They go to a disco in a neighborhood where for sure none of her friends will see her. They have a great time. Really. Barb honestly cuts loose and enjoys herself. Not surprisingly Chalo is a wonderfully sleazy dancer and Barb tells him to stop calling her Patrooona and please call her Baaaarbara. Later they drunkenly stumble back into Evil Acres and whisper sweet goodbyes (no kissing yet). Later Barb rolls around in her bed ecstatically reminiscing about her night with the chauffeur. She says it was the most fun night she's ever had and she adores him!

The next day Barb is practicing dancing to Chalo's favorite band, Vasco sees her and starts dancing with her. It's kind of a nice mother-son moment.

The next cool thing. Jaqui actually moves in with Icky and his Ma. Ma is royally pissed off but Jaqui makes Icky say if she can't move in then he will move out forever. Later Ma tells Jaqui she's lazy and needs to help out and Jaqui is all "Hey I'm not the maid, you're the one who's rude, I don't like your tone and if you're mean to me I'll move out and take your son with me!" They have a smirk-off and Jaqui wins.Meanwhile Icky warns Sara about Vasco threatenining to go over the books with a fine tooth comb and they need to fix them, pronto.

Back up a little, Bruno told Diana that he couldn't be at the family dinner because he had to work, but when he gets home in the morning Diana busts him. She called work and he never was there. I think he said he slept in the car. They have ANOTHER fight. When they make up he makes a nasty look over her shoulder.

Rossy tells Lor that Julian plans to ask for her hand in marriage. Lor is happy until she goes back into the kitchen and Ogre Ern is on a rampage.

Zulema sees Omar's Viagra pill and he finally admits to her the embarrassing truth...he can't get it up. She's totally cool about it and insists they'll go see a doctor together. They see the doctor and we get a PSA on erectile dysfunction and all its possible causes. Omar is thrilled and announces his is most likely due to stress.

Crazy landlady Conchita tells Greta to make a move for Jaime. She actually says she wants one of her clients to strike a gold mine so they can help her out later if necessary.

Meanwhile Maruja proposes a business deal with Jaime. She will fund his ideas and they will start some sort of food-related business.

Augusta massages Snorty's hands and tells her to try to move her fingers, it will be another way for them to communicate. When Snorty discovers she can move her index finger her eyes get wide.

Sara sneaks a peak at Chalo and Barb flirting about the night before. Later Sara is nasty and insulting to him and he tells her all she is to him is an income. By the way where is the next installment?

Al gets bad news about his patient Florencia. He has to tell her she is too weak for a transplant. She cries that she's going to die and he begs her to keep the faith.

Last scene, Ern is obsessively cleaning the rug when Lor shows up. She wants him to fight for his sobrinos and bring them home. She tells him she feels he lied to his sobrinos and to her too. He threw them out like unwanted cats and he's such a crank she doesn't know what she's doing there either. I think she tells him maybe they should break up and he is muy impactado

Fuego, you might want to catch this one on youtube, it had some classic scenes. Here's a quickie from memory (Update:not all memory, I fast-forwarded through it this a.m.), hopefully others will fill in the blanks and correct errors if you can't:

Thanks Sylvia for the terrific pinch hitting comment/recap.

Boy Lorena sure has come a long way. I thought it was great of her to tell Ernesto what she really was thinking and even to threaten to break up with him. He really needs to shape up and be a man and drop the whole eogtistical and ogre thing. But my heart tells me, he is on the way out. And that 'noble' healer Alonso is going to have a second chance soon.

Also at one point Lorena told Rossy that she feels that Ernesto's lying to the children and breaking his commitment to them makes her afraid he would do the same to her. I'm afraid she's right. He is not a man who can tolerate any kind of frustration...
NJ Sue

Great recall Sylvia...I too enjoyed the disco dancing scene and the later scene of Barbara dancing with Vasco. I expected it to be cringe-worthy but it was fun, and the actress and actor playing Chalo and Barbara were good in their tipsy almost-kiss number at the base of the stairs. But I have a feeling Chalo's going to be making it up those stairs real soon!

Don't know where the Ernesto/Lorena thing is going. I actually have a lot of sympathy for his decision. Teenagers, even your own, are very difficult to manage. Someone else's VERY HOSTILE teenager is downright impossible. I think Ernesto could manage Alex and Gina... and would be happy to....but I can hardly blame him for passing Ivan on to Gladys...especially when that seems to be what Ivan wanted.

Wow, great substitute recap, thank you, Cap'n.

There was also a funny (to me) scene in which Sara types a pitiful love letter to Alonslow on her laptop. Then someone comes in (maybe it was the chef she needs to help her win the contest?). So she quickly shuts the laptop. After he leaves, she opens it and her little letter was erased. Too bad, Sara!

I'm actually a little sympathetic to Ernesto. I don't like his short temper in the kitchen one bit, but as for his decision not to fight for the kids in court, I don't know. Gladys is the exact same relation to the kids (she's the sister of the kid's father, right?). And no one said she lived out of town. Really, the grown-ups should just have gotten together and made the decision, announcing it mutually to all the kids. I could even see Ivan going with Gladys, and the little ones with Ernesto. That being said, I don't have any real experience in this, except that when I was a kid, my cousin's cousins' (not really related to me) parents were killed in a plane crash. The 2 little ones went with one aunt and uncle, and the older boy went with another aunt and uncle (my cousin's parents). This was just announced, there was no fighting, and everyone turned out fine.

Thank you Cap'n Sylvia for the excellent recap. I can't imagine being single and childless one day and having an instant family of 3 children the next. In suffering the loss of his sister and brother in law, Ernesto hasn't had time to absorb his own grief, let alone that of Gina, Alex and Ivan. He is probably still in shock and isn't really thinking too clearly. I don't doubt Ernesto loves the children and wants the best for them. I hope he is able to assess the situation objectively, adopt the children and work with Gladys (and hopefully Lorena) to raise them. NJ Sue, I agree with you that if Ernesto doesn't fight for custody, Lorena will leave him and go back to Alonso. I really hope that doesn't happen.

On another note, it was nice to see Vasco and Barbara dancing. In spite of how awful she is, I think she will be dancing a different tune when she finds out that it was Chalo who cut the breaks on the car that almost killed Vasco.

Also nice to see Jacqui get one up on Icky's horrible mother. I'm sure she'll be missing Valeria soon (if she's not already). Diana in MA

Hey that was a great re-cap! BTW, I'm Randy, I recently found Caray Caray, and have been reading over at "Fuego".

On a whim, (like I have the time!) I have been catching up on "Enemiga" by reading the great re-caps and comments, I've been having a great time and laughing a lot.

I'm loving the Hortensia stroke or whatever thing, this is the perfect role for her weird botoxed mouth, maybe she had one shot too many and they had to write in a non-speaking part for her! The nurse is great, can't wait to see her in a smack down with Sara.

I was also charmed by the Barbara Chalo thing, but I don't know where this can go. Maybe they're great for each other, he seemed to not to mind that she doesn't have any money.

Does anyone else think Lorena always looks really mousy? Where's the Televisa Hair Dye Dept.? They know how to do most awesome overdone makeup on everyone else but this girl always looks like a wet dishrag. Occupational hazards of being the professional virgen of the story?

I really liked the final scene with Lorena and Ernie. They both had good points and I was left not being sure who I agreed with, wow complexity, who would have thought?!
Randy, Seattle

Hey Randy....welcome to the line and we're all glad you found Caray Caray.

I don't mind Lorena's hair but I do hate her frumpy, middle-aged matronly outfits. Not sure what her figure is like (other than that she has a solid pair of Russian legs...shapely but solid!), but her outfits hide her figure rather than showing it off. Her frumpiness should be another clue that SHE is actually Zulema's child, not Sara.

On the actress playing Hortensia, our theory is that she had some very bad plastic surgery at some point. Check out her nose next time. It is bizarre and Mother Nature has never constructed one like that. Her downturned mouth may be from nerve damage during that same botched surgery or else she has suffered a minor stroke at some point. She actually does quite well in her speaking parts...a solid, effective actress.

Oh...and Mike...just found your last Tuesday comment. Actually we have used Trashy Women several times. The lyrics are awesome. It was a class favorite.

But keep on sharing those tips. You've already broadened my horizons!

Hey all, I posted Sharkbait's most excellent on the fly 'cap into my post so it will be seen right away. OK I'm wondering if she ever sleeps!! Up so early, writing stuff before work, and probably up late too? I don't have that fortitude. Kudos to Sylvia!!

Also welcome Randy! You've joined a veritable bunch of snarky, one screw loose folks who can't imagine what life was like before we all found each other to cheer on or pick apart Mexico's finest together. Hope you have a great ride with us!!

Hey thanks! Someone mentioned in an earlier thread that Snortensia is the same actress that played the Vilana in Cuna de Lobos, I believe that was one of the huge-est telenovelas ever and she was the baddest of the bad, I remember it from like 87 or so, she always had a color coordianted eye-patch!

So maybe Lorena will de-frump a little when she finds true love and her real family? Hope so! Her look is good for the sad little lamb role I'll have to admit.
Randy, Sea.

Welcome Randy! Always nice to see another male around, for the longest time I was the only one, reader or recapper. There are a few around now, so I am that much more secure in my masculinity.
Sylvia comes through again, as always, I'm not even surprised any more.
I agree with the Lorena look comments. She is more 'solidly' built than many of the other women, plus she is a professional virgin, so I guess that explains the ultra conservative clothing. One day she'll get some and she'll turn into short skirt/cleavage lady.

OK, here's my weird comment du jour.

I think that the Conchita character is being played by Walter Mercado of "Walter y Las Estrellas." Kind of a Puerto Rican Liberace kinda guy. Check him out on YouTube - looks good for a guy in 70's, speakin' of Botox.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2qQKKA-I68

Fuego & Sylvia, great teamwork! And welcome, Randy.

Well I know Walter and I've always found him very well made up and quite unisex so hey, maybe that is him.

Welcome Randy!!

NJ Sue, your point about Lor telling Rossy that Ern might be afraid of committment is key to her conversation with him later. Thank you for pointing that out. Also Hombre's addition about Sara's pathetic letter to Al...funny!

Mike, I think you've hit it on the head about Conchita. I always thought she looked odd, remember I originally called her "bad wig lady" or something like that. Anyway, I googled Mercado and appartently he made his fame reading tarot cards and doing astrology, so that totally ties in with Conchita. It must be Walter Mercado spoofing us. I like Conchita even more now, what a hoot.

The truth is sometimes I'm an insomniac (which I hate!)so I was up early roaming around when I saw Fuego's post. What started out as a 10 minute quickie turned into about a half hour but what the heck, I was only a little late to work. No harm done!

OK, I knew what this was but wanted to learn a little more about possible causes, and so of course I googled. Learn something everyday. Can't wait to find a way to work this phenomenon into a 'cap. Check out the "death erection" form of priapism. This just sounds so painful and I don't even have these parts....:)

PS. sorry schoolmarm if I'm skirtling the edge here.... :)

Oh my gosh...ok, I just started watching this and the disco scene. Now Barbi is wearing my clothes!!! I have that exact same jacket. What's funny is a few weeks ago when Luci on Guapos rejoined society after rehab, her debut outfit was with this exact same jacket. Hysterical. I wore mine for Easter.

Hey Chris, I've chuckled at your male pespective on things, for example I learned about the leaning forward boob pressing together gesture, used to get a man's attention!

Let's just say I've never really noticed that before! ;)

opps that was me Randy

This clothing thing is getting crazy Fuego. I remember Sara wearing several of your dresses too. Clearly you're shopping at some great stores, kiddo.

Thanks for the recap, Sylvia. I am getting worried about Ern's star falling and Alonslo's rising. I don't want Lorena back with Alonslo.....blghhhhh. I think Lorena was a little hard on Ernie...a bachelor suddenly having the responsibility of 3 kids, one of whom is a moody, defiant teen ...not easy. Ernie seemed to really be trying to care for those kids . There were 2 kids in my school who lost their parents in a car accident, and the boy was raised by one family of relatives and the girl by another. It always seemed sad to me that the brother and sister were separated, but I guess the family talked things through and came up with that solution.

Susanlynn, I'm sure you're not alone in wanting Lorena to remain with Chef Hawt. I think he's way more understanding than a lot of people would be. He's gone from a womanizing celebrity chef to a one-woman man, Mr. Mom kind of guy pretty quickly. I think he really does want what's best for the kids and he's doubting his ability to care for them based on his lack of experience. As you point out at least he's trying to keep them together. I'm afraid we're being set up for Lorena to go back to Alonso, gah!! He is such a gigantic DUD. Sometimes I wish these predictable shows would surprise us just a little. I have a giant crush on Chef Hawt, especially when he wears his spiffy chef jacket.

Thanks, Sylvia!!!! You’re amazing! You were ready to go all three nights out of four this week! Great recap, too! Kris, we hope you and your VCR come to an understanding. ;-) It’s always so disagreeable when the technology runs us instead of us running the technology!

Sorry to be so late in reading and posting, too, folks. Had a business trip this week.

“He ends up not going so maybe he suffers from a priapism (wheeee, I finally got to use this word that I learned 30 years ago in first-aid class). Later on he has a super-bad headache.” LOL! Great word! But the headache part wouldn’t be any fun. Poor Omar, thinking he had his problem solved, only to be totally foiled.

“They have a great time. Really. Barb honestly cuts loose and enjoys herself. Not surprisingly Chalo is a wonderfully sleazy dancer and Barb tells him to stop calling her Patrooona and please call her Baaaarbara.” ROTFLLLLL!!! It always sounds so spooky when Chalo says it. He might be the one person who actually likes her for herself.

“Jaqui is all "Hey I'm not the maid, you're the one who's rude, I don't like your tone and if you're mean to me I'll move out and take your son with me!" They have a smirk-off and Jaqui wins.” ROTFL! I loved seeing this old hag mean mother put down by Jacqui. And it was kind of nice to see Icky standing up to Mami for a change. Jacqui is a total brat and now Catalina understands what she had in lovely Val as a daughter-in-law.

“Crazy landlady Conchita tells Greta to make a move for Jaime. She actually says she wants one of her clients to strike a gold mine so they can help her out later if necessary.” What a wacko. She makes me nervous, but she’s probably harmless.

“He threw them out like unwanted cats and he's such a crank she doesn't know what she's doing there either. I think she tells him maybe they should break up and he is muy impactado” Yep, she sure did. He sure was.

It’s WONDERFUL to see Lore stand up to Sara. I think Sara actually gets upset by it.

Randy, welcome! For what it’s worth, Sara pushed Snortensia down the stairs, but the results are like a stroke victim might have.

Mike—re: Conchita—that would explain why the lips end long before the lipstick does, maybe.

“PS. sorry schoolmarm if I'm skirtling the edge here.... :)” LOL! Nah, Kris, you’re just quoting Wikipedia; heck, everyone does that. Plus, you didn’t go into detail. Thank goodness, because even without detail, it sounds like an awful way to go.

“What's funny is a few weeks ago when Luci on Guapos rejoined society after rehab, her debut outfit was with this exact same jacket.” I wondered where I had seen that jacket before!!!! Thanks for the info, Kris. Televisa’s answer to saving money on wardrobe. But you would think they could delay using it by a season or so, and it would be less obvious….

Jeanne
