Sortilegio #34, 11-23: Two French kissing episodes and a trick dog
I haven't watched this show for a week and a half so I'm not sure how much of what we saw was previouslies...
Chucho is in Saqui and reports back to Alex on how things are going. Alex is mortified that his father-in-law is shlepping suitcases for tips and decries MJ's stubbornness. She won't answer her cellphone. She and Paula wear awful pink faux-native garb and work in a tchotchke store.
Maura is having a big ol' Beautiful People Party. Everybody looks pretty except Alex who drags his butt in there with his shirt unbuttoned and a lot of bristle on his face. He is haggard but goes along with the french-kisses Maura lands on him. Bruno watches with glee.
Later Bruno tells Maura he knows all about the faux-Mario scheme she deployed with help from Useless and that gigolo husband with the stupid hair triangle on his chin I forget his name, and says she (Maura) better come see him (Bruno) tomorrow.
Filipa is whiling away the empty hours teaching her dog to beg while Vic complains how big and quiet the house is. Sadly, that quiet state is shattered by the shrewish entrance of Raquel who, mortified to hear she wasn't invited to the Beautiful People Party, takes it out on the dog, shrieking "It has to go outside." Vic says no it doesn't, Raq says don't I have any rights around here, Vic sez yes you do but not at the expense of mine.
So Raq gets into it about Vic's embarrassing behavior and says why shouldn't Bruno get the Presidency and then there wouldn't be scandal, this is all your fault, but Vic points out if Bruno weren't blackmailing her there also wouldn't be a problem, and goes through the reasons why Bruno shouldn't be prez, and Raq hits her with the cradle-robbing-romance thing, and Vic says I'm that close to running you - and your parasite of a husband - out of here, and stomps out, and Felipe points out to Raq that Vic is tired of Raq's ingratitude...
... and Vic drives the Rolls Royce over to Fer's, I guess they've been shunning each other's company since Raq caught them doing something? But they smooch finally in the car, he too has a very scratchy looking beard but Vic doesn't mind, then Vic sez no we can't do this. Eventually Fer says well at least we can meet as often as possible and we can always go up to the Native Persons Palace we are building and mess around there...
... and Raq calls Useless to complain about everything but he's too busy making time with some Beautiful Person and doesn't take the call so Raq throws around a lot of glassware....
... meanwhile at the Beautiful People Party Alex is ready to go home. Maura gets in one last kiss and tries to get him to invite her for dinner next day, he is evasive. He goes to get Katia (Fer's sister) but she doesn't wanna go home; Bruno sez he'll deliver her later.
Home, haggard Alex hears Vic is gone. All are in a tizzy. He goes and yells at Raq for fighting with Vic and calls her a bitter egotist. Snap!
So Fer drives Vic home and Vic enters to everybody going, where you been? as if she were a teenager. And she says, "everybody judges me and yells at me," just as a teenager would.
In Saqui, Paula and MJ whisper about Chucho being Alex's spy. "He doesn't trust me," seethes MJ. "Maybe he's just worried about you," counters Paula.
Chucho reports to Alex. Alex then frets to Fer about how stubborn his in-laws, and his wife, are. Fer points out it was Alex's fault for not trusting her. Now, he should either believe she was whoring around and forget her, or admit he made a mistake and ask her forgivenness. "Tell me about you and ma," counters Alex. "Best you ask her," counters Fer.
Blah blah blah the goatee-husband, Useless, and Maura are all a-flutter about Bruno knowing their little faux-Mario scheme. Roberto says he's having nothing to do with it.
Maura goes to Bruno's and he blackmails her, his favorite trick. He says: go along with all my plans to make Alex miserable or I'll tattle on you. She says go ahead.
MJ and Paula are in their little tchotchke store when menacing music strikes up. Some thugs come in and run out with the money from the cash registers - but not before stabbing MJ in the back and knocking Paula down! About a thousand people watch as the ambulance takes them to the hospital. Turns out Paula is just bruised up a bit but MJ has lost a lot of blood, is now anemic, and has broken ribs. She needs a transfusion - Paula offers willingly.
Their dad knows nothing about the robbery and stabbing - he is tippling with Chucho, who has heard that his cousin (the lying young man with scruples) will indeed walk again. Chucho asks how's the suitcase-shlepping biz, he's thinking of going into it himself. "What, you'd compete with me?" "No, let's be partners."
Fer and Vic are conFerring happily over the Native Persons Palace when Alex drags hisself in, he was too downhearted to work today. He droops on by the lovebirds.
Vic can't believe he would be so torn up about his two-timing low-status wife. Fer doesn't look very pleased with this take on things and pressures her to admit she knows inside that Bruno has been up to something very shady having to do with MJ. "But - my son is a monster?" she asks weakly.
Alex has called Erick into his study and is interrogating him fiercely. He, a chauffeur all these years, never heard of Mario Aguirre? Many questions, Erick's lying answers are unconvincing. "Who did Paula hit?" Erick can't remember.
Erick is ejected from Alex's study and calls Bruno, who is naked curled around Fer's naked young sister. Wonder what they've been up to?
All Bruno cares about though: "Did you compromise me?"
Tomorrow: Alex finds out his wife's been stabbed.

Thanks, Melinama, for the speedy recap. For someone who hasn't watched in over a week, you amazingly nailed it.
So Katia has made it all the way to full fledged MexiTrash skankdom; that girl moves fast. The scene with her and Bruno in their undies or less--couldn't tell--was just unattractive. Ick.
Good to see Vicky stand up to her other terrible twin, Raqui, who seemed to have a slightly fearful look cross her face at one point while being reamed out by Mom. However, she quickly recovered her hissy-fit self by smashing a few glasses in private.
Not sure about the Nando / Vicky romance quite yet, but it's good to see her happy and it does have possibilities. Also good Nando is making an about face over MJ and is trying to talk sense into Vicky and Alex.

Wow, I can't believe how quickly you got this up! Thanks. So I think Roberto (Bobo) reminding Alex about his love for MJ at the party stopped him from possibly committing another error with RaMaura at (or after) the party. His slimy presence and view of the kiss actually served a purpose. Alex definitely kissed back though! Not as enthusiastically as he kisses MJ, but he participated.

Alex is scary when he's mad and in your face, so I don't know how Erik managed to hold it together and not give too much incriminating info up.
Interesting that all her "friends" and even her lover are so tired of Raquel that they are ignoring her. She had to practically beg Useless at the end to meet up with her for a tryst. By the way, the girl Useless was cozying up to at the party was Maura's little sister, Lisette.

Thanks for the rapid recap, Melinama. My watching has been a little spotty last week (real life getting in the way), so I appreciate all the recappers.

Thanks for the recap Melinama. Som many comments, so little time. So where to begin? It looked like RaMoora had a whole barnyard of heifers last night. The fact that Raquel wasn't invited is just too funny. Everyone but you, sister! And just as we predicted Katia has graduated from Heifer in Training to a full-fledged Heifer. Actually she is in a whole separate category, more like a Heifer-Ho.

Forgive me for continuing a thread from last night but It was so interesting and I'm still mulling it over about MJ not supportive of Alec. MJ ALWAYS and never waivered from her desire to LEEave those Lombardos. Even when she knew she had fallen in love with Alec her every deception-caught-then cry and say thank you scene ended with I want to leave let me go. She has in my opinion used Alec albeit with perks, without committing to the relationship. Of course she's happy back in the old town, its where she always planned things to be.
BTW, I was afraid the knifing was going to be a kidnapping gone wrong by that street crime boss. So glad thats not it because there are so many enemies of peace and harmony in Alec's life.

My take on Alex seeming a bit thrown off by Nando and Vicky is that it's one thing to support your mom and your best friend pursuing their pure love for each other, in theory, but it's another to see your mom sneaking back into the house in the middle of the night after a possible tryst with said best friend, and then seeing them all lovey dovey. I think he's still supportive, but it would still be a bit weird.
I really like little scenes that show something about the characters or show tenderness, so the short scene of MJ scolding Paula about not loafing around at work and then admonishing Paula with "esos ojitos!" (don't give me that look missy!) when Paula gives her a look, made an impression on me again about the maternal relationship MJ has with Paula.

Karen, I'm weird like that. I always notice stuff that like that because I'm the one that usually has to clean it up! One time I was watching one of those cop reality shows and these cops broke into the wrong house. Totally shattered the door. Instead of drugs they found immigrant women and children. All I could think of was 1. Those poor women and children, and 2. I sure hope they were going to fix the door.

Alex angry IS scary and Levy is really impressing me as an actor, but I have to get back on my beat as fashion federale and say that no CEO of a huge construction conglomerate is going to wear a fitted striped hoodie to his HQ— even if he looks really hot in said outfit. Nope. Don't buy it.
Hubby was a lawyer at a huge, international engineering/construction for 32 years and I just don't see Alex wearing that outfit to the office, even if he is moping. Zeke should have stopped him on the way out the door and loaned him the Nehru jacket with the medal. LOL. Now that would be something!

Loved the recap Melinama. This eppy was a bit of a bore. So Fer and Vic finally kissed and petted. Hated seeing MJ get stabbed. LOL at a thousand people standing nearby when they were wheeled into the ambulance. So MJ needs a blood transfusion. Will Paula's blood match? My eyes at the last scene of Bruno and Katia in bed. That's a sight I don't want to see again.

In the previews, Alex looked as though he was stabbed when he found out the news. Did you see how fast he darted out of the house of locas? Everyone was staring at him as he sprinted to the helicopter. I'm anxious to see how this blood transfusion will play into if MJ and Paula are really blood sisters.

Even if Paula and MJ have different blood types, that wouldn't prove that they aren't whole siblings (or siblings at all). Siblings have different blood types all the time. They can either be the same as one parent, or a combination (and sometimes totally different). For example:
If your mom is A and your dad is B, you could be A, B or AB - and your siblings could be any one of the three as well. It get's even more complicated when you throw in O types (OO, BO, AO) and Rh factors (+, -). So I don't think them being different types will raise any red flags.

I just wish she'd get over caring what people think. She certainly gave it to Raquel last night. I don't agree that Raquel gets worse treatment than Bruno. The day of the lawyer meeting she slapped him when he said something inappropriate.
I also liked it that Maura didn't cave in to Bruno's threats. Hope she sticks to her guns. Bruno needs to lose a bit more often.
That attack in the crafts store was quite realistic. Those guys totally had me convinced they were bad thugs. I had expected it to be connected to Rufino. They may be involved with his gang after all, but I don't think the robbery had anything to do with the Pedro problem with Rufino's merchandise.

I don't have a problem with the Fernando/Victoria relationship (obviously). It's the other people that have a problem and it is just that--their problem. The young Latinas give me the stink-eye and the men/women closer to my age just stare with their mouths open. I have no problem with the age difference between Vicky and Fernono. And I have never been concerned about the friendship between Alec and Ferno because who in their right mind wants to even know if a parent is satisfied in bed - CLOSE THE DOOR! BUT my reservations are about the personalities of these two characters. Vicky, unwise at love - adultery, child neglect, selfishness - is not seeking a relationship for healthy reasons. She's lonely and hates to be by herself; she needs adoration and seeks a protector that hides the truth so she doesn't have to change. And maybe thats the bottom line for her. That she does not want to change...so get a child man and pretend even time has not passed. And whine so he feels your pain. He's not too young for her. She's just stuck in TEENage. An adult woman would have had her driver take the benz over to her lover's house. ...and bring him back 'alive', 'I'll be upstairs in my room period.
Many thanks for the great recap. I LOVEd the scene where Alex & Roberto are talking and the expression on Alex's face when Roberto asks if he's still thinking of MJ and Alex says "MJ es mi mujer". The quiet but unwavering love in his face ALMOST made up for his response (albeit passive) to Maura's french kiss!!!

Melinama I just want to say that your recaps are always so easy to read, you always capture prefectly what is going on the screen.
I just came to check how Sorti was doing, I think by now Zaratini has changed the story completely.
For the record: Both my mom and dad have O type blood, my brother and sister are O too but somehow I'm an A type. Funny.

I have changed sides I dont think vicky is that bad of a person anymore. Yes, she raised 2 crappy kids but the fact remains that she also raised Alex. I have to wonder if Bruno and Raquel had been raised by her on Alexs dad if they would have turned out differently instead for the first six years they were raised with her first husband who was a moody person. Dont get me wrong she has made some huge mistakes but shes only human and it takes two to tangle but as their dad is dead we are only blaming vicky.
I think Bruno only slept with Katie to get back at Fer and the looks he's been giving Vicky or I wonder if there was something going on b/t Bruno and Katia b/4 she went to the states.
I so hope Robert tells Alex about the whole mario setup. I think he will if theres a chance that it will come b/t him and his free ride.

Ebony don't stress over the age between MJ and Paula. We were trying to make heads or tails of it last week. Don't use logic.
Incog you nailed about Ferdumbo, i really don't feel the coupling between him and Vicki. It has nothing to do with age, it feels like a shock value coupling you know. Sort alike the Roberto and Useless couple, then Useless being also the lover for Raquel.
Since i think both of them are stupid and selfish, yes they deserve each other.
Bonny Churros ITA MJ has never fully commited herself in her relationship with Alex. That's why she seems so not torn up about the break up.

Ebony i think one of the reasons Samuel was frustrated and bitter. That's how Vicki once described him to Felipa.
His wife cheated on him with his good friend Antonio and then became pregnant on top of it all.
While Samuel kept his marriage to Vicki and was a father to her children.
Can you imagine what his thoughts were, most especially if he could ever trust this person again also.

I said that's what Ferdumbo deserves Cielo de Levy for sabotaging MJ and Alex's relationship. I also said Alex needed to get a new BFF because boy toy ain't cutting it.

Bruno can punch MJ in the face in front of Fernono and Vicki, get into daily fistfights with Alex tumbling down the stairs and talk nasty to the help. Vicki never says a word and begs Alex to keep Bruno in the house.
ONLY WHEN Bruno calls Vicki a ramera or says something bad about Antonio does she hem him up.
Raquel on the other hand, all she has to do is whine and Vicki is ready to pack her and Roberto's bags up and throw them out of the house.
And really Bruno shouldn't even be in the house because Antonio left him his own house.
Subconciously MJ didn't want to be in house or with Alex, so she did stupid stuff like lying about Mario Aguirre so the relationship would destruct and she and family could go back to their simple lives.
I don't think Katia slept with Bruno just to get back at Fernono; she did it to stay down with Team Mexitrash (Bruno on the other hand did sleep with her to get at Fernono). I see her moving in with Bruno or being set up in an apartment by Bruno real soon.
