Sortilegio December 3, 2009 Was it Murder or Was it Not?
Meche and Gabriel are talking. There is a loud knock on the door. Oh, no, it's Erik. Meche invites him in. (Like she had a choice.) He wants to know why she was at the Casa. She said she was looking for a job but decided not to take the job because she didn't want to work with EZ. Erik doesn't believe her. Gabriel finds his set and starts yelling at PDE. PDE pulls out a gun that is almost bigger than he is and says he's going to bust a cap in their a$$. They beg for him to put it down. He tells them they are coming with him.
Chucho and Pedro are telling Alex about what happened the night of the accident. Chucho says it wasn't Paula's fault. The guy got up and ran away on his own two legs. They explain about Meche and Gabriel. Alex asks Chucho if he is sure the money came from Bruno. Chucho says yes. He was behind everything and his dog too. Alex says ok, we need to have Meche identify Bruno. Pedro wants to know if Meche and Gabriel should tell the police. Pedro thanks God that Meche and Gabriel will be saved. Chucho and Pedro think Alex is “The Man.” Alex says let's go see Meche.
Raquel is sitting in her car frantically trying to call someone but keeps getting voice mail. Cut to an apartment with clothes strewn across the floor as if they were taken off in a hurry. Pan to the bed and we see Useless and Bobo basking in the afterglow. (Did I really type that?) Bobo checks the time and can't believe it is so late. (Did anyone else notice the thing next to the bed that looks like a cow? It distracted me so much I had to rewind.) Raquel who is now pacing outside Useless' apartment, gives up and knocks on the door. Uh oh! They are so busted. Raquel comes in demanding to know why he hasn't answered the phone. Useless said he was sleeping. She tries to get into the bathroom but the door is locked. She wants to know who is in there. He won't tell her. She says she loves him and wants to get a divorce. Bobo (in the bathroom) realizes it is Raquel and looks pissed. Useless tells Raquel he will talk to her tomorrow. She wants to know what time. She clings to him as he tries to get her to leave. Sheesh can you say “stalker?” He gets rid of her with a kiss. How pathetic is she? Bobo comes out of the bathroom and he doesn't look very happy. If it is because Useless said there was no one important in the bathroom or the fact that Raquel wants a divorce I''m not sure. Useless tries to talk to him but he brushes past him out the door. Useless says what bad luck.
Alex, Chucho and Pedro head out to Meche's house so Alex can get to the bottom of the whole situation. When they get there the lights are out and nobody is home. They all look worried. Ominous music plays. ( I swear those are the same curtains Margarita and Jacinto had in their living room.) They head over to Gregorio's house. Alex asks Julia if she knows where Meche and her brother are. She says she hasn't seen them. Gregorio comes out of the back room and drops his popcorn when he sees Alex. Alex asks him if he is the cousin of Erik who is the chauffeur or Bruno. He stammers and says yes. Alex leaves his card and says he needs Meche to call him right away to talk about the account at the hospital. The Three Musketeers leave and Julia wants to know who that guy was. Gregorio tells him that it was Alejandro Lombardo.
Meche and Gabriel are trussed up like Christmas geese in the backseat of PDE's car. They look worried but still alive for the moment. Gregorio calls PDE and says Alex was here. Meche pipes up from the back seat and loudly asks if that is Gregorio. Erik walks away from the car so Gregorio won't hear her. PDE wants to know what Alex wanted. Gregorio who should be the number one winner of the Darwin Award says Alex wanted to talk to them about the account at the hospital.
They all head back to Chucho's and Pedro's new crib. They try to figure out where Meche and her brother could have gone. Alex, clever lad that he is, noticed that they left without their clothes. Chucho said she didn't take a job at the house. Alex wonders if they know Bruno. Chucho says he's going to find out where they went.
Bruno shows up at Moora's for their meeting. Moora is bummed that MJ is pregnant.
Bruno cuts to the chase and asks what she wants. Moora wants to know what he is going to do about MJ. Bruno says nothing. Moora looks surprised and wants to know why not. He says that it would look bad for Alex to divorce MJ while she is pregnant so he will wait. Bruno wants to know if she knows anything about his mother seeing Ferdumbo. She says she has no idea and Bruno wants her to find out. She says why don't you find out from Katia. You are amigos. He says something and Moora says no way (ninguna manera). She tells him that if he helps her she will help him.
Bruno wants to know who thought up the idea of Mario Aguirre. Moora says it was Lissette. Bruno thinks that was a stupid idea. She says it worked for a little bit. They get in each other's face and Bruno says something and Moora says that if Ferdumbo finds out that he is congressing with his sister he will kill him. (Ah, we can only hope.) Bruno says then we are at war. I don't know about Viewerville but I think Bruno would probably win that one.
Felipa, EZ and Arturo are in the kitchen. Felipa is wondering why Arturo wasn't driving Raquel. He starts to say something and Ez makes the ahem, ahem, zip it noise. Paula walks in and sees Felipa feeding Cuko. Pau leans over and picks him up. For those of you who are wondering or keeping track, hers are real. OMG the dog is wearing a bib. The cook is going to make some yummy Mexican food for everyone. I wonder if they just call it “food” in Mexico because they are already in Mexico so there's no need to call it “Mexican” food. Hmmmm. Felipa wants Pau to sit down so she can pump her for info. They talk about what Pedro and Chucho are up to. The phone rings and Ez answers it. Ez hangs up and runs into Alex. Ez says Victoria wanted him to let her know when Alex arrived.
Bruno is driving and calls Pimp Daddy E (who is wearing another really bad shirt.). Bruno wants to know what happened. He says he did what he asked him to do. I killed them. Bruno thinks that is just peachy. PDE disgustedly throws his phone in the back seat and curses him.
Alex goes up to see Vicky who is sitting in a chair reading a book. Does she ever really do anything?
Alex tells her that he thinks that Bruno has been up to no good again. To her credit she actually wants to hear about it.
Bobo is in the hot tub. Paula walks up and says hi. He tries to get her to get into the tub. She says she doesn't have a swimming suit and he says she can wear one of Raquel's (Uh, no thanks. We don't know where that thing has been. Oh, wait, yes we do. Ewwww.) Shes worried about what Raquel will say. He says she's probably drunk and watching TV in bed. Paula asks if they sleep together and he says of course not. She looks surprised.
Back to Alex and Vicky. Alex is giving her the lowdown on the newest dirty deeds of Bruno. She says are you sure? Not totally but it is logical. Chucho saw the guy get up and walk away. He says Bruno's dog Erik is involved. Vicky wants to know if Meche actually saw Bruno. Alex says yes but he never told her his name. We went to their house to check it out but they have disappeared. Vicky is distraught. Alex says he knows this is hard for her and it hurts but she has to hear it all. We have to do something. She is crying and Alex tells her it isn't her fault. Yawn...FF>> She doesn't understand why Bruno is so hateful. She wants Alex's forgiveness. Ok everyone, say it with me, “He is a monster but he is my son.” Alex and Vicky hug.
Bobo finally convinced Pau to get in the hot tub. They are talking and drinking champagne. Bobo wants to know what happened with Erik. She's just about to spill her guts but who should walk up? Oh yeah, you know who I'm talking about. Somebody put a bell on that heifer. Of course she starts making a scene. She accuses him of messing with a sister-in-law. Bobo says she is drunk and stupid so shut up already. Bobo gets out of the tub and drags her back to the house. They argue and she smacks him. He asks her if she has a lover. She laughs. She throws a glass at him—again.
Alex is sneaking into the bedroom so he won't wake MJ. But wait—what's that? It's MJ looking all sexy (except for the sling maybe). He looks surprised and happy. Lots of hot kissing and slow dancing to no music. Happy couple talk. I'm not sure any conversation is necessary as he slow dances her toward the bed. FF>> . They end up on the bed and kiss some more. We don't get to see the good stuff unfortunately.
Bobo is apologizing for what happened. Paula's like, it's cool dude, don't sweat it. She tells him that his heifer hates her. Personally, I think she hates everyone including herself. Pau apologizes if she caused any trouble. He gives her a brotherly (or was it?) kiss on the cheek .
Alex and MJ are in bed. Not quite sure if this is before or after because he still has his pants on. He's touching her all over.
Vicky is filling Felipa in on the conversation with Alex. Felipa brings up the fact that MJ said that Bruno was the one that gave her the key to meet him at the hotel. And he was behind the Mario Aguirre deal. Vicky tells her that the women described the man who gave her the money and it was Bruno. Felipa is visibly shaken. Ez calls to tell Vicky that Bruno has arrived.
Vicky lights into him and says how could you blame Paula for the accident. Alex knows everything. You paid those poor people money to say it was Paula's fault. I want to know everything. Bruno plays dumb. Alex has convinced you that I've done something bad. He gives her the guilt trip about her infidelity and it's not his fault. Blah, blah, blah. Sorry everybody FF>> What an asshat.

Next day. Alex is getting dressed to go to work. He has to find Meche and her brother.
Chucho is also going out looking for Meche. The lawyer shows up with the paperwork for the DNA testing. Alex thinks that was fast and the attorney tells him that Bruno was in a hurry (tiene prisa).
Bruno and Erik are talking. Bruno doesn't understand why he is so sqeamish about this job. He points out that he did try to kill Alex. Bruno says but this was a woman and a kid. Bruno asks if he would rather spend his life in jail. He asks Erik what he did with the bodies. Erik says he buried them. Alex drives up and Bruno tells Erik to be quiet. Alex and Bruno have words and Bruno says that he gave blood so MJ would live and in return you will give me the presidency and a divorce. You are a man of your word aren't you. Alex says that MJ doesn't want a divorce. Bruno says perhaps (quisas). I don't know why Alex doesn't just tell him to kiss his a$$.
Felipa and Vicky in the bedroom talking. Cuco starts to whine. Hey, I'm right there with you buddy. I'd whine too if I had to listen to those two all day. Bruno comes in and wants to know what's up with Alex. He starts in with the whole guilt thing again and Vicky doesn't want to hear it. He accuses her of abandoning him. She tells him that he's made his own way. She tells him to get out. He wants to know if she's seeing Fernando. She tells him she's not seeing anyone. Like it is any of his business really. She says that if she had known he was going to be such a monster she would have had an abortion and something about going to hell. She storms out. He looks stunned for a minute then advances on Felipa. He tells her that when he is the owner of this place she is history. Cuco barks at him and he leaves. Good job Cuko. Felipa sighs and says he's a demon.
Raquel is at it again and Bobo tells her to shut up.
Chucho is still out looking for Meche. Alex has gone to the hospital to talk to the doctor.
Lissette and Moora talking about Bruno. Katia told Lissette that Bruno is great in bed.

Connie, many thanks for posting so quickly and for your pithy observations. Loved "hot kissing and slow dancing to no music"!!! I've got to say, I loved that scene more than any other MJ-Alex coupling scene so far!!!

When Alex came upon Bruno and Pimp Daddy E, he told them both he knew what they did to Paula. Alex told Bruno he is fed up with his plotting him.
He then told Pimp Daddy E he was fired and get off his property. Then he told Bruno to get the hell out of his house. Bruno response it's my mother's house.
Alex told him Vicki supports his decision. That's when Bruno brought up their agreement about the presidency and divorcing MJ.
Alex just looked at him with a smirk on his face that said fat chance i'm going to keep that promise buddy.
Bruno being the big baby he is ran to Vicki complaining that Alex is making up stories about him again. Vicki not willing to fall for Bruno's usual guilt trip, tells him he has to take responsibilty for his actions.
If Alex is telling to get out of the house then you gave to leave. Bruno shocked that manipulation of Vicki is not working this time ask if she would abandon her own child.
Vicki tells Bruno you're a monster, out nof left field Bruno asks if she is going to see Ferdumbo. Vicki tells him her business has nothing to do with him.
Vicki then went over to Raquel and Roberto's house to tell them that Bruno was being kicked out of the house.Raquel begin her usual annoying bitchy screechy self. She wonders why people ignore and avoid her.
The guy Bruno met at the end was the reporter he used for the Pedro and Chucho bar fight when they got arrested.
The previous episodes before last night Bruno told his lawyers to look into Alex's mother personal life implying that she Cheated on Antonio and Alex may not be Antonio's legitimate son.
He then told Pimp Daddy E he was fired and get off his property. Then he told Bruno to get the hell out of his house. Bruno response it's my mother's house.

I don't think Pimp Daddy E killed Meche and Gabriel because when Bruno was questioning him about where he buried the bodies. He gave the same evasive answer he was trying to give Alex. When Alex was asking Pimp Daddy E about his cousin and Paula's accident.

Chucho was reminding me of a Mexican version of Columbo.
I'm glad Roberto over heard the exchange between Useless and Raquel. Him hearing that she wants to divorce him for Useless should maybe end his association with him we hope.

Hi, all! Sorry about being MIA. When I got home Monday evening, my computer was deader than Pancho Villa. Wouldn't even boot. DEAD. My best friend's 18-year-old son (I have loved that kid since he was 4) came to my rescue, somehow extracted all of my data files (took 3 and a half hours), reformatted my dead harddrive and reinstalled an operating system (took another day), and had my computer purring like a kitten.
But then my monitor spazzed out when he delivered my resuscitated 'puter and died in front of us. Que the hell. So my mom decided to give me my Christmas present early--a new flatscreen. And now I'm back and cooking with gas. Good grief.
Thanks to you all for your recaps and comments from this whole week; I had a lot of fun getting caught up tonight/this morning! You too, Connie, for tackling this episode. You had me busting a gut with: (Uh, no thanks. We don't know where that thing [Raq's swimsuit] has been. Oh, wait, yes we do. Ewwww.) and your many other witty-isms. LMAO

With Useless and Bobo being men, I certainly expected them both to be lying there snoring up a storm instead of "basking" and chatting. (Not meant as an insult. Just sayin'. ??) I had to chuckle at that. And I positively rolled when Bitter Cow came marching in to dump on the useless one. What a look of utter (udder) disgust Bobo had in that bathroom. ROFL (actor Marcelo did look fine in that bed, I have to say)
My brother appreciated every inch of Paula's realness in that blue blouse she was wearing last night.

MJ's hair looked really GOOD this episode, did it not? As if it had a super conditioner and a blow-dry, or something. Really pretty. Gotta say, that whole Roberto/Uli/The Rack scene was hysterical.They way she kept coming back into the room and refusing to leave just made me giggle. A true Three Stooges moment. Useless may be wishing he never came back to town. And we'll have to see how Bobo uses this new info he has on the Rack with all the other puzzle pieces he's accumulating. He's not the most upfront guy, and though I think he's headed toward the light, he's got the anger issues that could make him a dangerous adversary, especially since noone takes him seriously.

Loved,loved, loved the love scene between Alex and MJ. From the start of it when she asks him to forget the argument they had, and he gives that hilarious face and says, "Uhh, what argument?" Lol! Sexy clothes, sexy hair, candle light, wine on the table (which they never got to). Woman, I am not thinking about that argument.
When they came back to them, they had not yet done the deed (just some serous making out). He's definitely up for it though, starts gently slipping off that neglige of hers over her injured shoulder, carressing her thigh in a way that would drive any woman wild, and then mentions that it's been a LONG time since they've made love (by the Stephe list, that's the underwater beach sex). He wants them to get back to business(obvio!), she says she wants to as well, but...(motions to her hurt shoulder). He cuts her off and says, "Well then, let's indulge ourselves..." Lol! No further convicning needed! :)

Yikes....I was not expecting to actually witness Rob and Useless in bed. That imagine has been burned into my brain , and it is bond to interfere with any future fantasies I have of Marcelo and me. Thanks for filling that in Vivi. I knew he said something important but just couldn't figure it out. It sounded (to me anyway) like one of those phrases that you can't really translate. That was a great scene though.
Connie- He uses the word consentir reflexively- consentirnos. Consentir means: to allow, to spoil, to indulge. I had to look the word up after watching the scene and thought it is a great word. I'm going to have to throw it into my Spanish vocabulary.

I still have fantasy about him, sometimes he looks so hot! i like MJ hair also it looked really good last night and her makeup looked good as well! Alex is hot everyday of his life. I felt sorry for Gabriel, after having the head of his femur replaced just a week ago, being tied up in the back of PDE's car! That must have been painful.
By Alex talking to Gabriel doctor he now has concrete evidence that Paula did not hit Gabriel. The doctor told Alex when Gabriel came to see him when he got run over by the truck.
Maura does not stand a chance against Bruno. The most she and Team Mexitrash came up with was a fake Mario Aguirre. Now Bruno has taken over that scheme.

Wow, it's a toss up on that one. I think I'd have to agree it is Alex's family that is the worst. Although, since we haven't had much info on the sister and the mom it could swing the other way.
Vivi, I'd say Alex's family is worse too, though I'd rather watch scenes of Bruno scheming or Raquel whining than have to watch Pedro playing victim. Still, Alex's family (minus Victoria) is definetely worse in regards to villainous intentions.

The recap was great--even through the FF>> Usually I have to watch the episode twice to figure out everything they say. This makes it easier, though I don't mind watching them twice (or three times).
On Roberto - He's probably the angriest at Ule because Ule swore he wasn't messing with his wife.
Did anyone catch where Roberto tells Raquel back at their house that she'd better wear a condom with Ulises?
Roberto would like to see how far he can go with Paula, for his own benefit. So far she's been smart enough to not let it go very far, although some of her actions have been suspect to anyone seeing them together (a la MJ in the restaurant and Chucho on the patio)
On Erik - He's clearly going to be Bruno's Achilles' heel. I'm afraid for him because Bruno would easily dispatch him if he believed he might reveal all the twisted plotting. I don't think he killed them AND buried them. I had to dig a relatively hole for a new plant in dry, sunny dirt once and it wasn't easy.
Alex should have taken Fernando's advice to keep his enemies near. Erik's movements will be easier to follow if he's still living at Casa Lomba.
The love scenes are really well choreographed, better than American TV soaps, where everyone ends up still clad in undergarments or hiding behind a sheet pulled up to the chest.
On Fernando - After the drubbing I got from commentators earlier for liking him, I see there are others who feel that Fernando can be an ok guy and confidant of Alec's. What I was trying to say earlier is that Paula acts as MJ's sounding-board (so she doesn't have to talk to herself) and Fernando performs the same service for Ale.
It may take time, but in the end I think Vic will choose Fer--he gives her a thrill and makes her happy, while Hernan is predictable and boring (her words). He is a good soul, though and will continue to help her and the family.

Newbie, Roberto said that to Raquel?! Darn, I probably FFW that part. So Raquel knows that Roberto kbows about her and Useless?
I was surprised that Bobo didn't have more of a reaction to Useless and Raq, it being the first time he found out. He seemed betrayed but not like he was ending his friendship with Useless. When Use said "bad luck," I had to say, you caused it, Dude, not luck.

Ivy, youtube does have most of the episodes, though sometimes, I think it misses scenes. Tonight's episode is 47 if you wanted to watch online. Sortilegio 47 should give you the episode in 4-5 parts.

I think Roberto is in love with Ulysses (Oh, No?) and this is why he has not yet outed Team Mexitrash to Alex. If, however, he feels his income is threatened, I think Survivor Bobo will do what he needs to do to protect his lifestyle and betray Useless in a flash.

Hombre- You're right. The fact that the stab wound will leave a scar has been mentioned twice now, means they are setting it up as a way to tell the twins apart eventually. Good thinking! They could also use that beauty mark that JB has on one of her breasts too (it was the way Dr. Plastico recognized her as the crazy bride who stripped down to her undies years before in Tontas). But given that it's real to the actress, both twins would have it. ;)

Just back to read the comments. Stephe~ Hub just bought something called Clickfree. You plug it into the computer , and it downloads all your stuff . In the event of a computer crash or the purchase of a new computer, you plug it in and your files are transferred. [He hasn't used it yet, but he thought it was a good idea.] I'm glad MJ spent some of her recuperation time experimenting with the comb. Her hair looked good last night. I, too, appreciated the slowdancing to no music. mmmmmm ...nice touch. Monica Miquel always seems to know what women like to see in love scenes...They like to see some.........L O V E. As for Rob's meltdown as he was eavesdropping from the bathroom, I think it was mostly about losing his cash cow [Raq] and not about his crush on Useless even though he had been useful very recently. I think that he actually is developing a soft spot for Paula...a shreiky ,spoiled poor girl might be a nice change of pace for him after living with the shreiky, spoiled rich girl from hades. I,too, think that we will see the May/December romance between Vacky and Fer [who seems to have added at least 2 more expressions to his repetoire] blossom. I don't expect Vacky to have any hot dreams about good old, steadfast Hernan , and it would be cruel to just taunt us with those ruffling Ikea bed linens and...beyond. In novelas, don't those dreams usually come true?

I think Alex has the worst family, because whereas they both have issue-ridden relatives, at least MJ's family has true love for each other and compassion for other people. The Lombardo/Albeniz jerks would sell each other and any stranger off the street on the black market in a heartbeat. Wretches.

On the worst family, for sure, the Lombardos are the winners. Someone posted earlier that the writers, in trying to appeal to a hard working, hard scrabble Mexican audience, like to make the "wealthy" look bad. I agree, but I must say that the writers are being fair in the sense that they have spread the lying, poor decision making and general ineptitude around... there seems to be plenty of wacky decision making and general "denseness" present in all classes in the Mexican Yucatan these days, if Sortilegio is representative of the region. Of course, we here at Caray Caray know differently!!!

So, there I am, opening night and on my off scenes during Act I, I decide, I'm not waiting to watch the episode, I'll go online via my trusty Blackberry and read the recap. Not only was it a hilariously written recap--OMG, post-coital Bobo and Useless getting interrupted by Raquel!--but I also saw all the well-wishes in the comments. Thank you, thank you, thank you all. It was a very successful opening night, the audience laughed, they cried, they gasped in fear when pieces of the set accidentally collided! Well, the last bit was nerve-wracking, but it's safe to say a fun time was had by all :) And now that the show has started, I get my Tuesday nights back. yay!
Kat, I logged on just now to see if you were on a high from your opening and might let us know how it went. I'm so glad you had a great opening night -- even with colliding set pieces!! Hope the rest of your run is a triumph and look forward to your recap next week!!

While waiting for last night's recap here are two minor things from Thus that won't add anything to solving the mystery of Meche & Gabe's disappearance:
Gabriel's doctor only tells Alex that Gabe comes for therapy twice a week, Mon & Thus and always at 10am. I don't think he said anything about how long he'd been coming or that it was an accident with a camion. Alex would love to have known, but I think he was just trying to date the time of Gabe's disappearance
