Dinero #5, 1/22/10, Now Hiring: No experience necessary if applying in short skirt and spike heels.
We begin with a rehash of Leonor offering her house to Alejandra and Marco for one million pesos; she promises that Rafael will work off the rest of his debt little by little. They thaw to the idea.
Rafa and Jaime meet with Marco. Jaime says the demand has now gone up to 5 million pesos. The plan is for Marco to take out a loan that Rafa can pay back in monthly payments for a year. Rafa agrees but wants to know why he has to pay so much money.
More bickering over details about why Rafa has to pay so much to Marco and Ale, most reasons having to do with wedding costs: the ridiculously expensive menu, the flower arrangements, the honeymoon in Hawaii, etc. Rafa’s head is spinning with the outrageous price tag on this now-defunct wedding.

Loved the "black ace bandage of a skirt". Amen.
Terrific debut. Not feelin' the love yet for these characters but who knows? DO enjoy the recaps immensely.
I like this show. On Paulas' cheat sheet of characters she has Ramiro listed as the worst salesman. I sure understand that now.
thanks again!

I have read all the recaps this week and have enjoyed them very much. It was fun to "meet" some new recappers! Thank you all for shedding light on the parts I missed or didn't totally get.
I am temporarily not able to watch my favorite telenovela, Gancho, so thought I'd give this one a try. I need my one hour of Spanish practice everyday!
However, this telenovela has been so hard to watch, not entertaining at all. The financial worries of all involved are really getting to me. The loss of Rafael's merchandise when the other man in Cuernavaca took it to sell and didn't pay him,the way that man who gave Rafael the loan came in and took his mother's things when the loan was not repaid on time, the loss of Alejandra's down payment, etc. etc. It's all hard to watch. I guess I'm taking it too personally because I can relate on a small scale. I remember after my husband had his stroke 18 months ago, we were in some uncomfortable financial positions for a while and felt totally taken advantage of. This show brings up unpleasant memories!
ITA with Judy, I'm just not getting into these characters. Marco: well he is just a conniving dirtbag and we could all figure that out from day 2 of this telenovela.
Alejandra! What kind of a main character is she? I just about had to turn off the tv when she was screaming and acting like a little brat on Thursday. Does she not remember that SHE was fiddling on the floor board of her car for her ringing cell phone and not paying attention to the road? Of course not! All her problems, including her debt, are someone else's fault.
And taking her father's deed and pawning the house, then acting like she was so concerned about the house when he said he would sell it? Deceitful, immoral, unscrupulous!
The greed of Alejandra and Marco as they shake down Rafael for all he is worth and then some: ugly, ugly, ugly!
While watching this week, I was getting a little lost with all the numbers flying around the last 2 days as Alejandra and Marco added up all their losses. I knew it was alot and thought I heard 4.5 million pesos. So I went to an online calculator to figure out how much that would be in U.S. dollars (almost $347,000...ouch!)I still struggle with translating numbers in my head as they're said and then lose the rest of the sentence or sentences that follow! Thanks for specifying just how much was lost for each item and total loss.
"Black ace bandage of a skirt"--that was pretty funny as well as accurate. When that scene was playing my husband excused himself from the room! He doesn't speak Spanish, but got THAT message loud and clear!

I tried to stay awake during this episode and barely did. (do ya think they need to move it to the afternoon so this AARP member can watch?) I'm not sure this 'novela is worth the struggle of staying awake, but we'll see.
I agree with everyone in how frustrating it's been so far, but Monday's previews indicate a bit of relief, with Rafa and buddies getting to party down with the left overs from Ale's boda. It's just that our main characters can't function well locked up. Rafa's getting out of jail, and can begin to use his amazing energy.
And when Alejandra gets back on her feet, she should be much less irritating. I'm not really sure about this part, except that you can see she hates being stuck in that hospital bed more than anything! I also want to see her in more outfits than the broken leg exposed look.
