Sortilegio-February 4, 2010--The Devil Walks Among us and His Name is Bruno
Yesterday:
The boys argue over MJ. Alex wins and Bruno leaves. Instead of having a family dinner Alex decides to take MJ out to dinner and enjoy the rest of their evening. Bruno heads back to his Chalet and rants and raves and has a tantrum. Eric shows up and wants to know how things are going. Bad idea. Bruno bites his head off and says that if he can’t have her then neither can Alex.
Tonight.
Alex and MJ arrive at the restaurant where their table is waiting.
Dr. and Mrs. E-vil are discussing Sandra. Dr. E wants to know the scoop with MJ and Alex. Elena explains they are divorced but they live together. Dr. E doesn’t look pleased. There is a knock on the door and who should appear but Useless. Even though he is out of his coma he is still—well, useless. He tells Dr. E that he’s heading for Merida. Dr. E doesn’t think that his body is ready. Useless doesn’t care. He wants to go to Merida and bring Sandra back. But first he’s going to pay a visit to Bruno. Uh oh! He says he’s going to need some money. Of course says Dr. E. The phone rings and it is someone from Porfirio’s house saying that Porfirio’s condition has worsened. Dr. E is on his way because he doesn’t want the old guy to kick the bucket before he signs his will.
Back to the land of sunshine and roses MJ and Alex are having dinner. She wants to know about Useless and why Damian brought up his name. Ok, let’s get this straight. His name is Bruno not Damian—Damian is his second name. Useless is friends with the Mexitrash crowd. In fact, he’s the founding member. He explains that Useless is the father of Raquel’s baby. MJ wants to know if Robertoo knows about the baby and he says yes. When Raquel was pregnant Useless disappeared and no one knew where he went. Alex tells her about being kidnapped. She wants to remember. We were happy. He asks her to dance. He sings to her as they dance. She likes it. Lots of smiling and almost kissing. At least we didn’t have to hear the theme song again. Finally they kiss.
Back at the Casa they head upstairs. He thanks her for going with him. Then there’s the awkward, “Do I kiss her or do I not?” scenario at the bedroom door. He wants to come in for just a little bit so they can talk about some other things. R i g h t He wants to know when she wants to go to the hospital to have the tests done. She says whenever you want. Alex thinks they have to talk to Porfirio and tell him the truth. She agrees. Reluctantly he leaves. There’s a split screen of them thinking about each other. Sigh…
Bruno is in bed when the phone rings. It’s Dr. E informing him that Useless is heading for Merida tomorrow. Don’t you fail me. Bruno assures him everything will be fine.
Fer and Vicky are drinking coffee. She is telling him about the dinner and that Bruno came and everything went to Hell in a handbasket. Stamp me stupid for thinking it would go smoothly. He’s glad because he got to have coffee with her. Seriously dude, you are such a wuss. He wants to talk to her about Katia. It seems Bruno terminated their relationship and she is devastated. He doesn’t care why it ended but he’s glad that it did. They switch to the topic of Maura being involved in the kidnapping. Fer thinks she's involved because she is so obsessed with Alex. She wants to help him with Katia. Vicky loves Fer and he loves her and he doesn’t want her to think about an end to their relationship. There is no end. Snore—FF>>
Paula, Felipa, and EZ are sitting around shooting the breeze. It is unanimous that they are glad that MJ and Alex are together again. They are so in l-u-u-v. Felipa wants to know if Paula has a hunk-a, hunk-a, of burnin’ love to call her own. Well, sort of—but he’s married so maybe not. But then again, there is this one guy---(and we all know who that is –blech).
Dr E gets back from Porfirio’s. Elena wants to know what happened. Did he die? Like she really cares. No, but he doesn’t have much time. He wants to see Sandra. That can’t happen. No, duh, you stupid heifer! We can’t lose the money. We need it. Elena wants to know what they are gong to do. Dr. E tells her to stop bothering him with all these questions. He thinks they need to get Useless to take the fall for the kidnapping of MJ. Everything depends on it.
Next day. MJ is in Tony’s room and Alex comes in on his way to work. They talk about the babies. She thanks him for everything last night. He was glad that she went with him. Vicky wants to get some things for the babies. She says she doesn’t have any money. He tells her not to worry about it. She wants to know if her mom went back to Toluca. Praise the Lord, she did. He leaves for work and gives her a kiss. Paula is downstairs playing the piano. She wants to know how everything is going with MJ. He says not too bad. She says she’s bored and wants to know if he has a job for someone with her fabulous computer skills. He says he’ll see what he can do. On his way out he asks EZ to fix the phone in his bedroom. Paula is excited about having a new job that she doesn’t even have yet. Alex shows up at Bruno’s chalet. Bruno wants to know what he wants. Alex says it’s MJ and not Sandra. Bruno is like, so? It doesn’t matter, she’s not your woman right now. Alex says that will be rectified shortly. Bruno makes that awful clicking thing he does and says don’t be too sure. They have a stare down and I couldn’t hear what they said.
Paula is excited about having a job. MJ is concerned about calling her mom to let her know she is ok. Paula doesn’t want her to talk to Elena because she doesn’t deserve to know anything about their lives. MJ wins and calls Elena. She tells her that she is still confused. He keeps wanting me to remember that I am MJ. Paula chimes in and says that she is not Sandra. Elena explains that Useless found her and brought her home. MJ says they are telling her the medicine that Jorge gave her has messed with her memory. Elena tells her not to take any medicine they give her. You need to come home. Porfirio is very bad. He doesn’t have much time. He needs to see you. I don’t want him to die. You have to come.
Tio is talking to Porfirio—he wants to see his granddaughter. He suspects something is wrong. He wants to know what is going on. Porfirio makes Tio promise to tell him what is going on. There’s a knock on the door. It is the doctor. He orders him out. The doc says he needs the oxygen. They just want me to sign my will. Tio tries to convince him that he needs the oxygen.
MJ gives her mom a phone kiss. Paula looks like she wants to hurl. Bruno enters and rushes to MJ and tries to give her a kiss. Paula gets in between them. She pushes him away. Victoria comes down the stairs and Bruno rushes to her and greets her with a kiss. Vicky and MJ are going shopping for the babies. He stands behind then on the stairs of death waiting and watching. When they leave he comes down the stairs but Paula stops him and tells him what a scumbag he is. If they only knew just how bad you really are. He tells her to shut up. She doesn’t know anything. He either tries to head-butt her or kiss her, I’m not sure which and she tells him to get away from her. Felipa seconds that and he walks out with a snort.
Alex and Fer are at the office discussing how things are going. Alex says not too bad. He held her in his arms and kissed her and thought she would remember. But she is still confused. Fer tells him he has to have patience. Alex is worried that she might feel something for Bruno.
Letty comes to visit Lissette. She says she doesn’t have money for something. They talk and Letty leaves. Hernan comes in and Lissette asks him for a favor. Sorry FF>>
Useless enters his apartment. Bruno is there waiting for him. (This doesn’t look good. Dun, dun, dun). Useless looks surprised (but what else is new) and wants to know what he is doing there and how did he get in. He made a copy of the key. Useless wants to know who told him he would be here. Ah, the good Dr. Kruger. Useless still doesn’t get what is going on. He says something and I don’t know if it is because he is still under the influence of his drug induced coma or what, but I can’t understand him. Bruno laughs and says isn’t it obvious? They lied to you except for one thing. You are taking the fall for the kidnapping of MJ. He says it was Sandra he brought to Toluca not MJ. He grabs Bruno by the throat and bends him over the bar. Muscles bulge. Bruno’s face gets red. Just when it looks like all is lost for Bruno he kicks Useless and he falls to the floor. That gives Bruno the chance he was waiting for. He whips out a pistol with a silencer and POP. Oh snap! <
Vicky and MJ get home from shopping. Victoria and Felipa talk about MJ and how sad it is that she can’t remember. They can’t understand how her own mother could treat her like that. FF>>
Bruno is on the phone with Dr. E-vil. It’s done. I killed him. It was very quick. He had no idea it was coming. I left him in the apartment. Dr. E says not to tell anyone. Then he says something I don’t understand. Bruno says I don’t understand. Dr. E tells him to just do what I say.
Back at the hospital—Alex reassures her everything will be ok. He promises her that if they determine she is Sandra he will let her go home to her mother. What if they find something. Still insecure, he wants to know what she feels for Bruno. She says nothing. Nothing happened. Hernan says they are ready. Hernan says they are ready. She looks nervous.
Dr. and Mrs. E-vil are discussing Bruno’s latest accomplishment. What happened to the body? They will think he died because he was guilty of the kidnapping. We will wait and see.
Paula is telling the gang about her new job. She wants to know where Gabe is. Oh, he’s at home working on some art. Pedro wants to know how MJ is. Paula tells him about her going to the hospital for some tests.
MJ is gong into the MRI. Hernan comes out and says everything is fine.
Gabe is back at the house working on a statue. Paula shows up. I guess you are too busy. He says he’ll fix her something to drink. She touches his hand as he gives her her drink. She smiles coquettishly at him. He asks her to go with him tomorrow. She says it’s a date and kisses him on the cheek. He is in heaven. Like we didn’t see that one coming.
At the hospital everything is fine. You aren’t Sandra you are MJ. She is overcome with emotion. You will begin to remember little by little. Everyone is happy for her.

thanks for the quikky recap. In the hospital Letty tells Lisette how lucky she was to have had the transplant. Lisette suggests she have one too. Letty says she would like to but has no $$$ for that kind of operation
After Letty leaves, Dr. Hernan comes in. Lisette tells him she wants to pay for a donor transplant for Letty. The good Doc says she is doing a noble and good thing.
too bad ulysses lived for such a short time. And died so horribly. Other than living off other people's money, he did no real harm to anyone

Was it me or was Bruno scared there for a minute, it looked like Useless was getting the best of him in that fight until dirty low down Bruno knee him down south.
So the three stooges set up Useless to be killed by Bruno.
Anon 2:42 Bruno hid the silencer part in his own chalet. Another mistake by the our master idiot he wiped the gun cleaned of his fingerprints.
But according to all the CSI shows if you shoot a gun it leaves traces on the shooters hands, so he's making it look like Useless committed suicide but hopefully the police won't fall for it.

Glad Ferdumbo is recognizing how obsessed Maura is towards Alex so obsessed she would take part in MJ's kidnapping.Vicki still can't believe she would do something like that.
Maybe Vicki's wig is too tight and it's cutting off the circulation in her head that's why she's still stupid about the obvious plots that's going on around her.
Loved Paula telling MJ not to call the barracuda who is their mother.
Poor Porfirio i wish he didn't have to die, glad Alex offered to take MJ to go see him.

If she was really Sandra i would have stayed with him anyway after a offer like that. By now she sees the difference between his household and Elena's and Dr.Demented's.
I can't believe i'm saying that Casa Lombardo's is wholesome compared to house of horrors that Elena lives at with Dr. Demented.

Thanks for the fill-in on Lissette. For some reason I just couldn't follow that conversation. And I think Dr. E-vil is hard to understand too. It's like he has mush in his mouth or something. Useless looked stronger than I thought he was. Bruno did seem worried for a minute there. Not sure about the Gab/Paula hookup. He's just so not cool.

Bruno did indeed plant the silencer in Raq's chalet, in case the cops don't believe Useless killed himself, because of his guilt/fear of being discovered in the kidnapping, then accusing Raq of murdering her estranged lover is the back-up. What a great brother Bruno is! Dr. Demented thougth that this was a stupid idea and just complicates things. He is also determined that Useless's body not be discovered for at least 72 hours. After that point, the decompsotion will be so much that no one will be able to see the tell-tale signs of what Dr. Demented did to him medically. There will be no link between Useless and his clinic.

I've been thinking this for some time, but the Paula/Gabe match-up seems to be what the Elena/Pedro match-up must have been like. Both Elena and Pedro were from humble origins, she was beautiful and ambitious, he was a simple guy on an upward tragectory when they met as young people. It's good to know it's not just me CubsFan. He always seems to be talking into something. I know he said something important to Bruno but I listened to it 4 times and still didn't catch it. Some nights are just like that I guess.

I wonder if anyone else saw last night episode of Mujeres Asesinas boy the one part where all the girls are gathered and hear Cindy screaming for her life and help and the looks on all of their faces that they too at one time experienced for themselves what she was going thru was bone chilling.

He is the only one who seems to have a business head and is certainly the most motivated of the entire bunch, ie., Meche gabbing, Cucho strumming the guitar. I can see the logic in your comment. One issue I have with Gabe is the unusual expression he always has on his face...he needs to join Gabriel Soto in some advanced acting classes. Sandy- Maybe this is a chance to start their romance off on the right foot. At the beginning Alex was a wolf. Very flirty, using his charms to get MJ into bed. And he just happened to fall in love with her along the way. This time round he is being a true gentleman. No game playing, not pressuring her to hop in the sack. Perhaps that is supposed to be the differnce this time. But I do hope they pump up the romantic stuff, and pronto. The kiss during dancing was nice. More of that please.

On the aftermath of the Useless murder--
Bruno wanted to call the police so they would find the body. Elena says what about gun powder residue. Dr. E says no let the body putrify because in several days they wouldn't be able to test for it and the staged suicide would be more believable.
Also, when Useless walked in his apartment and asked Bruno how he got in, Bruno said they were Raquel's copies of the keys and it wasn't hard to get them from her chalet. They were the keys that Bruno was returning to her chalet (the famous watermelon sofas belong to her chalet).

The two guys standing around surely noticed the hot car, no? And the guy who brushed past them?
Hopefully this mistake will come back to bit him in his tightly toned little butt.

Oh, my, Ulysses died. That was such a nasty, brutal scene, courtesy of Dr and Sra Eeevil and Bruno-the-tight-trousered.
The scene of Useless with the hole in his head bleeding on the floor left me queasy.
I think Vicky is completely lost to reason where Bruno is concerned. I have no hope for her. Their relationship is more than a little Oedipal and is not going to get fixed in this TN. Vicky is stupid but more able to see Raquel's flaws. Their relationship is a mess but not near as twisted as Vic's is with Bruno.

I think Bruno's leaving the silencer at Raquel's chalet was a mistake. Yes, Raquel had a motive against Ulises, but Bruno may have been seen, Raquel may have an alibi, etc. It would have been better for the bad guys just to leave Ulises there. No one except Jorge, Elena and Bruno even knew he returned to Merida, so no one would be looking in his apartment, and the body could go undiscovered for a long time.
On the other hand, how can they blame Ulises for anything if his body isn't found? I'm confused. Fortunately, with only two weeks left, the writers will explain all. I hope.

Loved the recap Connie. Uli came to a bad end. Bruno has now dirtied his hands by committing murder and then tried to make it look like a suicide. Somehow, I don't see this plan working like all the others. I'm glad MJ now knows she is MJ and will begin to recover her memory. We all knew pretty much that Paula would end up with Gab since Roberto let her down easy. Too bad.

I was very touched when Lisette wanted to pay for Lety's bone marrow transplant. Her illness has definitely changed her from the shallow young girl she seemed to be before.
MJ told Alex that she needed to keep taking the medicine Dr. E-vil prescribed because her mother told her she'd relapse into drug addiction without it. Elena needs a 1,000 pound anvil to fall right on her head.

Yes, the choking scene was very satisfying. Since we are into science fiction in this novela, (mind erasing drugs) why couldn't the bullet have entered and left one of them, ricocheted off the frame of one the gastly pictures in the condo, come back and killed the other one...simply said, two pajaros with one shot! Saves on blanks and leaves only 6 or so tough villians to worry with.

Why doesn't MariJose or anybody else ever force Elena to acknowledge her daughter Paula? Paula doesn't want a relationship with 'mom' but. Does anybody notice Elena never refers to her other daughter?
And on another note, I propose a twins baby switch was pulled on Victoria. Elena got the good twins and ruined one of those but Victoria got the bad twins that Elena would have been quite happy with.

Thanks Connie for a great read of a great episode. I don't think I could have sat through another episode of MJ's hysterics. Some of the comments are also great fillers for parts that were unclear. I know so little about guns that the idea of a silencer had never entered my mind.
Cubs fan, according to novela rules, the heros and heroines are never murderers no matter how much suffering they have endured under the hands of the bad guys. For that reason, Bruno if he is to die will either be sentenced by a court of law or by an enemy. But never by Alex, MJ or Vicki.
A hypothetical question was presented asking which one of Viki's twins she would prefer to have the death penalty served on. and concluded that Viki would prefer to get the death penalty. The writer concluded that Viki would prefer to have Raquel put to death. Since Raquel hasn't done anything that would warrent the death penalty such as premeditated murder, I think the hypothetical question not in keeping with the level of denial that Viki is exercising. I thought that at the very end of this novela ,Useless might be the anvil that hits Bruno, but because we still have a couple weeks until the end, I did not expect Useless to choke Bruno to death last night. However, I was not expecting Bruno to shot Useless. Who knew that Mr. Tightpants [ha,,thanks for that one , Vivi] was packing? [It brings to mind that old joke : ''Are you carrying a gun, or are you jusr glad to see me ?''] Also, I expected Useless to be a lot angrier at Dr. Dismal. I at least expected him to have some questions for the good doctor, such as : 1] Why did you stab me in the shoulder with that needle and put me into a coma? 2] How did I get so muscular while I was in the coma? 3] Who cut my hair?...I'm just saying.

The hypothetical question i asked at 10:43 was if a death penalty was served which twin would she save. Not herself was in anyway part of the questioned i asked nor the actions of Raqhell who tried attempted murder.

Now that we are down to the nitty gritty, what are everyone’s thoughts on Maura? We don’t seem to be asking if she is a sociopath or psychopath, so she must be neither. For me, Maura has been one of the most interesting characters in this novela. Alex would never have married her, but she can’t process that. She made the mistake that a lot of women make, she assumed that social position means something to men. I also think that she took his interest in sex as love, sadly, that happens too. She misread Alex, gave too much, lost him and then instead of backing off, she took one baby step at a time into true criminal behavior. Also, truthfully, she was encouraged by mixed signals from Alex. Lisette could read the handwriting on the wall, but Maura wouldn’t listen to her sister. The thing that is interesting to me is that from time to time, as she went from bad to worse, I think I could see hesitation, perhaps a chance for a reversal in her eyes, like when she met Dr. and Mrs. Mengale.....she hesitated for a moment, teared up... and then kept walking in her 5 inch stilettos toward the dark side. Her social pride, coupled with a huge inability to let go, and yes, an inherent selfishness, have brought Maura to where she is today...facing a big, black, heavy, steel anvil..... Kudos to Ana Brenda for walking a fine acting line with her portrayal of Maura!

Someone commented the other day about William wearing his scruffy beard, i'm not saying this is true but maybe he had a option to wear that or a mustache. In the original Andres garcia had a full black not too thick mustache. So maybe Carla gave William a choice.

Love your analysis of Maura, Sandy. I agree that her inherent selfishness was the driving force that led her to "the dark side". Perhaps in a less noticeable way, she is much like Bruno with the belief that what she wants is so much more important than anyone else, that if she can't have it, or them, no one can. So she'll go along with any scheme eventually to prove that point. So sad her own sister began unimportant in that ultimate goal when she needed her most. She gets Bruno better than anyone, sort of his psychological twin.

Yikes, the chick in that film was worse than our Mauron. In fiction and in real life, I am always amazed to see people who have so much lose everything because of the bad choices they make. Maura probably could have had a host of hombres. She's beautiful , young, and rich. Instead, she became so obsessed with one dude that she threw her good judgement out the window. It happens in real life. What do they say...the difference between fiction and reality is that fiction has to make sense. [I will add to that...unless we're talking about the telenovelas..like reality, they often don't make sense !] I guess Maura no puede ser that Al could possibly love anyone but her , especially someone as lowclass and poor as MJ. Que lastima for you Maura. Your stubborn obsession ruined your life and hurt other people. Shame on you. I would love to use that scene where Useless is choking Bruno and then Bruno shoots Useless for a criminal law class. It is a great hypothetical. How many criminal charges can be brought against Bruno: Murder while lying in wait, premeditated murder, murder in the heat of passion, voluntary man slaughter, etc. and what are his defenses? Let's see: I didn't do it, it was someone else! It was self defense! I didn't know the gun was loaded! etc. Prosecutor would have fun with the fact that Bruno had feloniously (stolen key) gained access to Useless's apartment (technically breaking and entering) for the purpose of committing homocide (else why bring a gun with a silencer?) Yes, that scene could be a great final exam scenario for Crim Law.

When they showed usless he looked like he has gold spray paint on him. I was sorry to see him go I really liked him. I think he looked good with short hair.
