Monday May 10, 2010 Rubi, Don't Take Your Love To Town*

Rafa gets drunk. Ale gets drunk. And even Rubi gets drunk. Nelson tries but as a born again vegetarian, into only natural food and drink, he just can't manage it. And that's it for the recap! Going to bed now.

Oh, you want more? You insist? Okay, a few more details then.

We open with a delicious replay of Rafa outfoxing Marino by giving the secretary a big discount on a future car purchase. This wins him a brief moment with the boss before Marino's scheduled appointment and presto! Rafa's got the contract and Marino's got the booby prize.

Back at Auto Siglo, Ale's trying to calm down Beltran, promising him he'll feel better when Marino comes back with the contract. Marino comes back with nada and Beltran feels a heart attack coming on. Didn't you tell me you were going to kill Medina? sneers Ale to Marino. Bring me his cadaver then.

Worse news once she huddles with Beltran. He decides the sales force needs more motivation so he'll give one percent of Ale's commission on institutional sales to them instead. Why not my whole salary? she snaps. Good idea, he chuckles. Grim prospect indeed.

But for Jaime and Julieta, it's coming up roses. Love is in full bloom. He's trying to help her with her homework but she's more interested in hot kisses. Within a moment, so is he. Major smooching. Homework forgotten.

After the ads, they're still kissing. Getting better with practice. Elsewhere, Rafa and Ale are both drinking their love woes away...separately. But they need help. He calls Jaime. She calls Susana. Here's the short version. She hates him. She loves him. She wants to kill him. She misses him. He's the love of her life. Short version Rafa style. New boss wonderful. Decent hours. Sunday off. Everybody super nice. I miss her. I miss her torture, the yelling, the humiliation, the slaps, the mistreatment. I love her!

How can I forget him?

How can I forget her?

What crime did I commit that she was put in my path?

What an idiot I was to hire him, train him and now he's killing Auto Siglo as the competition?

I miss her.

I miss him.

You get the picture.

Brief scene where a distraught Beltran hits the accelerator instead of the brake and bashes the back of our two cops' patrol car. He promises to fix things up for them at Auto Siglo and they agree as long as they can have a little "cafecito" while they wait. Things get better when they catch sight of the two hospitality girls with short skirts and awesome legs. Hope no crimes get committed while these two are ogling the merchandise.

Meanwhile, the drunken conversations are continuing. Susana is mildly amused and happy to sense that Marcos no longer figures in any of Alejandra's thoughts. Nope. But he's practically living at my house, sitting with Tia Rosario, helping out with dad.

Rafa mientras tanto is wondering what he can do about Vicky. The relationship is totally off track. He doesn't have the feelings necessary to continue with her. But her brothers will kill me if I don't. Jaime's advice. Marry her. Take off for Bangladesh. Lock her up. Lose her at the beach. Whatever. Come back and take up your life again. Okay....no counselor's license for Jaime. Who knew?

Vicky's also deeply engaged in conversation--with her good side and her bad side. Bad side looks like more fun and has a better costume. It's a toss-up. Act decently. No, go for it. Discussion interrupted by Dad and the need to fix dinner.

Back to our borrachos. Ale's chin is now resting on the table as she proposes having a pill to forget painful love affairs. How about something called "Olvidatex"? (sounds good to me, there was a time I could have used a lobotomy to get over a disastrous love affair). And Lordy, even Nelson is having a whack at getting drunk! But no, there's no natural healthy way to do it. He's doomed to deal with his feelings. Good boy.

From there we segue to Rubi's boobs. And I'm not kidding. The camera is practically nestling in her cleavage. And so is Jorge. She's spoon feeding him his dinner and he gets a big dose of bosom with every bite. And is positively thriving on it. But he's tired (no wonder) and wants to skip the bedtime story tonight if it's alright with Nursey. It is. She tucks him in, wishes him sweet dreams (you betcha) and is off to her other clients...er, patients.

Rafa arrives home, stone drunk, falling all over the couch, causing an uproar. Mom comes out and there's hell to pay. It's not just this one night. She knows about the half empty bottle of tequila in the cabinet. And she's afraid he's going to turn out like his dad the borracho. And she's not having it. Every night you shut yourself up with the tequila bottle until you go to sleep. You're becoming an alcoholic. Basta ya!

Same drill at Ale's house. With Tia Rosario leading the catechism lesson. You're so drunk you couldn't drive home. What if your dad saw you in this state? Absolutely decadent. What's more, I know about the bottle you're hiding in the office. And don't tell me it's work problems. You've had problems at work before. You're losing your grip. You're not the same. Ever since that...that man came into your life.

Life isn't any rosier at Auto Siglo. We see Nelson the next morning, at his desk early, making paper clip chains and hoping for a smile from Susana. He doesn't get it. But he does field a nasty ribbing from Marinero and a little support from Claudia who offers to link him up with the psychiatrist who treated pilots (at her previous workplace) who were suffering from mean-spirited wives. Zetina, mientras tanto, is making a little ecumenical shrine of his desk to chase away the evil spirits. (Every other salesman at that spot, including our dear Medina, has departed in disgrace). Marino kvetches about the nasty incense and once again Claudia is supportive, saying it's a free country and if Zetina wants to worship Hare Krishna and the Virgencita, go right ahead. (what's gotten into our Claudia? repentance? so early in the game?)

A repentant, and thoroughly hungover Ale, is trying to escape the house while Rubi, getting uppity, is yelling at the maid that the orange juice is too high in sugar for her Georgie. When Ale snaps, Rubi assures her that Papa wouldn't like Ale yelling at her either. I see trouble ahead. Ale manages to leave after another scolding from Tia. And drags into work late. The salespeople are buzzing and continuing their mutual insults. Marino is being characterized as the Hugo Sanchez of sales. And that name, alas, no longer signifies success. Since Marino knows nothing about soccer, and everything about his own importance, he misses the joke at first.

Ale heads straight for her office and a little girl talk with Susana. Upshot. Susana is like the black box in an airplane. The information she contains (about Ale's love life) will only be revealed if there's an accident. Otherwise....lips and black box sealed. Understood? Ale's had a little talk with God and is on the straight and narrow. Now gimme that Alka-Seltzer!

And a little guy talk at the bar with Chavez and Marcos. Chavez is counseling a full scale attack. Marcos prefers to go slow. No problem with last night's drinking binge 'cause there were no men involved. Slow and steady wins the race now.

Rafa's in full work mode at CloAutos while Pepeto hovers around his desk. He sets up an appointment and then Vicky calls. Miracle of miracles, he takes it. She's stunned. He tells her he'll meet her tonight. She's super stunned. So's Pepeto. In fact he feels Rafa's forehead to make sure he's not running a fever. Yep. Rafa's on the straight and narrow too.

After the ads, the first thing we see is a huge platter of hors d'oeuvres. And then we hear the Mañanitas and we learn it's Jorge's birthday. And Ale forgot! Fortunately Marcos and Tia Rosario remembered and have cooked up a lovely do with cake, champagne and later on, some mariachi singers with guitars. Lovely. Rubi's so festive she's allowing Georgie permission to eat all the sweets he wants. And that's not all. (tell you later)

Not so festive at Rafa's house. Vicky's banging on the door like she's the Gestapo. Interrupting Jaime and Julieta in full schmooch and they're not happy. And tell her so. Mom isn't either. She's heading to the kitchen. So Vicky makes do with waiting for Rafa in his bedroom. (we know this won't end well.) First thing she does is look around and decide that NONE of this crap is coming with him when they get married. Well, except for the picture of her and Rafa. And the little Virgencita statue. Now she opens a drawer. Oh my, what a mess. He'll thank me for organizing it. (yeah, right.) She finds the picture of him with Ale at the wedding. "¿Y esto, qué es?" The fat's in the fire now, folks.

Let's go back to a more charming scene. Jorge is right where he wants to be, nestled in Rubi's generous cleavage, wondering if he's really a year older. Surely not! A perfunctory opening of presents and an equally perfunctory thanks. Back to the cleavage. Still, he's pleased to see Alejandra and Marcos' name together on one of the packages. How wonderful that they're back together. But really, he feels born again. Brought back to life, thanks to the incredible care of his dear nurse and the affection of Marcos (alias Marcario etc.) whom he loves like a son. Marcos responds with an equal amount of schmoozing while Ale looks alternately worried and nauseated. Meanwhile, Rubi is hitting the champagne and promising Jorge eternal life as long as he's in her care. A toast to that!

Quick flash to Vicky. Not only has she found the photo, now she's found the love/reference letter. A letter that no one should write about a man who has a NOVIA!!!, namely Miss Vicky. Rafa arrives home at that moment, interrupting more kissing practice by Jaime and Julieta. Heads for his room when he realizes Vicky is there. Waving the picture, Vicky asks the key question:"¿Qué es esto?" Yep, fat is definitely in the fire.

Things are heating up at the birthday party too. Rubi, well into her cups (champagne cups, people!) hops onto Jorge's lap, opens up her uniform a bit more, and does a fair imitation of Marilyn Monroe singing Happy Birthday to our former president). Jorge's entranced. Ale and Rosario not so much. Marcos decides to call a cab for Rubi.

And now a prolonged and uncomfortable good-bye scene at the door. Ale just wants Marcos to leave. He keeps lingering. And sneaking in kisses. On the mouth. Which she backs away from. You're tired. YES. I've gotta go. YES. Sleep well. YES. Excuse Rubi. SURE. Finally he's out the door and she pushes it firmly shut.

Back in Rafa's room, he's not getting off so easy. Vicky's in full dudgeon now, shrieking out the words of the letter and wanting to know why the heck this inappropriate paen to his virtues is in his bedside table along with the photo. Plenty suspicious. Well, the photo's a keepsake. KEEPSAKE!? Er, yes, of my first big sale. That's all. And who's the woman. YOUR BOSS!? But you told me she was ugly. She's PRETTY!!!! No, no..uh, she's just photogenic. And remember, she's the one who embargoed my house, put me in jail, etc.

Well, if she's so bad, why do you keep her picture!? No problem in tearing it up I suppose. And rip, rip, rip. He gets his face, Vicky gets Alejandra's. You're crazy, he screams. You're the crazy one, snaps Vicky. And leaves. Slamming the door. And Rafa? He grabs his pillow and screams into it. And there we end.

* a mournful country song about a gal named Ruby who was off to fool around in the city, breaking her poor guy's heart

Previews:
Marcos drives Ale to work the next day (he took her car to drive home the night before) And sneaks in another kiss. Salespeople are sure they're back together again.
BUT Destiny has other plans. Ale and Rafa run into each other in the anteroom of a mutual client.

Vocabulary:
enganche initial = initial downpayment (what Rafa gave the secretary)
embaucar = trick, con
farsante = fraud, fake
arrebatar de las fauces = to snatch out of the jaws (what Rafa did when he snatched the sale out of Marino's hands)
cuartillas = sheets of paper (Julieta was to write on something. Eight pages worth. But she preferred kissing Jaime to doing homework.)
pocima = potion, concoction (Ale, in her drunken state, thinks Rafa must have drugged her to make her fall so hopelessly in love with him)
desvariar = to talk nonsense, to rave (Rafa talking about how his romance with Vicky makes no sense anymore)
asi se habla = now you're talking, atta boy
se te haya pasado las manos con las copas = you've had too much to drink

Dicho of the Day

Más vale pájaro en mano que ciento volando.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. (literally 100 in flight) However, looks like Vicky's pajarito has already flown the coop. And she knows it.

Judy, I didn't see these episodes so special thanks for bringing them to life for me. You Gancho people are something else. I never watched the show but occasionally perused the recaps and vocabulary. It was if Gancho was a creative writing class filled with the top students vying for a number one place Thanks for bringing your best over here to Dinero. And special thanks for the vocabulary.

P.S. I remember that Kenny Rogers song! Brings back a few memories and now it's running around in my head.

Good mornig Babara. Yep, Kenny Rogers has been running around in my head all night as well. The twin drunk scenes are actually on a youtube version that is not going to be yanked. So if you want to watch our two main actors playing "sloshed" looke for Dinero Capitulo 91.

The title was a perfect homage to the loveable, well endowed Rubi. Judy, Kenny could croon with the best of them and amiga, you write with the best of them. You perfectly captured the "drunken conversations". Excellent recap and of course, the vocabulary and dicho were wonderful.

"Hope no crimes get commited, while ogling the merchandise", "well into her cups (champagne cups people!) and "full dudgeon now" were simply great.

Jaime and Julieta were so sweet together. Jaime's advice to Rafa about Vicky? Not so much. :)

I enjoyed Vicky batttling with her conscience and agree that the "Bad side looks like more fun and has a better costume". Yes, the tarty costume did have an edge over the angel wings.

In order to calm Vicky down, I think Rafa's going to need to devise a better answer than: "No, no..uh, she's just photogenic".

Hmmmm.

Hey, I love it when those nice comments get posted twice. Thanks Barbara and double thanks to Diana.

As much as I like the character of Rubi, she's getting pretty snotty with the hired help and that concerns me. I'm sure Azucena will be back, but when?

Fun seeing Marino with egg on his face last night. I don't mind evil schemers as long as they consistently come up short.

Diana, I'm not sure there's any way to calm Vicky Vicky Vicky down. If Elna June were around she could give us a professional analysis of what's up with that lady. She's more than bi-polar and downright scary ALL the time.

Sorry about the double posting! When the first one didn't post after half an hour, thought it was lost!

Diana

Hi Judy, Loved your intro. You almost got me "going to bed now".

Way to go Rafa. GOOOOAL!!!!! Marino got the "booby prize". I enjoyed watching all the Siglo crew taking Marino down a notch.

I like how this show continues with the paralells; the Rafa and Ale drunk scenes, Lenora and Tia both letcuring Rafa and Ale about their drinking, and both their attempts at trying to forget about each other.

Our resident cops are so stupid. Some one should write them a ticket for excedding the legal limit of stupidity.

Vicky is a hoot. You knew the devil was going win. Rafas' face as she started ripping the picture was priceless.

I loved the whole Jorge birthday party. Marso is so smooth. He is whittling his way ever so slowly back into Ale's life.

I was cracking up when Rubi "well into her cups (champange cups people)" started giving Jorge a little lap dance.

Thanks again for the fun recap. I so appriciate your vocabulary and your very keen sense of humor.

Super recap Judy. I really loved the first paragraph. Very clever. Very playful. Very Judy.

I'm really taken by Vicki. My first exposure to her was at Julieta's birthday celebration and in that episode she didn't stand out and even seemed a bit mousy. Was I ever misled. Her inventory of Rafa's room was so funny. Her conversation with herself was wonderful... "Who are you guys anyway?" Excellent writing and acting. She is definitely my favorite character and unlike some others I've latched onto, with her, I wouldn't change a thing.

My favorite line of last night's show:

"She's photogenic."

That was inspired even if not totally convincing.

I'm enjoying Rubi's assertion of her new found power. I love over-reaching. She demonstrates that she certainly has what it takes to be a nurse.

Carlos

Good morning again. Had to struggle through a monsoon to get to class. Brrrrrr cold and nasty. Nice to get back to these nice warm comments before heading back out to class.

Pata, that first paragraph I meant "from the heart!!" Really hate these late night recaps and it sounds like we've all got double trouble till at least the end of May. Yowsa. We're really going to learn how to do it muy rapido like Melinama does. I still don't know how she manages to get them done so fast.

Carlos, with Vicky, you've taken on quite a project. Drawn to pathological females are you? Well, heck, somebody has to love 'em. As Vivi said, you really need to see her in action with a butcher knife, or hurling meat at the wall. Quite the vixen.

I felt so bad for Rafa when she ripped up the picture last night.

Judy I loved your recap. I not only learn Spanish from you but also English. "to outfox is" such a neat word, but I've never heard it before. Thank you so much.

Drunken Ale and Rafa were so convincing. I loved the scene when Ale came back home drunk, almost fell down the steps and said "I haven't drunk anything".

The almost lap dance was hilarious. Though I'm happy Ruby stopped when she did. If not, they would have to bring Rosario to the ER. On the second thought, hmmm..., maybe she would get a beefcake male nurse then?

Maria, glad you enjoyed "outfox". We lose sight of how colorful our own language is. Nice to be reminded.

Now if you're learning both Spanish and English, may I ask what your mother language is? I would never have known, from your posts, that you were not a native speaker of English. Well done, amiga.

Judy,

Terrific recap as usual & I always appreciate your vocab.

I also like the ongoing parallels between Ale & Rafe's lives. I'm also fond of the frequent insertion of cartoons , storyboards and VV's good & bad sides.

Yes, Marcos was very smooth tonight and Rubi's birthday song was wonderful.

Güerra from Syracuse

Hi Güera...I was hoping I'd see you around the "new neighborhood" eventually.

Yes, parallel scenes are always nice and seem to be a classic telenovela device.

When I was first recapping and desperately trying to find some kind of bone structure to wrap the recap around, the parallel scenes always stood out. Some are more subtle than others.

Often you'll have a warm, loving naco family scene around the dinner table, followed by a cold, contentious dinner scene with the rich folks.

Or a loving scene with one couple, followed by a hateful scene with another.

Anyway, looking for structure can sometimes be desperate, the way these novela scenes bounce around, but the borracho sequence was long, well played, and very entertaining. The actors always seem to have fun doing this type of numerito.

I liked Ale's characterization of Susana as being a "black box". Interesting concept and first time I've heard it in a telenovela. Only open in case of accident!

Judy, thanks for a wonderful recap. I felt a little down about the show, with so much going wrong, but you made it sound so harmless and fun, I can look at the events a different way now.

I liked how the 3 Vickys had completely different eye makeup to emphasize their personalities.

I don't really like drunk scenes that much, but they seem to be such a big part of so many novelas, I'll just go with the flow. At least neither of them drove home.

Marco is playing it so well, he even has me liking him. I think this is because he's not really faking his love for Ale. Sure, the plan was to get the money, and he's had a bunch of "adventures", but he really does desire Ale, so his gifts and helping the family don't seem fake (unlike Hissabel on Gancho, who always rolled her eyes).

Hi JudyB,

So glad you've joined us on this show. For those who have been bemoaning the lack of hunkaliciousness here I have to say -- too bad you missed Marcos in his cowboy hat & leather a few months ago. The actor is pretty good looking but he was really quite hot in that getup. It was when he met Karen for the first time & she invited him to a horseback riding event.

Back then ( for newcomers) Marcos was very into Karen and trying to play her on the side while still moving Alejandra toward the altar. It got to close for comfort once he discovered that Karen's uncle is an old friend of Jorge -- and a lawyer to boot. He was going to look into the embargo of the hacienda and that would have turned up the shady dealings of Marcos & Chavez.

Güera

Judy, terrific recap and you have them up so soon for me since I'm on the West coast and up late waiting for C S to start at midnight.

I loved the dueling Vicky shoulder angel and Vicky shoulder devil...can we say psychotic since she is obviously talking to herself. Also I loved when she tore up the photo of Ale and Rafa and took the Ale half leaving poor Rafa disconsolate with his own photo. This discovery does not bode well for Rafa as if things couldn't be much worse but they probably will be.

GinCA

Wonderful recap Judy! I missed most of the 2nd half because I switch to CS at 9:00 on a different channel. The Kenny Rogers song is so haunting, you can't forget it. But this Rubi is nice to her older guy! She was really getting carried away with the champagne, and I thought she was hinting at a special present for Georgie - or did I misunderstand that?

VVV is increasingly crazy, I, too enjoyed the angel/devil scene. This TN is so creative and fun - like when Rafa was naming the lobsters. I just hope he can escape the brothers Grimm and their knives if he tells VVV the truth. Probably not coming any time soon, though.

I didn't mind the drunk scenes, they both did a good job at it. At least it reveals how they both feel.

Ivy

Thanks for the recap Judy. You're putting thqt song into everybodies head. Besides Marino, I think Jorge got the booby prize on his birthday. Anyway...

PSAs tonight on both sides. About time someone talking to Rafa about that drinking. He has been drinking too much. Not sure about Ale, she's drinking more often.

I do like the switching back and forth from Ale to Rafa with both saying the same thing. One way to keep them together while they are apart.

Poor Nelson, ruined, can't even get drunk any more.

Not good having Vicky go into Rafa's room.
Carlos, now you see there is getting to be more to Vicky than you may have originally thought. She wield a mean knife. I've assumed Ale and Rafa together, Jaime and Julieta, not sure who will get Vicky in the end? Been trying to figure that out.

Attention Medical Professionals. Many of us Caray fans are here to improve our Spanish. Finally a drama that might provide you health care professionals with some vocabulary relevant to your situation. A Corazón Abierto, a Colombian show based on Gray's Anatomy, starts Mon at 7pm on Telemundo. The writing of was supervised by Fernando Gaitán, the genius of the Feas, plus Dinero and Hija del Mariachi. Cast includes JAE of Betty la fea. See press release on TNW.

Hi all. Back from my midday meeting and enjoying reading all your comments.

Starting from the bottom: Paula, yet another reason for me to sulk, having only one channel en español. Sulk sulk sulk. Okay, I'm over it, but that sounds like a show I'd love watching.
* * *

Jeff...Jorge won the booby prize. Wicked comment and you are going to burn in infierno! Funny though.

* * *

Hi GinCa. Glad I could give you something to read while you were up waiting to watch Corazon Salvaje. No way could I do that. In fact, recapping this double novela is the first time I've been up TILL midnight in years (other than taking care of newborns)

Hola Ivy! Yes, Rubi WAS hinting at a special present for Jorge. I think that was part of the reason Ale look alternately worried and nauseous. Our boobalicious nurse promises a lot of fun to come, apart from the Happy Birthday lap dance. All good.

I hear Dinero is holding its audience for the second hour, and I suspect our toothsome Rubi may be part of the reason. As Vivi said "the nurse will see you now"....and you will most certainly see a lot of the nurse!
* * *
Hombre, thanks for noting the different eye makeup on the Vicky I, Vicky Satan and Vicky Angel. That completely slipped past my conscious mind.

I too dislike drunk scenes. They're usually prolonged, often overacted and serve to erroneously reinforce the idea that getting drunk is the way to deal with problems, and is hysterically funny besides. Not true in real life and not a good message.

If you've ever had an alcoholic friend or relative, these scenes are disturbing. But glad you can go with the flow, and glad other people actually enjoy them. Different strokes.

Ah hah, Güera, I'm beginning to see Marcos possibilities. Glad to know he looked semi-hawt in his cowboy getup.

Thanks too for the background on Marcos and Karen. I'm a stranger in Paradise here, and several of us....Diana, Carlos and Hombre...are also new to the novela. Anything you veterans can throw in to help us orient ourselves in the story will really help.

I suspect I will never understand the hacienda embargo, even had I been in this from the beginning. But that's me. Talk business and I go comatose.

Judy, FYI, Telemundo generally posts the full episodes on their site as well.

Judy,

Just another fantastic recap amiga. Thanks so much for all the vocab and dichos too.

This show continues to give me some good chuckles each evening. Vicky and her angel and devil (or for you CS watchers, her Regina and her Aimee). The devil is much closer to her own personality, so of course it was going to win. Plus the better costume. :)

Although drunk scenes are often done in novelas Hombre, I thought the way they did it here was different and creative. The other day when we saw both Rafa and Ale pouring themselves a drink all alone at the end of the day, I didn't even think anything of it. And the only thing I thought the other day when Rafa mentioned his drunken dad was, hey, they'll probably be bringing in long lost dad as a new character soon. The last thing I thought is that they were leading to a storyline of both Ale and Rafa getting on a long slippery slope to alcoholism. I've never seen that in a tn for both the galan and the heroine. As far as PSAs go in novelas, this was a really good one and very well done. And we got some really funny drunk scenes too. :)

I really hope Susannah softens to Dandy soon and lets him talk to her. Looking forward to Ale and Rafa meeting face to face tonight.

Hi Vivi. I always love your thoughtful analysis. And thanks for pointing out that these Dinero drunk scenes do have a useful PSA quality to them.

I too hope that Susana softens. I thought she was, a bit, in a previous episode, but the icy crust seems to have re-formed.

Melinama pointed out once that Ale needed to grow up a lot before she and Rafa could really get together. And Dandy (Nelson) probably has a lot of past deeds he needs to think about and make amends for, before he and Susana can be happily ever after.

That's what I tell myself at least, when I have a hard time waiting. My druthers would be for instant reconciliation and riotous happiness. But it doesn't happen in real life and evidently it's not going to happen here either.

Hey, Hombre if you are still out there,

I don't think that Marcos has any real affection for Ale. His macho pride is hurt by the thought that she cheated -- and with someone from such humble origins at that. But he has shown real distaste for her in his conversations with Chavez. Until she "done him wrong" he was only putting up with her in order to get married quickly and to get control of the hacienda. And just days ago he was sniffing 'round Karen again. No, hot he may be but nice he ain't ( nor in love with Ale, since he's so in love with himself.)

Güera

Güera, I was also thinking Marco really is sweet on Ale and that she doesn't care for him. He certainly was solicitous with her last night and Jorge seems very fond of him. I gather that he isn't the good guy and yet in the short time I've watched, he seems like a really good guy, at least the way he is with Ale, her family, and with Rubi. Of course his actions at Julieta's birthday party weren't very nice either. Even so, I've been really liking his character so far.

Carlos

Yeah, I'm not sure Marco is bad through and through, he seems to have more dimension than that. I've been watching from the beginning and I, too, think maybe he likes Ale more than he thought he did or wanted to - along with the hurt pride. The thing is, all the help he is giving financially to the family is not his money. He is using their money from the hacienda and ripping them off, so that isn't what it appears to be. He and Chavez are awfully funny villains, though, so I find it hard to dislike Marco.

Claudia, though, is a different story even though as you say she has said some sensible things lately. If you haven't been watching you may not know she has had sex with Marco and has been tryint to get him in bed again. She also is the source for all of the misunderstanding between Ale and Rafa and Susana and Dandy, she was the one passing information to people.

What Melinama said about people needing to grow in order to be with the other person has helped me, too, especially when Ale has been so unreasonable about Rafa.

Carlos- The beauty of our villains in this show (except for Marino) is that they all have very likeable/fun qualities. Marco and Chavez are the main villains, but I just love seeing them together and seeing Marco think quickly on his toes to get out of a sticky situation- like seeing him try to tame Rubi. I don't believe he loves Ale at all. It's all about pride and claiming the prize he was convinced was his (Ale and the hacienda). But unlike other novelas where you can't believe how the heroine could fall for the lies of the villain, I can see how Ale would totally fall for Marco's bs.

And Vicky is a hilariously wacky villain. Even Claudia, who I put just after Marino in my dislike category, can be fun and funny.

Judy, you are very kind saying that you would have never guessed that I'm not a native speaker. My native language is Polish.

Not kind, Maria...just sayin'. Really impressed with your language skills. A few years ago, there was a gal on this line from Russia. Her English was perfect and she was learning Spanish at the speed of light. One smart cookie and so are you.

Guys, enjoyed your discussion of Marcos and Claudia. I know Claudia is bad...and granted I haven't watched from the beginning....but I sense she is a sad gal underneath all the sexy come-ons. She doesn't believe in love (cue her derision of Dandy's falling in love with Susana) but maybe that's because she's been used and dumped so many times.

Or maybe she's just a bi***h. Time will tell.

Marcos would have me completely fooled if I hadn't seen a few earlier episodes. But...maybe....he didn't realize he cared for Ale until he lost her. Some narcissistic idiots are that way. In the past, he's shown himself to be completely shallow, a skirt-chaser of the first order. But now two skirts seem to be eluding his grasp...Ale and Karen.

Don't know if he's capable of caring for anyone or is just a darn good con man.

My favorite of all is still Rubi. There's a gal who gives value for money.

PS I know there are more of you out there watching Dinero, because when Melinama asked you to comment, you did.

Please continue to comment. Your voices enrich the discussion. And the blog interaction is just as important as the episode and the recaps.

Your unique personalities, points of view, and even off-topic thoughts are not only welcome, they are needed.

Hope you will feel free to contribute...daily and often, as you have the time.

Judy, and you call me tender-hearted. I think Claudia is just as bad as Marino. Maybe not as evil intentionally, but just as bad and manipulatively talented.

I don't know if you were watching in the beginning but the guy who worked there just before Rafa and sat at the same unlucky desk was fired because of her. She was trying to "talk" him out of some of his comissions and they got caught in the bathroom making out. Ale wanted to fire her, but Beltran said the other guy had to go. And he had been there longer and was a better salesman.

Thinking about it a bit more, I do agree that since they really did show the bad effects of the drinking, the parallel drunk scenes did have a beneficial purpose. Not only that, but they used a word I never heard before, alcoholizarse, to make oneself drunk, or become an alcoholic. One of the fun things about Spanish is you can turn almost any noun into a verb meaning the same thing.

Judy that was another of your phenomenal recaps. The Dinero team must be very happy to have you.

The only thing: "engancho inicial", it's actually enganche with an "e". But I'm almost sure it was a typo because the word reminded you of Gancho. Aw. Our dearly departed show.

Jarocha

Thanks Jarocha. I'll fix that! And yes, I'm missing Gancho mucho!

Pata, you've figured me out. I'm as much of a softie as you....and more! Believe it or not, I was secretly hoping that the ultra-wicked Isabel of Gancho could be redeemed. I think I was the only one.
