Dinero Monday 9/13/2010 Daniel Takes A Test Drive....On Ale!

Whew...tonight was a night of attempted seductions with Pepeto putting the moves on Rosaura and Daniel hitting on Alejandra. And can we count Vicky's screechy threats that Rafa is going to marry her or else? And if he tries to go for Alejandra, it's over her dead body? Not really romance at it's best, particularly the loathsome Daniel's heavy handed attempt. Reminds me of a lot of dreadful dates back in my youth.

Here's are the details on how things went tonight. First, we're treated to some very sexy dancing at El Bongo Azul.
Seems like Rosaura really got into that kind of music when she was in Miami. Pepeto finds her sizzling indeed. So much so that he wants to "comerte a besos" (eat you up with kisses) and does just that until interrupted by the General. She's determined to keep her roomate on the straight and narrow until she's well and fully divorced from Gabriel. Good advice, actually. Wish more people followed it.

Well, the kisses stop and instead we're landed with another poem" written in blood" by the General's pompous poet friend. Guts, large intestine, small intestine and then poor lonely "piloro". Not in my Oxford, but in my Larousse it's given as "abertura inferior del estomago por donde se communica con el intestino." How d'ya like them apples? Pepeto wisely decides to skip the poetry and ask Rosaura to dance again.

While this intestinal literature is being declamed, Rosario and Jorge are cogitating how they can promote some romance between" Macario" and Ale. Definitely will have to sell the hacienda, move out and leave these two to ratchet up the marital intimacy. Ale is horrified, rolls her big eyes and thinks "No way!" Marco bops in the door and also protests that he doesn't mind sleeping on the couch and there's no reason for them to move out.

Quintana arrives next, mutters to Marco that he'll meet him later at the Bar de Pascual and Jorge fondly notes that with everybody gathered round, the only family member missing is his dear Rubi. That gets roundly denounced by Ale who's thrilled the curvaceous redhead remained back in Switzerland.... making cheese maybe? And will Jorge remember the number of his Swiss bank account? Stay tuned on that one.

After the ads, we find ourselves at Rafa's house. He's fretting on two fronts: Where's Ale going tomorrow? And where the heck is Julieta tonight? Well, turns out our Julieta was lollygagging around talking to the slimy Cesar and he even asked her out to a nightclub. This is roundly nixed by big bro. No way are you going out with someone you hardly know. Well, he's a lot nicer than that Jaime, snaps Julieta, and flounces out of the room.

Time for twin scenes of our erstwhile lovers. Ale tosses and turns, dreaming of the almost kiss at the office with Rafael. And our Rafa, twists and turns as well, saying to himself that he could swear she still loves him and oh! how he dreams of kissing those lips again.

And just like that, it's a new day.

Trapito has the spiffy red sports car ready for Ale. If he could just extricate his bulk from it. He finally does, lovingly tucks her in...."Remember your seat belt"....and sends her forth to deliver the car to Daniel for a test drive.

Meanwhile, Rafa, nervous as a cat, is trying to rush through the sales meeting so he and the Pantera can race off after his licenciada. He briskly notes the tepid sales. Claudia defends their poor showing by pointing to the economic crisis. Ramirez would like to expand on that... at length... but Rafa cuts him short. Regardless of the economy, we have to show folks we've got great cars, great deals and sell with enthusiasm! Bebe's on board. Rafa's ready to wrap it up. They can sing the anthem without him. He rushes forward, trips and falls into those deep canyons known as Claudia's cleavage, extricates himself and rushes out. Claudia hoists her boobs back up and salutes the anthem and we leave them singing their hearts out.

We're now at Daniel's abode which is luxurious. But Ale's not interested. She reluctantly gets in the passenger seat so our creepy galan can test drive the car. She's wants to get this over with as quickly as possible. He clearly has other plans.

Meanwhile, Rafa's getting the bad news. The "client" Ale's with is Daniel Cepeda. Now thoroughly alarmed, he and the Pantera set off in nervous pursuit of his gal. To the rescue!

Daniel's out on the highway with Ale protesting she needs to get back to work. And now they're out in the middle of nowhere, facing a little cabin that somehow reminds me of the witch's house in Hansel and Gretel. Our gal is reluctant to go in but Daniel insists. "I won't bite", he adds with a smile. But dang! it turns out he will! And Rafa has lost them now. Clearly trouble is on the way.

Our slimey would-be seductive insists on opening up a bottle of French wine while he shows off his numerous horse trophies and polo exploits. And why not a toast to the spiffy new sports car. You ARE going to buy it, then, prods Ale.

While we worry about this, we're whisked back to the bar where Quintana and Marco are meeting, observed by Zetina. They're haggling over the hacienda. Quintana sees no point in selling it when they're still making a profit. But if Marco does insist on selling, he wants a percentage. No way! We're having to sell it for a song. But why.? Let them know it's free and clear now and sell it for what it's worth. Marco insists on doing it his way and dismisses Quintana. Marry Rosario if you love her and go live elsewhere, he snaps. Quintana leaves. Zetina looks intrigued.

More seduction. Don't know which is worse, these endless hacienda discussions or Daniel's attempts to make himself interesting . He's now droning on about "dressage" and how one must be the perfect couple ("binomio perfecto") with the horse in order to perform. But he's fascinated by beauty and power. Whether it be in horses, sports cars or.....you Alejandra. He keeps moving in, she keeps moving away, and out on the highway, Rafa keeps stressing. Where where where have they gone?

Glug glug glug goes Ale, gulping down her wine and announcing that it's time to leave. Alas, no. Daniel hasn't finished his wine yet. And surely Auto Siglo can get along without her for a little more time? He decides to move the campaign to her weak side...her marriage with Marco. Do you really love him? She refuses to answer. Aha, that tells me I have hope. If you loved him, you would have said "yes". He's off for a bathroom break (that is NOT romantic) but warns her that he has the keys to the car, so don't think about escaping.

Ugh. More tedious discussions between Chavez and Marcos. You know the drill. How do we keep draining the gold mine of the hacienda. And keep Quintana's mouth shut. And satisfy Carmela. And somehow get Ale pregnant so she won't divorce Marco. And yada yada yada. When Chavez brings up Medina, this is good for another eye-popping fit by Marco.

Daniel's back on the job, purring about Ale's dominant personality and shifting the discussion now to her parents. They say the best way to know a woman is to know how she gets along with her family, he rumbles. Live with my dad and aunt, my mom's dead, snaps our licenciada. Now let's go. He prattles on about how she's a woman who can't be tamed. She thinks to herself that he's a man who's insupportable.

We're back to Auto Siglo and potential romance is simmering there as well. Pepeto sidles up behind Rosaura and wants to talk. She doesn't. Not here anyway. He persists. Are you going to divorce your husband, he pleads, taking her hand. ROSAURA!..It's Gabriel, her stuffy marido. And Pepeto and Rosaura's hands are still linked. Stay tuned for this as well.

Back at the cabin, Ale's trying to make her escape, with or without Daniel and the car. He reminds her they're in a little cabin in the woods, miles away from civilization. Give me the keys, she demands. Okay. But first.....and the brute grabs her and plants a very unwanted kiss on those lips that we know belong to Rafa, by golly! And there the episode ends.

Previews:
Alejandra has not re-appeared at Auto Siglo. Even Doña Arcadia knows after checking her hidden cameras.
But Rafa appears to be riding to the rescue. Will he get there in time?

Vocabulary:
Pretty sketchy tonight. I'm dead tired.

trinquetero = swindler, cheat
piloro = opening from stomach into the intestine
manos a la obra = let's get to it (Jorge, talking about moving out and leaving Marco and Ale together)
ahi van = there they go
yo te abro = I'll open the door for you (Daniel to Ale, getting intlo the car)
hablar sin máscaras= lit. talk without masks, talk frankly
binomio perfecto = perfect couple

Dicho of the Day
We all know this one.
Aqui hay gato encerrado. There's something fishy here. (Daniel and his seduction plans for the cabin. Run Ale run!!!)

Hi Judy, Wow!! You always impress me when you get these up so quick and complete and with Vocabulary to boot. Thank you!!

I really don't like that Daniel at all. What a jerk!! Poor Rafa driving around looking for her. I hope she doesn't get mad at him if they meet up.

I sort of like the idea of Pepeto and Rosaura together. He seems sincere. Although the general was absolutely right about getting a divorce first. She really has been a good friend to Rosaura. That has been a sweet part of this story I have liked.

So thanks again Judy. They are not giving us much in the plot but they certainly are upping the antie with our endings. All these cliffhangers.

Judy, thanks for such a witty and delightful recap. "Guts, large intestine, small intestine and then poor lonely "piloro". Not in my Oxford, but in my Larousse..." What a kick I got out of Señor Poet and your dictionary. Yep, I liked them apples a bunch.

Pata, I agree Pepeto seems sincere (but don't most expert womanizers?) but I have trouble seeing them in a relationship where Rosaura is so pretentious and feels that Pepeto is her inferior. The show has made fun of Rosaura but has done nothing to show us that she has opened up her mind to "all men are created equal". Though she may be attracted to Pepeto, she is somewhat horrified by it and thinks she is "slumming". If Pepeto does care for Rosaura, I would not want to see him in a liason where she feels that she has to make excuses for him and their relationship.

I agree that La Generala has been a good friend to Rosaura. It's been a pleasure to watch.

"And just like that, it's a new day." That really is a neat segue for our animated rooster. Can't remember if that was courtesy of Pata or Private 057 though.

Daniel is such a slime ball.

Good morning Pata and Barbara. This episode had FILLER written all over it, didn't it? And hard to believe that an experiences, presumeably sophisticated fella like Daniel would engineer such a clumsy and rushed seduction attempt.

The romance between Rosaura and Pepeto can only be short-term, because, as she herself pointed out, he wouldn't jibe with her kids or her planned return to the higher end of life in Miami. And neither one seems to earn enough to support themselves much less a family. Reality bites.

Still, these telenovelas are not about reality. So maybe we'll have a big flaming romance after all.

Speaking of "reality", I guess "pilori" is the pyloric valve....is that what it's called? Something is wafting up from memories of physiology class back in '61. Does that sound right Dr. Carlos...or Barbarba...or anyone?

Judy: What a perfect pick me up for a dreary Tuesay morning! Intriguing, thoughtful and wonderfully fun. Stellar as always.

While I loved "intestinal literature", your quotes abouyt Daniel, "our slimey would-be seductive" were my favorite:"Don't know which is worse, these endless hacienda discussions or Daniel's attempts to make himself interesting", and "He's now droning on Daniel's back on the job, purring...".

While the vocabulary and dicho were wonderful (and greatly appreciated), I enjoy the English vocabulary gems you often scatter throughout just as much such as "cogitating". :)

I agree with you, Pata and Barbara that Daniel is the pitts. But the actor really does sleezeball well!

Diana

Hi Diana. Sorry to hear it's dreary your way. We're hoping for sunshine hereabouts, although it's still darkish right now.

The actor playing Daniel does do slimeball well. Now that Fea is being repeated on daytime TV we see him playing the ultra-slime buddy of Jaime Camil and he's indeed a very low-crawling guy. Best remembered though, by you and me, as the hysterically inept suitor in Gancho. Have a great day amiga.

This was for sure a filler/set-up episode, but you gave us all the best bits Judy.

Will Rafa find Ale in Daniel's clutches and rescue her? This could lead to some sweet romantic Ale and Rafa moments, which would be nice. But given that Ale is married, they probably wouldn't go very far.

As for our other married lady and her suitor- Pepeto and Rosaura have been taking baby steps, which I like. It started with attraction, which at the time was just a game and another conquest for him, and a stark sign that something was wrong in her marriage (if she was so tempted by Pepeto) for her. But it has evolved, although slowly. Pepeto is now more sure that what he wants is something serious with Rosaura (even though he still appreciates the view when a lovely lady goes by). And Rosaura has put on the table exactly what a relationship with her would mean- the package deal with her kids and her expectation of a certain kind of lifestyle. Pepeto was not scared off by either of these things. And I noticed in that final scene when her husband came in, that Pepeto did not drop Rosaura's hand guiltily or look scared. He looked like he was ready to fight for the woman he loves. He was standing his ground.

As for Rosaura, so much of what she says is just talk and most of it is likely not true. She is tougher than she lets on and she has managed to fit into the blue collar, tequila drinking, salsa club going, working class just fine. Once she drops the pretense of being upper class and above it all, she will be perfectly happy. She could be happy with Pepeto, and he would treat her like a princess, which she doesn't get with her current rigid husband.

Thanks Judy. You've done a masterful job with last night's episode. It was chock full of fun and games even though looking back on it, not a whole lot really happened. Even so, the show was a treat as your recap reflects so well.

Daniel has progressed, however. He began as an annoying nuisance and has grown up to be almost a menacing threat. I likened him to Pepe le Pew last week. He kept turning up in his relentless pursuit of Marian, then directed his clumsy efforts toward Ale last week. Now that he's lured her back to his lair, his feral instincts seem to be taking hold. I can't think of a thing Ale has done to encourage this aggressive behavior. Fortunately, it appears that Rafa is riding to the rescue in his faithful Pantera. I'm betting that Ale will be happy to see them both.

My favorite scene was the poet and his poem. His ode to the GI tract is hilarious. This guy cracks me up. Too bad no one wanted to hear his other poem. I found it interesting that píloro in Spanish also mean muskrat. Does this count as a muskrat sighting?

Carlos

Wow Vivi. Thanks for that in depth analysis of the Pepeto/Rosaura romance. I have shrugged it off as strictly a dalliance, with Pepeto losing interest once things get "real". But I could be wrong.

And Carlos, many thanks for the on-line reference for pilori. It can't be that common a word if it wasn't in my big ol' 20-pound Oxford. But who knows, it may start turning up now that we're aware of it.

Glad you enjoyed the "ode to the digestive tract". That makes one! (no, come to think of it, the folks at the antro did applaud. Or maybe they were applauding because it was over.

Judy- I could be wrong too. But although this show is silly most of the time, at the core is the idea about change and evolution. Those conversations Ale had with the whole Siglo crew way back when sort of set it up.
-Rafa has transformed himself from a street hawker, to a professional and successful salesman.
-Ale is still a work in progress, but when we met her she was so focused on things (having the biggest wedding, best apartment, that silly expensive pen for Marco, etc.), and now she is focused more on family.
-Pepeto is trying to make the same transformation Rafa made, and perhaps now changing from a womanizer, to committing to one very high maintenance woman, with kids!
-Rosaura is losing her high class airs little by little, learning to not rely on her husband and social standing, and taking more pride in her work and her friendships with the Siglo crew.
-Dandy the womanizer has been completely transformed by his love for one woman, Susana. He sais it himself long ago that she makes him want to be a better man and human being.
-Both scoundrels Marco and Quintana have fallen for their prey (Ale and Rosario). We will have to see how those feelings eventually affect their plans and their fates.
-Ramirez has pursued getting his books published, started a romance (with one of Marino's women), and is talking back to Marino more and more.
-Jimenez moved out of his in-laws' and got his own place for his family (although they keep following him), started doing architecture work again, and is seeing a therapist to try to work through his intimacy difficulties with his wife.
-Claudia continues to falter. What will it take to make her change, I wonder?
-Marino and the General never saw anything wrong with themselves. But even the two of them have stepped up to the plate and been good friends (they took in Rosaura and Ramirez when they needed places to stay). And the General has been very good and patient with Rosaura.
-Bebe never needed to change. He just needs to retire. I hope we get to see him reach that stage by the end of the show, so he and his beloved wife can spend time together.
-Susana has learned to be more accepting (Dandy) and more flexible (not physically, because she was already that) with her values. She was actually too truthful before. Now she's learning to be more tactful, and not blurt everything out to Ale, since she joined Rafa's secret club.

None of these changes happened overnight (like in most novelas). They've been subtle, but I think very purposeful. So the transformation of Pepeto is something I think the writers are serious about.

Vivi, your comment was really insightful. You have such a gift at explaining where the characters are, where they have been and hopefully where they are headed.

I forgot to mention how cute I thought the scene was when Ale gave Trapito a little treat for getting the car. Just like she did when she was trying to get information from him about the crew when they snuck out to trancazo the first time. Much smoother than Doña arcadia smacking him for info.

Pata I liked that scene too. In fact, Ale tells him "te quiero", and he says the same, but respectfully. And he makes sure she buckles up. Very cute.

If you want to see Trapito in not-so-sweet mode, take a glance at today's La Vedad Oculta racap. He's in the very first screen shot photo, threatening another prisoner.

Thanks for the great recap and vocabulary Judy! Many of you have said it already, but Daniel is such a slimeball! I'd like to see Ale slap him a few times. Good thing Rafa's searching for her. This could give them some much needed alone time to talk things out.

Vivi, your character analysis is perfect. They've all come so far since the beginning of the show and hopefully they'll keep going in the right direction.

Judy, thanks for another wonderful recap, you beautifully conveyed both the comedy and the tragedy of our show.

I still can't see Rosaura and Pepeto working out, but Vivi's analysis gives me more hope for them. And what an incisive analysis it was! Thank you, Vivi.

One character who still has some growing to do is Julieta, but I guess she has to experience some more real life before she can wake up and smell the roses.

I sort of hope Claudia will do something terrific or noble in the end, somewhat like what happened to the sexy girl on LFMB.

Wow. Terrific comments y'all. Very interesting discussion going on here. Vivi, you're the Dostoesvsky of the group. I doubt the writers are reading our little blog, but if they were, they would feel VERY APPRECIATED. Any writer would be blissful that someone was that cognizant of the focus and thrust of their work. Bien hecho, amiga!

So Claudia is still iffy. Absolutely. And for Pepeto, I'm too much of a cynic. But I'd love to be proved wrong.

Thanks Judy, really nice and funny recap.

Thanks to Vivi also for the character analysis, that was super.

Hopefully Rafa will find Ale and they will have time to talk, but will she believe anything that he says? She seems to believe that he still loves her, so there is hope.

Judy, thank you for jet another excellent recap with excellent title.

I love the comments today. I haven't read the blog or commented in a while, but despite being tired with the filler material I can't stop watching the show.

I think Pepeto and Rosaura have a good chance of being together. They never showed her kids, so the viewers do not think about the world falling apart for the little creatures. I think for the same reason Himenez has a good chance of leaving his wife.

Judy, I forgot to mention how much I like your title. You always come up with something very clever to use and today it is very funny nicely sums up the episode as well.

I always try to figure out what is on the TV in Rafa's home that is playing incessantly. For a while it was Pasión. Lately it's been Tontas. I've never noticed a commercial playing, however. It seems like this is not the only TN that I've watched where a TV was always playing in the background.

Carlos

Can't post my comments. Keep getting "service unavailable"

Okay. that one "took".

Kat, hi. Like you, hope that since we're at "etapa decisiva" that really spells L.O.V.E. for Rafa and Ale.

Maria...glad to see you back after a busy summer of working and having the kids out of school. Bienvenida.

Maria and Carlos, thanks for the props on the title. That's my bugaboo. Like Rafa, I'm going "Que hago? Que hago?" while writing the recap. Only at the end can I think of something.
