Dinero Mon. 10/4/2010 We're Dealin' ........

Lots of deals going down tonight. Marino's trying to pitch woo and a fleet of trucks. Marian's trying to reel in Rafa again. Marco has plans to thwart Rafa and Ale's romance. Milagros is determined to land Ramirez as a novio. And Daniel has the ultimate deal--the hacienda for Miss Ale herself. So......we had three or four funny moments tonight and a whole lot of misery and manipulation. Let's just start with the raunchy humor and soft pedal the drama. We know the bad stuff won't last so why wallow in it now?

Marino's foray into medieval trucking offices staffed by an oversexed secretary was fun. She offered to heat up his....er, water for coffee and basically was breathing down his neck the whole time. Hard to fathom his charm, but it seems hyper-potent, if short-lived, in this novela. Even better were his negotiations with the eccentric trucking owner. If I'm not offering you the best price ever for the best trucks ever, just stab me in the back, huffs Marino, at which point, the sword from a suit of armor on the wall falls off and slices through his suit jacket. Good stuff. Well at least it was compared to the skulduggery being foisted by Marcos.

Another great moment was the arrival of our equally oversexed nunicita Milagros. For equally unfathomable reasons, she's determined that pompous Ramirez become her novio. When she catches sight of Señora Gloria and all the other wives hovering outside Auto Siglo, she doubles her threat. Not only will she tell Ramirez' mamita on him, she'll let Marino know Ramirez is doing one of his wives. Oh yeah. So man up buddy. I want three dates with you a week, plus you take me to Mass every Sunday. And that's the deal, señor. One more thing. A besito. Lips tightly pursed at la Rafita, she zeroes in and their lips do touch. Another G-rated kiss, but that's all the romance we're getting tonight. Yep. Slim pickings, indeed.

The other bright spot was Daniel having a conversation with Claudia's boobs. No kidding. If you asked him the color of her eyes, I'm sure he couldn't tell you. But a description of her chest....every last detail. She'd love to do him, er, help him find a car but at that moment, Profesora Arcadia calls him to the office. Alas, the moment he turns away from Claudia's monumental cleavage, he's greeted with Trapito's equally monumental buns waving in the air as he cleaned under a car. From the sublime to the....well, forget it. That's it for fun tonight. Let's deal with the painful parts now.

Rafita is prowling around the jail, griding his teeth, hyperventilating and waiting for a call from Jaime. The latter reminds him that coming to blows won't solve anything and he needs to talk to Marco and do whatever is necessary to get Mama Leonor out of jail.

While we fret and worry about Leonor and Rafa, we also get to worry about Jorge. He's depressed and wants to die. And if he can't be buried in his own backyard, just round up a flower pot and put his ashes in there. This calls for more hand-wringing from Rosaura.

Back at the office, Ale's doing a little hand wringing as well. She has a good idea of what Marco will demand. And she's also worried about Marian Celeste who's made it clear that she's still after Rafa. But meanwhile there's a party to plan to try and cheer old Jorge up. And all the Auto Siglo staff will be invited. The more the merrier. Dandy's delighted to hear about the hacienda party plans because he figures it's a perfect time for a barbecue and an opportunity to put Susana's love to the test.

The first chunk of the episode ends with Rafa more or less groveling on the phone to Marco, begging him to please meet with him tonight, not matter how late, so he can get his little mamita out of jail. Marco hangs up, chortling over how he's humiliated Rafa. Chavez worries about the final outcome but Marco's dismisses his trepidation. Just go with the flow, buddy. Enjoy the naquito medio pelado twisting in the wind.

After the ads, we see the New Jaime, who's still as much of a klutz as the old Jaime, back in Leonor's kitchen looking for some food to bring her. He spills milk all over his pants and the floor and has to go change his clothes, but not before bumping into a wall. Seems his new contact lenses aren't as helpful as they should be. But he looks better, goshdarnit, and Julieta seems as charmed as ever with his clumsiness.

Doña Arcadia is equally amused by Daniel's attempts to pull the wool over her eyes. He stoutly maintains he's only there to apologize the Alejandra for his boorish behavior the other day. But the old profesora knows his real plan is to seduce the lady. However that's Ale's business. Arcadia is only responsible for protecting her little perritos so bring on the chicken nuggets and let's keep their cholesterol down. Chatoooooo does just that, clad in a little white chef's coat for the occasion.

Now the scene moves to the bar where Rafa, still grinding his teeth, confronts Marco. No he doesn't want a drink, just tell him what he has to do to get his mom out of jail. Simple. Just stay away from my wife. Rafa makes a huge squinchy face and we go to ads again.

When we come back, Rafa is about to explode and start pounding on Marco. But no, no violence yet. Just think about the deal. Either you leave my wife alone or your mom rots in prison. That's the deal.

While Marco is tormenting Rafa, Daniel is doing his best to seduce Alejandra. The hacienda is his trump card. Citing his business contacts, he lets her know the hacienda has been sold but he can get it back for her. But this isn't the right place to talk about it. Let's go to a nice restaurant, have a relaxing drink and some dinner and I'll explain the whole deal.

That negotiation seems to be going nicely. Marco and Rafa, not so much. Rafa's squinchy face has escalated to snorting, snarling, fuming, fulminating and finally punching Marco out. Which pretty much ends the discussion. From his position on the floor Marcos snarls that Rafa's mom is stuck in jail for sure! Marco creeps out and we see Rafa throwing chairs around, kicking tables and making some more squinchy faces. Not his finest moment.

From there the scene shifts to Daniel and Ale at the restaurant. He wants to pull out her chair. She just wants him to leave her alone. And she wonders how he plans to buy the hacienda...like a box of candy? That simple? Indeed. For a man of his wealth and contacts, it is, in fact simple. But of course there's a catch.

Before we get to find out (as if we don't know) we get a little dream action from Jorge. It's 1985, he's got more hair but no more memory, and is thinking of buying a horse for his little Ale's birthday. Alas, her birthday was weeks ago, he can't quite remember her name, nor the name of the horse, nor how much he should be paying for it, and well, this is no dream, more like a nightmare.

And speaking of nightmares, yes, we're back with Rafa, huffing and puffing. The sympathetic bartender offers him a free drink (cortesia de la casa) but he wants nothing. Only to talk to Alejandra. But when he calls Susana, she gives him the news that his love is out for dinner with Daniel Cepeda. Not good news!

And now the kicker. What is Daniel's plan? Well, he'll buy the hacienda and give it to Alejandra. And in exchange, she'll be HIS. And on that ugly note, we end.

Previews:
A jumble of scenes. Daniel's after Ale. Vicky's after Rafa. Some weird scene with people dancing around in costume. Don't ask me what that's about. Just tune in tomorrow.

Vocabulary:
jugada de jacque = chess game
quedar bien con alguien = to get in good with someone (Shrimp man wanting to get in good with Rosaur by planning a hacienda party)
una fianza = bail, needed for Leonor
salir con la suya = to get one's way (Marco, the bum)
el mismo torpe que siempre = the same klutz as ever (Julieta musing about Jaime)
propasar = to get out of line, to get fresh (Alejandra worrying about Daniel)
jugando el todo por el todo = Marian, ready to put her cards on the table and play it all to win Rafa
provienes de una excelenta cuna = you come from a very good family (Daniel to Ale)

Dicho of the Day
Aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda.
English equivalent: You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.
Could apply to Rafa. Although he's come up in the world, he still resorts to violence rather than words, when it comes to solving a problem.
Or it applies to Marco, who appears to be a gentleman but in fact is a lowlife. Ditto for Daniel.

Hey Judy. Nicely done!! Lot's of deals indeed. Loved your Marino description of his sales endevor. As much as I don't enjoy his character that much it was fun.

I am with you, don't understand the attraction to niether Marino nor Rameriz. Milagros was funny though and a tough cookie.

Rafa, Rafa, Rafa!! That temper isn't going to help your mama. Although I will admit I am glad he decked Marco.

So we have all these dealings going on plus it looks like another fiesta coming up soon. And how many episodes left? About 20 or so? Well lets hope if nothing else Lenora is out of jail before this all raps up. Sure don't like that one bit.

Again thank you for the fun recap, like you said there were some funny moments and sadly lots of misery and manipulation as well.

Are you watching Christina? Itati
is on there now.

Judy- I loved it. You gave us all the good parts up front, and then got down to business. Looks like we'll have another deal tomorrow too. In the previews Vicky offers to appeal to Marco to release Leonor, IF Rafa agrees to be her novio again! So much emotional blackmail going on. I loved Milagros putting the squeeze on Ramirez.

I recorded Cristina but haven't watched it yet Pata.

Great recap Judy! I'm glad there were a few fun moments. The sword slicing Marino's suit was very random and funny. And although it won't help matters much, I agree with Pata that it was nice to see Rafa punch Marco! Your description of Rafa's facial expressions was perfect. He was so mad...not that anybody can blame him. I'd really like to see Daniel get slapped again. Come on Ale, don't let me down tomorrow!

Cristina Show with Itati Cantoral (Part 1):
Itati came out looking very relaxed and casual in a loose comfy dress and her signature high heels. Cristina mentions how many times Itati has been on (10 times or so) and Itati jokes about appearing on the show in her mom’s belly. They get to talking about her kids. She has 10 year old twin boys Eduardo and Roberto, and a two year old girl named Itati (same name as Itati’s mom as well). Right before Itati the 3rd was born, Itati Jr. was offered the part in a musical play. Itati 3rd was born in October and she starting working in January. Between the breastfeeding and the dancing she dropped the baby weight quickly. She spoke about the pain and joy of having her daughter naturally. In Mexico they automatically give C-sections for twins, so she did not get to experience that with her sons.

She and Victor Noriega (Marco) are old friends and have a lot of fun together. There were rumors that she and Pedro Fernandez (Rafa) did not get along, but this is not true. She describes Pedro as being very hard working and focused. He was all about the work and had to be, as he was filming the show 3-4 days a week and then the rest of the week he was travelling doing his singing engagements. Plus he’s a devoted and loyal father and husband. Another reason she gave for him keeping his distance is his respect for his wife. Because Dinero was such a hit, and people loved the Ale/Rafa couple so much, the press likes to start rumors of romance in real life. Seems that Pedro avoids doing anything that could be mistaken as real life romance with a co-star.

Cristina Part 2:
When they filmed the Amarte a la Antigua love song scene on the beach that everyone loves so much, it was a bit of a nightmare. It rained each evening they tried to film. Because they wanted her hair to be half wild for the scene, the rain and wind actually made it too wild and tangled and hard to handle. But the result was a beautiful scene they were proud of.

Her second husband (the father of Itati the 3rd) Loves her sons like his own. She doesn’t want anymore kids, as she feels that she would need to stop working completely to give them the time they needed if she had more. Her husband knew she was pregnant way before she did. She realized at two months in. He also was sure they would have a girl. Then her sons divined she was pregnant and were super excited and broke the news to her mother (their grandmother) Itati Senior, before Itati Jr. could.

Cristina showed a clip from the recent show of famous fathers she did (it’s the one that featured Jaime and his two boys) where Itati’s ex husband, his wife and their baby girl were featured. They said nice things about Itati and the relationship they all have. Itati agrees and calls them “la familia de la nueva era” (family of the new era). She says both she and her ex were lucky to find good new partners. She calls her ex’s wife an excellent woman. The boys love both of their little sisters and these new babies have united the families and made them whole. She wants the two baby girls (Julia and Itati the 3rd) to know each other, as they are related through their brothers. Her two boys are great students (one is really interested in animals and the other wants to be an actor). Their bohemian upbringing—public parents, divorce, living and moving to lots of places (Mexico, Brazil, the States)—has not harmed them, and she would never let them use those things as an excuse to blame any of their life setbacks on. They have to be masters of their own destinies.

They show a clip from her in the 2nd season of Mujeres Asesinas (Sandra Trapadora). Then they show a clip for many years ago with her mom, famous actress Itati, speaking about Itati Jr. We see a very your Itati briefly as well. We then see her mom in the audience. All crazy makeup and crazy red hair. She looks the picture of an aging dramatic actress. Itati speaks of her love for her mom and how much more she understands her now that she’s a mom. After another commercial break we see a clip of Itati from a few years ago shimmying and dancing in a belly baring show girl outfit. She’s a very impressive dancer and could give Shakira a run for her money with her gyrating. Itati is greatly amused by the clip. Cristina mentions that Itati starred in Aventurera, a Mexican musical.

Cristina Part 3:
Itati speaks about a supplement line she is launching based on the color red and its powerful properties. Her husband is also writing the script for a movie about the afterlife that they hope to begin filming soon. Itati is very spiritual as well as Catholic. She believes there is something much greater beyond this life and everything on this earth is connected. Cristina shows a clip from 13 years ago with a young Itati defiantly challenging anyone to call her a prostitute to her face because she works hard as an actress. Her job has nothing to do with her values, her love life, and the way she lives her life. Looks like she’s always been outspoken that Itati!

Cristina asks her which of her leading men was the most sexy- Fernando Colugna, Francisco Gattorno, her ex husband, or Pedro Fernandez? She says she can’t choose (smart woman). They all have their “cositas”.

Cristina ends the show thanking Itati and speaking about what a genuine person she is. As the credits roll, Itati gives her a big hug and crouches in front of her like an old friend as they continue to talk and Cristina holds her hands.

End of Show

Judy, thanks for such a quick and amazing recap. Lots of these deals need some major fixing!

The most pressing is to get Leonor out of jail. Rafa needs more than a huge squinchy face (loved that!) and a few thrown chairs to figure this out.

Is Daniel for real? If the writers have Ale even seriously thinking about his proposal, I will fall over in disgust.

Milagros has a little more iron than I expected. Perhaps we don't need to speculate on her dental woes because there will be no makeover. She may feel things are just as intended, thank you very much!

The scene with Daniel falling from Claudia's bust to Trapito's butt was good for a laugh.

I meant to comment that Dan's eyes (not Dan himself) which fell from bust to butt was funny.

And lastly, I wanted to thank Vivi for the rundown on the Cristina show with Itati. I saw part of it and found it difficult to follow. So, I appreciate the info. Extra credit points to you!

What a treat to get up this morning and find not only comments but a wonderful recap of the Cristina show. Thanks Miss Vivi.

I was so bummed by the episode last night (as much by Leonor's distress as Marco's cruel taunting of Rafa)that I didn't even want to write the recap. But then I made myself write about the funny parts first and that got me out of my funk.

@Pata... I think Milagros is a great addition to the cast even though it's a side story. In many ways, she's a far tougher opponent than the hysterical Vicky. She may land old gasbag Ramirez before she's through. (Be carful what you wish for.)

@Tracie...yeah, the random sword slice was a new one for me. Nice to see Marino sweat a little. I also thought the hormonal secretary played her part well.

@Barbara...you make a good point about Milagros. Would she consider changing something that God had ordained...like her amazing overbite? Theoretically no. We shall see.

@Vivi...fabulous resumé of the Cristina show. I watched part of it (hearing about how horrendous the filming of the beach kiss was and how swollen Itati's feet were after 3 days of filming kind of took the joy out of that memory though).

Like Itati's definition of the new family. My sister goes shopping with her ex-husband's third wife,(second wife is long-gone) they all have holiday dinners together and everyone makes it work because of the three children and five grandchildren involved. Amazing.

I think you ladies just might be right about Milagros not changing. She's for sure got a strong will to match Vicky's. And Vicky sees no reason to change herself. NO SEÑOR!

Like Rafa not accepting Marco's proposal, I don't think Ale will accept Dan's indecent proposal. But it will cause her anguish like Rafa is experiencing. And I totally excuse Rafa for decking Marco. I don't think I would have held out so long. All that smirking and smarming while my sweet mama languishes in jail. He deserved it. There has to be another way to free Leonor. If only Franky would make an appearance.

It was easy to do the Cristina recap. I figured I might as well do a quick one since I am abandoning you all later this week and leaving you with no recap the next two Thursdays. One of the most interesting things I learned from the interview was Pedro's crazy work and travel schedule while he was filming this. I would never have guessed because he's in so many scenes. More than any other actor in this. In Corazon Salvage, for example, it was obvious to me that they were working around Arcely's crazy travel schedule to be with her kids. There were some episodes when we only saw one minute of the main couple and all the rest was the side characters. It must mean that Pedro just barreled through his scenes with as few takes as possible. It's impressive.

Vivi, thanks for the Cristina recap! :)

Good morning, Judy,

I liked your intro. It was indeed hard to watch some of this stuff. We know that they have to break everything into " pedazos" before they can bring everyone back together happily.-- We know it but we can still hate it.

I too was glad that Rafa decked Marco -- if only so that it took away the offer (Ale in exchange for Mama) for now.

I really like this new Milagros. I think that Ramirez may discover quite a "miraculous" passion under all that clothing.

Thanks for making the best of this mishmash. Your recaps are always wonderful.

Güera

Excellent, Judy. I know this was a tough episode for you to watch, much less recap, too. You didn't seem to even flinch... well maybe just a bit.

Poor Leonor was pretty much abandoned in jail. I wonder if she'll meet some interesting people while she's there.

I'm really looking forward to Marco getting his. Just wait till he finds out that Chavez, Quintana, Mr Shrimp and Daniel are screwing him, not to mention that Daniel in moving in on Ale. Should be fun.

The scenes with Marino were fun. It looks like he is going to be on Don Francisco tomorrow, by the way.

I'm starting to have my doubts about the new improved Jaime.

"Aunque la mona se vista de seda, mona se queda."

Certainly applies to our lawyerito.

Carlos

@Carlos...perfect. I didn't include Jaime in that dicho but I should have. Perfect for his klutzy behavior last night.

Güera...I'm with you. I suspect the "milagro" of Milagros is that there's a volcano of God-ordained lust under that dowdy exterior. Ramirez may have more than he can handle. But maybe it will tire him out enough that he'll shut up for a change.

YES, REMEMBER DINERO WATCHERS AND COMMENTERS. WE HAVE NO RECAPPER FOR THURSDAY THIS WEEK OR NEXT, DUE TO VIV'S TRAVEL SCHEDULE.

IF NO ONE VOLUNTEERS, I WILL PUT UP A HEADING FOR A DISCUSSION AND WE'LL ALL JUST JUMP IN AND ADD OUR TWO CENTS WORTH. BUT IT WILL ONLY WORK IF YOU ALL WILL COMMENT. "VOTE EARLY AND OFTEN"...OKAY?

Thanks for another fine recap, Judy. You were smart to do the funny scenes first, to get you rolling.

In a way, Daniel's proposal to Ale is not too different from Vicky's to Rafa. Rafa agreed to a loan from Vicky's father (money), in return for marrying Vicky (sex). So if Ale agrees to the hacienda from Daniel (money) in return for being his (sex), it would be the same. Somehow it seems more sordid, though, and I hope (and believe) she won't agree to it.

Even if Milagros never has any dental work, I'm looking forward to her showing up in some more modern clothes. She would probably look very pretty in a better outfit.

@Hombre...good analysis of the deals. Absolutely, when Daniel's doing the deal, it seems much more sleazy and repugnant.

Milagros is the most interesting thing going on at this point...for me anyway. Loosen up that hair and those clothes and who knows what could happen? Watch out, Pompous Prof.

Where's Kat in Alabama by the way? We haven't heard from her in ages. Vacation?

Excellent recap for such a sad episode. It sort of reminds me of the time I recapped Ale's wedding. Only that time Rafa and Ale hadn't been so cozy just a few episodes back.
My guess is that Ale will probably take Daniel's proposal seriously the more she sees her dad suffer because of the Hacienda.
I loved the part where Marco got decked and stormed off. I suspect that Rafa will probably leave Ale in an attempt to get Leonor out of jail anyway.
I've been saying it all along, Jaime needs to get his lawyer degree. It seems like hes always going to school so I think hes just a little scared to go for it and take the test.
Signing off... Private 057

Hombre, I agree the deals are similar. Rafael's faults or missteps as I remember them off the top of my head are: his jealous and violent outbreaks, his extreme pressure on Dandy to visit Carmela and lastly, accepting a loan from Don Gastón when he had no desire to marry Vicky. One difference (though in today's sensibilities it's negligible) is that Rafa's deal was money for marriage (sex not specified, perhaps implied) much like a "dowry-on-loan" and Ale's deal really sounds like real estate (though a whole hacienda?--I wouldn't believe that!) for sex.
So one is a time honored tradition even still today in some cultures, the other is prostitution. I'm just sayin' - not agreeing.

Judy. I'm dealin' with the pain of so few happy moments last night. But, on the bright side, we're nearing the end of this tn so it can only get better. Thanks for your always terrific recaps.

GinCA

So, GinCa...you're dealin'...cute way to pick up on the title, amiga. Amen to the hopes that the sad times will end soon and we'll see at least ONE happy wedding ending.

@Private 057...yesssss, Jaime needs to pass the bar. Is the same in Mexico as it is here? He's got the duds, now he needs the degree.

@Barbara...nice refinement on Hombre's argument. And the arrangement does still exist. What puzzles me is in some countries, the family pays to marry off the daughter. In others, they get paid. Either way, the poor bride doesn't get much say in the matter.

Judy, a masterfully amusing recap as always. I love your philosophy "Let's just start with the raunchy humor and soft pedal the drama. We know the bad stuff won't last so why wallow in it now?" Indeed.
