La Verdad Oculta #043: Fire on the Road/Fire in the Bedroom

Alternate Title: Rest in Peace Don Mario

“WARNING! This episode contains scenes not suitable for those under 18.” I knew this episode would be eventful when this was the first thing I saw on my recording. Of course, despite this warning, and despite the fact it’s on after midnight, American censors decided our over 18 year old eyes could not handle the heat generated by Gabi and David on their wedding night. My advice…watch the complete YouTube version. I’m jumping ahead of myself, so let’s start from the beginning.

We get a replay of Mario saying farewell to Alejandra and Bertha. Ale runs upstairs trying to hide her tears. Outside, in front of the waiting car, Dora nervously hands Mario a letter she’s written. She asks him to read it later when he has time, but Mario prefers to read it now in front of her. He reads part of it and looks up at her in surprise. “But this is very important Dora! You’re David’s mother! Why didn’t you tell me all these years?” Dora tells him she was afraid. He touches her face gently. He wants to give the letter to Abelardo who will know what to do about it all until Mario returns. He sends the chauffer to get Abelardo and gets more details from Dora about how this all came about. She explains that at the time she had been abandoned by David’s father. She was young, alone and hungry. She had befriended a maid named Maria in Mario’s household, who told her that Don Mario and his wife were not able to have children. “I thought my son would be cared for, and I wasn’t wrong.” They look at each other tenderly.

When Abelardo arrives, Mario hands him the letter, asks him to read it, keep it in a safe place, and tells him he’ll know what to do. He tells Abelardo he’ll be in contact tomorrow and gives them both a fond pat farewell before entering the SUV. Abelardo holds Dora close as they watch the car pull off.

We next see Mario and the chauffer at a gas station, being stalked by Roberto in the trailer truck, Pink Panther disguise and cherry lollipop firmly in place. On the lonely road to Veracruz, outside of the city, Mario and the chauffer notice that a trailer truck is riding their tail. Mario tells the chauffer to slow down and let the truck pass, but they soon realize the driver has no desire to pass them. The truck starts to ram them repeatedly from behind, then pulls along side of them. We and Mario see Roberto with a gleeful, crazed look in his eyes. He is enjoying every minute of this. He starts to ram them from the side, pushing them closer and closer to the edge of the steep cliff. Finally he succeeds, and the SUV careens over the side of the highway, bouncing and rolling down the mountainside, until it lands in the ravine, crushed nearly beyond recognition. If we had any hope that Mario and the chauffer survived, all of our hopes are dashed when the SUV explodes into a fiery ball. We watch the fire in horror, and Roberto admires his handiwork from the side of the road.

Far away from all this ugliness, David and Gabi arrive at their oceanfront honeymoon suite. He carries her right through and past the living room, and straight to the bedroom. They are both looking lovely and ready for the tropics in their white linen pants and tops, but David seems eager to get those clothes off. Gabi admires the swan shaped towels, rose petals, and “feliz luna de miel” on the bed. David quickly deposits her right on top of all that foolishness and starts to get down to business.

We draw a veil on the two lovebirds for a while, and head back to Mexico City. Yolanda is still in her wedding duds, enjoying her favorite green drink and in deep thought on Adolfo’s couch. He comes down the stairs, having already changed into his “casual bad guy wear”, complete with black leather jacket. He’s none to happy to see her. “Todavia estas aquí?” (You still here?) He’s looking as nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof, and wants her to go. “Largate!” (Beat it!) She gets up to go, but complains that she doesn’t know why she puts up with him (te aguanto- from the verb aguantar). He knows it’s because it’s beneficial to her (te conviene). “True. But one of these days I’ll get tired of it.” She puts him on notice and smashes her glass to the floor on her way out. (Are we looking at Elsa and JJ in 30 years?)

Things are moving right along with Gabi and David in the honeymoon suite. Gabi has unpacked her special wedding night lingerie and wants to head to the bathroom to put it on. David seems perfectly content to continue, without the lingerie, but gives in when Gabi shows it to him. As soon as she enters the bathroom, he starts ripping off his clothes. Shoes, shirt, buttons flying off, and pants…In five seconds flat he’s down to his striped boxer briefs and “casually” reclining in bed under the covers. But wait! He forgot the champaign. He dashes to the minibar and grabs the champaign bucket and flutes, dashes back, and resumes his “relaxed” pose. Ooops! He forgot the music. He dashes to the living room, turns on the sensual sex music, oops, I meant sax music, and runs back into the bedroom, dives into the bed, and re-assumes the position. He grows impatient and calls out to Gabi. “Mi amor!”

His call is answered when we see Gabi’s head peek out from behind the corner. Then we see a tanned, shapely, high heel-shod leg, coyly teasing David. Finally, sweet innocent Gabi, wearing a not so innocent honeymoon outfit, emerges. She has transformed into Playmate of the Year, in a sexy white lacy teddy and white panty bottoms. Only the robe covering her teddy, and her shyness, hint at the demure Gabi we and David have known up till this point. David is blown away. He mutters “wow!” and quickly hops out of bed to greet her. He takes her all in and tells her how beautiful she looks. His obvious admiration chases all of Gabi’s anxieties away and she falls into his arms. They kiss, and then start to do what comes naturally…in the bed and in the jacuzzi tub. I won’t go into details, but I will say this: we get more than an eyeful of David’s and Gabi’s assets; Gabi may have gone into the honeymoon suite a virgin, but she’s a fast learner; and David came prepared with massage oils! Fill the rest in with your imaginations, and/or with your memories of the episode.

That’s the only happy part of this episode folks, so I hope you enjoyed it in all its NC-17 glory. Now on to the grim matters at hand. Roberto calls Adolfo in a post murder frenzy to let him know the job was done. Adolfo orders him to meet him in Roberto’s apartment.

At the Genovés house, Dora and Bertha are being awakened in the middle of the night by the ringing doorbell. It’s the police, and they inform the ladies that Mario’s car was in an accident on the highway to Veracruz, near Jalapa. Both passengers appeared to have died (falleceron). Ale comes downstairs in time to also hear the news. Bertha is shocked, and Ale and Dora hug each other in devastation.

At Roberto’s, Adolfo is grilling him about whether he is sure Mario is dead. Rob tells him he saw it with his own eyes, but looks like he’s sleepwalking. He has come down from his homicidal high, but Adolfo is just getting started. He laughs happily and tells his protégé to cheer up. There’s always a first time for everyone. [Well, actually this is Roberto’s second murder (that we know about), and just how many people HAS Adolfo killed? Yikes!] He tells Roberto that tomorrow he’ll be rich and he’ll feel better.

It’s the morning after, and David and Gabi are strolling along the beach smooching and flirting. David’s cell phone rings and he gets concerned immediately when he sees it’s home. Bertha immediately breaks the news that Mario “se murió”. She actually appears to be grieving, well at least she’s crying and wearing black. David is beyond belief impactado.

In JJ’s hotel suite, Elsa has gotten Caramelo ready for school and is coaxing her to drink her milk so that they can head off to school. Caramelo is stalling so that she can see JJ and Limon. Just then, JJ and Limon wander out of their rooms, drinking their hangover water. It’s obvious that Elsa had to spend the night, and she reproaches JJ for coming back so late. The lies about some business thing keeping them late begins, but Elsa isn’t interested in hearing it. Since he’s here and up, he can take Caramelo to school, as usual. Elsa will pick her up from school, as usual. Before he walks out the door with Caramelo, he tells Elsa that he wants her to stay, so that they can talk when he gets back. She reminds him that she has a job that she needs to get to. JJ seems surprised for some reason that she actually took that job with Medina. (Hasn’t he noticed her new look?) He looks put out at this news.

At the beach, Gabi is speaking on the phone with Juli. She tells her what happened with Mario and that she and David are returning immediately to the city. She tells Juli that David is destroyed by the news, and we see a devastated David in the background, rooted to the spot where he heard about his father's death. Gabi hangs up and hugs the weeping David.

At the Genovés house, Ale and Bertha talk about poor David. Bertha then decides it’s a good idea to call Adolfo and tell him the news, since he’s Mario’s business partner and all. He’s still in his jammies, and does a fair job at acting shocked at the news, all the while grinning. He uses every single expression of surprise in one sentence to show Bertha his devastation. “No! No me digas. Que barbaridad. Que horror. No lo puedo creer. Que desgracia. Lo siento mucho.” He tells Bertha that he’s there for her if she needs anything, anything at all. He’s on his way over to offer his support.

Dora brings in a tray to Ale and Bertha, crying the entire time. Ale thinks this is a nightmare. But Bertha is back to thinking about #1, herself. She tells Ale that if David tries to throw them out, she’ll throw the circumstances of his common birth into his face and use it as leverage. Ale stands up. She can’t believe what she’s hearing. She reminds Bertha that they promised their uncle that they would not reveal the secret of David’s origins, and they are going to follow through on his wishes. “Well, I think differently, as always.” (Yo pienso diferente, como siempre.) Bertha’s snotty reply is interrupted by Abelardo’s arrival. He has yet to hear the news, and backs away in disbelief when the girls tell him what happened. “No, no, no…”

At Medina’s office, Elsa is answering and transferring calls, and seems to have gotten the hang of the complicated phone and computer system. She has the perfect, pleasant secretarial voice. Medina walks in, observes her working and smiles. He asks how she’s doing and she smiles back and responds, using the formal address. He gives her another reminder to call him Mauricio, since he’s not just her boss, but also her friend. He then invites her to a meal after work. She declines, since she has to pick up Caramelo after work, but Mauricio has the perfect solution. His niece is staying with him while her parents travel through Europe for a few months. He invites Elsa to bring Caramelo over to his house. The two girls can play, while he and Elsa chat and hang out. After some hesitation, Elsa accepts the invitation for the following day. (Good girl.)

At the Guillen’s apartment, Abelardo has brought Faustiago the news. He can’t believe it. He admits that despite everything (their love and competition for the same woman), Mario was a good man. (A pesar de todo, era un buen hombre.) Abelardo talks about Mario’s frame of mind before he died. He was sad because he had to leave his children, but he was at peace. Faustiago asks if David and Gabi have been informed. “Yes. Poor kids. They’ve had to cut their honeymoon short. And the worst is that now they are going to lose everything (to Adolfo).” He wonders out loud to Faustiago whether it’s too late for them to do anything about it now. Faustiago gives him a sad, anxious look, but it’s obvious the wheels are turning in his head.

JJ and Mina are at his house, as construction and renovations goes on all around them. JJ asks where Ale is, and Mina breaks the news to him about Mario. He asks Mina for Ale’s home number and immediately calls her. Ale answers from Mario’s office. She starts to unburden her feelings to JJ, but then remembering that he is her uncle’s possible enemy, refuses his offer to accompany her.

At that moment, Mario’s worst enemy, Adolfo arrives. He is greeted with a hug by Bertha, while a disapproving Dora looks on. He spews a few more b.s. declarations of disbelief and condolence, but then starts asking about the whereabouts of the bodies. David will be taking care of all the arrangements (tramites) and he hasn’t arrived yet. He is now the head of the family. More b.s. from Adolfo. “Poor boy. Had I known Mario planned to travel on that dangerous road, I would have done something. So many years of friendship. Blah, blah, blah.” He asks Bertha how she’ll be taken care of. She tells him it’s up to David as the new head of the family. Adolfo assures her that David will take care of her, since she’s family. It’s his new wife that probably won’t like it. But she can count on him (Adolfo). She asks him flirtatiously if maybe he can offer her a job. Oh, no, no, no. She’s a woman with “class”, and working is not for her. (We need a wheel barrow and a shovel for all this bullshit Adolfo is dropping.) Bertha eats it up. She lowers her eyes in a faux display of demureness.

David and Gabi enter the room, still looking honeymoon glamorous, but with obviously heavy hearts. Bertha immediately clings to David. David asks for an update and takes on the task of going to claim the bodies. Adolfo offers his plane to take David to Jalapa, and David graciously agrees. Gabi wants to go with David, but he doesn’t want her to witness something so horrific. Bertha takes the opportunity to add her two cents by reprimanding Gabi for making things more difficult for David.

David kisses Gabi goodbye, and Bertha receives a kiss on the cheek from Adolfo. The two men leave and Bertha puts out her claws. She gives Gabi the death stare. When Gabi asks how the accident happened, Bertha starts yelling at her to not pretend like she felt anything for Mario. She knows she was just interested in Mario’s money, like she only married David for his money. “And what about Carlos Avila?” This question is so far out of left field that Gabi has no clue what she’s talking about. Bertha tells her that everyone knows what happened between her and Carlos in that solitary beach house. Gabi has had enough by this point. She tells Bertha that she doesn’t have a right to speak to her that way and she won’t permit it! And if Bertha continues, she will be telling David. Bertha then threatens back. If Gabi tells David, she’ll regret it (repentir). Gabi does not know what she’s capable of! They stare each other down and Gabi walks away just as Ale emerges from Mario’s office. She wants to know what Bertha did to upset Gabi so much. They promised their uncle they would treat her well. She wants to know why Bertha would go out of her way to upset her. “Because I hate her! Because I can’t stand her!” Her hissy fit shocks Ale.

JJ is telling Limon about Mario’s death and how sad Ale is. Limon notes that JJ’s feelings for Ale are deepening, but JJ doesn’t want to talk about those feeling or what they mean for his revenge plan. He shushes Limon. “Calladito, te ves más bonito.” (The quieter you are, the prettier you are.) He decides to head out to Ale’s house. If Elsa asks for him, make something up. He leaves, and Limon starts muttering to himself, not at all happy with being tasked to lie to Elsa and noticing JJ’s self centeredness. “Todo yo. Todo yo.” (It’s all about me.)

Mina is visiting Ale and they are sitting in Mario’s office (her favorite spot). Mina hopes it didn’t bug Ale that she gave JJ her number. Ale doesn’t know what to think. JJ is so mysterious. She tells Mina who JJ really is. Mina is surprised and wonders at the reason for this ruse. Ale thinks perhaps revenge. There’s also the mystery of his relationship with Elsa. She explains about going to his hotel suite and finding Elsa and the little girl. Mina wonders if they are married and the little girl is their child. Ale is just plain old confused. She doesn’t know what to think, how to react, what to do. Mina doesn’t want her to stress about it. It will all become clear sooner or later. Just then, the doorbell rings. Dora informs her it’s JJ at the door. Ale refuses to see him. Mina thinks she should straighten things out with him, but Ale cannot deal with it at the moment. Dora delivers the message that Ale is not feeling well to a waiting JJ. She can barely look him in the eyes as she does so. JJ begins to leave just as Abelardo is driving up, hesitates as if to say something, and then leaves.

Carlos is at the Club, just getting the news of Mario’s passing. Like father, like son. He is smiling ear to ear at the news that the old man (viejo) died. He is sure David must be destroyed and that this ruined his honeymoon (jerk!).

Dora informs Abelardo that David returned and is in Jalapa collecting the bodies. She’s worried about him, and slips, calling David HER little boy. Abelardo, who has by now read the letter, tells her she has nothing to be ashamed of. She laments that the house will not be the same without Mario. They both cry.

Roberto is at home on the couch, replaying the crime in his head. Happy Adolfo arrives. He’s brought Roberto a case full of money, 5 million pesos to be exact, for a job well done. Adolfo is sure this will perk Roberto right up.

Back at the house, Gabi is keeping Dora company in the kitchen. Dora wonders why she isn’t with Ale and Bertha in the living room (sala). Gabi confides in her that she feels more comfortable in the kitchen with Dora, and that she doesn’t think she’ll ever feel comfortable with that class of people. Dora assures her that David fell in love with her for a reason. Dora will be here for her to guide her and help her with anything she needs. Gabi thinks she will need Dora badly, and expresses her gratitude.

Ale comes into the kitchen wanting to know why Gabi won’t join her, her sister and Adolfo in the living room. Gabi tries to beg off, but when Ale insists she admits her dislike of Adolfo and that they don’t get along. She tells Ale that she doesn’t think Adolfo is such a nice person, despite how he’s helping since Mario’s death. She doesn’t think he’s being sincere. Gabi expresses her condolences to Ale and her sincere sadness at Mario’s passing, although Ale might not believe it. Ale does believe it. And she knows what a great affection Mario had for Gabi. Ale knows it won’t be easy for Gabi to live in this house, but assures her it is now HER house and David loves her tremendously. She wants them to be friends. Gabi agrees, and reluctantly leaves with her for the living room. Dora has been listening to this whole conversation in the background with a look of concern.

In the living room, Bertha is assuring Adolfo that David will get tired of Gabi soon. She’s a common, vulgar woman, who doesn’t know how to carry herself or speak properly. Adolfo is sure that Gabi is good at something—“servicing” David (ahem), since waitresses are so good at that. They chuckle at their vulgar little joke as Gabi and Ale enter the room. Adolfo immediately starts with the insults. He asks Gabi if she’s sad because her passport to Europe died. Gabi defiantly tells him she’s sad because DON MARIO passed away, because he was a good and generous man. But, she points out, it looks like his death hasn’t affected the two of them. She tells Adolfo that he’s only there because he’s a no good hypocrite, just like his son! As Bertha starts her rebuttal, we see a pair of feet of someone walking in, and the shoes look a lot like Mario’s.

“How dare you speak to him that way?!” Bertha is winding up to hurl some more insults Gabi’s way, when suddenly they all hear a familiar raspy voice say, “Buenas noches.” They are all beyond impactados to see Mario standing before them, no one more so than Adolfo. “No! No. No puede ser!”

LOL!
Vivi, I've just started to work on the screencaps and this was the first one I decided to keep.

That was a hot scenes indeed. Now we understand why is this gem called softporn. :) ;P

And goodbye, our beloved Mario. Although Fausto surely will do his best to play Mario, the show won't be the same without this golden hearted, caring, wise old man.

It's like an ailing grand uncle, you know he is going to die but when it happens you are still devastated. Rest in peace Don Mario. How do these actors play love scenes so realistically? The love scene was sizzling. Are they acting? Inquiring minds want to know. I am just curious as to how their partners handle it. Later.

Hanna

Thank you, Vivi. Love the title! What an amazing episode; wow. Amazing show.

Wedding night: I was just amazed at how huge....the bath tub was! LOL David was just hilarious running around and diving onto the bed.

Here are the You Tube links for #43:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Thanks Aribeth, Jeri, and Vivi for all you do. I can only keep up with all the details because of your efforts. And of course, you always keep me laughing.

I was hoping somehow Avila's plan would fail and we'd have Mario longer. So much rides on Alejandra's shoulders now. This in effect makes her the shadow leader of the Genoves family since she knows just about all Mario's secrets. She, Aberlado, and Fausto will make quite a trio carrying out Mario's plan. And she doesn't know if Juan's behind the "accident" or not. What tension.

When I saw the opening "warning," I thought at last they get around to consummating the marriage. I think it will pay off for David in the long run that he waited until after the religious ceremony cause his fake boda plan is probably going to surface one day.

If the police trace the car to Marcos, I hope Marcos doesn't somehow drag down Juan with him.

About who is David's mother, Dora never looks impactada around Avila so hopefully it's not him. About who's Carlos' mother, surely if Marta was Carlos' mother Avila would remember how she looked enough to see her in Gabriela. But I am in TN land...

Looking forward to the recap Vivi. I LOLed when Uni put the viewer warning before the episode began. We didn't even get the usual opening credits either.

I screamed, "No!" when Roberto rammed Mario's car over the railing and it tumbled down the cliffs of Veracruz and exploded. I didn't want Mario to die like that. He was definitely one of my fave characters. Then the devil in black himself Adolfo couldn't contain his glee at the news.

I think Roberto will be haunted by what he did but he still took the money.

That love scene although edited by Uni was smoking hot!!1 Yowza was all I can say.

I loved the end when Adolfo was getting a tongue lashing from Gabi when Fausto disguised as Mario showed up. All mouths literally dropped. Looking forward to Monday's show.

"How do these actors play love scenes so realistically? The love scene was sizzling. Are they acting? Inquiring minds want to know. I am just curious as to how their partners handle it." I have always wondered that myself Hanna. Especially when the scenes require nudity. I suppose if you are very professional you can do those scenes without getting caught up in it. Most love scenes are very technical and choreographed anyway. However, I always think that in order for the scenes to be realistic, there has to be an real attraction between the leads to make it believable. Sometimes it becomes too real. Think Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.

LOL! Love the title...sums it all up. LOL at the pic.

Okay, I'm pretty speechless after having watched the Link for Part 2. The tv version was pretty tame since we had 3 rapid snippets in the hot tub of the unhottest scenes. Praise be to You Tube for the uncensored version. Really Uni, it's on at midnight so why not reward us for watching in the wee hours. Jeri, David was adorable scurrying around and jumping back into bed several times getting things just right for his bride.

I was speechless (actually saying "oh, no") when Roberto knocked the truck carrying Mario and the driver down the ravine and it rolled over and over and finally burst into flames. I felt so attached to dear Mario. And the look of maniacal excitement and satisfaction on Roberto's face while he was doing this was chilling. Even if he had some remorse or let down later, he deserves to fry himself.

Bertha has to be the most horrible person so she's a perfect match for Adolfo...2 huge anvils, please.

Redundantly for the millionth time and for Uni's ears, I love this is exceptional telenovela. And I would like to see more of its kind at 9 p m since all the racy parts are cut out anyway.

Looking forward to your recap Vivi.

GinCA

Vivi in DC - Now we know why this was shown late at night, based on comments re: hot scenes? I really (really!) wish I had stuck with this telenovela. I can't carry too many 'novelas and chose STuD over this. What a mistake. Rats.

Thanks Jeri, Aribeth and Vivi for
everything. Can't wait for your recap, Vivi.

I'm especially grateful because my Telly blacked out mid episode. Right after the love scene!!! Did they cut some of the scene out, because I don't recall such a long scene in the tub as they showed on Youtube??? And so much nudity!!!

Poor Mario; he was such a nice man.

Ann-NYC

Jeri, this novela is mentally challenging NOT mentally challenged like STuD (aka DuD in my book.) However, I still watch as long as I can tolerate it. On Fri., when Val stormed over to see Rosey by herself against everyone's warning, I thought you deserve everything you get from Rosendo, you idiotic heroine (a nice term, not what I was thinking.) Sheesh.

GinCA

Ooops, I meant Doris not Jeri. I really wanted to thank Jeri for the invaluable links.

GinCA

GinCa, thank you for the extra-scenes tip in the You Tube version!

Friday is usually the only night I actually get to watch the show on television, so I missed them.

I will be sure to check; thanks again. I'll continue to post the links as long as I can find them.

As Aribeth said, EY's fans all around the world make sure that all his work is available. Many thanks to them!!

P.S. Just to reiterate this valuable info, GinCA points out that the extra love-scene footage is in:

Part 2

Thanks, Viv, Aribeth, and Jeri. It was a busy week and weekend , so I appreciate all your efforts which are allowing me to catch up on the action. This novela seems to be moving along.

So I looked at the unedited version of the love scene and all I can say is DAYUM!!!!!!!

Vivi, Aribeth & Jeri, thank you for the weeks recaps. This is turning out to be quite a TN.

Roberto is an evil moron and that is not a good combination. I can hardly wait to see what happens when he finds out the new Mario is alive and well. Will he return the money? Will Adolfo be happy with him? The storyline should be fun to watch.

How are they going to prove who was in the SUV? A DNA test will not match David. Even if Bertha spills the beans, what good will it do except upset David. The new improved Mario is safe for a while, I hope.

Bertha is not going to be a happy camper with the current turn of events. Maybe she can move in with Adolfo, what an evil pair they make.

Limon was a hoot, the only comic relief we are getting. Does he wear that rug to bed?

Since David and Gabi were sizzling hot last night I cannot image how JJ and Alej can top that performance. No wonder this TN was too hot for prime time.

Thanks again recappers for sharing your time and talents.

Rosemary

Just watched the uncensored version of David and Gabi's love scene. I have a mad crush on EY. If JJ and Ale are this sensual when they get together, I may go into sensory overload. ;>

Hello everyone. This was indeed quite an episode. I can't believe that Mario is gone. So sad! And David and Gabi had so little happy time before that whole mess. I am sure they won't resume their honeymoon, even with the new Mario in place. I really felt bad for Gabi because I can already see how miserable Bertha is going to make her life in that house. No one wants to be constantly in a battle in their own home. At least Ale is making the effort.

That was quite the love scene! Yowza! :)

JJ continues to behave badly towards Elsa. And his stupid lies and revenge plot are already driving a wedge between him and Ale and he doesn't even realize it.

Medina is making progress with Elsa. How wonderful that he has a neice he is caring for. Perfecto.

Vivi, Vivi--Keep all of it coming our way. Hot and sizzling. I'm saving the Link till later.

Was it only me or did anyone else wonder if Galilea Montijo actually did ALL the lovin' scenes on their wedding night? A couple of times, I thought she didn't look like herself, her hair was too curly and she seemed to have darker skin. But that may just have been the lighting. If someone would "enlighten" me, I would be able to watch the whole thing without being so critical. Gabriel Soto was well lit, in more ways than one the whole time. No doubt in my mind who the new hubby was.

Roberto looked utterly demonic as he pushed the SUV over the edge. Will Marco notice any paint scrapes on the side, or is that not important.

I think the car had to explode and burn so identification is more difficult. My guess is that if they do a DNA test and it shows that neither occupant is related to David--all the better for our new and improved (healthier) version of Mario (can we start calling him Mario version 2.0, or is he now going to be Faustiagrio)proving that he is indeed alive.

Want to bet he says he decided not to go at the last minute...on the other hand, who will he and Abelardo say was the second occupant, besides the chofer.

Roberto will no doubt start having nightmares similar to Ivana's Oscar, if Adolfo lets him live long enough.

Bertha--one word to describe her: Hellcat. If we need more, it's hellcat in high heels.

I loved the scene with Gabriela in the kitchen with Dora. Dora, too needed somebody to share her grief with.

No wonder Ale didn't want to see JJ, even though her face showed her disappointment after she hung up. I didn't realize she'd made the connection between JO, JJV and the venganza. She may indeed think she is being used. I hope they clear that up pretty quick. On the other hand, JJ did look like a mafioso with his black shirt and black tie--a goregeous one, but nevertheless, advertising underhanded activities.

Yaay! We get to see more of Medina. Vivi--without going back to the tape, didn't Elsa beg off for today, but agreed to come tomorrow with Carmelo to play with Mauricio's sobrina after school. Convenient house guest, no? It keeps it all on the up and up in Elsa's eyes.

Thanks again to Jeri, Aribeth and Vivi for delighting us with a well-written TN for a change.
Newbie-one-Kanobe

Newbie- Glad you appreciated the recap. Yes, Mario told Ale about JJ. He recognized him from the dinner (although he didn't let on. He told Ale JJ's story, that he might have come for venganza, but to stay close to him and help him clear his name. So she for sure has mixed feelings. I will go back and clarify that Elsa accepted the invitation for the next day. You're right, but I was in a hurry when I wrote it. :)

Oh, and that was for sure Galilea. Both she and David looked more tanned in the last few episodes, which made me wonder if they hadn't filmed the honeymoon beach scenes prior to the other scenes, leaving both of them quite berry brown. Being that she's not even a regular actress, but a tv host, I was even more surprised by how "dedicated" she was to making that love scene look realistic.

Newbie, from Ep. 40:

"...Emerging into the tunnel house, Alejandra insists they must replace the louvers and set an alarm against another break in. Mario amazes her with the studio; but as they sit, most surprising is Mario's contention of who and what Juan José really is. She is horrified and incredulous to hear Mario painfully tell the frame-up murder story and his unwitting part in it.

When Alejandra shoots to her feet, begging to know what harm she herself did to make Juan José want to use her like that, Mario guesses it's to approach himself and Adolfo. Mario can see Juan José likes Alejandra and hopes she can uncover his intentions -- and help him prove his innocence. Weeping bitterly, Mario begs her to convey how deeply sorry he is; and to keep up a friendship with Gabriela..."

Oh, Vivi, what a very descriptive and humorous recap of a riveting episode. Your recaps are as smooth as butter...just wonderful. Your details beautifully describe what occurred on screen.. And, of course, thanks to all our our very talented recappers.

I missed the warning because I turned the tv on a little too late, but really, what later occurred was barely NC-17 (LOL.) But if I had known the warning had been on, I would have been wondering what? What naughty stuff? Hot but they must have cut a lot of good stuff out. And thank you to the You Tube posters and Jeri, also, so we could see the really hot stuff as intended.

We were put through the wringer with this dramatic episode and they left us impactados with the appearance of Mario 2.0. So it was a more hopeful ending than I expected, though poor Mario is gone, And I loved seeing Adolfo's total disbelief on seeing Mario and thinking what the ****. Robert better take that money and run fast.

Can't wait to see how Mario 2.0 convinces everyone he wasn't in the SUV and if he can pull off being Mario without arousing suspicions. And Bertha needs a big hard slap and it better be soon.

Jeri--
Oooops, re episode 40. My head must have been completely fogged by the steam rising from the hot tub scene and I couldn't remember a thing before it. It makes perfect sense for Ale to react the way she did. Thanks.

Well, I finally had a LVO marathon tonight and fastforwarded through 5 episodes. Caray, caray, one word comes to mind...SHOULDERS. BIG Ed looks so good in his expensive , new suits. The last outfit [ black, jacket, shirt, and tie] was very sexy. I'd really like to see him end up with Elsa, but it looks like Ale will be his onetruelove and Elsa will get Medina as a consolation prize...not a bad departing gift.

My goodness!!!what a recap and what an episode.Vivi, like my youngest daughter would say "you rock, you are the new ninja". Reading your recap was like watching the show all over again. Pirate babe,I would like to be an observer at that school where all these very technical and choreographed scenes are studied. Those two got all A's am sure. The parallels in the show are just so refreshing.Extreme happiness and extreme pain.David was so broken-up. Everyone in Don Mario's household was truly affected by his death.I am not so sure about Bertha.I believe she is mad about the lifestyle change his death is going to cause her.She didn't care about the old guy.Why else would she latch on to Adolfo? The man is barely cold in his grave and she is already breaking her promise to him. The ingrate couldn't wait to mess up David's honeymoon. She could have waited until the bodies were at least identified. The look on all their faces when Mario 2.0[I like that term] show up was worth the price of admission.
So my dynamic trio[Vivi,Jeri and Aribeth] thank you once again for all you do.

Vivi, this was a tough episode with the very low of Mario's murder and the very high of the David-Gabi get-together. You took great care in your recap to prepare the reader for the drastic changes in mood and tone.

Question: When the policeman came
to the door, he read off some
numbers which I first thought was the license plate; Dora nodded in
agreement. However, the bodies are
unrecognizable and the car was only
identified by the serial number on
the motor. What were the numbers
the policeman read?

I still don't understand why Mario
did not tell Ale about Carlos at
the hotel, and he also knew that
Roberto was there that day because
that came up earlier. I guess this
is for dramatic irony where we know
more than some of the characters.

Also, does Adolfo think that JJ was
guilty of the murder; he doesn't
know about the involvement of
Carlos & Roberto.

One more thing, Dora was acting weird about JJ, but has anyone noticed she did the same for Adolfo? To my knowledge, no.
She would have recognized him if he were David's father, wouldnt she
she and try to avoid him?

How do you find the Youtube love scene? I looked on Google to no avail.

Anon, Jeri makes it so easy you won't believe it. The parts are numbered and highlighted in blue in Jeri's comments here on the page you are reading now. Just click or double click on Part 2 if you want to see the David and Gabi hot tub scene. When you click you are automatically linked to the You Tube site and You Tube videos for LVO capitulo 43.. If you want to see the entire episode (and without annoying commercials) just click on Part 1 and then continue with Jeri's links.

Florida-

The only thing I can think of as to why Mario didn't tell Ale who saw the incident (Dora) and who she said did it (Carlos), is because he doesn't like throwing around accusations if he isn't 100% sure, and dragging others into his guilt. Did he tell Ale that he suspects Adolfo killed the woman (Marta) 20 years ago? It doesn't seem like he did. He just seems to have told her that Adolfo took advantage of the situation to blackmail him all these years. And I agree. This is plot device. Like all mysteries, sometimes the audience actually knows more than some of the characters, which makes us feel more drawn in as we root for characters to learn the truth. The one character who new most of the truth about everything is now dead, so everyone else is just trying to catch up.

As for Dora and Adolfo- I have never seen her act wierd around him like she acts around JJ. She always acts like she dislikes him and she knows whenever he comes over Don Mario is left in a bad state, so that's understandable. She doesn't try to hide in the shdows like she does with JJ. Sorry, I just don't believe he's her long lost love that abandoned her with child.

Also, Dora did not tell Mario that she saw Roberto. From her angle she could see that the maid was thrown over the balcony, but the boy's faces were not to her, until Carlos turned around, so that's the only person she mentioned by name.

Now, there has been some speculation as to whether she knew the other boy was Roberto because she has acted strangely around Roberto before. I think that's a question mark at the moment. Mario only got pissed at Roberto and banned him from his home after he saw how he was trying to influence David to do something underhanded (the false wedding).

Another Anon, thanks so much for your abundantly helpful answer! :D

Dora doesn't react to Adolfo after eleven years of him coming over to the house and not recognizing her. As business partners and blackmailer, he would have visited.

Adolfo doesn't recognize Gabriela as Márta's nearly-identical daughter -- and he murdered Márta!

(Mario thought so; remember the trefoil cufflink from Márta's dead hand.)

Mario had that conversation several times with a couple people -- including the big fruitless showdown with Adolfo he recorded.

It doesn't surprise me Adolfo doesn't recognize Dora. He discarded her without a thought and never looked back, IMO.

Jeri- Back to the episdoe that I missed while away. Did Mario tell Ale specifically that he thought Adolfo killed Marta? I wished he had told her that Gabi is his daughter.

I'm still not feeling the Dora/Adolfo thing, but I'll keep an open mind.

Florida- The serial number on the motor lead the police to get the plate number for the car. Those were the numbers he read off when he came to the door- la placa (the plate) number.

From what I remember, Mario did not fill Alejandra in on too many details in their tunnel-studio talk. He brought neither Dora's nor Adolfo's part into it.

He was mainly upset about dying without being able to make amends to Juan José -- and he wanted Alejandra to assure him she would try to help Juan José.

A while back I explained my reasoning about why Adolfo should be David's dad: David is the main protagonist, and Adolfo as the main antagonist is the only character of enough stature to be his father -- given that Dora was impregnated by a villainous person.

Thank you Aribeth, Jeri and Vivi for the marvelous recaps the past few days. The summaries were vivid and detail laden - thank you to the entire LVO team for continuing to bring the episodes to light for us every day!

I am so sad that Mario is gone. He made mistakes but championed love and truth. He is the real galan here and will be truly missed. How sad he had to meet such a terrible end.

Poor David and Gabi had 1 night of an idyllic honeymoon. While their grief over Mario will now turn to joy at his "return", I can't fathom how he will explain how he survived the accident.

Was I the only one who saw the parallels between the Adolfo/Yolanda/Felix/Carlos household, and the JJ/Elsa/Limon/Caramelo household? They're like a funhouse/alternate universe version of each other. The biggest difference being that Adolfo is an evil/thieving/murderer and treats Carlos like crap, and Yolanda made the choice to be “kept” by Adolfo instead of making her own way; while JJ is a good person who loves Caramelo, and Elsa refuses to be “kept” by JJ and instead take care of herself financially.

Vivi, like the Bizarro alternate characters from the Seinfeld episode, lol. Good observation.

Margaret

Lol! Exactly Margaret.

Vivi: Thank you once again for another fantastic recap! And that pic had me laughing out loud, especially after finding out that Univision had cut the scenes anyway.

I have to ask: is the strong censoring an Univision thing or does it happen with other networks too? For us here south of the border the censoring depends alot on the channel and their primary audience but after 9 pm the programming is almost always meant to be for adults.

LVO had some strong scenes that made people comment on it but nothing will ever get the reaction Alondra had back in the 90's. A leading lady having an affair with a married man (whose wife is a good and loving person) trumps strong sex scenes anytime.

About the episode: I was sad to see Mario die in such a horrible way. I'm also quite sad that his loved ones are now kept in the dark about his fate and won't be able to mourn him as he deserves.

I am glad, however, that Adolfo believes Mario is still alive now and Roberto will now end up looking like an idiot and a useless liar to his eyes.

Medina is so much better for Elsa than JJ. I like the way he treats her.

Jarocha

Thanks Vivi for your great recap.

What an episode. I didn't want Mario to die so soon. I was really hoping he would find some miracle therapy/cure.

I felt really sad for Abelardo. H is really going to miss his employer/friend. I was crying right along with him in his grief.

Adolfo is a true evil villian. He must have peeled some onions before he walked into the Genoves house so that he could produce some crocodile tears.

Roberto really scared me in this episode, cackling like some evil witch and sucking on his lollipop to get up the courage to run Mario's car off the road.

It was a beaufiful moment when JJ rang Ale to comfort her. It seemed like he had genuine concern for her. He doesn't know of course that Ale knows all about him from Mario.

Why is JJ still lying to Elsa about where ge goes, even Limon doesn't agree with him about that. I had a real laugh at Limon with his hangover. It does seem like he sleeps with his hair piece, lol.

I agree with everyone, one of the best 'first night' scenes I have seen. David just wanting to get down to business and Gabi wanting to wear something 'more comfortable' for him. The massage oil, the big 'bath tub', the beautiful lighting, the background music. All beautifully done and so sensuous. It was so funny and so romantic when David was running around the room trying to set the scene for a night of loving. Well done.

Margaret

Jarocha- Thanks for dropping in.

About the censoring, if a show is on basic stations (ABC, NBC, CBS, Fox) or basic cable, the U.S. strongly censors sex, nudity and language. Some basic cable networks (like AMC and FX) have pushed the envelope lately with some of their original shows that are rivaling the shows on premium cable (HBO, Showtime, etc.) with the language and risqué situations. But they can't push the envelope too much or the FCC can come down on them with huge fines. It's a fine line. But all the networks can go as far as they want with violence. There is a much higher threshold for watching someone get their brains blown out, than seeing someone's naked bum. I think it’s ridiculous.

I also think it’s sad that Mario won’t get mourned and “sent off” properly by his loved ones. But I keep in mind that he wanted it this way, to protect them.

Alondra was something very different. I have always liked it a lot.

I didn't sympathize with Alondra's determined attraction to Bruno nor his to her. His wife was a beautiful person. And Carlos was to the side. So the romances were atypical. But well done just the same.

It was one of the great ones, IMO; and I will certainly watch it again. I've already done so twice. Many good characters and story lines.

O.T. -- here is the You Tube link for Ep. 1.1 of "Alondra" (which is de epoca, for historical fans).

Every time I see this entrada, I just want to watch the whole thing again.

Alondra 1.1

Vivi, I like your idea about the parallel households.

I was already curious about Alondra but now I want to watch it as soon as possible. :)

Hey, here's the casting of the new Nathalie Lartilleux circo, and look, who was there:

Vivi: Thanks for the info on censoring. I can't help but find odd that basic cable is almost as censored as broadcast tv. I've seen parts of Mad Men and The Walking Dead that air on AMC and thought a network like HBO or something simmilar but apparently it isn't. We get shows like Dexter, The Walking Dead, Sex and The City, Six Feet Under and The L Word on basic cable but Mad Men is shown on HBO. I don't know the criteria for how they choose which show should go on which channel.

Jeri I loved Alondra too, I was always on Carlos's side and I wanted Alondra to fall in love with him and forget Bruno but we wouldn't have had a novela if that had happened.

Aribeth: I will confess that I'm not a big fan of most of Carla Estrada's period novelas. I prefer stories where the leading lady is stronger and moves the story along and I feel that Amor Real/Alborada/Pasión lack that sort of "girl power" that I like. However, Alondra is always the main protagonist of her story and even if she makes the wrong choises at times and she's the one responsible for her difficulties most of the time, I can't help but feel for her and hope she finds happiness. Plus, Ana Colchero (Aimée in CS '93, Camila in Nada Personal) plays Alondra and Diana Bracho narrates the story and Ernesto Laguardia is so earnest and lovely as Carlos and there's that love story on the side between Verónica Merchant and Fernando Colunga :).

Jarocha

Ooh, it's a good thing Univision doesn't air novelas from TV Azteca. What would they have done with this opening sequence?

Jarocha

I actually started watching "Alondra" because Ernesto Laguardia was in it. For a while, he was my favorite galan. He's still good, and I miss him. The firefighter character, Luis, from Desencuentro was terrific.

(I love Veronica Merchant. Her character -- Alondra's cousin -- has really a smashing storyline.

As Aribeth knows, my favorite couple in Corazón Salvaje '93 are Veronica Merchant and Cesar Evora.)

You guys have peaked my interest. I will have to see if Alondra is on dvd anywhere, or is the whole thing on YouTube?

Jarocha- Shows like Mad Men (AMC), Breaking Bad (FX), The Shield (FX),Sex and the City (HBO), The L Word (Showtime), etc., are produced by those companies. It's their decision to invest in those shows and produce them. AMC and FX have pushed the envelope, but you won't see the kind of nudity or the raunchy sex there like you see on HBO because it's basic cable, although very edgy for basic cable. You will hear many people say Mad Men is really great, but just think how much better it could be had HBO produced it, because then they wouldn't be limited.

Jeri: I liked Desencuentro alot too, even though the ending was so sad. I was surprised by how much I liked Ernesto and Daniela Castro together, I was dubious about them working as a couple for some reason.

Vivi: I've heard great things about Mad Men but I haven't gotten around to watch it. Since it is shown here on HBO and I don't have the channel I'd have to watch it online. It's weird how the rights to air the series outside of the US works. Shows from AMC and FX usually end up on Fox or Universal and those are basic cable channels here. A few years ago we had The L Word and Six Feet Under on Warner Channel which is also basic cable even if those were produced by Showtime and HBO. I remember back when Buffy was shown on Fox here instead of Warner and it was on the WB in the US. I always wondered why that was too.

I haven't watched Alondra on youtube but it seems that the all the episodes leading to the ending are up too. I don't know if it is the whole novela or if the person who put it up missed anything.

Jarocha

Vivi, email me at jeri@tormenta.com.

Jarocha, I watched Desencuentro a couple of times, too. The back end is terrifying, but the front end is great.

Juan Pelaez makes an excellent villain, and the neighborhood is really interesting. Good characters in that show.

Luz Maria Jerez is a good villain, too; and the bi-sexual hunk is amazing, LOL -- the one Pelaez's character is involved with.

I agree, Pelaez and Jerez are fantastic actors. Too bad I haven't seen much of them lately. I still remember Pelaez as Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla in La Antorcha Encendida. Nobody else can play Hidalgo now, his version is too ingrained in my memory.

Jarocha

Pelaez created an excellent villain in Angela, too.

The Nada Personal entrada is beautifully done, Jarocha; I'm going to give that show a look. I like Ana.
