La Verdad Oculta #52: Ah...stolen property, eh? Whew, what a relief!

* Asunción and Caramelo visit their old friend and his two sons who live somewhere in the slum district, though at first the man doesn't realise that the elegant man at his doorstep is his old beggar pal.

* Medina notices Elsa's sadness and asks her if she has something to tell him. He's sure something has happened to her. Elsa starts crying and says she's afraid that if she tells him everything he may change his opinion of her. She has a brother whom she loves much but he's in prison... again. Medina comforts her, he swears she can count on him and kisses her cheek. *Viewerville: wow*

* Asunción confesses to his friend he and Caramelo want to leave Juan José's house because he doesn't like the way he acts and how he treats Elsa lately. His friend doesn't understand him, okay, that JJ must be mad about his architect girlfriend and may be irritating, but think about Caramelo's future! Asunción admits he does enjoy being rich and having everything. Yeah, he does have a TV, too. He invites the family to watch the football match with them in the hotel apartment.

* Gaby and Leo are just talking on phone about a meeting next day when David shows up and nervously asks her about the photos the made in Los Angeles. She responses she can't find them, they must've been lost. David has a Bale Out moment: he's not stupid and she should've made up a better story! What? He shows her the photo from Carlos's office. The couple shout each other's head off and Bertha listens to their quarrel with the utmost pleasure. Finally David tells Gaby he's very sorry for marrying her and runs upstairs.

* The guys and the kids are watching the football match when the doorbell rings, and Alejandra shows up. Miss Snobby's eyes almost pop out of her head when she sees JJ's guests and the mess in the apartment and hears the noises, but the last straw is when one of the kids called Chicles asks if she's Auntie Elsa? So she turns up the nose, rudely refuses to be introduced to the guys and quickly leaves.

* Outside the Genovés villa a weeping Gaby calls Leo who invites her for a coffee. In the restaurant he admits he thinks she doesn't know much about her husband. But she loves him so much... He hugs and comforts the sad woman.

* JJ follows Alejandra to the garage and they bicker about what happened in the apartment. JJ is angry at Ale for being a snobbish princess, and a very jealous Ale says oh, she's sorry for not being Auntie Elsa! And of course they confused her with Elsa, he's obviously talking about her all day!

* Gabriela tries to convince David that she doesn't understand how Carlos got the photo but it's hopeless. He leaves the house with his suitcase and shouts he wants to divorce. *Viewerville: rolleye* Gabriela tells everything to the Balmori sisters, and although Bertha does her best to act like a surprised, innocent, good-hearted girl who has nothing to do with the scandal, and who's very worried for the young couple, she can't fool Alejandra.

* Carlos tells Adolfo David plans to do an audit in Sagitario. Naturally he threw him and his accountants out but there may be problems since the last balance sheet they made was falsified. Dolphie says it's not his job, but actually it is since he's the manager of the restaurants. Daddy orders his son to bring all books of accounts to their home but Carlos, who prefer running the business lawfully, doesn't like it and asks Adolfo is they have robbed their associates or no. Adolfo has a tantrum and calls David but he refuses to talk with him.

* At the architect studio Ale is complaining to Mina about her relationship with Mina when the big guy shows up. What's her problem? Elsa! She's obviously too important for him. JJ insists that she's his a-mi-ga, or she's like a sister for him. They know each other for a long time because she has been visited her brother who was his cellmate. Oh, yeah? And was her brother imprisoned innocently too, asks Ale sarcastically. JJ decides to leave before he explodes but she asks him to wait - and she throws the keys of the house at him. The job is done.

* Leo interrogates the jeweler Marcos sold the first diamonds to. Where are the gems now? An old customer of him

bought them? And what's that customer's name? Yolanda Rey.

* Elsa asks Mauricio for a day off because she plans to visit her brother, and the knight in the shining armor and glasses offers to accompany her.

* In the hotel apartment JJ tells Asunción about his quarrels with Ale. She's is angry at him because of Elsa. Asunción says Elsa is like them, she's one of them and JJ agrees. He realizes he treated her very badly and decides to visit her. However, at Mauricio's office he runs into the extra from Mad Men again who tells him Elsa and Medina left together and doesn't know when they're going to return. Outside he gets a phone call from Gabriela who'd like to meet him.

* Poor, desperate Abelardo meets Fausto in the headquarters and begs him to return as Mario again. They have to control David somehow before he commits another stupidity, like the audit in the restaurants. But Fausto is completely fed up with the Genovés family, and refuses to obey. He runs out and while Abe's chasing him outside the building Susana shows up holding a suitcase. She says her husband left her, she has nowhere to go and needs a job... please, please, please, help him! Since Abe has a heart of gold he sends her to the Genovés villa and says try to talk with Sra Gabriela. After he leaves Susana's tears dry out immediately.

* In the restaurant JJ gives a lovely paper rose he made to Gaby but she's more interested in what he wants from her new family. He admits it was Mario and Adolfo Ávila who sent him into jail 11 years ago.

* Mr. Hot Cop and his faithful assistant visit Yolanda at her flat and says he wants to interrogate her in the AFI headquarters. But why, why, why?! Because she bought stolen diamonds. A brief relief passes over Yolanda's face but when she learns Leo is talking about the famous diamonds from The Shoes she gets frightened again.

* Susana shows up at the doorstep of the Genovés villa and begs Gaby for job. Bertha says she never employs

anyone who doesn't have references but Gabriela takes pity on her. Great, now we have one more viper in the Genovés household. Speaking of snakes, an angry Adolfo stroms into the hall and threatens Gaby: her precious husband has no right to order audits or play the boss of the company. He isn't even Mario's son!

Good morning. :-) Woo, it is chilly here in Chicagoland this morning: 18 degrees F (-8 C)

Looking forward to Aribeth's summary and screen caps later.

Here are the You Tube links for Episode 52 for discussion in the meantime:

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

JJ is really something!!! Now he's running to Elsa. I'm glad she was out with Medina. Boy, did JJ look jealous.

I had a feeling that if Ale saw how JJ lived she would look down her nose. That's where the difference lies between Elsa and Ale. Didn't she say the apt. was dirty??? Altho she was really pissed when the kid thought she was "Tia Elsa."

Thanks for links, Jeri. Looking forward to Aribeth's summary and screen caps.

Ann-NYC

For once (actually twice - her "Because Roberto's a idiot!" a while back" was a gem), I agree with Bertha. Oh no, Gabi's letting Marcos' girlfriend in their house. Maybe Bertha's spying will actually come in handy here for the good guys.

Love how considerate Mauricio is of Elsa. Hope she let's go and gives him a real chance. He deserves first place, not fallback guy.

Nice to see Yolanda in her own home. Even nicer to see Leonardo there on her trail.

Thanks for opening the discussion post, I love the title.
Sorry for being so late, ladies, I've just arrived at home. I'm working on the recap now.

No problem, Aribeth! :-) Thank you for hanging in there.

That Adolfo -- he's quick on his feet; making out in front of the coppers like he was surprised Yolanda didn't get the provenance on the jewels.

Leonardo didn't catch that momentary relieved look pass over Yolanda's face to hear they only wanted her for buying stolen property. I'm kind of surprised. He's quick, too; but not this time, apparently.

Thanks Jeri for the links. Can't wait for Aribeth's recap for the details.

My goodness, David really lost it. I was hoping that Gabi's slap would have brought him to his senses, but no such luck. Did I understand correctly, did David say he wished he had never married her.

JJ's hotel room might have been a mess, but JJ just stood there at the door like a dummy.

What, is JJ now going to try for Elsa, is that right. Did Limon say that Ale was stuck up and Elsa is more their class.

Margaret

I think I have whiplash. From highs to lows in 60 seconds. The guys were blissfully happy and the next day are miserable. David wants a divorce but at least he's allowing Gabi to stay in the house. If I were Gabi, I would flee now that David's gone. Flee from evil Bertha but, at least, Ale is suspicious of Bertha taking the photos. And if he wants a divorce take half or more since he's being a jealous idiot.

Now Ale was a snob and rude when Asuncion's friend was being so amiable but but the house was a mess. I didn't quite understand the Asuncion/J J conversation that followed but I'll be pretty upset if J J went to find Elsa now because his relationship with Ale has soured.

I love how the photo was discovered so soon and the diamond smuggling is being tied to Yolanda and Adolfo without our having to wait months for any action. All my hopes lie with Leo now that he's connecting things together.

Wonder if Susana will end up helping or hurting everyone now that she's in Mario's home. She has seen his lab where he has all his makeup goodies.

Carlos now knows his father is a swindler, robbing his partner, besides being a horrible father.

GinCA

Oops, thanks for the links, Jeri, and Aribeth I am looking forward to your recap. Hope you both had a great Thanksgiving Day.

GinCA

Whew is right. Thanks Jeri/Aribeth et al. for keeping this going so splendidly.

Margaret and Ann--Ale sure did a double take at the company JJ was keeping. But at least she said with no hesitation when asked if she was Tia Elsa, she replied, no, I'm his girlfriend. Good for her. I think she has a few things to think about yet, but throwing the new house keys at JJ looks pretty final (of course we know it won't be).

Now that Ale knows about Mario, I hope she helps poor Abelardo with quick-tempered Mario ver. 2.0. Has anyone told him that David and hence Gabi will lose Mario's business interests if Mario dies

Oh Susana with the suitcase. We just know the diamonds are in it. When Bertha finds them, it will surely implicate Gabi, since she's the one who insisted on letting Sus in without any references.

Margaret--yes, Limon was chiding JJ for trying to take up with someone out of their class (and manners) and sticking up for Elsa, reiterating that she was more like them and used to their ways.

I'm glad Gabi had enough gumption left to strike out at David rather than melting into a puddle like she did before, only, he shouted louder. It's curious that he left and didn't throw her out.

David not only said he wished he'd never married her, but he wants a divorce. I'm dying to know where he goes to stay and what he's going to do.

Carlos was genuinely impactado when he figured out that Adolfo has been stealing from the Genoveses for years--practically Carlos' whole life.

Despite Commandante Leo's fast-paced, dangerous life, he's the only calm guy in the bunch. Hope it stays that way.

Bertha is terrific at playing the innocent instigator, even with Ale starting to disbelieve her innocence.
Newbie-one-Kanobe

GinCa, I wasn't copying you. You posted while I was composing. At least we're on the same page!
Newbie-O-K

Newbie, you know "great minds...." LOL.

GinCA

In defense of Ale, "yes" she was startled by the mess and JJ's company but what really threw her off was Caramelo's friend asking if she was "Aunt Elsa." Now Ale is thinking JJ could be double-timing her with Elsa. Asuncion chastised JJ for his treatment of Elsa and I believe JJ went to her office only to try to smooth over there friendship. Ale may be class-conscious but she been sweet to Gabriela and also helped Elsa when she need to find Mauricio to clear JJ. I think Asuncion has reverse snobbery assuming Ale can't fit in, and of course he's affected by his loyalty to Elsa.

Just watched my recording. Wow! That was some blow up David had. I would have slapped him a few more times. Gabi is now learning even more stuff. Now she's heard from Adolfo that David isn't Mario's child, and that Adolfo falsely accused JJ.

What was up with JJ this episode? He goes from Ale, to Elsa, to flirting with Gabi, who is a married woman. Jeez!

Two things that struck me as funny- Limon describing tall Elsa as grandote to his friend; and Faustiago wondering what he's supposed to do to control that stubborn boy David, spank him? Yes, that's exactly what we want you to do. :)

Medina continues to be a great guy. I loved that he let Elsa tell him about her brother instead of letting on that he already knew. He wants her to come to trust and confide in him naturally. If it was David, he would have scolded her for hiding things from him and wondered why. Hell, if it were David, he wouldn't allow her to remain friends with JJ!

So Susana is now a part of the household. This should be interesting. What I like about this novela is that there are hardly any extraneous characters. Everyone fits into the mysteries and serves the purpose of moving the plot forward each episode.

I wish Ale would turn on her sister and just say to Gabi and David that Bertha is out to get them and is likely responsible for taking the pictures and giving them to Carlos.

It's interesting to me that as shady as Carlos is, he draws a line at cheating in business and stealing. I am amazed that Yolanda, Felix and Adolfo have managed to keep him in the dark all these years about the true nature/source of their wealth.

Looking forward to the recap Aribeth!

Newbie- Faustiago knows that Mario's inheritance for David and Gabi is at stake. I just don't think he cares about the money part. I think he's more concerned about Gabi being told the truth about her parentage, which Abelardo is prepared to do if Faustiago doesn't cooperate. I don't think he really thinks Gabi's life is better with money (and he's right so far), and I don't think he really likes David that much. He could care less if David ends up poor. But, it would bother him if nasty Adolfo ended up getting his way, and if Gabi learns the truth about her blood father, which would lead to all sorts of questions about her mother and their past. None of which he is prepared to discuss.

Glad this is a novela because no one in their right mind would accept David’s wacky jealous behavior. On the other hand, it isn’t a good idea for Gabi to go to lunch with JJ because, she has doubts about his intent and in a situation like that, she should go to her husband first, not the person who planned to harm HER NEW FAMILY. If my Spanish interpretation is correct, in his lunch with Gaby, JJ repeated that both Adolfo and Mario sent him to prison, his come to Jesus moment with Mario seems to be forgotten for the moment.

I also thought that as Ale threw the keys at JJ, he implied that her “services” of the night before were part of her architectural fees. He has a bad habit of impuning the morality of the women close to him.

In Mi Pecado, we talked about “charming” villains and how much more fun they are to watch. I get a real kick our of both Carlos and Adolfo, at least they both have a "charming" sense of humor and are attractive in a certain way! As we have hoped before, maybe Carlos will come to the light side by the end of the novela, there is no hope for Adolfo though.

Sandy- I agree that in normal circumstances Gabi should have told David about going to meet JJ. But it's not like he is really talking/listening to her right now. I'm glad that she's not just sitting around crying her eyes out about him, and is getting on with the business of trying to solve some of these mysteries. I hate inactive heroines who sit around waiting for the galan to do something.

Vivi,

I like Gaby’s strength too, she doesn’t let people push her around, she has a mind of her own and she uses it. In fact, I think it is just fine to meet with Leo, who is her friend, neighbor and a police officer, to talk about “Marta.” There is no harm in that. She made the arrangements to talk to JJ before the big outburst with David, I thought it was a bad idea a couple days ago and given what has happened, it’s still a bad idea. You make good points about so many of the heroines sitting around waiting for the galan to make a move. Gabi is strong girl and for that reason she is a pleasure to watch.

Vivi:
"[JJ] has a bad habit of impuning the morality of the women close to him."

Yes, that's something that really bothers me of him. I hate that he continues to make this remarks, first to Elsa and now to Ale. He needs to learn to respect the girls he is sorrouded by and not go for that kind of insult when they are fighting.

Now, I did think that Ale came off as a snob when she went to visit JJ's appartment and she definitely became incenced when the kid called her "tia Elsa" so she does have some apologizing to do. I think Asunción expected that kind of behavior from her and that's why he's been weary of her relationship with Juan José. He is starting to feel tired of JJ's shenanigans with the girls and the Genovés and he feels uncomfortable with people from Ale's social class. That's why I think he went to visit his compadre, to get back to some kind of normalcy.

I felt sorry for Carlos, once again Adolfo treated him badly and for something completely unreasonable.

Jarocha

Ups! I meant Sandy. I was replying to her post. Sorry.

Jarocha

No problem Jarocha. :) I also think the way he keeps besmirching the virtue of Elsa and Ale is wrong. In total agreement with Sandy. David keeps doing that with Gabi too.

Jarocha, I thought Ale came off as a snob too! In fact, I watched that episode after our family Thanksgiving day and thought that the men watching games with children playing around (and a mess on the coffee table!) looked just like my house! Ale needs to make a mental adjustment or she’ll never be happy with JJ.

Every romantic pair in our novela has “nay sayers” to contend with. David was told many times in the most condescending terms possible that it was a mistake to marry a waitress. Also, Carlos and Bertha know how to pull his strings and they have been doing it constantly which is wearing his resolve down. JJ has Limon always telling him that Elsa would be better, Ale is too “high falutin” or words to that effect. Ale is contending with the mental expectations that she has had all her life as to whom she should date or marry and JJ doesn’t quite fit the mold. Elsa has JJ who is discouraging her from giving herself emotionally to Medina......it’s a wonder that all the novios in the novela don’t just give up and stay home and watch soccer! It is discouraging when your best friends don’t like your boy/girlfriend!

Newbie- From yesterday:

My orange rum cranberry sauce is very easy to make. Very similar to the recipe posted by someone else, but way less sugar:
-1 bag or up to 1 quart of fresh, washed cranberries
-1 large apple (any sweet variety) chopped
- 3/4 cup sugar (or to taste)
-dash or two of cinnamon
-dash or two of nutmeg
-tablespoon ground/chopped fresh ginger
- 1 cup liquid (combination of orange rum or dark rum, juice of one orange or mandarin, and water)

Combine all ingredients in a large sauce pan and cook over high to medium heat, stirring regularly, until cranberries break down into a thick gelatenous sauce (I like to leave a few cranberries in their round/chunky state for texture). Let cool. It will become more thick the longer it has to cool.

Ok! Aribeth's recap is up! Thanks so much to her.

The worst thing about Bertha is I think she actually believes every word she says; so she has the courage of her convictions, unfortunately.

Aribeth, wonderful recap! Yes, “*Viewerville: wow,*” I’d like to make that WOW, Medina is the best novela character ever! Elsa, what are you waiting for?

Aribeth, you added so many cute expressions....“Bale Out moment” “Miss Snobby's eyes” “*Viewerville: rolleye*” “the knight in the shining armor and glasses” just to name a few. Thanks for all your hard work and time, we really appreciate it.

Vivi, now THAT looks like a GOOD cranberry sauce recipe! I printed it.

Aribeth, you're a doll for this. I especially like the photo of Mauricio and Elsa. And you captured Fausto's and Aberlado's frustrations perfectly.

Clarification needed: Who falsified
the last balance sheet for the club? Carlos? If so .. not so honest. I absolutely do not feel sorry for Carlos; he too has a vicious temper. Remember when he turned frightenly ugly at Gabi when she declined to accept his second offer to go out with him?

I agree, David is out of control,
and with the way he is acting, I think that Gabi should do whatever she pleases. She has done nothing wrong; she is not plotting against
David, but no matter what she does
David will misinterpret it. He must
be totally insecure in addition to
having temper & jealousy issues.
I am glad that Gabi is stronger now. Ale was belittling the waitresses early on, but now she recognizes that Gabi is a good person. It is however a little ironic that she is dating an ex con. Her question, however to JJ re Marcos was very cruel, and I am
glad JJ reacted the way he did.
Culturally they are worlds apart;
she is highly educated, and JJ has
no education. He is indeed "nouveau riche." Thanks for the great recap;
I really look forward to them.

Aribeth, Thanks a million for your witty and picturesque recap. I am now domiciled in Oaxaca for the winter after seven days of hard driving from New Mexico which is fabulous and lucky. The only drawback is missing the Verdad Oculta continuation. I think it is the best script and character set I have known or one of the top ones at the very least. (Alborada always looms in the stratosphere). So I am completely dependent on this Caray Caray set of recaps and all the fun comments.

Even clear down here in Oaxaca, I have the urge to slap David across the room. I just new that his pretty looks and great come one would get washed away by his irrational jealousy. NewbieMarioFeistyFausto is another one who needs a few hard knocks upside the head. His ill humor is blinding him to good futures for these daughters whom he is supposed to love so much. And Bertha is indeed a good badgal, such a pouter/manipulator. It will be fun to see her get her comeuppance. Maybe Adolfo will dump her for being so shallow and annoying first then everyone will figure out all the nasty mean horrible stuff she does all day instead of getting a JOB or improving her mind and future on her own. Sheeesh!

Floridia, Adolfo has been cooking the books for the last 20 years, completely keeping Carlos in the dark about it.

Carlos was clearly surprised and even disgusted to find out they have been robbing (Carlos's word) the Genovéses all this time.

Adolfo was very defensive about what has been going on. I do feel sympathy for Carlos; he could have been a sweet boy except for Adolfo.

I constantly have to wonder what about Carlos Adolfo finds so disgusting: it's as though something about his son reminds him of some failure or some embarrassment of his own. That's how he acts.

He can't bear the presence of Carlos, and Carlos has done nothing; so Carlos clearly symbolizes some private disgust to Adolfo.

Hey Cheryl! What a wonderful place to spend the winter. Will you keep up with us via YouTube?

Jeri- Great theory about Adolfo and Carlos. What could cause the man to hate his son so? Then again, Adolfo can't seem to stand anyone being the star of the show, except him. It's the Adolfo Show all the time in that household. I'm sure even when Carlos was a kid, Adolfo's needs and wants were always put first. I do wonder about the mystery of Carlos' mom.

Aribeth- Great summary. You really captured all the best bits.

Of the galans in this TN, the only one that seems to have his head screwed on straight is Leonardo. David and JJ both need to be shaken until they get some sense. If I was Alejandra, I would skip on a relationship with JJ no matter how good-looking he is. His lack of social skills is downright embarrassing. He might be good in between the sheets, but otherwise, JJ leaves a lot to be desired.

I've got another busy Saturday tomorrow, so I won't have the recap up till late in the day. I will put up a discussion space in the morning before I leave, however.

Aribeth, thank you so much for the recap it was fantastic. And your pictures are always lovely.

Vivi: Yes, David does that with Gabby and it's worse with them because he is her husband and he comes off as abusive with all the yelling he does too.

Sandy: I think Ale probably was raised in a house where everything was in their place and kids were never allowed to touch anything. I have an aunt who kept her house like that, visiting her was always uncomfortable. Fortunately, she has mellowed now her older age.

Cheryl: what a trip! From New Mexico to Oaxaca! I imagine you crossed the border from Chihuahua or Sonora and then you traveled close to the Pacific Coast, unless you took some turns to visit the center states and cities, wow!

Jarocha
