IMPORTANT! Change of indexing - please read, everybody

Hello friends, 5foot alerted me this morning to the imminent dissolution of delicious.com, which we have been using to tag our posts. (The links in the left sidebar take you to the delicious.com site.) Yahoo, who bought delicious, has now decided to shut it down.

I'm trying to find a replacement and have got "experimental" tags now under your show's usual recap link. PLEASE try them out and leave me a comment here. Does the new system work for you?

Recappers, what this means for you is: YOU MUST REMEMBER TO LABEL YOUR POST. In the gray area just under the text box where you type or paste your recaps, there is a white box that says labels. You must use our regulation label for each show or your post won't show up in the feed.

Thanks, Kat, for letting me know about this. Everybody, please try it out and give me feedback.

Hi, Melinama. I'm not a recapper, just an enthusiastic and grateful fan, but I think the alternative you've set up seems fine. The one thing I couldn't tell was whether we will have bookmark pages for each telenovela's recaps, as we do now on delicious.com. Those lists and links to recaps for each novela are invaluable.

Seems to work well and is even better than what we had before. Don't know how you figured this out but it's great Melinama.

Hi Juanita, I don't understand - I think that's exactly what is here? When you click on the experimental link, it should send you to a list of all the (for example) Eva Luna recaps, and then you can click each of those to get to the individual recap. Doesn't that work? I think it does.

It does. It works perfectly.

The new list looks easier to read to me.

I always label the recaps, so does that mean from now on that's all I have to do -- no second step?

Thanks.

Oops, sorry, Melinama. I misunderstood what the "experimental link" was that I was supposed to test. I tested just about everything else. :-) But yes, the experimental link works very well, and in fact I think I prefer it to the one from delicious.com.

Muchísimas gracias.

Melinama, I really like the format but when I clicked on the Experimental Llena Recaps Feed, not all of the recaps are displayed... in fact none of mine are. Also will all the previous TN recaps be indexed with this or will the old indexing still work? I always smile when I look at the Live Traffic Feed and see that someone in Poland has accessed one of my old Gancho recaps. Vanity? You betcha!

Carlos

Hey Melinama. The experimental links worked for me. Thanks for making this transition for us.

Carlos...did you put Llena in that little box in your past recaps? When I went to "sort by author" I got mine, Sylvia's Ferro's, Julia's and even one by Sweeney32. But did not find any of yours. Yessss...this must be fixed! If it can...retroactively.

Hi Carlos, the new system is individual rss feeds of the labels/tags used at the bottom of each post. If you did not put a label in that box under the text box, it won't show in the new feeds. You can go back and edit them. That should fix the problem. It's not my choice to switch but if delicious is going down that's a very big problem. You can also, if you like, tag your posts in any social bookmarking style you like!

I think there's a feed for every old list but I guess I have to go through and add them all. BLEGH!

You can add the label individually to each post on the edit page.

oops jinx

I never labelled anything -- didn't know I was supposed to! Eek! I went back and labelled things on the edit page, but the experimental 'Mundo de Telemundo' list is still blank.

My gawd, Melinama, it would be good if there were some way to do the archives automatically.

Yikes, I don't even know what little box you are talking about. Hombre gave me a list of steps for tagging my recaps and didn't say anything about typing anything into any little box. And you say that you're technology-impaired, Judy.

Carlos

Carlos, Click here for a picture of the little box.

It was part of the original instructions but I guess it's gotten worn off in the folk process. Nobody accessed the posts using that tag so it didn't seem to matter. Now it matters totally.

Jeri, I think there is a "sort by author" way to get all your own posts and add the label to them in a big fat bundle.

Novelamaven, seems the new feed is case-sensitive. I changed the label there from Telemundo to telemundo and it works now. Sigh.

Melinama, I was meaning it would be good for you updating all the archives. Mine are tagged, no problem.

P.S. I was thinking about the archives, because just yesterday I gave someone the link to list of all the FELS recaps.

Thanks, Melinama. I feel your pain.

Melinama: I wondered about the change, but I found inserting the labels works as well as the old method.

Thank you for all your hard work, Melinama!

I’m bewildered – I checked my Monday Llena recap and the label is in the box, though I didn’t put it there. Did you add it, Melinama? But when I went to the experimental link, it didn’t show. It might be because I couldn’t scroll down, because the postings only went as far back as Wednesday.

Are we to change all our past postings? For me, that’s five telenovelas and I’m not sure how to access them all.

I like the feed for looking at recent recaps, but it only lists as many recaps as will fit on a single page (a couple of months' worth). I hope there's some way around this limitation. FELS had like 200 recaps, and LFMB had around 300 first time through and will have an additional 150 minimum by the time the rerun done.

Where do you find a "sort by author" option? I don't see that anywhere.

Hi Maggie, yes I added a tag to yours as an experiment. I'm not sure what to do about the limited number of recaps. Will investigate further - or if somebody else wants to, be my guest. It's JudyB who said there's a sort by author option, I don't have more info on that.

Looks good to me, from what I've seen. The way to change how many are displayed is in your personal "feed properties" after you click on the link and get the list, on the right hand side of the page, under the box where it has different tags listed. It brings up a dialog box and one of the options is whether to display 200 (or some other number) per page or the maximum, which is permanently set at 2500.

Shoot! Never mind. I tried that and it didn't change anything. I still have only 25 posts listed.

It looks like what you see on the indexing page depends on the browser you're using. In Firefox, I just get the list of entries. Nothing about sorting or filtering.

In Explorer, I get the sort and filter buttons, but I don't seem to be able to go more than 25 entries back. Even sorting by author, for example, it just sorts the last 25 by author, it doesn't have the option of choosing one author and seeing their last 25.

Wow, what a royal pain. Thanks for alerting Melinama, Kat, and thanks to both of you that we now know.

Jeanne

I am totally confused. Is the experimental recaps page suppose to take you to your recap? All that shows up for me is a page of Recap titles and the first few sentances. No hyper link. Or is it that it isn't live yet?

I noticed a couple of mine were not listed And I went to the Caray site and signed on as if I was blogging and went to the edit choice and edited all my recaps that did not have labels. Is that what I was suppose to do?

Pata, every post is live linked from the headlines of the posts on that page you are taken to. see what I mean?

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I clicked on the link you told me to and it sent me to an html

It appears that Delicious won't be shut down after all:
