La Verdad Oculta #68: Garnica Hustles a Hustler and Paulita Sniffs Out a Liar

We start with yesterday’s jaw dropping dramatic end. Leo the Lion has taken out Felix the Cat. JJ has taken out Long Haired Goon. And David has taken a couple of bullets for Gabi and is lying unconscious on the pavement. JJ tries to hold back a hysterically crying Gabi who is screaming David’s name and trying to go to him.

Inside JJ’s house, Elsa and Limon note with concern that they both think they heard gun shots (disparos). The kiddies think this is exciting and want to go out to see. Elsa uses her Mommy voice and orders the kidlets to stay put while Limon goes outside to see what’s happening.

I guess the Mexico City Police Department works double time when a prominent businessman and police lieutenant are shot up in a rich neighborhood. They are already on the scene photographing and collecting evidence, along with a few ambulances. They have strapped David to a gurney and are loading him into a waiting ambulance. JJ is begging Gabi to calm down and hands her over to Limon’s care when he joins the scene. Leo is also being loaded into an ambulance, but is still in total control. He tells JJ to inform Gabi’s father before he is taken away. Limon holds a weeping Gabi who is begging heedlessly to go with David.

As Casa Genoves, FaustiMario is also noting to Abelardo all the gunshots he heard. Abelardo also heard all the ambulances and patrol cars (patrullas). They wonder what could have happened, but aren’t surprised considering all that’s happening in Mexico these days. FaustiMario is particularly worried about David and Gabi who should have been there by now. Abelardo tries to calm his fears, saying he’s sure they’re fine. But Faustiago’s face shows that he is not so sure.

In his bedroom, Adolfo is unwinding, after a long day of nefarious deeds, in front of the television. He hears the breaking news of a gun battle (tiroteo) in the neighborhood of San Angel that left two dead and two wounded (heridos). The reporter on the scene reports that David Genoves has been taken away in an ambulance. More news to come as they learn more. “Now, back to your favorite telenovela in progress.”

A worried looking Adolfo calls up and orders one of his henchmen to let him know when he hears from Felix, as he sent Felix out on a job for him and just heard about a gun battle in San Angel.

In the hospital waiting room, Gabi is trying, unsuccessfully, to get a hold of herself. Limon sits with her trying to calm her. Juli brings back news that the doctors can’t yet give any news about David’s status. The two sisters hug and cry at the uncertainty of David’s well being.

At Genoves Manor, JJ rushes in to speak with FaustiMario and Abelardo. As he goes to enter the study, impatient Ale rushes down the stairs. She’s been waiting for him over an hour! “You don’t know what just happened. A tragedy!” (una desgracia/una trajedia) FaustiMario and Abelardo have just exited the study, and JJ corrals them all back in to the study to explain what happened. He breaks down and starts to cry as he tells them of the assassination attempt. He’s not sure if it was meant for him or Leo. He explains that Leo’s been wounded, but the person in really grave condition is David. They are all horrified. David is in a hospital nearby. But the person who really needs Fausto’s support is Gabi. She’s really shaken up and affected by it all. (nerviosa/afectada) Faustiago immediately worries that Gabi was hurt too. JJ assures them she wasn’t, but she did witness it all and is very affected. Faustiago begins to strip off his disguise and rushes off to support his daughter. Ale holds JJ’s face and asks if he’s ok, before they envelope each other in a weepy hug.

Back at the hospital, Gabi is being supported on both sides by Juli and Limon. Her sobbing has turned into the barely catching a breath/hiccupping that happens when you have cried too hard for too long. (In addition to being worried about David, she’s also likely in shock from being shot at.) The doctor finally comes out and asks if there are any relations (familiares) of David Genoves present. Gabi comes forward and firmly states that she is his wife (no more talk of divorce folks). He gives her the prognosis. He was shot by three high caliber bullets. One shot in the right arm (brazo derecho), and two in the chest/thorax (tórax). He has some damage to the lungs (pulmones), lost a lot of blood, and has a lesion on his spinal column (columna vertebral). Gabi is now beside herself wondering if he’s going to die. The doctor informs her that David is in shock (I think Gabi is too), and in very delicate condition. He can’t yet give a definitive diagnosis. They have to wait and see.

After giving all this horrid news to Gabi in the most matter of fact way possible, the good doctor notices that this is really affecting her and asks her to calm down. He lets her know they’ll tell her when they have more info, and leaves. Although devastated by this news, Gabi has the presence of mind to ask how Leo is doing. He’s out of danger, Juli says, and will be released tomorrow.

Tomorrow morning has arrived, and Garnica is dodging balls in the prison yard and waiting for the appearance of Marcos. He informs Marcos that his woman has sold him the letter, for more money than Marcos can imagine. What he wants now from Marcos is an introduction to JJ. He wants to see how much money JJ would pay him for the letter. Marcos isn’t sure JJ would do that, but Garnica is positive JJ would want evidence against the bastards that put him in jail for all those years. Now what’s his address?

Yolanda is watching tv in her bedroom, and Carlos is driving listening to the radio when they both learn about the gun battle and that David is gravely hurt. Carlos’s phone rings, and it’s Roberto wanting to know if Carlos heard the news. Carlos is shocked to hear David is in such bad shape. Roberto coolly implies that Carlos’ dad is involved for sure and wonders who the two dead could be. Carlos is going to call Felix to find out. (Do they accept long distance calls in Hell?)

Adolfo is still in bed, surrounded by the news papers, but obviously hasn’t learned what he wants to know. He calls up Henchman Pablo once again to see what he’s heard. David Genoves is in a private hospital in grave condition. He couldn’t find out if the wounded person was JJ or Leo. He knows there are two dead, and Felix hasn’t returned or called…If they’re lucky Felix and the other goon have been arrested (detenidos), otherwise they’re dead (difuntos). Adolfo thinks that either of these options is bad. He wants Pablo to keep him informed.

Garnica is back at home and also reading his newspaper. He sees the lead story with a picture of an unconscious David in a brace and on a gurney: “David Genoves hijo del famoso empresario hotelero herido de muerto” (David Genoves son of famous hotel empresario mortally wounded)

Garnica is impactado at reading this news. Perhaps because of the mention of David in the letter; the involvement of the Genoves household in his latest scheme; JJ’s involvement in the shooting, if he was mentioned in the article; or because he knows Adolfo is mixed up in this somehow; he decides to call Medina to cancel the beach trip. There’s business he’s got to take care of that will prevent him from traveling. He couldn't close the deal (convenio) with the investor (inversionista) he spoke about. This is not good news for Medina as the work/construction has already started and they can’t halt it. Garnica asks him for a few days, then they’ll reschedule the beach trip for the investors. Medina gives him one week, but he’s clearly frustrated and worried.

At the hospital, Gabi doesn’t look like she’s stopped crying all night. JJ is now taking a turn sitting with her and reassuring her. “David is going to be alright.” Gabi wonders if they intended to kill David. JJ tells her he doesn’t think so. JJ thinks they were after him or Leo. David just got caught in the crossfire protecting her. Gabi tells him she knows she’s seen one of the gunmen before but she can’t place where. “Where? In the place you used to work?” Gabi’s too upset to remember right now. Fausto, who must have arrived the previous night, wants her to go home to eat and rest for a while. JJ supports this idea, but Gabi refuses.

Ale arrives, looking very worried after seeing all their grave faces. She asks Gabi how David is. Abelardo informs them that the doctors are preparing David for another surgery. Ale asks if he’s conscience, but they have not been told. Ale demands that they must have more info. Seeing that this is sending Gabi over the edge again, JJ gently pulls Ale aside and tells her that David really is in very grave condition. Ale is impactada and begins to weep. She wants to know what really happened. “Was it an attempted robbery/assault (asaltar)?” The police have not yet figured it out, but JJ tells her he is sure it was an attempted hit (atentado). “Who would want to kill David?” JJ lets her know Leo is certain it was intended for him or JJ. Ale is shocked. Someone trying to kill JJ? Does he have any idea who it could be. “Quien mas?” (Who else?) Ale’s face registers immediate recognition of who the mustachioed devils could be. “Los Ávila?!” Yep.

In Michoacán, we are teased with the possibility that Dora will see the news of David’s injuries. Don Jorge’s paper is delivered, with front page news of the assault. Don Jorge doesn’t feel like reading the paper right now, so Dora bids the delivery boy to leave it near the door, where the soda delivery boy promptly places a palette of drinks directly on top of the paper.

Taking advantage of the family being at the hospital, Adolfo arrives at the guarded Genoves Casa to sniff around. He questions head body guard Edgar as to how long they’ve had guards. Adolfo assures him that he’s a family friend and business partner. When Edgar announces Adolfo to Susana, she lets him pass and checks to see if Mario is in his office. Knowing full well, he wouldn’t find Mario home, Adolfo offers his card to Susana to call him, telling her he can offer her much more than Roberto. He’d like to speak with her, but not here. Bertha comes click clacking in. Adolfo starts his act. “Is it true about David? How? Who could have done this? How awful!” Etc. He quickly learns from Bertha that David is in grave condition in a coma, and Leo was wounded. He offers to accompany her to the hospital, and she accepts (dummy!).

At the hospital JJ has learned from the doctors that David will be in intensive care all of the day and into the night. JJ and Fausto once again urge Gabi to go home and rest. She avoids agreeing to this by changing the subject. She wants to know if Don Mario has been informed. Since everyone there (Fausto, Abelardo, JJ and Ale) are in the know, and she is not, they all exchange guilty looks and begin to lie. They tell Gabi that since Mario is not well, they have decided not to tell him until David’s condition has improved a bit. Abelardo pulls Fausto aside and tells him he has to get in costume and return. Not only does it seem strange to Gabi that Mario is not there, but the press (la prensa) will wonder too. Fausto’s not keen on this but agrees. He tells Gabi that he has to leave on a work matter. She gets worried and gets his assurance that he’s not leaving the city. He kisses her goodbye and leaves her in JJ’s and Ale’s arms.

At her condo, Yolanda can’t find her glasses and needs Juanita’s help reading her book of phone numbers to find Felix’s number. Carlos comes in looking very worried. He asks if Yolanda has heard the news and she wonders if what she heard about David’s condition is true. Carlos is certain of it. He is also certain that his father is behind it. Yolanda tries to deny it, but she can’t even convince herself. Carlos has been trying to find Felix and hasn’t been able to locate him anywhere. And the news said there were two dead. Perhaps that’s why I can’t find him? Yolanda looks very worried now.

Back at the hospital, Leo is being released into the caring arms of Juli. His left arm is bandaged and in a sling, and Juli carries his bag. Ramon meets them in the hallway and learns Leo is fine but has been told to rest a few days (secretly Ramon does a happy dance). He reminds Leo that his daughter is set to arrive at 8AM today. Oh no! With the shooting it slipped Leo’s mind. His sister is about to give birth to her baby, and so his daughter is coming to spend some time with him for a while. Ramon will go pick her up, but Leo wonders how he will be able to manage in his state. Juli graciously offers to have his daughter stay with her and Gabi for a few days while he heals. When Leo tells her that’s too much to ask, she looks at him with love in her eyes. She tells him that they are friends and reminds him of all the things he has done for them. It will be her pleasure to take care of his daughter, with much affection (cariño). Leo smiles, strokes her cheek, and perhaps has begun to look at her with new eyes. (The way to a man’s heart is through his daughter.) Ramon notices, and seems to approve.

In the waiting area, Ale brings a disheveled JJ a coffee and urges him to go home, bathe, and get some rest. But JJ doesn’t want to leave Gabi alone. Ale assures him Gabi won’t be alone since she’s there, but JJ’s not convinced. His phone rings. It’s Garnica, who doesn’t introduce himself, but wants to know how much JJ would pay for a letter that tells who really killed the hotel maid Isabel over eleven years ago, for which JJ was blamed. JJ wants to know what else the letter says, but Garnica hangs up and leaves JJ hanging. JJ notes out loud that it was a private number and they hung up (colgó) on him. Ale asks who it was. “It was a man who told me he had a letter that says who killed the chambermaid (recamarera) Isabel.” “Dora’s letter?” JJ is shocked that Ale knew about Dora’s letter, and is mad to know she’s known for a while but didn’t tell him. Because she was being stupid (por tonta), and because she was mad at him and he had offended her. JJ is willing to pay as much as he needs to for that letter. Ale thinks this is crazy. Once this guy finds out how much money JJ has, he’ll take him for all he’s got. JJ doesn’t care. He just wants to clear his name.

At Mauricio’s office, Elsa is giving him the inside scoop on the shooting. He’s shocked and wonders if they know who was behind it and what the motive was. Elsa explains that they don’t yet know for sure, but JJ thinks it was an attempt on him or the police officer. David just happened to come along at that moment (por casualidad), and when he saw his wife in danger he ran to protect her and that’s how he got shot. “How horrible!” Mauricio is concerned for Alejandra and how she must be taking her cousin being hurt- he wants to call her. He asks Elsa how JJ is, but she hasn’t yet seen him since it happened. Mauricio is sure she must be very worried about JJ because of how she feels for him. She tells him she has the same kind of concern for JJ as Mauricio has for Ale. Mauricio says it’s because Ale is his friend. Well, Elsa is worried because JJ is her FRIEND. Mauricio and Elsa smile at each other.

Back in the hospital waiting room, Lucifer has strolled in with his handmaiden. They wonder how David is, and Ale gives her sister the stink eye as she tells them David is still unconscious. Adolfo starts up with his false concern. “Who could have done such a thing?” JJ appears and gets up in his face. “You sure you don’t know who it was?” Bertha asks JJ what he’s implying, but JJ tells Adolfo directly that he knows what he’s talking about. Adolfo insists he has no idea what JJ’s talking about and he doesn’t like his tone. Well JJ doesn’t like HIM, his face, or any of the crap (porqueria) he’s done. Adolfo acts offended. He’s not going to take this lack of respect! Gabi finally gets tired of this pissing match and tells them to lower their voices. “This is a hospital for God’s sake!” JJ apologizes to Gabi, then turns to Adolfo and requests that they take it outside. Adolfo tells him he’s being ridiculous (but most likely he’s shaking in his boots at the thought of being alone with JJ). Plus, he didn’t come here to talk to JJ. Things get loud and heated between them again and Ale jumps in to calm JJ down.

Adolfo thinks it’s better if he leaves, but runs into “Mario” and Abelardo on his way out. FaustiMario wants to know what he’s doing there. He says he’s come to see how David is. FaustiMario wants to know since when the health of his son was important to Adolfo. Adolfo has no real answer for that so he chooses to act offended by how everyone is reacting to his kindhearted gesture. He points his finger at Mario and demands to speak to him. FaustiMario points a finger right back and says he wants to speak to Adolfo too. Adolfo says he’ll meet him later at his house, but FaustiMario says he’ll tell him when.

When Gabi sees Don Mario, she starts to cry all over again. She says David is in bad shape and they haven’t allowed her to see him. FaustiMario has Abelardo speak to the doctors to demand that at least David’s wife get to see him. JJ takes his leave of Gabi, saying he has an important matter (asunto) to deal with, but will be back later. Gabi thanks him for everything and he gives her a hug and a kiss that seems to concern Ale. Ale wants to go with JJ, but JJ still seems a bit perturbed about her keeping the knowledge of the letter from him. He asks her to stay with Gabi and David, and leaves without kissing Ale goodbye. He says they’ll talk later.

Abelardo returns with news that the doctor will allow Gabi to see David. Gabi enters the room wearing scrubs. She’s devastated to see unconscious David, hooked up to machines and a breathing tube. She doesn’t know where to touch him that won’t hurt him, so she gingerly touches his hand and then breaks into fresh tears.

At Leo’s apartment, he is being doted on by his daughter Paulita, and Juli. Paulita wants to know if it hurts a lot and if he will ever be able to move his arm again. He tells her he will. Juli has made them all sandwiches for lunch and they sit down in the living room to eat. Paulita looks at Juli appreciatively and asks if she is her father’s girlfriend. This stops both Juli and Leo in their tracks, but Juli answers first saying she is Leo’s friend. Paulita continues her interrogation, this time of her father. She asks if he has a girlfriend. When he says no (giving her a “watch it young lady” look), she then asks why he and Juli don’t become boyfriend and girlfriend then. (I like this kid.) He tells her to eat her sandwich and not ask so many questions. Before she takes a bite, she decides to ask one more question. She asks Juli if she doesn’t like her dad. Juli dodges the question and tells her to obey her father and eat her sandwich. The doorbell rings. It’s Ramon and he obviously has some work issues to speak with Leo about that can not be discussed in front of a child. Juli gets the hint and takes Paulita to her apartment.

Leo gets right down to business with Ramon (isn’t he supposed to be resting?). They’ve identified the two dead assassins since they both had a criminal record (antecedantes penales). One of them is known as El Tuerto (One Eye) but his real name was Felix Mendez. The other was named Aurelio Cabrera, known as El Chango (The Monkey). The one eye remark immediately sparks Leo’s interest. Ramon continues to explain that they were both a part of the same gang of smugglers as the guy they caught a while back. Leo wants Ramon to interrogate the smuggler they caught to get more info. (Looks like Ramon’s To Do list will be even longer with Leo “resting”.)

At his house, JJ looks freshly bathed and changed, but equally preoccupied and worried as before. Limon is worried that he’s just going to give money to some stranger who says he has a letter. JJ is sure he must really have it as he gave some specific and accurate details like the name of the maid, that JJ was the one found guilty, and the name of the real killers, the Avilas. JJ is positive that this letter exists. Don Fausto told him so, then Leo, and even Ale confirmed it. So who wrote this letter? Dora. Limon is shocked. HIS Dorita?! “Yes. The one who used to work for the Genoves.” Limon wants to know what he means by “used to” (trabajaba). JJ explains that she took off and no one knows where she is.

In Michoacán inside the store, Don Jorge is tired, but Dora explains she’s used to working. She talks about the years she worked for Mario and the Genoves in their palatial home, and the years before that she worked as a chambermaid in one of their huge hotels. It’s three o’clock, so they decide to close up shop to eat. They take a few drinks from the palette left on the unread newspaper and lock up. She tells him the name of the wonderful generous man she worked for- Mario Genoves.

Looks like Garnica not only got JJ’s phone number from Marcos in order to blackmail him, but also his home address. Limon and JJ come to the door, and this time Garnica puts on his “I’m a lawyer for many important people and you should talk to me” hat. As they see him in, Limon whips off his apron to make himself more presentable, and accidentally whips off his hairpiece as well. (Lol!)

Garnica explains that he’s represented important businessmen in Mexico for years and helps them invest their money in real estate (bienes raices) or tourism projects. He knows that JJ has recently come into an inheritance (patrimonio). Hold on a minute. JJ wants to know how he knows that. “Mr. Victoria, that’s my job.” Right now he’s doing a tourist project in Puerto Vallarta with an architect who has a really unique vision. His name is Mauricio Medina, and he’s the one designing this project. JJ’s ears perk up at Mauricio’s name. “You know him?” JJ confirms he knows him, but he doesn’t want to do any business with Mauricio for personal reasons. (Ok. I’m going to interrupt here for a second. Although I am glad that JJ is suspicious of Garnica’s scheme, I just don’t understand what JJ’s issue is with Mauricio, when Mauricio has only ever been helpful, gracious, and straight forward with JJ!)

Outside the hospital, Ale and Abelardo are trying to convince FaustiMario that he needs to stay in Mario mode for now, although he wants to be in Fausto mode to support his daughter. People will figure out what’s going on if he doesn’t stay in character. More importantly, her sister Bertha will figure it out. Faustiago’s scared that he’s next on Adolfo’s hit list and wants to take his daughters and flee. Abelardo asks if he really thinks Gabi would leave David in this condition. Ale suggests a solution. They’ll convince Gabi to go home and rest for a while and FaustiMario can assume Fausto mode and go home to be with her. When she returns to be with David at the hospital, he can go back into Mario mode and do what he needs to do as Mario, like meet with Adolfo. It’s the only way they will succeed and unmask the Avilas. While he’s in Fausto mode Ale and Abelardo will cover for him. And Leo can help as well.

Their discussion is interrupted by a downcast Gabi. She says how bad David looked, but FaustiMario reminds her that David is a strong young man, and he will recuperate. He finally convinces her to go home to rest.

At JJ’s, smooth talking Garnica seems to have convinced JJ to join his pyramid scheme (ah, investment opportunity). The only thing JJ asks is that he has minimal contact with Mauricio (WTF??). Once the construction is done, they won’t have any need for contact with the architect. This pleases JJ, and he asks if Mauricio knew Garnica was coming to see him. Garnica is interrupted by JJ’s ringing phone before he can think of an answer. It’s the Mirador Hotel manager telling JJ they’ve found an old address for Dora and the phone number of a relative in her old personnel file. JJ gets a piece of paper to write it down. He doesn’t say Dora’s name out loud (thank goodness), but does tell the manager to share the info with Leo. Leo’s name catches Garnica’s attention very quickly. When JJ hangs up, he asks Garnica to send him the business plan. He and his “partners” will look it over and have an answer for him in a week. Garnica knows he will not regret it and has a feeling they are going to be doing a lot of business together and making lots of money. They shake on it. Limon looks a bit wary.

At the Guillen’s, Juli has Paulita occupied helping her sort beans. She wants to be with her father and doesn’t understand why they had to leave. Juli explains that he needed to speak with the other gentleman. The doorbell rings and it’s a very weary Gabi who slowly makes her way to the couch under Paulita’s watchful gaze. Juli introduces Paula, and Gabi tries to muster up a smile. Paula asks why she’s crying and Gabi answers it’s because her husband is very sick. Her dad is sick too. He was shot. Knowing this is not doing Gabi any good, Juli takes Paulita back home to see if Leo is free. Gabi wants to know if their father has arrived home, and is disappointed to find he has not.

Leo and Ramon are still hard at work when Juli and Paulita return. Leo gives his girl a one armed hug and kiss before she scampers off to watch tv in the bedroom. Juli explains that they came back so quickly because Gabi returned and is very sad/depressed. Leo says he will stop by to see Gabi later and asks how David is doing. “Muy mal.” Leo is very sorry to hear this. Juli reminds him that he’s supposed to be resting. Getting shot is not a little thing (cualquier cosa). Ramon agrees with her and jumps at the chance to leave. Juli compliments his daughter on being so lovely (linda). Leo tells her she’s lovely as well, and gives her hand a gallant kiss. (Progress people! Yay!) They smile shyly at each other.

A bit later that evening, Gabi is still in the same spot on the couch, staring out into space. She has obviously not eaten, bathed, or rested. Juli is at a loss for what to say or do. She answers the door when the bell rings. It’s Paulita. Her father’s asleep (finally) and she’s bored. She wonders if Juli needs any more help sorting beans (the kid must be REALLY bored). Juli doesn’t need any more help, but she wants Paulita to let her father rest. Juli will bring her something to draw (dibujar). Just then Fausto arrives home and goes straight to Gabi. He asks how she is. She says she’s very sad, and David’s very grave. She wants to go back to the hospital. Fausto thinks she should stay home that night. There’s nothing she can do there. Tomorrow morning they’ll go super early.

Juli asks where he’s been. He says he had some business to attend to, and then he went over to Leo’s to see how he’s doing (como sigue). Juli gives a confused glance over to Paulita, who Fausto can’t see behind his back. Juli asks again. “You were with Leonardo?” This time Paulita approaches. She stands in front of Fausto and says it’s not true (no es cierto). “Who is this little girl?” Juli explains she’s Leo’s child. Fausto is at a loss how to explain getting caught in this lie. Paulita levels him with the same intense questioning glare as her father. (Like father, like daughter.)

At Club Sagitario, Adolfo’s day is about to go from bad to worse. Garnica comes to see him and has piqued his interest by mentioning the letter before their meeting. Adolfo wants to know what letter Garnica is talking about. Garnica happily goes on about the opportunities life can suddenly throw our way, without us even asking for them. Adolfo wants him to speak plainly and get to the point. Well it turns out that a letter has recently fallen into Garnica’s hands, that tells the tale of a murder that happened in the Mirador Hotel eleven years ago. “And what’s that got to do with me?” Garnica chuckles. “You know exactly what I’m talking about.” Adolfo doesn’t like his tone (looks like lots of commoners are getting uppity with King Adolfo today). He pays Garnica to deal with his legal matters, and that’s it! “You PAID me!” (past tense) “As of today we’re PARTNERS.” Garnica demands 30% of all of Adolfo’s earnings. Adolfo slams the desk in frustration and disgust. The two men rise from their seats and stare each other down.

Thank you Vivi!!! Just going to watch the ep in a few minutes. Here are the You Tube links for Episode 68:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Carlos is going to call Felix to find out. (Do they accept long distance calls in Hell?) Spit the coffee time....very funny. I love your humorous and detailed recaps. Thanks, Vivi. Jeri, thanks for the links.

The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Detective Paula, of the twenty questions, should join Dad on the case. She'll ferret out the truth in her direct way.

Looking forward to the rest.

GinCA

The recap is all up now. Thanks for the links Jeri!

GinCA- Yes, Paula is a chip off the old block. Fausto's lies don't stand much of a chance with her also in the building. :) On top of that, she's instigating a romance between her dad and Juli. Go Paula, go!

And Garnica is amazing too. He's got like ten different cons going at the same time. He's blackmailing JJ for the letter, while at the same time pulling him in as an investor in the tourism scheme. He's blackmailing Adolfo with the exact same letter to get a cut of all of his earnings. He's pulled Medina in to construct the tourism project, and probably has some other investors roped in. I've got to give the man some credit. He's not as smooth as Adolfo, but he's being way more effective right now.

Vivi, thanks for all the detail. I struggled with the information in this one, but thanks to your recap I understand better, particularly about what Garnica is up to. Among my favorites: "Adolfo is unwinding after a long day of nefarious deeds"; "Do they accept long distance calls in hell?": “Lucifer has strolled in with his handmaiden.” lol

Poor poor poor Fausto. He must so want to unburden himself, but this sure isn't the right time.

Thinking about Yolanda. Carlos trusts her so much. She’s like a fairy godmother to him. It's going to be shattering when he finds out she's been well aware of all Adolfo's vile deeds all the time. Other than her luxuries, Carlos is what she values most.

The hustler getting hustled -- and the new hustler ensnaring Mauricio and maybe JJ in some crooked development project? Goodness. Surely JJ will check out Garnica, but then even Mauricio, who is definitely more business savvy than JJ, thinks Garnica is legitimate.

Julieta might want to rethink getting with Leo - with him and Paulita as father-daughter bookends, she’d never get away with anything. ;>

I think we saw every single main character in this episode, including the new ones. Tell me if I missed anyone: FaustiMario (in both forms); Aberlardo; Ale; JJ; Bertha; Susana; Edgar the guard; comatose David; Gabi; Juli; Leo; Ramon; Paula; Yolanda and her maid; Carlos; Roberto; Adolfo; the corpses of Felix and Chango; imprisoned goon and goon on the phone; Garnica; Marcos; Elsa; Medina; Limon; Caramelo; Chicles; Dora; and Don Jorge.

Wait, I just realized the ONE person we didn't see- Mina.

Thanks Vivi for a wonderful recap. Paulita is every bit like her dad. Very inquisitive and knows when someone is lying. I wonder how will Fausto get out that whopper he told. Gabi is a mess. You could really see her anguish and fear that David won't make it.

I was screaming, "look at the paper!" when Dora and her friend walked past it on their way out the door. Maybe she'll see it on Monday since this show is moving at rapid speed.

I hope JJ doesn't get involved in this business scheme. I don't see any good coming from it.

I'm thinking Leo is beginning to see Juli in a whole new light thanks to her kindness toward his daughther. Also, I'm thinking after he heard and saw how broken up Gabi was about David after the shooting, he realized whatever chance he had with her is gone.

Looking forward to Monday's show to see how the plots moves along.

Thanks for the recap Vivi. I happened to be up late and saw the shoot out and now I'm hooked. I loosely know the four main protagonists but it's all a blur from there. Any recommendations on how to get up to speed on this one? My thoughts are to read this past week and go back to the first recaps.

Vivi, this recap was amazing. You
spent so much time on it giving every important detail. Muchissimas
gracias! Limón who has no education and cannot read or write
seems to possess a keen instinct
for judging people on short notice.
It appeared to me that he wanted
no part of the Garnica scheme. We'll see how much influence he has over JJ on this.

Thank you for the fantastic recap, Vivi!

Welcome, Karen, it's good to see you here. :) Since the story is quite complex, I think you should start with the first recap. But here's a short summary of the events:

* In 1986 a dancer called Marta was killed in Adolfo Ávila's theater. Actually, she was a bad girl. There were two suspects: her jealous husband, Santiago Guzmán (a talented actor) and her ex-lover, Mario Genovés (a filthy rich hotel owner). Santiago fled with their two daugthers (two-years old Marta and baby Elena). He changed their names, now he's Fausto Guillén and the girls are Gabriela and Julieta.

* Since Mario was the first one who found her body Adolfo threatened him with giving him up to the police. He wanted to become Mario's business associate and he made him to sign a ridiculous contract which stated that if any one the associates dies before the contract expires then the other associate will own the business (= every single hotel, restaurant and bank accounts).

* In 1995 a young maid called Isabel was killed in hotel Mirador which belonged to Mario and Adolfo. Adolfo, who wanted to avoid bad reputation, accused one of the employees called Juan José Victoria Ocampo and the boy was put behind bars for 20 years. He's quite pissed off at the Genovéses and the Ávilas.

* In 2006, when only 6 months are left of the contract, Mario learns he has incurable brain tumor. Fortunately one day he notices Fausto in the cemetery, and he obliges him to take his place after his death. Since they are very similar to each other and Fausto is an actor, he's able to do the job. Naturally he doesn't want to obey but Mario blackmails him with telling everything to his lovely daugthers. By the way, the older girl, Gaby is Mario's child. Fausto knew this when he married to Marta but he raised her as his own.

* Mario has an adopted son called David. His mother is a servant, Dora, who had to abandon her child when he was a baby. We don't know who the father is but we wouldn't be surprised if David was Adolfo's son. Dora worked as a housekeeper in the Genovés villa in the for a very long time. Before she was a maid in hotel Mirador, and actually she witnessed Isabel's death. Two young boys were chasing her that night: our favourite crazy villano called Roberto Zárate and Adolfo's son, Carlos. When things started to get nasty Carlos tried to stop Roberto but he threw her off the 555th floor of the hotel. Dora didn't see Roberto and thought it was Carlos who murdered the girl.

...

* Julieta and Gabriela start to work as waitresses in Club Sagitario which belongs to the Genovéses and Ávilas. The club's manager is Carlos. David and Gaby meet and fall in love. Carlos's very jealous at David and likes Gaby so he tries to seduce her.

* Adolfo isn't only a blackmailer, he's a smuggler, too. He gives a free trip to Los Angeles to the best employees of Sagitario - Gaby and Julieta. He gives them many elegant dresses and shoes, too, and his contact in LA hides many diamonds in one of her ugly shoes. Gaby was supposed to smuggle them to Mexico, but since the shoes were uncomfortable, she got rid of them and they ended up in a dustbin in LA. For a while Adolfo thinks the Guillén girls stole the diamonds.

* Juan José gets a new cellmate, a crazy, gruffy but adorable old murderer called Don Gregorio. He takes a liking to JJ and tells him a secret: he owns a huge amount of golds! Before he dies he gives him his old house and tells him the treasure is hidden under his kitchen. Though JJ has 8 years left he is paroled for good behaviour. His mother died in an accident and he has only one friend, a young girl called Elsa, whose stupid brother, Marcos was his cellmate. She loves him but he treats her (and bosses her around) like she was his little sister. In Gregorio's house he meets and old beggar, Asunción, and his "niece" called Caramelo. They find the gold and become richer than Mario and Adolfo. Now he can take revenge on the two bastards.

* However, Mario is a good man. He has two helpmates: Abelardo, his loyal butler, and Alejandra, his orphaned niece. Alejandra and her sister called Bertha live in Mario's house since their mother died a few months ago. While Bertha is a spoiled bitch, Ale is a smart (but snobby) architect. She builds a secret tunnel between Mario's villa and the neighbouring house (headquarters, tunnel house, make-up house) which will make easier for Fausto to live two lives at the same time.

* An awesome and clever detective, Leonardo moves into the house where the Guilléns' live. They become friends and he develops a crush on Gabriela. To be honest, EVERYONE likes Gaby. David, Carlos, Leo and even JJ fall under her charms. Leo investigates after Adolfo's shady businesses. The fact that he's a cop makes Fausto very feel uncomfortable since he's a murder suspect.

* JJ hires Alejandra to reconstruct his house. His first goal was to get closer to the Genovéses (vengeanceee) but they fall in love. Hot sex scenes.

* When Mario finds out that his jealous and idiot son tries to fool Gabriela around (he thinks she's a golddigger and plans a fake wedding) he makes him marry her. Adolfo hires Roberto to kill Mario and he gets rid of the old man on the wedding's evening. However, "Mario" doesn't die because Fausto takes over his place. Adolfo and Roberto don't understand anything. After a while Rob finds out that Mario isn't Mario and he blackmails him.

* Gaby's and David's marriage is happy until Gaby finds out the nasty details of their civil wedding. She leaves David and doesn't want to forgive him.

* JJ hurts Alejandra's feelings when he asked how many men she slept with before and called her a descarada. Now his atoning for his stupidity and it seems she'll forgive him. He also screwed up his friendship with Elsa and Elsa has a boyfriend, a handsome and smart architect called Mauricio Medina. However, she stills has feelings for JJ. The little Caramelo and Asunción love her very much.

...

Oookay, what else...

* It was Adolfo, who killed Marta. He wanted her to smuggle diamonds but she screwed up his plan and became dangerous so he strangled her.

* Adolfo has a helpmate, a mysterious woman called Yolanda. They smuggle together, and so on. She was a dancer, too, and she was Marta's friend. However, when Adolfo killed Marta and made it look like Mario did it she set a trap to Santiago. Why? Because she loved Mario. So she sacrificed Santiago-Fausto, however, she helped him to flee.

* Adolfo never loved his son. It turns out Dolphie and Marta were lovers and Carlos's their son. His mother abandoned him when he was very young. When Yolanda realized it was Adolfo who killed Marta she obliged him to acknowledge his son in exchange of her silence. She loves Carlos very much and she's the only mother he ever knew.

* Dora gave a letter to Mario before he died in which she confessed she was David's mother and JJ's innocent, it was Carlos who killed the maid.

* JJ's, cellmate, Marcos escapes from prison. He visits his ex-girlfriend, Susana in Los Angeles. On the street a beggar sells him a pair of nice shoes he found in a dustbin. Yes, they're The Shoes. They go back to Mexico and sell a few diamonds. They also discover the make-up room in the tunnel house and the secret passage. Marcos gets back to prison soon and Susana becomes a maid in the Genovés house. She finds and steals Dora's letter.

* Bertha and Adolfo become close friends.

* Leo investigates after the smuggling business and tries to find the shoes and the photos Gaby and Julieta made in Los Angeles - they could prove Gaby wore the same shoes that Marcos found. Adolfo asks Bertha to steal those photos. But she keeps one of them... And it ends up in Susana's dirty hands.

What's the situation right now?

1. Adolfo knows how dangerous JJ is so he orders his hitman to kill him.
2. Gaby is angry at David, Ale is angry at JJ.
3. Susana has everything: the letter, the diamonds, the shoes and the photo. She sells the letter to Adolfo's associate called Javier Garnica. He's a gangster, too.
4. Fausto plays Mario. David, Leo, Alejandra, JJ and Abelardo know about the scam.
5. Leo's investigating after Adolfo. He also tries to prove JJ's innocence.
6. Roberto knows about the scam and the smuggling and he blackmails both Adolfo and Fausto. Susana is his main source of informations.
7. Carlos left his father's house and he's ready to atone for what he, Roberto and Adolfo did to JJ.
8. Gaby and Juli don't know their father's past. But they aren't stupid.
9. Dora's so afraid of Adolfo that she left Mexico City.

(Sorry for the typos and the lousy grammar.)

Karen- I commend you for trying to figure out what's going on and following this excellent novela. Please do stick with us! And comment! As you can see from Aribeth's summary, this is a mystery/thriller/romance with lots of layers and moving parts. And although we love our couples, there is so much else going on that the romances take a back seat most times, and we don't mind! Feel free to ask questions any time. We don't mind rehashing or explaining something.

I have asked this before, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what JJ has against Medina. Can anyone enlighten me? Is he just determoned to be a jerk to him?

His dislike against Medina is irrational, and it mostly comes from his strange jealousy. I don't agree with JJ and I think he acted like a jerk with Medina, but from his twisted, ungrateful, old-fashioned point of view he did have a few weak reasons to dislike him:

1. Medina wanted to buy JJ's house and Alejandra sent him there. By that time JJ was very suspcious at the Genovéses and their friends.
2. Medina and Elsa became friends after Carlos'd tried to hit on the girl (for informations). JJ hated Carlos and he thought the two rich playboys were cut from the same cloth. (And he conveniently forgot how much Medina had helped him.)
3. Medina threatened him with telling everything to Alejandra. He was right, but JJ was lingering between vengeance mode and his feelings for Ale.

I'm always so impressed with your opening paragraphs Vivi. Pow pow bam bam! effect. Very exciting way to begin. Good rhythm to the words. And a terrific picture of the guy. Don't know the character but what a shot!

Hope DC is not as cold as Columbus tonight. But if it is, hope you're home and cozy and warm. Happy Holidays.

Aribeth, wow, what a great summary/refresher course.

Karen, go to epi #51, part, I think using Jeri's links for every episode. You will see one of the hottest scenes around even with pixalating. There's another one but I haven't found it yet. And this is hard to believe but: 1. this novela has no filler 2. things are resolved quickly 3. most everyone has mental faculties and uses them 4. because there is no filler and things are resolved, the novela moves at warp speed. This is novela is a treat, one of the best, love it.

part 2

Judy- We're down in the mid-20s tonight and have been the last week or more. I hope you're warmer than that but I'm guessing not. :) I spent most of today indoors, because I will be spending all of tomorrow out and about to attend 3 parties, and to drop by my parents' house with a b-day cake for my nephew that I'm making tonight. So I backed out of the party I was to attend tonight. Tis the season!

I hope that you are happy and warm and starting the holidays off well. :)

Vivi, my guess is JJ's feelings toward Mauricio have something to do with the fact that JJ wanted to be Elsa's protector figure -- though not her lover -- and that Mauricio's education and polish make him feel inadequate. JJ first offered Elsa a job, though at the time he wasn't involved in the hotel and he really had no job to offer. Elsa was angry with JJ at that time and her response was sarcastic, something like "a job in what - your vengeance project?" Then she winds up taking a job with Mauricio. I think through gifting Elsa with money, a job, and his overbearing protection, JJ was trying to reverse the helplessness he felt in prison when he couldn't do anything for his ailing mother. Now, Elsa did take money from JJ to repay the loan she got from her slimy boss, but other than that she wouldn't let him do anything for her. JJ has the sense to know Mauricio is a straight-up guy as he testified on JJ's behalf to keep him out of jail on trumped-up charges, helped JJ deposit the gold bars, and let JJ out of the house sale, but I think all these good deeds on Mauricio's part also made JJ feel like a victim who needs to be helped (like he was in prison). To not feel this way, he has to irrationally channel anger onto Mauricio. That's my theory-in-progress. Limon is going to have to do some serious counsel to get JJ over this hump.

Hi, Karen. :-) Welcome aboard; I recap this byzantine thing twice a week, and I can't keep it straight myself.

Vivi, thanks for the smart, detailed recap. Many of your quips have been mentioned already, so I’ll congratulate you on, “looks like lots of commoners are getting uppity with King Adolfo today” YES, you nailed that scene! (.............I’m baking tonight too!)

Aribeth, I really don’t know what to say about your instantaneous and INCREDIBLE total LVO recap except that Einstein had NOTHING on you! Wow, Wow, Wow. JudyB are you still here?.....read Aribeth’s summary and stay with us....you are the Caray Caray QUEEN of love and forgiveness, this novela was written for you! Tape it and watch it the next day like I do!!! Welcome Karen!

A couple of things, it was a big faux pas on Ale’s part not to let JJ in on “the letter” and the information it contained. The contents of that letter would mean the world to JJ, she had to know that. I think her excuse was pretty lame, they weren’t speaking ?!? Also, we saw yet another uncomfortable conversation for JJ and Ale in the hospital. Their relationship at this point is purely physical, in no way is it a “meeting of the minds.” Also, why is JJ so adamant about not working with Mauricio? As Vivi said in the recap “QTF.” Niecie, you and Aribeth enumerated many of the weak reasons that JJ resents Mauricio, but I felt that his letter of a few days back cleared the decks on all that old stuff for a new beginning.

Dora, get your tail back to the Districto Federal, your SON is there! Your mother’s love should be stronger than fear for your own life, don’t be a LILLY LIVER. (Sorry gang, I’ve been holding in my annoyance at Dora for a while!)

Wow, Aribeth thanks for your fabulous newbie update. I'm copying it and printing it out; I don't think I've seen any TN so complicated and yet so intriguing!!

Vivi - I will definitely comment. I've been wanting to start watching and that episode just sucked me in. As GinCa noted, things move quickly. It sounds like a great TN(no filler, people who actually think and not react); it's too bad Uni gave it the midnight shift.

Jeri - thanks so much for your links to the show!! Glad to be viewing an EY TN w/you again. Did you finish DA?

Sandy thanks for the welcome.

Wow Vivi and Wow Aribeth, Vivi, your brilliant recap of this episode and Aribeth's lightning quick strikes of a complete synopsis of the entire TN so far have left me breathless with admiration. Go team LVO, GO GO!

I am so grateful for Jeri's YouTube links too so living the winter in Oaxaca didn't deprive me of the ongoings of this very stellar story. I really think that other than Alborada which is one of the best telenovelas ever and my maiden voyage into TNLandia, this one is a close match on so many levels: great acting, great plot and character development and your are so right, NO FILLER whatsoever.

I'm glad you like the summary. :) Karen, Judy we would be very happy if you joined us.

And although we love our couples, there is so much else going on that the romances take a back seat most times, and we don't mind!

True! :) All I can write about or beloved couples is: "They met - they fell in love/into the bed - they had fights - but I think they'll be happy."

Niecie:
Good points on JJ's mind.

Sandy:
But Alejandra didn't know about the letter until it was stolen. When it disappeared and they were digging up the house Fausto told her why it was so important to find it.

Cheryl- I love it that your are able to drop by regularly and keep track up us, even while wintering in Old Mexico. :)

Judy- When I was trying to choose a picture of Garnica, I could have chosen one when he was looking menacing or slimy. That's the way he looks most times. But he was having the best few days of his life, and the best moment by sticking it to Adolfo. I thought showing him laughing with glee best reflected how he felt this episode. If this was a good guy, you would look at that pic and say, that's a jolly fellow. But really, he's an evil, evil man.

Karen, indeed I did. I always get around to finishing telenovelas eventually, but I move in geologic time on occasion.

Exactly Vivi! I WAS thinking he was a jolly old soul. Sorry to hear he is not.

Sandy...I've found one TN is all I can handle right now. But I love the Queen of Forgiveness handle. Afraid I can also be a right B...h but at least I know how the power of forgiveness can heal...even if I don't always practice what I preach.

I drop by on Fridays because Vivi is a beloved ex-teammate. On Wednesdays, I drop by Pata's recap on Eva Luna for the same reason. But the only TN I watch is Llena, since I'm recapping. But miss YOU too!

JudyB, as you can imagine, with my newly practiced life streamling efforts, I really respect your decision. I've made the one novela pledge as well. I'll have a little confilct soon with the WL and Maite offering, but I'll figure something out somehow! We'll be on a novela together someday, until then, keep dropping in!

Vivi, you did a terrific job with this recap as usual! There is so much going on in this TN, so I'm grateful for all the details.

"Dora, get your tail back to the Districto Federal, your SON is there! Your mother’s love should be stronger than fear for your own life..." Sandy, I had to laugh when I read this. I've been wondering why Dora didn't have some "sixth sense" about her son's condition.

"We don't know who the father is but we wouldn't be surprised if David was Adolfo's son. I don't buy Adolfo as David's father. I think Dora would have avoided him when he came to Mario's house. I don't recall any scenes with Dora and Adolfo except for the wedding. She never gave any indication that Adolfo was anything at all to her. But maybe we now have another "suspect" - perhaps Garnica?

Oh and Welcome to the Insomniacs Club, Karen! ;)

Dora has encountered Adolfo at Mario's house several times and neither ever lets on.

I think he wouldn't remember her; but she probably well remembers him.

I do think he's David's father; Dora's love affair was with a bad man, and Adolfo is the only villain character of enough stature to be David's father, IMO.

It is odd that after all these years, he never married or even has a steady.

It would be truly weird if nasty Adolfo didn't mean to abandon Dora and has somehow reserved a feeling for her all this time.

David's a good candidate for his son; his personality is very strong, like Adolfo's.

And then there's the sibling-type rivalry some of us detect with Carlos.

Well, that's the case restated anyway. Anything else?

Thank you Vivi for your fabulous recap. You made me laugh with your descriptions of people.

Thank you Jeri for the links.

What's with JJ always finding something to get upset with Ale. It's almost as if he is finding excuses to be angry with her. What, does he think she is obliged to tell him everything. Why should she, they're not even 'officially' a couple, just lovers. She is okay to have around when he gets frisky, but otherwise he treats her like dirt. I think Asuncion as his friend should bang JJ over the head with a frypan to put some sense into him.

I have been trying to work out why JJ is not sympathetic toward Mauricio and for the life of me I just can't figure it out. Mauricio has always been so helpful and friendly toward JJ, never hostile. I don't even think it's about Elsa, like I used to.

I was happy to see Mauricio and Elsa both confirm to each other that Ale and JJ are just friends.

I agree with everyone Leo's daughter is a chip off the old block. Two detectives in one family, lol. I can see her following her father's career in the future. It was also nice to see Leo affectionate towards Juli
for once.

Margaret

Forgot to add. I think once Dora finds out David is seriously injured in hospital she will rush to his side. This will hopefully save JJ lots of money that he would have to have paid to Garnica.

Margaret

Margaret- I was happy to see the Elsa and Mauricio conversation too. I still think Elsa has a long way to go before her heart is free of JJ and she can give her heart completely to Mauricio. But what I liked most about that little conversation was Mauricio. He was obviously bringing up a sensitive subject for both of them. (This can't be comfortable or easy for him either.) But when he brought up that she must be worried about JJ, he didn't say it in a sarcastic/mean/sneaky way. JJ would have been totally sarcastic about it, if the shoe was on the other foot. But you could also see him breathe a huge sigh of relief when she said her concern for JJ was the concern of one friend for another, nothing more.

I wonder when Gabi will remember where she's seen Felix before (at the Avila beach house), and what she will do with that info once she does remember. Will she confront Carlos and/or Adolfo? That could be dangerous if she confronts Adolfo, but I could see her being ticked enough to do it.

I'm thinking the main reason they made an excuse to force a fake eye on Félix is so Gabriela wouldn't recognize him without the patch.

But she's only going to see him in pictures now -- unless they somehow get her to I.D. the body, which seems a long shot. But who knows.

Just hanging around waiting for midnight

Vivi--as always, a masterful and fun recap.

Slightly OT--Watching Querida Enemiga from the beginning (I came into it about halfway through) I suddenly heard the voice of Fausto/Santiago. Yep, sure enough, Hector Ortega plays Alonso's (Gabriel Soto's character)dad.

I'm also wondering if or when Gabi is going to remember where she saw Felix. It'll be important or they wouldn't have had her mention it. I think she will more likely go to Leo with the information.

"The beach house" is probably still a sore subject with David--although he's in no position to dispute anything right now, given that he's sedated and in a coma. His pecado was much worse than Gabi's.

Although Gabi is the most uninformed one on Team Gabi, after David's shooting, she's got to be aware of how dangerous Adolfo is.

So, Bertha has gone back to the dark side. Is it pretense or have her fears of him evaporated--or was her move back into the house a ruse to keep Adolfo informed in the first place.

Airbeth--Loved your summary and the Where are We Now list.

Vivi--What an observant eye. All the main characters in the same episode, less Mina (maybe she was sick that day). Pretty good.

I can't fathom JJ's irrational feelings for Medina either, unless something was cut out of the final version that we don't know about. The last time we saw them together was at the birthday party and although Elsa left in a huff, I thought the conversation between the two men went pretty well. I'll have to rewatch that part to see.

Garnica's appearance was quite sudden, as though they needed someone else to tie certain characters together. We have to take it on faith that the project itself is on the up-and-up, since Medina is involved. And, it's already under construction? And Garnica needs more investors? And they need to go see the site? Did the writers do any research on major project development before putting this in? They've done much better with smuggling and police work.

JJ's radar should have gone up right away--instead of giving Garnica a pass with the vague answer about it being his business to know all about JJ when he was asked how did he know where he lived.

Why aren't they meeting in an office to discuss investment opportunities. Oh, I forgot, this is a telenovela.
Newbie-One-Kanobe

Aribeth and Margaret, on Ale telling JJ about the contents of a letter that exonerates him from a false criminal charge that caused him to go to prison and presently live his life under conditional parole, I fall into the camp, (it might be a lonely camp too!) that she had an obligation give him this information. If there isn’t a legal obligation to help in a criminal matter so important, to me it seems like a moral obligation at least. By the way, he was a HUGE client of hers, paying up front, etc. and could be again, she needs to think about that. When JJ confronted her about this info, her reason was that they “weren’t speaking.” Actually they were speaking, it was the day that they had the argument about being “frisky” with Caramelo around. Margaret, I think that both JJ and Ale are mean to each other, maybe as you pointed out, he more than she, but nonetheless, they don’t get along as they should to be novios. Sometimes she seems to be on a high horse and other times he seems to be emotionally rough with her. They need to have ONE good, light hearted, loving conversation and then we’ll all feel better about their relationship!!!

I think he wouldn't remember her; but she probably well remembers him.

---------------------------

Adolfo didn't even remember what the mother of his child (Marta) looked like, even though he's been chasing down Marta's look alike daughter (Marta Jr./Gabi) for diamonds, so it wouldn't surprise me if Adolfo didn't remember Dora if he and Dora had been an item back in the day.

Adolfo wouldn't even remember what Carlos looked like if Yolanda weren't there to remind him. He's the type of person that once he doesn't have use for you anymore, you don't exist.

Ok, for a schedule update:

This week we have two music programs and the pope pre-empting us.

Next week it's just a new-year's celebration.

So this week: Monday and Tuesday only

Next week: Monday through Thursday

Sandy, read your comments regarding Ale and JJ with interest. Okay, maybe Ale should have told JJ because it was the right thing to do. But didn't Santiago/Fausto also know? He could also have told JJ when he was spilling the beans on everything else.

Maybe it's just JJ, he rubs me the wrong way most times with his almost 'split personality' attitude towards Ale. He seems to expect and want too much from his 'woman/women', total loyalty and subservience to him.

But I do agree with you:
"They need to have ONE good, light hearted, loving conversation and then we’ll all feel better about their relationship!!!"

Margaret

Aribeth, I posted a comment on Thursday's recap.

I try to get an hours sleep before this starts but on Friday, I set my alarm for a.m. and missed this entirely! Of all episodes to miss.

Vivi, I'd say this was astonishing but it wouldn't be true. Wonderful yes, but nothing less than we've come to expect from you. Masterful and intriguing. Loved the title and pcitures. I hung on your every word, waiting for what you'd report next. Everyone seems to have noted all of your wonderful comments so I'll just say a heartfelt thank you.

Diana

JJ's relationship with "his women" is interesting. He loves (like a brother) Elsa, but fights and butts heads with her constantly. He is falling in love with Ale, and fights with her constantly.

He likes and has a crush on Gabi, and they get along beautifully. The two of them share confidences, talk about their feelings/hopes/aspirations, laugh together, and even flirt a little. Why/how does he get on so well with Gabi and not with Elsa and Ale? I think Ale noticed that in the hospital too.

"But you could also see him breathe a huge sigh of relief when she said her concern for JJ was the concern of one friend for another, nothing more."

Vivi, he was so happy with what she said regarding JJ, and he gave her such a beautiful smile. I really like that Mauricio is so gentle and understanding with Elsa and is giving her time to totally get over JJ before he takes their relationship to the next level. What a man, lol.

Margaret

I think Gabriela was the one Juan José really wanted, but she was already taken. He saw her first and really adores her, is my guess. He was in heaven with that little day-in-the-park dream.

It's a feature of telenovelas that everybody must be in love with the protagonists. They really went overboard with Gabriela, though.

Jeri- Have you seen Mi Pecado? That's overboard. :)

I don't really think that here. JJ had a crush on Gabi because she's hot and he just got out of prison when they met. But he had that same kind of initial attraction to Ale, which he then got the chance to act on.

But he never has the same kind of heart to heart conversations with Ale as he does with Gabi. And it's not like he's pining for Gabi (like Leo is). He flirts with her, but innocently, and he knows she's taken. It's not like he's trying to step into David's territory like Leo. He knows Gabi and David are in love and accepts that.

And I wouldn't describe what Carlos feels for her as love either. It was all about goading David/beating David. He never really gave/gives Gabi much thought outside of the context of competing with David.

Vivi, JJ treats Gabi with a kind of reverence, like she is a goddess. He is different with her I think, because she is married therefore off limits to him, and this allows him to be his 'sweet puppy dog self' with her and to be just friends.

If he was romantically involved with her then he wouldn't be treating her any different from Elsa or Ale, imo.

Margaret

There's plenty of competition for worst fawning over protagonists, but this one for Gabriela is in the running. Admittedly, she is gorgeous.

If Juan José weren't sure Gabriela loves David, he'd be interested in her. It's not David that keeps him out; it's Gabriela's preference for David.

Juan José never had a blissful dream about Alejandra; I wouldn't agree he reacted the same with her. I enjoy them as a couple, but I just have to trust they like each other. I don't know why.

Margaret, I agree with your comment on Fausto, he too has been falsely accused of murder, he really likes JJ and he didn't do anything either. Good point!

Vivi, you're right, JJ's relationship with "his women" is interesting. He really keep us guessing doesn't he? He is just wonderful with Limon and Caramelo, I've grown to like him more just because of that, but then there is Ale and Elsa! Margaret's expression, "split-personality" describes it well!!

During Carlos's conversation with Yolanda (Wed?), when discussing his competition with David, he made a point of stressing his loss of Gabriela was particularly painful; she was different.

Jeri, JJ didn't have a G-rated blissful dream about Ale as he did with Gabi, but according to what he said to Ale (and I believed him he thought about Ale day and night.

I want to see JJ and Ale have a sweet heart-to-heart conversation too. I believe that's what they were planning to do before the shooting. JJ had stressed to a wary Ale that their date would be "just dinner" (implying "no sex").

If I'm not mistaken, when Ale said she didn't tell him about the letter because of his insult, she did admit that it was a stupid/foolish thing for her to do. I like her honesty with him. And honestly she'd just found out about the letter and knew Fausto/Santiago were trying to hunt it down. It's not like she had it and deliberately withheld it from him.

I meant Fausto and Abelardo were hunting down the letter.

Niecie- You're right that JJ and Ale were supposed to have just a normal date and a talk that evening. No sex. So they are moving closer to the kind of relationship we are hoping they had. Hopefully they'll get back on track very soon.

And I am also sure he's had many dreams and fantasies about Ale, that are not like the G rated fare he imagined with Gabi when he was fresh from prison. ;-)

Newbie:
Yep, sure enough, Hector Ortega plays Alonso's (Gabriel Soto's character)dad.

Wow! Thank you for the informations! I knew Hector had a role in Querida enemiga but I had no idea he played Gabriel's father. My friends say QE is a gem, too, I plan to watch it... someday.

Thanks for the interesting comments, it was a pleasure to read them.

Sandy:
If there isn’t a legal obligation to help in a criminal matter so important, to me it seems like a moral obligation at least.

She should've told him about the letter as soon as possible, because it would've given him hope and he could've used his money to find Dora. But I'm sure she didn't want to hurt him and maybe she wanted to wait until they find the letter/Dora.
And it would've been an awkward conversation anyway.

Ale: Hi.
JJ: Hi.
Ale: You know, there's a letter that could prove your innocence. But...
JJ: What? Really? Thanks to Heaven! And to you, my angel!
Ale: ... it's lost. And Dora has disappeared, too, so you'll never be able to clear your name. Sorry, pal.
JJ: Oh, sh*t.
Ale: I didn't mean to torture you by raising and then killing your hopes.
JJ: But you did.
Ale: Oh, great. There's a glitch in the Matrix, I have a deja vu.

Aribeth, LOL!

You know, JJ and Ale's relationship is not so unusual for the real world, lots of people have a rough start and some men or women might be interested in a couple of people at the same time at the beginning of a relationship before things settle down. Also, nowadays, the physical might come before the mental, so on and so forth. The odd thing about JJ and Ale is that we are just not used to seeing a galan act like he does. The galan usually locks onto his gal like a laser and besides an occasional dalliance with a hussy, (due to a misunderstanding of course!) we always know that he loves his novia best of all, no doubt about it! JJ is just a little different from what I’m used to.

... Though I always found awkward that she wasn't sure about his innocence. Elsa also questioned his word when he was accused with rape again. I don't understand these women.
- Elsita knows JJ and she's pining for him for ages but she let Carlos brainwash her and asks him if he really didn't hurt the maid/Scum Baugette. (It happened much before JJ's first jealous tantrum.)
- Alejandra is sleeping with him and says she loves him but she can't open her big mouth and defend him when Leo/Fausto asks if she believes in his innocence. Maybe she wasn't sure he told her the whole truth about Isabel. However, it's very dangerous to sleep with a potential sexual criminal.

Aribeth, too funny!

Aribeth good points on both Ale and Elsa.

Juan José's day-in-the-park dream was about love. He wholly adored Gabriela from the start.

Nobody would be happier than I to see him feel that way about Alejandra. I like her; I identify more with her than Gabriela.

I like her; I identify more with her than Gabriela.

Same here. I love both ladies, but while Gabriela is doomed to be a typical telenovela heroine (though she's smarter and more down-to-earth than others), Alejandra is a real woman from the 21th century with tons of believeable flaws and virtues.

Re: Bertha(whom I cannot stand) .. as for going with Adolfo to the
hospital, my take on that is that
she was trying to play it cool with
him. She left the hotel because she began to realize that he was dangerous and became afraid of him; Ale had told her earlier that he was Mafioso. When he showed up at the Genovés manor, she didn't look too thrilled, but she wanted to be courteous so as not to arouse suspicion, and she most likely thought that she should show up at the hospital anyway, and she might as well go with him.
I don't think she was happy about going with him but couldn't avoid it.
