La Verdad Oculta #077: Adolfo don't need no steenking cuff link now -- and Susana, The English Patient
After Dora exits David informs Santiago that David, with power of attorney, will sign the end contract, avoiding Santiago forging Mario's signature. Santiago takes a call from Leonardo, who mysteriously plans to meet him at Mario's the next day for questioning.
In Puerto Vallarta, Mauricio is just asking Garnica's whereabouts of Zaida, when she takes a call from Adolfo who cautions her she sounds upset and must buck up or look suspicious. Since Juan José is returning to the D.F., Adolfo allows Zaida to come home, too.
Juan José is astounded to hear on the phone from Asunción they learned the chopper belonged to Garnica, and he relates Garnica maintains he just sold it. Then still upset Zaida appears there also, bidding Juan José goodbye after claiming to not locate Garnica. Juan José even asks Zaida if she needs a doctor.
Back in the D.F., Adolfo takes Carlos's trefoil ring to his favorite semi-legit jeweler to have it copied; it doesn't have to pass expert muster, though, because no expert will look at it, he claims. From the Sagittarius, Carlos thrills Bertha again over the phone in her bedroom with some sexy murmurs.
When she admits she really was surprised at him, he coolly explains that's what happens with an expert in charge. And when this makes her laugh and threaten to rush over there, he's more than willing. She observes Adolfo will fire him from the Sagittarius again, but Carlos is gallantly prepared to lose the entire zodiac for her, he says.
Downstairs in the condo some moments later, Bertha makes a visiting friend green with envy regaling her with Bertha's good fortune, her sugar daddy, her expensive car -- and guess what? The son, Carlos, just made a play for her! What a mess that could be, but a delicious mess.
Back in Puerto Vallarta, Juan José and Alejandra are just poking around Garnica's room, finding his open briefcase, when they jump at the maid's entrance and decide instead to tell the police about it. Back at home, Asunción lets a social worker, Ofelia Cantú, into the house to talk about adopting Caramelo.
And it's very bad news; the two men aren't sufficient legal parents, and social services is going to take Caramelo away. While the woman is still there, Asunción terrifies Juan José on the phone, with her explaining the legal documents they need -- especially proof they are not ex-convicts!
Juan José hangs up, absolutely thunderstruck, so that Alejandra can't calm him down. More than ever he realizes the crushing need to find that letter! He must prove his innocence now -- in order not to lose Caramelo!
Back at Mario's, David asks Gabriela to get Leonardo to accompany them to the end-contract signing; they don't have the cuff link to threaten Adolfo with any more. He doesn't know that, they say, but hopefully the policeman's presence will unnerve him enough to sign before he realizes it.
When Julieta arrives, Abelardo insists Dora not handle servant's duties any more and goes to let her in. Today Julieta remembers where she left her keys before the robbery and dismays Gabriela with news that it was at Roberto's. Santiago is really upset to hear this development from Gabriela over the phone.
At Leonardo's he has his sling off, though his arm is still stiff. When Paula asks why he's looking so happy, he explains his arm is better, he can go back to work, he loves her a lot -- and for something that he can't tell her about. Leonardo has to tickle Paula into submission to stop her wheedling the secret out of him.
In a D.F. hospital, two doctors discuss a mysterious comatose patient, of whom no one has asked nor did they find any information: only a pair of shoes, clothing and a picture of an unidentified woman. If she doesn't awaken soon, it may mean brain damage, they say.
At home at the condo, Adolfo feels downright jolly as he relates developments to Yolanda. In fact, if things go well, he may return Carlos's ring to him, he says, making Yolanda very happy. She's about to rhapsodize into a sentimental father-and-son scenario, when that's going too far for Adolfo; and he steps on that.
Adolfo charges Yolanda with finding Susana by going by Mario's and talking to Gabriela about their former maid. They have to find the shoes and photograph! In Puerto Vallarta, Elsa almost makes Caramelo throw out the famous letter with the trash; but Caramelo gets to keep it because Chicles gave it to her.
In Mario's office, Santiago informs David that Julieta lost her keys in Roberto's condo; and they deduce what happened and decide to contact Roberto. It's crucial Roberto doesn't tell Adolfo he suspects someone is posing as Mario. They just have to make it to the signing first.
Juan José & Co. return home from the beach in a flourish; and Alejandra assures Asunción and Juan José that a Mr. Alonso she knows, a family practice lawyer, can help them. In their absence, Asuncion brought Chicle's mother to the house to work for them; and she is very grateful for all they do for him.
Meanwhile across the way, Julieta and Gabriela up in her suite put their heads together and note a load of inconsistencies in their understanding of the family incidents -- and are determined to make Santiago come clean and spill everything.
Back at Juan José's, when Mina explains further how she discovered Garnica's helicopter through a very helpful import company contact, she becomes flushed and flustered, as he plants two big grateful kisses on her face. After her hasty escape, Juan José tells Asunción he intends to inform Leonardo about the chopper.
Napping David dreams a sweet story, inspired by his beautiful wife's intelligence and determination, where she is so capable that she can even make him rise from his wheel chair and dance with her. In an ethereal violet haze, David romances her through the steps -- before awakening to smiling Gabriela, full of questions about her hotel business studies for her own personal professor.
Later alone in Mario's bedroom, David is just hanging up after leaving a message on Roberto's voice mail, when "Mario" enters through the tunnel door. David declares he thinks Santiago should tell the girls everything; and if he doesn't, he says, horrifying Santiago -- David will tell them himself!

I enjoy how the children are playing with the letter the way real children would play with something having no idea the treasure they have stumbled upon.
I still can't believe Garnica's killer was David/Mario's lead bodyguard. And didn't he say, he had experience killing people. Oh, my!
Do any of the good guys know that Roberto killed Mario? I believe Roberto was blackmailing Fausto but do they know what he did?
I wonder how it's going to end for Berta. She's playing a dangerous game and I don't if she can walk away from this all in one piece.
"Ethereal violet haze" may be one of my all time favorite phrases. Simply lovely. I also enjoyed "sexy murmers" and "personal professor". The recap was wonderful.
Juan and Asunción's pain over the thought of losing Caramelo was palpable. The kids need to stop dithering with that letter and present it to someone quickly! The adults must ban together to work out whatever scenario will keep Caramelo with Asunción. Ack.
Well, Susana is down but hopefully not out. Will someone recognize Gabi's picture so that someone can come to her aid?
In almost any other novela I can think of the imaginary dance sequence between David and Gabi would have looked corny. Here, I found myself smiling in delight.
How David has grown! I like his commanding the situation - tell them or I will!
Karen, I'm hazarding a guess here but I think they are suspicious that Roberto might have been involved in Mario's death, but he covered his tracks by renting the truck. I think they lack the proof as he's not in custody.
Thanks again Jeri!
Diana
You had so many great lines in this recap, like the ones Diana mentioned. I also enjoyed: "Carlos is gallantly prepared to lose the entire zodiac for her". LOL!
I agree that Bertha is playing a very dangerous game, and both father and son seem to really like her. But once again, the thrill of it all has her on a high.
I thought David's dream was really sweet. And then when Gabi came to sit with him in the bed he looked at her and stroked her arm with so much love and longing. I also liked how Juli greeted him with a kiss and a little flower which he then gave to Gabi. It was a nice little detail.
The writers are determined to drive us bonkers teasing us with that letter. Last night it looked like Mauricio was about to get it, but he just handed it right to Caramelo without looking at it. Don't any of these adults know they need to be nosy and invade children's privacy? :)
Zaida was funny. She was a jumpy mess. She better pull it together before she sees Adolfo again.
Well, we knew they were setting us up for a final decision about Caramelo's legal family status, and here it is. (The social worker was played by one of the three nasty gossip ladies in STUD. We've already seen one of them in the form of the Guillen landlady. I wonder if the other one will pop up?) The social worker said that Elsa was the one who registered her at school, and she's registered as Caramelo Victoria. So, already totally confusing. Neither Limon nor JJ can present the required documents, and they have to meet the social worker tomorrow. That's not much time to figure something out. Poor Limon and JJ were destroyed. I like how Ale took a moment to just hold and comfort JJ, before getting down to the business of arranging their departure.
I found this on Univision's forum:
RATING USA LUNES 03/ENERO/2011
(title - ratings - thousand viewers)
1. TRIUNFO DEL AMOR - 18.9 - 5,537
2. EVA LUNA - 16.7 - 3.818
3. LLENA DE AMOR - 14.6 - 2,580
4. MAR DE AMOR - 6.6 - 1,650

9. ATREVETE A SONAR - 5.1 - 1,028
10. INDIA - 4.7 - 876
11. UN SUEÑO LLAMADO SALSA - 2.6 - 657
I hope it's true because these are very good numbers! :)
Also, even though Roberto de-wigged Santiago, he has no idea who that imposter was. He's never seen the girls' father. Adolfo sent him to get a photo of the girls' father last week or so, but Carlos scared him off in the parking lot inadvertently by informing him the cop lived there, too.
Diana, thank you. :-) Gotta say, fortunately, I have had a dream or two like David's, so I was able to describe it, LOL. Also, I think I never considered the men would be able to keep Caramelo. To my mind that was clearly destined for Mauricio and Elsa when Mauricio's neice showed up as a possible sister for her.
Vivi, Bertha's not the only one surprised at Carlos, LOL. I am pleasantly surprised at him; I like the character and like that he's not a dolt who just helps Roberto chase hotel maids down the corridor. It seems he feels guilty about that night and is not really that guy.
Gabe and Galilea have terrific chemistry; I noticed his touching her arm, too. Wow, it's nice. I was also surprised Zaida was such a mess. The other day Garnica reminded her he got her out of prison to work with him, so she should be hardened.
Aribeth, thank you for being so diligent about looking up ratings; I am really interested, if you are able to find any. Those would be excellent ratings, I agree.
How do you all picture that going down? Is Adolfo just going to wear it or what...
He definitely will not sign the contract early now that he knows from Bertha that the doctor said "Mario" has a terminal brain tumor.
It might be unpleasant seeing her in a social services facility; but on the other hand, we know she'll make the best of it.
I hope we don't get to see a scene where Caramelo is forcibly taken away from her 'family'. That would be so sad. JJ and Ale should somehow force Dora to tell what she knows instead of trying to locate the letter. No time for that now with Caramelo's future at stake.
Margaret
Vivi - LOL and ITA regarding adults being noisy about the letter. Especially since Elsa and Mauricio saw the writing (come on people those aren't large block letters that children write; this was written by an adult).
I enjoyed the dance sequence too :)
The problem with JJ's situation is that even if Dora came forward today and told the police what she saw, I don't think his record would be cleared immediately. The Caramelo situation needs a more immediate solution if they don't want social services to take her away. They need to start working with this family lawyer, asap.
When will someone find that letter in Caramelo's backpack especially in light with the news that JJ and Asunción could loose custody of her.
I loved David's fantasy. It was great and magical.
Zaida is a nervous wreck. I think it's a matter of time before she cracks.
Will Fausto finally tell his daughters the whole story? and what does Leo want to talk to Fausto about privately?
Thanks again for a terrific recap.
What I loved:
*All of Jeri's beautiful descriptions and precise analysis.
*Dora's good morning kiss to David.
*Limón's color coordinated apron
and his dapper white hat.
* Chicle's mother entering the picture and the way she immediately
took charge of his behavior.
*Loved the dance - nice to indulge in a romantic moment between G and D.
* How Ale responded to JJ's desperation re Caramelo; if she
had not fully realized before how important la niña is to him, she
certainly knows now.
.................................
Don Fausto has been transitioning
frequently between houses and characters.
It would be nice to have a beautiful year-round compound for all the families, similar to the Kennedy's summer place in Hyannisport, MA. There needs to be a house for Elsa and Mauricio and one for Julieta and Leonardo. Paulita would be a nice big cousin, role model for
Caramelo. Alejandra works fast;
she can build a tunnel in a couple of weeks; connect them all up with tunnels if necessary for inclement weather. One big happy family for Caramelo - once a few major problems are resolved.
Edgar's days are numbered if anything turns up fishy with the dumping of Garnica. He's placed any possible blame on Zaida, but it might not work. ¿Quién sabe?
Muchas gracias de nuevo, Jeri.
_ __________
Since we haven't been left hanging too long with most plot points, the Garnica situation was resolved quickly, maybe the torture with the unread letter will end soon. Of course, the person to find it might be our resident nonreader, Asuncion. Hopefully, he'll ask J J to have a look at it.
The galans are galan-worthy. David has grown and matured, Mauricio remains a prince charming and J J seems to be using his thinking skills now in taking the advice to contact the police about the blackmail. (It's a little late but then he doesn't know Garnica is in the deep blue sea.) Even sidekick, Asuncion, is interested in self improvement.
LOL with Zaida. Even though she is a career smuggler, she never crossed the line personally, so she is in shock. She does do a nice imitation of a drug addict.
So will Santiago spill all the beans to his girls in tonight's episode?
GinCA
Floridia, Asunción did look great, didn't he? That stupid bottle gag; only he could pull that off.
Many thanks to everybody for the wonderful kind words and feedback. It's why we do it, as you know. :-)
Does anyone else think Adolfo will order Edgar to kill Zaida? I think her days are numbered. Though Garnica's gone, she won't be able to produce the letter for Adolfo so she failed in her mission.
I loved the dance sequence too, it was wonderfully romantic.
Well, just as I criticized Ale yesterday, I have to praise her today for thinking of the best plan possible in a custody situation....hire a lawyer! I feel that she now realizes that JJ, Limon and Caramelo come in one big bubble wrapped package, If you take one, the rest come too. This custody predicament is such a realistic one, and adding the fact that this is a novela and not real life, it is hard to figure out the permanent outcome. Would the writers take Caramelo away from Limon who DID save her from trash bin? Yet, they have added a “real” family in the form of Elsa and Mauricio who are more conventional. They must have some compromise in mind. We all seem to have difffering viewpoints, but we're all very invested in the outcome.
Vivi, I did notice “our” Mauricio in Triunfo last night and know I’ve seen him in promos for other novelas seemingly playing minor roles. Too bad he couldn’t parlay his part in this novela which premiered in 2006 into something bigger, viewerville loves him. I looked for his name in the LVO Wiki cast listing and his character isn’t even listed, neither in the ESMAS Perfiles. I’m guessing that we have talked as much about him as JJ or David, go figure.

I gave up on Mar de amor after a few weeks but I heard Arturo's character was popular. He and Mariana Seoane played a badass antagonist-but-not-that-evil couple. :)
Gaaaawd, that was hilarious!!! Mean yet awesome and elegant. No wonder why was Oriana so popular. Thank you for the video.
Arturo has more than one face, after CCEA and MDA I would've never guessed he was able to play a nice, educated and calm architect.
Here's a fanvideo from MDA - oh, that body.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G8x0aufI8_A
*mental note: I'll watch Amor gitano with Mau Islas and Mariana*
After reading your comment about not finding Arturo Carmona in the cast list, I looked up his name alone; there are several pictures of him on the web. When I saw the one with the spiked hair, I suddenly realized that he played the part of Armador in Cuidado.(I should have known; everyone else probably knows this already and may have mentioned it earlier.) He had a very large role in that novela, and I disliked him intensely...excellent acting in
very different roles.
So glad to hear that Arturo has found some success after LVO. Maybe like Gabriel Soto, we'll see him in a really strong lead galan role in a "blockbuster" novela soon, I think he can handle it!
I'm having a hard time following this story, maybe next week I'll keep up better with the comments.
I'm sad JJ won't keep his beach look in DF. EY has an odd head shape and the way his hair is naturally fits him much better than the gel he uses.
