La Verdad Oculta EP76 01/05/2011 - An engagement, a kiss, a jacuzzi and a very bad karma
*Fausto and Gabriela visit Julieta, who hasn’t talked with him since the shocking revelation about their past. The weeping father and daughters hug each other.
*Adolfo finds hung-over Bertha in the hall and realizes that Daddy’s little princess wasn’t sleeping in the condo. She says she spent the night with a friend of hers and reproaches him for lying her about Carlos’s so-called smuggling businesses.
* The Faidellas show up at Guilléns’ doorstep again to invite depressed Julieta to watch a movie together. While the girls are in Paulita’s bedroom Ramón tells Leonardo they managed to trace the phone calls Marcos got in the prison, they’re from an apartment that was rented by Susana Gómez.
*In the seaside hotel Alejandra and Juan José practice their own NC-17 rated version of The Blue Lagoon in a jacuzzi. Sizzling hot.
*After Paula falls asleep Julieta joins Leonardo in the living room. Leo, who already noticed her sadness, asks her if there’s something weighing on her mind. He learns Julieta knows about Fausto’s past and she finds her father’s sufferings terrible. Don’t cry, they know who the real culprit is and they’ll prove Fausto’s innocence. Leo’s comforting words and caresses sweep Julieta off of her feet. They slowly near to each other and then… *Viewerville: thumbs up*
* The members of The Rich Club have an uncomfortable dinner together, where Mauricio and Alejandra start a professional debate on the length of the construction. Medina thinks he’ll need at least two months but Ale says she finished JJ’s house in a month and she had less workers than Medina. JJ defends his girlfriend’s opinion, Medina fumes and Elsa has the expression of the deer in the headlights. Garnica settles the dispute and tells them his newest idea: it’d be great to have an own airport! Oh, it’s a shame that he’s just sold his helicopter. What, Garnica did have a helicopter?! Yes, but he sold it 3 weeks ago. JJ is very interested in the plane and asks Garnica about its details. And tell me, Zoyla… Zaida! Sorry, Zaida. Do you really want to invest your 10 millions into this project? Garnica looks puzzled. What the hell are these two talking about?
*Bertha visits Mario’s doctor and learns her uncle has brain tumor.
* After the dinner Garnica tells Alejandra he wouldn’t mind having her participating in his seaside project. However, Ale and JJ agree they don’t trust him a bit. Back in his room Garnica finally opens his suitcase and finds the complete mess inside it. Where’s the letter? Where. Is. The. Letter?! He calls Zaida to tell her they have to meet in 10 minutes and before leaving he picks his gun up. I have a bad feeling about this. In her room Elsa puts Caramelo’s things, including a letter into the little girl’s backpack.
*In the tunnel house Fausto asks Abelardo if he should tell Gaby he isn’t her father. Yes, he should. But then she would find out what kind of woman her mother was. Come on, they could tell her Marta was in love with Mario, and she would understand that. In their bedroom Gaby asks David to teach him about hotels and business.
*Garnica and Zaida meet at the port. He points his gun at her and demands to where the letter is. What letter? She swears she doesn’t know anything… Talk or I’ll kill you! BANG! Édgar saves Zaida by knocking Garnica out. He’s still alive and they’ll get rid of him, says Édgar. He needs Zaida’s help. She protests but he roars at the shocked woman: OBEY! They sail deep in the ocean and throw growling, agonizing Garnica into the water. When they get back to the hotel Édgar reports to Adolfo that Garnica became fish food. Then he asks Zaida about the famous letter and when she cries and swears she has never seen it he tries to calm her down.
* In the bedroom Juan José and Alejandra talk about Garnica’s mysterious helicopter and finally JJ listens to common sense and he’s ready to tell everything to the police. And what about Zaida? Who is she? Ale doesn’t like her and not because of jealousy.
*Bertha tells Adolfo about Mario’s sickness, his strange attitude towards his doctor and treatments. Mario should be dying in Switzerland. Adolfo decides to give her a car for her services and he is very amused at her enthusiasm about the gift.
*In a well-orchestrated, romantic seaside dinner Elsa honestly tells Mauricio she managed to forget Juan José and now she loves him – and our favourite architect asks her to be his wife. Fireworks, beautiful music, happiness.
*Asunción has an awful nightmare about being on the streets with Caramelo again.Next morning Zaida and Édgar, the two nervous accomplices talk about what to do next. He’s going back to Mexico City, bye. In the meantime Caramelo asks Elsa if she’s seen her letter. It’s in her backpack. After the kids leave Mauricio asks Elsa if she wants to adopt Caramelo.
*Worried JJ and Alejandra knock on Garnica’s door but there’s no response. When Zaida shows up they ask the anxious woman to tell the lawyer they have to go back to Mexico.
* In the Ávila condo Édgar tells Adolfo he took care of Garnica’s cadaver and he left no traces. Dolphie is very content and plans to give him another job, but if he fails he’ll kill him. *Viewerville: yawn, yeah, Roberto is totally dead after failing at least ten times* Don’t worry, boss, he won’t fail. However, that old hag Zaida may be dangerous. After Édgar leaves Adolfo starts to speculate about his little business with the Genovéses: he should get rid of dying Mario before the contract expires.

What an episode! What a title!
I can't wait to read what you have to say Aribeth. Thrilled at the engagement, shocked at the surprising murder and anxious to see what the jist of the important conversations were.
OT, Osvaldo Rios who played EY's father in CS is steaming up the screen (well, at least my screen) in Triunfo. We were already treated to a hot shower scene in the first episode. Levy is hot but Osvaldo's hotter. Age before beauty not necessarily true in this case.
Oh, also, our Carlos is also in Triunfo. Except for his trademark eyebrows, he's barely recognizable with very dark hair and an unbecoming Paul McCartney haircut. But, it looks as though he's a good guy in this.

Is it just me or Adolfo and Bertha really have nice chemistry? Since he's a cold-hearted sociopath he would kill her in a heartbeat if he knew she'd betrayed him, but when they are together there's joy in his eyes. He likes her.
The jacuzzi and the bedroom scene. OMG.
David was so happy about Gaby's wish to teach her about his job. At last he doesn't feel useless.
Édgar is a brute. Yuck, the murder scene was awful, Garnica suffered. However, the original title that I invented for the episode was "You deserved it".
The dinner scene was beautiful. Elsa is still confused and I don't believe she and Mauricio feel the exactly same way, but at least she's trying to start a new life.
I didn't like at all when Mauricio asked Elsa about adopting Caramelo. The girls love each other much and Elsa has a wonderful sense for children, but hey, Mr. Hottietect, you seem to forget she already has a family (Asunción and JJ) who treat her well. Maybe you should ask them first. She needs a mother but if JJ and Ale get married and JJ manage to prove his innocence then I don't see why should she live with Mau and Elsa instead of Asunción, JJ and Ale. Or why would be Alejandra worse mother than Elsa.

Mr Romantic Mauricio really went the whole hog with proposing to Elsa. Romantic dinner, ring in the clam and fireworks. Wow. So glad Elsa accepted.
JJ and Ale are really going at it like rabbits. My goodness. They sure are making the most of their time at the beach.

I didn't mind the idea Mau had about adopting Caramelo. She needs some sort of legal status and right now she doesn't have any. They got fake papers to enroll her in school. That won't do her any good in the long run. But we do have a problem here of too many options- two couples and one "uncle" who has raised her all her life. But Limon would not be considered a viable candidate for adopting her (single, formerly homeless, illiterate, older man). It won't be an easy decision/process.
Mau didn't waste any time when Elsa told him she loves him too. LOL! Good for him.
Well, the other day I thought Garnica was the better horse to bet on over Adolfo (and so did Zaida), but the sly old fox scored a few wins-- bumped off Garnica, got the ring from Carlos, and got info on Mario's health. What a way for Garnica to go- wrapped up, chained up, and drowned in the middle of the ocean. Ouch!
I thought that Ale was being rude to Mau in the conversation about the construction time. I thought about my own work setting. If one of the other directors from one of my organization's other regions came to observe a meeting I was running, and then openly contradicted my plans, based on what they do in their region, I would be ticked off. One context is not the same as the other, and they don't know all the underlying factors in my region. I thought it ridiculous that she was comparing repair work she did on ONE HOUSE, which was her ONLY project at the time, to a huge tourist project in another city. Not cool in my book.

Jeri~~~Due to starring in my own real lIfe novala, I haven't been able to watch the recordings of this show lately or read the recaps. Thanks so much for the photos. The love scenes are muy frisky, and I lovved the engagement ring in the seashell. [I wish Hub had thought of that presentation. He put my ring in a big box with his Navy boots and wrapped it up for Christmas one year !!!!...Not as romantic as a shell. ] I MUST start watching it again and reading the recaps. P.S. I statred watching the new 9.oo novela ...''Trifuno de Amor'' , and it's good.

Funny moment: When Gabi turned off the tv and David asked her if she was bored and wanted to do something else- he wanted to get frisky and tried really hard to turn his immobilized neck to kiss her. Poor fellow. LOL! Then, she didn't even give him a kiss before getting right to the work of him teaching her about the hotel business. But he did look really happy to do it.
And JJ gave a shout out to the original version of this novela, by telling Ale that's why he wanted to rush back to her hotel room- to see his favorite telenovela, El Camino Secreto. (wink, wink) I've noticed in this novela that people watch tv like normal people do. In other novelas, middle class and rich people never watch tv. Only the poor nacos seem to, and sometimes not even them.

If not, try to find a picture of him from that novela on youtube. Muy hot. His love was Carla's mother from El Clon. And...I'm with you , I prefer Os to William. Also, I had exactly the same thought as you about Fabian [Carlos from LVO] ...Paul M. wantabe. I think that you and I are on the same page !!!

P.S. It's a rare thing in this well written show, I must say. Unless she really is acting stupid, in which case it's something to add to her characterization list...
I think they did a good job of backing up Elsa's feelings.
They basically had her say she fell in love with the Juan José who was in prison; but that he changed when he got out and became basically a different person.

Margaret, Asunción the nightmare theme has to do with his inability to read; he will have to learn how to read.
Margaret- We know that Limon's dream was all about literacy and feeling useless because he can't read. A recurring theme in this novela with Limon, Caramelo and now Chicles. They have pieces of the puzzle, but can't help put it together because they lack this one skill.
In the dream, Limon and Caramelo are back on the street because they couldn't help prove JJ's innocence, and it is all Limon's fault because he couldn't read and was too stupid to help JJ. JJ's back in jail, and lost all his money; Limon and Caramelo are back on the street with Chicles, and Caramelo has to hustle as a street clown to make them money. Then Chicles gets hit by a car, and even though Limon saw the license plate clearly, since he can't read, he can't give the police the info. That's when Chicle's dad, the cop, Caramelo and all the bystanders start jeering him for being stupid and letting the letting the perpetrator go free.

So if I don't want to accept the fact that the writer fell asleep over the script (like he did when he changed Elsa's and JJ's personality*), I must think Alejandra knew what she was talking about. She was arrogant and nobody asked for her opinion, but she knew the details of the project because she promised JJ to help him. Maybe it isn't such a big project.
* A drastic change happened after the day they met in Alejandra's office and JJ pretended he didn't know her. While both remained good people, Elsa became an insecure, whiny shrew and JJ became an insecure, jealous jerk. I'm sure it was a mistake of the otherwise good script.

Aribeth: Fabulous as always. You had my rapt attention from beginning to end. You have such a great style and flair. Needless to say,the pictures were remarkable.

Aribeth- I will agree it was arrogance. Even if she feels like she knows the project inside and out after studying it for one day (which I highly doubt is possible), it is still out of line to contradict a colleague so publicly like that and in such a rude way, especially when it isn't her project. She should have had that as a side conversation with him. But I will also forgive the writers for this blunder as it does not affect the high, high quality of the writing of this novela. :)
The problem here is that Mauricio isn't stupid either; so one of the other of them is stupid -- or simply incorrect -- from this interaction.
The only good rationalization I could come up with is that Mauricio was unwittingly employing Garnica's construction recommendations somehow, which we know would always be riddled with graft.
In which case, it would turn out well that Alejandra brings it up; however, it wasn't done kosher. Otherwise, she is looking petulant. Not attractive in anyone.

Who should raise Caramelo?
Elsa and Mauricio would be the perfect choice. A well-educated, wealthy man with no penal record and a hard-working, polite young woman who loves the kid and instinctively knows how to treat her. If Caramelo was a child who was abused I would say, okay, adopt her. But this kid is surrounded by people who love, nurture and take care of her - and Limón is her father and mother, he's the man who raised her. It doesn't matter that he was just an illiterate beggar, they belong to each other.
I just hate the fact that if Mauricio and Elsa wanted they could take her away from her non-conventional family just because they are educated and they were lucky enough for not being imprisoned innocently. They would never do such a heartless thing but I didn't like that idea anyway. Give Asunción time to learn how to read. Give JJ time to prove his innocence. Give Alejandra time to find out if she could raise a kid. They are able to form a real family. It wouldn't be like Mr. and Mrs. Perfect's home, but it would be a real family - like Fausto and his daughters.
However, what will happen to her if JJ never finds that letter? Because this is the biggest problem here. Will he ever be able to adopt Cara? I don't think so. In this case Elsa and Mauricio should adopt her before a child care officer/teacher realizes there's something wrong with her papers.

It wouldn't be like Mr. and Mrs. Perfect's home, but it would be a real family - like Fausto and his daughters.
However, what will happen to her if JJ never finds that letter? Because this is the biggest problem here. Will he ever be able to adopt Cara? I don't think so. In this case Elsa and Mauricio should adopt her before a child care officer/teacher realizes there's something wrong with her papers.

sadly, I don't expect another to equal or come close to this.
Diana, I would love to see Caramelo with Elsa. She has been the first mother figure for her
and a wonderful one; they took to each other immediately. Elsa would have done even more with C.
but there was the standoff with JJ. Limón loves her dearly and vice versa. I'm sure the writers
have worked out something to our liking. Indeed C. has an extended family.

She must also realize that she too is not the same person. She has

Thanks for the recap Aribeth. As Jeri said this show is a gift. The episodes are fast paced and some new secret or aspect of the plot is constantly developing.

He truly fell in love with her when she came all the way to his hotel room and braced his bathrobed self with her profound loyalty to Juan José, trying to get Mauricio to return and help -- after he had rejected her request repeatedly.
Mauricio was just floored by the depth of Elsa's feeling and wanted nothing more than to be loved like that, IMO.
It's what has given him the courage of his convictions. He's a strong man, but this is the source of his actions. And I love it.

Sandy- The difference is that Chicles has a dad and mom, and a brother, and a home (in a slum). Although they are very poor and just one step from the street. But they aren't homeless like Limon and Caramelo were, and have a blood familiar tie.
Forgot to add. I also just loved Caramelo in her clown's outfit with her 'inflated little bottom' and doing cartwheels. What a little cutie.
It has been so entertaining watching Caramelo and Chicles together in these episodes playing together, arguing, and just being kids. Love them.

Vivi, I remember that Chicles has relatives, his dad hits the cantinas a lot, but like Dolly Parton talks about, sometimes in poor families, children are farmed out to others who are better able to keep them! For all practical purposes Limon is caring for Chicles.

Sandy- Yep. I think Chicles should live with them full time and go to school. And it looks like that's what JJ's thinking too when he told him last episode that he'll buy him a book bag for school. I think he'll be harder to convince than Caramelo though, who has loved school since she first got to go.
This whole literacy theme is really a PSA, but a very well done one because it actually plays into the plot. Unlike how they randomly threw it into STUD. I'm thinking about those random scenes of people reading the Mexico book, and one of the characters, with no previous teaching experience, becoming the literacy teacher for all the older illiterate folks in the town (and we only see her teach once). And then all the town people are grateful, yada, yada. The heroine was also big on education and built a school so that the farm working children could catch up, and eventually not have to be farm workers. I appreciate the education message and don't begrudge the writers adding it. But it was just so awkwardly done and random, unlike here.

About Ale, when she left the luncheon (breakfast?) abruptly yesterday I thought it was because her snobbish penchant and womanly skills had sized up Zaida as a high-priced callgirl and that Ale was ticked off to be in that company. Honestly, when Garnica told Zaida to get close to JJ to get info, I was "ick" at the thought Zaida trying to put her paws on JJ. My take is that Ale is too confident to be jealous of someone like Zaida, while her jealousy of Elsa and Gabi was reasonable under the circumstances and well handled in that she straight up talked to JJ about it when they occurred.
Ale's smart but she does have a tendency to snap off (like when she was a snob with JJ's friends watching soccer in the messy hotel room way back when). I agree she shouldn't have contradicted Mauricio in front of the group, but I think her awareness that Garnica and Zaida are not on the up and up caused her to act abruptly. My take is that Ale has been taking charge since a young age and problably was more like a adult ally to her mom (who apparently didn't marry well and had to be helped financially by her brother) than a little girl, while Bertha loafed around doing nothing of course. I think having grown up like that and being a woman in a mostly male profession, Ale is more streetwise about Garnica and Zaida than Mauricio. Plus she's got women's intuition on her side. Asuncion saved Caramelo from dying as a baby in a trash heap. The first thing JJ purchased outside of prison (borrowing money from Elsa, of course) was a bed for Caramelo and JJ's the one that made sure she got enrolled in school.

Niece, your thoughts are extremely well reasoned. This novela plot is hitting home for many of us. We do know that courts have to solve custody issues between loving parents every day. Also, in real life, there isn’t a month that goes by that we don’t see someone who doesn’t handle an office situation or family conversation as they should. Maybe sometimes that person is us. I for one was getting a little tired of mind erasing drugs, or numerous hideously evil people type plot lines that have nothing to do with real life. It has been a joy to watch the love and respect between the LVO characters, who for the most part, want to do the right thing, like real people.
Of course, we hope that JJ, Elsa and Limon can work out a solution for Caramelo. They have had a few bumps in the road, but all parties have put her first so far. The ideas of everyone under one roof or sharing the tunnel house are good ones....and we'll have another novela based on the resulting relationship between Ale and Elsa.

I just can't believe that this novela has sustained such quality for so long with each episode full of action, unexpected events and romance even if Uni edits a lot of it. What a gem and we are happily being spoiled.
