La Verdad Oculta 109: Two Damsels in Distress, Saved by One Letter

Vivi has gone out to play in the beautiful spring-like weather! The recap will be up sometime over the weekend when she’s tired of being out in the sun and the 60 degree weather. Want more? Well, ok. Here are the highlights: JJ and a kind bystander save FaustiMario (of course); everyone thinks Bertha was part of the plot to do him in, but she swears she's innocent; Adolfo is not pleased; Tia Yolanda visits the kiddies at Casa Genoves (aka enemy territory); JJ shows the gang the “mai” he received from Garnica- they decide to give “Garnica” an identity test; Yolanda begs “Mario’s” forgiveness, admits she switched the rings, but refuses to say why she can’t free herself from Adolfo; cracks form in the partnership between the Three Goons and Edgar and Valentin decide to make some trouble on their own; Ulises finally remembers Zaida’s letter, which tells all about Adolfo’s and Dante’s dirty dealings- he informs JJ; Gabi tells “Mario” that he can’t take Fausto’s place, although she’s accepting the idea of his being her bio dad- at times he really reminds her of her dad; Dante orders Carmelo to find Garnica; the two sisters decide to reach out to their brother Carlos and make plans to see each other; Adolfo orders his henchman to “liquidate” Zaida for betraying him and letting Garnica escape alive; JJ (stupidly) goes to Adolfo’s condo alone, and threatens to give Zaida’s letter over to the cops if Adolfo and Dante don’t find a way to set Elsa free, immediately; Adolfo rushes to stop Zaida’s liquidation, just in the nick of time.

Full recap: FaustiMario is hanging by a thread, or rather a finger, from the railing over the lobby of the hotel Mirador. Our hero JJ, and another heroic bystander, pull FaustiMario up and safely onto the stairs. After assuring that the very relieved and breathless FaustiMario is ok, JJ and Ale begin to wonder who was the guy who pushed him, if what just happened was an accident, and what was Bertha doing here. When Fausto explains that she was there to meet him, Ale narrows her eyes in suspicion. She heads up to the restaurant to find out what her sister is up to. She thinks her little sis’ excuse about wanting to mend fences with their uncle is bs, and informs her of “Mario's” near death experience on the stairs. Why did Bertha run off? Bertha says she just headed to the restaurant because that was where they agreed to meet. Ale takes Bertha to check on their uncle, since Bertha is so concerned for his welfare. After asking how he is, Bertha decides it’s best if they save their discussion, particularly the subject matter of Adolfo, for another day. She quickly rushes off under the suspicious gazes of Ale and JJ. JJ and Ale accompany a still shaky Fausto to his car.

At JJ’s house, Lucha wants to know how Limon is dealing with Abelardo’s custody of Caramelo and her staying at Casa Genoves. Turns out he’s not freaking out as much as he did last time because he knows Abelardo isn’t trying to take Cara from him. Yolanda calls wanting to speak to Caramelo, and is encouraged by Limon to cross over to enemy territory at Casa Genoves to see the kids in person. Limon and Lucha stamp and certify Yolanda as “good peeps.”

Bertha returns home to Adolfo to inform him about what happened. She didn’t get to speak to her uncle because someone pushed him on the stairs and almost killed him. Adolfo is clearly upset about the ALMOST (casi) part, and not about the killing attempt. Then he gets more upset that it was JJ who saved the day. “How fortunate. What luck that nothing happened.” Bertha seems to pick up the hint of irony in his tone, and looks at him suspiciously. (Is her brain finally starting to function?) “Adolfo, you told me that you weren’t going to expose me (exponerme) to anything dangerous. And you try to kill my uncle by pushing him over the stairs!?” Adolfo gets indignant. “How dare you say something so stupid! No way!” He storms out demanding not to be disturbed.

Yolanda arrives to Casa Genoves. FaustiMario is regaling Limon with tales of the near death experience and JJ’s heroics in the back yard. He greets Yolanda with suspicion, but she gets a much warmer reception from the kids. Caramelo rattles off the list of all her new uncles and aunts. Chicles says he’s doing the usual, which Yolanda knows means he’s up to no good. Big hugs and kisses for the formerly kidnapped trio. David and Gabi arrive and greet her with awkwardness, but understand why she and the kids would want to see each other after their terrible experience. Yolanda asks to speak to Mario privately, and shortly after they leave for the home office, JJ and Ale arrive. Gabi and David learn of the staircase incident and they all agree that it was done on purpose. They are all sure that Bertha set the meeting up on Adolfo’s orders. Gabi suggests the logical—bring Leo into the loop. But JJ nixes that idea. He still prefers the go it alone (well, with his BFFs David and Carlos) approach. He pulls out the “mai” he received from Garnica. David and Ale think they can’t be sure it’s Garnica. Gabi once again suggests that Leo could help them figure out the true origin of the e-mail. Nope. JJ doesn’t think that will solve anything. Plus he’ll just scold them about their latest cowboy antics. David thinks that there is likely a link to the appearance of the lawyer with knowledge of Gabi’s shoes (Carmelo) and this reappearance of Garnica. (Gold star for David!)

Mientras tanto (in the meantime) in the office, Yolanda is telling “Mario” about all the guilt she feels for being part of so many injustices. “Mario” is forgiving, especially since Yolanda has been a victim of Adolfo’s evil herself—most recently with the kidnapping. “Well, we all have our crosses to bear. And it seems that destiny wants Adolfo to be mine.” She begs “Mario’s” forgiveness for all that has happened, but knows it can’t change anything. Mario doesn’t think it’s her that needs forgiveness, but Adolfo. And the things that he’s done are unforgivable. For this reason Yolanda wants to tell him about something she did to right a wrong—something that can help prove that Santiago didn’t kill Marta.

Over at Goon Central, Carmelo is laying out the next steps of the plan. He’s going to tell Dante that he couldn’t find Edgar. Valentín needs to get back to work so that no one will become suspicious. Annoyed Edgar wonders what he’s supposed to do. Give him the shoes and sit tight is Carmelo’s reply. NO WAY! It cost Edgar his job and nearly his life to get those. Carmelo urges him to calm down and stick to the plan that will benefit all of them. Edgar decides to go along for now, but he doesn’t like to take orders from anybody, and if Carmelo decides to betray them, he’s got a photo of him with the shoes that will get him in deep doo doo with Dante. Carmelo reminds him that they are all in this together. All for one and one for all, and all that. Edgar doesn’t seem convinced.

Yolanda continues her explanation about how she switched Carlos’s real ring for the fake one Adolfo had created. “Mario” wonders wouldn’t it have been easier all around if she had told the cops what really happened at the very beginning. Yolanda thinks Adolfo would have killed her had she done so. “But the police would have protected you!” “But it’s not about my safety, it’s about…about…I can’t denounce (delatar) Adolfo. I can’t” “But why Yolanda!? Why?! What ties you to him?!” “I can’t tell you anything.” She flees the office leaving Fausto more baffled than before.

Carmelo better be careful because Eddie’s got that crazy look in his eyes that we all know so well. He wants to know when they’ll get to see all the cash (lana) they’ve demanded from Adolfo and Dante. Carmelo doesn’t know since he hasn’t received an answer from either of them yet. He’s demanded 10 million pesos from each of them. In exchange, Adolfo will get the shoes, diamonds, and the letter Valentin spoke of; Dante will receive info about how Adolfo is trying to double cross him. He’s sure they’ll have an answer tomorrow.

At Casa Genoves, Fred and Daphne (aka David and Ale) are trying to convince Scooby Doo (aka JJ) that there is no proof that the e-mail was actually sent from Garnica. JJ thinks he’s probably just afraid to show his face to him after his blackmail scheme. David thinks it best that they send “Garnica” a few questions to first prove his identity. Questions like: How did they meet? (David and Abe are shocked JJ trusted a guy who just turned up at his door saying he was a lawyer who knew JJ had a lot of money. JJ knows now that it was dumb.); Who was with them on the plane?; and Who was at the table when they signed the contract in Puerto Vallarta? Ale writes the message as they all look on.

Ulises returns to his apartment to find a stack of junk mail and bills at his door. As he throws them all in a drawer, he suddenly remembers an important piece of mail—Zaida’s letter! After a bit of hand wringing about what to do, he rips it open. “No manches!” (No f-ing way!) He calls up JJ right away with a quick explanation of the letter and a promise that it will knock his socks off (ir de espaldas/to fall to one’s back/be surprised). JJ explains to the group as best he can (Zaida, letter, Elsa, Ulises) and leaves.

Edgar and Valentin are having a stroll and a heart to heart. Edgar is not comfortable with Carmelo having his hands on everything. Valentin casually says that Carmelo doesn’t have EVERYTHING. Say what?! Valentin explains that there were a few other things in Garnica’s safe that he kept. Edgar is impressed. He obviously was in agreement with us that Valentin was not the sharpest assassin knife in the drawer. “Knowledge is power”, says Valentin.

In the back yard, Gabi and FaustiMario are having a chat about the baby and what Gabi wants- girl or boy. If she’s as sweet as Caramelo, then she wants a girl. No way in heck she wants a boy like Chicles! And what does she want to name the baby? If it’s a girl, then she wants to name her Gabriela, since she loves the name and it’s not her real name. If it’s a boy, then she wants to name him Fausto. FaustiMario can barely contain his proud tears (where’s David with a bear hug when you need him?). Gabi can’t wait to tell her father he’s going to be a grandfather. He’s going to go crazy and start buying baby toys and clothes. She can already picture him walking the baby in the park. FaustiMario really has to work hard now to not start bawling. Gabi continues that she doesn’t know if one day she’ll see him (Mario) as a father, but for her, Fausto, the man who raised her, will always be her father. FaustiMario understands perfectly, but would love for them to continue communicating the way they are now. Gabi agrees. Sometimes he even reminds her of her father! (Ahem…) FaustiMario thinks it’s because they’re both old dudes. Gabi wonders how her father is, and wonders why “Mario” is so quick to answer that he’s fine. Now that she’s pregnant, and feeling more emotional, she particularly wants to be surrounded by her people/family. “I understand. Your father won’t be far away for long.” Gabi gets up to go, and plants a sweet kiss on “Mario’s” cheek before she leaves. Fausto’s working overtime by this point to not let his tears fall.

Valentin shows Edgar the additional documents Garnica has—account books of Adolfo’s restaurants; a black book of important people, including Mario Genoves; info sheets of various people including Elsa and Marcos; and a pic of the famous helicopter. Turns out Valentin did not destroy the helicopter as he was ordered to. He hid it away. They both think JJ would pay pretty well for that info.

JJ at that moment has just arrived at Ulises’s. He immediately reads the letter. JJ figures Zaida wrote the letter because she thought they were going to kill her. This letter can help free Elsa! He runs out without explaining to (eager) Ulises what he intends to do.

Carmelo brings his apologies to Dante for not being able to find Edgar. No worries, says Dante, he has a new person for him to look for—Garnica. He thought the guy was dead, but it seems he isn’t. Dante thinks Valentin, one of Garnica’s men, knows the deal. He wants Carmelo to use his special skills to get info out of him about whether Garnica is alive, and where he’s hding.

At the Guillen apartment, Juli is having a Luis Miguel moment—singing the theme song while sorting beans. Gabi comes to visit and the two have some sisterly bonding over the baby on the way. Neither have heard from their father, but Leo assures Juli that Fausto is safe. Speaking of Leo, he’s been working a lot, but Juli is super excited about the upcoming return of Paula in two weeks (maybe Paula Drew can help our slow adults solve this case). Juli gives Gabi her first baby present- a unisex yellow and white sweater. They hug, and Gabi gets emotional and starts crying—so many things are happening, and their dad isn’t even there to share in the news of the baby. Juli thinks there’s plenty of time for him to enjoy the baby and for them all to be together. Gabi knows she’s right and that she’s being affected by pregnancy hormones. Juli concedes that their lives haven’t always been normal, and especially not lately, so it’s understandable. Has Gabi spoken to Carlos? Not recently. They are both now excited about the idea of having a big brother and think they should all get together. Gabi calls hard working Carlos to set something up. He’ll try to wrap up work early enough to see them that evening—if not, he’ll meet them tomorrow. The siblings end the call sweetly with terms of endearment. Carlos smiles from ear to ear. Juli is pleased to learn Carlos is working for JJ. They wonder how their father is holding up.

At the local internet café, computer novices Edgar and Valentin are getting the pretty employee to help them check their G-mail (Garnica mail) account. They see that there are responses to each of their three messages. The first they read is Adolfo’s. He’s already deposited the money to the account indicated. Now he wants his stuff. “That idiot Carmelo lied to us when he said he hadn’t heard anything about the money!” Uh oh! Eddie has that look in his eyes again.

Carlos and Urbina speak restaurant biz. Carlos thinks thing have been working well, but he has some ideas for modernization. Urbina’s down with that. He knows Carlos is experienced and thinks his ideas will be beneficial for the hotel.

Dante storms into Adolfo’s condo, with two armed goons at his back, and demands to speak to Adolfo. Adolfo, meanwhile, is in his office checking in on Zaida with one of his goons. She’s down at the beach, being watched by two other goons. When she comes back, Adolfo wants him to “liquidate” her!

He goes out to see what Dante wants. Dante refuses to send his goons out. The two old devils are just gearing up to have a verbal showdown, when JJ breezes in. Now they both turn their ire to their mutual thorn in the side. JJ pulls out Zaida’s letter and begins to read it aloud:
“I, Zaida Castellanos, in possession of my full faculties, declare that I was obligated/forced by Señores Dante Sevilla and Adolfo Avila…” Dante bids his goons to leave before they learn more than he’s comfortable with them knowing. JJ continues:
“…to become involved in shady/serious business. I was forced to become involved in serious crimes. These two individuals are…” This time Adolfo has him stop. JJ continues again:
“These two individuals are smugglers of precious jewels and archeological pieces, and responsible for other crimes. Among them, dealings with a criminal named Javier Garnica, whose cadaver, on Adolfo’s orders, was thrown in the sea in Puerto Vallarta. For all these reasons, I want to make clear that if something happens to me, or I disappear, the guilty ones were the men I just mentioned.”

Lies! All Lies. We’ve just been in communication with Garnica. “You don’t say?” (No me diga!) So why don’t you take this letter to the cops? “Because I want to do everything possible to demonstrate the innocence of Elsa Rivera!” JJ leaves the two with a copy of the letter, and a promise of the original IF/WHEN they find a way to clear Elsa of the charges against her and set her free immediately. As JJ makes his cocksure exit, Adolfo runs to the phone to stop the itchy finger of the beach goon, who has his gun cocked and pointed at the forehead of a bound and gagged Zaida. “You want to hear the gunshot boss?” “NO!!!”

Thanks Vivi, and have a great weekend! Here the weather is still ugly and cold, but I hope it'll get warmer soon.

Best conversation:
JJ: I received a mai.
David: Mail.
JJ: That's it, mai.
David: Mail.

JJ (stupidly) goes to Adolfo’s condo alone

I guess the other member of the Stupendous Six will be mad at him, and he could've sent Dolphie a fax, but as usual, it was a pleasure to see the reckless pumpkin kicking Adolfo's and Dante's butt. Melodrama rules. :) And he sacrificed a very good opportunity to avenge for Elsa. That letter wouldn't send Adolfo to jail, but it could save the girl. (I don't know how, but in LVO's universe Adolfo is able to set her free.)

That letter wouldn't send Adolfo to jail

I mean it could cause Adolfo many problems but it isn't the best proof ever.

Enjoy the warm waether Vivi. So I'm wondering will the henchmen stop from killing Zaida. He looked more than happy to pull the triger. I suppose we'll find out on Monday. Of course, JJ doesn't tell Leo about the letter and once again confronts Adolfo and Dante alone. I'm thinking once Leo gets wind of this he is not going to be happy LOL.

I wish Yolanda would spill already why she is still tied to Adolfo. I really want to know what the dreadful secret is.

Thank you, Vivi! Here are the You Tube links for Episode 109:

Part 1

Part 2

Part 3

Part 4

Part 5

Vivi, Bertha was not feigning innocence; when Alejandra encountered her upstairs, she had no idea anything had happened to Mario.

The reason she ran away from Alejandra was because the episode before, Bertha told Adolfo she had not informed her sister of their marriage -- nor did she intend to.

Bertha told Alejandra before she even knew what had happened that she went there to mend fences with Mario. Bertha was telling the truth and obviously surprised at what happened.

When she got back to the condo, after explaining perplexedly what happened, she accused Adolfo in outrage of trying to harm Mario, which he also outraged denied.

Bertha would not put up with Adolfo trying to murder Mario. That was clear.

Jeri:
Bertha was not feigning innocence

I agree.

Hello everyone!

Yolanda said that Adolfo was " her cross to bare.". Does anyone think that Adolfo and Yolanda are brother and sister? That would explain a lot!

Sandy, my exact thoughts that Adolfo and Yolanda may be sibs which continues a recurring theme from this novela, Gabi, Julieta and Carlos. Elsa and Marcos, Ale and Bertha. And one sib seems to be good and the other not so much.

Bertha didn't see the attempted murder of Mario but she has to be as dense as J J if she thinks Adolfo is requesting her to do anything for her benefit not his. She is just complying to keep him happy which makes her happy because it does not interrupt the gravy train. She really can't claim innocence because she knows he is an evil man. He has used her in the past as an alibi and a spy and she knows he hates Mario and wants his fortune. Adolfo told her where to meet Mario and the time as well. She should have figured something was up.

Zaida is a nervous wreck, usually. but now. Poor Zaida.

Vivi, enjoy your sunny day.

GinCA

Coming up for air again to thank Aribeth, Jeri, and Vivi for recapping this show to the end.

I'm no fan of Bertha's by any means, but I do think the writers were trying to show that Bertha wasn't expecting murder. I have no doubt she thought that making up with Mario had some advantage for Adolfo, but that didn't necessary mean a trap for murder. Not that that says anything good about her.

I'm glad it looks like JJ is going to get Elsa out, so he can make up some for his stupidity to her. However, I suspect he's in for a lecture from Mommy Ale. Not that she doesn't want Elsa released, but I doubt she wants JJ to get killed doing it :-)

Lookit this news article today; what a nice surprise:

Bilingualism may delay Alzheimer's

...Mastering a second language can pump up your brain in ways that seem to delay getting Alzheimer's disease later on, scientists said Friday...(cont.)

Vivi, enjoy your nice weather.

Regarding Bertha, ITA w/GinCa. Though she might not have known Adolfo was planning on killing her tio, she continues to stay (and be married to Adolfo) in spite of the things she has observed and others have told her. It's willful ignorance.

Though I do enjoy the fact that JJ causes Adolfo to take more medicine, he needs to stop doing what so many good folks in TN do; don't tell the bad guys what you are doing until you've done it.

Sandy & GinCA - Yolanda and Adolfo as siblings; that's brilliant. It's been a thread throughout the TN and would be such an interesting twist to their relationship. We know she has a horrible secret (she keeps running away when presses as to why she stays allied with Adolfo) and I think it's something tied to Marta's death.

Question - do we know officially that Adolfo killed Marta? And is Yolanda only saying he didn't to spare Carlos? Thanks in advance.

Another question- in the last few episodes, I have seen the comment(command?) "No manchés" several times. Is this an idiom or does is just mean "No stains"? I cannot seem to understand the context of it in the conversations. Can someone help me with the meaning or proper translation? Appreciate any help and thank all of the translators for all their time and effort they have given with this fabulous telenovela. For those of us that are not native speakers and trying to learn Spanish, you are a godsend! Thanks again - Elaine

Elaine, nice to see you. :-)

Try "no way" or more emphatic, "no freakin' way!" Not something to use with the granny unless she's hip.

Sandy, I never thought of Yolanda and Adolfo being brother and sister. Wow! If so, now I'm wondering if Adolfo killed their parents. He's not beyond killing little kids so it's a possibility.

Vivi, thanks for the summary, looking forward to your recap.

Aribeth, a belated Happy Birthday! ITA that JJ was reckless again but the action movie fan in me enjoys his loneman stunts. Lol when he reached for the copy of the letter and Dante's henchmen pulled their guns. Looks like his recklessness will save Zaida's life this time.

I forgot about Zaida's letter too so I can't be too hard on Ulises. So much has happened it's hard to keep it all straight.

Karen, they showed a scene in the past of Adolfo wearing the cufflinks and strangling Marta to death, and Yolanda has said Adolfo did it. In the strangulation scene, viewerville knows it's Adolfo by his suit and cufflinks, but they didn't actually show his face.

GinCA, ITA on Bertha. She was only blind to Adolfo because she wanted to be. I think she's about to crack though. Murder seems to be too much for her, but then again another diamond necklace may blind her again.

If Bertha does re-hookup with Carlos, I wonder how she'll behave with his half-sisters?

Hola,noveleras,
I arived in Antigua, Guatemala
yesterday. I stayed with one family in 2008 & 2009. This year
I wanted to stay with more people
with chilren. So far, I took the old family out to a wonderful lunch at a beautiful hotel, Casa Santa Domingo. I go there often to study in their gardens. I speak
only español, better now from listening to the novelas. Later I intoduced the old family to the new family. All is well.

Edgar is back with that crazed look in his eyes.

Floridia,

So happy to hear from you. I bet you're posting from an Internet cafe, like the one that Edgar and Valentin used! We are so glad that you made it there safely, keep us posted! I'm jealous of your immersion experience!

Welcome Elaine!

The full recap is up now! Thanks for the patience all. I had a fab weekend and ended it with hanging out with friends down from NYC for the holiday (I have work tomorrow, they don't) singing karaoke. Fun times all around. The weather was wonderful!

Jeri- Ok. I took out "play"ing innocent. But I still think she can't claim total innocence about not knowing something would be up. Karen described it perfectly-- willful ignorance. That's exactly right. Willful ignorance is ignorance, but it's not innocence.

Floridia- Thanks for checking in from afar! I hope you're not abusing the internet cafe the way Edgar and Valentin were? ;-)

Karen- In addition to all the things Niecie mentioned, when Yolanda came into Adolfo's bedroom the other day and told him she had told Carlos Marta was his mother, his first question was, you didn't tell him I murdered her did you? He denies the murder to everyone else, except Yolanda, who obviously knows the truth. Yes, Yolanda does not want Carlos to find out- partly to spare his feelings, but mostly because she knows it would provoke him to confront his father and she doesn't like the potential outcomes: 1) Adolfo killing Carlos or 2) Carlos killing Adolfo and going to jail.

Vivi, thanks so much for the recap and taking on Fridays; Aribeth and I would be so toast without you. You're the greatest.

Yeah...personally, I think Bertha is a moron. So I can't subscribe to the willful-ignorance scenario; and it's not borne out by events in the show.

They've consistently shown her to react clueless to whatever evidence or testimony to the contrary.

When the spit hits the fan, Bertha would have to be taken by surprise.

Floridia, great to hear from you; glad your trip went well. Sounds like the You Tube links are working for you.

Great recap Vivi!

I hope nothing happens to Karla Greta Reyes Retana Y de las Altas Torres, aka Zaida.

The relationship between Adolfo and Yolanda is indeed a very interesting one. I really enjoy it.

Aribeth, I just read that the new showtime series "The Borgias" is being filmed in Hungary. I'll put special attention to the natural scenery when the episodes will be available to downl... watch, yeah, watch.

Jarocha

You know, this way of life really hasn't been very beneficial to Zaida, and she's a nervous wreck because of it. She shows both flashes of hardness/ruthlessness, as well as scared vulnerability. It makes me wonder how she fell into this life and got involved with these dangerous men, and if it was her choice.

I still haven't totally discarded the idea she's Caramelo's biological mother, LOL. The fact they show her vulnerable keeps that alive for me. It's a strange and interesting side to a villain.

...and also they keep having Asunción remind the audience, bringing up the circumstances of Caramelo's birth, such as again the other day talking to Abelardo in the kitchen.

I'm going to wait until the end to think much more about Bertha, it is just too difficult to judge between a real life person and a novela person. In real life Bertha's actions are inexcusable, but novelas sometimes bend reality to make the life of a totally "willfully ignorant" character end well, Valentina in Gancho comes to mind. Bertha lied by omission to both Ale and JJ, she made it seem as though SHE was interested in a meeting with Mario, in reality she was sent by Adolfo. JJ and Ale caught her lie and therefore the knowing look between them on the staircase. It's like Ross Perot once said, "If your wife (family) can't trust you, who can?"

I'm now more interested in the "Verdad Oculta" of the novela. As I posted before, saying that someone is a "cross to bear" implies that there is a permanent and in a way familial relationship connection, one that you can never break. I had thought all along that Adolfo was holding something over Yolanda's head as a threat of some sort. Now I think that either she made some ridiculous novel deathbed promise to someone or that they are related in some way. Any guesses?

Vivi, thanks for another outstanding recap, so glad that you managed to have a wonderful weekend too!

Sandy- I think that a sibling relationship would be the most logical between Adolfo and Yolanda, and it fits in nicely with the recurring theme in this novela of one (or more) sibling struggling to remain loyal, supportive and loving of a sibling who has not stayed on the straight and narrow path: Ale and Bertha; Elsa and Marcos; Gabi/Juli and Carlos; even Caramelo and Chicles (sibling-like relationship) to some degree.

There are so many more reveals in this novela, we haven't even touched on the Leo/Durango/Adolfo connection. Other than the basic information, we know little about his parents, what they were doing when they were killed, and how that relates to our story. Also, Jeri, like you are saying, they might choose to reveal Caramelo's parentage, although, that would really get viewerville going again, full throttle, on who should have custody!!!!

I think Dante has already been looting antiquities, did anyone else notice the African art collection in his office?

It looks like Yolanda has made the grade and is now a welcome friend of family Genoves. I'm feeling a little left out!

One last thing, what is that outdoor patio material at the Genoves house? Is it big wood chips or some type of red lava stone? Very interesting! All the female actors have to crunch around on it very gingerly

Sandy, I would no doubt have loved to speculate on the situation with Yolanda and Adolfo; but unfortunately that is the area revealed by the troll I encountered in here one Saturday morning that I had to remove. So I have to recuse myself.

About the Zaida side plot, I don't think anybody would give her custody. But Caramelo took an instant liking to her even though a villain, which made me wonder. They could just become acquainted.

I just ask myself why they injected a female villain into the story and gave her vulnerable characteristics, plus having Caramelo move in across the hall.

There are still a few reveals to make in the last two weeks Sandy. You mentioned the Leo family murder-Adolfo connection reveal. I think that will be done privately just between Leo and Adolfo in a dramatic moment- it's really not important to anyone else but those two. It will happen in a moment when Leo finally feels he has Adolfo beat.

Other reveals to come:

-Mario is dead and Santiago has been playing him for months. Really only important to Gabi when she realizes that the bio dad she has been slowly bonding with is her father. She'll be forgiving though. The people to worry about are the baddies-- Adolfo and Bertha specifically. Adolfo at this very moment is the rightful owner of all Genoves assets, as part of their legally binding contract. Even if/when Adolfo dies at the end (jail is less likely), Bertha legally gets all that is his. If she decides to fight for the Geneoves wealth once it's revealed Mario died months ago, she can make a case for it legally. This worries me!
-Adolfo killed Marta. Just one more on a list of MANY crimes that will eventually do Adolfo in. Important for helping to finally clear Santiago legally. But it may also cause the final emotional and psychological break between Carlos and his father.
-A final declaration to the police from BOTH Dora and Carlos about what really happened to the hotel maid to clear JJ's name. Not sure what the cops will do to Carlos, but falsifying testimony will be added to Adolfo's long list of crimes.
-In general, a bright light needs to be shined on Adolfo's illegal dealings including multiple murders on his orders, assassination attempts, and smuggling so that the cops can finally corner him. And Dante needs to be taken down at the same time.
-Looks like we’re close to clearing Elsa’s name.
-Not sure if they will give us a reveal of Caramelo’s or David’s (his dad) origins. If they do, both would open up a whole new can of worms that I’m not sure we have time for.

“Adolfo at this very moment is the rightful owner of all Genoves assets” Vivi, this sounds really stupid, but I did ask a person who is familiar with business law, US only, about the Avila/Genoves contract, which is evidently called a 50/50 contract and common here but usually with different terms. Specifically, I asked if a person steals from his business partner, does that nullify the terms of the original contract? NO it doesn’t, in that case, the survivors would have to sue to get the stolen money back and in the US, that could tie up the estate for years...but the fact that the surviving partner KILLED the dead partner, as did Adolfo, that would certainly change things. The person that I talked to had no experience with a partner killing his co-partner, but was sure that the business wouldn’t just pass on down to the murderer! Now, this is an MEXICAN novela, so there is no tellin’ what might happen, but it stands to reason that by Adolfo paying Robert to kill Mario, in real live and even in Mexico, Adolfo wouldn’t legally get Mario’s estate!!!! Ha ha ha

Jeri, I’m sick that you had to experience the troll! I can’t believe people sometimes.

Sandy- That would be great if the fact that Adolfo murdered Mario means that Mario's assets don't go to him. But how can they prove Adolfo killed Mario (unless he confesses)? Roberto is dead. No one else is around that knows about that deal between Roberto and Adolfo-- all of those goons that were hanging about are dead (Felix, Chango, etc.). Even if Marcos confirms Roberto rented the truck from him, Adolfo was never mentioned in their dealings.

And Sandy, I LOVE that you asked a professional about the legality of our LVO case! :)

Sandy, I love that you consulted legal counsel, too; LOL! We are devoted, are we not.

As I mentioned a few days ago, I am worried Gabriela might not be able prove by DNA that she is Mario's daughter.

Unless they are able to find some undamaged cells in the exhumed, charred body, it would pass to the cousins to make only a distantly related, iffy DNA match.

Zaida being Caramelo's mom is an interesting but side issue; so not sure about that one. But not because it would take long. It could be wrapped up in a few minutes.

But, yeah...I'd bet a week's pay they will reveal Adolfo as David's dad.

I've thought so since back about week one when I posted about it. If they don't have time for that, they don't have time for anything.

Then David would be heir to all of Adolfo's goodies -- not Bertha.

Adolfo as David's dad--I'm still not seeing it. But if so, why would he be any more of an heir than Carlos, when Adolfo has explicitly stated in his will that everything goes to Bertha? Does an unrecognized illegitimate child trump an explicit request in a will?

Gabi doesn't need a DNA test for money sake. Mario changed his will before he died to leave half to her and half to David. But if ANY of Marta’s children want to prove that their identified daddies are truly their daddies, then they have cause. She got around. None of them can be 100% certain. :)

Gabriela is worried about her legal name; she needs to have legal status, which she doesn't right now.

David is older than Carlos, so Adolfo's estate would go to him first, unless they split it. I do think a blood offspring trumps a childless wife.

On her birth certificate Gabi is Marta Guzman. That's all she needs is to go back to her birth certifcate name. It doesn't matter that Santiago isn't her blood father. He is her legal father who is on her birth certificate. She doesn't need the Mario DNA proof for anything other than peace of mind.

Well, that's good; why is she worried about it?

Vivi, the truck rented from Marcos by Roberto paid for by Adolfo is the only link, and I'm sure you are correct, the connection is too sketchy to get back to Adolfo. On asking, I became interested in this topic when Carlos discovered that Adolfo was cooking the books!

So Jeri, you think that Dora is telling una mentira about the daddy going to the US. That would explain her incredible fear of Adolfo and in turn tidy up the inheritance issues in a novela, not legal, kind of way! It would give us a great amount of satisfaction seeing Bertha lose the money to David. He and Carlos would be half bothers, etc. They should have named this novela “Hermanos Medios Ocultos” or something! Having seen this, I think they need DNA testing for all of the niños in the San Angel neighborhood of Mexico City! My head is beginning to spin a bit, I think I need to make a chart to keep up with all of it......not kidding! For David’s sake, I hope Adolfo isn’t his dad.

Jeri, the info you posted on learning another language made it to the national news!

Because she's a worry wart. LOL! And she just doesn't seem to trust what her mom told Santiago, Yolanda and Mario about who her father is. When she's back to being legal and legally married to David, she will have all the names that pertain to her: Marta Guzman Sandivar Genoves (aka Gabi). Will people still call her and Juli by their fake names, or call them by their legal names?

Vivi, terrific recap. I was riveted from beginning to end. Some of my favorite lines: “Over at Goon Central…” “Eddie’s got that crazy look in his eyes that we all know so well.” “G-mail (Garnica mail)” – cute! And my biggest lol: “Fred and Daphne (aka David and Ale) are trying to convince Scooby Doo (aka JJ)…"

Floridia, so glad you're able to stay connected with us while you're in Guatemala.

No doubt Zaida has regrets about her line of work and has done things under orders that she hates, but I can't forgive her for her part in landing Elsa in jail. She knew Elsa was an innocent with a young daughter but had no conscience to get her a job with Dante and later she looked pissed when she saw how much money Elsa was making.

Sandy, my mom is in an assisted living facility with a type of dementia; ever since she was diagnosed I've been wondering what my chances are.

My crazy husband says not to worry if I get it, that I'll make new friends every day!

Regarding Dora, I pointed out the other day that she's not lying. Adolfo has plenty of present contacts in the U.S (Deborah, for example). He could have easily gone there.

I think David has a lot of Adolfo's strength of will; he's quite choleric, too. That showed up a lot in the first part of the show; thank goodness he has Dora's sweetness.

But as a Star Trek fan knows, from evil Kirk and good Kirk, the good side of a person needs the bad side for strength.

Thank you Vivi.

Poor Adolfo nearly had a fit when Bertha told him that 'Mario' was not dead. Hahaha

Zaida was saved. Luckily for her that Ulisis remembered the letter.

Can't wait to find out what secret binds Yolanda and Adolfo.

Adolfo as David's daddy. Can't see it, but hey this is a novela and anything is possible.

"Valentin is not the sharpest assassin knife in the drawer" is a classic line, Vivi. But Valentin proved that Edgar and we were wrong. Also liked Valentin's "Knowledge is power" quote. Now I think Eddie is at the bottom of the list especially since he has the "crazy look" again. Thanks for the many entertaining and funny lines in your recap and the details really help me with comprehension.

Regarding why Zaida is in the smuggling business when she seems ill suited since she is not totally ruthless like Adolfo, Garnica and Dante. I vaguely remember Adolfo saying Zaida was brought into this by her own father who, it seems, had business ties with Adolfo.

Adolfo certainly doesn't seem to be a babe magnet but he somehow managed to sire Carlos and now, David? I hope not, though Carlos would be overjoyed to have not just two sisters but a brother, too. Now I have less respect for Dora than ever if she slept with Adolfo. What a nitwit though she has been loving to David all these years. LOL, Sandy, regarding "DNA testing for all the ninos in the San Angel area of Mexico City."

Did J J actually do somethings halfway bright? He may actually be able to free Elsa. How else could this have been achieved unless, as mentioned, Adolfo or Eddie confess to setting up Elsa with the diamonds.

Two weeks to go.

Will the three goons end up doing in the villains and then, themselves, through mistrust? Can ruthless murderous henchmen be able to be free and rich at the end of the novela? Since in a way, I am rooting for them.

As a character in a Louis L'Amour book once said: "...the bad thing about being an outlaw is the company you have to keep..."

Thank you for the recap, Vivi!

Jarocha, I'm very curious about The Borgias, too.
will be available to downl... watch, yeah, watch :))
