Llena de Amor #142 (Mex. 147) Fri 3/4/11 Fedra Shoulda Stuck With Credit Cards

"¡Mienten, mienten, entiéndame, le juro que mienten (they're lying, lying, understand me, I swear, they are lying) !"

And thus we begin tonight's hour in DF with Bernardo lying to his old Capitán José Maria Sevilla about what he has been told of the mischief that the captain's trusted first mate and ex-bunkmate have been up to while he has been a guest of the state for the past twenty-some-odd years.

Meintras tanto, in Marianela's old room, Emanuel is dismayed to find Victoria reading and commenting on those letters he sent to his Gordita that went unopened and unread for all this time. She kicks his butt out, but, "I want my letters!... ¡Ábreme, open the door!"
Vicky confers with Mari, "You have to open the door, Marianela."
"¡Ábreme!"
"Ay, Dios mio, I can't."
"I want my letters!"
"As soon as I look at those eyes , I won't be able to hold on (aguantar), I'm going to tell him everything. And if I tell him the truth, if I tell Emanuel that I'm Marianela , that never, for not even a single day have I stopped loving him..." She reaches for the door handle.

But we know that none of that is going to happen, don't we? So let's watch as a panicked Ollie, fashionably clad in boxers, flip flops, and a hot pink dressing gown with a feathered collar, chases and temporarily captures a livid Gretel as she flees the ad agency, "Let me explain!"
"What? That Kristel set a trap and you tumbled into it?"
"Sí, that's it exactly."
Gretel is in no mood to forgive. This is his second offense. Remember Lorena? She struggles, "¡AUXLLO! HELP! HE WANTS TO RAPE ME!"
Security runs up as he releases her. She runs away. Color me disappointed... here I was thinking that the truth just might work.

True to his word, General Maximo is guarding the front door. He sits staunchly erect with a pistol in his lap. Delicia scurries up from behind and offers to fetch him coffee. He warns her not to distract him, he must remain alert. I guess even after all these years he is unaware of the salubrious pharmacologic effects of caffeine. Paula joins them and orders Dee to help Nereida with the groceries. She, meanwhile, has lost Benigno. She met a nice young man who even wanted to have his photo taken with her (Dandy!), and when she looked around... no Benigno. The general points his gun as a figure approaches the door.

"¡La perdí, General, I lost her..." It's Benigno. He spots Paula and doesn't miss a beat, "...la encontré, I found her! I found Paulita."

He hugs Paula, but the general interrupts their reunion telling them to sort this out later. He needs Benigno here to help him stand guard, "Go get your shotgun..."

Benigno salutes, the general retakes his seat, Paula and Delicia stand stiffly at attention and dutifully salute as well. The general orates, "The urraca del demonio (the magpie from Hell) bought her freedom and it's up to us to prevent that magpie from setting foot in this house."... Next!

Bernardo is still trying to convince his captain that things are not quite as bad as he has heard. José Maria reminds him that they operated under a strict code of ethics, robbing from the rich, giving to the poor, a little freelance redistribution of wealth. They confronted criminals but never stooped to their level. Bernardo tries to convince him that he did the best he could to watch over the captain's beloved Juana Felipe. "These are different times..."
The captain points out that there is no expiration date (caducidad) on morals and ethics. "How did you fall so low?"

Brandon has found a suitable generic bodyguard to accompany Ilitia in Acapulco but she wants the name brand, namely, Brandon. He points out that he is an important police inspector who has serious work to do.
"What are you trying to say? That it's not serious work protecting the life and integrity of a top international model like me?"
Brandon realizes that her family is going through a tough time what with her dad wanting a divorce and all. She tells him that is because of the goings-on between him and Muñeca. He demands that she respect her mother, the only one guilty is that rabo verde (dirty-old-man) daddy of hers who has taken up with a girl the same age as Ilitia. And we all know who that is, though strangely, Ilitia does not... yet. She calls him a liar (mentiroso). Then in an un-Ilitia-like manner, she yields handing him officer Godines' expenses and papers for the trip (viaticos) and telling him that he'll get his salary when it's over. She leaves him wondering, "Who's going to kiss you Ilitia... you're always able to buy what you want. When will you learn that happiness has no price?"

Dang, I forgot all about Vicky. She's still trying to decide whether to let Manny back in and reveal the truth. She is still talking to Marianela. She decides that with the ratings as good as they are, it would be a shame for the show to end this easily and this soon, and besides maybe with Fedra getting out of jail it would be best all around... well, I know there are some of you eager to know what she actually said so:
"Ay Dios mio (honey, I think Dios lost interest several episodes back) how could it even occur to me to tell the truth? I can't do that yet, much less if Fedra leaves jail. If they set her free and she returns, I have to keep up the ruse."
Manny's impatient and announces if she doesn't let him in he will kick down the door. She fast forwards her mumbling vowing that she has a promise to keep and must continue on as Victoria de la Garza.

Tired of waiting, he kicks open the door. He wants the letters. She has hidden them where he'll never find them. Oh, really? In that little room? Bet we could find them. She tells him that she wants Marianela to read them. And now she feels badly, "After reading those letters from Emanuel, I feel that you and I never should have made love." Well boo frickin' hoo. She tells him she thought that he didn't care for Mari but after reading his letters she sees that his love for her was real. He says I told you so. She says that Mari hated him so much, She should never have meddled in their love. Poor Manny, he says,"Love, what love? I was the only idiot in love in that relationship. It's not your fault, no es tu culpa."
"Claro que sí, of course it is, I should have believed you before..."
And there you have it ladies... and any gentlemen who might still be hanging around... there will be no pigs flying tonight.

Let's move on to something more interesting... Bernardo is trying to convince José Marie that he and Juana Felipe just did what they had to do to survive what with José´Marie being dead and all. This sends the captain on a trip through his memory banks,

"It all began as we unloaded (descargar) the whisky onto the yacht of Aristóteles Curiel"

Flashback!

Yacht. Young Bernardo.
Young José Marie.
Older other guy.
Boxes of whisky.
Money. Not enough money.

Cap'n Joe isn't happy. "This is the best and most expensive (caro) whisky in the world and this is not even a third of what we agreed on. Is this a joke (burla) or what?" Gun.
Juana Felipe." What's going on?"
Old guy likes. "Is this beauty (belleza) included in the deal (paquete)?"
Oops... ummm... Nopis.

Cristian is enjoying a day in the park with his proud papá. They are awaiting a preview of a potential new mamá. This must be one confused kid by now, but he seems to go with the flow. It's Kristel! Actually this all goes pretty well. She smiles and takes him in her arms.

He's happy to be there. He is, after all, Lorenzo-lite. If I didn't know Lorenzo and didn't know Kristel, this would work for me. However... next!

Max sits guard. A standing Benigno naps. The general orders him to inspect his weapon. Uh oh. Forgot the cartridges . They're in the shed. "Hurry!"

In the shed a Lirio de Plata (or should I say THE Lirio de Plata? It's Manny this time) is gearing up. He's mumbling to himself about how now he's hopelessly (perdidimente) in love with Vicky. "To work (chambear)."

As he is uncovering the Batcycle he is joined by a startled Benigno who implores, "Don't kill me."

El Capitán laments, "It was her fault, Bernardo, if Juana Felipe had not boarded the Curiel's yacht that day everything would have been different."
Let's take a moment for a grammar lesson. José Maria has just used an if clause utilizing the past perfect subjunctive and conditional perfect tenses:
"Si esa día Juana Felipa no hubiera abordado el yate de los Curiel, todo habría sido distinto."
See, that didn't hurt a bit, did it?
"The Greek didn't want to pay, but to top it off, he wanted my woman."
Bernardo remembers that they had to leave empty-handed. That's why later he went to the Greeks cabin and found his woman there. "Sleeping. Durmiendo."

Flashback!

Pretty woman sleeps.
Bernardo creeps.
Lots of cash in a cabinet.
Now lots of cash in bag.
Bernardo slips up.
Pretty woman wakes up.
¿Y Ud? ¿ Qué hace aquí? ¡Yeek!"
"¡Callate! Shutup!"
¡Crac! Neck breaks. Pretty woman dead.
"Drat! Hate when that happens." (He didn't actually say it, but I'm sure he thought it.)

I think that was the first and last we'll see of the real Fedra Curiel.

Now Benigno is on his knees pleading. ELdP pulls him to his feet... Benigno is grateful... wait it's the old make 'im think you're grateful trick... he spins eLdP around and grasps him around the waist and... eLdP escapes the death grip. Benigno resorts to some nifty... if clumsy... ninja stick work... It works! ELdP has had enough. He removes the mask. "Emanuel! " He briefly berates him, prompting Manny to wonder if his old friend is going to denounce (delatar) him. How could he possibly denounce him? He yields to the pride he feels for his pupil who is doing so much good for the community. Huggies!

"You killed that woman and I paid for it with almost thirty years in prison for her death and I am innocent!"
Bernardo tries to soften that revelation by avowing that it was an accident. Oh, well, if that's the case... Unfortunately for Bernardo, JM is not in an understanding frame of mind. Fortunately for Bernardo, they are separated by steel bars. More for our benefit than Bernardo's (who after all was present that night) Cap'n Sevilla completes the sorry tale of that fateful day:

Flashback!

That night the Greek, Aristóteles Curiel, his heart filled with grief and a thirst for vengeance, boards the Lirio de Plata, splashes around a combustible, and strikes a match. Capitán José Maria shouts for Bernardo and Juana Felipe to jump ship. He wrestles the Greek to the deck even as it's consumed in flames then

¡BOOM!

So does Fedra return to la Casa de RydT? Not right away. First she needs to consult with her vidente (soothsayer), Angela, who apparently accepts walkins. Being clairvoyant, she no doubt was expecting her.
Fedra gets right to the point, "How did you know that the man with the scar was going to return from the dead? Everything that you told me is happening (sucediendo). Todo, everything, todo."
Well, duh! Didn't you read the sign on the door? Haven't you heard of truth in advertising? There are strict laws regulating this business in Mexico.
"Reina y guerrera (Queen and warrior)," Angela consults the cards.
"¿Eh? Maybe you didn't hear me. I want to know what is going to happen to me. Por favorcito."
"Sit down. Your destiny is inexorable and it will be impossible to escape what awaits you."
"¿Cómo? No, no, no one is going to destroy (destruir) me. Surely not. Tell me that no one will strip (quitar) me of all I've gotten, por favor. I've worked very hard, you have no idea what I've had to suffer for."
"Prepárese, be prepared because the war is coming Fedra Curie... a war to the death."

Yikes!

Bernardo tells his captain that he followed orders. He saved JF and constructed (construir) a life for her as Fedra Curiel. JM asks if it was to sell her to the highest bidder, Emiliano Ruiz y de Teresa.
"¡No, no, no la vendí, I didn't sell her!"

Bernardo tells him that Emi fell hopelessly in love, the captain was dead, and for them, hope and honor died as well, so the only ethic remaining was survival so they did what they had to do to survive. JM thinks they sure were quick to forget him. Bernardo tells him they kept his memory alive... why heck... there's even a guy carrying on el Capitán's good works who is called... el Lirio de Plata.

Angela continues, "Between you and the man from your past there is, there is a, a blood tie (lazo de sangre) that is unbreakable (indisoluble)."
"A son," Fedra replies after taking a moment to goose the little hamster. "Why can't you speak plainly (sencillamente) to people? Yes, my son is the only thing that remains from what we had,"
"That son does not agree with what you do." Angela holds up a card as proof, "He holds in his hands the sword of justice. Él, he will be your most implacable judge and will ultimately convict you."
Fedra is subdued, "¿Cómo, how can you believe (creer) that? He's my son, how can he.... He has to understand that all that I've done has been for him. I did it so he would not be condemned to grow up (crecer) in the misery that I grew up in... truthfully, because it's what parents do who want the best for their ..."
Angela (dang she's good!) interrupts and continues, "Veo, I see. ah, I see a crossroad (encrucijada) where the roads join, between that of the recent arrival and that of your son."
"Oiga (listen), and the crossroad is it for good or for...?"
"It's not clear and you contribute a lot to what will be so. Change your evil ways. There is still time to repent, change your life, to repair all the damage that you've done, (maybe pigs can fly after all) because if not, this man back from the dead will be dead once more."
Fedra sniffs, "¿Qué bueno, no.?"
Angela adds, "But this time, taking you with him."
"¿Ah?" The card Fedra is holding has caught flame from the candle.
That is your destiny. The fire will consume you turning you to ashes (cenizas).

Well, she certainly got her money's worth from that session.
That'll be thirty bucks... tips accepted.

The general is on guard as Netty enters, almost wetting her pants as he confronts he with his pistol.

He apologizes, he didn't mean to frighten her. He's guarding the door to prevent a certain reptile from entering. Netty has come to inform everyone that said reptile has been released. Marianela is glad to see her, "Ay Tia, thanks for coming." Netty tries to cover for Vicky calling her tia, but it's really OK, the only person left who doesn't know the truth is Emanuel.

Max informs them that Fedra must choose between leaving the house forever and... death. Marianela is not sure that she can keep up the fight but Netty gives her a pep talk.

Next to almost wet her pants is Gretel. Actually, I think she does. She begs forgiveness. Mari asks what for? Gretel explains that she burned the proof against Fedra, "Perdóneme."

She explains that she knows the truth, that Tio Max and Criada Paula are her parents and that she burned the papers to save them. Oh, well that's alright then. We have a tearful reunion. "Abrázeme," she gently demands, "Papá, give me a hug."
He never thought he'd get the chance to call her hija or hear her address him as papá.
She tells him that she need his help in finding an recovering Paula, her mamá who is in danger.
Nopis! "No hija, Paula is here in the house... ¡Paula, Paula!"
And heeeere's Paula.
More tearful reunion. Awwww... next!

Daddee's home! Lorenzo strolls in dragging his luggage behind him. His lawyer thought it be best that he stay there in the house with Muñeca until the divorce is final. Muñeca does not concur and orders him to take his sorry butt... and his luggage and get the Hell out. He has a better idea. If she doesn't wish to be there with him, why doesn't she just pack up her goats (chivas) and get out herself?
"¿Mi niño, where is Cristian?"
"Ah, Cristian, he is in a safe place, well attended, and know what? you'll never be able to find him."

He thinks that it'll be best if they get too fond of each other since once it's over, she'll never see Cristian again. She protests, but he reminds her that she has been the one who has been unfair. We all know that the world revolves around Lorenzo and his happiness is of utmost concern.

Ilitia has overheard his assertions of entitlement. How wonderful it is that her parents are divorcing to be with their lovers. She already knows whom Muñeca has chosen and now wants to know the identity of his amante. "Go ahead, tell her," Muñeca urges.

Paula doesn't understand. Gretel explains. She was shown photos proving that Paula is in danger. The truth finally stumbles into Marianela's weakened brain (drat those tainted chocolates), "So that's why you burned those papers! Gretel, that was a big mistake. You should have checked with me first. We could have come up with a solution." You know?... I have my doubts. Netty defends Gretel,"She was terrified. We all know the reach (alcances) od Fedra's evil." Thank you, Netty. Max sums it up nicely,

"Maldita seas, Fedra Curiel for manipulating my daughter like this."

"I only wanted to save Paula. I wanted to save my mamá." Gretel burbles through snot bubbles.
Paula is quick, "¿Tu mamå?" Awwww. Tearful conversation...huggies!...Next!

Suddenly it's all about Ilitia. She's on the verge of losing her husband and her thoughtless parents are divorcing so they can be with there respective lovers. Lorenzo quickly reminds her that no... it's really all about him. He deserves happiness with the woman he loves. This reminds Ilitia, "Just who might that be?" Once more Muñeca encourages him to tell her then offers to do it herself. Stunned by the prospect, Lo ups the ante by threatening to go all in, "I can bring forth your real mother, so that you and all the world and the press can find out (enterar) who I'm talking about. And believe you me, hija, you will not like for a moment finding out."
Muñeca calls that sick, but I think I speak for all of us here at Caray Caray looking on...Bring it on! He goes on to tell Muñeca that he will do it in such a way that she will be sorry for the rest of her life.
"If you bring this woman to destroy my daughter, I swear, I'll kill you!"
"Uy look, I'm trembling (temblando) in fear."
She pushes him. He resists as they are joined by a dark, powerful presence,
"Get out of here immediately if you don't want me to throw you out of this house myself."

It's... say it with me... el Lirio de Plata!

Nereida pouts. Delicia tells her that Bernardo is not worth the tears. He's just using her and she is nuts to be in love with him.
Nereida snaps back, "El comal le dijo a olla (the kettle tells the pot). Do you really think young Axel will marry you?"

Dee's smile says that she does but Nereida warns that once he gets her into his bed, he'll lose interest and dump her. Just in time Axel arrives with a big white box. It's Dee's wedding gown. He spent all his savings and spent two days shopping. She's thrilled.

ELdP scolds Lorenzo as Ilitia digs out her cell phone and makes a call. Gee... whom could she be calling? Lo decides that eLdP must be his wife's amante. Lo throws a punch which misses, eLdP spins him around and marches him out as Lo shouts, "Wait, no. no!" Ilitia looks up from her phone and mutters "Let's see who throws out whom, Batman Región Cuatro."

AS Netty and Marinela look on the protracted mother/daughter love fest between Paula and Gretel, Mari whimpers about not being able to hug her parents. Netty reminds her that she still has her tias and gives her a big hug. Mari then whines about how she has bolluxed things up between her and Eman making one mistake after another.

Netty suggests the truth.

Mari complains that it's too late, he's in love with Victoria and when he finds out they are the same person, he will hate her for deceiving him.

Netty suggests the truth,

"After all that Emauel has done..."

¿"Y qué, what has Emanuel done? Dime (tell me), Tia?"
As Netty sputters, Max is alert. He raises the pistol. Emiliano blunders in. I doubt that he's aware enough of what's going on to even think of wetting himself. He announces that Fedra is free.

He spots Gretel. He wonders why Paula is crying. He wants his gretelhug. Everyone looks awkward.

Delicia is still thrilled with the dress. Axel is glad. They kiss.

French horns sound their love in the background. We're all happy until Nereida snatches the garment.

Things are winding down for the evening. Gretel rushes into the arms of he ex-daddy who beams cluelessly. Max glowers.
Gretel announces that she's home to stay (say what? What about Manolo? We loved that little fellow.) Victoria boasts that she promised Marianela that she would save and unite the family, and by golly, little by little, She's doing just that. This happy scene is disrupted by Nereida who plows into Emi, dress in hand. He tells her that Dee is Axel's novia and that she is obligated to serve her. Ouch! Axel orders her to return the dress to Dee.
Now it's Delicia's turn to gloat even as as Nereida growls, "Just wait'll Fedra gets home."

ELdP returns shaking his hand. "Don't worry señora Muñeca, el señor Porta López is gone and I don't think he'll find it worthwhile to disrespect you anymore or to bother you."
Ilitia grouses and scolds.

Even as Muñeca thanks him we see a smug look cross Ilitia's as she seems to recognize someone just outside and we hear a familiar voice,

"¡Lirio de Plata, we're the police! You're surrounded!"

Awesome Carlos. Loved the style of the flashback synopsis and all your asides....
"a little freelance redistribution of wealth"
"(honey, I think Dios lost interest several episodes back.)"
"boo-frickin'-hoo"
Christian as "Lorenzo-lite" adapting quickly to being in the arms of a new woman
and my absolute favorite...
the "vidente evidently accepts walkins...but "being clairvoyant, no doubt was expecting her."

So funny as were you refrains about near-pants wetting for Netty and Gretel but not eternally clueless Emiliano.

I'm so tired of Vicky's hestiations I could shoot her. Honestly, I wish someone would. Those endless lovers' squabbles are so incredibly tedious.

Oh and thanks for the grammar lesson as well. Very impressive. Can't imagine why people maintain Spanish is an "easy" language. They have a multitude of tenses and they're all complicated if you ask me.

The photos were marvelous also. Knowing how dang complicated it is to add them, I'm so impressed at the number you save and include. Muchas gracias.

Happy weekend. Charlotte daughter is in town and Purdue just lost to Iowa. Smiles all 'round.

PS Good luck with Texas tonight. I'll be thinking good thoughts for Baylor.

Absolutely loved the recap Carlos. I LOLed that Ilitia referred to El Lirio as Batman. I tell you. Someone was really inspired by The Dark Knight LOL. Speaking of which we know now where Eman got his robbing from the rich and giving to the poor from. He's every bit like his dad Jose Maria.

Count me in as another who is tired of MV's hesitations. Just tell Eman already.

I LOLed when Benigno channeled Bruce Lee. I wonder how many takes did it take for that scene. I would not have been able to keep a straight face.

Looking forward to the fireworks when Fedra walks through the door. I'm thinking Mari didn't make any copies of the files Gretel burned. They'll have to start from scratch again to get evidence against Fedra.

Angela's predictions for Fedra were pretty dire. Maybe they won't come true.

Thanks Judy. That was quite an episode. I was only half joking when I said that Emanuel is the only one who is not in on Victoria's secret. Emiliano will probably become aware of it sometime during the third week of the novela that follows. I'm with you about her reluctance.

I loved Angela's professionalism. Fedra has certainly become a subscriber. Thanks for the good wishes for Baylor. Basketball is beginning to get serious, especially for those of us struggling.

Carlos

Thanks Pirate Babe. I was responding to Judy as you posted your comment.
I'm glad you enjoyed the recap. It was a lot of fun to do. I was tempted to use the title Bernardo Izquierda murders Fedra Curiel, but that would have been misleading although correct.

Benigno's martial arts was one of my favorite scenes as well. He was great and Emanuel's patience and affection were charming.

A pox on Vicky for dragging this out.

Isn't it odd that Ilitia is just about the only female not attracted to el Lirio de Plata?

Carlos

Carlos, great recap full of the right mixture of dry humor('...Next!') built in. 'Vicky confers with Mari' that almost made me fall out of my chair too funny but so true. 'well Boo frickin Hoo' LOL; that can be said almost every episode involving her.

So, el capitain stole from rich because he had morals? Guess his best girl & his first mate did not admire him enough to be just like him, bummer.

Love your comment Carlos on how Iilita is not swooning over LdP. How pissed will she be if the truth comes out until she admits her hero worship for Brandon.

Thank God TNs have a Gran Finale cause you know if this was an American soap the whole, Mar/Vicky Emauel story would be drawn out for Years, I just want them to get to truth so happy times(for we viewers )can begin.

That was a great recap Carlos. I laughed and laughed. I especially enjoyed the retelling of the flashbacks.

I think the real Fedra slept through the money stealing part, but when Bernardo decided to start collecting the jewelry chests he made too much noise and woke her up. Titleing about Bernardo killing Fedra would have been great!

What is really driving me crazy is VickiMari's twisted circular logic. "Now that I know you truly loved Marianela, I feell so bad we made love because now I've come between you and the woman you truly love!". Huh? You're between yourself and yourself? You're cheating on yourself with a man who truly loves you? Both of you! I'm not even sure Catholic nuns would decide that was a sin, but Marianela? she is totally traumatized over it like she is truly cheating on her best friend.

The general guarding the door with his pistol? Give me a break. Who wants to bet he somehow neglects to use it when the cobra slithers back in.

Yes, I think it's hilarious that Ilitia thinks el lirio de plata is scum and is always trying to help the police nab him.

Audrey

Great shot there of the yacht going up in flames just as the sun is setting.

Audrey

Thanks Audrey. I felt fairly good about the flashbacks as I was writing but then had my doubts as to how well they worked when I was finished. The photos help, that's for sure.

I'm ambivalent about Marivick's inner turmoil. It's almost psychotic. I've had some fun in the past by treating the two characters as separate individuals in competition over the same man. Manny is bewildered and wily Jorge is exploiting it to his advantage. It's maddening and yet intriguing, but it's becoming old and annoying.

Carlos

Carlos, great fun. I loved all of it. In addition to the lines Judy mentioned, another favorite was Fedra replying after taking a moment to goose the little hamster.

Not only Dios but also the audience lost interest several episodes back regarding MV's pointless wishiwashiness. Yes, someone should shoot her. Give her a little sense of urgency, maybe.

I'm glad we got more flashbacks. I wonder if that was Bernie's first murder...probably, since Chema was a Robin Hood with a strict moral code. And he didn't even mean to kill her. I wonder how much that factored into his turning into a bad guy...was he always amoral but Chema's influence kept him in line, or did the trauma of having killed an innocent woman change him somehow...like, now what's the point of being good, with that black mark on the soul?

My favorite scene was Benigno and El Lirio in the shed. So funny. Emanuel managed to express so much even with a mask on. Remember when VL had very marginal acting skills and it was painful to watch him try to emote? He's come so far.

Also, if you're going to miss Gretel dressing up as Manolo, you can catch a similar situation on Niña de Mi Corazón, which just started last Monday in the afternoons. It's actually a really good show so far, similar in tone to LldA. Fast-paced and funny.

The heroine, who is very similar in personality and looks to our Delicia, has been disguising herself as a dude in order to take a job with the galán. Now she's also got another job at the same law firm as herself, a young lady. She's claiming they're twins. Wacky hijinx, obvio.

Plus the show has endearing characters, good music, some real eye candy, and some people I'd like to strangle already. The hero's skanky girlfriend's mother is a real piece of work...you'd probably like her, Carlos.

Thanks Julia. I remember VL in Amar Sin Limites and Tontas. His acting skills seem to have made a giant leap since those two shows. He seems so much more comfortable, natural, and convincing this time around. I don't remember his character in Alborada all that well, but what I can recall seemed pretty good. That scene with Benigno was magical. I'm still amazed at how so much personality and emotion was communicated from inside that outfit.

As for Bernardo, his character is such an enigma. Fedra is very complex but I think we have a pretty good understanding of who she is. We know a lot about Bernardo. We've seen him coldly do terrible things and even though we've seen him display emotion and angst, I think the best word I can come up with to describe him is mechanical.

Thanks for telling me about Niña de mi Corazón. It sounds like fun. I'm going to set the TIVO to record it next week.

Carlos

Many thanks Carlos for the fun recap and the great pics. Poor Fedra Curiel. She got one telenovela standard line and then bit the dust. I hope this isn't the last of the flashbacks and Marcelo (who does look totally hot in a moustache).

"¡AUXLLO! HELP! HE WANTS TO RAPE ME!" Now, why couldn't MariVicky yell this when Mau popped up in her bedroom (in a house full of people) the other day? Our heroine needs to do something smart/good at least once a week, or I am going to lose all good feelings towards her. I'll try to remember that she brought everyone together for that shortlived family dinner the other day.

I loved Fedra and Angela. "Why can't you speak plainly to people?" Although I do think a death in flames unless you change is pretty clear.

Julia- I'm glad to hear you are enjoying Niña de mi Corazón. I knew you'd be watching since your telenovio is in it. I also noticed the similarities between the heroine and our Delicia from the ads. Her looks make her almost look too young for the galan, but when has that ever been a problem? :) With your stamp of approval, I just might set my dvr.

Oh, mon dieu! C'était incroyable!Magnificent. I could add superlatives all day. if you ever decide to change professions, or retire, I would pre-order any comedic novel you decide to pen.

"And there you have it ladies... and any gentlemen who might still be hanging around... there will be no pigs flying tonight." I'm with everyone else, MV has gotten past annoying with her convoluted logic. She has seen Eman now turn on his mother, why doesn't she use that, tell him the truth and...oh, well. We need to get to 207 episodes, so I guess is the way to make that happen.

To funner stuff - yeah, Marcelo again!! So, Juan and son are on the same page as to how a modern day Robin Hood should behave. Even better, Fedras been warned (wonderful scene)that she better mend her ways or she's toast, or make that burned toast. If she really starts yto play nice, oh my word, that could be hysterical. Then what will MV do?? Frankly, give up and leave town mught be an option.

Miffed at Ilitia, but c'mon, Eman couldn't see her calling and talking on the cell? Gees, needs a lesson in Criminal 101. I think right along with thinking Lirio a smuck, maybe it's all about impressing Brandon?

Lucky Award for tonight to Christian, once again. Man that little cutie knows how to win over the ladies and gets some nice action in the process.

I loved the sideways look Cristián gave Lowrenzo when he said Kristel would be a great mommy. That kid may be mellow but he doesn't seem to be fooled.

I hope El Lirio gets away again, because I want to see how he manages it. On the other hand, if he was caught, would that maybe inspire Mari to also give up her secret identity to him? It might be worth it.

Hi, Vivi. I was thinking the same thing as Gretel was getting away from Oliver:

"'¡AUXLLO! HELP! HE WANTS TO RAPE ME!' Now, why couldn't MariVicky yell this when Mau popped up in her bedroom (in a house full of people) the other day?"

You reminded of one of my favorite episodes of King of the Hill which should be required viewing for every female character of TNs (and many of the guys for that matter). I crack up every time I watch it.

Thanks, daisynjay. I've been really lucky with the episodes I've gotten to recap. I couldn't believe it when Angela told Fedra that it's not too late to change her ways. I thought that horse had left the barn before the first week of this was done. From the looks of the coming attractions, however, it appears that she just might give it a shot.

el Lirio de Plata almost seems to invite these narrow escapes. I'm not sure how he did it from behind that mask, but he seemed to give Ilitia an, "I'm disappointed but not surprised" look when he heard Brandon shouting.

Carlos

Bravo, Carlos! Your recap was the perfect compliment to my late afternoon cup of hot lemon tea... although I did almost spill my calming beverage a few times because your recap was anything but calming (more like had me in stitches). LOL!

I tell you, these alternate personalities/name-swapping women have my head in a right tizzy. Holy crap-a-colon. You got Vicky/Mari two-in-one, two sharing the same body... and then you got one-in-two, one name shared by two women, the poor neck-snapped Fedra and the faux-Fedra (Juana Felipe)... right? I think that's right. I hope that's right. @_____@ Doh.

Just add my name to that list of characters who nearly wet their pants every time someone came careening through the door with Tio Max sitting there with a gun. I just knew he was going to be startled and start shooting, and I kept having to clench certain muscles... if you know what I mean. :P

She pushes him. He resists as they are joined by a dark, powerful presence....

It's... say it with me... el Lirio de Plata!
ROFL! That was good.

And there you have it ladies... and any gentlemen who might still be hanging around... there will be no pigs flying tonight. LMAO! Lawd... actually, there are too many Carlos-isms for me to name. Just great stuff. :)

Thanks again for your terrific write-up. Happy Sunday, Caray-mates. And now on to reading your comments... :)

Yeah, I agree with Audrey...

That was some great Yacht-blowing-sky-high-in-the-night F/Xs. Gotta love that.

Carlos- LOL!!!!! Let go of my purse! :)

Carlos, you were definitely at the top of your game on this one! Your asides are priceless. Perhaps your title should have been: Warning! Put down your hot beverages, lest they end up all over your computer! (And up your nose!)

My problem with Mari is that she doesn't trust Eman. She couldn't confront him way back when Ilitia and Kristel set him up, she wouldn't read his letters, now she won't tell him who she is. No trust... That little item won't stop the wedding in the gran final, though.

I agree with whoever pointed out that Ilitia seems to be the only one who isn't attracted to Eman as LdeP. Hmmmmm......

Hi, Stephi. What fun having you join us. The characters with multiple identities can be a bit confusing, even to those very same characters. Marianela/Victoria seems very close to having a melt-down. As Audrey points out in her comment, she has become jealous of herself. The guilt that Victoria was expressing over having betrayed her BFF Marianela cried out to me to be mocked but I resisted because it almost seemed like taunting the mentally handicapped. I'm not all that impressed with the actress playing Marivick, but she must be doing something right because as ridiculous as it was, she seemed to be genuinely anguished.

I wonder if Emanuel de Plata is going to have some inner conflicts now that eLdP has developed a taste for Vicky's kiss?

Vivi, when I went to find that clip, I watched it to make sure it was what I wanted to link to and found myself laughing just as hard as I did the first time I saw it. Can you imagine the look on Orangeboy's face if Vicky had screamed,"I don't know you! Let go my purse!" and then kicked him in the nethers?

Carlos

I think Emanuel has always loved Marianela more than she loves him, even back in the beginning when she was writing mushy stuff about him in her diary and he hadn't yet realized he was in love with her. He trusts her, protects her, and is always reluctant to believe anything bad about her. Meanwhile, she hasn't really progressed beyond her childhood crush, even if it now includes the occasional adult cositas. She doesn't trust him and is willing to make him suffer needlessly just to stick to her plan.

Hi, Emilia. Actually when I had finished the recap I thought it was rather dry but pretty good on detail. My CCs were excellent, so it was easy to follow the dialogue and render accurate translations.

Lack of trust seems to be the swizzle stick of every TN, but Marivick is taking it to a level only matched by la Monita's lack of trust in Mau (Gancho). Remember how we were all ready to ring her neck back then?

Carlos

Julia, it never occurred to me to compare the relative strengths of the love between Eman and Mari. This show has given a number of varied looks at love and how it happens. Almost a theme of falling in love with the very essence of a person rather than in a strictly romantic/sexual context. Manny's been in love twice, with Mari, the chunky cherub, and Vicky, the skinny bitch. Oliver fell in love twice, with Gretel and Manolo. I think I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Now, next will it be Vicky who has fallen in love with Eman (OK, I see the complexity here) falling in love with el Lirio de Plata?

Surely these shows aren't meant to make us think... are they?

Carlos

While looking up the Amarte a la Antigua serenade, heart in the sand beach scene from Dinero to compare it to Friday's heart in the sand on the beach love scene from TdA, I found this little snippet. It's our Kristel, known as Monica in Dinero, getting her fresa speak mocked by Ale. :) Very funny: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOvYZ_DxcS8&feature=related

Vivi, thanks for that link. That WAS Kristel. Fun to see Ale and Rafa again. Very funny. That scene was before I started watching Dinero. I can't believe I got so attached to that show and developed such an affection for the characters.

One development that I didn't emphasize but think is very important and should auger a lot of fun was Lo's threat to bring back Ilitia's birth mom. That prospect really seemed to disturb Muñeca and trouble Ilitia, so I'm guessing it's a certainty. I wounder if she's someone we already know or a new face. In any event, knowing Lorenzo, she'll be a stunner.

Carlos

Maybe Ilitia's mother is Angela!

Carlos- While watching that clip I realized one of the reasons why I loved Ale so much-- she was FUNNY! A funny heroine. When do we ever get that? "I thought BEE-ITCH meant something else."/"Yeah. It means playa in Enlgish." LOL!!! Went right over Kristel/Monia's head.

Carlos, thank you once again for a terrific recap and perfect screen shots.

I have to give Mari a lot of leeway for her actions. The poor thing has Jorge goading her on, Kristel and Ilitia's continual harrassment, Fedra's ongoing evilness, the King of Rape after her, Emil falling in love with her (Vicki) etc., etc. Hopefully, before long she can learn to trust those that love her.

The screen shot of Ilitia was priceless, she looked so smug. What in the world will she think when she finally finds out that her "Baby" is Lirio de Plata.

Rosemary

Hi Rosemary, thanks for the reminder of everything that's lined up against Marianela. Kristal and Ilitia are more like troublesome bugs that I think Marinela almost enjoys swatting. Fedra and Bernardo are deadly but she certainly is aware by now of how very dangerous they are. Super Mau should already be in jail and I fault Marianela for giving him the opportunities to work his nasty mischief. I also think that Mexico will be a much safer place once Julia opens up her lock shop. The prevailing open door policy in this show is mind-boggling.

Jeorge is a huge stumbling block. He is not evil, but his desire to make her his makes him a real liability.

I think that it's high time for her to step out as Marianela. Fedra already knows. Heck, even Max sees that as the best strategy. Unfortunately, I think that Victoria has emerged as another significant (perhaps her most formidable) opponent. It sounds awful, but maybe we should start chanting KILL VICKY!

Carlos

Carlos thanks for your wonderful recap. Your running commentary and NEXT make me laugh as others have noted.

And thanks for the King of the Hill clip (that I had not seen). I'm so glad I've found another fan! The TN reference hare hilarious! Though I haven't lived in TX, my parents and almost all of my large extended family does. We would visit often and my sister and I found the humor in King fantastic. I was so disappointed in Fox ending it b/c the show was also a good satire and in my opinion unmatched by most of the other 'toons in the Sunday night line up.

Carlos, thank you for the fantastic recap! I loved it. This was a great episode absolutely jam-packed with action and you did a wonderful job of enhancing all the antics.

You said: "Isn't it odd that Ilitia is just about the only female not attracted to el Lirio de Plata?" Now that you mention it, hell yeah it IS odd!! Heh, and it just proves that she doesn't truly love Eman after all. Please don't ask me to explain why it proves it but I think y'all get my drift.

I loved the scene where little Christian reached out to Kristel for a big fat hug. Yep, he's definitely daddy's son, completely uninterested in most everything (except toys and food) but introduce a babe and he's all arms.

Finally, we got some background on El Lirio de Plata the yacht and the infamous Chema. I was wondering what had happened. Way back when I believe I was incredulous that Eman was a noble El Lirio; I had assumed his papa was somehow a bad guy. I stand corrected and in true telenovela fashion the blood will out. Cool.

Thanks again Carlos!

P.S. Thanks to Judy and Audrey for your recaps. I left a comment on each of your recaps. Audrey, you're a dear for helping out. I'll be out again this Thursday but should be back for good next week.

Carlos, you thought this was dry? I thought it was a perfect, wonderfully-written, hilarious recap, suitable for framing and hanging on the walls of the Caray Recap Hall of Fame. Splendid job! I laughed all the way through.

I was pretty surprised to see that Bernardo killed the original Fedra. I had had all my money on it being Fedra v2.

Cap'n Sylvia, you got that right. In TeleNovelaLand, the blood WILL always out.

Aribeth, thanks for the TVyNovelas recap. :)

Carlos: I'm not sure what was more mesmerizing - your pictures or your recap. Both were simply splendid.

I so enjoyed your translating the various conversations. I agree that all of your already quoted lines were excellent.

I'm glad Emanuel inherited his giving spirit from his father, who by now is by all accounts an honorable man.

I loved your noting Bernardo is "mechanical". A perfect description.

I can't imagine how long Vicki is going to deny telling Eman who she is.

I also have no doubt Brandon will be accompanying Ilitia. Has he (nor anyone) ever denied her? :)

Thank you Carlos. You truly are the master.

Diana

Good morning Karen, Sylvia, Maggie, and Diana.

Aribeth, thanks for the update on the awards show. The only winning performance that I saw was Fernando Colunga in STuD. I think that it's interesting that he was voted the best. Juan Carlos Barreto must be spectacular in PVaA if he beat out Sergio Goyri in STuD. I wonder if we'll be seeing that on Univision?

Karen, thanks for the kind praise. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I'm always happy to find fans of King of the Hill. For us here in Texas it was often uncomfortably true to life, but always hilarious.

Sylvia, I also thought that Cap'n Sevilla was a bad guy and was really not, until just recently, expecting them to bring him back to life. He almost has to team up with his hijo now that he's back. I do wonder if he has some sort of illness since he's told several people that he's dying.

Carlos

Carlos- PVaA starts on Uni tomorrow night at midnight. The last night of La Verdad Oculta is tonight and PVaA replaces it. Yes, Televisa's best novela of the year is being put on the graveyard shift. My dvr is cued up.

I'm disappointed Azela (Fedra) didn't win for best villainess.

Maggie, wow, you are so kind. I'm blushing. I'm not surprised that it was Bernardo who killed Fedra. I wonder if he will bookend his career by killing Fedra again? Bernardo has carried out most of Fedra's dirty work though she did go hands on with Tia Carlota.

Diana, I was actually thinking about you as I was translating Fedra's session with Angela. I was especially intrigued by Angela's line:

"Cierra los caminos con su maldad (Change your evil ways)."

which initially was a bit confusing because she had just mentioned that the caminos of Eman and José M will cross.

Carlos

Carlos

Thanks, Vivi. I think that I'll also take a look at PVaA. I'm guessing that the folks recapping lVO since is is supposed to be so good.

Carlos

I just checked the Tivo listings and it looks like Para Volver a Amar starts tomorrow night (3/9) at midnight. I wonder why, since it won all those awards, it is stuck in the midnight slot?

Oops, Vivi beat me to the punch while I was watching the King of the Hill link that Carlos posted.

I am also very annoyed that Azela didn't win. (But hooray for Fernando Colunga!)

Sylvia- There is no rhyme or reason for the scheduling. LVO is also an excellent telenovela. There is no reason at all why two such fantastic novelas would be banished to the midnight hour, while snoozfest Triunfo del Amor is on in the prime 9pm slot.

Carlos- We LVO recappers are hanging up our recapping hats for now. Midnight is just too hard. So PVaA will not be recapped. But I think most of us LVO folks are planning on watching PVaA.

Was LldA in competition for those awards? Then Rocío Banquells (Cuando me enamoro) must be very evil. If Azela Robinson was nominated, then I'm also very disappointed that she didn't win.

Is midnight now Univision's new prime time?

Carlos

Azela was nominated. That's why it's shocking that she didn't win! The Cuando me Enamoro female baddie must have been REALLY evil.

Hate it that our Fedra didn't win. When she offed Tia Carlotta that was the Best Murder Ever!

HI Judy, How's your eye?

Mike had his second cataract surgery a week ago and is doing fine. I think about you every time he has to put in his drops.

Count me in as head-scratching these awards. That must be one special TN to sweep like that, but then again, I've seen years when you had to wonder if anyone was actually watching the shows and performances that won versus the ones who didn't.

Be interesting to see everyone's take on it. But though I'm a night person, midnight isn't what I call prime time. What is with Univision lately?

daisynjay: In mexico and in the huge subcluture of telenovela-addicts the results of TVyNovelas are very important, for example, I'm Hungarian, but all my TN-lovers friends watched it on stream and we are discussing it right now. :)

However, everyone knows it's about politics and friendships. Silvia Navarro wasn't even nominated last year because one of the organizers didn't like her.
This year STD was the most interesting topic. It's entertaining but it isn't high quality, it had mediocre ratings in Mexico but was successful all around the world. The producer and the protagonists are important, powerful stars at Televisa, therefore the show had to win at least one of the three most important awards: best telenovela or one of the protagonists.

- Best telenovela: PVAA had huge critical success in Mexico so it was a nice touch to give it the award.
- Best female lead: Lucero already has 1000000 awards, and Angelique Boyer did a wonderful job in Teresa, moreover, Teresa had very high ratings.
- There's only one category left: the best male lead, therefore the jury decided to give the award to Colunga. TN-viewers who aren't Colunga fans were outraged at this because Sebastián Rullí was very good in Teresa, but Fernando is the most important male actor of Televisa right now.

Carlos:
Juan Carlos Barreto must be spectacular in PVaA if he beat out Sergio Goyri in STuD.

Yeah... I would've given the award to the magnificent Goyri, but I'm glad that the underdog in that category. He played Alejandra Barros's brutal, abusive husband.

Thanks for providing us with this information Aribeth. Interestingly, the magazine, TVyNovelas, has been mentioned and represented a number of times in this TN with less than deep respect.

Carlos

I spent the day hunting on Youtube for a scene from King of the Hill that I thought that you guys would appreciate but they seem to have removed it. I did however find find the entire episode which is absolutely hilarious. It involves a school field trip to Mexico guided by Peggy Hill who is a substitute Spanish teacher. It is episode 3 Lupe's Revenge. It is worth the 20 or so minutes it takes to watch.

Carlos

That's one of the few King of the Hill episodes I've seen and it is HILARIOUS! Definitely worth watching.

Carlos, what an entertaining recap, PLUS I'm very grateful that you took the time to insert the Spanish words/meanings. What a great help as I'm learning the language! Many thanks!

Thanks Sandy. I'm very glad that you enjoyed the recap and delighted that you commented. I have to give credit to Univision for providing us with excellent CCs these days which makes it an easy task to insert the Spanish words into the recap. With an entertaining show like this, great captions, and an appreciative audience like we have here, recapping is a sheer pleasure. I owe a debt of gratitude to Hombre de Misterio for talking me through (via Email) the process of capturing and applying the photos even though we use different computer formats.

Carlos
