Triunfo del Amor #120-121 5/20/11 P. 1. A Stab In The Back From Mama!, P.2. Bound To Be Found?

A Stab In The Back From Mama! P.1
Capítulo #120

Rudy Padilla makes a phone call to Dona Demente de Iturbide to inform her that he’s just seen a billboard with a picture of some lady holding the baby they took the other night.  Burnie races down to see for herself.

Across town, Lush-ous Leonela tries ordering up another bottle of booze for herself and finds out that Max has left orders that she’s not to get a single drop more.  She complains to the night clerk.  Don’t they know who they’ve got in this room?  It’s the great Leonela Montenegro!  Sorry.  They’ve never heard of her, click!

Max, Alonso and Maria are at her place in the vecindad and all out of ideas.  Max says thanks for your help Lonnie Boy, but we don’t need you here any longer, and since Maria needs to rest why don’t you make like a tree and leave?  Lon says nope, I’m sticking around till Maria tells me to go!  Maria tells them both to stuff it. She’s sick and tired of their arguing every time they’re in sight of each other.  The baby’s missing and they’ve got better things to do and to worry about --at least she does!

Since she’s run clear out of the booze Guillermo brought her, Looni-ella flies into a drunken rage and starts destroying the tacky furniture.

More territorial quibbling between Max and Lonnie. Lon’s sticking around out of friendship and duty; that kid means just as much to him since he took care of Maria all the time she was carrying it--just in case Max doesn’t remember cuz Max was AWOL all that time.  Max says thanks, but I’m where I’m supposed to be now!  Lon sticks to his guns and says nice, but I’m not goin’ anywheres and you can’t make me.

Max gets an anonymous crank call from Scorpion Dude and Rudy, who start yucking it up in a park somewhere once Max hangs the phone up.  Rudy says he’s gettin’ some of his own back from the Sandovals by taking it to Marvelous Max over his missing kid. (Morons!)

Maria comes back out from the bedroom and finds out about the crank call.  She loses patience with evil morons having so much fun at her expense.  Another call comes in to Max.  This time it is about his bio-mom and her alcoholic tantrums.  Lon is surprised to find out that Lionela Montenegro is Max’s real mother; he remembers the sexy photos he took of her for her portfolio.  (Please tell me she didn’t go to bed with him, too!)  Max leaves to see about Looni.  Lonnie stays to lend Maria emotional support.

Meanwhile, Pepino’s nemesis comes over to Casa Victoria to give him grief.  FF>>

Fabian and Fernanda meet with handsome Dr. Heriberto Rios Bernal at the P.T. clinic to discuss the facilities Fer would use after her operation if she decides to have it.  Handsome Heri also learns that Fer and Fab are not an item, just good friends still.  (Man-oh-man!  Does Cesar Evora still have “it” or what?  I could listen to that voice and look into those smiling, deep, dark eyes forever and a day.  ¡Hiiiiiiijole!)

Max arrives at the hotel Looni’s staying in and is upset to find out that guilty Gui got by the guy at the front desk by telling them he was Osvaldo Sandoval’s BFF and that he apparently brought booze up to Mama as a house-warming gift.

Gui is, meanwhile, fingering a 7” dagger and cursing out his Lush-ous.

Max has found the empty booze bottles and sees the overturned furniture.  He tells Looni that she’s got a drinking problem and he’s going to take her to a place that can help her get cured, because otherwise she will lose her career (not to mention her liver).  Looni panics at the thought of being locked up anywhere again and begs Max not to do it. Help her get cured, but don’t lock her up!

A bit later, Lon gets another crank call on his cell phone while he and Maria are in the park watching the kids playing with their mothers.  Lon lends his shoulder to the forlorn Maria.  FF>>

Burnie arrives at Mama Lulu’s and tells her that her picture’s up on billboards and she’s not to go out of the apartment for any reason or she’ll end up in jail for sure!  Mama Lulu whines that Burnie told her they weren’t doing anything illegal.  (Apparently Lulu is also a few bricks short of a full stack.)  Something must have gone wrong, says Burnie.

Padres Jeronimo and Juan Pablo are in the sacristy discussing JP’s mother’s devilish acts, now confirmed by Fausto.  PJP says he hasn’t the strength to deal with his mother’s errant and murderous soul and he’s too filled with shame.  Nothing he’s said to date has touched her heart or changed her mind.  She remains unrepentant. Padre Jerry offers to try talking to her one last time.

While Mama Lulu goes to change JPito’s diaper, Burnie notices the blue blanket and grabs for it.  She’s determined that, despite the pain it might cause her son, nobody will ever see little JPito again!  Once she’s back in her limo, she tells the driver to take her to Children’s Hospital.  Lulu, afterwards, can’t figure out why the blue blanket is missing and has her two grandsons help her look for it.

Back at the PT Clinic’s Doctor’s Building, Handsome Dr. Heri looks at a picture of himself with his beautiful wife and children and then fights back the tears.

At Casa de los Scandal-val that morning, Fernanda tells Oz that she’s a candidate for an operation that hopefully will help her walk again.  Oz notices that she’s a bit hesitant and asks if she isn’t worried about it a bit.  Fer says she’s afraid to get her hopes up.  Oz thinks there’s something else and she admits to not being able to decide between Cruz and Fabian since she is interested in both of them.

Fab tells Lucy that as long as Max and Maria’s son is still missing that he’ll have to postpone the surprise he has for Fer that she devised for him to use to win over Fer.  He also mentions the operation that would allow Fer to walk again.  Fab lets loose with a long sigh and says he hopes that Lucy would never have to suffer like he has for unrequited love.  She just smiles and looks wistfully at him over her glass of Chablis.

Back in the bowels of the barrio, Milagros tells Napo she doesn’t feel like working at the cantina with the baby still missing.   Nathy and Juanjo show up and tell the two of them about their being engaged while the Wedding March is trumpeted in the background by imaginary musical elves.  FF>>
We beam to the Children’s Hospital where Burnie is conspicuously trying to look inconspicuous, sporting a black coat and a hideous, bright orange Jack-o-lantern scarf, complete with a Halloween witch perched on the back of it.  Burnie overhears a doctor tell a nurse there’s a sick six-month old baby that someone left abandoned in the park.  It’s in some room down the hall and so Burnie sneaks down to it and leaves the blanket on the baby while nobody’s looking.  Then she calls Maria from a pay phone, disguises her voice like an electronic distortion device, and tells her that there is an abandoned baby at the Children’s Hospital with a blanket on it that looks like that abandoned baby on the billboard.

Word spreads around the vecindad and back at the Scandal-val’s that J Pito has supposedly been found.

Handsome Dr. Heriberto, aka Handsome Heri, meets with Oz and Fer regarding the possible operation.  Oz asks him about his family and Heri replies sadly that his family died many years ago in an accident.

Back at Casa Victoria the Redux, we have another shameless plug for Sedal hair products from Pepi and some model who seems hot to trot for him.

Back at Handsome Dr. Heri’s office, we get a bit of sermonizing that “pain is what humanizes us”.....  Finally we get to the meat of the matter: Fer has compressed nerves at the site of the injury......

Padre Jerry makes his promised visit to Burnie’s to try once more to get her to repent for her murderous past.  Burnarda says that she knows which way in life is proper and doesn’t need Jerry’s divine guidance to find it, let alone follow it.  She then makes a veiled threat on his life.  He says he’ll go with a clean conscience if and when the Good Lord takes him.  Too bad she won’t be able to enjoy the glory of Heaven when she dies.  One more thing, says Jerry.   “--I am certain that you have Maria Desamparada’s son!  Only you hate enough to do such a despicable thing, but the time is coming that Dios in His glory will punish you by getting you right where it hurts you the most!  Then you will know what it is like to suffer the same way you’ve made others suffer!”  He’ll pray for her and she takes another sip of her sherry.  She screams for Eva and has her contact Scorpion Dud for another job.

Mama Lulu and her grandsons take a nighttime walk to the nearest payphone.

Burnie orders Scorpion Dud to do a hit on someone.  He swears Dios Himself won’t be able to save the poor sucker.  By the time they find the doomed party, it will have been too late.

Later that evening, Padre JP is lost in prayer in the candle lit sacristy--supposedly sooooooo dark that El Alacran can’t tell white hair from black when he tiptoes in, pulls his knife out and stabs him in the back.  Down goes PJP and El Alacran realizes he’s just killed Padre Juan Pablo!

End P.1.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bound To Be Found?
Capítulo 121  P.2.
Mama Lulu has just called Padre Juan Pablo.  She hears the commotion as he’s stabbed and Scorpion Dud realizes he’s just stabbed and probably killed PJP.  “--I killed Padre Juan Pablo!  I killed Padre Juan Pablo!”
Max and Maria suit up and walk into the room of the abandoned baby, uncover its face, and cry into each other’s arms when they realize it’s not their child.  It was the right blanket, but the wrong baby.  They sadly discover that their son isn’t the one in the hospital.
Bernarda congratulates herself and tells Eva that eventually all her enemies will be out of the way.  Eva smiles but inwardly thinks to herself it won’t be long till it’s Burnie’s turn to face the fires of theirs and Victoria’s revenge.
Padre Jerry finds Padre JP seriously wounded, but still breathing.  For once in a telenovela he’s got the good sense to call for an ambulance first and then linger over the injured party! He also makes note of the bloody knife used to attack PJP and that PJP’s cell phone is lying next to him.  Jerry even tries calling back the last number to see if anybody answers on the other end who might have heard something.  (You’ve done G.K. Chesterton  proud, Jerry.)  Unfortunately, it’s a payphone and none of the passersby want to answer it.
Scorpion Dud meets up with Rudy at the local cantina and tells him about killing Padre JP instead of the other person Burnie had told him she wanted sliced and diced.  Padilla grabs him by the collar and tells him what a very fine mess he’s gotten them into now with the fermented Dona Demented.  “--It was dark and there were only a few candles lit.  He was kneeling down and praying and I took advantage of the moment.”  Padilla is even more disgusted.  “--You killed him while he was praying??”  Dona Burnarda is going to kill you, but first I’M going to kill you!”  El Alacrán talks him out of it by reminding him he’s the only other one who knows the combination to her safe.
Poor Mama Lulu now realizes Burnarda’s gotten her into a lulu of a mess, now, too. She doesn’t know whether to tell Burnie or the police what she heard on the phone when she made that call about the baby boy.  She prays for answers.  (Viewerville can only hope the virgencita’s phone doesn’t go over to voice mail this time.)
El Alacrán tells Rudy he needs a place to hide out.  Rudy says he knows a place.  Alacrán says he first needs to stop by the vecindad to get some of his things.  Rudy warns him against drawing attention to himself [hacerse el interestante] and asks him what’s so important. Alacrán says that’s his business!  [eso a mi me incumben]
Burnie is in the middle of a bad dream where she reviews most of the murders she’s committed over the years while Padre Jéronimo tries reaching her by phone.  She wakes up with a fright and has a premonition that Juan Pablo is in danger.
At the same time, JP is being wheeled into the operating room.
At the Children’s Hospital Maria and Max tell Lon and Nat that it wasn’t their baby after all.  Nobody understands how it could be the right blanket and the wrong baby.
Back at the other hospital, the ER doc in charge tells Padre Jerry that fortunately, there were no injured internal organs, but JP has lost lots of blood.  They need to stabilize him.
Fausto is outside the vecindad waiting and watching as Alacrán tries sneaking away.  Fausto accuses him of stealing the baby boy, but again Alacrán denies it and tells him to keep out of it.  He realizes Fausto’s interested because he’s in love with the baby’s mother and mocks Fausto --not a wise thing for Scorpion Dud to do. There’s a deep-doodoo discussion between the two regarding free love, love freely given and not so freely given, but taken.....Alacrán suggests Fausto go off with him and he’ll help him get Maria while he takes Nathy.  Fausto accuses him of being Nat’s masked stalker. Fausto tries choking him, Alacrán pulls Fausto’s knife out of his waistband, there’s a scuffle and Alacrán gets stabbed.  He runs away in the nick of time.  The neighborhood hears the commotion and starts to come out to see what’s what.  Fausto hides the knife back in his jacket pocket.
Padre Jerry comes to tell Burnie the bad news.  She flies into a panicked rage.  She had a premonition!  They head to the hospital where she insults all the attendings and the nurses.  Take her to her son!  She has a right to demand anything she wants and she wants to see her son!  The head nurse tells her to calm down first.  (I’d have been ready with a needle and a straight jacket myself.  This gal did it without --just a stare and a steady voice!   I found myself admiring her nurse’s nerves of steel.)
At Casa Scandal-val Max calls to tell Oz and Vicki the bad news.  Vicki loses it cuz it’s been three whole days and no news!  Now this!  First her daughter and now her grandson!  She demands to be left alone and then goes back to the box of little Maria’s trinkets and picture.  Maria is disconsolate and weeping also.  Two mother’s repeating the same tragedy of sorts at the hands of the same evil woman.......  Vic starts praying again and is hit with an attack similar to Burnie’s, but with no idea why.  She prays that Dios doesn’t take her before she has one last chance to find and reunite with her long lost Maria.
In Padre JP’s hospital room,  he’s begun to regain consciousness.  Padre Jerry starts telling him what happened and how he was stabbed.  Burnie immediately realizes it was the hit meant for a different priest--for Jerry!  Fortunately for Burnie, JP admits he never managed [alcanzar] to see his attacker.
More Max and Maria crying to each other.  Lonnie and Nat leave to give them their space.  FF>>
Lon tells Nat that he’s going looking himself for the baby cuz he’s tired of no results and seeing Maria at her wit’s end with worry.  He’s not coming back, either, until he’s got the boy in his arms.  He figures out the general area the baby must be in and then starts brainstorming.
Jerry wonders aloud why PJP would have been attacked since he has no enemies.  Suddenly it hits him that he does, though!  Burnarda!  She turns around and yells at him for insinuating that it was her.  At the top of her lungs she threatens Padre Jerry with going to the arch bishop. (No, Burnie, it doesn’t work that way!  The louder and longer you scream does not correlate inversely to the amount of criminal activity they can blame you with.)  JP tells Mama it’s not the time or place for arguments like this.
Burnie’s screaming so loudly that the doctor and the nurse come into the room to remind her there are other sick patients in the hospital besides her son.  Burnie tells him to pretty much stick it where the sun don’t shine.  What right has he to tell her what to do?  Zippo!  Zilch!  Nada!! What’s more, she’s taking her son out of their care and out of that hospital immediately!  Like they could care at this point, but they give it the old college try for “Las Reglas!” [the rules]  She tells them she could give a rat’s furry patoot for “Las Reglas!”  It’s her son that she’s more worried about!  (Damn!  We can only imagine what life was like growing up in her house and who really wore the pants in that place.  Sheesh!)  The doc in charge has told her what she risks by taking him out so he washes his hands of the mess and of her.
Meanwhile, Lon goes looking for PJP.  He realizes that Maria won’t ever fall in love with him.
Oz stops by the vecindad to give Maria and Max more emotional support.  M and M worrying about living through what Victoria lived through, and Vicki prays that Maria doesn’t, either.
Outside Cruz is crooning as the payphone starts ringing.  Fausto mentions that El Alacrán has run off like the snake in the grass that he is.  Cruz answers the phone.  The guy on the other end tells him he’s in the final 10.  There’ll be a sing-off to determine the winner.  “¡Aye Yay Yay!”
Later that night, Fer rolls into Vicki’s room with Maria’s old dolly and the two commiserate and we all share another keep-the-faith moment.
The next day Lonnie ends up at Ste. Burnarda’s looking for Padre JP. Yes,he’s ill but is staying there and since Lon is Casa Bernarda’s official photographer and isn’t yet on Ste. Burnie’s “Eat sh!t and die!” list, she lets him visit.  Lon tells JP about his idea to find his grandson and gets the go-ahead from him.  (Viewervile notes that a priest that looks that good in his jammies is sinful!)
Back in the vecindad, Max, Maria, and the rest of the neighborhood light candles for Maria’s missing baby boy.  FF>>
In the meantime, Lon puts his idea to work.  He has a bunch of baby blue balloons with JPito’s picture from the flier blown up and starts giving them out to the kids on the street in the neighborhood he believes the lady in the billboard picture must live.
Sure enough, Mama Lulu’s grandsons show up wanting a balloon.  They get scared when Lon notes that that’s the baby staying in their home.  He runs after them and manages to grab them.  They take him to their home to speak with their grandmother.
Mama Lulu has just seen the plea on tv that Oz made for his grandson’s return and realizes that’s the little boy she’s been keeping.  (Thanks for nothin’, Burnarda!)  The only one with her nose dirty is Mama Lulu!  What will become of her grandsons?  Suddenly, there’s a knock on Mama Lulu’s door.  When she opens it with J Pito in her arms, there’s Lonnie with her grandsons.  As for Lon, he’s all smiles!
Please post this to the sidebar, somebody? Thanks! Part 2 may not appear until tomorrow.
Thanks for the recap, Jardi! When speeches go long, my comprehension gets short. You always come through with a couple of laughs too.
I love your recap. I just do not understand why Maria has to wear those terrible shoes to go searching for Juan Pabilito.
Thank you Jardinera for keeping us on track. Wonderful summary -- I love everything you have written about Leonela who has earned an "ugh" from me on multiple scores.
I had this memory that Christina in EPDA (our Maria) had a baby girl, not a boy. I looked at the old resumes today and that is correct. Also, the Ximena lost her baby due to her bad behavior.
There are so many other changes in this version that these are scarcely worth mentioning, but since the babies have become my favorite part of the show, thought I'd add this information.
It does add more symmetry to the story for Maria/Christina to have a girl in terms of reproducing Victoria's experience. Christina became a designer as well, BTW.
Seeing Cesar last night was like meeting a beloved old friend on the street in a strange city. He's been in some bad novelas, some by our friend Mejia, but still seems above it all. As you say, that voice, those eyes.
Thank you, Jardinera! A wonderful recap!
Where is Burnie going with the baby blanket? Does she think M & M are so dumb they won't recognize their own baby? Although I have to admit that when they were smiling at the baby before we knew his face was covered I was afraid that very thing had happened. But back to Burnie, what was she trying to accomplish?
ITA about Cesar. I only hope his character can throw some luck toward the Sandovals. Quite honestly, I don't know how that family gets out of bed in the morning! Especially Max!!! He needs to read "co-dependent no more" and say goodbye to the crazy, drug and booze addled females para siempre!!!
I've been hard on Alonso when he was in stalker mode but snaps for him for being the one cool head under pressure. Where are the police?! Why aren't they all over Lulus picture, combing the streets looking for HER!!!
I still love this show, warts and all!
Katy
Great stuff--can't wait for Part 2--with PPJP in PJ's--I'd tuck him in anytime.
Glad he made it. Viewerville knew he would--and with surprisingly little blood spilled for a knifing - sort of like Regina just suffered in CME. Maybe Televisa is all out of chocolate syrup these days.
Jardinera - Thank you for the recap of part 1.
"Lon is surprised to find out that Lionela Montenegro is Max’s real mother; he remembers the sexy photos he took of her for her portfolio. "
If Alonso took pics of Leonela, how long was she in prison? ( > veinte años , or more?) How old would that make Alonso? At least 40 y/o? This would make him a cradle robber by stalking MynD.
Ah, Cesar, Cesar, Cesar...Oh, was there some other stuff on too? gees, must have been in LaLaLand with my favorite voice. Thanks for filling in the details, Jardinera.
Actually have to catch the rest of this online too - felt a lousy cold coming on and headed to sleep. Hoping PJP's jammies are open collar!
Great part one. Can't wait for part two. I'll post to the sidebar after this comment.
How much damage with Burnie do before Padre Jero and PJP notify the authorities? Thank goodness Alonso is around because he is the ONLY one that takes action and gets results.
Alonso took picture of Leonela the other day when Gui took her to get portfolio pictures. She tried to get all sexy during the shoot and he told her he doesn't do those kind of pics. She settled down after that.
Vivi in DC - Oh good.... I'm glad Alonso's shoot of Leo is recent.
I am going to guess that Padre Jeronimo may get killed off. Someone has to die soon... it's been awhile and I think we are due.
Aren't we over novela quota for hospital scenes?
Osvaldo - 2
Victoria - 2
Fernanda - 1, soon to be 2
Maria - 1
Jimena - ?
Padre JP - 1
Hi y'all. P.2 is up now.
Actually, isn't this PJP's second visit to the hospital? Didn't Alacran beat him up waaaay back when Maria Magdalena was around?
Thanks Jardinera! Great part one.
Looks like two hour eps next week, too.
Fabulous part two!
"Rat's furry patoot" made me smile.
Say what you will about Lon, he is a man of action and gets things done!
I forgot about the kid at the beginning that Max bought a machine for.
hospital scenes
kid - 1
Osvaldo - 2
Victoria - 2
Fernanda - 1, soon to be 2
Maria - 1
Jimena - ?
Padre JP - 2
Variopinta and Sara,
We also had:
LindaHo - 1
Alma - 1 (birth scene)
Juanjo and Israel after fire - 1+
Didn't Pipino make a comment about all the time the Sandovals were spending in the hospital? Something like - "They should have their own wing"?
Thanks, Jardinera! Terrific job, as always!
Thanks, Jardinera. Lots of funny bits for our weekend enjoyment.
PJP in jammies--hot, hot, hot.
Lon may have his annoying moments, but he deserves credit for thinking and acting. While all the others are crying and praying, he's coming up with an innovative idea. (Prayer's good, but the Lord helps those who help themselves.) And it worked!
Yes, many hospital scenes. Looneyvision must have an excess of hospital gowns and caps in stock, needed to use them up.
La Paloma
It's been many, many weeks since I have been able to watch any capitulos or even read the re-caps, but this past Friday, I had the time to watch both "Teresa" and "TdA"
I am struck by the very distinct contrasts between the two TN.
While Angelique Boyer does absolutely nothing for me (I don't know why...she reminds me of a little monkey), one can clearly see the subtle, but significant changes in the character relative to who she was in the beginning of the TN (which I was able to catch for a bit).
Each of the characters (with a few exceptions wrt what I call the 'filler' subplots) continue to grow. There seems to be less of the usual TN fare, but more of a story that has a clearly thought out plan. Imagine...story with a definite plot, goal, and plan!
While it seems that part of the goals of the TN is to simply be populated by a bunch of beautiful people, it would seem that the "Teresa" actors actually have the opportunity to show their acting skills (or even lack thereof).
TdA, on the other hand, seems to be populated by many beautiful people in search of their characters.
Having been away for so long, I was particularly taken by Oz and Fer. Rios and Brito seem to be the only ones truly solid in their roles. I wonder how hard it must be for them and the other actors to come to grips with the one dimensional characterisations with which they are forced to deal.
There are many skilled actors on TdA,but I don't see that they are given the opportunity to act. I don't think this would have been so apparent to me if not for having seen the latest happenings on "Teresa".
Tacher's character has been reduced to nothing more than a 'respectable' stalker.
It is absolutely painful to watch Perroni when she cries! That endless squinting is simply not believable. In fact, she held very little interest for me during the Friday capitulo. It was the Fer storyline and Padre JP who really interested me the most.
Olivera speaks with his eyes and I love it! Am not too impressed with his real life wife in Monica Ayos (I believe that is her name) and would hardly call her an actriz, but she provides the requisite boobs and rear end with the crazy long hair that seem to be necessary for a TN.
For Uni to have stated at one time that Perroni was ruling the airwaves was really ridiculous. She is simply not up there in talent relative to Brito, Klitbo, or Boyer. She seems more like a teen ingenue (even ingenue seems too sophisticated a description for her)than a 'woman' with a complex story line.
I was particularly dismayed to see that the Nathi character has been dumbed down in order to be paired with the the Mexican National Hero, Blanco. OY! What a waste...what an absolute waste! It would have been so nice to see what a hard working woman who has supported her family from afar and who also managed to be the first educated female in her family accomplish besides ending up with with the JuanJo FOOL. What a disappointment for this character.
X-Factor's lifeless stare has not changed one bit. One can only hope that she pays for her actions.
I'm glad that Oz was allowed to show his handsomely chiseled face in this TN and not have it hide behind the perennial 5 o'clock shadow that now appears to be TN de rigeur.
I can only hope that it appears painfully obvious to the powers that be that the writing in "Teresa" is far superior to what Meh-jia has produced in TdA. These are such capable actors who deserved so much more.
Susanita
yep, Mejia can reduce the acting ability of anyone to that of Mickey Mouse.
One thing that puzzled me, well actually several things, was how Lon knew to go to Bernie's looking for PJP. I don't remember a single scene where either Bernie or Jerry made a call to spread the word, yet Lon and later Os and Vic show up at the right place. I honestly thought when the doc said PJP had lost a lot of blood that he would turn out to have a rare type and only Maria could donate there by giving Vic yet another clue but no just another wasted moment.
Vic almost tipped her hand that there is something wrong with her when she was carrying on about not living to see her daughter and fearing she wouldn't see JPito again.Os picked up on it and asked her what was wrong but she immediately went into I've got a secret mode and cut him off.
Lon is obviously the only one around who is thinking. M & M spend way too much time moaning and crying and they do nothing to try and find the baby. Os went to TV, Fer hit the internet, Lon got the posters and balloons going while the parents whine in a corner. I've been through this in my own family and the parents did everything possible to find their son and didn't sit around feeling sorry for themselves . M & M are too self absorbed but then again Maria's feet in those sky scraper heels may be too sore to face the idea of walking a few blocks.
Points to Jerry for calling for help first and I have say that he better watch his back. Bernie's performance in the hospital warranted the doc or nurse calling for security to throw her sanctimonious hysterical behind out of the hospital. She made two scenes to boot.
Susanita had to laugh at your comment vis a vis the stubble. Every novela these days has to have one or two of them. Perhaps Televisa is short of razors because the look doesn't improve any of the men involved.
I can' help wondering why the mention that Cesar's character had lost his wife and children in an accident and showing a picture. If he is just making a cameo appearance for a few episodes what was the purpose?
Dani
Jardinera - Thank you for part #2.
Scorpion Dud lol Good one.
So, is Cruz a contestant in Mexican Idol?
Aparently Maria and Max don;t know that JMP has been stabbed. I loved the part about not making the die list. Geronimo''s days are numbered.
Reasons Alonso is a better choice for Maria than Max.
1 It was Max fault the baby got kidnapped because he insisted in staying longer.
2 Max abandons Maria when she most needs him. ie. marrying Ximena, attending to his self-indulgent alcoholic bio mom, even when he is needed to attend the recovery line.
3 Alonso actually thinks in a crisis and recovered the baby.
4 The Woody Allen- Soon Yi Previn phenomena, true there is no biological red flag on their relationship, but it is a mockery of normal familial structure.
5 Unlike Max, Alonso seems to have a gainful job as opposed to going around renting apartments for random women.
I realize that everyone loves WL, but in real life this type fantasy world should yield to the guy who is actually there for her.
Esquip
Woody Allen --Sun Yi! LMAO Esquip!
Hey again! Thanks all for taking time to read and to comment. Terrific input again--but this is a terrific group to write for. Anywhoo, I am jumping in to agree with Esquip this time that Alonso isn't as much of a jerk as everybody wants to think. He may be clingy, but that doesn't IMNSHO necessarily mean he's a stalker!! He's a nudge at times, but he's a mensch. Not only did he come through for Maria and Max, but he's shown Max to be nothing more than a male blond bimbo with broad shoulders and long eye-lashes.
Jardinera i don't know how you're doing all of these recaps while baby sitting your grandbaby but thank you so much.
Is it even believable that any hospital would allow a person to rant and scream like Bernie did and not get her sedated immediately and possibly committed.
I loved the look on Padre Jerry's face as he realizes the hit was meant for him.
Bernie she's not even trying to hide her insane fanatical craziness anymore.
I guess we see why we had to put up with get a life Alonso for so long at least the guy has some brains which is more than i can say for the Scandaval gene pool.
Cesar oh my i just love this man's voice and his eyes are so beautiful too.
Susanita,
What a pleasure it is to see you commenting here once again! I've missed you.
Coming back to the novela after several weeks lends a new perspective, doesn't it? You make some good points about the weakness of the writing and the failure to develop the characters. I myself am a little more kindly disposed toward Maite, the actress. I think she has a likeability and warmth that allow her to transcend even crappy, repetitious dialogue. De gustibus:)
I hope you'll continue commenting here de vez en cuando, amiga!
I'm new of watching spanish novelas.
I was surfing over YouTube I found a video that Maria (MP) is in bed with Alonso (MT) does anyone knows if they were in another novela? If this scene is from TDA I will hate the way the producer took this road. I can't see Max not been with Maria after all.
Yes I hate also that he takes everyone's problems and didnt stand by MD when the baby was kidnapped.
I think Mama Lulu wins the prize for Dumbest Character of the Year. You see a poster with the baby's picture and a television appeal from a celebrity abuelo you don't ask yourself what you should do; you pick up the phone! You hear someone saying "I've killed Padre Juan Pablo" you pick up the phone!
I hope Alonso makes her talk on Monday. When that information gets back to the relevant people (no way would Alonso not tell this) Bernarda could face criminal charges.
Nati, nice though she is, has insufficient experience with men to realize that she is making the mistake of her life.
Cruz should win the competition, but I he needs to shave. I am really annoyed with Televisa typecasting Pablo Montero as a country bumpkin. He was so gorgeous in Duelo de Pasiones.
Note that the 5 o'clock shadow thing is popular among the younger actors; the mature ones all shave.
Welcome back Susanita! I agree with most of what you've said. TDA does tend to go in circles with its character development and not forward. I don't even mind that it is over the top and very stereotypical as a tn (not all can be like Teresa), but it just hasn't been done well. I think it is possible to have a good, exciting tn, that is also over the top and filled with cliches. Mejia obviously doesn't know how to do it.
The preview makes it seem like Alonso makes it look like the baby reappeared miraculously. I could see him doing that if he doesn't want Lulu (the dumbest tn character ever) to get in trouble.
Anon: Yes, Maité Perroni and Mark Tacher played a couple in another show before TDA. To recognize them (Vicente and Estela) from María and Alonso: His hair was shorter and he had no beard, he also was usually dressed in suits. Maité's character usually wore elegant work clothes too (their characteres were workmates), she is more, umm, forward in the love scenes than María Desamparada would ever be and there are no candles.
Thanks for answering my question. That explained all my concerns.
For a minute I thought I would stop watchig TDA.
As always great recap, the stabbing of our priest when he wants to be did take me by surprise. I am tuning to find out how Mama dearest is going to handle the situation.
I have to say what doesn't make sense to me is how can Max keep Maria living in such an area with all these loonies after them with little to no security? I understand that a points been made that Maria wants to show the world she can do it on her own, but give me a break!
I can watch this novela, but have difficulty watching Teresa, I ff through all of Teresa's scenes, and wish one episode she got standed in one of her schemes and they would focus on the others.
On another note anyone watching Zacatillo. Now that is one novela that quickly got to the point, and I hope it stays that way.
I disagree that Max abandoned Maria when she needed him most and married x- Due to this novela's problems with communication, Maria did not tell max she was pregnant, when he said X was and that he was going to get married. Back in a day that was the right thing to do. Had Maria said she was preg as well, he had a choice of which wone to marriage and support through the pregnancy. He can't be blamed for that one.
Here's a link to a promo for the Mujeres Asesinas 3 episode with Maite and Mark: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3G6MZ2D_T2I
By the way, what is happening to that show now that Uni has put a tn permanently in the 10 pm slot? They never showed all of season 3.
I wished I had watched this video first before I posted my question.
Since I watched the video that Maite and Mark in bed I had nightmare that was TDA.
I totally disagree sometimes with Max actions, his mother Leonia is in a nice place at least Maria's place is much nicer than before.I still don't understand why he lives Maria with Alonso when his baby still missing.
Dani: ...'short on razors...' Good one! Such handsome men with such scruffy faces!
NovelaMaven: !!Amiga!! Gracias! It seems like ages that I have been able to catch up on anything. My work schedule has been wretched, to say the least. Understand your points about Perroni, but her endless squinting just got on my nerves.
Vivi: Hola y gracias! Agree. Over the top can be so much fun when done well, but something is just 'missing'. Maybe I would not have noticed it so much if I had been able to watch regularly, but it was just like night and day watching "Teresa" and then TdA. I think that there can still be character development even with 'over the top'. I kept asking myself: "who in the world is this Lulu person?!"
UA: You are right. Nathi has no experience. What she sees in that Fool JuanJo is beyond me, but this man is going to offer her nothing in terms of the things that will sustain her in life (and I don't mean money, either).
I very much like Padre Jer. I don't want to see him hurt, but I fear he may not be long for this world.
Why are they doing 2 hour episodes? Are they trying to rush to the end of this TN?
Susanita
I think that Univision is doing 2-hour episodes to extend their high-ratings period. Historically their ratings dropped at 10PM after the novelas ended. Telemundo's Alguien te Mira probably drew enough viewers for a decline that only would have been the beginning of a trend prior to LRDS.
The only 10PM program on Univision that interested me was Mujeres Asesinas. I'm really upset that this hasn't come back yet.
I miss Mujeres asesinas also. Vivi, the link you gave has one of my favorites, Diana Bracho in it.
Susanita: Nice to see you back among us! I personally hope they are speeding up the fin to TDA in hopes they'll give us another blockbuster like Teresa which really does belong in the 8/9PM time slot.
Susanita i agree with Jardinera i do believe they are trying to end TDA as quickly as possible here possibly it won't be far behind the Finale in Mexico.
Jarocha has said it's flopping worst than CS2009 did and from what i have seen i am not surprised.Mejia has just ruined this version of it. I think the only good part is Daniela Romo's performance and the actor playing Padre Jeronimo.
Include me also in missing Mujeres Asesinas and i wish they would bring that back to conclude season 3.
Jardinera, thanks for this nifty recap. lots of funny stuff. Sorry to be so late reading and commenting. I spent most of the weekend outdoors... just wish that we'd get some rain.
I dislike Alonzo and still think that he is a stalker, but... my hat's off to him. He's really good in a crisis and does not stand around ringing his hands.
Catching that photo of JPito with Lulu was brilliant (miraculous). The billboard was great though I wonder if he showed that picture to the police first. They might have preferred waiting until they investigated a bit first.
This weekend I had one of the worst earworms that I've ever experienced. It was Cruz singing the one song that he knows, the one version that seems to exist... replete with all the missed notes... Yikes.
Well, I must admit that Leonela is certainly less appealing when she's drinking.
Susanita, good to hear from you.
Carlos
Just remembered something I forgot to post, which is my prediction for Leonela: Death from alcohol poisoning. When I saw her chugging the whiskey bottle it occurred to me that this is suicidal.
Which would be doing Max a big favor.
So fun reading all the comments from the weekend. Like Carlos, was out trying to enjoy a rare couple days of sun and warm. Today back to the rain...
Glad to hear this TN is tanking in Mexico. Perhaps the powers that be may be less reluctant to keep handing Meija blank checks to create this type of dreck and give it prime time. Such a waste of cast and air time. I keep tuning in just to see what happens with PJP and Fer...any patience I had with Maria and Max went the wayside in the way they mooned and whined while the baby went missing - what parent would really just sit around waiting for others to find their bambino - and where was the police in this thing?
Os was right, he came back for the children--the adults are not the brightest tacks in the world (and that goes for Vic too). I have to say the character of Max is one of the worst TN main galans I've seen written. I've only been watching shows for @ 5-6 years and I thought the little I watched of CS was bad. I'm not a big WL follower, but he should definitely delete this TN from his resume.
Oh and I thank the costume folks at least for giving PJP some open collar jammies. Thanks...we take little things in this TN in a big way.
Daisy
I've been watching novelas for over 15 years and Max is definitely the worst ever. Most galans have at least some smarts to go along with their usual stupidity but not Max. He is self absorbed and dumber than a rock. WL is no great shakes as an actor in anything I've ever seen but this is his worst performances ever. Unbuttoned shirts and shirtless scenes are no substitute for bringing depth to a character even one who is poorly written. He should learn from watching some of the pros he has worked with like Osvaldo Rios, Arturo Peniche and Cesar Evora who all know how to make lemonade out of lemons.
Blu: Actually, while this novela is doing horribly in México, TDA is getting the highest ratings out of all the novelas in Univision right now.
I'm with Urban Antrhopologist in that I also believe the two hour stint Univision has pulled was to keep the high ratings at the 10 pm slot. Telemundo was becoming a dangerous rival with the ratings La Reina del Sur pulled so they brought Teresa which was a hit in México expecting to do as well as it did here but TDA still had pulled better ratings so now they extended TDA's time instead.
Jarocha
I haven't seen this episode yet, but not understanding about the billboard. How did Lulu's picture get up on a billboard?
Jazzee, we are to believe that Alonso's camera was a Q invention stolen from James Bond so he could take a picture like that from a distance with a taxicab driving away.
I wish all you guys had Latele Novela Network so you could all watch the series I'm watching as I write this:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0451525/combined
I have a question, and I hope it's not so. Did they bring Cesar on to fill the same role he had in ENDA? They tried to get him to soften Carlota, are they going to give him that same shot to soften mamamaddest? I hope not, maybe he'll cure Max's mom? I know doctors in novelas specialize in everything, curing Fer, curing max's mom of alcoholism, trying to cure the mamamadest of her madaness? Or is he just here to fall in love with Victoria?
He's there to cure Fernanda. I was wondering whether he was going to play a monsignor or a bishop since he was the priest in EPDA.
This is my first telenovella. I actually like it better than Teresa which I have watched a few times. My Spanish is rudimentary, but what I understand just makes me want to slap her.
In TDA, I want to slap them too, but for different reasons. I guess I can tolerate stupidity and sobbing better than dumping your boyfriend for someone with a big house.
The doctor must be going to play some kind of romantic role, I think. Otherwise, we would not have found out about his family, right?
I just saw the news about the Joplin, MO tornado. I think Jardinera lives in MO but I don't know where. I hope you're safe, Jardinera!
