Triunfo del Amor #157 6/29/11 More Bare Bones: Sure doesn't feel like últimas semanas

Hey everyone, due to some minor but time-consuming dental issues today I didn't get to do the full-on, take-my-time dailymotion recap. Had to go old-school, notes-while-watching. I may have missed a metric sh!t ton a little.

Refrito
  • Max, Maria, choppy editing of luvin'
Tonight
  • Os is about to tell Vic the latest Gui/theater news when Fer and Cruz enter and tell them about today's surgery.
  • Gui pitches a fit about the closure. It's Os's fault.
  • Cruz will always be with Fer.
  • Gui still trippin'. Os my have won the the battle, but the war continues. It's a battle to the death. He'll either win or die. Leo realizes Gui is nuts.
  • The family heads for the hospital.
  • Maria is still being stubborn about Vic. Max still defends mama. William Levy still a mush mouth. Same whiny dialogue. I had not mommy wah wah wah. Vic makes me mad blah blah blah. But Max reminds her they're gonna get married and be happy. Os calls and tells Max they about operation. Max head to hospital. Maria goes with him....for her sister.
  • Gui runs into Felipe (?) the director. Scandals help the ratings, but he needs to know all the crap won't affect taping.
  • Dr. Voice is off to operate. Vic's motherly love with guide his hands.
  • Max and Maria arrive at hospital. Vic seems pleased Maria is there. Maria looks dubious.
  • PJP has finally arrived at the vecindad. He, Millie and Naop re-hash the last two or three episodes. He's gonna to to the hospital to see Maria. As he leaves he meets up with the "new, hip and improved idiot Don Joel" (a Jarocha make-over) who now has a motorcycle. He offers to take PJP to hospital. FF>>
  • Pip and Toni work and hope the operation is a success FF>>
  • PJP and Don Joel on moto. FF>>
  • Maria is praying in the chapel. She can't forgive Vic 'cause we still have 15 episodes to go. (And Univision is gonna make sure we're watching this basura until August.)
  • Vic comes and prays for a miracle.
  • Leonela monologues about her trouble with alcohol.
  • Os and and PJP talk miracles. Everyone hopes for miracles and that Maria forgives Vic and Leo leaves the liquor.
  • Leo continues to monologue.
  • Vic joins the hopin' for a miracle crew and tells them she is going to be patient with Maria and just continue to shower her with motherly love. Os tells her she's a brave warrior and gives her a kiss on the forehead. Max thought bubbles something about them being in love.
  • Leo is still monologue-ing. At least she isn't in the tub or in her skivvies.
  • PJP goes to the chapel and tries to convince Maria to forgive. Open your heart, let the Lord work. All the usual priestly platitudes.
  • The operation: dramatic close-ups and cotton balls painted red.
  • Leo attends an AA meeting FF>>
  • Fer is back in her room, but still conked out.
  • Dr. Voice and Dr. Underling talk about the operation. He thinks it will be a success. For Dr. Voice, medicine is an act of love. He flashes back to his dying wife. She asks him to "abrázame muy fuerte" (wink wink) and dies in his arms. Then he flashes back to the accident that killed his kids.
  • The family gathers around Fer in her hospital room. The prognosis is good. Os tells Fer she's a warrior like her mom. Fer can't wait to run and dance; to enter the church on her own feet, kneel and pray to the Virgencita.
  • On her way home from the AA meeting Leo finds herself in front of the liquor store. She repeats what was said in the AA meeting: nos hundimos o nos levantamos (we sink or we get up. I'm thinking "we sink or we rise above" sounds a little better.) Viewerville does not get to find out this episode if she enters the store or not.
  • Vic catches Dr. Voice in the hall and thanks him. She is sure Fer will walk again and Dr. Voice thinks so too. He wants her to know there is nothing he wouldn't do for her. He says something romantic I'm sure but I didn't catch it. A nurse calls him away and Vic chastises herself for acting like a silly school girl with her heart beating out of her chest. No puede ser!
  • Max and Os yammer about the theater and the battle with Gui.
  • Gui and the director yammer about ...is the director in on the destroy Os plan? Did I hear that right? Damn the crappy CC's!!!
  • Max and Os still yammer about the theaer.
  • Fausto preaches and teaches in jail. Burnie visits him and asks what happened to his vow to be loyal to her. He doesn't want to hear it. She gets snide about him being in jail. He says "feh. My soul is free which is more than I can say for your soul."
  • Fer is glad Maria is there at the hospital. Cruz and Maria say they will take care of Fer. The Sandovals can go about their business. As Vic leaves she says Adios hijas and touches their clasped hands. Dramatic pause
A partir de hoy and flashback of early days of love.

Avances:
  • Leo wants her family back.
  • Os falls (looks like a period TN)
  • Fer....walks????

Thank you, Sara, and good luck with your dental work.

Yes, wondering what the deal is with pobre de Osvaldo tonight. Are they moving him on and out to make room for Dr. V.? I hope not. I like TelenovelaMaven's idea from yesterday that parallel forgiveness will take place: Maria of Victoria and Victoria of Os.

Actually looking forward to tonight to see what happens to Os and Fer. Well, maybe not every minute of it!

Thank you, Sara. Barebones and still funny!

I am traveling and trying to stay ahead via video. What nights is this TN not showing between now and the 4th of July?

Cindy

Sara your recap doesn't feel barebones at all great job and thank you.

That would could of be a big let down if they pair Victoria with Dr. Voice as this ends because the story is about forgiveness. If that's the case then they really shouldn't have Maria forgive Victoria at all then.

Leave it to Meh-jia to put his typical spin on this version and make it not follow the storyline.

I have to ask everyone if by chance in several years from now if you want to say watch a novela even if you've seen it before. Would you guys after TDA ends ever watch this again or just avoid it like the plague?

Blusam: I would seriously consider avoiding it like the plague. I've pretty much ditched this show and am watching Alborada (which stands the test of time for quality and sheer entertainment value, despite having been shot before HD). I'm glad it was my first TN, so I remain optimistic. But TdA (TdUM) is the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen. And I don't care what else happens, I hope Maria NEVER forgives that craven witch of a Victoria. Are they making her hairdo more unattractive on purpose? Are we supposed to recoil in disgust?

And thank you Sara, and all the other stalwarts who have had the good grace to keep on keeping on with such humor and spirit.

Sara - Thanks for the recap. Sweet and succinct. My favorite line:
"She can't forgive Vic 'cause we still have 15 episodes to go."

Isn't it amazing that Fer could call the surgeon on the phone one night, and schedule surgery for the next morning??? Only in telenovelaland.

"..nos hundimos o nos levantamos.." Maybe it means "together we stand or together we fall" ?

TL - "I like TelenovelaMaven's idea from yesterday that parallel forgiveness will take place: Maria of Victoria and Victoria of Os."
I think you're both on to something! "Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us".
How can Vic expect to be forgiven if she won't forgive. With Meh-jías heavy religious themes, this has to be what he's after.

Blusamari - This makes FELS look like Shakespeare, IMO. I would never watch TdA again. Ever. I'd sooner stick a fork in my eye.

Ivx - don't let TdA ruin your opinion of telenovelas. If you like Alborada, you would love Amor Real.

Looks like there's no TdA on Monday. Soccer instead. A true celebration of independence (from TdA!)

And I would actually consider re-watching Mundo de Fieras before this one.

I have watched other novelas twice before. EPDA, CS 1993, FELS (because I love the three guys), La Esposa Virgen, and Yo Compro Esa Mujer.

Thanks to having seen EPDA twice I most likely wouldn't watch this one a second time at full attention.

I have watched some more than once to see whether I understand stuff I didn't get the first time and I usually do.

Now, on to this episode:

WL definitely looks better than in the early episodes; he needs more hair. But he does need elocution lessons.

Cruz still needs a makeover.

Here's hoping Fernanda walks this time. This family needs something positive happening.

Who's watching the babies while both Max and Maria are at the hospital?

Ixv and Doris you guys are just cracking me up i've stayed away from FELS because of the comments from those who have seen that Meh-jia masterpiece but words kind of fail me with what he has done to this version. I saw the EPDA version i didn't see the earlier version i think it's called Crystal? I really did like the EPDA version and i was surprised that Carla Estrada did that one sine those who watch a lot of her novelas will tell you she keeps it short and sweet. EPDA was about i think 155 episodes around that number.

Doris, I did love Amor Real, but I actually think Alborada would be hard to top. I think I've watched it through about 5 times and it still packs the same punch. Only now, it's more fun because I have a gang of people to share it with.

UA: Yes about William's hair. But he can mumble all he wants. I still have a crush on him. I doubt whatever he had to say would matter much. He's kinda dumb, but very very good to look at. And I also wondered how Maria could just waltz out of the house like that. Babysitter? Nanny? Millie? Naty? Poli? Trini? This is the sloppiest writing I have ever seen.

When I had surgery recently, I had to go for pre-admission workup a week ahead of time, then medical clearance exam 2 days prior, then a whole bunch of prep the day before, including nothing to eat. How do they do this in Mexico (Mejia-land)? And then, they assembled the whole family in her hospital room to watch her wake up. Why wasn't she in recovery with a drip and a nasal cannula and a nurse checking the monitor? I don't think I'm picking nits here. It's just lazy/cheap production. Doesn't Mejia realize that people are used to the details in very sophisticated doctor/cop shows? This stuff falls flat and requires too much suspension of disbelief (or disagreement). I may just have to go to the ER from too much beanie tightening. Rant over.

Thanks, Sara. Nicely done, indeed.
I love how you sum up Fausto's answer to Demente when she comes to his prison cell to reproach and gloat:

He says "feh. My soul is free which is more than I can say for your soul."

That is EXACTLY what his face says: Feh.

Traveling Lady, I'm also anxious to see what happens tonight. One of my least favorite Gothic Novela Conventions: Innocents DO get sacrificed. But I'd be very disappointed if Osvaldo turned out to be among the victims, especially now that he has evolved from his initial preening, infantile egoist to the moral center of the story.

What would I watch again?

Well La Pola isn't even over and I find myself hoping they will air it again. It's like a wonderful book that, as soon as you come to the last page, you turn back to the first page and start reading again, only more slowly, to savor every word.

And I would definitely watch La Reina del Sur again -- in fact, I intend to when they show it on Mun2, Telemundo's "bilingual" sister station. (It will be in Spanish but with English CC's.)

Maybe I'm just being cynical, but to me Victoria forgiving Os doesn't have anything to do with his deciding to step aside so she can be happy with Dr. Voice. I'd rather see her and Os together at the end of this hot mess, but at this point... Maybe at the very least he'll get to push Gui in front of a car on his way out.

Cindy: as I understand it TDA definitely won't be on on Friday (in favor of a round of Pequenos gigantes) but according to Univision's online schedule it will be on on Monday. Could still be wrong, but hey.

Maybe Os has caught something from Linda-Ho and it's just now surfacing.

My first comment here. Love the recaps!!

Am I the only one who wants Vic to stay with Dr. Voice? I didn't think it was only about forgiveness. I feel that she's just not attracted to Os anymore, so why should she have to put up with him when she is clearly moved by the Doc?

Totally agree on the lazy production, especially when it comes to the medical details.

I started watching this novela late in the game, but it's left me discouraged because I keep just nitpicking at it (yeah, who the hell is taking care of those poor babies all the time??)

Maybe I should be watching Teresa instead? At least this mess will be over soon.

Lastly, I think PJP is hotter than WL. WL needs to stop using that damn jacket all the time.

That's a wrap for Victoria/Os. Victoria's getting all butterfly stomachy over Dr. Voice and they even have their own theme song now.

Poor Os.

------------------------------

Victoria forgiving Osvaldo has nothing to do with her wanting to be with him again. She can forgive him and care for him as the father of her children, and as a friend but just not want to be with him anymore.

Plus, Osvaldo & Victoria's marriage was on the rocks before Linda entered the picture.

Osvaldo is going to end up doing the same thing to Victoria that Alonso did to Maria: leave the mix so the woman they love can be with the man she loves.

Well at least this go round in the hospital the whole clan wasn't standing around in gowns and masks which is the usual schtick in novelaland and poor Fer wasn't dragged barely conscious from her bed to try and walk like the last time.

Enough already with Leo and her navel gazing.

Watch this hot mess again? Never.

Am curious to see what will happen tonight and if Os survives his fall?? Push??

My on line guide shows no TdA Friday or Monday. I could use a break from mush mouth and tilt head.

Hi All!

Sara, hope you feel better soon!

Just learned that William Levy and Maite Perroni are hosting the Hispanic Heritage Awards at the Kennedy Center in September. I would KILL to go (not literally like Burnie, Gui or Xi!). Anyone have any inside track for tix? My friend who has some connections said tix to the event are 1,500.00 for two! Guess I'll have to continue admiring them from afar at those prices...

Hey, back to the show, where are the babies? Maria keeps running out of the apt. without a backward glance! Did I miss the live in nanny?!

Glad they're waiting more than 4 hours before they test Fer's legs. Thought it was really odd last time when the same day as the operation they're all "Walk!"

Katy

This one is just creeping to the Finale isn't it. I'm sure we are still to get the ultimate demise of Gui and Burnie, but there's this feeling of "get it over with already" about watching now.

Katy - so true about Fer. But TN miracle medicine alwasy leaves us a bit dazzled. Meija wants her walking in 4 hours, and probably running in 2 days, we will see that. just adjust the beanie.

I have to wonder why the "butterfly" feelings by Vic if they aren't thinking of putting her with Dr. V eventually. And trying so hard to keep Leo heading toward a redemption too if she isn't sticking around and maybe Os winds up going back to her?

Frankly most of the couples leave me cold, and that goes for Max and Maria, I just like the individual people. I mean, honestly, I really don't wish Vic on anybody, but that's me.

Hilda, I totally agree with you about the jacket. On "Soy Tu Duena", they kept Fernando Colunga, The Best Looking Man On Earth", in heavy rancher jackets for pretty much the entire show. We hardly ever, ever got to see his awesome pecs and abs. Ivana would slink around in Barbie Doll size dresses waiting for a heat wave, and Colunga was wrapped up tighter than a mummy.

Sara:
Having had emergency oral surgery this week, I can totally relate! Since I'm not spaced on Vicodin any longer, let me say thanks to both you and NovelaMaven for great and muy enjoyable recaps.

As for WL - had to laugh. "William Levy still a mush mouth." Damn! I got to thinking it was just the beans growing in my ears! His diction is just the pits!

ITA that Vic and Ozzie were already on the outs and though they might have made great lullabye music together, the overall relationship had ended long before Linda showed up. Once I heard Vic complain about butterflies in her stomach around Handsome Heri, I figured the telenovela gods were signaling that she'll end up with him.

Hilda: Welcome! Please let that not be your last comment, either! The more the merrier.

NovelaMaven -- I love what you said about Os and novela conventions. "from preening, infantile egoist to moral center of the story." Agreed. He is probably doomed!

Could it be that Vic's butterflies indicate she's pregnant by Os? They did have a few steamy scenes, I think, but maybe I dreamed that.

Isn't WL from Cuba? That might explain his diction and lack of Neutral Spanish.

I'm still avoiding this one, but love reading all the recaps and comments. You guys are awesome and brave for sticking it through.

Doris- Livia Brito (Fer) and Cesar Evora are from Cuba too, and Osvaldo is from PR, they are doing fine with diction. I think WL is being lazy, or not spending enough time with his diction coach.

I know I'm a TN rookie, but it seems weird that televisa or Mejia or whoever would invest so much time in Oz' character and treat him as the second male lead, just to have another character steal his thunder at the end. I agree with all the comments re Vic and Oz' marriage being dead for a while and him being waaaaay more into her BUT, I ask you veterans of he TNs, do they switch protagonists like that? It would surprise me if they did.

OMG my word verification is, no lie, queth (as in que the hell is going on w this tn?!)

Katy

I don't think WL's problem is being from Cuba, I think it's living in Miami since he was 15.

I wish I could hear him speak English, which I'm sure is perfecto.

doris, I also though Vicki might be pregnant with those butterflies. And I betcha Maria is too. AND, of course Fer. It might just end up a giant bautizo-fest at the end.

@Vario—he says "OK" a lot. I find it very sexy when he speaks English. But I can never forget that first and foremost, he's a model and not really an actor.

If Vic ends up with the doctor, I will definitely NOT watch this again. I like Os so much. On the other hand, I really like Leo, so I guess they could get together, and I would like it.
However, this went on too darn long. I am taping Alborado, because you folks said it was great. That will be my next TN.
And thanks for the info, Bill. I am up to episode 164 online.

Cindy

William's wife (or ex-wife) Elizabeth Gutierrez was born and grew up in the US and she has perfect diction. I just think Levy has a mumbling problem and he needs to take diction lessons.

Jarocha

I won't watch this TN again - it really went down hill from about episode 110 onwards. And I preferred WL's hair at the beginning - it looks dried out and over processed now. Who would want to touch it now?

I also noticed Maria leaving apt without a thought for PJP. Perhaps he is with Osvaldito? Who is taking care of those ninos?

I think Vic will end up with Dr Voice. I am disappointed that Osvaldo will be disappointed, but really, do we really want him with a woman who doesn't appreciate him? He really became my favorite male character. I'd like to see him move on with his life.

María has Nati & Milagros to take care of JPito. The Sandovals have many people to take care of Osito

Since the baby JP is a Sandoval grandchild, and they brought him to the hospital with baby Oswald, likely whoever takes care of one, we must assume is taking care of both. Or that is the best I can assume that we are to think.

Cindy

hi, guys!!! it's been a long time since i wrote a comment.. this week had been a very busy week, full of school stuff... thank God, today's Friday..!haha!!

As for you those who wants to hear William talk in English, there is a video.. u just search it in youtube... (in 50 mas bellos, there is a part there where he spoke in English) i don't care if they say that his diction is bad... but he's SOOOOO SEXY when he speaks in ENGLISH!!! as well as in spanish (even thought i don't understand)..for me, it's the best accent ever!!! haha!
yeah, I admit it, i'm crazy!!haha! but only for WL... not for other things coz people might send me to the mental hosp... haha!
