La Pola - September 15, 2011 - Discussion Page

Alejo and his band are captured on the road to Los Llanos. They are forced to march through the streets of Santa Fé to prison. Sámano is determined to capture the woman who is their leader. Iglesias convinces him that there was no woman with those who were captured.

María Ignacia pleads with Sámano to release Alejo. He brushes her off and tells her that she promised to deliver Policarpa. She gives him more information.

Sámano gets up close and personal as Alejo is being whipped mercilessly. He demands to know the whereabouts of Pola, the mestiza whom Alejo loves. He spits at Alejo, and Alejo spits back at him. The whipping continues.

Iglesias makes a deal with Sámano. If he captures La Pola, then Sámano will promote him to an officer’s rank. Iglesias pretends he wants to join the rebels and asks Candelaria how he can contact Pola. She doesn’t believe him. Finally, he stages a scene where he punches an officer who is making a pass at Candelaria. He momentarily gains her confidence. She says that she doesn’t know Pola’s whereabouts, but her brother probably does.

With that information, Iglesias tails Vivianito to the safe house and captures Pola. She passes Alejo’s cell in the jail. To set an example, Sámano has Vivianito whipped so that Pola can hear him crying out in pain. He is released later.

The trials begin. First Arcos is condemned. Then Pola is brought in, accused, tried and condemned to death. Pérez Delgado makes an argument that killing a woman could make trouble in the town. He is ignored and overruled.

As to Sámano, he will follow the law and kill them all twice – once by firing squad and once by hanging.

Readers: This adventure ends next Thursday. I am going to miss it. It is probably too long to ever be available on DVD.

Oh my, just 5 more episodes and it looks as though the most of the good times are over. The cheeky little girl we fell in love with such a short time ago will soon belong to history.

What a wonderful show.

I do hope we have a chance to see Iglesias get his. Rodent!

Maybe Juliano will slit his throat.

Yes, a glorious show.

I've never seen anything else on Spanish language tv that even approaches its quality -- except perhaps "La hija del mariachi".

Speaking of which -- "Francisco" may be a well-played and often sympathetic character but my heart belongs to the roguish mariachi Fernando, the red-diaper baby, violin slung over his shoulder, cynic and romantic at the same time.

I love the way he decides his friend's outlandish story is true: anyone dumb enough to be tricked by that little brat, Virginia, could never be the mastermind behind an international money-laundering operation.

I also love the character of Siggy -- shrewd and dignified and loyal.

As for el Coloso de Jalisco -- this guy is a hoot. On other threads people have described females whose bosoms enter the frame before they do. Well, this guy enters the frame pelvis first.

Anyway guys, cheer up. There is life after La Pola.

Last night was heart breaking and it's only going to get worse. The only thing that makes me feel better is knowing that Columbia (and all the other countries) finally got their independence from Spain. La Pola didn't die in vain.

This is the best novela of all time.

As a lover of pre-hispanic Mexican history, I've never been a big fan of the Spaniards and now I dislike them even more.

As hard to take as it was, I LOVED the one-word message Alejo gave Samano... PUDRASE!!! (GO ROT IN HELL!!)

Novelamav... LHDM is showing on east coast Telefutura so the telenovela-world forum is active on it again... and ITA about Fernando being as much or even more likeable as Francisco, with Sigi close behind. I LOVE both SIGI's and Fer's sense of humor and their attitude of 'can 'mentar la madre' and it could be just as effective as a violent beating.

I too love La pola as the best historical piece I have seen by far,on my top 5 for sure. along with Cafe, CS and LHDM. Quality-wise, its the colombian version of CS 93. neck and neck.

Martaivett & NovelaMaven: I'm an HDM viewer, too. Francisco tells Pola he is in love. She says, with whom. With Fernando, who else, he replies. And Fernando says, but, it is not reciprocated. I fell out of my chair.

pasofino, lol you meant Rosario, right?

Don't worry folks there will be things to cheer about from here on out... like you all said, in the end the good ones won... even with the blood bath that Antonio Narino was trying to avoid so strongly.
