Although the guards are suspicious, Lopecito is successful in pretending to be a sick Alejo. Alejo holds his hand to the fire longest and wins the right to be with Pola, whom he admits is his novia. In just a little bit of time, they profess their undying love to one another and finally Pola loses her virtúd. She wants him to think that it was María Ignacia who has saved his life, but he tells her that it was María Ignacia who turned them in. Pola still thinks if she recants publicly, that she will save Alejo’s life. Sámano has other plans. He orders Herrera to make sure the sealed document (Alejo’s pardon) Pola has asked him for disappears. Then there is a report of trouble in the jail. Sámano sends Herrera, whom he has stripped of his colonel’s epaulets to the jail to make sure all is well. The lovers are never discovered, Alejo makes it back to his cell and Lopecito gets back in his uniform…..

Readers: I had to record this chapter because it was on so late in my time zone. Unfortunately, the last part did not record.

PF, you got the gist of it, thanks! but Alejo said that he and Pola were married, not boyfriend/girlfriend. which Pola confirmed.
They had to give the jerko the medalla (the one Alejo gave Pola when they were kids) on top of Alejo burning his hand off.
When Alejo won the 'contest' the other guy came to the jerko and whispered to him stte of 'you might have the hots for this girl, but this guy is cooking for her!' LOL!!

At the end of the ep Lopezito sees Alejo and tells him the truth about why he will be pardoned. Of course Alejo is outraged, first he says ye needs to see pola, but Lopezito says if it was really hard then it is impossible now! so Alejo sends her the message not to do it, that it will make her look to the town like a coward woman who repented and will undo everything she had done so far. Lopezito also tells Alejo that Pola is doing it because her love for him is greater than her love for the ideal of seeing her country free... which is really moving to Alejo.
So Lopezito takes the message to Pola. Pola says she gave her word...
Meanwhile Samano is counting on that when Herrera takes the document from whoever Pola gives it to ,Herrera will be able to lock them up so the word does not get back to Pola that the document was stolen from them... we will see.

Lopezito is the best friend... along with Arcos... it was nice to see them 4 (Arellano, Arcos, Alejo and Lopezito) exchange squeezes of shoulder, handshakes, smiles, etc when Alejo made it back to his cell, exchanged the clothes back with Lopezito, and Lopezito and the other guy were able to convince the other guard to let them be... Also Lopezito with Pola... that scene was great too. even though he was not able to convince her.

DANG IT! this episode was not on last night here in LA/Pasadena. so annoying. how will I be able to find it on youtube? don't know what capitulo.

something like 192 or so.
just look for la pola 192, maybe it was 191 and 192.. or 193 and 194.. .somewhere there.

it was very interesting how Pola put Alejo on the spot, first telling him that his 'love for the cause has never been as strong'... first he was with the 'federalists' since they were closer to the 'king', then he came to the side of the 'rebels' to be near pola... (which he admitted to MI that he had joined them at first because of love for a woman), then when Leandro died he blamed the rebels and also himself for Leandro's death... and Alejo is also very honest saying 'that was me then, yes, but not now' and he tells her that the european spanish never saw them as 'spanish' and he finally 'understood/acknowledged' that the 'rebels' was the right side when he saw that the spanish king sent his troops to perform a 'macabre dance of blood and pain on the americans'...
it was also very moving for Pola to open up to him and tell him that she had dreamed of a 'normal life, with a husband who loved her and about 5 kids to annoy her and a big kitchen like that of her parents...' but she will not see that happen... Alejo suggested they make a try to escape but she is 'tired of fighting'.

I think it ends in 197 and 198 so if thursday is the end, that should be 197 and 198 and tonight should be 195 and 196 so i would think last night was 193 and 194.

Martaivett: Thank you so much for filling in the blanks. Lopecito is winning me over. He is not only handsome, but he is intelligent and a good judge of character. He won't let blood ties get in the way of truth. I wonder what will happen to him?

in real life he survived and even became the Prez of Colombia at some point. he wrote 'memoirs where he talked about Alejo and Pola but some say he never wrote anything about their 'relationship'.

Martaivett: Are you from Colombia? You know so much about its history.

I'm saving the research until after this is over. I'm really curious now. There were so many patriots. When I was growing up we learned only about Simón Bolivan and José Martí.

I mean really!! of all episodes to be pre-empted, it's the one where they finally hook-up.

Thank you, Pasofino and martaivett!!!

I love this site! I'm from Colombia I would have never imagined US citizens could enjoy Colombian novelas this much! I see you are talking about Lopecito from La Pola. He would later become the 9th President of Colombia. What I think it's interesting is that he actually named one of her daughters "Policarpa". You can look it up in Wikipedia.
