Amorcito Corazón Discussion #14-23 June 18-22

Slap dash recap of the first hour (*le sigh*)
Part I
Either my DVR can't tell time or Looneyvision has struck again because my recording started right off with Juancho and Willy in the Pinzón living room. What happened to where we left off Friday? Isa was beating on Fernie's car window. Oh well.
  • So Isa shows up and picks up Marilechuga from school. The Mother Superior gets snippy. Marilechuga tells her Isa is her friend and neighbor so *nyah*
  • New character alert! Duqueque (sp?) A cute little chamaco who's mom abandoned him (?) I kind of missed most of his history. Help anyone?
  • Beba's son continues to give her a hard time about Willy.
  • There's an impromptu birthday costume party for Marilechuga. Lucía gets the sexy cat woman suit...meow!
Part II
  • Horty forgot Marilechuga's birthday. Ha! Panic to get a great present, cake yada yada.
  • Dad takes Marilu out for a dinner fit for a princess. It is so darn sweet!!!! Truly a must-see. And it's awesome when Horty interrupts to tell her to come home and get all her gifts and the girl TELLS HER NO! heh heh.
Part III
  • Isa talks with Zoe about taking care of mom when she's discharged from the home.
  • Álvaro tells Zoe the NEED to stay married. Some very conservative muckity mucks want him for some high paying position in the company (lord high overseer of Latin America?) Gringos are somehow involved.
  • Beba wonders if Horty wants Manuela (Sofía's twin/ex-SIL of Fernie) to marry Fernie. Horty says no way.
  • After the princess dinner, Marilechuga insists that they go see Isa to give her a rose from her b'day bouquet.
Part IV
  • Horty soliloquy-s to pics of her daughters Manuela and Sofia. They are so different despite looking so similar. Manuela apparently changed even more after her sister's death and Horty feels like she lost both of them the day Sofía died.
  •  Lucía thinks about Willy and vice versa.
  • Fernie and Isa both have weird nightmares about marrying Doris/Poncho respectively. Marilechuga the hada waves her magic wand and Fernie and Isa end up together at the altar. Then there is a weird Fernie as Lobo, Isa as hunter thing. Meh. FF>>
  • Poncho serenades Isa at her car. He's terrible, but it's funny.
  • Mother Superior overhears Marisol telling Barbara about Lucia wearing the sexy cat suit.
There was plenty of other stuff I missed, I'm sure. I was flying through my recording. I'll post some second hour happenings in the comments.

sara: It seems like you got all the importnt stuff.

Tuqueque is the "son" of Mochio (spelling?) and a mother who abandoned him. However, he really is the biological son of Ricky,Lalla's other son, who is in prison. So Willy is his uncle and dona Lalla is his grandmother, although this is a closely guarded secret in their family. Everyone else including Mochio and his mother think Tuqueque (real name Garbriel, I think) is their son and grandson. That little kid is such a cutie and good actor, as are the girls who play Marilu and Marifer. The scene with Fern and Marilu is really touching! The kid who plays Margarito on LQNPA could learn a thing or two from the child actors in AMOROCITO. Both Marilu and Marifer have very distinct characters and play them so well.

Bless you, NJ Sue!!! I was late watching today and knowing I have two hours to watch, I tend to speed through things.

I'll be watching the second half later tonight (eek, or even tomorrow.)

Omigosh you are so right about the child actors in this one. Marilu and Marifer are fabulous! I just want to eat them up!!

I can hardly wait to get home and watch, even if it is 2 hours. I agree about the child actors. In some shows they are insufferable (*ahemTemoahem* *andSantiagofromelTalahem*) but these kids are great. Marifer reminds me of one of my favorite nieces (all my nieces are my favorites ;)).

Tuqueque is played by Omar Isfel, who is the son of Violeta Isfel aka Monica in UFCS. He is a cute thing. I'm curious to find out why Tuqueque's origins are secret.

OMG really??? She looks so young herself!

Is Tuqueque the usual hipocorístico of Gabriel?

Sara, thanks so much for posting this discussion thread and your mini-caps. You didn't miss anything from the beginning. I checked and for some reason there was a jump from Isa trying to get Fer's attention regarding Marilu and today's first scene.

Yes the kids in this are great. And Fer taking Marilu to dinner was so sweet; it made me weepy.

I think I dislike the Mother Superior as much as Hortensia. They are really witchy characters. And Hortensia trying to make Marilu leave her special evening w/Daddy. Get a grip woman. But it was great she told her Nana no.

Can we discuss what is supposed to be the mystery behind Horty's other daughter (and twin to Fer's wife)? I think she's supposed to be mentally fragile but it almost seems she has multiple personalities and was Fer's wife. I know its crazy but that's how I'm reading Horty's weirdness with this situation.

Thanks NJ Sue for the info about Tuqueque.

When Hortensia was chatting with her criada, she said she didn't want Manuela coming home and getting between her and her nietas. Later she told Beba that Manuela had always suffered from "personality problems." I think we're going to get a real whack-job when she turns up.

I thought someone said it was Willy who came up with the "Tuqueque" nickname for the little guy. And yes, you're right, NJ Sue -- we really got lucky with that young actor! Our TN niños seem to be gratingly annoying more often than not.

Aw, I'm so glad sweet Marilechuga had a nice birthday after all. Three parties altogether! I was agog at Snorty when she had a little cow over how rude Marilu was not to leave dinner with her dad and come running when Snorty called and demanded her immediate presence at her last-minute attempt at a party.

I think Tuqueque's assumed dad's name is spelled Moncho; it's in the credits that way. I'm still completely confused as to why they're keeping this secret from Moncho and his mother. Aren't they supposed to be friends?

Can hardly wait for Barbara's snobby lies to blow up in her face, but I don't dislike her.

Zoe should find herself a nice female lawyer...and ask around to be sure she isn't a lesbian before she hires her. Why does she even agree to go out for drinks anymore. If she wants her divorce done she should insist on just doing business in the office.

I caught a few new-to-me phrases:

darse infulas - to give oneself airs; think a lot of oneself

empinar el codo - to throw back a few drinks

I half-caught a few phrases that left me bien confundida. Can anyone throw light on what it means to turn "the color of ants" ("color de hormigas")? I'm never quite sure if it's me or the captions...

And I really liked "ni fu ni fa" -- apparently it means you are indifferent to someone.

Great mini-cap Sara.

Other happenings: Isa wins the contest! Since her resume was lost, but thank goodness she had her phone number on the envelopes with the cds, Fer doesn't know she's the one who won (or that she even entered the contest).

I loved the princess birthday dinner. So cute. I got a bit teary. The costume party was fun too. What a fab birthday for Marilu on a day that started off so sad.

Blue Lass- when they say things are going to turn the color of ants, it means things are going to turn dark/get ugly around here.

I don't know why Willy's family is keeping the secret that Tuqueque is really a part of their family from Moncho and his mom either. Just seems like the longer that goes on, the more hurtful for everyone involved it will be. At least Tuqueque basically seems them as family too.

Barbara is being a silly teenager. I don't dislike her either, but I do want this farce of being a rich girl to blow up in her face. She has already heard Marisol talk about how she doesn't care about snobby social distinctions. It's not like she's bffs with the other snobby girls at the school anyway.

Wow I wish I had y'all's ears!

I forgot the best part of dinner with dad: he had a plate of lettuce!

Thanks for the ants, Vivi -- I guess that's the Spanish equivalent of our Southern expression "to go all pear-shaped." (Those pears again!)

Isa doesn't know it's Fer's firm she applied to, either. More hijinks.

It may be the case that Tuqueque's mother (charmingly named "Lucha," it seems) told Moncho he was the Dad, so the Pinzons aren't in a position to insist otherwise -- and with Ricky in prison, they probably feel he's better off. Willy did say that Lucha took up with Moncho right quick after Ricky.

Just watched the second half.
--Tuqueue is sick.
--Doris is ORANGE!!
--Isa talks Zoe into looking for the gentleman of her one night stand.
--Mother Superior apologizes to Isa.
--Barbara fakes her address
--Marisol and Juancho near miss...AGAIN *groan*
--Isa won the contest.

Vocabulario
salir el peine: the truth comes out.
rapiña: pillage
bolsa de valores: stock market
el hospedaje: accommodation

I thought makeup did a nice job on Doris -- she really did look painfully sunburned!

Zoe said she'd like to meet a man who wasn't an "ave de rapiña" = "bird of prey." (Yes, I've started watching with my dictionary in my lap.)

Sara- Yes poor Tuqueque. Shouldn't they take the poor little guy to the doctor, instead of taking him to Veracruz to cure his fevers? I sense a bout of Lucemia coming on, or something where blood or DNA tests will be needed, and the truth about who his papa is will come out.

And he started coughing almost as soon as he walked on the set. I question whether or not we should get attached to him.

Gah! Thanks for the correction, BL. In trying to be more vocab oriented, I am beginning to feel like a fraud. I can't seem to make out anything they say!

BTW-Inspired by Julia I have started a vocab list in a Google document. If you have contributed something and you don't see it on the list, let me know. I went back and looked back at all the posts and comments to do this so I may have missed some. ('Cause starting from day one was too easy.)

Sara, we bow before your vocabulary-extraction gifts. I am going to use your Google doc -- the one for Familia was overwhelming, but since I'm in on the ground floor, I have hope of keeping up with this one.

Thanks Sara! Good grief, I had forgotten that you are now pumping out two recaps on Mondays. And now this one at two hours. Guacala!! (I love those kids too.)

Marilechuga reminded me of myself when I get a present, I immediately rip them open as fast as I can.

Tuqueque means salamander. Not sure why he would get that nickname, unless Willy gave it to him when he was just a little tyke crawling around.

Is Horty falling for Willy?

Sara, thanks again for the terrific recap and now we have a vocab list too. Squeee!!

Whoops, meant to say GECKO. Tuqueque is a kind of gecko, (salamanquesa). It's kind of a cute nickname.

Is Horty falling for Willy?
---
At the very least her hormones are stirring.

That scene in the restaurant was funny.

Oh, and I love "Snorty" -- thanks, Julia!

What does "guacala" mean, exactly? It's so cute when the little one says it.

And tuqueque has been added to the list. I wish I could figure out why mentecato stays at the top of the list when I alphabetize.

Guácala-gross/nasty/eww!

Sara, is there a space in front of mentecato, or a little punctuation mark of some kind? That's usually what causes alphabetization problems. I don't see anything, though. You might try deleting it an re-entering.

Can you add "ni fu ni fa" and "color de hormigas" from earlier today? Thanks!

I have noticed that the scriptwriters tend to have their particular favorite slang terms -- especially for insults -- so we'll probably be hearing some of these a lot more before we're through. (For instance, I had never heard the term "pelafustán" before Teresa, and I haven't heard it since.)

I LOVE that Fernando isn't falling in Doris's lame snares. On a lesser show, he'd have felt obliged to take her home and support her through her artificial sunburn. I was very amused that he just snickered at her. The extent of his sympathy was to suggest that she sue the salon that left her on the tanning bed so long and say she could leave through the back if she wanted, so no one would see her. Yet he wasn't really being mean, just wasn't going to let her whine her way further into his life and make demands on his time and attention. It's nice to have a galan who isn't an idiot!

I love Snorty and Willy playing their little game with each other. She's trying to prove he's a womanizing scam artist, and he's trying to figure out what she's up to. The fact that he hasn't asked her for money, or made a move on her yet, is both intriguing to Snorty, as well as a blow to her ego (since he was romantic with Beba and she considers herself better looking than Beba). Plus, he's hot, so those dormant hormones of hers are waking up.

Sara, there is a space in front of mentecato. When you remove it you will be able to alphabetize it.

Thanks for all your help, everyone!! There was a space and I've removed it.

BL-I've got ni fu ni fa and color de hormigas. Sorry I missed those. Perdóname, amiga?

And I stumbled across this dictionary of mexicanismos today. I assume it is old news for you Caray-ers. I am so behind the times.

Today's events (6/18/12)
First off, I am in awe of the UFCS and Refugio recappers. Two hours is deadly.

--Tuqueque's fever got worse and he had to be rushed to the hospital. The doctor recommended various neurological tests that cost a bundle. Lucia is going to organize a ??? (special offering?) at the church to help raise funds. Willy works "extra hours" (read: schtups the boss) to earn extra cash.

--Isa won the prize. Then out of spite quit and tore up the check. Later she and Fernie make nice and she goes to work for Fernie's company.

--Sarita is being released! Leopoldo goes to visit and says he can count on her. I don't get this guy.

--Pop went the Snorty all over the place.

--Zoe was carjacked and discovered the insurance and all the credit cards were cancelled by Álvaro (did I get that right?) He kind of tries to blackmail her into keeping up the appearance of a normal marriage.

--Felipe is getting more and more involved with Zoe. He promises to be a nice professional lawyer.

I'll be back later with vocabs. :-)

"Pop goes the Snorty" -- JAJAJAJAJAJA. Love it.

Vocabs! (some of which are repeats from Julia's lists of awsomesauce.

vividor(a): pleasure seeker; sponger
despampanante: stunning
ser un cuero mujer: to be a stunning woman
advenedizo(a): upstart
el estrado: dais; platform
tarado(-a):stupid; moron; handicapped person
dar de alta: discharge (a person)
energúmeno: lunatic; Isa says this at least once an episode so I am repeating it again. lol
Chivo brincado, Chivo pagado: expression meaning cash payment for services/goods rendered
Hablando se entiende la gente: Communication is key
la trifulca: rumpus; commotion
la mera: the most important person (f)
el mero: the most important person
So it's hilarious when Dores says "Soy la mera mera del mero mero"

Is Felipe calling Zoe "venenito" little poison?

BL-Snorty was everywhere, wasn't she???

Thanks Sara! Little poison is indeed what Felipe is calling Zoe. That's shaping up to be quite the love triangle.

Another word that was said in these episodes: despampanante- stunning (what Zoe said Isa had to look like for the presentation)

Omigosh am I learning a lot of kooky stuff...in addition to what we already have from today, Snorty said she was speaking "without hair on her tongue," and later Isabel called her a "little liver" ("higuadito")? And I liked Poncho trying to grab a kiss by telling Isabel, "no hay moros en las costa" -- I assume that means "we're out of danger" or "no threats" or something like that.

The funniest thing was Fernando's "I am the boss" speech, though. "The first time you lift up your skirt or tell someone to go seek their destiny, you're OUTTA HERE."

Not sure if you already got this on the vocab, but suricata translates to meerkat.

(Can you tell I purchased a children's animal book in Spanish? Who knew it would come in so handy? On sale at Target.)

"despampanante", what a cool word. Thanks Vivi.

"No hay moros en la costa" and its opposite "hay moros en la costa" are some of my favorite Spanish phrases. "No hay..." does mean we're alone; no one is watching.

I can't believe the way Horty tries to interfere in Fernando's business. I mean, I can; she's Horty, but still. Willy G needs to work her out harder; why can she still walk?

Speaking of Willy G...oh em gee he is a prostitute. Wouldn't it be better to sell the Willymóvil to get the money?

I wondered about that, too, Julia -- he has a car, and even if he actually gave it (rather than lent it) to the three stooges, one of them is the kid's Dad. Er, "Dad."

But then of course we wouldn't get to see his goofy boss-lady dressed up in all her fantasy outfits...

despampanante is the second word on my list.

I'll add suricata and the moros phrases now.

I kept meaning to ask about suricata, but I always forgot.

Wowzers. A lot of action today. I'll be back with a quick run down soon. Gotta go exercise right now.

I like this show more every day.

Sara thanks so much for your recaps and vocab. I'm about to go out of town but when I return (7/15), I'd love to help you out (share an hour or alternate days). I haven't recapped before and my Spanish is shaking at best. Nevertheless, I love this show and think it might be a way for me to finally try recapping. Let me know.

Karen-This might be the perfect situation for getting your feet wet!! You could just do a Monday recap and the Group Think here is very good (to steal a phrase from R la O.) I know Vivi, Blue Lass, NJ Sue, Julia, Sylvia and R la O have totally saved my butt on numerous occasions. We'll talk when you get back.

Blue Lass-you once mentioned maybe, possibly, kind of doing a recap every now and again. Feel free to let me know if you want to. You've got wicked-good listening comprehension. (But please don't take this as pressure.)

Ok. I will try to cover the events of 6/20/11. I'm doing this from memory. I plan to re-watch tomorrow to catch some vocabs, but please feel free to add your "granita de arena." I add them to the list when you do.

Some things I forgot to mention from yesterday's show:
--The three amigos/caballeros have a solemn vow not to mess with each other's woman (I suspect this will figure into the Felipe/Cecilio/Zoe dynamic
--Cecilio's mother is afraid of everything (water, bugs, wind...) Maybe not important, but funny.

Today's Stuff
(Organized by Character)
--Macaria has been a widow for 14 years and some odd months and days.
--Macaria was the one who discovered Sofía's lifeless body at the bottom of the stairs.
--The mystery surrounding Manuela deepens.

--Tuqueque is given a somewhat clean bill of health, but the doctor still wants to do weekly tests. Doc is worried about the child's kidneys (set up for a transplant, methinks.)

--Willy makes a large donation to the collection to impress Lucia. I liked that the writers actually address the "why did he have to be so public about it." Willy and Juancho had a conversation about it and Willy admitted it was just to win points with Carita de Angel.
--Upon hearing Tuqueue's health report Willy gives Lucía a big hug. It leaves her confused about her feeling. Willy then can't stop thinking about Lucía. Willy admits to Juancho that he is in love with Lucía (I think, can't remember exactly.)
--Willy had some comic scenes with Beba and Snorty competing for his attentions.
--Willy's friends returned his car.

--Juancho's mother was in an accident in Acapulco. Juancho has to go back home. Another really near miss with Marisol (he was at her freaking door!! GAH!)

--Sarita is settling at Isa's wondering how she can be useful when Zoe comes in and kind of melts down. Zoe also has a migraine. Sarita calms her down and gets her to sleep. While Zoe sleeps, Sarita goes to the pharmacy. Since it's been a while since Sarita has gone out anywhere, she has a panic attack in the street and Fernando (returning home) is very kind and gentle and helps her.
--Sarita makes a cake for Fernando and meets his daughters.

--Zoe decides to go back to Álvaro. They plan to have dinner with the Norteamericanos.

--Felipe gets three sheets to the wind because Zoe has rejected him. He shows up to Zoe's dinner with Álvaro and the gringos (Don and Doña Quixote lol) and blabs that Zoe is getting divorced. Zoe tries to act otherwise.

--Fernando's run in with Sarita makes him see Isa in a different light (she also has her cross to bear.) He is nicer to her at work and invites her to lunch.
--Fernando and Isa have a very pleasant lunch (compared to the horrid meal she shared with Poncho...who has no table manners.) Well, it was pleasant until Pop went the Snorty!
--Several scenes hint that Fernie is falling for Isa.
--Fernando gives Isa the computer stuff she needs and puts Poncho in charge of making sure she has everything she needs so that her Big Presentation is perfect.

--Poncho's assignment is not good. Earlier, he and Doris had decided that the best thing would be for Isa and Fernie not to work together. They cook up a plan to get her fired. Poncho deletes Isa's Big Presentation.

Random Observation
Suzy is really short.

OH! Avances!
--Fernando and Isa kiss!

Thanks Sara. Oh my gosh. Today's episodes were so cute. So much chemistry between Isa and Fer. Fer has it bad for her. Same with Willy and Lucia, but that case is a bit more problematic, considering her calling to be a nun.

Horty and Beba dancing and getting drunk was also a treat.

Oh. Em. Gee. Wooly Bully!!!

Sara, I'd be happy to help out, although I'm not sure when would be the best time -- let me think about it. (And I do NOT have wicked good listening comprehension -- that's what captions are for!)

P.S. I think Manuela killed her sister by pushing her down the stairs. Just a guess. Maybe that's why Snorty wants to keep her in Europe -- for legal reasons.

I love watching Beba and Horty act together. Their dancing to Bule Bule (Wooly Bully) was a hoot.

Kind of off topic trivia, the person that wrote the song, Sam the Sham (with the Pharoahs) is of Mexican American descent. His real name is Domingo Samudio. Even though his parents spoke Spanish I don't think he recorded the Spanish version we heard in this episode. I think it was recorded by Los Rockin Devil's.

OK, back to watching today's episode. Sara, thank you for the recap. It's very helpful!

Thanks Sara. I look forward to attempting this rather daunting task.

Horty and Beba's dance was a high point of the episode. Horty has kind moments but her desire to control everything jacks her up. And she makes poor Fer's life miserable.

Blue Lass - yes I too think Manuela may have "pushed" her sister down the stairs of death. It would explain why Horty freaks out and acts crazy every time Manuela calls.

Poncho deleting Isa's project is so bad not just b/c its a plot device but it should end any relationship they have. I would so harm that jerk who thinks he's doing this in the name in love.

Vivi-Wasn't today darling!!! Diego Olivera plays "nice guy" so well. I got teary eyed when he did "princess dinner" for Marilechuga and I got misty eyed today, too. He was so gentle with Sarita...who at the time was a stranger to him!
Now, about Wily and Lucia I conjecture that she ends up leaving the order to be with Willy. I base this on her being in civvies at the end of the opening credits. But what do I know! lol

Sylvia-Cool! Music history, too! Thanks for the info! That was a really cute scene.

Blue Lass-IRT Sofia's death: I had the same thought! Creepy. (And just let me know if you want to help out. I'm trying to plan ahead a little. Once school starts I may have to develop a different plan.)

Karen-You are so right about Poncho. What was he thinking?

More observations:
My husband is a fan of Willy. He loved the tututuqueque today (When Willy was asking about the boy.) He laughs every time Willy is on screen...and hubs doesn't understand a bit of Spanish. Snorty and Beba competing for him is a hoot and a half.

I have never seen Liz Vega in anything and I am quickly becoming a fan. She's great!

Thanks everyone for watching and playing along with me. I hate that this one is not prime time.

The first time I saw Liz Vega was on one of those dancing shows, Bailando por la Boda I think it was. She is a fantastic dancer. She kept getting dinged by one of the judges because her style was "too athletic". But she refused to change her style, good for her! She was always very sweet and extremely energetic. I am liking her very much in this. I believe this is the first time I've seen her in a comedic role.

This was a fun episode, very peppy and full of action. Judging by the avances, it looks like Doris and Poncho's dirty scheme backfired.

I think you guys might be right about Sofia's death. Horty always gets extremely upset whenever Manuela calls.

Sara, thanks amiga for doing recaps every day. Two hours, gah!!

"I believe this is the first time I've seen her in a comedic role."
----
Really? Well, then...she's a natural at comedy!

Oh, and I'm adding two words to the list that have never been said on the show:

vejiga: bladder (said by a lawyer during a commercial)
vedette: cabaret star (which I learned when I googled Liz Vega.

I hope no one minds...

Sara, I have some absorbing summer plans but the decks will be clear (moros off la costa?) the last week in July. I can definitely pitch in after that. And when school starts, it's actually easier for me, because we're fully staffed.

I saw the first ad for Por Ella, Soy Eva yesterday, so there will be *some* kind of a schedule shakeup soon. Let's hope that relieves some poor equipo from 2-hour recaps.

Sylvia, thanks for the b/g on Sam the Sham. I loved that song when I was a kid!

IRT scheduling, I fear that:
--Por Ella Soy Eva will replace LQNPA
--they will do is give Eva the 7PM slot
--They will keep Refugio at two hours
--back up Abismo to the 10EST slot.

Ideally (meaning, "to my liking") they will:
--Put Amorcito on at 7EST
--Eva at 8EST
--Keep Abismo at 9EST
--Put Refugio at 10EST.

I burst out laughing just typing it! So funny!

Oh, how I would love being able to watch a show in real time again! It's been months and months...

What a charming episode. Fernando's Pepe le Pew looks at Isa were so endearing. And she definitely noticed!

I loved the Wooly Bully dancing. Those women are a hoot. Really Hortensia is not bad at all except when it comes to Fernando and his potential love life. I had exactly the same thought about Sofia's death. Almost for sure, Manuela did it. What a horrible thing for a mother to deal with.

Poncho is the worst. Trying to ruin Isa's career is not love. He doesn't know the meaning of love. And his table manners are nauseating. Maybe he won't really leave the files deleted, he'll be the computer hero and pretend he is very cleverly recovering them to make Isa grateful. At least Isa showed Fernando her work already, so even if the files are gone he won't think she didn't do the work.

I don't think Poncho loves Isabel -- he just wants what he wants, especially since no one else has had it.

And I couldn't *believe* Zoe went back to Alvaro. What was the reasoning there? She didn't seem to be looking that hard for a job to me.

Vocabs
patas arribas: in a mess
retumbar: to boom; resound; echo; thunder;
primoroso(-a): exquisite; delicate; beautifully dressed
la aportación: contribuiton;investment
la torpeza: clumsiness;awkwardnes; stupidity gaffe; blunder
dar la cara: to take responsibility for something
agobiar: to weigh down; to oppress; to overwhelm (mad at myself for not getting this considering I added "agobiado" earlier this week.)
riñones: kidneys
hígado:liver (Inspired by Blue Lass)

Since Blue Lass mentioned Isa's calling of Snorty "higadito", I did a little research:

ser un hígado to be a pain in the neck.

el puchero: pot; stew pot

but also...

el puchero: pout
hacer pucheros: to pout

I didn't take notes about what was actually said and I can't remember the context now lol.

Julia: oo, excellent theory in regards to Isa's file.

Blue Lass: "especially since no one else has had it." Indeed!

Yesterday I saw an announcement that the schedule for this show was changing again (I can't remember now if they said it would be on at 2 or at 3) but the Comcast program guide didn't reflect that yet. Does anyone know what is happening to the schedule?

Aw heck! I'm watching it later tonight. I will try to resist the temptation to FF through teh commercials.

pleasejustanhourpleasejustanhour...

I didn't think Zoe tried all that hard to find a job, either. Maybe she got realistic about the sort of work she might be able to get, without having finished school, and she didn't want such a downgrade in lifestyle. In that case, I think maybe she should get over her pride about not taking anything in a divorce settlement, and get support from Alvaro for a few years so she can finish school.

I haven't been able to watch today's episode yet, but feel free to discuss among yourselves.

One funny: Willy's comment that getting locked in the church overnight was to make up for not coming to mass all those times.

Heeeey....

pinzón means finch! More for the animal theme.

"...and she didn't want such a downgrade in lifestyle."
----
Agree. And for whatever reason, they want to keep the Álvaro actor around.

I cracked up yesterday when Willy G had to run off from his hooker gig to make it to mass.

Well, at least Zoe isn't moving back in with Alvaro. She had me worried. He does have cute ears, though.

P.S. My DirecTV shows everything in its usual place until July 3rd, where it goes eerily silent.

Zoe's just in a really bad emotional place right now. She's angry, depressed, and can't see solutions to her problems. It's not surprising that she did some backsliding to the hubby for financial support.

Willy's boss is a taskmaster!

Still watching Thursday's episode. I've gotten up to the kiss. Gotta say, I'm not impressed with Diego Olivera's technique. That better improve.

Ha ha, Poncho! Your plan backfired.

And poor Lucia...thinking she's going to take her vows and being told "Nope. Not yet."

Yeah, I think Fernando better stick to the lovestruck looks for a while and work on his beso technique.

Yeah, that kiss...as Patricio from Tontas would say, "No está sexy." They need lessons. Paging Beto and Constanza!

Still, though, an enjoyable episode. I suspect Poncho and Doris will end up together. They are equally tacky and rude. Poor Isa, she had to share two meals in a row with tablemates with revolting manners! She's going to get really skinny if Poncho and Doris keep invading her chowtimes like that.

I noticed that Fernando kept piling more and more lechuga on his plate at dinner :).

Ok. Done watching Thursday's episode. Today I'm just slapping down some main events and impressions.

Medical Stuff
--Juancho's mom has a rather severe head injury
--Tuqueque has a congenital kidney issue. (insuficiencia de riñones crónica) Translplant/DNA alert.

Big Stuff (I think)
--Fernie and Isa kiss. IMHO he needs some work, but she likes it. I'm still trying to figure out what possessed him to do it. Did you all find it odd?

--Fernie chokes on his nuts....er nueces de la India (cashews that Doris brought.) While attempting the Heimlich, Isa calls him "mi amor", much to the chagrin of Doris (this was a public event.)

--Isa is no dummy. She's pretty sure Poncho and Doris had something to do with the computer mess. Fernie believes her and is going to investigate. Poncho needs to get the security video.

--Lucia is told she won't be taking her vows. She cries. Willy tries telling her maybe she's meant for marriage and kids. She asks him never to bring it up again. All she wants is to be a nun.

Miscellany
--Poncho is an asshat.
--Barbara is street-wise and it almost blew her fresita cover.
--Doris mistakes Beba for Snorty's mom.
--Moncho sells vacuum cleaners
--Zoe and Suzy get along
--I heart Suzy
--Snorty wants to take the girls to Italy to visit Manuela

I'll be watching Friday's episode later tonight and will return with vocabs.

I seriously gush when I watch this show.

I noticed that Fernando kept piling more and more lechuga on his plate at dinner :).
---
Yes!! We think alike! I noticed and thought the same!

I think Fernando better stick to the lovestruck looks for a while and work on his beso technique
---
Diego Olivera can lovestruck look at me all her wants. *sigh* Kissing not necessary...at least for a while.

I am continually charmed by how much this is like a 60s-style comedy (as one of the commenters pointed out early on) -- the opening credits, the overall look and feel, even the wardrobe (Isa and Zoe often wear these adorable mid-century modern dresses, and Poncho is costumed straight out of Archie comics.) There was even an overt reference to The Flying Nun last week!

P.S. And I loved the nod to I Dream of Jeannie at the costume party...

Plus Wooly Bully, and the guys hanging around the car like it's Grease or something. Definitely a retro vibe. I love it.

Fernando can gaze dreamily at me all he wants, too. He could even smooch me and I wouldn't complain about his style. Practice makes perfect, right ;). I think he must need to hire a structural engineer for the constructora. I'm qualified AND I'm available, Fernando!

You'll have to wait and see who gets dibs on you, Julia. I think it's Cecilio's turn. ;}

Ew, no, not Cecilio. There's something a bit weird about him.

What? The fact that his mommy calls him all day and he actually answers the phone?

Drat, I'm two days behind! I'll try to catch up this weekend I guess.

Aww, but Cecelio is nice, and made Zoe feel loved and cherished like no other man has. I'm rooting for him and Zoe. I think she should date both guys. :)

I think we met Barbara's love interest when she nearly blew her fresa cover by telling that fresa boy off. I wish she would stop pretending already, as she seems to have made friends with the girls at the school who do care about that stuff.

I think Fern gets turned on when Isa speaks about things she cares about with passion. She was in the midst of defending her work ethic and such when he went for the kiss.

Addendum
--Cecilio got an idea about personal ads toward the end of Thursday's episode.

Blue Lass: Again with thinking alike! I wrote a note to myself while watching this morning. It read "Suzy Mad Men." Her costuming and hairstyle if very reminiscent of the 60's.

Julia: Practice *does* make perfect. We can flip a coin to see who gets to practice with him.

Sylvia: I'm behind too, but I encourage you to catch up. This show is just darlingprecious (made up word.)

Vivi: I kind of like Cecilio, too. I know he may need to cut the apron strings, but I'm rooting for the Cecilio/Zoe pairing as well. I can't figure out the mom thing though: Comedy or actual plot device? Both?

Do Cecilio and Felipe actually live together? I'm confused, and worried.

Sara, I think "darlingprecious" *is* the actual translation of "amorcito corazón."

(BTW, Willy said it yesterday, if anyone has "character says name of show" on their Bingo card.)

BTW, Willy said it yesterday, if anyone has "character says name of show" on their Bingo card.
----
Thank you!! Ever since he's said it I've been thinking "ok, character saying the name of show is important, but....why????" Obviously, the bingo info has now lodged itself in my subconscious. And I still haven't played!!

No, Felipe and Cecelio don't live together. Fer and Cece dropped drunk Felipe at his house. Cece was supposed to babysit him but then got the call from his mom and left Felipe alone, and went back to his own house. Felipe's sort of like a big baby, and of course woke up and just got himself into more trouble with Zoe and her husband, and the business partner guy that he kept calling Don Quixote because of his beard. LOL! Then he went to Cece's house to whine that he left him alone.

Whew! That's a relief. I was worried that Zoe was going to go to C's house and find F...of course many worse things will probably happen before we're through.

I'm going to have to watch Thurs and Fri on my Droid. Does anyone know, was Thursday caps 20 and 21?

I think Thursday is capitulos 22 and 23.

Though I'm still vexed that Uni has made this a 10 hour/wk show, thankfully I still love this show. I do dislike that both Zoe and Cecilio and Marisol and Juancho still have not meet yet; one of them maybe but not both.

Can someone clear up things for me - what is the arrangement that Zoe has with her husband? They are pretending to be together for his American bosses but for how long? Until he gets this promotion?

Though Poncho has to stay around for plot reasons, if I were Fer he'd be in jail for infecting all the computers in the company.

I feel badly for Willy's family. Between his nephew and cousin, we are either with doctors or in the hospital all the time.

Not that opening credits mean anything - the boys in Absimo arm wrestling or Aaron Diaz shirtless on horseback in El Tal - but I think Manuela is in love w/Fer and this could be why she may have pushed her sister down the stairs.

It looks like another fake pregnancy but since our galan is brighter than most it looks like he's onto Doris. He needs to be more firm with her and ideally have her attempt to spend some time with his girls. They will politely make her have a really bad day.

Please forgive my indolence the last few days.

Friday did not bring us tons o' action. The most important stuff being:

--Isa and Fer finally admitting they are falling for each other.

--despite thinking he spent the night with Doris, Isa finally believes that there is nothing between Doris and Fernie

--There's a bit where it is rumored that Willy is the father of a lady's child. Lucia is quite upset and confronts him. Beba overhears and thinks it's LUCIA who is preggers. Beba blabs to Snorty. Not good.

--Willy does prove his innocence to Lucia and tells her his father abandoned their family and he would never do something like that. Lucia has offended Willy.

--Dude with a motorcycle that Marisol conked with a soccer ball is named Mauricio Rossi(?) I think I need someone to fill in some blanks for me here. Sorry.

--Did Marisol ask Barbara if she was in love with JUANCHO??? Again I need help from folks with better comprehension (or real CCs).

--Juancho's mother passed away (que en paz descanse.)

--Poncho is fired for the sabotage of Isa's computer. For revenge he unleashes a computer virus. Since apparently no on else can fix it, he will get his job back it seems.

--Doris is going to fake a pregnancy. Did I hear right, she's going to buy a baby too?

Karen: I am right on board with you. 10 hours is a lot, but the show is so stinking cute and I pretty much love watching every single character. I am interested in every single story line. That rarely happens to me. Which also means there is really nothing I FF>> through lol.

And I think you are very right about Manuela. In fact, during the opening credits I swear Fernie is kissing her???

OH, other stuff:

--Zoe gets her check from Álvaro

--Cecilo's ad sort of backfires. I bunch of crazies call him.

And things that I laughed at

--Willy's Tututuquequeque bird call is darling. I love it when he does it.

--Zoe telling Álvaro "show me your appreciation with the zeros you put on the check" (loosely translated)

Vocabs
gruñuón(-ona grouchy
me da flojera: I can't be bothered
cacatúa lit cockatoo; fig. old bag
cascarita: when Mauricio (motodude) calls Marisol "cascarita" it is in reference to her playing soccer when they met. It can mean "pick up game"

Sara I too thought Marisol asked Barbara if she was in love with Juancho. Hopefully someone with better comprehension can confirm.

I hope so. I am left VERY confused....

Thank you Sara. I SO appreciate you doing this.

I thought the Willy-getting-the-nun-pregnant schtick was predictable but still hilarious. Beba always makes me laugh; Mariana Karr is having fun with the role. Bibelot Mansur plays Jasmine! I loved her as Rossy in Querida Enemiga.

I also thought that Marisol accused Barbara of having feelings for her cousin, but I was watching on my droid, no CCs so who knows?

I think Poncho and Doris found a pregnant woman just so Doris and get a positive pregnancy test.

Oh and Friday's episodes were 22 and 23. It's hard to keep track with these double episodes, sheesh!

Isabel looked friggin' fantastic in that orange sweater. What a figure!

I am getting very nervous. That's now THREE of us who think Marisol accused Barbara of liking her cousin...and worse, Babs looked kind of guilty!!

Viviiii!!!!! Oh Viviii!!!! Julia??? Art thou reading??

I call upon y'all's power of español... :-)

Marisol did indeed suggest that Barb is into Juancho, and I think she may be right. By the way, I think Barbara and Juancho are second cousins, not first. Barb and Willy G's mother referred to Juancho's mother as her cousin. So, technically there would be no legal or genetic reason Barb and Juancho couldn't get together, it's just too close and still ick for some of us.

I didn't get what the deal was about Mauricio Rossi except that the other girl thought he was all that. I don't think Marisol ever let her explain.

I cannot BELIEVE our previously smart galán would let Poncho back into the company. Really, we're supposed to believe there are no computer repair people in Mexico City other than one clueless incompetent and the guy who already sabotaged them? Beanie time. Where's the Nerd Herd when we need it? I know Chuck is willing to travel.

I don't think Doris is planning to buy a baby (at least for now), I think she just was paying a woman for her urine to get a positive pregnancy test. It was funny and creepy the way Poncho was approaching every pregnant (and not pregnant, but offended) woman he saw. They couldn't have expected to get a woman who would actually give up her baby that way, but a woman who could just use some extra cash? More feasible. They're pretending Doris is two months along, I think. She rejected the idea of fake tummies, so maybe she plans to get Fernando to marry her and then suffer a tragic "miscarriage".

Thank you thank you thank you!!! Man, I was not listening at all, was I??

Ok. I guess they are technically ok. But count me as someone who kind of feels squicky about it.

"I cannot BELIEVE our previously smart galán would let Poncho back into the company.... Beanie time."

With 225 episodes, I suspect we will need multiple beanie adjustments and ridiculous situations...

oops. Make that 206 episodes.

Wonderful episode! I got "fake pregnancy" AND "fainting." And no, since you ask, I DON'T mind playing bingo all by myself. :)

I think I may print a card (without preveiwing) and start playing tomorrow. LOL

Let me know which card you're playing, and I'll help you remember anything that fits. ;}

I saw Friday's episode, and definitely Barbara was asked if she liked her cousin. (I have CCs.)

I love this novela, but 2 hours a day is hard to take. I end up "coasting" through it, half-listening, trying to pay attention when something interesting comes on, but still missing a lot. I guess that's better than not watching at all.

Diego Olivera is adorable. And so tall! Sigh.

I've seen comments from viewers on the Univison forums stating that two hours is hard.

What is the deal with Univision and their obsession with two hour episodes? UFCS, Refugio, Amorcito...and they did it for a while with Triunfo, too.

I suppose it must not tank the ratings too much, or they wouldn't do it. Or am I being too logical?

No, I think you are right. Obviously it doesn't hurt ratings too much or they wouldn't do it.

I mean, look at me. They switched to two hours and I didn't give up Amorcito.

Darn Televisa and their shows you can't quit!! :-)

Ok. I printed my card. #15. It doesn't look promising. I've asked before: can I mark retroactively?

Julia has decreed that it's okay to mark retroactively to the beginning of the TN. I am being noble, though, and NOT marking either "character travels out of country" or the much-coveted "fall down stairs" as both happened before the action of the TN began.

Sigh. They are very impressive stairs.

I am being noble, though, and NOT marking either "character travels out of country" or the much-coveted "fall down stairs" as both happened before the action of the TN began.
----
oooo. Conundrum. I wonder if Julia will weigh in. While these actions did indeed happen "before" the TN, the fall down the stairs (or possible escaleracide) was actually shown.

Being the competitive and non-noble type I would *totally* mark off "fall down stairs."

Crap. Card #15 contains "Fall down stairs" and I don't have the chutzpah to mark it.

PS: Would you consider what Álvaro did to Zoe "blackmail"? (that is, cutting off the insurance/credit cards.)

We have ruled before that if it is shown on screen, even in flashback, we can mark it off our bingo cards.

Maybe I'll start playing. What numbers are you all playing? I'll randomly pick a different one.

Hmmm. Would you mark off "coma," even though Juancho's mother was pretty much a non-character who was only onscreen for about 3 seconds (albeit unconscious)? Just wondering, tra-la.

And I'm crossing my fingers for Daniel Arenas/Diego Oliveras "gratuitous shirtlessness."

Srlsly. Diego is dreamy...

No. Blackmail involves secrets & wrongdoing. Zoe didn't do anything wrong, and Al's the one with the secret. ;}

I'm always on #8. I'm attached to it now.

Sara marks off *fall down stairs*...

I think what Alvaro did to Zoe is bribery, but what Zoe is doing to Alvaro (give me a big check or I won't play hostess to your clients and I'll tell them about your shower buddy) seems like blackmail.

Oh, Sara, we've already had "gratuitous shirtlessness" -- Alvaro when he ran right from the shower into the street in nothing but his towel -- but you are of course free to wish for more.

I think I might print one for Abismo, too.

It really is kind of fun to play...

Ha! I agree with Julia ('cause it gets me another marked square.)

I will wait until Daniel or Diego are shirtless. :-P

Okay, I am playing card 7.

Wheee!

As for the coma. It seems to me a coma is a coma. It was shown onscreen wasn't it?

I'm asking since "coma" is on my card, too.

Coma is on my card, too. I say we all mark it. Has Isa kissed Poncho? She did at least when he serenaded her, right?

#7 is a bad card. I have to root for Fernando to get en flagrante with someone other than Isa!

I can't remember if Isa and Poncho kissed.

I've got "Galan is intimate with someone other than Protagonista" on my card too. Though it doesn't seem likely right now...we still have 183 episodes.

Well, this has been a VERY good day for bingo. I'll tell the two of you what I have, and you can mark them on your cards as well if they appear:

Gratuitous shirtlessness (Alvaro)

Fainting (Beba)

Protagonista talks out loud to self (Isabel)

Faked pregnancy (Doris -- shown in previews, so I'm sure it's coming)

Coma (Juancho's Mom)

Fall down stairs (Sofía)

"¿Qué haces aquí?" (can't remember the specifics, but it's definitely happened)

Character says title of show (Willy)

Maybe Manuela will come back and then leave again, and I can get "character travels out of country."

And no, I'm not rooting for it.

I have "need for blood donor" on mine. Will it count when Tuqueque needs his kidney donor...'cause I know he will need one. There has been too much set up for it.

What I mean is are there two different squares: "need for blood donor" AND "need for organ donor"?

(I haven't seen all the cards.)

I've got one row of bingo on Abismo but have been stymied on double-bingo since my center square is "te amo tanto" and Dam Stupid keeps saying "cuánto te amo." Dimwit.

Does anyone have kissing on beach?

Did Juancho and Marisol kiss on the beach? I know they met on the beach...

I've got one row of bingo on Abismo but have been stymied on double-bingo since my center square is "te amo tanto" and Dam Stupid keeps saying "cuánto te amo." Dimwit.
----
LMAO and spewing coffee.

EEEEEK! I have "kissing on beach." Did they? Did they?

Clearly we are at home and hitting "refresh"....

P.S. If that was a real vacuum cleaner Juancho had, we get "product placement," too.
