Amor Bravío #15 (Uni 10) Fri 8/24/12 Confrontations for Camila With Mystery Man Dan and So Where's The Beef-cake Alonso

Capítulo 15

Lo del Pasado:

Dan’s snuck onto the grounds of Hacienda La Malquerida for a look-see.  Camila has gone out onto the balcony for some much needed fresh air.  Dan manages to stay hidden in the bushes and trees when Leoncio shows up with his shotgun, making the rounds.  Alonso finally makes it home and enters the bedroom where Cami angrily confronts him for not telling her he’d stopped going to therapy.  Ruh-Roh!  Busted!! Lonnie goes ballistic cuz she’s been “checking up on him”.  (Naw, his little woman’s just much smarter than he can give a female credit for, and she caught him in his crappy, lazy little lie!) Lon hops on the Excuse Express uhh-gain, moon-walking double-time as he “explains” how the doc said nothing’s wrong with him; that she is the only reason he can’t get any pump in his stump.  Camila is just as furious and rather than try sleeping with the enemy, she leaves Alonso to snuggle with and growl at his pillow.  (Break to a scene of the bulls.  Chug a lug!)

Racing out across the grounds towards the guest house (?) Cami  runs into Luzmaria who’s been making out with her high school hunkster, Paulo.  Cam puts a stop to that just in time for Leoncio to come over and avoid his making a scene with his niece.  (One man, once per night’s definitely enough, we agree!)  Cam heads off.  When Luzma tries to leave, though, Leoncio grabs her and threatens that she’d better not try putting one over on him (verme la cara) or to try using Sra. Camila to cover for her (como tapadera) or there’ll be Hell to pay.

Lo Del Nuevo:

Lonnie storms through the grounds after Cami.  He bangs on the door and begs then for her to open the door and let them finish their conversation.  Cam gives in.  She’s tired, she screams, of the humiliations, the insinuations, the lies and the insults. “What’s next, eh?” He attempts to forcibly kiss and hug her to show her that he luhhhvs her, but she manages to slip out from under and push away from him.  She can’t stand to have him touch her.  There’s no love in this relationship, she screams back!  He doesn’t make her feel a thing!  There’s nothing to discuss, anyway, if he won’t see the shrink—that proves he doesn’t really love her!  The irate little weasel demands to have her back in their bedroom, in their bed next to him by tomorrow morning when he wakes up.  Ha! Think again, you ferret-faced, nibbling-nosed, nail-gnawing nudnik!! “—Get! Out!  Get out of here before I say something I shouldn’t!!  (Aw, go ahead!  Let loose!)  Eventually she manages to shove his bony little ass back out the door.  (Whoo-ee! Viewerville is as exhausted as Camila after this scene!!) Her frustration and sense of being trapped is palpable as she bangs her fists against the door and fights the desire to pull her hair out by the roots. (It goes without saying that this is why Silvia Navarro is the best dramatic actress in Mexico!)  Silent sobs rack her body and she slides slowly to the floor, shattered and drained.

The next morning Luzma thanks Sra. Camila for covering for her, but before they can go into why her uncle would naturally be an overprotective jerk, Dionisio and Lon show up.  Dio has news for all of them.  Cam purposely snubs the hubs for delightful Dio and his silver-tongued ways, and they walk back inside the hacienda to listen to what he has to say.

Inside, in the living room, Dio after also slobbering and gushing over Agustino, sits them down and tells them he’s “had word” that DDA’s wife is dead.  He embellishes and adds that they’ve also assumed since there’s been no sighting of Daniel that they’ve suspended the search and consider him legally dead as well.  So, there’s no reason that Camila can’t take over possession of the hacienda.  Cam says no, she’ll wait the rest of the remaining nine months as the law requires.  Er…of course, agrees Dio, in that honeyed voice of his.  --And for sure, once he receives the death certificate he’ll have it sent right over! (Fraud alert!)

Back at the little bed and breakfast, Natalia is finishing breakfast with Dan who reminds her to ask if there’s a job open at the rancho today.

At Hacienda La Malquerida, Lonnie has followed Cami out to the driveway, tracking her down.  Cam says she’s off to town to “do things” but squirmy Lonnie wants to hash over last night’s argument.  She refuses.  He refuses then to let her have Rodolfo drive her into town, saying the ranch hand has too many urgent, ranch-related chores to take care of.  “—You know I can’t drive myself, Alonso.”  He starts chewing on his claws.  “—Oh, that’s right. That’s right…..  Oh well.  Sorry about that.”  He shrugs and actually sneers.  Camila holds back from slamming him upside the head with her purse (or the nearest, biggest rock she can grab) and struts angrily away, but at least she has her dignity intact.  (Good girl!)

At Amanda’s B&B again, Amanda absent-mindedly drops a bit of cash on the floor and walks out of the room.  Honest Dan sees the bill and sticks it into the cash box, then tells Amanda about it the moment she walks back into the room.  Amanda is really impressed with her new tenant.

Meanwhile, Nat races towards the kitchen door at the MQ.  Leoncio (I still can’t figure out whether he’s big and dumb or just big) stops her, trying to make time with pretty, chatty Natty. He mentions she needs a boyfriend and he’d like it to be him.  Nat politely (translation: she fights wrinkling up her nose and laughing in his face) tells him she’d rather they just stay “friends”.  (Good move, Nat. He’s way old and pretty fug ugly, not to mention pathetically ridiculous wearing that security blankie of a serape and that head-scarf all the time!)

Cami tells Mama she’s just had another spat with hubby and he won’t let her use ranch personnel to drive her places now and so, she’s called a cab.  Mama apparently heard the knock-down, drag-out last night and is taking Alonso&so’s side again.  She won’t start driving again, she says, but she’s got to find a way to solve the problem and stop depending on others.  (Camila, maybe you need to see a shrink yourself to work through this guilt thing and to become totally self-dependent.  Who knows when you might have to use a car to race to safety from this weirdo??)

Nat and Lon are in his office.  He puts her in charge of his e-mails and sends her out for coffee.  In comes Rodolfo to ask what the important chores are that he’s got planned for him today.  Lon lies and says he…er…took care of them some other way or such.  He then emphasizes to Rodolfo that he was hired to help Camila with the bulls, not to be her chauffeur!  Got it??

Mama calls then and Lonnie shoos Rod out of the room.  Mama says they need to talk about his wife.  He whines to her that Camila is totally out of control and it cannot go on like this!

Speaking of mothers, Amanda is chatting with Padre Baldomero and mentions how her new boarder turns out to be an honest sort and somebody she thinks has caught Natily’s eye.

Dan, meanwhile, has gone to the church to pray.  He talks to his mama in heaven and tells her he’s come to Mexico but that things are much different than either of them thought they’d turn out to be.  He is depressed to the point of thinking of ending it all; he feels lost without his loved ones.  He prays to the crucifix and asks for help finding justice.  “—If Camila Monterde and her family were responsible for what happened to my Miriam, make them pay for all the harm they’ve caused!!”  He crosses himself on his way out the door just as Amanda and Padre are entering.  They only catch a glimpse of him.  When Amanda explains who that he’s her new tenant, the one without papers, Padre B says he seems familiar but just can’t place him.  Amanda says he’s Andres Duarte and later she’ll introduce him.

Dan just happens to be walking by Vivian’s house when Cam’s cab pulls up.  He opens the door for her. Cam is wide-eyed impactado. “—You?”  “—Nice to see you again.  Have a very, very nice day!” (Miriam?  Miriam who?)  He slyly gives her the once-over.  Cam is all smiles. “—You too!”  She turns around and he’s gone.  Viv opens the gate.  Dan comes out from the tree he’s been hiding behind all this while.  He decides to stick around.

Rod tells Natty, meanwhile, about the argument between Lon and Cami and mentions that he’s forbidden to drive her around any longer.  Nat tells him the history of Cam’s tragic auto accident.  Leoncio sneaks up behind them then and snidely tells Rod to get to work.

Meanwhile, at Mama-Dora’s, Isadora tells Lonnie she’s decided it’s time he finds out once and for all if the problem with his stumped pump is just with his wife or with any woman.  It could be, says Mama-Dora, that Cami’s not interested..er…in men is all.  She hands him a hotel key and tells him to take it and find out.

At the same time, Cami complains to Viv that she has no desire to return to her rancho and explains why.  Viv can’t understand how she’s tolerated it for so long and suggests Cami should give herself a set amount of time to decide if her marriage is getting better or not.  In fact, she says, it’s not a divorce she needs to be thinking about, but an annulment, if the hubby can’t get a nubby in his stubby.  Heck, says Vivi, Cami can start from scratch again—choose anybody she wants to, but within limits, of course.  (Excuse me?  As much as I like Viv’s character, what does she of the Bohemian lifestyle know about limits and boundaries?)

A bit later, Devilish Dio invites Mama-Dora to lunch for just the two of them alone.

Piadad tries a little chit-chat with Gussie about men and marriage.  Why hasn’t the Sra. remarried? Gussie laughs. “—Been there; done that.”  [Yo estoy curada de espantos.= lit. “I am cured of the frights.]  Piedad and Gussie seem to be making friends with each other.

Speaking of espantos, Al arrives at the hotel room—with a full box of rubbers (chug-a-lug!)-- and enters.  There’s a hooker waiting on the bed for him.

Viv and Cami are back out on the street getting ready to get into Viv’s car and head to the restaurant for lunch when Cam notices Dan standing there next to the tree.  She gets upset and asks if he’s been following her or what, cuz she sees him everywhere she goes!  “--Who the heck are you, anyway?”  (Sorry.  This dude, this computer genius, has been out there for thirty minutes behind that tree, knowing she could come back out any minute and find him still standing there.  What the heck was this braniac doing there all that time, anyway?  Takin’ a whizz and playing Rorschach  with the clouds?)  Dan stares and gives her another sexy-eyed once over while he stalls for time to think of a reasonably innocent reply—or, maybe, something out of the Joe Cool Manual for Macho Males On The Lam.

Well, it seems things aren’t going well for Al, either.  He’s just struck out with the hooker, too!! Angry with himself, he throws her out the door, along with the box of condoms, and starts banging the wall.

Back to Cami and Dan the Man.  He’s still stumbling around and hoping for an answer, any answer!  “—Who are you?? Hurry it up or I’m calling the police!”   “—Well, you are a woman you just don’t mess with, huh [una mujer de armas tomar]?”  “—That’s right! So don’t try being a smart-ass! [pasarse de listo]  Tell me who you are!!” Dan tries deflecting. “—So, you mean you’ve never tried to be a smart-ass with anyone?”  “—Stop with these little games and either tell me who you are or I am going to call the police!”  “—I am…er… someone who admires your beauty and considers you very lovely.”  Cami suddenly ain’t in the mood and tells him he’s just “pathetic.”  “—Don’t come near me again!”  Vivi, though, is drop-jaw impactada at the daring of this hunk of beefcake and tells Cami as much on the ride to the restaurant.  Yeah, answers Cami, a good-looking guy like that is probably a player and thinks that with one little stare he can get all that he wants!  Vivi reminds her she is a good-looking gal and so….  Well, says Cami, it’s disrespectful of him to try that!  “--I am a married woman—a.married.woman!”  “--Oh yeah?  Well how was he supposed to know that?”  “—Oops!  I guess I was overdoing it a bit, huh?”

Dio and Dora, meanwhile, arrive at the restaurant and are shown to a table.  She wants to toast to their business deal.  He’d rather toast to her beautiful eyes.  Clink!  He mentions he’s not too thrilled that everything they’ve invested in so far depends on the likes of Alonso.  She’s hoping he didn’t mean that threat he made to her son yesterday.  Well, says Dio, business is business, but then he also did it to put pressure on Alonso.  Don’t worry about him, says Dora.  I’m managing him.  “--Ah, that makes me feel a bit easier.”  They toast again that “All will turn out very well.”  He takes her hand, says a few schmaltzy things, and starts nibbling at her fingers…..

It seems that Viv, Cami and Rafe have chosen the same restaurant but are yukking it up in a different dining room.  Cami excuses herself to go to the ladies’ room.  Dio and Dora notice her passing by and Dio calls out to her.  Where’s hubby?  He’s not with her.  She’s with some friends.  Dora raises not one but both eyebrows.  “—Friends???”  Yes.  They’re there for a business dinner, mentions Dio, something he’d like to present to her mama as well.  How nice.  She continues on to the restroom.  Neither of the two old fogies is happy to see her, a newlywed, out about town without her husband.  Something needs to be done about that, says Dio, right?

Cami doesn’t get home till early evening.  She runs into Nat who’s starting for home.  Nat asks about a job for a male friend of hers.  Cami at first says no, then thinks better about it and tells her to have her friend see Leoncio the next morning.

Mama-Dora makes a call to Lonnie to see how things went, but he’s now three sheets to the wind and ready to chug down another of gawd knows how many bottles of booze.  Why can’t she just leave him be, he peevishly slobbers into the phone?  Shouldn’t he be home looking after his wife, asks Mama?  Nope.  He doesn’t want anything to do with either her or his wife, thank you very much!  Click.

In Amanda’s kitchen, Nat tells Dan that she got him an interview with the foreman at La Malquerida.  He asks if Nat mentioned him to Camila?  No. Just said it was a friend. He tells her he’ll owe her one for the rest of his life if it all works out. Nat looks wistfully down at the tablecloth. Amanda says she’ll light a candle and say a prayer for him.  He mentions it’s important that he gets a job there at the ranch…er…or he won’t be able to stick around town much longer.  Nat, we notice along with Amanda, will not be a happy camper if that happens.

Later that night, Gussie visits Cami in the guest bedroom and says it’s obvious she and Al have some serious problems.  Yep!  Well, Mama says, she won’t get nosy and will wait till Cam is ready to talk to her about it.  Good!  BTW, adds Mama, Al left right after she did and nobody has heard a word from him.  He’s still gone!  Well maybe he just had to get away himself, says Cami.  Gussie asks where she escaped to.  Cam mentions eating out and spending the day with Viviana and Rafael, and how she ran into Dio.  She tells her mom about the business investment deal Dio said he was thinking of making with Gussie.  Gussie blushes that he could ever want to ask her to invest in anything with him.  Cam picks up on that and asks if Mama’s got a thing for Mr. Smooth Moves.  Gussie changes the subject to getting the hacienda assessed.  Cami may feel the true worth is its sentimental value, but DDA sure won’t, says Mama.  “El Bastardo needs to know the true value of what he’s taking over, if he ever shows up here.”  Cami seems to think Gussie makes sense in the end and agrees.

The next morning, Cami gets a call from the area ranch owners’ association.  They’ve decided to posthumously recognize Tío Daniel for his stock expertise.  Mama would like to spit still because of what her BIL pulled.  No, says Camila, because of that she will have the chance to get to meet this other Daniel, and perhaps, to have tiny little smidgen of Tío with her still, even if in him.

At the same time, Nat and Dan walk inside the main entrance to the MQ.  Nat says she hopes he’ll be able to stay.  Dan takes a look around him and turns to her.  “—Yes.  That’s how it’ll be.  I’m staying, I promise you that!”

Comments:
I see it didn't take long for Alonso to use Camila's driving phobia against her. She needs to get over that ASAP.

Alonso looking at the photo gave me the chills. Dog danger alert!

How about Isadora Dragon setting him up with a hooker? Made me think of Agrippinilla in I, Claudius offering to set up her son with a slave housemaid. I was expecting that hooker to yell "You are imputent!" at him.

BTW, can anyone else think of a previous novela character who suffered from impotence?

Actually, I was surprised that Alonso didn't function well with the prostitute. He had always claimed that it was only with Camila that he had problems, and I assumed that he was telling the truth (for once). I figured that he couldn't manage with a "good" woman, especially one he was under pressure to make happy, but that with a prostitute he would be fine. And that he would then use his success with the prostitute as evidence that the problem was Camila, not him. But apparently I was wrong (again).

Camila has some neat wrasslin' moves. Two duck and spin's to evade Alonso's out of control robot gone crazy touchy, touchy, I love you's. He has picked up the crazy considerably with his hand jestures. This is some fine acting in my book. He didn't fare much better with the lady of anoche but he was there because his mommie told him too based on some weird notion that this will prove that it is Camila's fault. No action Jackson is he as he got more rejection.

And, I must have gone to sleep and missed how Dionisio entered this TN. Why in the world would Camila trust this guy she doesn't know with anything, let alone all the hugs. How did he get to be such a trusted member of the family.

I didn't believe him then. I'm willing to bet he has had no successful sexual experiences with women and is either asexual or gay.

Sexual dysfunction is not uncommon among control freaks. Just read Sex Lives of the Great Dictators if you nee evidence.

I just assumed that as his frustration and sense of impotence (not just in the bedroom) grew, Alonso's problem as gotten worse. I think he did used to be able to do the deed with 1 night stand women, but has now lost control of everything. Having his mommy arrange the tryst doesn't help things either.

As fro why Camila trusts Dio, well a few months have passed since the wedding, and Camila has been opening herself up to new friendships since her Tio died, including Vivi and the writer. Even though she thinks he's a crap husband, she still believes Alonso is a good trustworthy person, so she trusts that Dio, his friend, is a good person too. She may also just miss the presence of a strong older man since her tio died. So far she's just trusting him with the info gathering in Chile, since he supposedly has business and lots of contacts there.

I agree with Vivi, I think his problems have gotten worse as more pressure has been applied on him from mommy and Dio.

I didn't like this episode very much. I wished that Daniel didn't say what he said for the reason of his following her. It was a bit too much. And I still don't get Lioncio. Is he trying to make a play for Natalia? Yuck.

Cathyx, I think he is, and that is beyond creepy. That's why he has it in for Rudolfo, who is young and hot.

I think Daniel should just have said that he was hoping she'd have a job opening for him. That's how to get in the door no matter why you're trying to get in. I'm waiting for the Padre to recognize him.

I agree that it was a big mistake for Daniel (and the writers) to give the lame-brained explanation that he did to Camila. It also seemed somehow out of character.

I agree, too, with those who feel that Alonso's problem has been getting worse, and that Mommy dearest making the arrangements for the prostitute didn't help, either. I was nonetheless surprised, since succeeding with the prostitute would have been the perfect "evidence" in Alonso's mind that Camila is the cause of his problem. But, in retrospect, that probably just added to the pressure.

You could make a case for either, but Mommy Direst interfering is likely to make it worse instead of better.

The second he told her about his "problem" he was doomed, but since he didn't go back to the shrink a second time I don't feel any pity for him.

Alonso is one sicko, in more ways than one. What in the world was he doing to that poor, innocent wall?

Hi! I used to be a very intermittent poster, and now I'm back after not watching any TNs for a year or 2. (I just posted on the Abismo page too.)

It looks like they are going to make Natalia fall for Daniel. So then will Camila have to fight for him?

In that case, it would be
* Camila vs Natalia for Daniel
* Alonso vs Daniel vs Writer for Camila
* Isadora vs Agustina for Dionisio (love the Dante references!)

[BTW, I don't know why Camila "never thought" of an annulment until Vivi mentioned it to her MONTHS later! I mean, she should have been thinking "How can I get out of this" after he started acting crazy on the honeymoon! I was thinking that she is a smart woman, so that concept shouldn't have been so foreign.]

Looking forward to seeing how Daniel reveals himself ... Will Padre out him? Thanks for all of the recaps everyone!

One thing that is bothering me about the pairing of my new boyfriend and Camila is that Camila looks a little older than him. She looks to be about 32-35, and he looks to be about 27-30. I know I shouldn't think there is anything wrong with that, after all, I'm quite a bit older than him myself. But for some reason, I'm not buying his attraction to her. Hopefully I will in the coming episodes.

Really Cathy? CdlF does not look that young to me. He looks like a hot man in his mid-30s. Just perfect for me. :)

I'm guessing that Camila thought about divorce for sure, but not annulment. Wouldn't annulling the marriage pretty much make it public that Alonso couldn't get it up? There aren't that many reasons for annulment in the Catholic Church. I could see Camila not wanting to make Alonso's humiliation public like that.

In CME, SN's character sought annulment based on fraud-- because her husband came into the marriage with the bad/hidden intent of getting revenge. If she finds out about Alonso's true intent to fleece her, that's an added justification for annulment. But she probably won't find out about that plot for a LONG time.

I don't think the Padre will out him, but I think he will confront him. Daniel will tell him everything and the Padre will believe him. The only question then will be whether Daniel believes the Padre about Camila's character.

Ewwwwwwweeeeeeee what a capitulo for AlLocoLonso

Anon1:22 The wall scene (I also wondereded about that) was the epitome of narcissistic collapse. Yikes. This was a Tony Perkins Psycho moment with the drunken mumsy phone call to boot. This actor also played a psycho impotent guy in "Mahogany", btw, which is why he comes to mind with my comparison.

UA:Rodrigo in DA suffered a spell of impotence.

Where is the gingko biloba? I did watch DA.

It would be very interesting if Alonssso turned out to be gay instead. You know he won't be able to handle that and Mama Dragon will have a conniption.

Great comments from all today.

UA - I'm worried about Maja, too. Lots of foreshadowing there, I fear.

It did seem odd that Camila didn't realize that an annulment is possible, but she really is a very conservatively-raised person, as she says. Her intelligence, achievement as a veterinarian and ethics go together with a very traditional upbringing. I like that about the character and this it's a combination of traits more common among well-off Latin American families that it would be among Americans. I believe she's supposed to be a virgin, too. i doubt that she had sex with Luis and nothing with Alonso.

I don't know if it's been established that she's a virgin. She never answered Alonso's questions about comparing him (sexually) with Luis. Plus, she and Luis were together six long years. They waited till they were done with their professional degrees to marry. But they might have also waited for that too.

UA - ITA about Alooser looking at the pic of the dog. I hope someone save Maya from him.

Juanita - Though I was surprised Alooser couldn't function, it goes with his whiner and dysfunctional character.

RP - yes what was Alooser doing to that poor wall? I'm glad I'm not the only one who was disturbed by that.

Cathyx - Creepy serape guy seems to be a rapist waiting to happen. In addition to Natalia, it seems he's hitting on his neice. It won't be a leap for him to become Alooser's henchman.

Vivi - regarding your comment on CdlF, I like where your head's at ;)

Netgirl - Welcome and please post more.

Vivi - Good point about Camila seeking an annulment and having to give the bishop a reason. She doesn't have a vindictive personality, and I don't think she'd embarrass Alonsno by stating his impotence. So something else has to end this marriage. Divorce, death, incapacitation/coma? We already have one coma happening in Chile. Isn't one coma per TN the limit?

Weird serape guy Leoncio gives of baaad vibes. He looks like the local rapist/murderer to me. Natalie needs to stay far away from him.

And Isadora is going to go Kimodo dragon wild when she realizes what didn't happen between her little lizard and the pro.
Anya

Gee, am I the only foul-minded viewer who thought she knew exactly was Alonso was doing to--or perhaps with the wall?

Netgirl: Welcome!

==========
Juanita: nope! Je-je.

Juanita, no you're not the only one, but I prefer not to think about it. Yuck. But I will say that I think that the actor is doing a great job portraying Alonso. Right down to the nail biting.

Stumped pump! Jardinera, you are inspired. So many good and funny lines. glad you are recapping this one, and on the weekend.

I thought Amanda intentionally left the money out to test DDA.

DDA can stalk me anytime. I know Viviana was like "heeeeeyyy". And Camila you were too, so don't even try to deny it.

It was disturbing with Ivan of LFDD moletested the wall and it's disturbing here that Alonso raped the wall.

Dionisio has been nothing but charming and helpful to Camila so why wouldn't she trust him?

He can't get any pump in his stump, just wow! And I agree with you about Silvia being the best in Mexico. Thank you so much Jardinera for an entertaining recap.

One would wonder why Dionisio is pushing so hard for the hacienda to come back into Monterde hands. As far as they know, he has no stake in this claim.

So at the end, did Dan get the job when he said he was definitely staying? Or was that wishful thinking.

Brilliant Jardinera! Stumped pump had me giggling too.

I'm not going to be too hard on Dan for coming up with his lame excuse for stalking Camila. I actually think saying he was stalking her for a job would have been more creepy, because that would imply he knew exactly who she was and that she had a ranch. That would just be scary. It's best that he leave it as I am admiring the beauty of a lovely lady I've been seeing around town.

He has two obstacles for getting a job at the ranch-- Leoncio who won't like having another young buck around competing for Nat's affection; and Camila herself, who might be a bit reluctant to hire a guy who has admitted to having the hots for her. Al might have the same issue with his as Leoncio. Dan is just too pretty for his own good.

Jardinera thanks for your recap. Your numerous alliterative descriptions of Alooser's "problem" were hilarious.

Camila is going to have to get over her driving phobia soon.

I know Dio and Isa are evil but when they keep on talking about controlling Camila I feel likes the 18th or 19th century. Even if Alooser wasn't her husband, why do they think she would be under thumb as if she can't think for herself particularly when he can't reason his way out of a paper bag?

Anon207 - loved your list. I think Camila over-reacted b/c DDA arouses feelings in her she thought died w/Luis.

Delightful recap, Jardinera. Loved all your snark, not just "stumped pump" (though that was clearly a winner) but also "Lon hops on the Excuse Express," "(Miriam? Miriam who?)," and this wonderful exercise in understatement: "Think again, you ferret-faced, nibbling-nosed, nail-gnawing nudnik!!"

I also greatly appreciated your including some Spanish vocab that I was about to look up. ¡Muchísimas gracias!

I agree with Cathyx that SN looks a wee bit older than CdlF. But I goggled them and found that Wikipedia states that SN is 33 and CdlF is 38. If that's true, he's aging very well indeed and may have a long career as a galan.

I also discovered that he was on Dancing with the Stars in 2008. Cheryl Burke was his partner and they came in third. Videos of the pair dancing are on YouTube. That's probably why he looked familiar to me. And when he speaks English, he's got a great accent!

He's not nearly as fluid a dancer as William Levy was, and he came across as a bit stuck-up in the interviews.

BTW: I saw some photos of the actor playing Alonso, and with his hair long and fluffed up and with a beard, he doesn't look so creepy, just like a regular guy. Great acting ... and great work from the makeup department!

This novela is at least giving us some character development, which we did not get with Bruno in LQNPA. A mother like Alonso's would drive a person loco!

Aleta

Thank you, Jardinera! Very good prediction about the fake death certificates! I hadn't thought of that, but of course, Dionisio will produce one or more to muddy the waters. And thank you (and all the recappers) for your vocabulary--especially the phrases. Those are hard to pick up and/or translate anyplace else.

UA, did you have someone in mind when you posed your impotence question? I couldn't think of anyone, but I usually only watch one novela at a time, so have missed some good ones over the years. If I want to see them, I get the severely truncated DVD versions. Which reminds me, Fabian Robles, our beloved Efrain from LQNPA, played the most evil villain in Apuesta por un Amor (which I saw on DVD). I love your lists.

JaneS, no. I had forgotten about Rodrigo of DA because as the story's hero you knew that condition was only going to be resolved when he met its heroine.

I didn't watch Apuesta because I didn't like the two leads. You'll have to fill me in on Fabian Robles' character so I can put him in a future list.

The fake death certificates will definitely complicate matters, especially if Abe sees fit to leave Chile for further investigation.

BTW, I don't think Camila is a virgin. It's too much of a stretch to imagine that she and Luis waited six years.

Thanks, all! Glad to give you a few chuckles or smiles out there.

JaneS: Welcome to the weekend recap!
=============
UrbanA: Lon's using Camila's phobia to try to maintain control over her was pretty darned low IMO. As slimy as any villana has ever done. The actor played that part perfectly--actually, as a character actor, tho' he's hard to watch, he is extremely credible in this part and I owe him kudo's for his performnce.

You had to wonder also if Mama-Dora hand-picked the hooker for Sonnie which would have been reason enough to see it fail.

Karen: " I think Camila over-reacted b/c DDA arouses feelings in her she thought died w/Luis." ITA. Guilt for not being "true" to her memory of Luis and for definitely NOT feeling this way about the hubby.
==========
Netgirl: Most of the time these things have the galán making or having a best friend. So far we really haven't seen Dan in this situation. Makes me wonder of Rafael Quintana will become Dan's friend as well as rival for Camila.

Juanita/Vivi/Trav Lady: "as his frustration and sense of impotence (not just in the bedroom) grew, Alonso's problem as gotten worse" --ITA. Mama-Dora's constantly sticking her "attentive" nose into his business is frustrating enough and the resulting impotence is driving him mad as a hatter. I can only imagine what else he might do to Camila and those she loves--including dogs and horses--as things progress/go downhill.

Mena: "AlLocoLonso" that's a keeper! LOL!

i think alonso is a germaphobe, with his hand sanitizer at the ready, and telling Nat to go wash her hands. i bet he thinks ladyparts are germ infested!! no wonder he can't get it up. also i got some weird incest vibes about mommy. ew.

and what is Dion's evil plan? what ws the contract that alsonso signed? what do they intend to do with the ranch? golf course? how come golf is never in TNs?

thanks so much for the recappers. what would i ever do without them!

Mai tai: Welcome to the weekend recap!

Good question about golf in telenovelas. I can't honestly remember if DA had a bit of golf in it or not, but that would be the only one I'd think might.

I don't recall any golf scenes in DA, do you, Mena? But Un Refugio Para El Amor, in progress on Univision, has had some.

thanks jardinera. i'm a huge fan of caray caray. the summarizers, the comments, the community!

not that i'm a fan of golf. but it's something touristico, right? they should send grupo imperial down to asses the place!!

and what if vivi is gay? how could she let that cute journalist sleep in the guest room! i'd be all over him! i think she's totes into camilla.

janeS how do you get DVDs? are you purchasing them, or are there lending libraries? i'm at a university, so they have a couple (reina del sur, pasion de galivanes) but i'd love to see more for free.

Yes, Refugio's rich family invests in golf clubs in Mexico and Miami as part of their large business empire.

Anon, you can find some older ones online. They won't have subtitles, but some have excellent video quality.

Golf? Was there a golf segment in La Fea? Where Lety's dad played golf with some rich guys while they were filming that endless commercial?
La Paloma

JaneS, I don't remember any golfing in DA,just lots and lots of tequila and una danza folklorica with machetes between Gaviota and Rodrigo.
Jardinera, AlLocoLonso it is!I've recently taken to calling Daniel, Dandres to keep his incognito status in mind.

Anon, I purchased several titles on DVD when I first started watching telenovelas, mostly because I wanted to see a favorite actor in another role. I purchased Apuesta Por Un Amor to see Paty Monterola who had played Erica, the psychologist in Destilando Amor. I also bought Dulce Desafio (1988) with Eduardo Yanez and Adela Noriega, which was well worth the money to watch those actors at work 20 years ago! I believe there are quite a number of the novelas on disk available on Netflix now. Some are edited better than others, and I read the Amazon reviews to determine if the editing will bother me or not. It's been mentioned here before that the music on these DVD editions is rarely the same or as good as in the full length original, which is a disappointment if you've seen the original.

UA, I'll have some of your gingko biloba, if you don't mind! I can't remember Fabian Robles' exact crimes in Apuesta, or even his character's name! I'll review the DVD and post a comment on your villains page.

Mena, I'd forgotten about the machete dance in DA! Rodrigo was really my kinda guy!

JaneS: EY was mine also, till he opened his mouth to sing! There's too much ego and there's too much ego.

Finally, I'm hooked!!! Cam's scenes with Alonso showed me the SN I know and love has still got it.

I was catching up with a couple of eps I missed last week this weekend. In one scene, Alonso reminded me of Renfield--creeping me out even more. I also noticed Leo pawing Natalia. Ugh!! I see from today's recap he asked her to be his girlfriend. Double ugh! I don't trust him not to take what he's not given.

I haven't read the comments yet, so someone else may have noted this, but it looked like Amanda dropped the money on purpose to test Dan.

A few more comments:

Jardinera: great recap as always.

I think SN might look older because of the way they've styled her hair. Usually, it's curly and wild. Plus, her character isn't as carefree in this TN as she was, for the most part, in MEPS and CME.

Aleta: speaking of Wm Levy. I saw a cute M&Ms commercial with him in it. He was good, but the M&M was hysterical. One of the best last lines ever.

Robey

Jane S, EY was yours til he opened his mouth LOL. I am afraid this a hazard with other TN stars.. many think they are singers as well as actors. When they do it in humor I am ok, but when they do as serious entertainers, fast forward time. EY has some checkered history in real life, but I really liked him in DA. I am looking forward to seeing what the role of RS will be in AB. He was also in DA but lost the girl to EY. This is the first TN I have seen with SN. Her presence seems very genuine on camera.. I like her character so far. BTW, Jardinera, the recap was super entertaining. I appreciate training along with masters of the recap!

Little observation, though someone has probably already mentioned it: my friend reminded me that the hand behind the neck thing that Alonso does, Isa does too.

Robey: I saw that commercial too and really liked it myself, tho' I was sort of surprised they'd put him or any novela star in one of those things. But then, they do a stint on something as weird as La Familia Peluche, so I guess I'm just on another wave length.
=======

Mena: You don't need a bit of "training", amiga! You are a born natural!
: ? ))

Noticed Alonso with the neck thing but I'll have to pay attention tonight to see Mama do that also. If that's the case, that shows the amount of professionalism and talent this troupe of actors has, coordinating these sorts of things.
