Amor Bravío #5-6 (Uni 3) Wed 8/15/12
The next day:
Daniel & Miriam's Apartment: He has apparently gotten a job offer, or an interview with Licenciado Becerra.... in Mexico. As good as this sounds, Miriam had never considered the possibility of leaving Chile. She wanted their child to be born there in her country, she would miss her brother and her friends, and have to live in a foreign country. [Miriam, didn't Ruth once say “Whither thou goest, I shall go?”. This is hardly being encouraging.]
Alonso: Don't start singing victory yet, Mother.
Isadora: Dear God, if it's now right now it will still be sooner than we thought. The death of Don Daniel will give us much. (pinching his chin) And all his wealth will pass into our hands.
Alonso (suspicious look): Look, it will belong to Camila.
Isadora (smugly): Ay, ay, dear God, so who will oversee it all? (dismissive hand gesture) Let her be happy with her little animals while you administer everything. And as a woman I tell you that the way to do have her eating out of your hand is to keep her happy and above all, satisfied. (grins as though she were Samantha on Sex & the City)
Alonso: I don't believe it will be that easy. Camila is a difficult woman and it doesn't look like – (starts to bite a claw, but she slaps his hand)
Isadora: Dear God, son, don't deceive me. In all ways you will have to control your wife. Because things will go better if Don Daniel dies without suspicion of what we're planning.
Bulls across the plain...
A few days later...
Camila (still crying): Calm down, Alonso.
Alonso: Your uncle can't do this. He can't leave all this to a stranger. Who is this jerk? Who is this Daniel Diaz Acosta? Who is he?
Augustina: I think I know who he is. (the Padre looks up)
Alonso: Who? Who, Señora? Who is this Daniel Diaz Acosta for whom he disinherits Camila? Who is he?
Camila: Sit down calmly, Alonso. (He actually obeys her)
Augustina: Osvaldo, this young man, this so-and-so Daniel, is the son of Ágatha Acosta of Chile.
Becerra: I don't know, Augustina. For the moment I don't have this information.
Augustina: Padre Baldomero, therefore you should know this. This young man is the son of that woman.
Padre Baldomero: Yes, Augustina.
Camila: But who is this woman?
Augustina: The lover your uncle took up with more than thirty years ago when your uncle was married to my cousin, Amparo.
Alonso: Therefore, this Daniel is the son of –
Augustina (impatient and angry): Yes, yes; he is nothing more than Daniel's bastard son. A child of sin born in Chile after he committed adultery against my poor cousin Amparo.
Padre Baldomero: Please, Augustina, don't go on about things you don't know about.
Augustina (sarcastic): And if he isn't the bastard son why would Daniel leave him this inheritance?
Padre Baldomero: I don't know. And Daniel was within his rights to leave his property to whomever he wanted.
Augustina: What disillusion. I was right; he never stopped thinking of this woman.
Camila: Mother, you calm down. Padre Baldomero is right. The fact is he had the right to leave the inheritance to anyone he wanted to.
Alonso: It's unfair. (pounds the table) It's unfair. Nobody can't take it all.
Daniel & Miriam's Apartment: She is talking on the phone to Dante about medical insurance for Daniel and for their baby; the messenger had just delivered the paperwork. She wishes him a good trip, then puts the papers away. The doorbell rings and she admits her brother. While he says he just dropped in to visit her and to see that she and his future nephew are well, as soon as Daniel enters from another room it is obvious he is there to check up on him and his intention to find work. It is obvious that he suspects Daniel of having married Miriam for her money; to become a kept man. Further, he suspects that the trip to Mexico was for another purpose and that Daniel is a kept man. Daniel is clearly peeved at this accusation as he exits. Miriam is also peeved with her brother.
Camila: I'm glad he left the administration of the ranch to me, but what bothers me the most is that my uncle had a child with another man and nobody told me.
Padre Baldomero: It's that nobody was certain that this young man is the son of Daniel.
Augustina: Please, Padre, it's as clear as water.
Alonso: Whether he is or not is the least of it. He has no right to take it all. What about all your work on the ranch and the love you gave your uncle? It rightfully belongs to you, Camila. We've got to do something to put this right.
Augustina: Alonso is right.
Camila: We will not. I will respect my uncle's decision.
Alonso: But why not? It's a big deal, Camila. (to Becerra) Excuse me. (to Camila) The ranch and everything else of your uncle's is rightfully yours.
Augustina: Yes, Camila, Alonso is right. The young man who never lived with your uncle can't inherit more than you. You were his adored little girl. His niña consentida.
Camila: But this is my uncle's decision and I will complete his wishes, however it must.
Alonso: Your uncle must have been mad to make this decision.
Camila: Enough! I will do as I said. It was his last wish and we will complete it. My uncle trusted me to complete my duties as executrix.
Becerra: Here it is, Camila. I'm sorry, Señor Lazcano.
Camila: Osvaldo, let's get on with it. How do we do it? When do we notify Señor...
Becerra: Daniel Diaz Acosta.
Camila: About the inheritance.
Becerra: Immediately. He lives in Chile. He has a limited time period of a year to claim his inheritance. [plazo]
Alonso: Why the deadline?
Becerra: Because if a year passes and he doesn't claim it and the name of Daniel Monterde, if he renounces it, or if there is a reason he can't do it, all – inluding Rancho La Malquerida – will pass into Camila's hands.
Camila: Nobody will pass up an inheritance this large. We just need to notify him, wait for him to get here, meet him, and help him assume possession.
Augustina: Not a word of this to anyone, please. Nobody must know why my brother-in-law didn't leave the ranch to my daughter. But this bastard –
Camila: Sooner or later someone will know.
Isadora (slightly annoyed): For him to leave everything he had to a bastard son nobody knew about is not logical. (slaps his had as he's about to bite his thumb claw) Listen up!
Isadora: I am trying to say that nobody is sure that he is his son. When will Daniel make out his will?
Isadora: Because I'm sure that the old man found out about someone or something that influenced him to change his will.
Isadora: Impossible? No, Alonso! You said that Camila told you that the last name he mentioned before he died was yours. What was his intention? Was he trying to warn her about you or flatter you to your [stupid] little wife? [halagar]
Isadora (standing): Me, too. But we won't trust anyone. (handles his lapels) You will ask Camila exactly what he said before he died. Then we will deal with the issue of the will. It is important that we know the entire law on this.
Isadora: We need to know all the details about how he came to this division.
Camila: Thanks, but don't say things you don't feel.
Camila: Because I know you. And I'm sure you called me instead of Mother to ask if I can get her to revoke your punishment for not coming to my wedding. Am I right?
Camila: No, I'm not. I know you, but anyway, I can't imagine you feeling so bad you didn't come to my wedding.
Camila: Ya, this is neither the time nor the place to talk about this. I'll tell Mother you called. (pushes the end-call button, and continues walking)
Camila (bumping into Viviana): I'm sorry, I'm sorry. (picks up her dropped phone) I was distracted.
Camila: She's my little girl. Her name is Maja.
Dionisio (standing still, arms crossed. We are surprised he has a reflection in the mirror behind him): Yes, yes. It's very strange that this happened just now.
Isadora (seated on sofa near Dionisio): And it's a crime that he apologised to Camila before he died. That he did it to protect her and she should trust nobody and that he felt guilty he did it.
Dionisio: He did what?
Dionisio: I have the impression he changed his will precisely to protect Camila from you. (Alonso starts biting his claws again)
Isadora: I think the same thing. But that would mean that someone told him our plans on the wedding day or the day he died.
Dionisio: Someone must have told him something. That's the only logical explanation.
Dionisio: Could be. We can no longer regret taking precautions.
Isadora: Good. What are we going to do?
Isadora: Go lie down on my bed. (he exits)
Dionisio: We can't listen to your son.
Isadora: Of course not. I can't wait until this guy gets here; someone could be spying on us.
Dionisio: Me neither.
Isadora: What do you propose? (They exchange sly expressions)
Dionisio: Completely. Only they can or would be interested. [interarse] We need to protect our plans.he
Dionisio: That is as it will be. (chuckles evilly and kisses her hand) I will take charge of eliminating this problem. Be sure that we will no longer have a problem of the bastard, Daniel Diaz Acosta.

I am still not really into this TN. The relationship between Camila and Alonso seems so absurd. I have a large collection of beanies, but none of them is up to the task of making this relationship believable.
It's interesting. I've seen a number of the cast members in other telenovelas, and on the whole, they looked a lot better a few years ago. I'm thinking especially of Cesar Evora, who has put on too much weight, but even Silvia Navarro looks somehow washed out, though I suppose that the role calls for that right now. And I caught a glimpse of Rene Strickler in one of the promos, and I almost didn't recognize him. However, Leticia Calderon looks better than ever. BTW, I loved your comment about her as Mama Dragon and that Alonso had better realize that komodo dragons are capable of eating their own young.
One good thing about this TN: the plot is really moving along. No drawn-out illness for Don Daniel, and a would-be assassin is waiting in the wings for Lil Daniel.
Oh, one more thing--who is Viviana (the woman Camila bumps into near the end of tonight's episode)?
Cesar Evora and Leticia Calderon are perfect in their roles. And to me CE's extra weight adds to his screen presence and makes him even more intimidating and dangerous.
There is a very disturbing, unsettling undertone to this TN, and the weird music seems to contradict the serious, even tragic events. Or maybe I'm watching this TN too late at night.
I've had a new thought about the relationship between Daniel (CdlF) and Camila: maybe Camila's father and Don Daniel were not blood relatives, perhaps one was adopted.
Also, you noted the Quarter Moon. Do you know if this TN is tracking time by the phases of the moon (as in LQNPA)? Since Daniel has a year to claim his inheritance, this may be a way of knowing how far along we are in the story.
Anya
His present look does suit this character, though.
Viviana will become Camila's friend, according to Wikipedia.
Anon, I am not sure that the moon phases were tracking actual time in LQNPA; we rarely saw less than a full moon there. I'm hoping that the correct moon phases are shown for this purpose in this one, which is why I note them and will encourage others to do so.
As to how we find out that Camila and Daniel are not related, I'm currently agreeing with the Padre; he's the child of a reconciliation and was named Daniel because his mother loved Don Daniel. I ended up with a middle name that was the name of my father's last girlfriend before he met my mother, a fact she didn't know until I was three years old. That did not go down well.
Anon207, I am trying to figure out why Miriam would have inherited all or mostly everything of her parents'; perhaps they didn't approve of Abraham becoming a cop? Her inheritance could have included the apartment but I think it is mostly liquid assets. Her desire to stay in Chile is likely fueled by her pregnancy and need to be near the familiar. Which would include her brother (her only relative) and her friends.
Things sure are progressing, which is ok with me. My only problem with this TN is going to be Alonso...just horrid casting. It is so unbelievable that Cam would have even fallen for this guy and he's such a whiny wuss. At least they could have found an actor that had a more suave, dastardly way about him.
I also agree with the Padre and your thinking UA, Daniel isn't related to Don A, but knowing Alonso was the snake he looked like, he might know Danial to be a good egg and left things to him. (Another secret to unbury).
Still hanging in with this one though it's tough to follow being on later. As long as this doesn't become the Alonso show I'll be all right I think.
As to the casting of this actor, I think they were looking for someone who would look easily dominated by women, particularly an unscrupulous mother. He is also the skinniest actor I've ever seen in any of Televisa's productions.
My lack of language skills makes it hard for me to follow who the characters are in a new story. But, you crystallilzed everything perfectly. "[By the gods, Camila, why are you not cringing?]" had me nodding in vigorous agreement.
ITA with Anon in that "There is a very disturbing, unsettling undertone to this TN". I'm not really feeling SN (perhaps it's the fact her character married Alonso, who is without any sort of emotional or pysical appeal whatsoever...truly a "whiny wuss" as daisy noted. But, I love Cesar and Leticia - what an inspired, perfect pairing.
We have been shown what's "waiting in the wings for Lil Daniel" as Juanita noted. Not looking forward to that gruesome event.
Thanks again UA!
Diana
From yesterday, I agree with those who praised the Miriam/Daniel pairing. They are a sweet and loving couple, tossed around by conditions (good and bad) beyond their control.
The actor who plays Alonso was in Alma de hiero and Para volver a amar, looking skinny and very scruffy, in both cases a real working-class, working character. He had the perfect look for the role. He was paired with Angela Boyer in Alma de hiero! It's strange to see him cleaned up, though not an attractive match for Camila. On the other hand, she's been in a remote location, few options, and hurt by prior love and luck. What bad, bad husband material he has turned out to be!
Glad to see Maja helping Camila make friends with Daniela from Destilando. So funny to me how we associate actors with a particular role.
I have really enjoyed the first two episodes, but I have a preference for more subtle villains. These two, so masterfully played by Leticia and Cesar, are already out there, plotting murders, etc. What havoc they will wreak by the end. Noooo ambiguity there.
The reading of Don Daniel's will surprised me in one big way--Li'l Daniel, as the protagonist, deliberately isn't being positioned as someone other characters will like. In-show, he's the bastard son who either (a) is taking what is rightfully Camila's inheritance; (b) is the unexpected wrench in the Axis of Evil's plans for stealing Don Daniel's estate; and, if my promo-fu is right (which is both a knock on Uni for giving away far too much and the continuing recognition of the anvil hanging over Miriam's head), he just might be (c) framed for the inevitable death of his wife. What is this, La fuerza del destino? (Considering Olivia Bucio's resemblance to Lucero Lander, except that Augustina seems a bit closer to a sane, or perhaps simply saner, version of Lucrecia Curiel...)
That said, like Juanita I'm not quite on board with this one yet--though it's still early enough that I'm keeping an open mind. Part of it is my very limited exposure beforehand to Cristian de la Fuente and Silvia Navarro; they're doing fine, but not grabbing me. It's fairly low-key, which works in its favor--and damn if Flavio Medina's borderline uncanny channeling of Ariel Lopez Padilla (circa Pecados ajenos, I'm thinking, just without the alcoholism) isn't nearly as distracting as Miriam's anvil.
The drinking game as it stands now requires sips whenever
1. Large CGI block letters are used to identify a location;
2. a montage of running bulls appears onscreen (excepting the opening credits);
3. Alonso bites one of his claws (fingernails).
4. When someone says "bastardo."
Don't you just love prejudice about something beyond the target's control?
There's an interesting irony in all this. Alonso wears business suits and bites his nails, whereas Rogelio in LQNPA wore black shirts, charro shirts, and had manicured nails. Yes, I noticed that.
Camila would you please shut up so Tio Daniel can do some splanin'. Somebody needs to come up with an App that quickly allows the Jordan crosser to select his/her final message. Maybe TC for telenovela confesions or TS for telenovela shortner.
Funny how all the characters seem to know the last words of Tio Daniel but all I could understand was duh duh duh and Camila relentless yacking. How that translated to A lon So is beyond me.
Don't know how the writers are going to keep up this pace.
UA: okay, yeah, I'll allow "bastardo." Between that and the bulls people will be blitzed before they're two-thirds through an episode.
"There's an interesting irony in all this. Alonso wears business suits and bites his nails, whereas Rogelio in LQNPA wore black shirts, charro shirts, and had manicured nails. Yes, I noticed that."
True, but to be fair Rogelio Montero was far more together than Alonso Lazcano is. You can't wield a riding crop if your nails are messed up. :) We can probably blame a huge chunk of this on mama Isadora, though...
I wonder whether she killed her husband for his money back in the day. We'll see if Alonso ever mentions him. If he doesn't that will be a huge clue.
As for his lack of proper male beauty, I recall my own mother trying to convince me that men's looks are of no importance and that their value is in their bank accounts. The mothers of my friends would speak of "character." Most of us were taught that we should not look for handsome men. Maybe Augustina tried that one on Camila.
And Isadora turning out to have killed her husband (which no doubt Alonso won't know until much later) wouldn't be that big a deal, at least for me. It worked in Eva Luna, after all. And similarly to how I can't stop seeing Flavio Medina channeling Ariel Lopez Padilla I can't help waiting for Leticia Calderon to go all Mujeres Asesinas on suckers. Which probably means I need to watch more novelas, or at least different ones. :D
I also like the choice of who is playing Alonso. (Doesn't he look like Mr. Bean?) He is so smarmy that it makes us despise him, which we are supposed to. Camila may have married him because she thought that she would never love someone again like she loved what's his name(don't even remember) and thought that at least Alonso cares about her and she was lonely.
I think that with the padre looking at the pictures and thinking that Daniel isn't Daniel Senior's son that it will end up being the case.
Camila and Daniel couldn't end up together otherwise.
AlonsNo is definitely a "whipped", weak man. I can't call him a puppy, it would be a slam to all puppies in viewerville.
After this latest episode, I see some underlying strength and stones in Camila's character. Her initial joy with Luis, cut short by the accident, left her grieving and feeling responsible for his death. Three years later, she is still wounded and the Dragon has capitalized on this wounded weakness. AlonsNo is totally doing her bidding and it is very clear from the confab of Dragon/Diablo he is dispensable and could even be seen as "culpable" if their plans fail. No spoiler, just an opinion. As previously stated: Komodo Dragons have been known to eat their young.
During the reading of the testamento, he was so transparent. Mommie will have to keep him in check.
Supporting characters Natalia, Vivian, etc. look to me like a support team for Camila.
As for Miriam, given what we already know, I suspect the anvil waits for thee.
SFChicabonita
They're sort of cute when they hatch, but think of what they can grow into if not eaten by adult ones.
I like what Don Daniel did for Camila. He left that ranch to his "bastardo", hate that word, but he protected her from Alonso, without her knowing, although the evil triumverant has already figured that out. Alonso so gave himself away with his outburst. I hope Daniel, if he makes it to Mexico, will figure out what is up with them.
I had to laugh at Ximena last night. Now that her Mom, Augusta is on an allowance, I wonder if she will continue to support Ximena? I think she called Camila cause she thought she inherited all kinds of money and was going to hit her up for some. Does Ximena even work?
Viviana was very nice (I too remember her from Destilando Amor as Daniela).
In the hospital scene, Augustina's hair looked like it was going to fly away. Totally realistic that in her misery over Don Daniel’s illness that she would be disheveled. She's got her faults, but I do think she wants what's best for Camila. After having a second husband who ran through her dough though, she's too focused on money.
Alonso must've oozed charm at some point (off screen) to get Camila to marry him even though she knew she didn't love him, but now she knows he's not only psycho but also just not a nice person. She doesn't even want to share a meal with him much less sleep with him. Wondering how Alonso will get her to put up with him.
On Cesar’s weight, the actor was so funny in an interview with Don Francisco after TdA. Cesar said the producers wanted a "galán" but got a "gallon." I like the suave evil that he's bringing to this.
I watched this ep and the Tues' last night. I haven't read the recap/comments for Tues ep, so forgive me if anything I comment on here has already been discussed.
I find Sylvia's character very blah. I liked her so much better in MEPS and CME.
I also find it hard to believe that Camila would find Alonso attractive, but I think the actor is doing a great job of being creepy, smarmy.
I have a hard time believing the actor playing Isadora is Alonso's mother--she looks too young.
I got the impression that Cam is not related to Daniel by blood, since her uncle married into the family.
If Ximena turns out to be more villainous than she is now, I think she might be the first TN villainess that I like. Now she's just a brat--usually they turn me off too but for some reason I enjoy watching her.
Alonso reminds me of Tony Randall and Isadora reminds me of a Mitzi Gaynor and Shirley Jones--depending on what facial feature I concentrate on. Very pretty woman.
Robey
Also, even at the wedding, Cam looked like she thought she was making a mistake
Robey
On one final note....UA did I see somewhere that you make Rosarys? I'm very much interested.
Count me in with Cathyx, Daniel 'namesake' is not Camilla's cousin but a gesture of affection along the lines of 'love never dies'. I like the Director's courage in selecting this actor of diminished appearance to portray a repulsive character.
I am SO RELIEVed that Camilla is being portrayed as having a 'backbone' and a brain in her head! Thank goodness! It's hard for me to wish a heroine luck in love when I'm wishing she'd become a woman first.
Robey
One other character I am not liking is Miriam. She seems a spoilt thing to me. I suspect that the plan about to be hatched at Daniel by the gruesome twosome and their slimy leech sidekick will backfire onto Miriam.
Cindy
I do like this TN but I need to get to bed early.
Niecie, I thought I read somewhere that Mejia originally wanted Cesar to be Victoria Ruffo's husband in TdA; it's like there's a law at Televisa that when the two of them are in a novela together they have to be married to each other. What's interesting is that Osvaldo Rios was her great love in Abrazame Muy Fuerte while Cesar was the villainous husband.
Robey, I don't know how old Flavio Medina is and Leticia Calderon may be too young to actually be his mother. That's very common, though. In the aforementioned novela Cesar Evora's villain was the biological father of two young men played by actors who were only 15 and 8 years younger than he.
Bonney churros, I agree with you on what is the probable (non) relationship. I think that Agatha wanted Don Daniel to be her son's father.
The opera clip was one of my favourite moments of that production. If your local PBS station ever shows it again, watch. The tenor is gorgeous as well as talented.
Cindy, I think Miriam is probably feeling a little afraid at the prospect of leaving what she knows and the pregnancy intensifies that.
Dona Felipa, the photos of some of my rosaries are here. Photos 26-31. They're not yet on my website but I will charge $100 for each; they are strung and knotted by hand on silk cord. There is also a purple jade one that I haven't photographed yet.
Karen, et al: Glad everyone agrees on the komodo dragon comparison.
I don't have a weekend discussion thread ready for tomorrow because I will be away overnight on Saturday; I will need to work on Monday's episode tomorrow. I now realize that I shouldn't have posted one last week with a Friday finale.
Weekend after next we will have a discussion about the novela characters and situations we would create based on the cliches we want to kill or change. Think about these till then.
I know that there are some character actors from classic films, for example, who always played the mother/father, etc. when they actually weren't that much older--or even younger than their offspring. etc. The prob I have with Isa/Al is that she too young. I could buy it if she didn't look so young.
Robey
Ibarramedia
Well, "The Tell-Tale Heart is heard along with some horror-film music in a minor key"--excellent pickup! I didn't catch that!
Thought the same thing:
"Camila, why are you not cringing?"
Liked these:
Camila, her family (human and otherwise)
Alonso starts biting his claws
Mama Dragon
Thanks!!
Haven't posted in a while, these new captchas are brutal...
