Amor Bravío #31 (Uni 26) Mon 9/24/12

Capitulo 31: Jealousy and the Devil's Work Are Never Done

Lo del pasado

Camila and Augustina take their leave of Amanda and exit the inn; Hissadora hides from them and Andres as he pulls away from the curb.

Lo de nuevo

Road to La Malquerida:   Camila tells her mother she is going to see about getting a specialist for the padre. Andres listens to this conversation as Augustina and Camila speculate on what the good padre came to tell her about. Augustina is incredulous that anyone would harm Padre Baldomero. Andres reminds Camila about the vaccine for the cattle and she tells him to drive first to the supplier.

Outside Hostal Amanda:   To the sound of sinister music Hissadora – who will take the longest and coldest shower she can stand after taking off her very red peasant disguise – meets with Julian, El Diablo's hit man. After establishing his identity he comments on having competition in the execution of his master's commands. Hissadora says that El Diablo has to learn to trust her. She tells him they have to get into the guest area, but that it will have to wait a little while. She looks around them as though she were afraid of them being seen together.

El Diablo's Study:   The sinister music continues as Alonssso and El Diablo talk. While Alonssso picks at his claws [¡Salud!] and El Diablo plays with a letter opener (or is it a stiletto?) they discuss the fact that somebody has to find Daniel Diaz Acosta – dead or alive. Alonssso – either from fear or guilt – comments that the priest seemed to know. El Diablo impatiently says that this would not be the first or the last time a priest has lied. Alonssso tells him he will go back and talk to Camila and that he will keep him informed. Just before he opens the door El Diablo asks him whether he has the three million pesos that was intended to pay Leoncio. He tells him that he put it in his mother's account. Guess what, Komodo Jr? El Diablo might need that money to pay off the “accionistas” who are imposing the deadline for the handing over of La Malquerida. Alonssso tells him that the money was to be paid to Leoncio. However, El Diablo reminds him that Leoncio didn't finish the job so he better not have paid out the money. Alonssso looks as though he's about to upchuck.

Street:   Camila is carrying two bags out to the car, not allowing Andres to help. However, when Andres takes them from her to put them in the boot of the car their hands touch, Don Vicente sings, and we know that hormones are manifesting themselves.

Becerra's Office:   He calls in his secretary (Margarita) and shows her a document he just received from Chilean authorities. It states that their initial report was wrong and the body they found was not that of Daniel Diaz Acosta. They will contact him when they have more information.

Albarrán Dining Room:   Pablo enters, upset that Iago is getting involved in his romantic affairs. He doesn't want their parents to know anything. Mariano understands and will stick up for him, but reminds him that their parents will be returning from Spain in a few days and they will have to deal with it then.

Albarrán Estate (outside):   As they walk toward the porch, Iago and Bratgirl talk vaguely about her plan to break up Pablo's romance because his parents would disapprove. Upon arrival they quickly clam up at the sight of Mariano and Pablo who are apparently discussing a plaque honoring Don Daniel Monterde. The presentation is to be a big event involving the selection of bulls for a corrida and Luzma is to accompany Pablo publicly as his fiance. Pablo apologises to Iago for his earlier outburst. They do the man-hug to a flamenco music leitmotif and Bratgirl looks like someone just took away her chupeta. Que lastima... not.

Kitchen (La Malquerida):   Luzma comes home from school explaining she scored a 9 on her Spanish exam. Leoncio asks why the grade wasn't higher and she explains it was a hard exam, but she has one of the highest grades in school. He asks about her upcoming 18th birthday. He plans to give her something special because although she doesn't believe it [neither do we] he loves her like the daughter he never had. Over the pensive music she asks why he never married and had children of his own. He hesitates then says that it's because all women are lying ingrates who don't appreciate what little men do for them. He exits without further words and Piedad asks her daughter why she asks such things. “If your uncle is annoyed he might not give you your birthday surprise.” [We rather think Luzma would be better off for that.]

Street:   Luzma's best friend and Valentino talk about Luzma marrying Pablo and whether Padre Baldomero will recover in time to perform the ceremony. He wants Luzma for himself. More teen angst we can do without.

Outside Hostal Amanda:  Hissadora and Julian agree that it is time to move. He closes his jacket and goes to the side of the building. She watches him.

Padre Badomero's Room:   Amanda sits at his bedside, attempting to communicate with him. She is worried about Daniel and is sure that someone knows he is there and is looking to take away his inheritance. He is having difficulty talking but it is also obvious to Amanda that he understands her, so she decides to ask questions he can react to with a si or no reponse. She asks him whether what happened to him was an accident. He manages to say “no.”. She realizes that Daniel was right. She then asks whether it was Alonssso who tried to kill him. He says not. She asks if it was someone from the ranch. She will start naming the workers to find out whom Alonssso gave the orders to, but first goes out to see Daniel, whom she thinks just got back.

Road to La Malquerida:   Augustina realizes that they didn't stop to see Padre Baldomero. She is upset and Camila says they could go to see him tomorrow as they are now closer to the ranch than to town. Augustina is not happy with this; she has a rosary she bought in the Vatican she wanted to give to him. It has miraculous powers because it was blessed by Pope John Paul II [Considering that this is a Televisa production, that could actually be fact rather than fancy]. She desperately wants to help the Padre so Camila tells Andres to do a U-turn and take them back to town. He is not unhappy to do so.

Hostal Amanda, Front Desk:    Julian is standing there as Amanda enters. He tells her he is looking for accommodations. She shows him the sheet quoting the rates, explaining that it includes breakfast, hot water, and clean towels. He asks if he can see the rooms and she leads the way. To the sound of sinister music, Hissadora slithers in, checking that no one is there. She looks at the guest book on the desk, realizes that nothing records what room belongs to the padre, and slams it shut, baring her fangs as she wonders which room it is. Her fangs are so bright they illuminate her eye shadow.

Ximena's Apartment:    She enters in typical ramerawear, puts down her purse and sits. Only to have to answer the cell phone. It's Amelia, her newly unemployed friend from the department store informing her that they have been caught. If it had not been for a friend who works at the store she would have been arrested then and there. She is on her way to Ximena's to hide out. Ximena tells her no way, but her friend tells her she can't take advantage of anyone else. However, “you are my accomplice.” There is a video showing their activities and both of them are going down. At first Ximena refuses to believe this, but her former friend is adamant. If she goes to jail for this she won't be going alone. She will be at her place in thirty minutes. She ends the call. A panicked Ximena freezes for a few seconds to the high-pitched violins, then pulls her suitcases from the closet and starts packing.

Hostal Amanda, Upstairs:    To the sound of sinister lower strings and minor key high vibratos, Hissadora looks around the corridor, hides from an exiting couple, then enters the padre's room. The notes get darker as she closes the door, faces the padre, and takes the shawl down from her head. Grinning evilly as she slithers onto the edge of the bed and leans in saying how it would please her if he could talk and she could force him to tell her where she can find the stupid Daniel Diaz Acosta. His expression eloquently shows that he knows her intentions. However, she says it would be better if he commends himself to his saints instead. Picking up the pillow to his right she places it over his face. She failed to notice that in doing so she knocked over a bottle of pills and a few pills have escaped from the bottle. She presses down vigorously; his left hand tenses, then relaxes. There is no sound, not even that of her having an orgasm at the completion of this crime. We merely see her silver claws as she releases the pillow, and the satisfied expression on her face. She looks at the crucifix on the wall above the bed and shrugs with a smirk as though she were sharing a joke with El Señor. [Were they here what Dante and Milton could write about her...]

Hostal Amanda, Front Desk:   Amanda leads Julian down the stairs, asking whether he will take a room. She apologises for being in a hurry but she is caring for an invalid. He tells her he will have to call his family. She gives him a calling card and he exits. Before she can leave the room Camila and Augustina arrive with the rosary. Amanda tells Camila to go right up and she does. The Victorian-style phone rings and she answers. We note that the guest book had been opened when she left the room earlier and now it is closed, something we wonder whether she notices.

Outside Hostal Amanda:  While Andres waits by the car, Julian's cell phone rings. El Diablo is checking up on his minions. He tells the Lord of Darkness that he thinks Hissadora is up there. El Diablo tells him to leave the scene so he won't be seen by anyone else.

Padre Baldomero's Room:  Hissadora checks and smiles as she sees that the good padre is no longer breathing. She kneels briefly to retrieve the prescription bottle, but we don't see how many pills she retrieves. She obviously hears someone and ducks out of sight. Camila enters and goes immediately to the bedside. While she is talking to Padre Baldomero Hissadora escapes quietly out the same door but with a musical flourish only heard by the flies on the wall.

Ximena's Apartment:    Somewhere along the way she took enough time to change into some more respectable clothing.  She's multitasking by finishing a phone call while she finishes packing. Finally she ends the call and drags the suitcases out, leaving a purse and scarf hanging on the wall.

Hostal Amanda, Various locations: The phone rings again, conveniently interrupting Amanda and preventing her from going upstairs. She answers. Camila puts the rosary in his right hand. She senses something wrong, then feels the carotid artery area and realizes there is no pulse. She calls for her mother. Andres enters and follows the three women up the stairs. At the same moment Hissadora escapes through another door and is seen from behind by a neighbor as she pulls the shawl over her hair and turns the corner. Amanda, Augustina, and Andres enter Padre Baldomero's room and Camila tells them that he is dead. All stare in shock.

La Malquerida:  More teen angst as Valentino catches Luzma on her way out and tells her he loves her more than Pablo could. He begs her not to marry him and goes on about how he has hidden their relationship while he wouldn't. And yadda yadda yadda she gives him his walking papers.

Padre Baldomero's Room:   The women begin to cry, still incredulous. Andres notices two pills lying on the floor near the bed. Amanda sinks onto the side of the bed, folding the padre's hands. Camila steps out and Andres follows her into the corridor. She explains she was close to the padre, he was a great man. He agrees, then catches himself saying that so many people have said so.

Alonssso's Study:  The phone rings. Natalia answers and gets the tragic news from Camila.

Restaurant:   Could Hissadora K. Dragon be getting even more careless? She enters in her bright red peasant garb and asks for a whiskey. The waiter doesn't move fast enough and she yells “Rapido!” as she removes the shawl from her head. Komodo Jr is there after his meeting with the Lord of Darkness, standing near the next table where a middle-aged woman in grey and a young man are seated; the young gentleman is facing Hissadora. Alonsso recognizes her voice.

Alonso: Mama? What are you doing here? (goes to her table and sits) Why are you dressed like that? Where have you been?
Isadora: I was weary of doing things halfway. I took care of something that was worrying us. (leans in a little closer and whispers) The priest is dead. (music does an emphatic flourish, Alonso looks mildly shocked, waiter returns with her drink and a small plate of minced carrion on toast, which he places in front of her. Her manner is curt and slightly abrupt) Thank you, thank you, thanks. (waiter exits)
Alonso (sotto voce): But how could you do this? In the broad light of day? What is it with you?
Isadora: We could not wait any longer. It was dangerous if he continued to live; they were on the verge of finding me out. (takes a drink) Camila and Augustina had just arrived. I barely got out without someone seeing me.
Alonso: That's precisely why I didn't want you to dirty your hands, Mama. The priest is a rock removed from the road (looks behind him, afraid of who might enter) but there can be nothing in your behavior or Dionisio's to cause suspicion that you killed him. (increasingly agitated) This is too much. What was going through your head? What were you thinking?
Isadora: Taking risks is the difference between success and failure. (music emphasizes that last word) To get such things done I can't trust anyone.
Alonso: Dionisio knows?
Isadora: Yes. He was told. Now there is only to find Daniel Diaz Acosta and eliminate him forever from our lives. (takes a drink) How is that going?

Alonssso bites his claws again.  [¡Salud!]

Kitchen:    Piedad continues to cook. Natalia enters, crying, and tells her about Padre Baldomero is dead. As both women begin to cry, Leoncio enters. He is somewhat subdued at the news, crossing himself perfunctorily. He tries to embrace Natalia from behind, but she escapes and exits the room, saying she has to tell the others. Piedad looks at him asking “Have you no respect for anything?” His response – predictably – is an emotionless “no.”

Monterrey Airport:   Ximena is yelling at a clerk because they will not allow her to board the plane. She had made her reservation over the internet. The clerk calmly tells her that the airport is shut down because of a blackout, but they expect the flights to resume by morning. The nearby hotel is providing free food in the interim. Before Ximena has her next hissy fit her cell rings. Amelia had arrived at her apartment to find it unoccupied. Ximena sarcastically informs her that she will not be back for some time. She tells her she's on her own and that she owes her nothing because she collected good ill-gotten gains from her. Amelia tells her she will be sorry. Ximena tells her “Hasta nunca” and ends the call, smirking. She pauses for a second and turns back to the airline clerk. Not sure what she said, but possibly that she's changed her mind and will take the voucher for the free meal.

Night. La full moon is distant and surrounded by clouds, as in a Dracula movie. We almost expect to see bats flying in front of it.  [Was this missing?  I blinked and missed the moment.]

Hostal Amanda:    The plain but polished wooden coffin is seen surrounded by mourners in black. Someone enters with a large white floral wreath. Alonssso enters with a coffee mug in hand, quietly acknowledging someone. We notice Hissadora and El Diablo in the background, hypocritically dressed in black. Amanda stares at Alonssso briefly. Andres is carrying a tray of coffee for the mourners. The two of them exchange a few words as Alonssso approaches Camila, who stands next to her mother. He says something about the padre's death being a pity, but Camila cuts him off, saying that she doesn't want him anywhere near her. She steps away, to El Diablo's annoyance – not with her but with Komodo Jr who starts to say something about how is he going to stay married to a woman who doesn't want him near her, but El Diablo sensibly bites his forked tongue and does not reply.

Street:  Viviana and Rafael, also clad in black, appear to be en route to the funeral as they talk about Camila. He says that despite her character she seems to need someone to watch over her.  Viviana sort of agrees, saying doesn't every woman. Rafael appears hopeful then compares Camila to Viviana whom he sees as strong and self-sufficient and appears to need nobody. However he does have the sense that she is hiding something. She comments that a good writer is also a good observer and tells him he's right. However, she doesn't want to talk about it.

Hostal Amanda: Camila sits on a step outside. Andres comes out to join her.

Andres:    Are you alright, Señora?
Camila:    No. Do you think it's normal to be so sad? My uncle said that instead of being sad we should be grateful to have had the person we loved. (or something to this effect; the music starts to interfere here)
Andres:    Don Daniel was right, but it is sad to lose someone you love.
Camila:    You've been sad, too.
Andres:    Yes. In moments like this I feel angry at the loss.
Camila (getting up and wiping her eyes):    It's happened to me more than once.

For a moment it appears that Andres is about to embrace her, but Viviana and Rafael enter.

Viviana:    Camila. (the two women embrace briefly)
Camila:    Thanks for coming.
Rafael:   Camila, we know how much the padre meant to you and we wanted to be here with you.

He embraces her. Andres turns away, unable to watch. Viviana notices this.

Albarrán Parlour:  Bratgirl – who is in a tight white and grey knit dress with a short skirt – sits on the sofa reading a magazine as the three brothers enter. All are respectably dressed in black. Mariano tells her that they're going into town for Padre Baldomero's funeral. Immaturely she comments that she never heard of anyone attending the funeral of a priest.

Mariano:   Ileana, let's go.
Ileana:   Where are you going?
Mariano:    Into town. Padre Baldomero has died and we're going to the funeral.
Ileana: I've never heard of anyone going to a priest's funeral. Was he a friend of yours or what?
Pablo:    He was the town's parish priest. Everyone knew him.
Iago:   Let's go.
Ranch Hand's Voice:    Boss! Boss!
Mariano (turning around):    What is happening?
Ranch Hand (entering):    Boss, the pinto has diarrhea.
Mariano:   Since when?
Ranch Hand:    Briefly, this morning, but I thought it was over.
Mariano:   We better make sure this isn't anything worse; it could be tuberculosis. (exits with him.)
Iago (to Pablo):   You take Ileana into town. If this is what I think I'd better not go. (exits)
Ileana:   If you want I'll go with you. I don't have funeral clothes, but –
Pablo:    No, no; don't worry. I'll go alone. See you later. (exits.)

So Bratgirl pouts again.

Hostal Amanda:   Augustina, with Becerra at her side, suggests they say the rosary. She crosses herself and everyone follows suit. Except for Hissadora and Leoncio, who are introduced by the same sinister music from the murder scene, which we flash back to. She is the only seated person out of sight of the others and he is the only person not clad in black. We wonder whether he sleeps in those clothes. He leans in to say something and she can smell the alcohol on his breath. We did not know that komodo dragons dislike the odor of this favored human poison. He asks if he could have a shot of tequila in the padre's honor and she tells him that to be seen drinking would be imprudent. Natalia excuses herself to Andres to check on something in the kitchen. Alonssso bites his claws [¡Salud!] as El Diablo takes his particular pleasure in casually pointing out that Camila's distaste for him is because she is interested in someone else. Alonssso futilely tells him to shut up.  It is interesting that the camera has the handsome Rudolfo at center. El Diablo exits quietly as Alonssso approaches Mama Dragon on her throne, kneeling next to her. The high-pitched three-note suspense leitmotif begins.

Isadora (indicating Leoncio, who is in the background):   It's better that you order Leoncio to leave. He's had too much to drink before getting here.
Alonso (looking at Leoncio quickly):    Don't worry; I'll order him now to go back to the ranch, but I have to tell you not to give him any more money. We may need it.
Isadora:    But if he doesn't get his money who knows what he might be capable of?
Alonso:    Calm down; don't worry. Leave this in my hands. I'll explain later what happened.
Isadora (petting his face):  Very well.

Alonssso gets up and approaches Leoncio, who looked half unconscious. He gets his attention by calling him a drunk. Pablo enters and approaches the coffin. Luzma is on the other side of it and she smiles discreetly at him. Valentino doesn't like this but at least he is discreet about it. Not so Leoncio, who approaches and tells her they're leaving. She protests that they were to stay all night in prayer, but he isn't having it. Rather than permit a scene she departs, but not before quietly slipping something into Pablo's hand. [This cute young actor could grow up to resemble the late great Eduardo Palomo.]

Monterrey Airport:    Ximena is told that her flight was cancelled because of a problem at the destination airport. She is incredulous.

Dawn.  However, it is a grey one.

Cemetery:   The coffin is lowered into the grave to the accompaniment of sad piano music. The presiding priest sprinkles holy water over the grave as the camera pans through the mourners. Alonssso and Hissadora are in attendance with blank faces. Osvaldo Becerra approaches Camila with an apology that this is not the optimum time for this, but he has to see her soon about something important. He will be going out of town in a few days. She makes a non-committal response before he exits. Augustina becomes paranoid that he will say something negative about her diabolical novio. She tries to convince Camila to not believe anything he says about him. They exit. Valentino stands next to Luzma, which is noticed by Pablo. Amanda drops a flower into the grave and cries; Natalia is there to comfort her. Andres tambien. He picks up some earth and throws it into the grave saying that in the memory of his mother he will find out who killed him.

Avances

Temptation dos veces as Alonssso meets Ximena and Camila can't resist Andres/Daniel.

Note:    The naming of the inn – “Hostal Amanda” – is the opposite of the ranch name “La Malquerida”. The name Amanda means “worthy to be loved,” which is the reason that Gene Roddenberry chose that name for Spock's mother in Star Trek.

Comments:
Urban- thanks for this wonderful detailed recap. The poor Padre. I was really hoping Amanda would come back quickly, but Hissadora, great name by the way for that one, ended up killing him. I hope she burns in hell.

Poor Luzma didn't even get to mourn the Padre. I can't imagine what Leonicio would want to give to Luzma, it can't be good. I hope she elopes with Pablo as soon as she turns eighteen and gets away from that Leonicio.

The advances look really good. Ximena and Alonsso look like a good pair, two peas in a pod.

Fabulous job Urban. Isa really did look like she was having an orgasmic moment, both when she killed Padre and when she was remembering it. Poor Padre!

I hope the neighbor lady tells Amanda soon about the mysterious lady in red she saw exiting the b&b.

I have to say the three blonde brothers looked really good all together and all in black. Really, ILLiana should focus on the middle on. I think she'd have way more luck, although he seems really serious.

The preview does look intriguing. Ximena and Alonso. Not sure what she'll get out of it, but if it distracts him from Cami for a while (leaving her to have quality smooch time with Dan), then have at it!

Thanks for your recap UA. Your running commentary was great; my favorite was "More teen angst we can do without."

Mads - yes, Luzma needs to get as far away from her terrible tio as soon as possible. That stunt he tried to pull w/Natalia after saying all women are liars...once again this character can't die soon enough for me.

After calling him Mr. Nobody, Ximena is turned on by Alonso. I guess there is no accounting for taste.

Vivi - yes Bratgirl should look for Iago. All the boys seem to be very serious and perhaps when they find love, they'll loosen up a bit.

Cami & Daniel finally kiss!

You are such an excellent writer. I especially look forward to your recaps.

It is always so sad to watch the murder of the good people in these stories

Thank you very much for your efforts.

An excellent recap.
It was a sad story tonight. I too, was hoping that someone would walk in that snake. I love your character descriptions. You are a personification expert.

UA -- great recap and commentary.

I loved your description of Isadora as she did in poor Padre, followed by her carelessness at the restaurant. Leticia is such a good, versatile actress, definitely one whose range keeps expanding. She used to be on Hoy and struck me as very sweet! But she has the makings of an excellent good villain and great match for Dio and Alonso.

Yes, yes, Pablo does resemble the late great EP. He and his brothers are definitely a good looking group. It will be interesting to see what match-ups take place with those three.

AbFab title but not time to really read much - grrrrr! More later amiga!

Thanks, guys.

I take no credit for "Hissadora", which was coined last week by someone else. However, it suits her perfectly.

It blew my mind how she could lose sight of the fact that she would stick out like a sore thumb in the red peasant clothes with her platinum hair.

All I can say is GOOD GOOGLY MOOGLY Dan looks good in black!

Ivibora is going straight to hell for a) killing a priest and b) looking downright orgasmic about doing it.

Looks like Alonso's ED problem might be coming to an end with Ximena in the mix. I wonder if he's ever met Ximena or seen a picture of her.

Alonso mixing it up with Ximena will throw a wrench into Dio's and Issy's plans for the ranch. This will not end well.

Herminia looking for Ximena will not end well either.

LIP LOCK ALERT!

One more thing about Ximena yearning for Alonso: it might be a Carmina/Estefania thing (AdP)...let me take away my sister's man...

From the avances I don't think Alonssso ever saw a photo of Ximeana. She didn't come to the wedding; I wonder whether anyone sent her photos. I doubt Camila did, since she knew the marriage was a fracaso from the non-honeymoon. She's also not particularly close to Ximeana.

I doubt they've even seen each other since Camila and Augustina moved to La Malquerida three years and change ago.

We'll see if Alonssso's little problem comes to an end. My money is on "not."

Kelly, have you seen the Carlos Saura film of Bodas de Sangre? It's one of my favorites.

BTW, the title in the last post is live. I don't know why live links are no longer in blue.

Luvluvloving the writing and the fans too. Thank you Urban. Such juicy reading for my long train commutes. And the comments too!

Great job as always, UA. Muchas gracias. I loved a number of your comments, such as "Her fangs are so bright they illuminate her eye shadow." And yes, Hissssadora certainly did seem to be, um, enjoying herself as she was smothering the Padre.

Like you, I was surprised that Hissssadora would pick such a very striking disguise. Bright red?? Is she trying to channel the Devil? She doesn't need to wear red for that!

I think I've only seen Leticia Calderón in two TNs--ENDA and this one. In both she does a terrific job of playing a villain, though I think she was even scarier in ENDA. She rarely made the kinds of sloppy errors (the character's errors, not the actress's) that she does here. Also, IIRC, in ENDA she was the arch villain, rather than sharing the role with anyone like Dionisio. She really terrorized me in ENDA, whereas here she seems more amusing, though perhaps just as deadly. (That remains to be seen, however: the body count in ENDA was pretty high, whereas here so far she's only got one notch in her garter belt.)

Can't wait for tonight's episode--the avances looked quite promising.

Great recap, Urban Anthropologist. I always enjoy your work.

My favorite scene was Isadora looking up at the crucifix with that almost defiant expression.

Too bad none of the padre's supporters watched El Talismán. the nitwit daughter Lucrezia devised a perfectly workable way to communicate with the paralyzed Boss Hog... blink once for yes and twice for no.

I'm a bit confused. I thought that the certification of Daniel's death was a complete fabrication by Dionisio and his cohorts and that a copy was given to him by Agustina.

Did I miss something? How is it that he gets a notification from Chilean authorities that the body had been misidentified? I thought that no body had ever actually been identified nor had there been any actual contact with Chilean authorities.

Carlos

I'm confused by the whole Chilean plot line. There was a police accusation against Dandres, incarceration and manhunt. But there was never a trial or conviction!

Carlos and Bonney- The document that Bacerra handed his secretary was a copy of the faxed death certificate that Dio supposedly got from the authrorities in Chile. Bacerra wants his secretary to check with the Chilean authorities to get the real scoop. When she does, she will find that they never issued a death certificate and that what they have is a fake. Bacerra never got anything directly from the Chilean authorities. All the info about Dan's death and his wife's death have come via Dio and his "Chilean connections."

We have no idea what's going on in Chile right now. Bonney, you're right that Dan was never tried. But in LatAm that's not an impediment to being jailed indefinitely, and Abe was in NO hurry to get justice/a fair trial for Dan.

A number of things could be happening or not happening in Chile right now:
-The authorities might have just given up finding Dan since there is no longer a record of him in their system. Dan erased all his files. Why take on more work for themselves over one criminal who wasn't even convicted yet?
-Abe for sure hasn't given up, but may have to search on his own time and not officially.
-We never got confirmation that Miriam is dead. Abe only said this to Dan and Dio. We saw no death, no furneral, no mourners, no one telling Abe how sorry they were about her death, and Abe didn't mention it to Dante when he came back to Chile. Miriam may likely still be in a coma, about to give birth to Dan's baby.
-Dante is probably searching for his friend and trying to prove Abe wrong.
-Neither Abe or Dante would likely move to have Dan declared dead until they have real proof, so Dan is likely officially missing. And this is what Bacerra will find out when he investigates.

Thanks, Vivi. Your explanation of the Chilean situation and the supposed death certicate was really helpful. I pretty much remembered the same thing, but it was very useful to have it confirmed. My memory is almost never to be trusted these days. :-)

UA- I haven't seem that movie but I'll look it up.

In the meantime I'll just sit here and hope that Camila gets to see that lawyer asap to get over her own wedding. And since Ximena is probably only after Alonso since he's her sisters hubby, then the divorce serves 2 purposes: end the sham marriage and piss off Ximena. She's fun when she's mad!

I'm just glad someone saw that pill on the floor. The camera went there but I didn't see anyone react to it. But D'Andres probably should've said something before a maid cleans it up.

Kelly

Didn't watch last night--Castle season premiere--but my friend told me the padre was killed. This leaves the way open for my fav that I mentioned before, who is playing a priest. Was hoping he would just come into it as Padre B's helper not to replace him :(

On to read the recap and comments.

Robey

I wonder if they sell those red cloaks of invisibility in the local tienda? Who would have thought that the best way to not be recognized would be to wrap yourself in a bright red cloak on a hot day in Mexico!

Great recap, UA. Can't wait to watch the ep and I agree with you about Isa's outfit. I thought that when I first saw her in it. Let's plot a murder and wear the most noticable thing available.

I'm afraid Leo's "gift" to Luz is going to be raping her and, like Lumi in STuD, she will not feel good enough for Pablo.

What the hell was Isa doing looking at the register at Amanda's? Why would the padre be registered? He's a friend not a paying guest.

Vivi: Thanks so much for the Chilean situation breakdown. There's definitely a lot of plot/character interaction still to come from there.

First, wasn't my telenovio soooo handsome in black at the funeral? OMG!!

Second, great detailed job UA. You are wonderful at getting everything down.

Bercerra's secretary called him Licenciado. Don't they call lawyers that?

I'm worried that Julian will recognize Daniel. Surely they must meet up eventually with Dan working for Dion now.

The avances look hot and heavy. Finally some action on the Camila Dan front.

I thought that Isadora looked stunning in that red shawl and white print dress. She really is a beautiful woman.

I kept wanting Padre and Amanda to communicate 1 blink for yes, 2 blinks for no and get some answers answered.

Also, and I'm probably going to get tarred for this, but I thought that Alonso, in the avances, looked almost handsome when he was smiling at Ximena.

Cathyx- I noticed what nice eyes Alonso had last night when he was speaking to Isa in the restaurant. They actually have the same colored blue eyes.

Bacerra is a lawyer, but more like a notary. It's a bit different Mexico than here. He's not a trial lawyer or a divorce lawyer, but he does take care of legal matters and documents.

I just wanted to thank all of the recappers....it is so wonderful to have all of the details filled in (that I miss) due to caption problems and rudimentary Spanish skills. I am just loving this novela! Just by watching the avances, I could see the great chemistry between Camila and Andres/Daniel. I was really hoping Padre would survive this; I just hope someone investigates his cause of death. I am usually a lurker and do not comment, but I love this so much that I needed to thank everybody for their hard work...it is so greatly appreciated!! Linda K

Cathyx: Forgot about the whole Dan/Julian connection!

I'm a notary public and I know that, in CA at least, we can't use the Spanish words Notario Publico because it means something entirely different.

Welcome Linda K.

UA--It was a wonderful recap. Vivi--shame on you--but you are right dubbing it "orgasmic." We think she's already had a prior experience.

What on earth will Ximena see in Alonso, the K. Dragon, Jr.? Oh, money, prestige, a cool place to hide out, money, sex, bulls, bulls**t, ordering mama and servants around, rent-free, money, sex. Little does she know about the sex part. She dresses a little whore/vixen, but we haven't seen her in action yet. Be careful Daniel--you are just too good-looking.

So, El Diablo and Al are already rivals for Cami. Diablo is throwing the scent of the trail away from himself and onto poor Rafa and Mariano. He had such a smug look on his face as he walked away from Al. Camila is clueless to all the pheromones and musk in the air, but the one whose fragrance is getting to her is for the moment prohibido (he's the choffer, after all, and she's still married).

Has anyone noticed the profusion of names that start with "A" in this tn, starting with the title.

Amor Bravio
Augustina
Agatha
Amparo
Alonso
Amanda
Andres
Abraham (Daniel's BIL)

So repeating about Julian and Dan, Julian is the only one who has seen Dan. I'm sure he would remember him when he sees him. He either tells Dion in private and Dan's cover is blown, or in public and Dan knows his cover is blown. This will not end well.

UA - Thanks a bunch.

Maybe Julian decides to go rogue and blackmail Dan? If Dan can get his inheritance, he'd be worth much more than Dionisio.

If the previews are true, Ximena must think Alonso is loaded.

Alborada was another novela with too many "A" names. I don't get this at all.

Great point about what a close call that was that Julian didn't see Daniel in the street scene. Becerra needs to investigate this yesterday and talk to the Chilean officials in person.

CME was full of R names.

Robey

Robey--You would have fit right in at CME.

Niecie--Do we know if Diablo ever said why he wanted Daniel killed in Chile? Maybe Julian doesn't know why only that his boss wanted a job done. I don't think he's the type to ask too many questions.

Poor Dan didn't really recognize Julian for sure until he saw his neck tatoo. Julian ought to have known better. It would have been safer to have it coming out of his butt and just as scary.

Maybe we haven't seen the last of the padre. He'll make a dandy ghost and Leoncio seems immensely hauntable.

Carlos

Thanks so much for this very interesting recap. I love your style. I especially love the way you punctuate your point by adding the musical background. I am a beginning piano student so it never ceases to amaze me that you have the ability and skills to decifer the background music (as well as the Spanish).

Thanks, Foxy. I'm an opera fan and I have season tickets.

Many if not most composers of television music use it in drama the way Richard Wagner used it in opera: leitmotifs associated with characters, things, settings, moods, or types of actions. Love themes are the most obvious, but there are other typical pieces that come up in novelas. Most of the Televisa series have good music even when the writing is bad.

UrbanA: This was one of your best! So many great snarkisms! Also, I appreciate your info regarding Wagner and the use of leitmotifs--I am not necessarily a fan of opera, tho' I've been to a few and did enjoy them a great deal.

Here is a just a bit of the snarkfest that struck my funnybone:

"hormones are manifesting themselves"

"Bratgirl looks like someone just took away her chupeta. Que lastima... not"

"If your uncle is annoyed he might not give you your birthday surprise.” [We rather think Luzma would be better off for that."

"small plate of minced carrion on toast"

Keep it up, amiga!!

Riberajoe: Welcome back to the late night viewing hour! I got a chuckle out of your description of that "red cloak of invisibility" and thought yup, could anything be screaming louder than that shade of red?

======
Tablet jefa/Linda K: Welcome to our side of the street. Hope you'll continue to cross over often and visit with us some more! ; > ))

I had to do a double-take when I saw Dan show up on screen in that black shirt and that he'd nixed the silly tie for once. Hubba-hubba!!
==========
Karen: I can't wait for the lusting liplocks myself tonight!

The characters in this story are ripe for this kind of snarkasm, that much is certain. Thus far the evil ones are providing lots of inspiration.
