PABLO ESCOBAR, Viernes, Part 1

One of the hostages is released, a woman, found by the police in the trunk of a car in Medellín. She's unharmed. President Delacruz thinks this is a good sign. Dr. Bedoya (I think he's like the National Security Adviser, not the successor to the Minister of Justice or the Attorney General), hopes they'll all be home (including his son Carlos) by Christmas.

Marino is in the apartment of a white-haired lady, who says her son always calls at 3 o'clock. The phone rings, and it's a guy from the Model Prison named Peter. Marino tells him to eliminate the two guys wanted for the killing of Galán. At first the prisoner names the innocent ones, but Marino says no, the OTHER two guys. This job will pay well.

Juangi reads a press release from Pablo. We see how Pablo had dictated it to Peluche, who typed it on a little portable typewriter. It says we the Extraditables have already delivered one person, and we'll deliver the rest soon. All we want is peace. And we're also going to deliver money and infrastructure. Because we want peace so much, we're announcing our complete surrender (rendición).

Bedoya and the President meet with Lopera to discuss this. Lopera says in return for all this good will, the Extraditables want two things. First, that the police stop all surveillance on their family members. And second, a written decree that they won't be extradited. The President says as to the first, I can do that with a simple phone call. But the second, you know that's impossible. Bedoya pipes up. Tell them if they free my son, I'll personally intercede to make sure they don't get extradited.

And then Chili comes to interrupt the hostages' meal, they're ALL getting out! Well, not all. Carlos Bedoya has to remain. He's understandably upset.

Paty takes the kids outside to go somewhere. Emilio asks when will those “tombos”, a vulgar word for cops, sort of like our “pigs”, will leave. Little Daniela asks what that word means, and Paty explains it means policemen, but it's a bad word. All of sudden the cops leave (new orders), surprising the family members.

At the Model Prison, Peter has come to the showers with a knife to kill GK (Galán's Killer). But Baldy shows up, and Peter has to act as if he just wanted some soap. Baldy says he doesn't trust that guy. But GK says relax, we'll be out of here soon.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Part 2

The Ex-President, who is also acting on behalf of the cartel, I think, tells the press that 16 of the 17 hostages have been released. The Extraditables have also given up explosives, thousands of dollars, a helicopter, even some drug labs and equipment. This proves they're holding up their side of the bargain. Right wing Lucio, in his paramilitary garb, reads the headline “Extraditables surrender” and doesn't believe it for a minute, saying to himself, those fools (the government). By the way, his troops are called the ADC, maybe Armed Defenders of Colombia, or something like that (Democratic Alliance of Colombia?)

In the kitchen, Emilio says no more cops. Looks like they've stopped f*cking with us. Paty is appalled at the boy's language. But she gathers them up, they're going to pick up Abuela Enelia. We then see a long caravan of SUVs, as all the families arrive at Pablo's hidden camp. As Daniela hugs her Daddy, Pedro and Gonzalo meet THEIR wives (whom we've never seen before). Paty give Pablo a kiss. And it's party time, with firecrackers! It's Christmas eve, and an island sounding band, with bongos, accordion and singers is providing the entertainment. All the couples are dancing. Pedro tells his wife tonight we'll “desatrasamos”, which is a made up word. Atrasarse means to be stopped or delayed. So they're doing the opposite of that, moving forward! Enelia asks Peluche what's the real plan? Are you actually giving yourselves up? How can you trust the government? Peluche says let's not talk about that now, let's dance! Okay, says Enelia, but it's muddy, so I'm taking off my good shoes!

Gonzalo and his wife sneak away for a little nookie. Paty is glad Pablo has done this. He says sure, in two months max, we'll have it “resolved”. But you'll be in jail? Yeah, but a special kind of jail, near Medellín, and you can visit whenever you want. We worked all these years, now we'll be able to enjoy all our savings, get it? She's cautiously optimistic and hugs him.

At the stables, Carlos Bedoya isn't so festive, in fact he's walking in circles. Chili drops off a meager plate, says Merry Christmas, and leaves. Carlos thinks desperately, today's Christmas. My kids! Cut to his family, the kids playing quietly on the floor, Dr. Bedoya sitting morosely in the corner, refusing the offer of food from his sister, he's not hungry.

At the ADC camp, Lucio (brother of paramilitary Miguel) is making the rounds, wishing each and every soldier a happy season. But HE's not happy. He picks up the satellite phone, and calls Niki, the reporter. She's having Christmas with her family, takes the phone, asks who it is. Lucio yells into the phone. That doesn't matter, I'm giving you a message. Pablo Escobar, besides being a terrorist and narcotraficante, is an opportunist! He's doing all this to gain the good will of the people, but he's totally tricking the government. What, says Niki, the surrender? Right. Check out that Dr. Lopera, who's installed in the government palace. He's not just some diplomat, he's well known to Pablo Escobar. Check him out! He hangs up, leaving Niki stunned. Is this really a trick?

Time will tell.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 1

Miggy reiterates to Camilo and Gus that the dates don’t lie. Alma is his daughter. The file says that it was a natural birth, of about 38 to 40 weeks. Camilo can’t understand why a mother wouldn’t know. Gus says they might have lied to her. Miggy says he’s going after his daughter. La Niña Bonita enters, overhearing, and not happy.

Fabiola wants Laura to help her escape. Laura replies that she will because it’s her duty as a police officer.

The Reptile asks El Mesías what is his game. He says he’s not in the habit of showing his cards to anyone, much less a woman with a devil inside. She comes onto him again, saying she’s sure he likes them bad. He moves closer, faking her out, and says she has no idea what kind of woman he likes and walks out.

Willy and JM both say that Sam and Ángela cannot abandon their children.

NB reviews the file but says that EV would never have taken on someone else’s kid. Miggy says he felt something special when he held Alma. NB sneers at this. Miggy swears FF was never with anyone except him at the time of the conception. Afterwards, he's not so sure.

NB appears to yell at the doctor. Like all “other women” in telenovelas, she refuses to accept reality. The doctor says he can’t change official clinic documents.

Fabiola goes to confront EM. She wants to leave with Laura and Jessica tomorrow. She says she could be his worst nightmare. He roars with laughter. He says that, if she bothers him, he might throw her out, but the daughter of El Verdugo will stay.

Nico tells Willy that Sam is going to Colombia because he asked her to and not to be mad at her. The doctor comes to examine Nico, speaking English to him. When he hits Nico’s knee with the reflex hammer, it moves. He’s going to be released soon.

The LA to Colombia express has delivered Sam and Angie, wigs on, to the only bar in Colombia. Some sneaky looking guy eyes them.

The Reptile asks Ringo why EM got everything. Ringo says he doesn’t owe her any explanations. She says she could be the queen and take the empire far. She pushes Ringo on the bed and mounts him, saying they could be rulers together.

Gus and Camilo point guns at the doctor in his office. Miggy is seated inside waiting. [At this point the guy is probably wishing he’d become a vet.] Miggy points a gun at him, giving him one opportunity to tell the whole truth.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 2

NB is at the beauty salon, earbuds in place. El Mesías swaggers up behind her as only Miguel Varoni can swagger. He starts to massage her shoulders. She sees him and jumps up. “You’re alive!” And slaps him. She asks how he found her and how did he get out alive. He tells her he was saved by un buzo (a diver). She appeared from nowhere and saved him. She brought him to her house, dying. The grandmother saved him with traditional medicine. It took him months to walk and to decide what to do. He went looking for his wife and they said she was in love with Miguelito Valdez.

Miggy asks the doctor why he lied. After a flashback to promising loyalty to EV, he lies some more. He tells Miggy Fabiola was the one who begged him to say the baby was EV’s. He says money and power changes everyone. A daughter of El Verdugo is worth more than a daughter of Miguel Valdez. Miggy hits him in the face with a gun. Someone calls Gus and he appears astonished.

Sam calls Willy to ask about the children. Willy tells her Nico is ready to be released, but she can tell how angry he is. JM won’t even pick up when Ángela calls. The sneaky guy in the bar calls someone.

Ringo appears to understand that the Reptile is manipulating him, but he goes for it anyway.

EM accuses NB of putting another guy in his bed without even waiting to see his body. He calls her a bitch. Slap! She calls out a list of all the women he cheated on her with: flacas, gordas, chiquitas, bajitas, morenas, güeras. She says they were all the same. He tells her they were all good, pretty, with good hearts, and the only bad woman in his life was NB. Slap! This time he hits the hairdresser, saying he’ll hit him for each time she hit him. He asks how she knew of his infidelities. She says that each one came looking for some money afterwards. She says her relationship with him is dead. Of course, he grabs her and kisses her.

Some guys come into the bar to grab Angie and Sam. They kick the crap out of them before Gus and Camilo get there. Miggy is right behind. His sisters embrace him.

NB and EM sink down on a sofa kissing. She puts something in his jeans pocket.

During the happy reunion of Miggy with his sisters, he tells them about Alma.

Laura has a plan of the house and has found a way for FF to get out and leave when they leave.

NB tells EM that she sent out an alarm as soon as he arrived. Gigante comes in and says that an army of guys is outside. She says they are her guys. He can leave by the back door because of the years they were together. She tells him not to mess with her, and she won’t mess with him.

D8D comes to see Nico, who tells him about Sam being in Colombia. D8D is outraged. Nico asks him if he can do something to protect her. He says he can.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – VIERNES – Part 3

There’s a family reunion in NB’s hideout. Miggy tells the sisters they’re totally crazy, but the Valdez blood surely flows through their veins.

D8D chews Willy out for letting Sam go to Colombia. He says he’s going to Colombia to bring back Sam.

Rosario comes in to speak with EM. She’s leaving, but she asks him to kill Miguel for revenge for the death of her son. EM tells her he always knew EV was her son. Jessica comes to say goodbye and calls Rosario abuela.

Piedad comes to tell Jesús that he should leave this house. Her sixth sense tells her that there’s only disaster here. If he doesn’t leave this house, it will be his tomb. She says his destiny is clear and that a woman will be his ruin.

Sam tells Miggy she was in the house of EV and spent time with Fabiola. She says that FF was very sad. They all tried to escape together and were almost killed. She tells him FF didn’t have anything with El Verdugo. He says he saw differently and she said otherwise. NB comes in, meets Angie and Sam and says she’s not in a sociable mood because of a bad encounter that day. The others leave them alone. He tells her he met the doctor who says that Fabiola made him lie. She tells him that Jesús Matamoros is alive!

The Reptile is practically foaming at the mouth. She tells Ringo that Ángela Valdez and her sister are here. She sent some guys to bring them, and they came back empty handed. He tries to speak and she tells him to shut up. EM has come up behind and looks Ringo in the eye. “You’re going to shut up?” He says he’s not going to shut up. They lost a man and he doesn’t like it one bit. He tells her she is not to do anything without his authorization. If she doesn’t like it, she can leave. [How sweet it is to see a Reptile Smackdown!]

Rotten Rod has just made the private plane arrangements for D8D to Colombia. He says he’s going along. D8D sneers at him, realizing it’s about Fabiola. D8D says he’s going to travel so that Sam never comes back to Los Angeles again!

In a reprise of Sam and Angie’s arrivals at the airport, Willy and JM run into each other, both of them on their way to Colombia to bring back their respective partners.

Miggy is surprised that NB was so angry about EM’s infidelities. She tells him that EM himself is jealous of Miggy. But she says she put a locator on him without his noticing. He’s the owner of all of EV’s properties and is living in his house. She now knows where this house is!

EM enters Fabiola’s bedroom. He gets on the bed with her. She wakes up furious. He tells her he only lay down because he had a rough day. But he came to ask her a question. He wants revenge and he needs her for that.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Terrific recap, Hombre. I was very confused by Lucio's call to Niki. From what we've seen Pablo's genuinely planning to keep to his side of the bargain. And what difference does it make if Pablo knows Lupero. He has appeared up to this point to be negotiating in good faith.

It is weird we never even knew that Gonzalo had a wife. Pedro is not family so that's not odd. I thought Gonzalo's wife looked quite a bit like Salma Hayek.

They didn't really explain the reason why Bedoya's son wasn't released. But I suppose they know he's the most important chess piece and want some written guarantee of not being extradited.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE-

Great recap, Novelera! So with the exception of Nora, Nic, Génesis and Violeta, all the major cast members are going to be in Colombia. I don't think I'm revealing anything by saying that the previews show whole bunches of people sneaking around the bushes.

Why did the doctor feel he had hold to a promise he made to the dead Verdugo? The promise was not to reveal the identity of Alma's father - that cat is out of the bag. Of course, we know that Miggy and FF have to be kept apart for as long a possible.

Nobody seems to be interested in the narco trafficing business. D8D lost his partner, EV. He doesn't seem be concerned that EM might not want to continue the partnership or that he needs to go and talk to EM. He appeared to be content to stay in LA until he found out Sam was in Colombia.

NB was EV's girlfriend (before she met EM) but she didn't know where his house is? They have certainly not been consistent about the location of the house thing, not to mention the whole stupid verdugo mask thing.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks for the excellent recap, Hombre. I would guess the same about Dr. Bedoya -- he seems to be a high-ranking appointed adviser to the president rather than an elected official.

About the paramilitary guy's reaction to the news of the government's "victory" -- the alliance with the cartel was always more of a marriage of convenience than a love match. The paramilitary group is motivated -- for good or bad -- by political conviction. They want the government overturned. They have no interest in a deal that leaves people happy with the current government.

Escobar, for all his blathering about being a "leftist", is basically apolitical. All long as he gets (and keeps) his, he doesn't much care which puppets are in power. This deal -- he gives up a few spare millions from the coffer of untold wealth, he drinks his aguardiente in a JailHotel for 2 months and the government agrees to leave the cartel families alone and most importantly, give up once and for all the idea of extradition; and the people think the government has brokered a newly secure nation -- this deal is insulting to anyone acting out of principle and not self-interest.

As for Lopera and which side he's on, I agree with you Novelera. What difference does it make? He's just the go-between. If the cartel didn't trust him, he wouldn't live long enough to carry the messages back and forth. But he's not responsible for the decisions made on either side.

BTW, I thought the word was 'desestrarse', de-stress, to relax, let loose.

Corazon Valiente
Wonderful, wonderful recap Novelera!
Old Dona Piedad tells EM that "his destiny is clear and that a woman will be his ruin." And right after that, the camera pans over to Lady, who is skulking in the doorway...
Yes Miguel Varoni is a wonderful bad guy, but really, he has gone--sort of--straight. I am very fond of Ringo, if only I could forget the scene with him pulling that guy's tooth out with pliers. So... I guess the Reptile is going to be the last baddy standing?

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Great recap, Novelera, and you snuck in a bunch of humorous observations. Thanks.

I think FF once told someone (either Laura or Sam) that the only time she had sex with EV was when she was drunk, and she doesn't remember what even happened. Maybe this will eventually come out to Miggy. But of course at this point, he needs to talk to FF. By staying apart, they both suspect the other may have stopped loving. But if they ever get a few minutes (hours) together, maybe the whole truth can come out.

PABLO ESCOBAR: Due to Monday night football, recap won't be up until tomorrow night.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – LUNES – Part 1

El Mesías tells Fabiola it’s a shame she doesn’t want revenge. He’s sure that Miguel Valdez will come for him. He says that he and La Niña Bonita had a complicated relationship, but now she’s on a honeymoon with Miguel. He knew she placed a tracking device on him, and he’s sure they’ll come for him.

NB tells Miggy he’s not recovered enough to go on the mission, but when he won’t budge, she says it will be at dawn.

Willy is worried that Sam isn’t answering calls or messages. [There’s no reception in NB’s woman cave.]

The miserable SOB D8D blames Sam for his problems with Willy instead of himself. He says he made a mistake bringing her around as Willy’s bodyguard. She ruined his close relationship with Willy, and he’s going to get her out of their lives.

When Clara thinks EM will let Laura, Jessica, Fabiola, and Alma leave, Gus says she’s too naïve; they kill people who aren’t of use to them.

Jessica tells EM she’s not interested in her father’s empire or his money. She stayed because she loved him; but now that he’s gone she wants to leave with her mother. Jessica then goes to tell Laura EM said they could leave.

Miggy refuses to let Ángela and Sam come along for the mission to rescue Alma. Clara asks him if he’s bringing Fabiola. He says he doesn’t want to separate her from Alma; it’s up to her if she comes or not, but he’s getting the baby.

Lady is in love with EM. She says she’s happy to be in such a wonderful house, but happy to be with him. He kisses her forehead and sends her to bed. Guess there’s nothing going on there. A sexy woman in a maid’s uniform comes to his room and is well received!

We get dual scenes of the preparations for the big encounter. EM tells Ringo he wants the best guys to come with him. Meanwhile, NB tells Miggy her best guys are ready to move. Ringo asks if EM is planning to kill Miggy. And Miggy asks NB if she prefers EM alive or dead.

JM and Willy are in the same bar everyone goes to. Willy is nervous and asks what might happen. JM replies that the worst would be being prisoners of his sister.

D8D just walks right in at the former EV house. [What, no guards? Isn’t this place supposed to be a fortress?] He has his usual sh*t-eating grin in place. Ringo tells EM he was a good friend of EV. EM says they can stay, but he doesn’t have time to spend with D8D and Rotten Rod right now.

D8D asks the Reptile what’s going on. She says she hasn’t the slightest idea. Things aren’t like they were when EV was alive. He tells her he came for Sam.

Gus, NB, Miggy, and some other guys arrive at a place in the woods. The locator is here. EM and his guys approach and everyone draws guns and faces each other. EM asks if they came to kill him.

EM asks Miggy what he wants. Miggy says he has no problem with EM. EM quickly says he has a problem with Miggy. He doesn’t like his having passed himself off as EM; his having slept with his wife; having lived with his wife; and he doesn’t like his forming a gang with HIS money. Miggy says he only wants his woman and his daughter. EM says the child is EV’s. “And why would you want a woman who deceived you with someone else.” Miggy says he doesn’t know why Fabiola is lying, but he can prove that Alma is his. EM turns to ask Ringo, who says Alma is EV’s daughter [even though he knows she’s not, the jerk]. Miggy says he doesn’t want the money, the empire, nothing. He only wants FF and Alma.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – LUNES – Part 2

EM says perhaps we can reach an agreement. He’ll have his space and Miggy his. We’ll respect each other. EM says he can have NB. Miggy says he wants his daughter. EM says he doesn’t mess with the personal stuff. He doesn’t care whose kid she is. Fabiola will have to decide, but he’ll pass along the message.

D8D says he can tell the Reptile the truth. He’s decided something that has been difficult for him. But this time no one will stop him. The Reptile guesses it’s to kill Sam! He’s amazed she knew. She says it’s because he realized he’ll never have her. He can’t bear for Willy to have her. She ruined his relationship with his favorite child. The Reptile holds up a little bottle to poison Sam with. Later D8D calls Nic and tells him his grandpa will bring his mother home. The Reptile says: “In a box, right?” D8D looks kind of sick at this.

The Reptile isn’t surprised to hear that JM and Willy are here. Doña Victoria knows everything, she says. She says that it will be easy to get Sam with Willy as bait.

The usual bunch of thugs come after JM and Willy in the bar. They don’t fare as well as Angie and Sam. Willy is dragged off, gun at his head and JM is unconscious on the floor.

Miggy explains the “pact” to his sisters. Sam is surprised he trusted EM. Miggy says he had to; otherwise there would have been a massacre. NB pipes up that EM is not the same. The man she lived with would have killed them all. But she says that EM is a man of his word. He’ll give Fabiola the message.

Rod comes to see Fabiola who says she never thought she’d lay eyes on him again. He says he’s dying to see her and moves forward as if to embrace her. She shoves him away and tells him to get out.

EM tells FF that Miggy didn’t exactly ask about her. But he said that the child is his and he wants her.

Willy wakes up in the dungeon and the Reptile is there. She tells him she left JM there. She prefers not to see him [!] She tells Willy he can’t leave. She tells Willy that Sam abandoned him and her children.

EM has flashbacks to mercilessly killing people, with NB looking on approvingly. FF comes to see him. She says she wants to leave with her daughter. He says that they both can leave. He’s fed up with her, with Valdez, with cops, with everyone. He wants to be alone.

FF asks Ringo why Miggy said Alma is his. He says he doesn’t know. What an ass.

NB gives her guys some secret instructions.

Miggy, Ángela and Sam go to the hospital. They don’t know which guy is there, but they found out in the bar that one of them was taken away. They find out it’s JM in the hospital, and they ask him where Willy is. Sam gets a call from D8D using one of those voice disguising calls. He says that, if she wants Willy, she has to come alone and tell no one else. He’ll text her where. Of course she agrees and doesn’t tell Miggy or Angie about it.

NB has dressed herself as a nun and some of her guys as priests. They stop the car in which Ringo is driving Laura, Fabiola, Jessica, and Alma to the airport. NB takes Alma, while Fabiola desperately struggles to get her back.

EM says to Lady that he wants to be in love with a good woman. He’s tired of the bad ones. Fabiola comes in crying begging him to help her get her daughter back.

NB, still in her nun costume, hands Alma to Miggy.

EL SECRETARIO - Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012:Episode number 73:

After a night of passion, Emilio and Toni wake up late. Madcap panic and mayhem ensue as they rush around to get to their morning meeting with their huge client. They apologize for being late. Toni, with notes on iPad in hand, goes into sales pitch double talk to convince the client to continue his marketing contract with Copito. Emilio interrupts her to chime in and help convince him to stick with Copito. In the end, he decides to stay with the company. He leaves, Emilio tries to celebrate the moment with Toni but she leaves quickly.

Emilio tries to talk with Toni about last night. She tells him 'it was a mistake'. He isn't happy - 'a mistake!?!?!' He tries to argue with her - it wasn't a mistake for him. She tells him it was for her. She reminds him she is married to Felix, recently married in fact. Just drop it and leave me alone! She walks away, frustrated and confused. Emilio is shocked and frustrated.

Meanwhile back at home. Mario is in his underwear cleaning the underside of his dining table when Yessy arrives. He crawls out and she puts his hair in piggy tails and starts to straighten his hair as she talks to him. She wants to know about his psychiatric session. He tries to deflect the truth. Eventually, she pesters him enough and he reveals that the psychiatrist indeed thinks he is gay. She laughs and starts calling him "Maria". He gets angry and tells her no one at the office can know. She says, fine, then he has to treat her like she was his 'novia'. She massages his back as he breaths on the glass and draws a heart and an 'x' through it.

Felix is at home, cooking for Copito. Copito is sniffing all the ingredients on the counter as Felix fixes breakfast. (that is one very pampered pooch)

Toni is sitting in a long chair on the deck, alone with her thoughts. Her cell phone rings. She debates a minute whether to answer it. She answers. It's Felix - She tells him the good news the client won't be leaving Copito after all. He is excited with the news. She has to hang up and get ready to leave - the shuttle boat will be there soon. He can tell something else is wrong, but doesn't pressure her on the phone to tell him.

Emilio is in his room, in front of his mirror and an open window, practicing his arguments about why last night with Toni meant the world to him. He loves Toni, and last night, he was able to tell her and show her how much he indeed loves her.

Episode ends ... Emilio runs to catch up to Toni as she walks to the beach to catch the shuttle boat. He wants 6 minutes to talk to her about last night. She doesn't want to talk... There's nothing to say. He has to talk with her and begs for 6 minutes. She begs, pleads with him to forget about last night. He can't do that. She walks out to the shuttle boat. He looks up at the sky in frustration.

CORAZON VALIENTE-

Thanks for the super recap, Novelera.

Boy, the scene with the two gangs all pointing their guns at each other was pretty stupid looking.

Is FF so dumb that she can't wonder about the dates of her pregnancy and her obviously full-term child or she could just ask Dona Piedad.

EM is not much of a narco guy if he is hitting the bottle out of guilt for killing people. I thought the scene with him having sex with the maid was bizarre.

So D8D just shows up at the heavily guarded house and says I was friends with EV. They weren't just friends they were business partners: the brothels; the drugs. Doesn't D8D have to establish another business arrangement with EM? Very weird.

CORAZON VALIENTE

Thanks for the excellent recap

Now, will FF help EM against Miggy? I wonder what EM's plan is.
It was interesting that EM rejects the "good" woman that loves him and wants to be with a woman that doesn't seem to be a "good" one.
I liked the scene he shouted at FF and ask them to leave him alone with his ALMA.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Jean, it IS ridiculous that FF could look at that roly-poly baby and believe EV when he said it was a preemie.

It seems to me that they're hinting that EM's near-death experience and being saved by Doña Piedad and Lady are what made him question his evil ways in the past.

The scene with the maid didn't bother me. She arrived of her own accord and with a big seductive smile. We all know TN men, except the main galán, cannot resist sex when it's offered.

NovelaObserver, I hope you're wrong. But they could be going with Fabiola now hates Miggy for stealing her child and helps out EM.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Lunes, Part 1

Pablo is talking to his lawyer, Dr. Patarollo, asking about extradition. Well, says Dr. Pata, the personal secretary to the President, Bedoya, says if you immediately release his son, he'll personally guarantee that you and your associates won't be extradited. Just a personal, guarantee, nothing in writing? Well, replies Pata, it's his word of honor. Yes, I see. We bandits never sign contracts, we always rely on word of honor. But the problem is, Dr. Bedoya is no bandit.

Remember Niki got that phone call from (the anonymous) Lucio, saying not to trust Escobar? She now overhears a fellow journalist talking to a friend on the phone, saying, Escobar killed our editor, bombed our paper. And now he says he's surrendering. There are some things that you just can't believe.

A guy with glasses and a beard, wearing a suit, a hat and a scarf (a lawyer, right?), enters the model prison. Guards knowingly let him back to GK's (Galán's killer) cell. I now know GK's name, it's Evencio Díaz). They start switching clothes! Evencio says it better work after I paid 800 million pesos. A few minutes later, the assassin hired by Marino shows up, almost stabs the inmate in that cell, but it's the wrong guy! Heavily disguised, and with a fake beard, Evencio nervously walks right out of the jail!

Meanwhile, Niki checks at some records place, and finds that Ivan Lopera visited Dr. Bedoya. She then accosts Lopera at the airport. At first he doesn't want to talk, but she just wants to know if he's working on behalf of Carlos Bedoya (I think the son's name is Daniel) to communicate with the extraditables. He tells her, yes, I am working for Dr. Bedoya. She tells him this is undercutting the government's own negotiations.

At the 1990 anti-drug summit in Cartagena, the President, in shirtsleeves, welcomes some important looking speaker.

The guy who traded places with Evencio is now being hustled out of his cell, what was he doing there? He's not talking. Baldy rushes up, what happened to Evencio? He almost got stabbed, that's what, says the guy. Baldy is pushed away. General Ulloa himself questions the guy. Where's Evencio? I don't know, he says weakly. They threatened my family. Ulloa is beside himself with frustration at this obvious lie. He walks up to each guard, says this could not have happened without some of your help. And I guarantee we'll find out who's responsible. Cut to the President at the conference, being handed a little note: Mr. President. Evencio Díaz escaped from prison.

PABLO ESCOBAR Part 2

Chili rustles up young Bedoya, let's go, gives him the key to unlock his chains.

We see the killers look at Baldy, maybe they'll still go after him. Cut to the government leaders. Ulloa points out someone was trying to kill that guy (so I guess they now know he was the real killer and can let the innocent guys go – yeah, right). Bedoya says I'm sorry I've been acting selfishly, but what's a father to do? If you want, I'll resign. No way, says the President. I don't care what the people say, this might bring peace. But we need the backing of the US. I'm going to speak with the United States President in a few minutes.

Pablo is p*ssed off again, as Marino has failed to have Evencio killed, thus exposing them to his possible talking if he's recaptured. Marino says we can still take care of the other “patient” (Baldy). Marinito, at this point, I've got much more important things to worry about.

Chili releases Daniel Bedoya on the middle of a road, reminding of the message he's to deliver to his Dad. We later see him picked up by a passing car, then tearfully reunited with his family. Meanwhile, Pablo tells Marino we're taking a chance with this. You know how dishonest those government types are. So....if they don't follow through, I'll just go right back to all that bloodshed. They should know that. We bandits have honor, but they don't. Why, because they just want power (sounds a little shaky reasoning to me, but okay).

Bedoya tells the President that his son and the son's family have left the country. So what should we do now, asks the President. The US wants us to be tough, but they don't have to live with all this terror. Bedoya says he gave his word. But....whatever the government decides is okay (these guys are so wishy washy, it's pathetic!).

Or not! The (being portrayed as possibly lunatic) President then calls in Lopera, Ulloa and Peraza, and announces, we're suspending negotiations with the cartel. What!!!? Lopera says don't you know how this'll make Escobar react, when the President of the country basically breaks his word????

Cut to Dr. Pata, nervously approaching Pablo at the hideout. The government says there's nothing they can do. Stopping extradition would be unconstitutional. And....Pablo cuts him off. Fine! Goodbye. He gets up, strides away, not too surprised. His cool visage chills us to the bone, as we know for certain, that what's to follow won't be pretty.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Terrific recap, Hombre. Yep, these government flunkies are unbelievable. And Peraza, who is actually in bed with the Cali cartel, is more than happy to see deals with the Medellín cartel scuttled.

It was interesting how Chili actually seemed almost fond of Daniel Bedoya. I can't remember ever seeing him be that nice to anyone before.

Niki, Niki, get off the Lopera story and back on the innocent guys in the model prison.

The "lawyer" that went in looked to me like he had an extremely heavy 5-o'clock shadow, but Evencio had an actual beard. I guess it doesn't matter since the guards were paid off anyway!

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks for another great recap, Novelera. My favorite scene was when Sam, Angie and Clara were sitting around waiting for the boys to come back. Sam remarked she'd lost count of how many coffees they'd drunk. Right, says Angie, and I'm sooooo nervous! Who wouldn't be, after all that caffeine? :)

PABLO ESCOBAR, Martes

Pablo tells Pedro, the door to negotiations is now closed. And not because of us. We're going back to Medellín. If they want war, then war it is.

We see two young guys working in a wood shop. Later they take a bus to a clearing. Then they wait patiently, talking about the heat, until a jeep stops and picks them up. They're taken to Lucio and Miguel's right wing paramilitary camp, where they're greeted warmly by Lucio. He asks if they know how to shoot, and they say sure, boss. Fine, get some sleep, we wake at 4:30.

Pabon is talking to Martín, his son, who is a cadet. Aguirre comes up, we've noticed lots of armed people in Medellín. Escobar's back.

Pablo tells Pedro, the government has created an elite corps of cops. So we'll kill them. But, replies Pedro, what's killing a few cops gonna do? You underestimate me, replies Escobar. We'll kill them all! He gathers the troops, tells them that for every dead cop, you get 2 million dollars. And for every dead special forces cop, 5 million! Spread the word. High fives all around.

We see 8 cops riding on a pickup truck, when BOOM!, they're instantly killed by a bomb.

In the house of a nice looking rich couple, the good looking, mustachioed husband asks why the cops were killed. Well, replies the pretty blonde wife, because of class differences, right? Not really, honey, it's because the idiots in the government defied Pablo Escobar. But I'm going to change things.

We move to a political debate, where the husband, whose name is Bernardo Jaramillo, is telling the crowd he's the guerrilla candidate, fighting for the rights of the poor, the working class. Another debater, our old friend Santorini, doesn't agree with the leftist agenda, but totally agrees that the current government is to blame for all the violence in the country. There must be a change. All the candidates agree about this.

We see a mass funeral for the policeman. Back in the barrio, Chili speaks to the young guys gathered around, telling them of the $2 million and $5 million bounties. You people can get rich! Don't be poor, it's so easy to escape that now! The neighborhood is overjoyed with the news.

Miguel tells Lucio, these two guys are so young, what are we doing? Lucio reassures him, they're 16, and I know what I'm doing. Besides, now is the time for us to act, with so much instability. They're planning something special for at least one of the two young recruits.

Jaramillo yells to an adoring crowd of poor people, let's divide the wealth! Back in their armored car, his wife Mariela is worried. Should you be so brazen in public like that? I'm concerned for your safety. Don't worry honey, we have 15 guards and 2 armored cars. But, she says, remember Galán? Yes, but now is my time. The government is going down, and it's my duty to continue.

Next time: When right meets left, who's right? And who's left (alive)?

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 1

Miggy asks the Niña Bonita (NB) how she got the baby. NB replies that she took her from Fierce Fabiola (FF).

FF tells the still inebriated El Mesías (EM) that his former girlfriend took her baby. She is sure that Miggy sent NB to do it and she says that she hates Miggy more than ever.

Miggy tells NB that even though FF made bad choices, he still loves her and NB shouldn’t have stolen her baby. NB lies and says that FF didn’t try and defend the baby.

FF tells EM how she tried to defend her baby and says that without her baby, she prefers to be dead.

Angie senses that Sam is lying about something but she lets Sam leave JM’s hospital room. Angie and JM apologize to each other about coming to Colombia and lying to each other, etc.

Gus comes into JM’s room and says that he is being released from the hospital. Does he want to return to NB’s place or go back to LA? It’s clear that Gus would prefer the latter but JM naturally chooses to stay with Angie.

The Reptile tells Ringo that she wants to forget JM and start over with him. “¿En serio?” “Really?” asks Ringo but he doesn’t seem all that excited.

FF has gotten EM in a bathtub fully clothed and is spraying him with water in an attempt to get him sober enough to agree to get her baby back. Finally, EM tells FF that he will help her.

Miggy tells NB that he doesn’t think that his current environment is suitable for raising a child and he wants to go back to LA with the baby.

Locked in the dungeon, Willy is calling for someone to let him out. Doña Piedad comes to see what the fuss is. She tells Willy that he will be one who will destroy EM. [So now we know that EM is going to go after Sam since otherwise there is no reason for Willy to destroy EM.]

D8D, using a voice disguiser, gives Sam’s instructions on where to go to find Willy. The Reptile tells D8D not to wuss out on killing Sam.

The Reptile asks Ringo what a woman who has broken the tie between a father and son deserves. “Death,” replies Ringo but he doesn’t know who the woman is.

Lady comes to see EM. He tells her that he needs a good woman. “I’m not good?” she asks, hurt. EM tells her that she is wussy good. He needs a woman who is strong, brave and good. [No wonder EM has relationship problems. He’s about as sensitive as a stone.]

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 2

Laura and Jéssica are at the airport in Bogotá. They are sad that they couldn’t prevent NB from taking FF’s baby. Laura says that Jéssica needs to get out of EM’s house. Jéssica asks if Laura will be with her forever and ever. Laura says yes. [That’s usually a bad question to ask.]

Miggy tells the baby that he will try and get FF back so that they can all live together.

D8D shoots Sam with the world’s fastest acting tranquilizer dart. [Why didn’t he just shoot her with a gun? Don’t ask questions, just tighten your beanie and move on.] He tells the unconscious Sam that they could have been happy together if she hadn’t fallen in love with someone her own age, his son, Willy. D8D pours the poison into Sam’s mouth. [How does he make her swallow it?] He leaves. Sam exhibits the universal novela sign of being poisoned – foaming at the mouth, in this case a delicate, yellow foam.

Sam is lying in the middle of the road. Up drives EM. He leans over Sam smells her and says [I kid you not] that she has the perfume of a good, brave and beautiful [he didn’t need smelling for that] woman who has been poisoned. He puts her in his car and calls Ringo to alert the doctor.

Doña Piedad tells Willy that EM doesn’t know that he is in the dungeon so he should be able to leave.

Miggy is told that Sam is missing and says that he has to go find her right away.

The Reptile agrees to let Willy go. She advises him to leave Colombia right away but he says that he won’t leave Colombia without Sam.

EM brings Sam to our nameless, long-suffering doctor. The doctor has no idea who EM is. EM orders the doctor at gunpoint to save Sam. He says that he doesn’t know why but he needs the doctor to save Sam.

Doña Piedad tells D8D that this will be one of the worst days of his life.

Miggy is out looking for Sam with JM and Angie. They intercept the Reptile’s car carrying Willy. There is another silly gun standoff.

The doctor doesn’t even have an examining table. Sam is on a couch. Fortunately, the Reptile’s poison is not nearly as fast-acting as the tranquilizer dart. The doctor gets out his chemistry set and prepares an antidote that he hopes will work even though he doesn’t know what the poison is. He doesn’t do anything obvious like pump her stomach out. EM wastes valuable time threatening the doctor again. The doctor gives the antidote to Sam orally.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – martes – Part 3

The Reptile repeats lies about FF being happy to be EV’s heir to Miggy but she lets Willy go with Miggy. She tells JM and Angie that she is no longer interested in JM.

D8D is so despondent about losing Sam that he decides to kill himself with a gun. Rotten Rod bursts in and tries to stop him. There’s a classic novela struggle with a shot being heard. Both D8D and Rod look stricken…

EM finds Sam’s driver’s license and sees that she is a Valdez. Sam wakes up. EM finds a handy Verdugo mask and puts it on. He says that he is Salvador, her salvation.

What a tease. Usually someone is shot in these gun struggles. In this case, it would have to have been Rod, since we hope that D8D will receive some worse fate and Rod seems to have very little to do with the story. But nobody is shot and Rod will continue to wear his preppy sweater. He urges D8D to continue to live.

Lady and FF are looking for EM. FF, in particular, is annoyed that EM said he would get her baby back and he hasn’t done it. Unhelpfully, Doña Piedad tells them that EM is where his destiny has taken him. Taking advantage of Doña Piedad’s ability to see the future, FF asks her if she will get her baby back. After some cryptic remarks, Doña Piedad says that FF will get her baby back. Note that FF does not ask if Miggy is the father of her baby.

NB tells Camilo that she loves EM but she can never return to him.

The doctor calls NB and tells her that he has Sam at this place. She was poisoned and brought in by a man. EM catches him making the call.

Jéssica and Nic are reunited.

JM proposes to Angie.

Sam wakes up again. EM is in the verdugo mask again. Sam points out that EV is dead. EM replies that he isn’t El Verdugo. He says that he is wearing the mask to protect her and that he is helping her because of how she smelled.

FF tells Lady and Doña Piedad about the terrible pain of losing a child. The Reptile comes in and says that she understands having lost her unborn child. She offers to help FF get her baby back if she will kill Miggy.

Somehow Willy and the gang find Sam at the doctor’s office. EM has left. Sam and Willy kiss but then Willy tells her that he can’t forgive what she did by coming to Colombia and it is over between them.

EM gets in his car but NB is hiding in the back seat.

PABLO ESCOBAR

Thanks, Hombre, great recap.

I'm pretty sure Pablo offered dos mil y cinco mil which would be $2,000 and $5,000, respectively.

The political thing has me very confused, but I'm sure it makes sense to Colombians. What happened to Gaviria, who was supposed to be running for president. How come the same old wishy, washy guy is still president? And the new guy almost seems like a Galán clone.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Loved your recap, Jean. Great snark!

Until it happened, I never thought about EM going for Samantha. I should have figured it out when he told Lady she wasn't brave enough! Yep, zero tact there.

I suppose Willy is going to stick to his guns about he and Sam being over. But what about the babies. If Sam is going to stay in Colombia for EM to continue to fixate on her, then they have to come up with a plot device that keeps her from wanting to be with her adored children.

Too bad Rod stopped D8D from blowing his brains out, but he has to be around until the last week, I'm sure. I DO love to see him suffer, thinking he's killed Sam. Wonder how long it will take him to find out otherwise?

I love the insane telenovela mindset of villains. D8D tells the unconscious Sam how happy they could have been if she'd just loved him. Now I could have made Brad Pitt or Antonio Banderas very happy, if they hadn't stubbornly fallen for someone else.

What's up with the Reptile's hair? She was a redhead at first. Then she went for the platinum wig. Then she went to LA and her own hair was a nice, honey blonde. She returns to Colombia and is back to the platinum wig again. She even wore it getting it on with Ringo. Weird.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks, Jean, hilarious recap. I liked when you said that EM didn't want Lady since she's "wussy good". Hah!

That doctor is quite a funny character, too, without meaning to be. Right, that chemistry set was off the wall. But it worked. I sort of thought they'd have to use Piedad's natural medicines, but I guess not. I also chuckled when EM saw that the doctor had El Verdugo's old mask. He said to the doctor, was something going on between you two? (!) Miguel Varoni is such a ham, he probably ad libbed that one.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Miércoles, Part 1

There's an argument in a pool hall. Two cops come in to break it up, and are shot dead. Downtown, a woman has her purse snatched. When a cop tries to help, HE's killed. Apparently Pablo's plan is working (I confirmed the reward was $2,000 and $5,000 – sorry about that!).

General Ulloa deplores the situation, it's really a low blow. Niki asks if it's the cartel of Medellín. Who else? So what are you doing to protect policemen? Well, they won't ride motorcycles, won't wear helmets, and at night, they'll keep their police lights off. Niki wonders if this'll really work.

The two young recruits of Lucio have been installed in a hotel room in Bogotá. Lucio, wearing a suit, explains what's going down. You guys are gonna get lots of dough. Who do we have to clip? Sit down, boys, you need to know one thing. I know both your families, your dogs, your pet birds. So if you ever open your mouth about any of this, instead of hitmen, I'll turn you into gravediggers. He shows them the picture of Jaramillo, their “first”target.

The first few neighborhood cop killer guys collect their rewards from Pablo in his place overlooking the city. Chili says enough with the regular cops, go for the elite. Miguel pulls him aside, what's up with all this cop killing? Cops are good for my side. Sorry, Miguel, but I'm not stopping.

At the police academy, two young guys share their worries. The one, the elite guy, is staying at the academy, but the other has to go out on the street. Pineda is the regular cop, Julian Ariza is the elite.

Lucio and Miguel talk by satellite phone. They're both mad that Pablo is killing cops. But THEIR plan is going well. The only place to get Jaramillo is in a public place. The time is now, the place is the airport.

Outside Jaramillo's apartment, guards are everywhere. Inside, Bernardo tells Mariela that tomorrow, after he finds out if he's elected Senator, the two of them should get away, for a week, to Santa Marta, to rest, to think. Mariela is excited, we could see the cathedral, you'd be safe, and we could work on your wonderful political program. He's quiet, though, says he loves her.

Lucio reprises the plan, the innocent one named Jason will wait in the airport waiting room for the guy to arrive, and then kill him. The other guy excitedly says and of course your other guys will kill his guards. Lucio is silent. The second kid goes on, saying if he boards the plane, I'll board it, too. Lucio cautions the second one, that's only as a last resort, as a plan B. Lucio again says keep your mouths shut, if you're caught we'll get you a lawyer and get you out. Lucio gives them nice clothes, and an automatic pistol for Jason, telling him I know I chose the right man for the job.

PABLO ESCOBAR, Part 2

Next morning, Bernardo and Mariela leave the house, get in the car, he tells her everything will be fine. In the airport, Jason is reading his newspaper, hiding the gun under it. Two young lady attendants in red outfits look his way. One walks over. Good morning, what's your flight number? I don't have any. Is everything okay? Sure. She leaves him, but seems suspicious. The other guy is looking around. Jaramillo's car arrives. They enter, with their guards. The girl in red talks to a cop. Jason's friend decides to help. He intercepts the cop and asks where a cab is, causing a diversion. Bernardo kisses his wife. Jason approaches to a few feet away, holding the gun under the newspaper, yells “Doctor”, the candidate turns, and the automatic pistol spits out bullet after bullet of lead. A guard shoots Jason in the chest, dropping him with a single shot. Screams are heard. Bernardo is hustled into a car as Mariela weeps, hugs him. Cops take Jason, still alive, to another car.

The news confirms that Jaramillo is dead. Peraza speaks to the press, condemns this repugnant act. It's the second presidential candidate to fall. He places the blame squarely on the Medellín cartel, headed by the worst killer in history, Pablo Escobar Gaviria.

At Pablo's place, Pablo is furious (again). Why do they always blame us? Peluche liked this guy. Pablo likes leftists, too. He's fed up with this country. And to top it off, Miguel and Lucio are criticizing me, and I get blamed for their stuff! (so I guess he knows they did it). (It's just like I say with regular telenovelas, the good guys are usually all working on the same side, but the bad guys have different aims. This causes problemas. Grandes problemas!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – MIÉRCOLES – Part 1

Despite Sam’s pleading, Willy insists he cannot forgive her. Having heard Sam’s story, Miggy wonders why the guy who saved her wore a mask.

NB points a gun at EM in a car. They squabble about his rescuing Sam. He tells her to tell Miguel Valdez that he saved his sister and he’ll owe him one. NB says she’s never going to let Miggy know that EM did a good thing. After a bit of flirting, he tells her that the baby needs to be back with Fabiola within 24 hours, or the truce is over.

The Reptile’s plan didn’t work. She's trying to poison Fabiola's mind and to bond with her over having lost babies. But FF tells her she would never be capable of killing Miggy.

Ángela, of course, accepts JM’s proposal. [Did he ever divorce the Reptile?] She says she doesn’t care he’s no longer rich.

Ringo is not as dumb as he looks. He’s suspicious that the Reptile is suddenly so in love with him and gave up her obsession for JM.

D8D tries to convince Jesús that business between them will be the same as that with El Verdugo. Jesús looks at him as if he feels the same way about him as Viewerville. But, D8D has been drinking and is maudlin. He tells Jesús that he never really loved or wanted the Reptile, but his son was the light of his life, although he’s now his enemy, his rival. He tells him it was all over the sister of Miguel Valdez, Samantha Sandoval Navarro. EM stares at him fixedly.

NB is holding Alma, who doesn’t appear to want her as a stepmother since she’s crying up a storm. When Miggy comes in, she tries to guilt him asking if he’s going to leave her after she risked her life getting his child.

D8D tells EM that Samantha got between them. She drove them both crazy with desire. But he says she got her punishment; she paid for it.

Miggy tells NB he’s sorry. He’ll be grateful to her all his life, but this is not a place to raise a child. He’s leaving with Sam and the rest.

JM tells Willy and Ángela he refused to take the case to defend the woman who killed the man who spurned her and his family. Willy sarcastically says he needs to thank the man who saved the mother of his children.

Piedad tells EM about the Reptile having her brother a prisoner and then taking him to town. EM asks her to be his eyes in this house. She again says that EM and Willy will confront each other in a life or death situation.

Ringo brings EM a letter EV left. It’s the day that would have been EV’s birthday if he’d lived. The letter is for Fabiola. Ringo wants EM to read it and decide if she gets it.

NB tells Miggy about the 24-hour ultimatum of EM. He says that, if Miggy leaves with the baby, EM will kill her.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE – MIÉRCOLES – Part 2

EM gives FF the letter. We hear EV’s voice saying he wishes he could have had a long life at her side and with the daughter he wishes would have been his! The night that she doesn’t remember never happened. He never would have taken advantage of her like that. Alma is the daughter of Miguel Valdez!

NB’s ploy appears to work. Miggy says he won’t let them harm her.

Piedad comes to tell D8D he’s the reason the river changed course and is to blame for the tragedy to come. [Presumably EM would not have met Sam if he hadn’t poisoned her.]

Gus is told of Angie and JM getting married when they return to LA. He moves off brusquely asking if there’s any coffee!

Ringo and the Reptile are in bed together. He feels sad because it’s EV’s birthday. She tries again to prod him into going against EM, but he just says some people are born to take orders. After he leaves, she calls him an imbecile and bad in bed.

The Reptile has decided they’ll have a memorial mass for EV. She tells EM about it. She says this way they’ll trap Miggy because he won’t be able to resist coming to see FF. EM tells her the reason he’s doing all this is only for the baby. It’s because he never had a mother and doesn’t want that for Alma.

Neither Miggy nor JM can change Willy’s mind. He says things won’t ever be the same between he and Sam.

EM googles Sam and finds out about her bodyguard business.

NB tells the baby she made a mistake taking her and she has to disappear. Miggy comes in and tells NB that he has had an idea. NB and her guys should go to a finca in the north that EM doesn’t know about. That way she’ll be safe. He has to leave for Alma’s sake.

EM tells Rotten Rod he knows he has an aviation company. He wants his help going to LA!

D8D goes looking for Sam’s body after Piedad said something about some dead people are quite alive. He shrieks no. It can’t be. Gigante followed him and reports back to EM. He says D8D looked around like a crazy man. EM figures it out; D8D poisoned Sam.

We see people gathered for the memorial mass: the Reptile, Ringo, Fabiola, and EM enters as well. Back at the hideout Sam tells Willy things will be better at home when they’re with their children. He coldly tells her that, when they return, they will separate.

We see some quick developments: JM collapses for some reason [perhaps the result of being knocked out in the bar]. Camilo has gone after Miggy. And Gus catches NB in the act of putting Alma in the back of an SUV.

Fabiola decides to go to confession while at the mass. When the priest asks her what she has to confess, she says her only sin is loving Miguel Valdez. And, of course, the “priest” is Miguel Valdez.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Excellent recap, Novelera. One of the funny things on this show is how they treat don't always worry about details. In this episode, we had EM on a computer, various texts being sent form NB's hideout, and several characters saying "I just talked to someone back in LA, and Nick's fine".

But on the other hand, if Miggy and Fabiola ever once called each other on the cell phone, they could have ended their problems months ago! Yes, sometimes, there aren't phones, sometimes there isn't reception. But other times there IS. How did everyone find out about the mass? I know, details.

I DID like that reveal at the end with Miggy as the Priest!

CORAZON VALIENTE

Thanks so much novelera.

I loved the last scene (la confesion)too!

Today is the last day of shooting.

CORAZON VALIENTE- Thanks for another great recap, Novelera.

I think JM has some kind of continuing head injury resulting from the beating he took. Several times, he has indicated that he is in pain.

The writers seem to be moving Miggy and FF back together. FF finds out that Miggy is the father of the baby; Miggy finds out that FF loves him.

I was amused to hear Gus say that NB couldn't go to the States since she is a wanted criminal - but the Reptile, a convicted murderer and fugitive from justice, has gone back to the US at least once with no problem.

It seems like the whole cast is going to go back to LA now.

Corazon Valiente
Novelera, great and super recap! I am loving Miguel Varoni in this, he is a complex and interesting "villain". Meanwhile, who is watching JM and Angela's kids--have they dumped childcare duties on Nora? How about Arturo? Is Sammy ever going to learn the truth about Esteban kidnapping her? Okay, okay, these are small details, but still should be worth the writers' time to address.
J in Oregon

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

Jean, I wonder if the Reptile will stow away on the jet El Mesías is getting from Rotten Rod and show up in LA also. Surely she won't be left in Colombia while the whole cast moves north!

J in Oregon, I am also liking Miguel Varoni in this. Both he and El Verdugo are being presented as kind of tortured individuals, not 100% bad. And you always worry about Arturo! Hopefully Nora is feeding him and maybe they have a maid or someone who can walk the poor guy.

Nora must be watching all six children [Nicolás, Génesis, Violeta, Juan Cruz, Luz, and Valentín] because JM doesn't have servants any more.

Corazon Valiente
Novelera--yep, these things are important to animal lovin' viewers! And I am hoping that Lucy ends up with Violeta and Genesis. And the poor cat who plays Lucy is going to be happy to see the end of Aylin Mujica.
:o)

PABLO ESCOBAR, Jueves

Pablo is bemoaning getting blamed for all the killing when Pati comes in, demanding “Why?”. He says he had nothing to do with it, and walks out. Both Peluche and Gonzalo swear to her that Pablo “didn't kill anyone”. Oh, yeah, no policemen? Hmmmm.

Lucio is calming down the other young guy, Lionel. Lionel is upset his buddy got shot (we see him struggling for life in a hospital). Lucio says don't worry about that, Jason did his job, and now it's your turn. You have a mission.

At Jaramillo's funeral, Niki asks President Lopez (sometimes they call him Delacruz, sometimes Lopez, maybe he's President Lopez Delacruz?) and Bedoya for their response, and it's the usual sorry statements.

At the police academy, Pabon and Aguirre talk to the young elite corps. We're not hiding. Julian Ariza (whom we saw yesterday talking to regular cop Pineda) asks, what about the bounty issue? Aguirre tells him most Colombians are not corrupt.

Pabon's wife Elena visits him, with their son Martín, also an officer. Martín is told to wait outside, but listens through the door, as Elena tells her husband she refuses to be afraid. Martín wants to be out on the street with you, and I agree.

Mariela cries to another handsome mustachioed guy, who says he'll carry on Bernardo's leftist fight. She's been offered an “option” in Brasil, and he urges her to take it. Cut to Lucio showing Lionel his victim. It's this very guy!

Julian Ariza and regular cop Pineda are walking down the street in plain clothes. Pineda is relaxed, Julian is nervous, saying just because we're not in uniform, I still don't trust anyone. This turns out to be warranted, as Pineda KILLS him! He then takes a picture, necessary to claim his reward. What a guy.

Pedro Motoa as usual, doesn't like this new campaign, calling it the devil's path. Pablo's happy though, now we've got an ally on every corner with these bounties. They go in to talk to Santorini in the back room. Santo gives his opinion. Guys, the next President is going to be César Gaviria, all the people who liked Galán are flocking to him. And no way will Gaviria negotiate like the current government. Me? Nope, I'm not going to get elected this year. Let's be realistic. And as your friend, I'm telling you that killing Gaviria won't undo all the other stuff you've done, won't help. Gonzalo is upset, your advice stinks. Wait a minute, says Santorini, there is one thing. In the upcoming election, there'll also be a referendum on a new assembly. This assembly will have the power to change the Constitution. And they could ban extradition. That's what you should work towards.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE - jueves Part 1

FF confesses to Miggy, who is disguised as a priest, how much she loves Miggy.

D8D asks EM to grab Miggy’s right-hand guy, Camilo, who is waiting outside the Church.

Sam can’t believe that Willy won’t forgive her. He tells her that when they get back to LA, they will separate. Willy says that peaceful, family life is not enough for Sam. She wants adrenaline and flying bullets. Sam is denying it when she and Willy hear Angie’s cry for help about JM.

NB tells Gus that she was just going for a walk with the baby. Gus replies that the baby is Miggy’s and he will make decisions about her.

JM comes to and says that he has a terrible headache.

FF recounts the whole history of her time with EV to false-priest Miggy. She repeats that she only wants her baby.

EM and his henchmen have Camilo. They ask him where Miggy is. Camilo doesn’t reply and gets beaten up. Then D8D shows up.

The Reptile makes a little speech at the mass for EV but really she and Ringo are waiting for Miggy to show up.

D8D tells EM that Camilo took his woman and infiltrated the narco operation for the police. He produces a gun and says that Camilo should be killed. EM doesn’t let him kill Camilo.

FF tells false-priest Miggy that EV made her deceive Miggy to save his life. She says that she thought Miggy loved only her but no, he hooked up with a female narco who took her baby. Miggy can’t contain himself. He says that he is here and loves her more than ever but FF says that she just wants her baby.

Sam pleads with Willy to forgive her again. She tries to kindle their desire for each other by kissing him but he pulls away and tells her that their love deserves a more dignified end.

The Reptile demands to know what is going on from EM. She says that the mass is over and Miggy hasn’t turned up. EM replies that his guys are looking for Miggy but maybe her plan failed. The Reptile says that her plans never fail [- an astounding lie - the Reptile’s plans have failed many times].

Miggy swears to FF that he will bring her baby back.

Lady is looking at pictures of Sam on EM’s computer. Doña Piedad comes in and says that Sam is a “maldición,” a cursed woman.

NB tells Angie and Sam that she would really like their brother to stay with her.

FF tells EM that Miggy was here but she won’t tell him where he is. She says that she wants to leave with Miggy. She gets on her knees and begs EM to help her. EM says that he is a sentimental guy - she can go.

CORAZÓN VALIENTE - jueves Part 2

There is a lengthy and boring leave taking by Sam, Willy, Angie and JM from Clara, Gus and NB. Angie tells Gus that she hopes he will find someone.

Back in LA, Laura is nervous about what is happening in Colombia. Nic’s rehab is making progress. He wants to see his mom. He says that she sounded sad on the phone.

FF jumps into a car with Miggy.

Camilo is in the dungeon. D8D comes in to gloat and hits Camilo some more.

NB tells Clara that she is a woman of intense passion. She had that with EM and didn’t believe that it could come again until she met Miggy. She says that it is hard to accept that she will be alone.

The Reptile suggests to EM that maybe he didn’t help FF escape because he is sentimental but to imagine NB’s face when Miggy shows up with FF. EM replies that there isn’t anything wrong with that.

Rotten Rod tells EM that his plane is ready.

NB flashes back to torrid sex with EM and Miggy. Then Miggy comes in with FF. FF tries to attack NB for taking her baby and has to be restrained.

D8D says that Camilo will help him get Clara back.

The Reptile tells D8D that Sam, Willy, Angie and JM have returned to LA.

EM leaves Ringo in charge of the narco business. He warns him not to make himself vulnerable to the Reptile - she is a bad woman.

Lady asks to go to LA with EM.

Clara asks Miggy where Camilo is. He didn’t know that Camilo went to the Church to keep an eye on hm. NB and her guys go to look for him. Camilo cannot be found and Clara is alarmed when she hears that D8D is in town.

FF is happy to be reunited with her baby. Miggy says that they need to talk but FF says that she wants to be alone and has nothing to talk to him about.

FF tells Miggy that she broke his heart by taking her baby. He doesn’t understand the pain and grief she felt when Alma was taken from her. She tells Miggy that she hates him with all her heart. Miggy is naturally confused since not that long ago, she told him in the confessional that she loved him more than anything. Maybe it’s those postpartum hormones.

Willy, Sam, Angie and JM return to LA and have a joyful reunion with Nora, Nic, Laura and Jéssica. Angie tells JM that he has to go to the doctor right away.

JM and Angela are at the clinic. JM persuades Angie to go home to the children. We know he is doing that so that she won’t hear what the doctor has to say and can conceal whatever problem he has from her in time-honored novela fashion. The doctor comes in and tells JM that it is bad news.

We see that EM has brought Lady to LA.

Willy tells Sam that he is moving out of their bedroom. Henceforward, she will only see him with the children.

EM calls Sam and says that he is her “salvador,” her savior.

CORAZON VALIENTE:

Thanks for another super recap, Jean!

I agree, Fernanda wasn't thinking back too far when she said her plans "never fail". Other common telenovela misstatements include:

-We'll never be separated again.
-I'll never walk (or see) again.
-I'll never forgive you.
-Jealous? Of COURSE I'm not jealous!
and of course the usual
-If you ever get near my man (or my baby) again, I'll KILL you!

I think FF said the last one in this episode, about 5 minutes after she told someone else she was no killer. Hah!

CORAZÓN VALIENTE

Thanks, Jean. I really enjoyed your recap.

Why in blue blazes didn't Miggy tell Fabiola that HE didn't ask NB to kidnap the baby?

Whew! I was afraid NB was going to shoot Gus and get away with the baby. Then we'd be treated to a couple of missing baby weeks. Oh, wait; that's Univisión.

One cliché that bores me is the old woman who has the "sight" and mutters about bad things that are going to happen.

I like the actor playing Fabiola, but when she gets mad at Miggy she just looks like a 15 year old having a tantrum.

That scene with D8D torturing Camilo with a cane bothered me. When, oh when will we get another D8D smackdown.

I suppose narcos have to go down hard in telenovelas, but I'll hate to see Jesús meet the fate Doña Piedad is predicting for him. He's so far been a gentleman.

So my money is on a brain tumor for JM. We'll surely see more scenes of the entire cast in the waiting room while only one person, usually NOT the logical next of kin, comes out with bulletins.

PABLO ESCOBAR

I'm starting to think this novela should have been condensed by about a third. Much of it is getting repetitious.

I suppose it happened, but it's kind of amazing that right wing paramilitaries are also killing politicians.

Did we see Pineda before? There are so many people in this novela that my memory fails. So, if I understand, he is a cop. They both were in plain clothes to avoid being killed. And then he killed a fellow officer? And the ones doing the killing are so brazen that they take Instamatic photos of their victims. Yikes!

The handsome mustachioed guy that has just joined the cast is Tiberio Cruz. He played Pajarote in Doña Bárbara and Zein in El Clon. Hope they don't kill him soon; he's a favorite of mine!

Corazon Valiente -

thanks Jean !

wow, the confessional with Fabiola pouring out her heart and all of the details to the priest (Miggy) while he had his own emotional bath as well, that was so intense,

but then later, you really can't blame Fabiola for just wanting to grab her baby and run, and shut the whole thing out, this whole thing has been such an overload for her.

and the old wheel chair in the dungeon captures yet another victim... I'm having trouble with the part where el Mesias told Fernanda not to do anything without his permission, and I would think that would apply to Bernardo as well since he is just a guest, but now that EM is gone... and the Reptile has a boss she can manipulate... (and did they mention doing business with the russians), and I really can't see La Niña Bonita, quietly stepping aside, quietly doing anything... and how will Camilo, the kind gardener, ever get out of this one.

looks like EM and his guy arrived in LA dressed as pilots,

hmm, so Willy is kicking Sammi out, while EM is opening the door for her, and D8D (who now knows that Sammi is alive) is staying in Colombia to pursue his property, Clara...

Pablo Escobar -

thanks so much Hombre !!!

I have yet to find a decent cast list for this show, of course it would start to look like a phone book by now, and so any casual characters I have a difficult time with, as I am usually glued to the captions rather than looking at their faces, so am very grateful to you for sorting them all out.

so the scene with the two policemen went right over my head, and by the way, what do they mean by elite, are these officers, or an elite corp being formed to get Pablo, or...

and while he took his pictures of his kill, I noticed other people in the area just ignored the whole thing, I would imagine that this is having a quite an impact on Medellín, and Pablo wants 500 dead?

I'm thinking that Pablo over the years, in targeting the competent people in government and rewarding the idiots, has really destabilized the government, and any individuals that are still willing to stand up to Pablo, are quite unique,

but then I am also thinking the U.S. government is a big player in this game, but not so in our story.

on the presidents name, in the IMDb cast list he was listed as Presidente De la Cruz, but of interest, there was no real president of that name, this must of been a tricky part of this production, dealing with real people, but the real guy, Virgilio Barco Vargas, does look just like our guy.

(best guess is 22 more shows, +/- a couple)

ROSA DIAMANTE

hi deb.

so happy they jumped the story 6months ahead. was getting real bored with Rosa in jail.

what's more ridiculous is Rosaura being sedated for over 6months. guess telenovelas ARE ridiculous. but I'm still here, so what does that make me?

I hope Rosa doesn't forgive JI so easily, but it doesn't look that way. she's still all sappy when thinking about him... ugh!

Gerardo Sr got what he deserved... shut him up for a long time hopefully. He is a swine! so is Sergio.

Rosa Diamante -

hi shallowgal,

this show zips right along, and the actors all do their crazy parts so well, I think Rosa and Junior are the only sane people here, oh and Ramon has become such a sweetheart helping Rosa.

Geraldo's stroke is so strange, such a domineering miserable person, now paralyzed, still carrying on like nothing happened, but only us can hear his thoughts. When Martin was rushing to see Lu, Geraldo, with a look, froze him in his tracks, me too!

and Barbie, married to JI, with no sex, finds herself pregnant from the corrupt detective that repulses her but has been collecting fringe benefits while he waits for Barbie to get his blackmail money, a baby she is certain, is a monster, an alien, an extraterrestrial.

and so kind of Rosa to get Rosaura out of the grips of her caretakers, and hopefully brings back her sanity.

and so happy, that Andrea, who has been forever abused by Gabriel, just won't stand for it anymore, but will they tell the fiscal the whole story about Jorge, who may be stalking them both.

and the lovesick JI... can only look on.

PABLO ESCOBAR:

Novelera, thanks for the info on the new guy Tiberio Cruz. I don't know his character's name yet. I sort of think we have seen Pineda before, but I'm not sure where. Killing a supposed friend is about as low as you can go for $5,000.00.

Deb, the elite cops are the ones training in the police academy, I think they're more like cop/soldiers. I also think they are "national" or "federal" police, as opposed to local police.

Thanks for the IMDB info on the President's name.

PABLO
I've also been wishing I could find a comprehensive cast list for this show. I hate that they don't credit guest actors at the start of episodes.

i made a joke once that this show employed every actor in Colombia, and sometimes it looks like it, a lot of times in really small roles. I saw Alex Gil, the artist from FLOR SALVAJE, in a really small role as one of the people who died in the plane bombing.

I'm watching a lot of Colombian novelas lately because of MundoFox, so I recognize a lot of faces without being able to put a name always. Like one of the virgins with Pablo (the one who got strangled) was Zulma Rey who has a big role in A MANO LIMPIA.

One actor I've been trying to put a name to and haven't been able to is the female newspaper reporter for the El Espectador. Anybody know that actress?

PABLO is a short novela, but still too long. it is well acted and expensively produced, but I don't think it is all that well written and is probably trying to cover too much - like every aspect of Colombian life tangentially connected to Pablo. it's emblematic of a writing trap musical theater composer Stephen Sondheim talks about in his book of lyrics during the writing of a show based on actual events: "the lure of authentic, interesting and irrelevant information."

I think PABLO too often gets mired in sub-stories involving events which did actually happen, but aren't necessary dramatically relevant to the story of Pablo, or ultimately superfluous or redundant.

ROSA DIAMANTE
Yeah, that 6 month jump, while it works in Rosa's story, makes no sense for any of the subplots, many of which had reached a crisis point where lives were being threatened. So did the wicked nurse get a baby the traffickers wanted - she said they'd kill her if she didn't; yet six months later, here she is. So the other bad guys still haven't had a chance to kidnap Lucia in that six months?

The worst is the one you said, shallowgal, the Rosaura being sedated for 6 months. But that storyline never made much sense to me when there is a darn doctor as one of the main characters. Really, he couldn't figure out something was wrong? makes even less sense after Rosa explicitly told him she thought the nurse was up to no good and he still hadn't acted in six months.

Pablo Escobar -

hi RG,

there is a short cast list at the wiki page, which has spoilers since the page is following the Colombian showing, which is now over, they list the reporter as, (the real name in quotes)

"Susana Torres as Nikki Polanía (Maria Jimena Duzán)"

and Hombre, if it helps, they list Tiberio's character as,
"Tiberio Cruz as "Diego Pizano" (Carlos Pizarro Leongómez)"

and the IMDb page has some other names is here,
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2187850/fullcredits

EL ROSTRO
I heard that Marlene Favela will play Eva Samaniego but didn't she die during the school massacre? Could the be the REAL shooter?
