Amores Verdaderos #17 Fri 11/30/12 Let Me Be Your Angel
We open this epi with the near miss, er kiss of the Angel and Ms Vikki in that stuck elevator, as he encourages her to breath in then out, in then out, sigh!
Dances with Sunglass is waiting for Nelson, who of course, is in a meeting with the accountant going over some accounts. Hilda gives him some pictures to give to Aldo, the ones that were authorized by Vikki, for a cosmetics account. He goes and in comes Guzmancito and Nikki. She has come to see her Snappy Papi, but he's still in the meeting and of course, here comes Kendra, wanting to boink, er see Nelson too! Well, Nikki and Kendra greet each other, they remember each other from the photo shoot, doncha know, and Nikki explains to Kendra why she didn't model that day. Ugly bathing suit picked by Mummy. Well Nikki is liking what Kendra has on. Kendra says its by her favorite designer Emmanuel Quintana, who by the way ,she knows personally, wonder how much, jus' sayin', Nikki is impressed and Kendra promises to introduce her. Nelson is now free and Nikki tells her it's ok, she'll wait, well kissies on cheekies and Kendra goes. Meantime, Guzmancito has gotten a call from Bea, who tells him she has left her hubby, he is crazy jealous and she can't take it anymore. Frankie tells her to pick up her son at school, then go to her friend Estrella's house and he will find them there. Nikki is all nosy wantin' to know who was that he was talkin' to, nonya bidness, he says, well of course it was personal.
Now these bidness guys are walking by the elevator and the Angel hears them and bangs on that elevator. The bidness guys ask if they are ok, Angel tells them so not ok, need help and the guys promise to get the elevator engineer to get them out.
Nelson and Kendra in his office and they start the smooching. Well, Nelson tells her he can't leave his wife for her or lose his family, must have taken Dances with Sunglasses', advice, jus' sayin. Well now Kendra thinks ole Nelson is toyin' with her. No, but this has to be a locked in the vault secret and she is a danger to him, Ha! Well, she thinks the danger is him, and oh, my eyes!!! AGAIN. Nelson and Kendra are gonna do it again, looks like, first on the desk, then on the sofa, he's unzipping that dress, Oh, Dios my eyes!!!!! Saved by the phone. Nikki was about to walk in, when her phone rings and it's Vladdy, and he says say hi to the bodyguard for me, as if. Anyhoo, she'll talk to him later and now goes in the office, where, wait for it, it looks like a respectable bidness meeting. Nelson is behind the desk, Kendra in the chair in front of the desk, and Nelson is out of breath, lookin' like he ran the NYC marathon, jus' sayin'. Well, Nelson's not happy she interrupted, you see, cause he wasn't "done" with Kendra. Kendra says it's ok, she's gotta go anyways and she goes. The whole reason Nikki wanted to see her Snappy Papi, is cause she wants him to convince Mummy Vikki to cancel that club membership she got for Lili, her Mummy has become to democratic with the help, as if. Nikki also notices her Snappy Papi is a little nervous as in freaky, as she says in English, lol. He blows that off as he hasn't heard from his Sweet Wifey Pooh, who was supposed to call as soon as the French couple, the Arno's have signed that contract.
Now the rescue of our star crossed couple commences. The engineers have come and are going to manually open the doors. They get them open, and you can see that the elevator isn't quite level with the floor, they have to climb up to get out. So Ms Vikki goes first, then the Angel and they thank the bidness guys and the engineers profusely for setting them free. Angel helps our Ms Vikki to put her jacket on, he straightens her hair for her, gets herself together and now it's on to the French couple, who have been waiting impatiently, thinking that Ms Vikki stood them up and that she is very irresponsible!
Chrissie has come to Meta Imagen, lookin' for the Angel and has brought him lunch. She finds out he's not there, and Hilda says so that's the daughter. Hilda tells Chrissie, Angel is off with Ms Vikki, don't know when they are comin back. Chrissie wants to leave the lunch. She runs into Guzmancito, she sees something is bothering him, and he tells her about his sister and the trouble she is having. Chrissie thinks it might just be a spat, but Frankie assures her it's not, Bea has left her rat bastard, er husband. Chrissie tells him , no problemo, she and her son can stay with me. Ms Vikki said it's like home to us, so she gives him directions and the phone number to the place. Guzmancito doesn't want to impose, but she says its perfectly ok, and will give them a safe place to stay. He thanks her. Here comes Nikki. Guzmancito introduces Nikki to Chrissie, you know the wife of the Angel , so Nikki says oh, Mariana's mummy. Chrissie gives Guzmancito the food, since who knows when the Angel is coming back, and Guzmancito tells Chrissie, Nikki isn't good with names, lol. Chrissie tells Guzmancito to enjoy the food and she goes.
Vikki finally makes it upstairs to meet the French couple who are about to leave. Vikki talks them into staying, and wants to know if they want to see the presentation. Well they are miffed cause she wasn't on time, she explains to them about the accident with the elevator, but they aren't buyin' it. Well, the Angel steps in and admires the French Lady's necklace. His Papa discovered this mask in his work as an anthropologist in Vera Cruz with his team. The French Lady is impressed. Angel's Papa found many more of them in the ruins and they are unique to Meso-America and these peoples liked to show happiness or express it, they were obsessed with this. The French Lady is very impressed, she bought this necklace at an anthropology museum. The French Lady wants to know if his Papa found the original in the ruins he worked, oh yes and many more. The French Lady thinks that the Angel studied Anthropology too, but no he studied Agronomy, he deals with the land, plants, animals, agriculture. The French couple is so impressed now they decide to give Ms Vikki another chance, YAY!
Hilda has to leave the desk for a sec, and asks Frankie to watch the desk. Of course he will, when guess who calls? We knew this would happen sooner or later, it is his Mama Paula, asking for Hilda. She asks whom she is speaking to, and finds out it's Francisco Guzman at your service. Ruh Roh, the tears start cascading down her face and Click! she hangs up. Frankie is like, Que the Hell, but Hilda comes back and he leaves the desk.
Frankie tells Nikki he's gotta take care of some personal bidness, only needs an hour, but Nikki wants to go with, they go.
So the Angel has come to save the day! The French couple, the Arnos have signed that contract and there is happiness all around. They are so pleased to have met the Angel and good to do bidness with Ms Vikki. The Mme Arno wants to kiss Angel's cheeks in the European way, but he declines. They laugh, and she says Au Revoir. M. Arno bids them farewell too, and they go. After they go, Angel asks if they wanted water, lol. Ms Vikki explains to the Angel that Au Revoir means Adios. He laughs. Ms Vikki says see I told you before you are my Guardian Angel and you saved that contract. Ms Vikki is so happy he is working for her again. We interrupt this recap for the chorus of this song, which so fits here perfectly:

Unfortunatly, the elevator henchie has heard every word and calls Odette to give her the bad news. The French have signed that contract and the Angel was the force behind that. She calls the henchie worthless and good for nothing. She wants to know who the Angel is anyway? He is Ms Vikki's bodyguard. She hangs up and says he will pay for what he did, stickin' his nose it where it doesn't belong.
Frankie has come to where Bea is. He tells Nikki to wait in the car, windows rolled up and to stay put. She doesn't like it, thinks she will get sunburn, and he puts the top up. He goes to the house, knocks and Bea comes out. She is so glad to see him and just wants to get outta there. Nikki, meanwhile is seein' all this and is so not pleased. Note to Nikki, Jealous much, jus' sayin'. Bea is now crying, telling Frankie that her life is hell, she can't take anymore, wants to go, her hubby is jealous, she is usually able to handle this, but not anymore. Now Frankie notices the bruise, and he wants to know how long this has been goin' on, the hitting. It isn't the first time is it? She says no, not the first time. Frankie is so pithed. She also told him she hasn't told Guillo they were leaving cause he loves his Papa and she is afraid Leo will come look for her. Speak of the devil, here he come, loaded for bear, and informs his wife, let's go, coming home, not going anywhere with your bro, your MY WIFE AND WILL DO AS I SAY. Well, Frankie, ain't havin' it, no siree Bob, he isn't and tells Leo she is not going anywhere with Leo and he is gonna teach him a lesson about respecting his wife. Well, Leo takes his shirt off, ya know, he doesn't want to bloody it, but Frankie gets in the first punch, calls him a coward and Leo thinks he's got the upper hand, not so. Frankie gives him the beatdown, well deserved I might add, and tells Leo you ever do this again, you die. Leo says he'll pay and goes. YAY!!!!! So what has happened to Nikki all this time, you ask. Well, I'll get to that. Bea hugs her brother, for saving her from that brute of a hubby and he gives her the address and phone number for Chrissie and tells her to go stay with her. She is someone he trusts. She is very thankful. Well, now to Nikki, she has watched this whole thing and in her little bratty brain, assumes that this is Frankie's "amante", doncha know, and that the hubby has come home and caught them. Nikki feels she's been played! Well, is she ever pithed, and now gets out of the car, after having honked that horn, and tells him let's go. Bea wants to know who that is. Oh, Nikki, his job of course. He wants to keep the personal and the bidness separate. Bea thinks he is very mysterious. Well Frankie has to go and does with Nikki who is berating Frankie about his "amante". He doesn't tell her squat and they go.
Back to Paula now, who has called back and is very happy she has gotten Hilda. She asks about the guy that answered the phone and of course Hilda tells her that was Francisco Guzman, bodyguard to Nikki Brizz, oh noess. She tells Hilda that Frankie is her son! Can't be, oh noes. Paula tells her she hasn't heard Frankie's voice since he was fourteen years old, that is when she abandoned him. She can't beleive it. Well there is another call, and Hilda has to put Paula on hold. What a coinkydink, it is, wait for it Candelaria Cornona lookin' for Anibal Balvanera! Hilda puts her on hold and goes back to Paula. Candy is thinking to herself, please Dios I hope I have the courage to talk to Anibal, there is so much I gotta say, and what did you think of that letter I sent you, you know the one where I informed you we had a daughter? Back to Paula and Hilda, who is informing Paula this is soooo not her day. Why is that? Cause Candy is on the other line, that's why? What does she want? To talk to Anibal. Well, don't put her thru Paula says. Hilda is hopin' she doesn't get in trouble for it, but will do as Paula says and will come by to see her laterz. So Hilda gets back on the line to Candy and tells her what Paula told her to tell Candy. Anibal went away this morning and won't be back for three weeks, a vacay she says. Candy tells Hilda to tell him Candelaria Corona called and she'll call back. Click.
Lili is taking care of that orchid in her custody, you know, the one Ms Vikki gave her to bring back to life. Chrissie is asking Lili where she got the bathing suit, and Lili explains to her about Ms Vikki getting her that membership at the club cause she found out Lili likes to swim. Chrissie thinks she is trying to buy Lili. Lili says, meh, not so much, Ms Vikki is such a nice lady. Chrissie then says I hope you save that plant, cause then we'll owe the Balvanera's even more. Lili pooh, poohs that idea, she will save this plant with lots of love and attention. Chrissie thinks Lili is a bit naive. Well, Lili talks about Frankie and how nice he is and Nikki. Chrissie says oh, yeah I met her, she called you Mariana. Lili just laughs and says yeah, she's always that way with names. Well, then Lili tells her Mama how much she likes Frankie and does she think Frankie could like her as a girlfriend maybe. Chrissie says why not, you are pretty, intelligent and a good girl. She then tells Chrissie about the guests that will be staying soon, Frankie' sister and nephew and of course Frankie will come to visit. Lili is sooo happy.
Switching gears to Tuxtla where Adriana has come to see Opalina the medium. Opalina is lighting a candle as Adriana knocks on the door. Adriana has come to thank her for letting her know her daughter Lucia is alive and she tells Opalina that her padrino Antonio has confirmed it and now she needs help finding her. Opalina suggests she ask her Papa Anibal. No way, says Adriana. He is the one that lied to her and told her the bebe died. Opalina tells her she is only able to find people on the other side, she is a medium, she can't tell where people are on this earth, the living in other words. But she knew Adriana's Lucia wasn't on the other side. So she tells Adriana that her instincts as a mother and her love will find her Lucia. In other words, the call of the blood. Adriana thanks her and goes.
So Chrissie has her hands in the masa, lol. She is makin' tamales for the guests that are coming, also there was an order from somewhere, for her to make tamales. There is a knock on the door, and Lili is all flustered, thinkin' it might be Frankie. Lili smooths her clothes and hair and then goes to open the door, it is Bea and Guillo. Lili is flustered and Bea is asking for Chrissie, and Lili finally gets it and shakes her hand and introduces herself. Lili says you must be Guillo, and he wants to know how Lili knows that. Lili says it's magic!
Now we come to the waiting archenemy of Vikki, it is Odette and she is waiting on Vikki for that celebratory drink they will have for Vikki getting that contract. She is still pithed. Vikki and Angel come in to the restaurant and Angel asks permission to wash his hands, lol. She says oh sure no problem, so she goes to the table where Odette is, the champagne has been poured and then congrats Vikki for the victory of getting that contract. Meanwhile, those elevator henchies are sitting at the next table and go to the bathroom where the Angel is. They grab Angel around the neck and there is one with a knife. Angel tells them not to hurt Ms Vikki. No they won't, but they want to leave a mark on him he won't forget, so he won't be stickin' his nose in bidness where it doesn't belong. How long do you think it takes for the Angel to take them out???? Not long, he disarms them with his karate moves and the fight goes out into the restaurant area, and Vikki and Odette see what is goin' on. The Angel dispatches them quickly, they run with their tails between their legs and Vikki wants to know what the hey is goin' on, already. She wants to know who those men were? He tells her he doesn't know, they attacked him in the bathroom. Angel, who is sooo wise, tells Ms Vikki, he doesn't think that the elevator incident was an accident. He thinks it was to stop Ms Vikki from getting that French contract. Odette has said, noone is safe anywhere, anymore. Angel thinks someone is out to hurt Ms Vikki. Well, who could it be, hmmmmm. They both turn to Odette and Ms Vikki asks her if she had anything to do with this incident. Cara de impacta de Odette, who is shakin' in her boots, jus' sayin'.

Paula's daughter will now be living (with Cristina) in the same building! After having Francisco answer the phone, Paula is definitely going to have a major melt-down. (and she has it coming, IMO)
And I am so glad Beatriz left that jerk husband. He is one angry man; the actor did a great job.
Nikki can be so annoying. Poor Guzman. He seems more like her babysitter than bodyguard. Bless his heart.

Paula's daughter moving in with Cristina was a surprise - I like it. What will Paula do, with Guzman visiting and her daughter living in her building? Lucky for Cristina, maybe this means Paula will stop visiting her. It's a crying shame that Paula is trying to screw over Cristina while Cristina is offering to help Paula's daughter out of a bind.
I liked the contrast of the gritty scene with Guzman dealing with his sister's wife-beater husband, while rich girl Nikki with her shallow worldview jumps to the wrong conclusion about what she's observing.
Someone mentioned before that the food never seems to get eaten. Guzman left Cris's JA lunch behind at the reception desk.
Hope Vicki's nemesis isn't able to snow JA and Vicki about the elevator outage and bathroom attack.

In case anyone didn't mention this yet, the wife-beater is Julio Camejo who played the self-serving fortune hunter and grifter Francisco de la Vega in Destilando Amor. He looks a lot stockier in this novela. Love how Arriaga told Victoria that the job
isn't boring.

Did I understand Arriaga correctly, when he told the French couple that his father was an anthropologist? Do we know what JA's career was, before he became unemployed.
Doris- HJA told Vicky the story before. His dad was an anthropologist, his mother was a native woman his father met on one of his excavations. JA was at university studying (don't remember what) when his father died. He had to drop out of college and give up his dreams of becoming a ?, in order to support his sick mama in Veracruz. By that point he met Cris (who came to Veracruz on a school trip) and decided to marry her. His mama died, he sold their land there, and moved to the are where Cris lived. They married, bought some farm land with the money he had from selling his mom's property, built their house, became farmers, and had Lili.
I wouldn't be surprised if it was anthropology that he was studying when he dropped out of college.
The question is, how does Vicky reconcile this version of his life story, with what Salsero has told her about his James Bond background?

I think JA said he was studying agronomy.
I had forgotten about Salsero's fake James Bond story. Come to think of it, after JA shot the vase it was pretty obvious to everyone he'd never handled a gun. Seems Miss Vickie is too distracted to add it all up.

I was surprised when Lili acted as though she liked Nikki when talking to her mom, especially judging by their last two encounters. Was that to show us her naivete or that she is such a sweet person??

Doris- I had the same thought you did, especially now her daughter, grandson,living with Chrissie, and Frankie coming to visit. Paula will have a meltdown, cause we all know, sooner or later, Candelaria will come to visit. I too am glad that Beatriz left Leo, about time.

Floridia- I like Erika. I've only seen her in Mar de Amor so far, she is way better here. Yeah, I noticed Julio Camejo right away. I will never forget him as de la Vega, Francisco de la Vega, lol. He is a way worse character here.
Vivi- I think Nelson has already figured out that the Angel doesn't have that James Bond background and Salsero apologized for it, for fudging the background investigation on him. It's amazing that the Angel has saved the day all this time with just his hands. He is way better with his hands then with that gun :)
Anne-NYC- Nikki is very attracted to Guzmancito. She just doesn't know it yet. She gets mad everytime another woman even looks at him. She tried to trigger his jealousy by going off with Rommel and then Vladdy later. He hasn't responded to her and it pithes her off. I think Lili thinks that Nikki is a big baby and Lili has stood up to her. Lili knows she is a spoiled little rich girl and I think they will tussle some more. The funny thing is, they are cousins and just don't know it yet. Wait till they find out. Lili is a very sweet person. I really like her, but she has such a crush on Guzmancito. I hope she doesn't get hurt.

Julie- I too love this song. Do you know that Stacy Lattisaw was only thirteen when she recorded it? She has a fabulous voice. I heard this song the other day, going through my old record collection. I still have a great stereo with turntable and speakers by Bose :).

And now her son and daughter (wait till she finds out Bea and her grandson are in her apt building) are also becoming part of that world. Her worlds are going to collide soon, and it won't be pretty!

Plus when she was on the phone with Paula, she said two things were making it a bad day for Paula: Guzman answering the phone and Candelaria calling. If Hilda realized Anibel's unknown daughter was visiting, that would make it three things.

Vivi- you are right, Salsero apologized for not telling Nelson about the super spy James Bond background. I went back and looked at the recap. Vikki I think is turning a blind eye to the Angel's background. She just likes the fact he's saved her everytime.

I think Paula knows there is a danger of Chrissie visiting Meta Imagen, cause she knows that the Angel works for Vikki, what she didn't know is that Frankie works as Nikki's bodyguard, that threw her off balance. Can't wait for them all to run into each other, the next time Paula comes down to get info out of Chrissie, lol. Paula will have a meltdown.

I think Niki acts like a spoiled teenager because that's all she knows. She's supposed to be at least 20, I think, but never had to grow up because she's been coddled all her life.

Madelaine, Terrific recap..love all the details along with the humor. Sometimes I am reading email etc, when I am watching, so I get distracted and miss something. I know who Hilda is in general, but don't know what her special connection is to Paula that she is willing to break rules or lie for her. Were you one of the regulars following LVO? It's still one of my top favorites.

Doris- You are so right about Leo. Can't stand the fact that we all know he will show up again, I'm really hope Angel takes him out the next time.
Floridia- I watched LVO but didn't know about Caray then. I discovered Caray only in December of 2011. I didn't comment until Feb of this year. I think it was during LFDD. I started watching Univision in 2010 during CS 2009. I went back and read all the old recaps for LVO, and CS 2010 so I could see what I had missed :)

Mmmmmm, tamales, tamales. We have a tamale lady who delivered tamales this afternoon. Maybe not Chrissie and Cadelaria's secret recipe but they're pretty tasty though I'd like to know the secret ingredient. How funny that everything and everybody is coming to roost under Paula's roof, literally and figuratively. Having destroyed the letter with photos, if Anibal discovers that, Paula will be gone even faster. I don't think we were told what was in that letter besides Anibal having a daughter and granddaughter. Wonder what Candelaria's motivation is after all these years?
Hope Big Angel remembers to have that switchblade or knife in the trash can in the mensroom analyzed for fingerprints. It could lead to some criminal.

Madelaine, you were revving on all 4 cylinders...this was great. "snappy papi" and "elevator henchies" were among my favorites. Loved the title. You always make these so much fun...

great recap. i am ready to jump in and help out with the thursday recaps. I will need to switch with you wed for thursday the 13th and 14th of dec, since i leave for Puerto Rico around 6am friday the 14th and would probably have to go to bed real early the night before.
Have to comment i loved the moment where Angel jumped in and came to the rescue of Vic and started commenting on the indian face pendant on the french lady... he gets so goofy when he brings out his childish side... same happened with his character as Rodrigo in Destilando Amor.

This episode was great, there were so many funny scenes, and in the meantime kudos to Bea leaving her husband.
Oh, and I loved the "anthropology scene". I have a friend who has a degree in cultural anthropology and an other one who's a biological anthropologist (and spends all his days with hundred years old human bones). Both fields are fascinating.
I'm glad that Arriaga has a passion for cultural anthropology - thanks to his dad.
