PEAM # 33- 4/24/13: Marisela Definitely Chose The Wrong Career! She Should Have Been a Therapist!!

It may be November outside but in Alma and Jesús hearts it is spring!!

They get together for any reason justifiable or not, and this time it is to talk about Orion's dirty business. This could not be important, but it is because Avon is in the mix and Jesús has not been able to take Avon out of his heart!
Or Alma, for that matter...
Xóchitl keeps screeching and stalking subconsciously getting on Jesús nerves, who sooner rather than later is going to face her like he has done with everybody else who has reached the limit of his patience...

In the office, Ricardo brags about the shortest kiss in show business (including Hitchcock's) while remembering the lips touching in the most cold way.

Alma and Jesús plot to uncover Maximo's dirty tricks before the CAMERA OF COSMETICS and maybe before the security cameras too, why not? And to do that guess what? Yes!! They have to spend the whole night together ''working'' on the spreadsheets to make their entry unbeatable.

Pati explains to Fer the best way she can, why it is better to have her as a sister in law, and it is because she will give him Alma's desk (aren't  Fernando and Alma at the same level in  management?) Wait! Where did  I put my Faraday Cage? BRB-

As everything in that workplace, Rogelio finds out pretty soon where Alma is having coffee and with who, and to confirm, calls Alma to ask her about the flowers ''he sent''.

Verónica is burning everything around her with her blowtorch and after arguing with Martha the therapist, who for some reason doesn't understand she still loves Jesús and that she is in Egypt, in de Nile, not willing to keep paying 2000 pesos for 40 minutes, hours if that is not working for her!
And speaking of Marisela, she is also remembering that flavorless kiss Ricardo stole from her... imagine if the kiss was like the ones Jesús and Alma share from time to time... That would be ''immemorable'' as Cárdenas put it.
The chain of desire ends here! Discua, who prays and meditates to keep her aura in a color appropriate to her spiritual being, ignores that Cárdenas is secretly in love with Jessica, who is after Fernando, who is after her... Hopefully all pieces in this puzzle fall into place soon...

And here is where the winking-counter went crazy!
Jessica faces Discua and they fight over Fernando, Discua asks the ''Supreme Beings" pardon to give this woman a good fight and there they go, catfight!

I don't know why Malvino and Silverio, while taking the money out of Rogelio's Palace, pretending to Domitila it was only trash, gave the bags to Pánfilo, THE ONLY GARBAGE COLLECTOR IN MONTERREY, only to chase him later on to no avail trying to get the money back!! So stupid!!
They could have said anything to the maid and I am sure she was not going to verify the content of the bags! I wish Pánfilo keeps the money so he can give it to the police and he can win a reward to get his daughter back. Or keep the money, anyway, thief that steals from another thief, has 100 years pardon (in spanish makes more sense- quoting Gloria Ruiz)

Vero visits Jesús only to find Elías there, they argue. Jesús gets a hug from Elías and the office people wink (without sound) in disbelief. Since Jesús works here, more exactly, since this morning, the office has been visited by almost everybody from Avon!! He is actually the ajonjolí de todos los moles!
After Vero leaves (knowing there's no alcohol in sight), Jesús tries to convince Elías to fix things up with her, but he is brokenhearted and disillusioned, and the only thing on his mind right now is getting back to work and to  see if he still has a job...

For the first time we get to see Alma's father silhouette, watch, hands, phone, so we assume that soon he will show up to mess thing up, more!!

The episode ends with a cliffhanger, and knowing how these things are done, I am sure, the garbage truck will stop in the last nanosecond! To at least scratch the expensive car!

Vocabulary:
Esto sirve para tres cosas, para nada, para nada y para nada!- This is good for only three things, nothing, nothing and nothing!
De lengua me como un taco (I can eat a taco made of tongue)- You speak too much and I doubt you can do anything.
Medio babas- Stupid, retarded
Pura finta- Just a facade, not real
Cuchitril- Very poor house, not pigstall
Lenguas viperinas (snake's tongues) - gossipy tongues
Sarnoso (with mange, not fleas)
Trivia: In the opening theme, we can clearly see FAMSA (the furniture store) logo when Valentina is holding her bear Meloso...
Porque el amor manda #2 by Doña Susana

wink-o-meter: 12 winks, being the funniest the ones in a row!! Two times!

Don't trust the previews, I am sure Jesús and Alma will not kiss during their night together even when they don't know there are security CHAMBERS watching them!

Wonderful recap. I too don't buy that Patymelt and Rog will see Alma and Chucho kiss.

It was so funny with those garbage bags that Malvino and Silvestro had. They could have claimed they were old clothes for them to wear instead straight to the trash, lol. They are Fern are bumbling boobies. Not a brain among them.

What was that stuff Vero was spraying all over herself at the Orion office. She sprayed some of it before she went into Orion, and I thought it might be some sort of perfume.

I can't wait for tomorrow to find out what happens with the Avon as Chucho and Alma will be working it.

Pablo--Oh, such a funny recap of all the goings on. So, just about everyone from Avon has been to Orion.

It wasn't much of a catfight. I expected hair to be mussed up, clothes torn, make-up askew and shoes lost.

..cold lips, haha
..Vero's blowtorch, haha
..flavorless kiss, haha

Give us the Gloria Ruiz quote in Spanish, please.

Did I miss something? How did you know Sebastian is Alma's father. It reminds me of MEPS where we only saw the back of Artemio's head for a long time. Has Alma ever said anything about her parents?

Thank you for the excellent and educational recap. I appreciate the heads up for tonight's episode. The coming attractions don't always fit.
Yes, is there only one garbage truck in Monterrey,
I enjoy your wink-o-meter!!!
So, we now know the real reason as to why the Ice Princess is melting!! Poor Elias.
And this mysterious man, Alma's dad, hmmm.

Thanks Pablo. I also don't believe anything that preview was trying to sell us. Jesus would never mack on Alma like that. At least not at this stage in the game.

I still don't quite buy that what Vero feels for Jesus is love. But if that's what she thinks, I'll go with it for now. Poor Elias needs to pull himself together and move on, but he also needs to work something out regarding Valentina, because she seems to gave been forgotten by all three of her parents right now.

Pablo, it was a great recap. I liked your "Verónica is burning everything around her with a blowtorch"--it sure described her actions last night.

My favorite part was Elías baiting Verónica with his coffee with whole milk and four sugars.

I needed the Faraday cage, beanie and extra tin foil for the two Bozos (Malvino and Silverio) and the moronic garbage bag caper.

After seeing Discua fight last night, I wonder if there is more to Discua than meets the eye. Wink! Wink!
I know it's a bad joke, but I couldn't resist . . .

Jarifa

Thanks!

And Alma also has a brother. One day I saw Alma talking to a picture that was her brother, so when I heard Rogelio say Sebastian, before seeing those old hands, I thought it was him, but I did some research and found out Luis Couturier is Sebastián MOntemayor, so I connected the dots...

Gloria Ruiz (Sofía Vergara- Modern family) keeps always saying things that nobody understands, so she ends most of her sentences with: It makes more sense in spanish!

Tell me, a ''kiss'' where you only press the four lips together (and for three seconds), is really that memorable??

Pablo -I believe Alma's brother is dead. At least that's the impression I got when she spoke to his photo on Dia de los Muertos. I think they were trying to keep the old guy on the phone's identity a secret until Rogue springs him on Alma.

Ok! Juan Osorio is not Pedro Almodóvar, but someone said once that it would be wonderful if Discua was actually a tranny (that would explain the casting too). So, with that hypothesis, we could guess that Alma's brother was not really dead, but he has re-born in a new body (after all isn't the body just the case where our spirit and other goodies are kept?). I can almost see the ad in the paper:
WANTED artificial-looking woman to play a male to female character, LOL!! And they hit the Jackpot! (sorry Carlos)

Pablo, thank you for the superbly funny recap. I definitely had to set down my cup of hot tea as I laughed and occasionally snorted over your descriptions of last night's antics. Your vocabulary additions are terrific too. I love the "De lengua me como un taco." Since I am currently hanging out with two incredibly blabby young people I know I will get to use it TODAY. Can't wait!

I do remember when Vero was spraying herself, and wondering whether it was perfume or some sort of anti-bacterial spray or what.

Also, the "Ladron que roba a ladron" quote (which sounds better in Spanish) reminded me about that very amusing movie of the same name, starring Fernando Colunga! If you haven't seen it, it is worth checking out of the library or renting. Very funny and lots of eye candy.

I think my favorite theme now is the Wink-o-meter. Brilliant idea.

Thanks Pablo! Great recap.

Excuse me for going off-topic for a moment, but I ran across a dicho or refrane yesterday and it makes no sense at all to me. Maybe one of you knows what it means? "El remedio, el trapito, y amárrale aqui tantito". Anyone heard this before?

This comment has been removed by the author.

The one I know is shorter. You not only ask for the ointment but wou also want the rag (el remedio y el trapito), and probably means ''have your cake and eat it too''. Is for when you want more than help, you want the whole thing ready for you with no effort.
We also have ''peladito y en la boca'' -peeled and in the mouth.
If you want to be ironic you can add, do you want me to chew it too?

So basically, Sylvia's saying includes the sarcastic bit at the end. "So you want the ointment, the bandage, and you want me to tie the bandage for you too."

Thanks everyone. How I've missed bouncing this stuff off you guys.

Thank you, Pablo! The Spanish part of my brain was broken last night, so I really needed some help.

Are we beginning to wonder if Discua really is a mosca muerta? A trepadora? A gold-digger, even? She asked about Maricela's "rich" dad the other night, and last night she couldn't wait to get Fernando on the phone and tattle to him about Jess. Is her religious wholesomefulness a little game she's playing to snag a man with money?

And did I see Fernando swipe one of the dropped piles of cash last night?

Why does Orion have such a lax policy about visitors? At Avon, most of the visitors were friends of the executives. But Chucho is a lowly assistant, and a brand new employee besides. He's had at least three visitors in the two days he's been working there. Some employers would frown on that sort of thing.

The mysterious man Rogue spoke to on the phone - I thought he might be Rogue's real boss, from the crime operation. But if he's Alma's dad... oh, right. He could still be the crime boss! Ack! Poor Alma!

Any speculation as to where Mari thinks she's going to be sleeping tonight?

Sorry, I forgot to mention that. Fernando took some money from the floor last night and even counted it with his ear...

The man on the phone could be both Alma's father and Rogelio's boss. I guess the backbone of the story is the laundered money, necessary so everything else could fall in place and give a reason for whatever is happening, but I don't understand why someone who is so successful working in a Company as Avon, had to mess it all up getting into dirty business. There's no need, or is it? Can Rogue justify all he owns (the palace), only with his salary as CEO of Avon Monterrey?

OH, sorry... I got too excited about the money that I forgot the main reason I replied, Marisela!

Marisela doesn't seem to have friends, Alma knows her secret but I doubt they can share the penthouse together.
She doesn't have male friends, except Ricardo but I doubt they can share the same roof since they're both single.
I will be surprised if she survives one night in Monterrey with all those gold chains wrapped around her body, but guess what?
YES!!
Chatita's golden heart has always the answer to everything (and there's nothing a little Rompope can not fix, hahaha), if we could only make a connection between Chatita and Pánfilo, wait! there is one! I am sure Marisela knows Chatita, and if they all know each other so well, I wonder why Pánfilo has not yet moved to the privadita next to the virgen of Guadalupe!! I am sure is not that expensive...
Oh, yeah, this is a TN, and nothing makes sense as in the real world, right?

I don't think Rogue is competent to do his legitimate (Avon) job, which is why he foists all of his work off on Alma. He must be using Avon to launder money - which means that if anyone needs to review their books to investigate Orion's cheating in the Camera of Commerce competition, they could get caught.

And then the blame could be placed on Alma - or maybe even Chucho. Which reminds me, wasn't he already accused of and/or victimized by fraud some years ago? (I don't think he mentioned that during his talk with Elias about the breakup with Vero the other night, so it hasn't been mentioned in a while.)

I know it's a ridiculously small world, especially in this TN where everyone has the same garbage collector AND knows his name and all of his business, but what are the odds that the original fraud is somehow related to Yuri/Rogue??

Well done, Pablo and you write like a savvy journalist who packs a lot into the opening paragraphs but leaves you wanting more.

Loved the dichos and vocabulary too..."de lengua me como un taco" I would never have figured out in a million years...but hey, it makes more sense in Spanish! (just not to me)

Poor little Valentina, hovering outside her mami's door. Shut out by self-centered mom and abandoned by her two papis. Please resolve this fast! My maternal hormones are getting hysterical.

Anita:

About Alma's Papa, they don't see each other often and I got the impression they don't get along well, for some reason. That scene with Sebastian was very MEPS like.

We also know that as Vivi said Alma's brother died. That was a photo she was looking at of him when she was crying on the Dia de los Muertos.

Thanks, Pablo! I was thinking the same thing about the therapist fees...it's Marisela's dream job! (aside from her real dream of having a rich daddy and not having to work). Heck, I think I might even listen to Vero rant for that kind of cash. Oh, wait, I do it for free.

Discua as possibly reincarnated brother?! Just like in Ugly Betty! Now that would be saucy. I wonder if Alma's brother had an eye tic. Discua does tend to overdo the femininity, as persons who have not always been women/girls are sometimes prone to do.

Looks like the great new job at Orion is a bust already, between their abysmal ethics and Chulo's constant stream of shrieky visitors and callers. I wish he would straighten things out with Xochi. She is unbearable.

I appreciated the total incompetence of the vile henchmen. What idiots. Like that poor housekeeper was really going to check the bags. They could have said it was all the jewelry and silver from the house and she probably would have let them take it, just to be rid of them. Anyway, I was very sad yesterday and they made me laugh, so kudos to them.

More sadness?? :-(

My cousin suicided yesterday. Muy :-(.

But back to the silly show...so Ricardo is suspicious of Marisela! I wonder how long it will take him to find out her real address? Is that really confidential information? In my company, employee addresses and phone numbers are in a database that any employee can look at.

Julia, so sorry to hear about your cousin and glad our silly show made you laugh. Praying for you.

Pablo, thanks for another great recap and the preview heads-up. Though I know its too early for Chucho to kiss Alma like that, I may have let myself get deceived without your warning.

This speculation on Discua is hilarious!

I, for one, hope that the kiss is real but that Rogue and Paticakes don't actually see it!

Thanks, Karen.

Oh, that is so sad, Julia. I'm so sorry.

I haven't seen a published list of employee addresses at any place I've worked in years. I guess a company isn't required by law to keep it secret from other employees, but some employees could abuse their access to this information. (When I was in college, a couple of RAs were fired for selling student names and addresses to marketing mailing lists. And a former employer of mine stopped publishing employee addresses some years ago when there was a problem with one employee stalking another.)

If that kiss isn't real, then whose daydream will it be? Chucho's? Alma's? Or Rogue's overactive imagination?

Regarding Rogue's attachment to Alma, when discussing her with Fern or Paty he always emphasizes that she will be the mother of his children. Why is he so hot for her DNA??

Julia- Well if our silly little show managed to put a smile on your face after such a tragedy, then bien hecho-- it's earned my respect. We'll also do our best to keep you smiling, amiga.

Julie- Maybe he wants tall children? :)

Maybe he wants to get his claws on the trust funds/inheritance he thinks they will get from Alma's father?

Julie:

So sorry to hear bout your cousin. I am praying for you also, and I too am glad this show made you laugh.

I meant Julia not Julie : )

Julia: So sorry to hear about your cousin.

Nanette

Oh Julia...I am so sorry to hear about your cousin. Sometimes we have no idea what people we love are suffering. And Spring seems to be laughing at our sorrows, with its abundance of beauty and new life spilling over.

I always think of that line from the poem "April is the cruelest month..." We've managed to get through the toughness of Winter and then our heart comes to life again and we are so very very sad.

And sometimes chronic depression is just something that overwhelms those we love and they can't accept our caring and help.

Keeping you in my thoughts and my heart, dear one. You are bright and caring and always lift my spirits with your funny, insightful comments. Blessings and love to you...and healing...

Thanks, everyone. It was quite a shock. He was only about 20, I think.

I'm sorry for your losses, too, Judy. It does seem somehow twisted for people to die right as our environment is coming to life and looking cheerier.

Julia, I'm so very sorry to hear about your cousin. How tragic and sad for you and your family. You are definitely in my thoughts and prayers.

So sorry Julia. Thank goodness we have some silliness to ease the sadness of real life.

Thanks for your wonderful recap, Pablo. You have provoked so many good discussion items with your vocabulary lessons each week.

I actually thought the Marisela kiss was passionate, at least for her. She sure was dreamy in the coffee/break room as she replayed the moment. With her penchant for swallowing feelings, it seems that was extreme warmth for her. But then everything is relative.

I can't wait to see what is behind the wink, wink on Discua. She is too pure to be true so it gives us time to speculate about so many things while she winks away. She is good in a cat fight however...

I too am sorry for your saddness, Julia. I am glad you could take the telenovela warm blanket and share here with people that care about you.

Writers, please, please, please ... pretty please with a cherry on top ... GET RID OF XOCHITL!! Or at least calm her down. She's not funny any more.
