PEAM #36 - 04/29/13 - Sleep, Sueño and Confusion Meet Winken, Blinken and Nod

First The parole lady flexes her muscles, Valentina finally calls her Papa Jesus to get a ride to school since Mom has lapsed back into depression sleep. She is also worried about an exam in math which her sleeping Mom is not a math genius among other qualities. Jesus borrows the truck from the depression sleeper named Elias in his apartment.

Maricela makes us sorry that Chatita has taken her in but in her sleepy (not depressed but forgetful) state takes a broom stick to the Maricela but figures out that she knows her.  As Maricela starts her soy de pura raza bit, Chatita has a clearing of the memory cobwebs and reminds Mari that her papa is a garbage man.  Mari tries to convince Chatita of her cloudiness but Chatita holds to her memories of what her father sacrificed to send her to school after her mother disappeared (died, do we know).  Maricela gets on her high horse several times but Chatita reminds her that isn't it odd that Maricela left her home, her loving father and here she is begging a sleeping place from the very good friend of this dear papa. Maricela is not scoring high on the fooling any of the people any of the time scale.

Chucho arrives to learn that Veronica is asleep and he sees the sleeping pills by her bedside so makes her drink water then takes Valentina who notices they are going in Papa Elias truck to school.  Chucho is a saint of good humor taking the beloved child to school and making her feel like nothing at all is wrong.

Moments later, the meat and gluten laden Elias awakens and stumbles out of the door way to discover that his truck has disappeared.

Alma calls a sleepy headed Rogelio to remind him they need to get into the office.  He seems amazed that she is not sleeping with anyone.

Chucho takes Valentina into school and they receive the great news from V's classmates that the dreaded math exam has been postponed.  Chucho gets her to see the day is looking better already. He will need that optimism himself in 10 minutes. I hope Chucho and Valentina get a chance to study math together soon, Valentina deserves to have at least one out of her three parents functioning at adult levels and neither drunk, drugged nor shrieking.

Chucho drives Elias' SUV looking for a place to leave it for Elias or just park it.  Well of course the police who have the story of car theft from the fuzzy-brained Elias, spot said hot car and pull Chucho over.  Chucho somehow eludes the arrest and makes a beeline for the commission of cosmetics to place the registration materials in the lovely hands of the receptionist with nearly one minute to go before the Eight o'clock deadline.  The keystone traffic cops slide into the lobby just after he delivers as promised to in turn deliver the news to their chief that they have their ladrone in front of them: HIM!!  The famous big dark eyes roll with resignation. Mine are merely blue/gray but they are rolling too.

Chucho is put into handcuffs and fends off stupid cops and fawning receptionists while he explains that Elias didn't exactly object to him taking the car to take Valentina to school but merely grunted vaguely so Chucho took this as permission.  On shortwave radio phone, Chucho and Elias discover what has happened and the police force is free to save someone else from robbery and ruin.  Chucho isn't completely free, he must have powerful pheromones that give the receptionist a need to stroke him thoughtfully when he asks to borrow her phone.  However, my worst fears are met that Chucho calls the office and gets the queen of fawning, Xochi who thinks she is getting a call from her NOVIO.  Sheeeshhh, when is he going to take charge of this most irritating of situations.  He does at least ask to speak to Alma so he can tell her the great news that he got their paperwork filed just in time to qualify. Alma hands him back to "his novia".  As usual he has to ask who that is, and then feebly says oh, yeah, that…"   The accommodating receptionist takes her phone back in exchange for some stroking of his wrists and fingers and purrs, coocaroo cachoo, or how do you spell those lyrics from the wonderful song that sound so simpering in the mouth of Xochi and of the ready and eager receptionist.

PatiCake arrives at Fernado's all irritated that he isn't ready to foil Alma so she can get herself closer to Rogie.  He is so preoccupied that he can't lower himself to schemes any longer when he is now dedicated to finding the LUZ   hmmmmm, as he calls her sister-in-law number TWO.  TWO she shrieks!

Pati can't believe that Fernando doesn't hate Alma but he insists that he does not hate Alma and he wants Pati to "butt" out, so to speak.  He sighs, "spirituality" as she clicks her little heels down the hall.

Rogelio show up in Alma's office which she can't figure out.  He wants to work on the invitations to the wedding. This surprises her and me too. She is glad of the help since the guests will all be his friends.  She can count her friends to be invited on her fingers and Chucho is one of them.  Rogelio takes this with a dash of stomach acid according to his facial expression. Why would you count HIM as a friend? asks Clueless.  Alma sighs and says, well he is intelligent, honest, always prepared…. does this fall like Greek on a goat's ears?

Chucho counsels the still cloudy Elias then tells him that Veronica was not able to awaken and take Valentina to school.  He advises Elias to take notice of Veronica's bad state and try to help her out for the sake of "their daughter".

Fernando arrives in the office with kisses and compliments to all especially the winking, blinking Descua. Jessica tries to threaten Descua but the spiritual light of the office merely excuses herself to deliver a meditation disk to Fernando.  They have sweet words about spiritual light and he calls her his teacher. He has a new pathway toward the light...

Chucho barely has time to address the lesson of the day in cooking the books with his work companions when Veronica turns up in Harpy mode denying any responsibility for Valentina's morning of fear which was saved only by Chucho. She gets shrill, laying blame on all around her. Maybe some more sleep would help?

Alma gets a shock in the "it's about time" appearance of her PAPA in a wrist watch that costs more than most people earn in a year, I assume he was otherwise perfectly dressed.  Doña Susana obsequiously brings in coffee, remembering exactly how he likes it and letting it be known that she is totally at his service…

Rogelio interrupts Fernando's reverie to vent his anxiety over Chucho and Alma's friendship. He is dismissive of his brother's reverie and tells him he is always stupid but this stupidity tops all.

Veronica has no class apparently as she throws a complete hissy in the new office at top shrillness. (Maricela, Xochi and Veronica need to take elocution lessons in modulating their most unpleasant voices)  Chucho reminds her that what Valentina needs is love, affection and stability which Veronica is not providing when she is busy popping sleeping pills like they were palomitas.

Tomorrow: The new sillies in Chucho's new office begin to make demands of him wearing a uniform and following their orders by tomorrow.  The long, lost Papa of Alma has some sticky business past with Rogelio and doesn't want Alma to know everything. Spirituality and the winking Descua are everywhere...

Thanks for this great snappy recap, love your title especially the Winken, Blinken and Nod part. I haven't heard that poem and song in a long time.

I like the actor that is playing Sebastian, Alma's Papa. He is great here. Remember we speculated on who might be Susanna's old love. I think it is him. They exchanged some knowing looks....Hmmm.

I so love Chatita. I'd love to adopt her. She is so sweet with the advice and how she talks to people. I like that she tells it like it is, especially with Elias and Maricela. Maricela needs a mother figure to show her what she is doing wrong.

I think Maricela's Mama deserted the family. I don't know for sure if she died.

Wow, Ferny has sure changed over night, so to speak. I kind of like him this way. He was very nice to all the ladies when he came into work. I liked the way Discua talked to Jess too. This time she didn't let Jess egg her on.

Patymelt sure was mad. I liked how she almost stuck her foot in it, when she and Alma were working out and Patymelt asked about her working evening with Chucho and Alma wanted to know how she knew, too funny.

Poor Chucho all those women fawning and pawing him. It was funny when the receptionist at the Camera did it, lol. He also can't get any work done with Vero screaming at him at work. She needs therapy like yesterday already. And where was Minerva the Nanny? She is usually with Valentina. I feel so bad for that little girl. I want her to have a stable life, the poor little thing.

Elias needs to grow up too. He spent all that time with Valentina and now he ignores her. What is up with that? She loves him as much as her own Papa Chucho. Elias needs to man up.

What a fun read Cheryl. That receptionist was cracking me up, making the most of her tiny role. She was like a tamer version of Paty.

I'm glad to see Chucho is starting to get tough with Vero. She and Elias need to snap out of it already! They have a kid to think about. And I really wish Chucho would remind her that he never paid child support for 6 years, because SHE never told him he had a child to support! Gah!

Nice to see "Cayetano" (Amor Bravio) pop up as Alma's papa. Looks like he'll be making plenty of parental blunders here too. Who would want their daughter to marry Rogue?

At this rate of 2 hours of real time per episode, the TN will end in aprox. 10 days, and we won't get to see Alma's wedding!

This is Nov. 6th (7:30-10:30am)

I didn't know that Paletas payaso, besides making chcolate covered marshamallow lollipops now made scarfs!! What a great idea, from candy to clothes in the same sweatshop!! I hope Valentina is getting a second check for advetising.

This time Discua only showed up to promote her Church CD with ''reiki'' music and didn't wink much. Maybe something happened inside her head the day of the fight? Maybe the winking is slowly fading away?

Vocabulary:

Tiliches- odds and ends
Aplástate- very colloquial way to say ''seat down'', somewhat like ''put them down''.

Tks mucho Cheryl,

You never know what craziness is going to happen.

At least Alma's padre doesn't have to worry about getting poisoned. He even looks better than he did in AB.

Thanks so much, Cheryl. Good title. Yes sleeping over and sleeping late sure is a theme for this episode.

Vero had her nerve visiting Jésus in the office and causing such a scene. I didn't like that Jésus was left penniless by the confrontation.

I enjoyed Fer's transformation. I don't suppose that it can last but I loved the peaceful way he let Rogelio's comments roll off his back. And I agree that Discua was wonderful in dealing with Jessica.

Marisela and Chatita -- that's going to be interesting to watch.

And of course the stolen car mixup was predictable, silly and yet fun to watch.

Wonder what's really up with Alma's dad. Hmmm ....

Güera

Thank you, Cheryl
This was a predictable episode particularly with the Elias' truck. Rogue and Vero need a little of the "light" that is shining on Ferny.

Thanks, Cheryl, I missed last nights episode.

Jarifa

Thanks, Cheryl! Very amusing and great title.

I am still agog that Rogue and Alma (well, mostly Alma; we know Rogue doesn't do anything) left finishing the entry and delivering it to the Camera up to Jesus. He doesn't even work for them anymore! They could have at least taken responsibility for getting it there! Didn't Alma even want to look at it before it was submitted?!

It did make for some wacky fun. I loved the bit where they kept saying "cambio" playing with the police radios and then the cop said to Elias, "thank you for wasting our time, cambio y fuera" as he left.

I loved that Chatita had a lucid spell and let MariContrari know that she's onto her. I hope she can straighten her out.

Thanks, Cheryl. I was so frustrated last night waiting for Elias to wake up and report his car as stolen. Argh. I know Chucho hasn't bought a lot of stuff for the apartment, but he ought to have a pen and some paper. Leave the guy a note next time!!

So, do we think Susana and Alma's dad had a thing, long ago? Or was it only ever an unrequited crush? The way they were looking at one another, I have a feeling they never actually had an affair - because if they had, wouldn't last night have been chillier and more awkward?

Has Chucho said anything yet about getting a real apartment - one that he can pay for so that he ddoesn't come home one day and find it cleaned out and locked up by the bank? I'm asking because 1) it would be inconvenient to lose the bed that Alma donated for Valentina, 2) Chucho can afford a place now (assuming Orion doesn't fire him soon), and 3) Xochi and Mari could live there for a while as long as they don't leave any valuables there in case the bank takes it back.

But it could all be moot if Chucho gets fired from Orion and has to go back to Avon (or be unemployed). Julia, you're not the only one who was shocked that Alma didn't take their documents to the Camera herself. For one thing, she's an actual employee. (An executive, in fact.) For another, SHE HAS A CAR. And for a third, it wouldn't kill her to skip the gym for ONE morning given that each visit to the gym lately has included a nagging interrogation from Paty.

Last but not least, Vero gave up her claim on any kind of moral superiority over Chucho when she knocked herself out on goofballs, leaving her child to fend for herself. (And where the hell was Minerva?)

Thanks for the recap Cheryl. We'll all be celebrating when Chucho finally tells Xochi they are not novios; this plot needs to end with a quickness.

Mads - Yes, Elias needs to man-up and take care of his daughter.

Vivi - I too got a kick out of the receptionist.

Pablo - thanks for the vocab.

I just want Vero to go away. Her rants are repetitive and tiresome. And as Julie noted, where on earth is Minerva?

Just saw Pablo's comment about Discua losing her winking tic in the fight with Jessica. LOL!!

Thanks so much for the recap Cheryl...love your style.

"Parole lady flexes her musles"

"Rogelio takes this with a dash of stomach acid".

Mmmm..delicious.

I had a blast last night watching Fernando go all mellow, spiritual and heading for the Light. Laughed my head off. I have a New Age husband and I deal with this all the time. Alas, I sometimes react like Patimelt!

What I love about this comedy is Chucho gets out of trouble every time. Of course he ends up heading for more trouble every time. But "asi es".

Thanks for the vocab, Pablo. I love the world "tiliches". I've heard it before, but the repetition is so essential for it to stick in my old brain. I sure am getting a workout with "tocayo"!

thanks for checking in, all. Pablo, they wouldn't' really make us miss a wedding! That would be against telenovela law.

This seemed like a transitional episode to get Papa with the Rolex into the scene. He should be fun with Rogelio. I can't believe he will push his lovely daughter into harm's way just to do some horrible crooked financing deals.

Judy , love the Fernando link to your husband. I like this Fernando better. We'll see if he stays with Discua. He will have to marry her to get any closer.

Chatita may be the only one to bring Marisela off her self constructed pedestal.

Yes, and after she straightens out Marisela, let's hope she has a serious talk with our over-the-top Xochi. Please!

Cheryl--I couldn't watch last night's episode, so I thank you and appreciate the wonderful recap. It helps, of course by now, to know all the characters and their personalities. It makes it easier to laugh along with the rest of you.

So Fernando has seen the light and is a convert. Wait til he sees how much work it is to be a convert!

So Papa has a gold watch. What else does he have? Something Susana wants?

Yes, I desperately hope Xochi gets a clue soon. If she does that cuckochoo thing again tonight, I may feel obligated to make a snide remark about it in my recap.

As for Fernando's transformation, I'm still waiting for Discua to ask him to make a hefty donation to her church. I think she knows what she's doing and she's probably done it before! ;-)

Cheryl, thank you so much, this was hilarious!!!

So many good lines…

- Maricela is not scoring high on the fooling any of the people any of the time scale.
- Valentina deserves to have at least one out of her three parents…neither drunk, drugged nor shrieking.
- Fernando…insists that he does not hate Alma and he wants Pati to "butt" out, so to speak.
- [Rogelio] wants to work on the invitations to the wedding. This surprises her and me too.
- [Veronica] gets shrill, laying blame on all around her. Maybe some more sleep would help?
