Porque el Amor Manda #35: Spying Eyes Get a Surprise, the Puppy Fetches Popcorn, and Everybody Goes to Chatita's
Meanwhile, Discua's down at the chapel giving a dreamy sermonette to her brothers and sisters in the light. They’re all dressed in identical robes, but you can tell she’s in charge because she’s wearing the sacred shocking pink lipstick. Afterward the whole crowd breaks into a little song-and-dance number that has Fernando completely flummoxed. Dude can’t keep the beat to save his life, which doesn’t bode well for his other physical talents. But somehow he seems to have joined the congregation simply by showing up, and Discua insists the he produce some inspirational words. He babbles some nonsense that’s apparently close enough, and Discua tells him they might actually have un futuro, him being so full of light and radiance and stuff. Well, he’s full of something. Group hug for Fer!
Ricardo ferries the girls back to Xochi's place in his incredible backfiring car and manages to steal another kiss from Mari on his way out. Just as we think the princesa has a place to lay her head, in comes Xochi's Mom, who has just lost at bingo and is ready to eat a baby. NO, she is NOT having a houseguest, ESPECIALLY one who talks like she has a bottle-stopper in her mouth, and WHERE ARE HER FREAKIN PALOMITAS? Xoch flees in panic and comes back with a giant bowl of popcorn from the bin of harpy-chow she keeps in the kitchen. It’s amazing that poor kid doesn’t have more tics than Discua.
Xochi summons Taxi-Taxi-Bang-Bang and tells Ricardo they're taking Mari to stay with Jesús, which is wildly inappropriate even for a TN. But let’s just roll with it, since we know Jesús isn't home anyway. Chatita hears them all banging on the door and interrupts her therapy session with Elías to invite them in for sandwiches.
Zing! Cara impactada de Maricela at the sight of delicious Elías. Cara muy impactada de Ricardo at the sight of cara impactada de Maricela. (Is there a bingo square for Love Triangle? Oh wait, that would be like having one for People Breathing Air.) Elías doesn’t seem to be feeling it, but when Mari inquires about his marital status he tells her he’s separated. Apparently all you need for a legal separation in Nuevo León is a couple roast goats. Who knew?
Jesús arrives home and Xochi continues to fling herself at him like an animal shelter puppy. Doesn’t he know the first thing you need to teach them is not to jump up? Next she’ll be following him to the bathroom and whining outside the door. Clearly she wants to spend the night, but Elías needs a man-date with Chuch, so they arrange to talk on the way back from driving Xochi home. Down, girl. Sit. Stay.
In other news:
- Elías seems to kind of like the hourglass-shaped doc.
- Val and her Mega-Teddy catch Vero talking in her sleep about Jesús.
- The tough-faced lady from La Ley interrogates Ury at the prison, but all she gets is threats.
Avances: Jesús is arrested! Or maybe he just meets a couple burly guys with handcuffs!
Labels: Manda
What a wonderful, crisp recap. My favorite lines were:
Sacred Pink lipstick
Ferny is full of something.
This epi was a hoot from start to finish. Patymelt is so bad, but so funny. I liked when she was trying to sneak out of Avon as Chucho was leaving and she was hiding behind everything she could, while he looked around, too funny!
No wonder poor Xochi is the way she is. Her Mama is a real beyotch but liked the way she imitated Mari.
Has Ferny seen the light? You are right that guy cannot keep the beat. I liked the group hug they gave me at the end, he just didn't know what to do, lol.
It's funny how everyone ends up at Chatita's. Did Chatita say she knew Mari from somewhere? This should be interesting with Chatita and Mari. Mari sure was struck by Elias. Poor Ricardo, but I do like that second kiss he stole from Mari.
Another nice moment with Vero and Valentina. I had to laugh when Vero was talking about Chucho in her sleep. That dream she had was cute too. I wonder if that was a hippie flashback to their past? I liked that finally Vero is cuddling up to Valentina. Vero didn't even object to that huge bear being in the bedroom.
Chucho and Alma were too cute working late at the office and loved how Rog was sweating the whole time they were together. Rog was too funny listening outside the door. The facial expressions, lol.
I like this police investigator. She didn't back down from Yuri one bit. She didn't even flinch. And now Chucho knows that Yuri is in Monterrey!
And thanks God next Monday will be a new day!
Where does Pati put her phone when she is driving? I saw her sticking her finger somewhere down there to end a conversation!
Why does Pati likes studs so much (am talking about the dress)?
Patricia Zorrilla will be my Delia Ibarra (PALABRA DE MUJER). I think she is going to steal the TN from everybody else with that wacky character. She shines more every day.
When I saw Valentina watching EL CHAVO ANIMADO understood why the ''chavismos'' like the finger movement (eso, eso, eso) and so on... someone here likes, or tries to pay tribute to Don Roberto Gómez Bolaños.
If Ricardo is not whitening, he's yellowing! I would think twice before putting my mouth close to his!
Marisela is going to have to smart up because Elías is very smart and asks questions nobody does... she could get tangled in her lies...
I mean, Elías has travelled around the globe and back and she can trick anybody who hasn't with her ''Canada/Paris whatever'' stories, but not him...
I would love to go to Discua's place of worship (couldn't say Church, even when they have a cross the size of a wall) but I am sure I will be denied, did you see only pretty people there? I am sure during ''some ceremonies'' the girls use their hoodies...
I didn't like a bit that scene where Alma and Jesús are eating pizza (WITH RED WINE!!!) and Rogelio is hearing behind the door a lot better than if he was inside with them, something that he is misinterpreting... so unnecessary!
Vocabulary:
On'toy (contraction from donde estoy) -where am I
Quedarse para vestir santos (stay single, like an old maid)
Inocente palomita (innocent dove)- We celebrate the equivalent to april fool's day in December 28th. and people do pranks and jokes, if you fall for them, you are ''inocente palomita que te dejaste engañar'' or an innocent dove that just got punk'd so to speak.
Limosnera con garrote- Beggers can't be choosers, is similar to Bald and with lice (pelona y con piojos).
I am sure this handcuff thing is ''another dream'' or something that in the end is not what we think!
wink-o-meter low (less than 5)
I also laughed heartily at Taxi-Taxi-Bang-Bang. And ITA with Blue Lass and Pablo that Pati is a hoot and a half and is stealing the show.
A belated feliz cumpleaños to Anita! Glad you enjoyed your day, amiga.
Madeleine, Chatita knows Marisela's dad so it stands to reason she knows Marisela too. Anyway, it looks like EVERYBODY may be ending up at Chatita's which would be hilarious.
I really like the actress who plays Xochi's mom, but man oh man she sure can play the harpy, no?
Totally agree with Madeleine that poor annoying Xotchi is the way she is because of her Mom....Xotchi needs to get some distance but not at poor Jesus's expense.
Wine in wine glasses with pizza at the office....I'm there!
The little actress did a nice job of imitating her mom dreaming about Jesus in her sleep.
Agree with Mad...the police investigator chick is well cast. She 's a smart ball buster and needs to be in her line of work. Glad she appears to be on Jesus's side.
I hope Pablo is right and the handcuffing of Jesus is a dream. Don't want to see him in the same jail as Yuri given that Yuri is in town now.
It will be interesting to see how long it will take for Discua to figure out Fernando's charade....he is on his good behavior for one episode but I don't think he can go the distance. Gertie
Madelaine, I agree that now we know know partially why Xochi is like she is with a mother like that. Poor Valentina hearing her mom murmuring "Jesús, mi amor." The kid doesn't neeed anything else to wonder about. Fernando got plenty of affection at the "church"; just not the kind he wanted.
Jarifa
{project} "I don't really know what it is and I don't think they care" (my kind of recap.. business talk of any sort puts me into brain freeze)
"sacred shocking pink lipstick" (yes, her lips were riveting, to
say the least)
"ready to eat a baby" (good grief, what a description...but right on)
"bin of harpy chow" (inspired, what can I say?)
Taxi Taxi Bang Bang (again, inspired)
and of course all the other gems people mentioned.
And Pablo, thanks as always, not just for vocabulary but for that rich cultural info that we wouldn't have otherwise. I've never traveled to Mexico or a Latin American country and never will at this point in my life, but you're enriching my understanding with every recap. Thanks!
" Is there a bingo square for Love Triangle? Oh wait, that would be like having one for People Breathing Air". But there must be one for "over bearing, mean-spirited mother who claims to be over religious." We seem to always get those. Xochi is annoying, but she doesn't deserve that for a mother. (Though she made a brilliant point about Mari's voice).Except for Chatita, mothers are doing so well in this TN.
I have to say, last night was the first time I laughed out loud during this TN. Fern's attempt to dance at the Church was so horribly wrong, but lord love him, I think he was actually trying. Something tells me he wasn't play acting some of his time there and he seemed less leering at when Discua said they may have a chance. The crook is getting soft.
Chatita knows Mari's dad, so I'm thinking she must have met Mari once before or knows of her from her dad. But with her memory as it is, she didn't place her right away.
Can we give Val an award for "best imitation ever"??? Her aping of her mother while dreaming had me spitting coffee. Outstanding!!
Please don't make the Mari mooning over Elias anything going forward. I couldn't take it. Man has enough on his plate.
Is the guy in prison Chatita's son? He sure resembles the guy in her picture. I may have to go back to that episode and check out to be sure.

The unimportant all-nighter Jesus and Alma were pulling was to do a better job and beat the cheating enemy, Orion, to get the Good Make-up Sign of Approval from the Camera.
I guess at Discua's place of worship, everybody learns to dance and turns beautiful.
Pablo--The red wine with pizza. Are you suggesting it should have been white wine instead?
Loved the Taxi-Taxi-Bang-Bang and Xoxchti as a pound puppy who needs to learn not to jump up--down girl, sit, stay. I guess now we're all supposed to feel guilty about criticising her so, when the poor thing has had no maternal upbringing to speak of.
"Pati...even furnishes voices for the silent movie." Ms. Camargo is definitely ready for prime time--oh, right, this is prime time. Anyway, she's pouring all her talent into this role. She's great. ITA..."a hoot and a half."
Vero allows Vale to bring the teddy bear close, as long as it's not touching her face--a little residual control-freakanomics is still in play.
Pablo--Re limosnera con garrote. Please give us the literal translation. I found two meanings, a garrotte (duh) used to strangle someone; the other one, interestingly is a basket or pannier. Which is the correct interpretation in this context or is it neither?
Limosnero y con garrote translates literally as Beggar with a stick. Here is used as Beggars can not be choosers. The beggar ask for something but then hits with a stick when that something is what he doesn't like. In other words: Ungrateful ba**rd!
And I'm glad the red wine remark was cleared up. I was thinking: is Pablo a pizza and beer guy? Actually I prefer coke with pizza as well. Red wine goes great though with a steak (happy memories of pre-vegetarian days)
I also raised an eyebrow at Pablo's red wine comment because I LOVE red wine with pizza. Mainly because I don't always like the pizza part of the equation so much. Generally it's not my favorite food but Mr. Sharkbait loves it so there you go.
Daisy, the guy in prison as Chatita's son? Hmmm...interesting thought.
The Incans were very religious, and lived in South America... Maybe Discua will reveal herself as the Incan Goddess.
Oh yeah, the skirt Alma's been wearing may point to her Mayan roots... you think? (whoever is dressing her, need to be fired.)
Anon#1
When they say someone died a long time ago in a novella....it doesn't mean a thing unless there is are specifics....like he died in my arms...or a definitive flashback. Yuri may have taken a detour to Russia after his supposed death....for all we know.....but there is a very remote chance of this. We need to get Chatita plowed on some Rompompe . Gertie
Pablo - thanks for the vocab and cultural info. And ITA that Mari won't be able to keep lying w/Elias. Hopefully after Vero he can see obnoxious high maintenance women before they try to get him and his fineness.
While anything is possible in a TN, I can't wish Yuri on Chatita.
ITA with those who got a huge kick out of Valentina imitating her mama's sleeptalking. I find I either love or hate the TN kids -- this one's a keeper.

Blue- I loved this recap. I haven't had a chance to watch my recordings of any of the Friday shows yet. Will try to do so today.
Jack has told his mother "he's so glad God made him a boy" so that he can marry the lovely Miss Emma.
Evidently, part of her captivating charm is that when Jack does something goofy, she giggles and claps and says "Jack, you're so funny". Whereas the boys, well they just try to outdo him with something even wilder.
The secret of feminine charm...appreciate and validate, rather than compete. In goofiness anyway.
Patymelt is the absolute best. I find myself wishing she'd get a truly great fellow and put the awful Rogue out of her ind completely. I can't remember where I've seen her before but have seen her on another favorite and she is just marvelous.
I loved the easy and free give-and take displayed in Chucho and Alma's relationship.....so convincing.
Am liking this novella alot!
They are both painfully aware, Churcho more than Alma, that each see each other as promised to someone else. This is a big obstacle to overcome by two people who are as principled as these two.
I guess their reticence allows all the other sillies and the side stories to move ahead while they are stuck with giving each other piercing, longing glances and hand porn (not my original phrase--did that come from LQNPA or is it older than that?).
I'm working on the producers' novelographies and will have something to post before midnight. It'll be tagged under Las Proximas, if any one is interested.
Xochi's mother is a piece of work, but a good reality check for Marisela. If Marisela would quit being such a snob, I wouldn't mind her.
Fern trying to roll with the children of light was pretty funny.
Chatita just needs to open a 24 hour cafe, child care, and counseling service.
La Paloma
Without a doubt, Mari has won the prize for the WORST house of all the Avon workers. Still doesn't give her a right to ask like such a jerk. I think I would actually be fine with her rich girl act, if she were nicer and more respectful to people and their homes/cars/economic status. I was happy that Xochi's mom kicked her out, and had a big laugh at her imitation of Mari. LOL!
Mari's dad has probably shown Chatita pictures of Mari and that's what she's sort of remembering.
I do understand Xochi's desperation for a boyfriend now, but I still need her to tone it down a few notches.
Fernando and Pati were both hilarious this episode.
Needed this funny show, recap, comments to distract me. Lost my beloved cat, Neo Friday night. I don't have children, so he was my baby. I know you pet lovers will understand how heartbroken I am. Sorry to be such a downer. Blame it on my grief.
Nanette
We have a lovely little Burmese, Kizzie, that we adopted after her owners developed cancer. When she goes, I'll be here, looking for sympathy and understanding, believe me.
There's nothing like the unconditional love of a pet. What we're all looking for, and what we only seem to get from this trusting, devoted four-legged creatures, whether dogs or cats.
The worst of it is I had to watch him die a horrible death. He went so sudden (heart failure) and I realized too late that I needed to get him to the vet--not to save him, he was going to die anyway-- but so he wouldn't have to suffer. So I have this horrible guilt on top of my having my last memories of him dying. I'm not even at the point of mourning his being gone, I'm still grieving at how he went.
I do have another cat, Julie. She's sweet and I love her. But Neo was so special. This sounds corny--but you have to remember I'm a movie person and hear a lot of corny--he was the love of my life and the light of my heart.
Thank you all for being such great friends. I am honored to be part of the Caray Caray family.
Sorry for highjacking the blog. And thank you all for your kind words. It really does help.

Blanca Guerra's argument with Christian de la Fuente was pathetic. I couldn't care less who was nominated or winning, even Paty Christmas got up way before they said her name. Wasn't this fixed?
They made jokes about women's age, age limits to be first actress, etc.
What brings me to another joke. A friend of mine used to say that nowaday ''First actresses'' were the ones who arrived first to the set and the first ones leaving when done...
It was entertaining, but sad. Lucero lip-synched and Juan Gabriel didn't (and even when people forgive him the lack of voice, I think it was not fair)
Anita put up a great post on "Proximas" on producers and their tns. That may be a good place to continue any Premios talk without hijacking this space.
Susanlynn, a belated Happy Birthday to you! So nice to see you pop in and so fun to hear about your Miss Lily.
Vivi, thanks for the Premios update.
Currently I do not have very good internet access so I will likely be a bit "absent".
More birthdays! Hope they were happy!
Regarding pizza and red wine - I like red wine with almost anything, but I also like pizza with almost anything. (Especially grape juice or grape soda. Or Coke. Or beer.) A "gourmet" pizza is especially good with red wine. And sometimes a little red wine makes a bad pizza bearable...
Yuri's accent cracks me up. I can't honestly say it's any worse than mine, but it isn't much better. I remember this guy was a bouncer at parties in a few episodes of Familia.
Xochi is quite the puzzle. I've wondered how such a timid girl could suddenly become so pushy and aggressive. I can see now how her mother is motivating some of her desperation, but at the same time you would think that that same desperation would have caused her to throw herself at some easier target by now. Ah well. That's why we have our beanies...
After I said goodbye to my Sweet Polly, I actually did a recap that night. It was difficult, but I needed to think about something else for a while. The humor of the episode and the warm support of all my Caray buddies was very therapeutic.
Though I know all of you who have lost animal family, whether you have a houseful of kids/grandkids or not, feel the deepest grief also.
Thank you all for sharing your stories.
