PEAM #46, 05/13/13 - "Jesús' Wild Ride? or Rogelio's Walk on the Wild Side?

Amigos de PEAM, I apologize for poor planning but I must go to a high school graduation for a first cousin twice removed who is the last blood relative I can recognize for her great accomplishments in high school. Hurray for Kayla.  But back to the subject matter, my recording devices are all malfunctioning and I cannot see the capitulo tonight so please discuss at will.  If any kind soul posts highlights, I will copy them here into the body of the post later tonight.  Saludos, Cheryl y Willa
Here is Willa with her best friend Cisco, She is always the poser.

Thanks to Pablo Villalobos for the following succinct recap he shared in tonight's comments:
"Well... what can I say... it's still nov the 7th from 6 to 9 pm aprox, so no Discua or stooges since everybody should be in their homes already.

Jesús goes to meet XóchiTL's mother, then runs to talk to Alma and then runs to see Valentina. He didn't have time to drink the coffe his ''girl-friend'' prepared.

Then Pánfilo shows up at Chatita's to make a quick FAMSA commercial and also leaves without drinking whatever Chatita had to offer.

Patricia makes a very huge deal after seeing Rogelio with Jessiquita and her whip, have a tantrum and breaks several things, takes the video home and then sends it to Rogelio to ''negotiate'' their relationship status.

Marisela kisses Elías, Martha visits Valentina and meets the ''famous'' Jesús, and probably spends the night there. I can almost see Verónica licking her lips in advance!!

Not much, nothing really interesting... ;-(  "

Cheryl you are right; Willa is quite the poser. Clearly she knows she's photogenic.

Pablo thanks for the recap. I liked your description of yourself and this show over on the CI thread... you keep coming back in spite of the ridiculousness. Fear not as most of us do the same. We enjoy our community here so much we put of with a lot ;)

Poor Alma must know Rog is being coached on these gifts. The life-sized bunny delivery was funny and much too cute for Rog.

Fernando was hilarious when telling Pati to look to the light. While Pati is often funny, I can't think too hard about her character as she is villain. Her outrage at Rog (quite a bit of fun) drips with irony based on her betrayal of her BFF. If this weren't a comedy, Patimelt would have killed Jessica and possibly Rog last night.

I have to admit I may be the only one who enjoys Alma (and blame the director for the actress's short-comings). Most of the other characters are so over the top and annoying I just view her scenes as a moment of sanity.

Cheryl- Congrats to Kayla! Hope you had fun with the family. I saw this pic of Willa on Facebook. Of course she is going to be great at posing for pics, with a photographer for a mama!

Karen- I just left a comment in response to yours on "Proximas".

Cheryl:

Hope you had a great time with Kayla and congrats to her! Love you dog Willa she is a beauty. Agree with what Vivi said about her being photogenic : )

I agree with Karen about Alma. She is the only point of sanity here.

I did like Patymelt's meltdown against Rogue. It was over the top, but he's got to know that he can't be screwing her around. I just knew Jess was doing this to get a better job.

Wow, Barbara, Xochi's Mama sure had it bad for Chucho. I laughed at her faces.

I too think Chucho will end up spending the night at Vero's. I hope he stays near Valentina's room.

I thought Maricela moved too fast. Poor Elias. I'm glad Chatita reminded her that Elias is still married, but the way Maricela said for not much longer, she is going to go for him, not good.

So how long will it take Patymelt to send that video to Alma? She sure is going to use it to blackmail Rogue for everything she can get out of him.

Thanks Pablo, As you can see, I have posted your comments to the front page and changed the title to be more fun.

Karen, I quite like Alma's serenity amidst the chaos too. The actress is lovely to look at and very kind and sane. The kind and sane part are not very common when said together about any of the roles on this TN.

Vivi, Thanks I am so glad I showed up for Kayla's big moment, I think it meant a lot to her and to her parents so was worth missing a night of FC. But it sounds like he is still being mealy mouthed about who and what he wants so it's okay to miss an episode.

Ahh, Madelaine, It looks like our comments just missed each other flying through the clouds. I see we are of like mind about Alma and it sounds like Pati and Marisela are off on their own orbits again/or still.

Thanks for the compliments to Willa. I have some old photos I got her to pose for in the early days I was recapping here on Caray2 with her as a pirate lass and her in a huge Mexican sombrero (definitely a three dog biscuit posing fee).

Cheryl,

I gave up on the show weeks ago, but I just wanted to comment on Willa. She is gorgeous and yes, quite the model. :-)

Thanks, Pablo for the succint recap!

Some thoughts:

The first time Alma answers the door we hear music froom The Nutcracker. Is Christmas really coming apart from Chatita's apartment?

In terms of bad parenting (both of their mothers are crazy): would it be worse to be Xochitl or Valentina?

I saw Verónica's phone at a store this weekend.

I loved Fernando referring to Jessica as Rogelio's "tu segunda amante"--"your second lover." Nice to know someone is keeping count; also Chatita greeting Maricela as "la hija ingrata"--"the ungrateful daughter."

I sort of enjoyed last night's episode.

Jarifa

I thought I heard Beethoven's 6th when Alma was answering the door, but maybe that was the second time...she does seem to get a lot of company in the evening.

I found that giant mute bunny absolutely terrifying. I'm not afraid of clowns, but GEEEYACK.

Willa is a doll? That sweet, over-the-shoulder glance to the camera - such a star!! Glad you were able to attend Kayla's ceremony. Far more important than the non-plot happening here.

So we are still in the mode of everyone wanting someone else. Oh joy! (Please head Monkey, through us some other side plots!!).

I'm so frustrated with Chucho. If he winds up with Vero draped all over him tonight and he still waffles and hedges and is afraid to say something, I'll implode. Gees, man, get a spine! The whole meeting the mother thing was just sad.

Don't like Alma's father.Just an extra character we don't need who really does nothing. Go away. Did find Rog a bit amusing last night. Erick plays him over the top and high-strung, but I think in his case, it sort of works. Can't wait to see what Patimelt does next ( is it wrong of me to be cheering her antics?)

My poor Elias. he needs a hug.

Daisy

Wait. Chucho is going to spend the night at Vero's house? Great! I don't see ANY misunderstandings arising from that at all!! *rolling eyes*

I predict Eli shows up at Vero's in the a.m. and catches Chucho coming down the stairs in his piyamas. Sigh.

Elías is such a fool. He knows Verónica for more than 5 years and he knows Jesús for juárever time he is been in Monterrey (Osorio says is been more than three months, I say three weeks) and he is being too quick to judge. Bad boy!

OK. I just watched the episode again and found out that:

The creepy bunny's card plays generic ''music box'' music.

There's a bad combination when a man with ''needs'' meets a woman with ''experience''...

Jesús has saved Xóchitl's mom a lotta dough playing her therapist. He, like Marisela, should have been one, because we all are ''mujercitas bellas'' and if not, at least we are smart, honest, and all that an ugly woman believes she is to compensate...

I wish I knew where XóchiTL lives so I could google map the directions to and from Avon, Xóchitl, Alma and Verónica's and see if it's true you can be everywhere almost at the same time riding the public transport...

Everything Patricia threw she did it like in the 60s Batman series, wishing she wouldn't hurt Rogelio. I know is not worth the shot, but if she did not want to kill him, I would say at least hurt him. Well deserved! Aim to the head or stomach!

Alma, even though is seen by Rogelio as ''genetically perfect'' has something very wrong inside. Every time she sees Jesús, she pictures that drunken kiss in her mind, and that is the kiss she doesn't even remember!! She knows it happened BECAUSE JESUS TOLD HER! That could be an implanted memory for all I know and she still plays it like an 8-track!!

For that little conversation Jesús could have phoned Alma on her way to Valentina's, but if he had done that, then Alma's nosy father was not going to see him, and then talking to Alma about it. Right?

Vocabulario:
Un clavo saca a otro clavo- I don't know if that really happens in carpentry, but in romancing, it means one person can make you forget the previous one in you rlife. We also add: o se quedan los dos dentro.
One nail takes out another nail, or they both stay inside!

Ya bailó (it has danced)- is dead, not in service anymore, no good.

Hey gang, we have overlooked an important part, the writers have place in this show.

Our Rogue, is reflective of many people in society, that has money and power.

Rogue wants Alma (I don't know why) to bear his children, Sexy Pati to be his sexual freak, and Sexy Jessy to be his Domme. Domination is still kept out of sight, and tightly behind close doors......

On a lightly note, we got to see Jessy at her sexy best, minus the whip, she is the sexiest on here. And willing to do whatever it takes to get what she wants....

Pablo:

Thanks for the added info of the recap. We had the same saying last night on AV about the nail replacing the other nail, lol.

I really wish Elias would calm down and have a nice long talk with Chatita and Chucho without interrupting so he could finally find out that dinner was not for Chucho and Vero, but for Elias and Vero. His anger gets the best of him and he is never quiet long enough to hear the real story. I bet this continues for a while. I too think Elias will convienently show up at Vero as Chucho is coming down the stairs in his jammies. I so liked the bromance between Elias and Chucho.

Also I liked the fact that Chucho got all over Vero's case in what she has been telling poor little Valentina, and Vero saying she wanted her daughter to be her best friend! Are you kidding me??? Valentina is SIX YEARS OLD, and needs a Mama not a best friend Mama. Maybe by the end of this TN Vero will be a better Mama, or better yet, maybe the bromance can be fixed and Chucho and Elias will have Valentina live with one of them.

Congrats to Kayla. That's an important milestone.

There were several fun moments in this episode. Jessica was really sexy as she extorted a better job out of Rogelio in the throe of his "needs" and the scene only got better with the arrival of Paty & Fer. Did Fernando realize that the video he was making was on Paty's phone not on his? I love watching Rogelio and his high strung posturing.

Chucho calling Xochitl's mother on her treatment of her daughter was spot on. Too bad he can't analyze his own actions as well. The mother is hilarious. Love the faces she makes.

It took a lot of persistence to shut up Vero long enough to tell her the truth about the dinner which was not meant to be for her & Jésus but for her and Elias. Now if only someone who knows the truth could use the same technique of persistence on Elias to get him the same info.

The writing is pretty predictable here. Every one of us knows that Elias' anger is going to be reinforced because he is going to discover Chucho in the morning.

The rabbit at the door sure was creepy -- even if the message was sweet. (Too sweet to have been Rog's idea)

And so the chain of unrequited love grows longer. Each episode adds another person longing for someone who is longing for someone else. It's like Sartre's play NO EXIT -- except this is no no no no exit exit exit exit.

Jarifa:

I got to thinking after reading your comment. We have already passed Halloween so Christmas should be coming up soon. Yay, Christmas in May/June, should be fun : )

Hahahaha!
Sorry! This comments are the only thing funny about this TN!

I think this TN was synchronized when first aired in México. Since they waited almost a year to air it here, got all dephased like the weather, it doesn't coincide anymore with any dates...

The bunnygram was creepy. If that rabbit showed up at my door, I would think I was being robbed.

Chucho really should have been a therapist. He spends all his time listening to everyone's problems anyway; he may as well get paid for it. I liked how he defended Xochi to her mother even though this may make Xochi more attached to him.

If Jess is going to try to bedhop her way to success, shouldn't she aim for something higher-paying than a secretary position? What did she eventually negotiate for? I can't remember.

Just go home, Jesus. Go. Home. Where is Elias staying now that he's mad at Chucho?

Julia:

Elias isn't staying anywhere at the moment. Maybe his car. He moved out of Chucho's cause he is mad at him, he can't stay with Chatita cause she has Maricela staying with her. So I think Elias will be in the car, unless he tries to move back into his own home. Vero's rules probably wouldn't allow it.

Thank you, Cheryl. Doggies!! Nice to see Willa with her friend. Congratulations to Kayla!

I am waaaay behind in replying to comments and such, but here are a few old things I'd like to address:

Pablo - YES, it is possible to tangle one's hair up while buttoning something. It's no big deal as long as you can see it, but if it's something that buttons in the back, it's no fun.

The passage of time in TV shows, especially soaps and TNs, is an interesting topic. Years ago, I read something about Landmark Time (Christmas, New Year's, Halloween, etc.) vs. Extended Time (where a "day" can take up ten episodes). It's a good idea to try not to think about it.

New comments:

Giant bunny = terrifying. I know some people have a fetish about furries. I have a phobia. That one was particularly creepy. Reminded me of that scene in The Shining.

Jessica was funny when she figured out about Rogue and Patymelt.

I don't really mind Alma either. She's not exciting, nor is she as sharp as I'd like, but she's like an anchor for Chucho who would otherwise be floating around aimlessly in a giant sea of anxiety. I'd be annoyed if she had a lot of scenes by herself, but she doesn't. So it's okay.

If I were a small child and had to choose between Xochi's mother or Vero, I'd choose Vero. Vero is self-absorbed, but Xochi's mom is cruel. On the other hand, if I had to trade places either with 6-yo Valentina or 26-yo Xochi, that's a no-brainer - I'd be Xochi. And I'd move out. Or if Xochi's mom depends on her (did they say something about that last night?), I'd let her stay but wouldn't tolerate her abuse.

What they all need is a tube of Avon's Problem-Solving Red Lipstick.

I've been trying for YEARS to come up with a decent English equivalent for "one nail drives out another" but have never been able to think of one. I find it hard to believe that we don't say something like this.

The closest equivalent I've heard is "you can get over someone by getting under someone else", but that's a little more vulgar and less charming.

Julie, how about "love the one you're with"? :)

I like your all-purpose advice for telenovela-induced cognitive dissonance: It's a good idea to try not to think about it. (That could be the back of the t-shirt, with the Scary Bunny on the front.)

Oh-em-gee, Julia, I'd never heard that one!

Julie- It's the same in English (one nail drives out another), just not used anymore.

"As one nail by strength drives out another, so the remembrance of my former love is by a newer object quite forgotten." -Shakespeare, Two Gentlemen of Verona

Oh, what I meant to say about the time thing is that we're to assume that there are a lot of uneventful days in between the ones we actually see, even if each day appears to immediately follow the previous one. Otherwise, it would be a year between Thanksgiving and Christmas. We haven't had so much as a weekend in PEAM, I don't think.

But that's why we have the beanies. I think mine needs to be tightened.

I don't want the scary bunny on my shirt. I'll get scared every time I look down!

Vivi! Shakespeare? Really? So it IS English?? Awesome!

I say we bring that phrase back.

Incidentally, if you tell English-speaking persons that you're "between the sword and the wall", they will tend to look at you like you're strange. But it's such a good phrase!

The sword and the wall makes so much more sense than a rock and a hard place. (Isn't a rock already a hard place?)

EXACTLY! It makes so much more sense!

Hi all...my recording only got the first part of this but I DID see the terrifying bunny. Now if they'd had Cheryl's lovely Willa deliver the tulips, that would have been cool. And Cheryl, yes, kudos to you for keeping your priorities straight. And congrats to Kayla.

For us Colunga fans, it is torture to see him playing such a nebbish. Thank God I can re-watch Alborada on Friday nights to get a good dose of Colunga as a manly hero.

Pablo--thanks for "o se quedan los dos dentro" (sounds more like MY romantic history) and Vivi--wow! didn't know that particular line from Shakespeare but yes, let's bring it back.

Lee--glad you enjoyed Jessica's shining moment--she does bring a lot of sizzle to her scenes.

And add me to the list of those not bothered my Alma's quiet, sweet sanity. The actress has the most beautifully balanced face I have ever seen--curve of chin, lips, nose, eyes--perfectly proportioned. A pleasure to contemplate when I'm not ogling Chucho's muscles.

I like Alma's laugh. It's so real, not like an actor faking laughing.

I'm not liking FC in this. He's mugging too much. Only time I like him is when he's telling someone off, he seems more genuine then.

Love, love, love Vale. If I end up dumping this TN for CI, I will check the recaps to see when she's on and watch any scenes she's in.

I didn't completely understand what was going on in the Xochi/Jesus/Mama scene. Did he tell Mama things that made her not want him for her daughter then turn around when he was gone and thought bubbled that she wanted Xochi to marry him? I'm really confused.

As far as I could tell (I confess I wasn't very attentive, making/eating dinner), Xochi's mother was impressed by his good looks, skeptical of his interest in Xochi, and offended yet aroused by his forceful insistence that she be more respectful to her daughter. I'm sure there was more, but I missed it.

I thought maybe Xochi said she was supporting her mother, but I wouldn't swear to it. Maybe her mother was supporting her, or put her through secretarial school. That would be an interesting parallel to Mari's situation.

All of the above.

Bárbara was impressed by Jesús super hyper extra handsome looks, compared to the one and a half other boyfriends Xóchitl had in the past.

She felt insulted (in her own home) when Jesús asked her why was she putting down her own brilliant daughter, who, if not cute or socially graceful, was honest, real, blah, blah...

When she learned about Jesús 6 yo daughter, she said she remembered when Xóchitl was six, adding she always had A+, but despite that she didn't do better than secretary school.
-Because I had to work to support you, said XTL.
-So now you are going to rub it in? said Mom, and more like that until Jesús left and Mom Bárbara exclaimed:
-This is a real man, handsome, rough, real, breve, and fearless!! I want him for my Son in law!!
I want wedding! I can almost see them before the priest!! I can almost see myself picking up the bouquet!! Etc.

WOW. Thank you. So XTL is actually supporting that woman. Barb should try having a daughter like Mari for a while. (No way would I fix Barbara up on a date with Panfilo. Not a a zillion years.)

Thanks Pablo. I was way off. I have to try and figure things out from the few words that I know and facial expressions. For some reason, I thought Jesus told Barbara about his past (maybe to turn her off of him as a boyfriend for Xochi).

I'm thinking a Panfilio/Chatita hook-up, even before that sweet kiss.

These would be my end of TN pairings (at this point): Alma/Jesus (duh!), Chatita/Panfilio, Xochi and either Orange Tie Guy or Taxi Guy, Marisela/Ricardo, Elias/Marta, Fern/Discua. I'd have Vero alone--but not in a bad way. She's alone to concentrate on being a better mother to Vale and then at the very end of the gran final, at Alma's and Jesus' wedding, she meets someone.

Jesus did tell Barbara that he has a daughter (but is not married), lost his savings in a fraud, and had some legal trouble that prevented him from being picky about jobs (but it is now resolved). Maybe she admired his openness, because she sure changed her tune. I think she's already planning the wedding...not sure whether she intends to marry him off to Xochi or to herself!

Julia: It seemed like she wasn't taking what he was saying about himself very well, but as soon as he left she was talking about a wedding. I'm glad I wasn't as off about that scene as I thought.

I think she warmed up to him when he stood up to her on X's behalf. I don't think she's used to being spoken to that way. She looked shocked, intrigued, and in need of a cold shower!

Oh Yay, a Willa picture! How well I remember her in her pirate get-up. Cheryl, kudos to you for even knowing what a first cousin twice removed is and good for you for going to Kayla's graduation.

Pablo, thanks for the mini recap. I'm sorry I missed Jesus meeting Xochi's mom, just because I like the actress's facial expressions and all.
