PEAM #58-5/29/13: This Is Not A Drill. In Case of "Emergency" Involving "Anyone" Going to the Hospital, Please Exit the Building in a Calm Manner Using the Evacuation Routes.

Recap by Pablo

Hombre prevenido vale por dos

I am glad Malvino had change in his pocket so he could call Rogelio on the payphone. He regretted forgetting his Unefón in the warehouse, 75 centavos beat 2 whole pesos per minute, doesn't it?  Anyway, if it was bad for him and his wallet, the news were much worse for Rogelio and his safe, since he was losing alotta dough there... If you are a money launderer, isn't it  easier and safer to control your dirty money yourself than have other people keeping it and giving you little amounts every time you ask for it?  Just asking... One must always try to avoid the middlemen...

After all, Avon isn't L'oreal and doesn't have the 365 shades of True Match foundation.

Alma insists that Jesús attend her dream wedding and he insists in saying he doesn't see the point. As the plane takes off in a few minutes, Alma needs to be sure he is going to Acapulco to convince herself that she is actually marrying Rogelio, you know, the closer she is to Jesús the more convinced she gets and the more time she spends with Jesús, the more convinced she is she loves Rogelio. Someone told me women seemed weird because they were from Venus and their brain worked different than men's and they communicate in spirals, not straightforward, but I am sure Alma is from another planet.... Uranus, maybe?
Well, during that pulling and pushing Rogelio interrupts such an important debate to tell Alma he has to go out because something really big has come up. Of course he doesn't say what or how much money is in jeopardy, and that leaves her even more confused... Not to worry. Jesús is there, and we all know what that means, she loves Rogelio!!

Flashbacks are not hot flashes

#1  You didn't go to Toluca to see Una familia con suerte!! You never boarded a plane and never was robbed!! Never!! -thinks Jesús using facial expression # 4 but suddenly, endangering him to stay with that face forever, Xóchitl abruptly takes him out of his inner self to ask him if he is really her friend or he just said so to take her off of his back. Because if he is really her friend, he must tell her EVERYTHING he feels for Alma. Well, some people find pleasure in pain... to each its own! Don't judge!

Flashback #2 Marisela's lips remind Elías how much she likes him, how much she loves him, how much she wants him, and everything she feels for him in huge amounts.

Meanwhile at the Hospital

Susana kisses her husband goodbye. Hernán's addiction to tobacco has caused terminal emphysema and there's nothing we can do. He dies. Standing at the threshold Sebastián watches while touching his heart. I thought he was moved by the sad scene, but turned out that was too much for him and right there he fell to the floor as tall as he was. Susana turned around when she heard the noise and couldn't believe how two men could fall for her almost at the same time!

 Me gossipy? Never!!

To prove their new friendship, as a rite of passage, Jesús trusts Xóchitl and becomes part of the well lubed gossip machinery that is Avon. He tells her about his suspicions (go to Flashback #1) and all that. Then, ya encarrerado el ratón, they speak about Jessica, the three stooges, the wedding, Francis the Pope and even Francis the talking mule...

Rogelio argues with his two ASSistants but all together are unable to figure out how the police found the location of the new warehouse.

Flashback #3 The most expensive Confetti in the world is thrown on Rogelio's face.

Speaking of Fernando, Alma tries to use her new advisory gift (that can only be used on others but herself) on him, telling him that Discua did this and that to see if with that thread she could pull the whole needle!! NO way! Fernando didn't trust her and told her he wanted to be left alone...

Flashback #4 Discua and Fernando cry as they say goodbye because none of them wished to step down from their pedestal and open their hearts to the truth coming out of Fernando's mouth. Too bad too much light can be blinding!!

Antes muerto que sencillo

We may never know the reason, but upon hearing that Hernán had passed away, Sebastián fell victim to a heart attack. Maybe he was too sad or maybe he was too happy, after all, Susana is single again with no husband to care for... this could be the first day of the rest of their lives... If she finally say yes he can be sure he will be in good hands... Of course, that until Pánfilo shows up in his Garbage truck and invites her for coffee... didn't that happen to poor Hernán? History could repeat itself...
When Sebastián is on the floor, check the dead squirrel on his head! You can almost see it winking!

Donde come uno comen dos

Verónica, who is now becoming a carnivore and wants more than rib eye or steak (she wants juicy Jesús to nibble on), takes the liberty to invite Marta to the Christmas Eve dinner. After all, isn't Christmas the time for sharing? She needs to be careful though, because if she blinks, Marta could take  more than meatloaf... Elías is so yummy!! And there's plenty!!

From now on, intro credits will be shown after playing the roulette. Shuffling them so we have at least something unexpected every day!!

This is not a drill...

Jesús brings the bad news about Susana's husband and the whole building make plans to go either to the Hospital or the funeral. News get worse when he tells Alma her father suffered a heart attack. All is chaos, people doesn't know where to run, to Susana, to Alma, to the stock room, please help!
Where are those evacuation signs  when we need them?
Alma, totally devastated, runs to Rogelio, but he is busy choking Fernando to death. Saved by the Belle, Fernando breaths hardily when everybody runs to the Hospital to see old Sebastián. Yes! That is Jesús' facial expression # 54, when he hears ''our wedding must be postponed''...

High Anxiety

Patricia checks the video out and decides it is not worth three peanuts, and that's not all, while getting the camera from Alma's place, she was spotted by Sebastián who now suspects she is the ''Patricia'' Rogelio was talking with. Like she is the only Patricia in Monterrey... Nooo! Wait! She is!!

:: Editors found footage of time elapsing - And yes!! They used it all at once!!

Finally it is Christmas Eve!

Jesús can not say no to anything she wishes, even when doing that damages his relationship with other adults. She can get everything and Elías is trying to move her to the Toy store, since that would be easier than taking all those toys to her bedroom...
To highlight the power of love, or ''give love don't buy it'', Osorio decides to show Elías spending money he doesn't need to buy so many and very expensive toys that surely will need to be disinfected while Jesús walks through street vendors and ends up buying, guess what??

YYEESS!!! The Queen and her helper dolls, ya hay en México!!
Someone who is clearly a psychic ''saw'' the fairy tales he tells her before going to bed and put together these dolls, and I am sure, Valentina will be greatly satisfied with them, disregarding balls, barbies, magic ovens and legos that Elías is getting right now!

Cut to use the glycerin tears

Verónica y Minerva, both with face masks to not spill some of the saliva while they cook and talk, prepare meatloaf. At some point, Verónica takes hers off and later we will savor the juiciest meatloaf ever!!
She tells Valentina she will get Jesús a gift (this late? What time is it? Santa Claus will climb down the chimney very soon!) and Vale ask for Elías, so Verónica, who has clearly forgotten what she doesn't want to remember, quickly improvises and tells Vale gift shopping is something so big that mothers and daughters have to do it together, but vale is very smart, and finds out that's a big fat lie. Add to the pain that she discovers that the reason Jesús left was because he didn't know she existed. Verónica knows exactly what to give for Christmas!! Pain and suffering!!

Fin de año?

Fearing for his money and his freedom, Rogelio talks to the lawyer, who tries to make him feel better arguing that there is nothing that links him to the warehouse... what they don't know is that the Officer is smart and the only thing she needs to link everything together is a piece of newspaper she saw in the warehouse where Rogelio and Alma's wedding was published so all of Monterrey knows what's going on in the upper classes. BTW, the new element, Nancy, needs more acting lessons...

Unefón, the talking phone

While visiting her father, Alma gets a call from Jesús, who happens to be in the Hospital that day. The call of course, can be heard, like a voice mail with text included, just in case...

Flashback #5 Sebastián suspects Patricia is the only woman in Monterrey with that name, plus, Alma's girlfriend and Rogelio's BFF (no, I didn't mean Best friend forever)! Isn't that just too much for a woman Patricia's size to handle?

Flashback #6 Discua and her empty speeches. The cross is behind her but the light is too bright and she can not see past it.

Access is denied

Fernando tries to see Discua one more time but her followers have strict instructions not to let him in. Damage is irreversible and even when Rogelio would try to patch things up with Fernando and Discua, I think it is too late now...

Welcome to the darkroom

Cárdenas invites Jéssica to his house for Christmas dinner. His mother is going to be there but... are they the only people who will attend?

Aquí se rompió una taza y cada quien a su casa

The three stooges have different plans so they will have
a) Ricardo alone with only his debtors after him
b) Julio with Xóchitl and
c) Gilberto with his wife, after some tequila shots in the bar of course!

Who'd thunk that Jesús knew the ancient art of the Origami?? He is really a Pandora's Box, or as we say, un estuche de monerías!!

Tomorrow:
Kiss compilation
I am sure Alma is not there when Sebastian confronts Rogelio, wanna bet?

Pablo:

Thanks so much for this fantastic recap.

Poor Dona Susana. One of her loves dies and the other has a heart attack. I am glad she is staying with the secretaries. Chucho was so sweet with her.

Discua is still trying to process what happened with Ferny I think. She actually winked, just once. She still loves him. I wonder if she will seek to get him back at some point.

Rogue is the biggest idiot ever but his Sanson was so cute in that Santa Claus outfit. I was glad that Ferny sicced the cops on him and Delia is no dummy. She knows they are somehow involved.

Well, Patymelt got her wish for Christmas, even though she doesn't know it yet. She'll be all happy when she finds out.

Pablo,

Thanks for all the dichos and all the customs you tell us about : )

The Uranus joke made me laugh so hard! I also really liked "if the light is too bright, it's blinding". So philosophical!

Also, you have inspired me. I'm giving up on debating whether to call him "Jesús" or "Chucho". From now on, he is Juicy to me!

Elías must have found a credit card that works...too bad for him Juicy found a better present, in the tianguis, no less.

Sansón in a Santa suit! That was the best part.

Sansón was Santa? Oh that's too funny, especially after we all thought he was going to be a reindeer.

Pablo, I almost fell over backwards with your wisecrack about Discua being from Uranus, bwahahaha! And you are so right, one should always avoid the middlemen, especially Roge even though he doesn't actually want to do anything himself. (But then we wouldn't have so many laughs.)

Thanks for the great dichos in this recap.

Pablo and others, by the way, maybe you can help me out with a saying that I heard? "La tinta más pobre de color vale más que la mejor memoria." Does it mean something like "You'd better get it in writing" or does it have another nuance of meaning?

Super recap, thanks!

Pablo, thanks for such a funny and insightful recap! I especially liked Susan not being able to believe how two men could fall for her at almost the same time and the dead squirrel on top of Sebastian's head.

That big spinning clock was just great to show the passage of time.Since this novela is so goofy anyway I wish they would do more things like that. It helps the beanie work better. Poor Jessica!Who knows what awaits her with Dr. Frankenstein. I was cooking and missed Sansón in his Santa suit. I will have to take a look for it on my tape.

Thanks! Now that I read the comments I realize I missed a few things... ;-(

CSS: This is the first time I hear that saying, but yes, it's gotta mean that you have to put everything in writing so you never forget. Good one!

Oh, I look forward to these Wed. recaps. And I DID put the coffee down right before reading " Susana turned around when she heard the noise and couldn't believe how two men could fall for her almost at the same time!" and the homage to the squirrel. Hysterical!!

You know, and maybe it's just me, but there is a business to run. I understand everyone is so concerned, but I feel for the poor non-TV smucks who are lifting the heavy weights of running this office. They deserve a raise.

So maybe we finally get the Card's secret lab reveal? Being it seems to be a flat surface he works on, I'm thinking a sculture/picture of some sort? Metal image of Jess perhaps? Watch, it won't be creepy at all but really cool. (Or at least I rather hope so.)

Poor Susanna. Not so much that she lost her husband, which was very sweetly done but expected, but now she will be hooked up with sourpuss Sebastian. My guess on the heart clutch---he realized that he actually had one watching two people who really know what love is.

Loved the dolls!!! But I hope that Christmas doesn't turn into some macho contest between Chucho and Elias. You know Val will love the doll and I really don't want to see Elias, though acting weird, be hurt. Oh, and I hope Vero chokes on the meatloaf...Happy holidays!!

Daisy

Just got back to town and finally caught up on episodes -- many thanks to Madelaine, Julie, Julia and Pablo for the three base hits and the score. You guys are awesome!

Hope to read the comments as well later on. I hate to miss any of the wit & wisdom.

I'm headed off again on Sunday, but fortunately to the Land of Spanish Language TV on Basic Cable (Florida), so I should be all set!

Pablo, I'm kind of relieved to hear that even you miss some details when you are recapping. It's hard to do a recap and catch everything, isn't it?

You never heard that dicho before? I thought about it a lot before the light bulb more or less went on over my head. Thanks for thinging about it and commenting on it.

Daisy, the way this show teases us and then...NADA...I think you are probably right about what Cardenas is doing. His project will be very benign. Maybe he's taken up Ikebana.

Well...
I thought I was part of the winking patrol and I didn't comment on the one and only Discua's wink. I got carried away by the squirrel...

Then I forgot to mention Sansón in his Santa outfit, being flattered by Rogelio, who thinks the dog is way smarter than many of the humans who surround him...

But I am happy because we all are part of the whole, and we have the TN covered, frame to frame, all through the ca. 64,000 of them!!

Pablo...this was outstanding. Every paragraph and heading witty and clever. But my favorite?:

"Saved by the Belle".

Outstanding use of language. Super outstanding when we take into account that English is your second language. That just blew me away.

Thanks as always for the dichos. You are a rich resource as well as being flat out lots of fun!

Pablo, you truly ARE the Man!!!!!
I love the dichos.
I can't stop laughing at: two men falling for Susana, Samson as Santa and the juicy meatloaf. Xochy's need for punishment as a friend.
Since when was meatloaf a holiday tradition???
Although Roger feels that Discua brainwashed Ferny and the lawyer feels that Ferny is brainless, the dummy outwitted them both.

Thank you, Pablo! Your best recap yet.

I don't know what planet Alma is from, but I KNOW it's not Vulcan.

"Jesús is there, and we all know what that means, she loves Rogelio!!" LOL! Yep, and she needs to spend as much time with him as possible so that she can remember how much she loves Rog. It's to everyone's benefit, really!

I liked "Saved by the belle," but I LOVED "right there he fell to the floor as tall as he was." That's right, the bigger they are, the harder they fall! Or at least the taller they are, the farther they fall!

Is anyone worried that Susana's drinking too much coffee lately? ;-)

Do we think Vero invited Martha to dinner because she WANTS her to get together with Elias and get him out of Vero's life? Or is Vero just oblivious? (I won't see this episode till this weekend, so I'm just wondering if we had any hint of that?)

Julie:

You always, always come up with some good points! I think Vero is never clueless, unless it has to do with Juicy Chucho, lol. I think she is trying to set Elias up with someone to get him out of her hair and Marta is the obvious choice. I know she knows about Maricela, I think, but maybe she feels that Marta is a better choice for him.

Pablo:

Never worry about missing anything. We all miss something and the commenters always fill in, no worries ; )

Maybe she thinks Meatloaf looks like a fruitcake? LOL!
Well, she have her traditions all mixed up, so instead of turkey she will start with THE OTHER RED MEAT.

She said that the smell of raw meat was something she was starting to like a lot! She doesn't need to eat Jesús alive, just count how many licks it takes to get to the center!

Also, it doesn't sound like she means other than have ''poor'' Marta, who is not ''lucky enough'' to have ''a family'' to spend Christmas with, over for dinner.
I think is more like ''see how good I am now, I am doing charity'' (and I am eating meat, and it's red).

Martha has relatives but they don't get along. Maybe she, like Alma, can not help herself. She should try to analyze herself into getting her family back. Anyway, maybe is true that therapists are the ones who need the therapy the most!!

Hah Pablo...I thought about that too when Marta said she didn't get along with her relatives. Well, I once knew a marriage therapist who had already been divorced twice so what does that tell you?

If Vero REALLY wants to be pretentious, she should have GOOSE for Christmas dinner. (Imagine a turkey that's made entirely of dark meat. That's goose! It's INCREDIBLE!)

But goose isn't RED, so maybe it's not good enough for Vero! You can, however, stuff it with chestnuts.

Ugh, Pablo, you are probably right about Vero's motivation for inviting Marta. If Marta can tear her attention away from Eli for a moment, maybe she'll realize what Vero is up to. In any case, I don't think it's customary for therapists to see their clients socially; but in TNs, it's de rigueur. At least for female therapists. But that's not sexist or anything, nope!

If she wants to really appeal to the meat-eaters, she should be serving Turducken. With various forms of meatloaf as the stuffing between layers.

And raw meat, really? Raw meat smells gross. I think she's been breathing too much aerosol sanitizer.

Maybe tests will reveal that Rohellio got Sebas an inferior-quality black market heart and bribed the doctors to install it since it was good enough to buy him time to court and marry Alma, he thought, and that is why it went bad again, and Alma will no longer feel obligated to him.

Ha. Entirely plausible.

Maybe Marta is Yuri's sister, and that's why she "doesn't get along with her family"!

Blue: good one!

Maybe she's Rogue and Fern's sister!

All plausible theories! She's GOT to be related to someone else in the story, right? A telenovela isn't over until the familial and romantic links are a Gordian Knot.

Before it's too late, Pablo. I had to tell you. I was rolling on the floor, down the aisle and out the door laughing. The mailman wondered what had happened. There was *No Way* I could explain.

This is as good as it gets, folks, until maybe next week. Every action deserved one of your verbal reactions. Tooo Tooo Funny.

I was out most of the day, so I had to pick my tns to comment on. I can see everybody here enjoyed your narrative.

Don't know what inspired you to start commenting and then recapping, but Amigo, you definitely belong here.

Thanks!
I try...
I think it was thanks to PESE and then I saw you had some other TN and since I was starting to watch PEAM, I stayed. I liked the way the blog is done and the rest is history. When I was invited I said yes, hoping one day I could measure up to the pros.

Thanks for the support!

Well Pablo, you are a treasure and I'm so glad that you joined the recapping team. Both you and Tablet Jefa were new voices for me.

TJ, had you recapped before? Because your recaps are also a delight. I have had the extreme pleasure of enjoying previous recaps by the other PEAM members and many of the commenters and the more the merrier I say. And it DOES teach us Spanish!
