Qué Bonito Amor #29 (Mex 43-44.1) Thursday 5/23/13 Que Miedoso Crisis

Ruben claims he came to the house to talk to Amalia, not Maria.  He apologizes to her.  She doesn't seem to care for his apology, but offers him a drink.  He hesitates before sitting on the couch and brushes it off with his hand before he does.  Don't worry jackass…poor isn't contagious.

JAntos starts to tell Maria something, but is overcome and they get busted hugging by Colosso.  He mocks her for forgiving him yet again and tells them both to hurry up and get ready for the first set.

Isa's friend still can't get her to wake up and goes running up the hill for help.

Ruben tries to tell Amalia he and Maria are just friends and he wants to support her professionally.  Amalia's like, "Dude, you're married and she's young and hot.  And the fact that you're now getting divorced means I want you even farther away from her!  I don't want her being called a homewrecker on your account!"  Even in the kitchen, Paloma's not buying Ruben's crap about how he and his wife just fell out of love or whatever.  Poor Rebecca comes pounding on the door to tell them that Isa's been run over.

Ay Jalisco has a packed house and Colosso talks to everyone about the set list.  He figures by the second set Maria and JAntos will have broken up again and will delight the audience by airing their grievances in song. He jokes that he'll sing last since JAntos said he only gets applause once JAntos has warmed up the audience for him.  He tells El de la Ponytail to get the musicians on stage, but Susanito hasn't arrived yet.  Colosso and JAntos have words once again about JAntos forgetting his place and not giving Colosso the respect he thinks he deserves.  Yawn.  A otra con ese cancion, Colosso, cause this girl is tired of hearing it!

Maria and JAntos sing Vamonos (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bz9L2xNYQJY)

We're not the same, people say
And your life and my life will be wasted
And I'm a bastard and you're decent
And two people so different can't love each other

Let's go where no one will judge us
Where no one will tell us we're doing the wrong thing
Let's go somewhere away from the world
Where there's no justice or laws or anything
Only our love

Out on the street, everyone is crowded around Isa, who hasn't regained consciousness and Ruben says he'll call an ambulance while Rebecca cries that this is her fault.  Paloma tells Rebecca to stop crying, but yes, this is what happens when you disobey.  That's cold Paloma.

The ambulance arrives and they're loading Isa into the ambulance.  Ruben has set everything up with a doctor at the hospital, Amalia and Paloma get in the ambulance, a neighbor is going to take care of getting Rebecca home, and Ruben will go get Maria and bring her to the hospital.  *le sigh*

Back at Ay Jalisco, Maria and JAntos continue singing

Let's go where no one will judge us
Where no one will tell us we're doing the wrong thing
Let's go somewhere away from the world
Where there's no justice or laws or anything
Only our love

[Other verses they didn't get to:

But I already loved you and I won't forget you
And dying in your arms is my hope
I don't understand this stuff about social classes
Only that you love me and I love you

If we're not the same, what does that matter to us?
Our love story has to continue
And since someone told me life is short
I've come for you, for once and for all

But I want you to know that I'm not forcing you
And if you come with me, it's for love
Say with all your strength what I am in your life
So they can see you love me the way I love you]

They finish off their performance with a big kiss, which the audience loves, but makes Colosso grind his teeth.

Backstage, JAntos tells Maria that his parents sent him money and he's going back to LA tomorrow.

Altagracia and Justo sit down to dinner.  Justo wonders how long it will be before Santos really ever trusts him again, but Altagracia is just glad he knows they're on his side.  Wendy brings Bruno to dinner.  Seriously, Wendy?

Michael's cell mysteriously opens and he gets dragged out by two guards.

JAntos says he's going back to LA to get back the other half of his soul, like the healer said.  But he'll be back.  Maria doesn't think so and she's not happy about it.  JAntos says his heart will stay with her, so he'll have to come back for it.  Not that he knows when he'll be able to get back.  Colosso walks in on their teary scene and accuses them of sneaking offstage to make out. He threatens to tell Concho, but JAntos says there's no need--he's going back to LA tomorrow.

The dinner party from hell continues.  Altagracia can't keep from expressing her contempt for Bruno.  Bruno plays wounded and says he shouldn't have come to dinner, but Wendy says he's there to have dinner with her, not to be judged.  Bruno says he'd rather not cause problems between her and her parents and leaves.  Same old argument between Wendy and the parental units.  And Wendy…next time you want to have dinner with your skeezy boyfriend, go frickin' have dinner with your skeezy boyfriend somewhere other than at your parents' dinner table with them present!

Ambulance ride to hell.  The paramedic asks if Isa was moved at all, but unless someone moved her before Amalia got there, she wasn't.  Ruben told Amalia not to, even though she wanted to hold Isa.

Colosso crows, but Maria is suffering.  JAntos brings up that Colosso promised not to call him "pocho" anymore and Colosso reminds JAntos that he promised to kick his ass if he hurt Maria. But, hey, first things first, and the show must go on.

Altagracia justifies her behavior to Justo, saying if Wendy were in a predicament similar to Santos' she'd be defending her just as vehementely.

Michael gets dragged to a dark cell where an echoey voice says they've been waiting for him.

Colosso brings Maria and JAntos back onstage and announces they'll be singing as punishment for having snuck off.  He tells the guys to start "The Last Drink" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6huI9CoIo0I)

Drink this bottle with me
And on the last drink we'll go
I want to see what forgetting you tastes like
Without setting my eyes on your hands
Tonight I won't beg you
Tonight you'll really go
It's so difficult to have to leave you
Without feeling like you don't love me anymore

The years have taught me nothing
I always make the same mistakes
Once more to toast with strangers
And cry over the same pains

Michael gets dragged into the prison infirmary, where the warden had him dragged to deal with his heinous toothache.  Who do I kick for the way that whole episode played out?  Am I seriously supposed to believe that the warden would have him summoned this way rather than just your garden variety "Johnson, let's go." and a verbal refusal to say where, rather than dragging him kicking and screaming?  Cause prison guards coming to get him in the middle of the night isn't mysterious and threatening enough?  Hey, they could have thrown in an ominous "Someone wants to see you." and it still would have seemed plausible.

Back at Ay Jalisco Maria finishes the song

Drink this bottle with me
And on the last drink we'll go

[omitted verse:
Drink this bottle with me
And on the last drink, kiss me
We'll hope there are no witnesses
In case it embarrasses you
If one day we bump into each other without meaning to
Don't lower your head or speak to me
We'll just shake hands
And let people talk later]

And the crowd goes wild!  Por supuesto.  They share a tearful hug on stage.  Ruben runs in and asks Ana to see Maria.  He actually tells Ana that something happened to Isabel, which, thanks for doing this in an above-board way.

Ana waves Maria over from the wings and when JAntos tries to follow, Colosso grabs him and says it's time for the two of them to sing a cockfight…digo, a duet.

Ana has a hard time telling Maria that something happened to Isa, but she gets it out eventually.

The Virgencita rides in this ambulance.  Amalia prays desperately.  Chill, Amalia!  The Virgen is on the case!  Isa moves her fingers and Amalia begs her to open her eyes.

On stage, Colosso tells the guys to play "They Saw a Man Cry" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R-d0_MNNbhg ) and boasts to JAntos that this one will fit him like a glove ("como anillo al dedo"--like a ring on your finger).  Ana looks like she's trying to get someone else's attention--maybe JAntos, maybe the whole gang since they're all like family--but she gives up.

What's the point of looking for her, what's the point of following her
It was pointless to adore her, if I couldn't have her
That's what I said to myself one night, getting soaked on a corner

Then I turned around, took off in any direction
I wanted to go out the door, that a glass of wine opens
I wanted to tear her from my soul, send it back where it came from
Wine (agrando--from "agrandar"--make greater) increased my pain, the pain brought out my tears
The tears opened my mouth, My mouth said your name
And there between glasses, they saw this man cry

As the guys finish, they see Maria off to the side talking with Ana and Ruben, and it seems obvious that she's upset.  She leaves quickly with Ruben and Colosso keeps JAntos from following, saying the crowd is clamoring for another song.  Which they are…"otro, otro."  JAntos won't be held back by Colosso, but Concho propels him back to the stage and takes the mic to say that of course the guys will sing all the songs the crowd wants.

Maria, in the back of Ruben's car, fusses that she told Isa not to ride the damn scooter!  Ruben says he's sure she'll be fine, and she's in the best hands.  Ruben takes her hands to comfort her, but she pulls them away.

JA threatens Colosso that he'll mysteriously forget the words, and then what will Colosso do?  Colosso tells him to go cry in the kitchen over being cheated on and JAntos leaves.  Colosso tells the guys to start up "You and the Clouds" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hY_dE_vTGVc)

Backstage, Ana tells JAntos that he's got to get out of there, that Isabel had an accident and isn't doing well.  She gives him the hospital information and begs him to call soon and tell her what happened.  Concho watches JAntos go tearing out of the bar.

In the prison infirmary, Michael tells the warden he needs an endodontia…ooh boy, the warden needs a root canal!  Michael says he has to do an x-ray and knock him out and the warden refuses both and says to just do what he can with what they've got and if he fixes it, the warden will let him be the prison dentist.  If not, the warden will make Michael's life as miserable as the tooth is making him!  Michael's like "dude!  You want me to go in blind and cause you more pain than your already feeling?"  The warden says he's fought in two wars (What?  Which?) and if the bullets didn't get him, a dentist certainly can't.  Stupid, stupid, stupid!

Jantos runs down the sidewalk, almost gets run over crossing the street, and catches a bus.

In LA, Wendy complains the whole dinner debacle is her mother's fault.  She tells Bruno the nightmare will end. Bruno begs her to just run away with him.  Wendy agrees.  She has her wedding dress all laid out and swears she'll marry him in it to prove they're innocent.  Bruno goes pale. Under that tan?  He says he's just tired and wants to leave.

Root canal.  Aaand, we're done.  The warden must have passed out from the pain, cause Michael has to wave some smelling salts under his nose to get him to wake up.  Because this is Telenovelandia, the warden wakes up from his impromptu, anasthesialess root canal feeling instantly better.  And Michael has a job again.

Concho is just loving what a big hit the show is!  Especially JAntos and Maria's duet.  Mirna tries to make sure that Colosso gets the credit, saying he picked the song.  Concho wants to give him a wad of cash as a bonus and so that he'll keep putting on shows like this.  Colosso starts to refuse, saying he's just doing his job, but of course he gives in.  Concho wants Colosso and JAntos to repeat their duet tomorrow, but Colosso announces that's not going to be possible, since JAntos is going back to LA tomorrow.  Except, of course he's not, not with Isabel in the hospital.

At the hospital, Maria is having a hard time finding Isabel.  She, Paloma, and Ruben are asking a nurse, who finally tells them if she came in through Emergency she won't be in the system.  Ruben circumvents silly hospital bureaucracy by calling his friend, the doctor, directly.  The doctor, who was apparently not in the middle of doing any doctoring, answers his cell phone long enough to tell Ruben that he's examining the patient "right now" and will come find them when he's done.  I have a horrible feeling that this doctor is going to be yet another young, good looking guy, who falls instantly in love with Maria in her awesome red traje, cause hey, who wouldn't. Maybe he'll be the guy who's actually decent and perfectly acceptable and might have been The Guy if they'd met under different circumstances, but just isn't.

Amalia tries to nag Isabel back to health, but Isa's out cold.  A nurse comes to take Isa for a CAT scan and Amalia prays to the Virgen.  She tries to trade her life for Isa's, but come on, the Virgen never takes deals like that.

Ana finally gets to fill the guys and Colosso in. While Colosso is complaining about how expensive the hospital is and how that smarmy Ruben will probably be paying just to get in Maria's pants…digo, good graces…Milamores doesn't care, damnit!  He just wants to know how his Terremotito (little earthquake) is doing!  I love Milamores.  I know, I know, the cheating.  Just let me ignore that and love him for being an otherwise decent guy, a loyal friend, with a good sense of humor, and capable of focusing on something OTHER than Maria.  Colosso tells the guys they've got to gather some cash, cause Maria's going to need it.

Montage of money gathering: Milamores-in a potted plant he keeps outside; Moustache Mariachi 1-in a hollowed out bible; Moustache Mariachi 2-behind a painting; Colosso-under his bed.  Can't quite make out what the one with all the shadows is or who it is, or who it is who keeps their cash in the back of a desk.  And they couldn't have sent up the Mariachi Signal the last five times Maria needed cash for something?

Altaracia stops Bruno as he's leaving and asks to speak to him, especially if they're going to end up being family.

Cops.  Nothing important.  FF>>

Agitated Maria and Paloma in the waiting room.  Amalia joins them to say there's no damage to the brain, but she does have internal bleeding, so they're doing an abdominal ultrasound.  Amalia loses it. Ruben says they all need to chill.  If it were serious his friend would have called him.  I'm pleasantly surprised when JAntos shows up all Ruben does is tell Maria "Your friend is here," then blandly greet JAntos with "Vargas," and step away.  Maria cries in his arms.

Cops again.  Nothing important. I have no idea why he's allowing her to smooch him on the cheek, but predictably, he's acting like there's nothing odd or unprofessional about it, and he still doesn't realize she wants to get into his pants.  FF>>

Altagracia tries to lay a serious guilt trip on Bruno, talking about how their family is falling apart and invoking his mother…who she was BFFs with.  To the point that she was at his mother's side when she died, promised her that she'd look after Bruno, and was the one to close her eyes after she was gone.  In her name, she begs Bruno to look her in the eyes and swear on his mother's memory that her son is a criminal.

Oh, good, the doctor's an old guy.  He sounds all doom and gloom when he says Isa needs an operation immediately.  Amalia's all set to go discuss that with him, but Maria, ever the parentified child, goes with him instead.

Mariachimobile Carpool of Mercy.  The guys sing something as they drive to the hospital.  Either they were at a stop light or Colosso wasn't driving with his hands.

The doctor explains to Maria that Isa has lost lots of blood and he needs to operate immediately.  She needs blood, but Maria tells him no one in the family has the same blood type, and then presumably she tells him that Isa's not related to them by blood.

Out in the waiting room, a nurse asks Amalia to fill out some paperwork before Isa's surgery.

Altagracia keeps pressing Bruno for a response and Bruno finally says "I betrayed him.  We all did.  Santos is innocent.  Michael and Santos are the only innocent ones.  We all took advantage of them."  Well, cara de impactada de mi!  I didn't think he'd swear a lie, but I also didn't think he'd blurt out the truth.  I figured he'd just keep hedging, throw a tantrum, and walk out.

Maria tells JAntos that Isa needs a transfusion, but her blood type is rare. JAntos assumes that if no one in the family can donate it's because only her father had the same blood type.  Maria tells him that Isa just came to them and Amalia decided to raise her. Paloma overhears and asks if it's true that Isa isn't their sister.  Maria says no.  She came into their lives after their father was dead.  Someone left her at the door…not Amalia's door, but the door of the complex.  She explains they decided to raise her and registered her with Amalia's and Pedro's names, because back then it was easier to do.  But Isa is their sister, because they love her.  Paloma says it's not that she doesn't love her, she just doesn't understand why they didn't tell her.  Maria says they wanted to keep it secret and they didn't want it to change how Paloma felt about her, which Paloma says it doesn't.  When Maria says the blood type is B-, JAntos says he'll go talk to the doctor and they'll find a donor.

A nurse goes to show Amalia the current bill…10,000 pesos.  All told everything will probably be 120,000.  JAntos overhears this information and pulls out his envelope of cash, then tucks it away again.

Ruben is hurrying the nurse at the front desk to bring him the current account, but when she does, JAntos steps in and says he'll pay.  He puts the envelope of cash down on the desk and she says she's not able to accept that much in cash.  Ruben mocks him about raiding the couch cushions for it and says "you poor people" are amazing.  "Some poor guy like you doesn't even know how to open up a checking account.  Besides, it's not enough."  Colosso walks in, followed by the guys and they all slap their bills down on the counter and face Ruben down.  Ruben now makes fun of them for not having heard the lady about not accepting cash.  When he tries to hand over his credit card, JAntos tells her it's important she not accept.  He also notices that a small piece of paper fell out of Ruben's wallet when he pulled out his credit card.  Ruben then yells at the nurse for not hurrying up and taking his credit card, so she says screw it, she'll make an exception, and collects the wad of cash.  The mariachis cheer.  Ruben tells the nurse he'll be speaking to her supervisor, but she just glares at him.  Yeah, Ruben, don't be mocking poor people.  Colosso tells him to get his snooty ass the hell out of there and when he refuses, the guys back Colosso, saying Ruben might not follow the orders of a mariachi, but he'd damn well better follow the orders of 8 of them!  They pretty much order him out and follow him out and JAntos thanks the nurse.  When he picks up the slip of paper he sees his fake name and "Federal Bureau of Investigation" written on it.

Tomorrow: Justo confronts OG; Fernando threatens to tell Maria the truth if JAntos won't; and Maria cries some more.

Well, well, well...maybe Bruno will redeem himself after all!

RL update: The video project is done with filming and is now in post-production. No idea how long it will take to complete, but I'll be sure to let you know when it's up. It's actually a series of six videos, each one about five minutes long and each one shot in both English and Spanish. We wrapped last night just after midnight, and after I'd spent the late afternoon and early evening at an event for my chocolate business. I'll get a few quiet days in now before next week's pops concerts. After that, I'm auditioning actresses as the co-director on a theater production. So much for summer being the "off" season! Not in 5ftLatinaland :)

Great work, Kat. Best line: She tries to trade her life for Isa's, but come on, the Virgen never takes deals like that.

Bruno was always the weakest of that set of lowlifes but I'm still not sure of the condition of his conscience.

Good for Amalia for telling Ruben what she thinks of him. She said what he won't take from Maria. Yes, I can believe he and Lorena have been dysfunctional for longer than he's been chasing Maria, but she is still in the headlights as the proximate cause under the current circumstances.

Also, good for the guys all coming to Maria's rescue with the cash. It needs all those guys at this point to protect Maria from this shark.

One of the mariachis will have Isabel's blood type; my gut is telling me that this will default to cliche and Santos will have it, which negates the ability to return to L.A. tomorrow. This doesn't make him Isa's father but we can't discount the possibility.

How does the chocolate business do in the summer?

Gracias, UA! Last summer it was quiet. I probably took all of June off and then got back to it in July for the opening of the first store I was in. I do think this summer will be a little more active. I'm planning to stop making anything meltable unless it's for a specific order, but I already have one event scheduled where I'm bringing a bunch of mini truffles in about 2 weeks, and hopefully that will generate a little more business.

Fabulous snark just what the episode needed.

I laughed my head off when the boys went for their rainy day money stashes. Apparently mariachi's don't trust Mexican banks.

So Bruno confesses to the last person on earth who would be believed Santo's' mother. I hope Gracia had the sense to tape it. Bruno has effectively signed his death warrant so Whiney better hurry up and marry him or it isn't; going to happen. I can't help but laugh every time I see Bruno. Everyone else on the show is relatively fair skinned and he looks like he's been sprayed tanned enough to compete on DWTS.

The dentist thing was insanely stupid. And please no more of the idiot cops. Derecho really ought to file a sexual harassment suit against that twit. I guess we are supposed to find the whole thing charmingly funny instead of yawningly stupid.

Reuben actually surprised me by not making a scene at the hospital. I guess even he figured a pushing match would be inappropriate.

Poor Gracia looking forward to Santos coming back to LA and he just gave away all the money. Guess they need to set up another money gram.

UA you mentioned Santos being Isa's father I think you meant Concho but time will tell. I was thinking that JAntos wold have the rare blood type needed to save her and for once get him on Amelia's good side. I did think it was odd that maria told the doctor that none of them had Isa's blood type. Didn't think that a poor family in Mexico would have had blood typing done. Heck I don't know my blood type and I have it drawn about 4 times a year.

And where the hell is Sue?

Muchisimas Gracias, 5 Pies, for putting in all the effort it takes to follow the conversations. I missed so much of them. And all the "side" effects made the whole thing hilarious.

Do you think we need to re-name this Mess-ajia, Corona de Lagrimas, The Sequel--Auguas Corrientes? Has there been even one episode where there haven't been tears, sorrow, rain, thunderstorms, accidents-blood, fights-blood?

Maria is vulnerable to men with powerful personalities who want her. She doesn't know how to get them to back off. Although we take it she's managed to keep Colosso at bay for some time, mainly because she doesn't like him. She doesn't like Ruben, either, but she's just the honey pot and they are the bears and the bees.

It seems the Banda isn't as worried about Susanito never showing up or calling in. How much you want to speculate that it will be Susanito throwing himself off the top of the building who has B-Neg blood? Oh, wait, that won't work, he'll need blood to save his life. Will the Banda guys have enough money left to pay for his hospital treatment? Doesn't Mexico have universal health care? Or is it just Amalia that doesn't have health insurance.

Like UA, the best line was the Virgen never taking deals like that.

...Well, cara de impactada de mi! [Bruno can't swear a lie is true--who would have thunk it, si]
...Wendy brings Bruno to dinner. Seriously, Wendy? [You forget, it's all about Meee. Any old confrontation will do as long as she's front ant center]
...Hey, they could have thrown in an ominous "Someone wants to see you." and it still would have seemed plausible [but this is Mejia--at least he hasn't rented the rats (yet) to put in the cells]
...Stupid, stupid, stupid [100% in agreement there]
...Yeah, Ruben, don't be mocking poor people [wait til you know Santos can buy you out 10 times over]

Not only does JAntos nearly get run over (where have we seen that recently...), but when he handily has a bus pull up--and it's the right one--he jumps on, looks frontward and backward. Did he think someone was following him?

Puleeeeze, a piece of paper falls out of Ruben's wallet with Jorge Alfredo Vargas and FBI on it? Why would he even NEED a piece of paper like that--it's not like his memory is faulty, like Chatita in PEAM that has to pull reminders out of her bosom in order to have a conversation!

And we won't even go to the Federal Prison in El Lay. Poor Michael was sound asleep on an aluminum folding bed (I thought those things were made of steel bolted into the walls so prisoners couldn't make weapons out of the pieces.)

Anita La Dama del Queso

Santos is the playboy who finally gets caught in Cupid's trap. Who knows whether some previous girlfriend of his got knocked up? That may not make sense unless he hadn't yet built his fortune, but Isabel's age makes that a borderline theory.

Concho is the more likely suspect there. But who would her mother be?

I don't think the guys worry about each other having medical problems or whatever; they're Macho Men who can take care of themselves. However, this is Maria Bonita's baby sister we're talking about.

I'm sure the band will all have blood tests to see who has B-, but who will get the idea to do DNA tests?

The ultimate irony would be if one of the band members were Isabel's biodad. Fernando or Oscar, ladies?

I'm thinking that Iresma is the mom and maybe Fernando is the dad.

Wow; that would be interesting. I could easily imagine a backstory that could make that happen.

I've been thinking about the suggestions of who the parents of Isa may be. I don't think any of the ones mentioned so far will turn out to be true. Any of these people would be likely to take her away from Amelia. I'll still rule out JAntos because we get the feeling he was never the DF. He's clueless about everything. One of Concho's ladies is a possibility, the band guys not so much because even in cliche ridden novelaland it would be too convenient to leave the baby outside the complex where Maria lives. Anybody could have picked her up.

I'm thinking it will remain a mystery — oh wait novelaland she will turn out to be an angel sent from Pedro to watch over his family. Haven't we had angel characters before - riddenLFMB anyone? And Amelia did refer to her as their angelito.

Does that mean she isn't real?

I don't see Fernando trying to take her away; she's had a good childhood and she is loved. Oscar is still looking to avoid parental responsibility.

Concho doesn't want to rock his own boat right now. Mirna is holding a big secret over his head and it's likely that half his total assets are in Lourdes' name for tax purposes.

The only male character in this story likely to take her away would be Ruben. He's about to divorce Lorena so he would have nothing to lose anymore if Isabel turned out to be his biological child. I was already wondering whether her friend was Ruben's daughter, as we had not seen his children yet.

Love this Who Are The Parents game.

We know Fernando is crazy about Isa, although we haven't witnessed too many interactions between them. I'll leave him on this list.

I'm going to take Santos off the list. We're pretty sure he hasn't been to Mexico before and the ladies he consorts with wouldn't be leaving a newborn at the doorway of an apartment house. We don't want him to be the father, because then his relationship with Maria would take on a euwww factor.

It could be Irasema's illegitimate child, but she didn't really know the Mendez family very well, and still doesn't, except for Maria's relationship with Jorge.

Could it be that Mancia is more than a fortune-teller? She might also be the one that "takes care" of unwanted pregnancies or babies. She lives in the building, knew Amalia to be a loving mother. My guess is that she knows at least who the mother is, but not the father.

We have suspected Concho for awhile now, so he's still on my list. If it weren't Mirna, the mother could have been someone at the bar and he "arranged" for the baby to disappear so Lourdes wouldn't know anything about it. But since we know he had a thing for Amalia back in the day and she rejected him in favor of Pedro, and they had that falling out after that, this might have been his way of staying "close" to Amalia. Or if he gave the child to Mancia, maybe he doesn't know where she ended up.

[Sounds like I'm getting into the Amores Verdaderos weeds now, so I'll quit.]

But wasn't Santos born in Mexico, but maybe not in the capital? He is a Mexican citizen, but that could be because of his father's status.

OK, but he's off the list because he doesn't need any more complications in his relationship with Maria despite looking like a good paternal figure for her. We therefore have four prime suspects:

Concho, Fernando, Oscar, and Ruben.

Since Rodrigo is Oscar's son there would be a definite Ick Factor if he turned out to be Isabel's older brother.

Isabel does not deserve to have Elvira as an older sister, but... she's a tough little girl so she could actually put Elvira in her place.

Fernando has never been truly in love himself. This would come as a huge shock to him, maybe into emotional responsibility.

Ruben has philandered for a long time, so this would not be a shock (to us, but maybe to him). He would have the most leverage in trying to take Isabel away because he would use it to try to get Maria.

The FBI wouldn't have any information on Jorge Alfredo Vargas. He'd have to show a picture of JAntos to get information on him.

Thank you, Cinco Piedes, for a great recap. Some of my favorite bits:

• “Chill, Amalia! The Virgen is on the case!” LOL!
• “Cops. Nothing important. FF>>” My thinking exactly.
• “I love Milamores. I know, I know, the cheating. Just let me ignore that and love him for being an otherwise decent guy, a loyal friend, with a good sense of humor, and capable of focusing on something OTHER than Maria.” Word. This guy is really growing on me.
• “Tomorrow: Justo confronts OG; Fernando threatens to tell Maria the truth if JAntos won't; and Maria cries some more.” Haven’t all of these things happened at least once before?

I agree with Anita’s thinking on Isa's dad. Fernando and Concho seem the most likely to me at this point. Mancia is likely to know something, but as close as she is to Amalia, it seems she might have told her something by now. Then again, maybe Amalia also knows more than she has told Maria. They wouldn’t have Coloso be bio-dad to two kiddos, would they? I don’t think she is Ruben’s, but I was thinking that since we now know that they faked papers for her and she isn’t legally adopted, if Ruben learns this, he could go all lawyer on us and either a) attempt to blackmail Maria by threatening to take Isa away and put her in an orphanage or b) further ingratiate himself to them and help the family legally adopt her.

Whoever Isa’s daddy is, she sure likes JAntos and she seems to me to be a little girl who really, really wants a daddy in her life. She’d be more than happy if it were him, even if technically he were to be her brother-in-law. Maria is like a second mother to her anyhow.

I thought the guys’ money stashes were hilarious – but also pretty realistic. As is Ruben’s asshattery about how the working stiffs don’t have credit cards and checking accounts. Lots of non-rich Mexicans stay away from banks, and I think they have some good reasons for that. Old habits and attitudes die hard.

I think that Isa’s medical care is so costly because Ruben took them to an expensive private hospital. He said it was the best in the city. That’s probably the only place someone from his social and economic class would ever consider going (and me, too, I’d have to say). If they had taken her to a public hospital, it would be free or really cheap. I’m not completely sure about that. I am not sure why Amalia’s care was so costly because I think she was at a public hospital, though it looked really upscale to me for that. I understood they were paying for her drugs, no mention of the care, so maybe they have to pay for drugs or somehow it was not a covered treatment. Or maybe it’s just the Meija merry-go-round. I really have no clue.

Why was Santos on that bus with thousands of dollars of cash in his pocket? He could afford a taxi, methinks. And why, oh why is this guy who already got mugged once and lost all his money which caused him a whole lot of problems ONCE AGAIN going around Mexico City AT NIGHT with that kind of money on him? Slow learner, methinks.

Or maybe of the opinion that lightning doesn't strike twice in the same place? He could also have just retrieved the money.

If Justo frogmarches Bruno to the authorities then maybe Santos doesn't have to return to L.A. to clear his name. He does, however, need cash to keep Ruben away from Maria and her family.

Carolina--How right you are..."Why was Santos on that bus with thousands of dollars of cash in his pocket? He could afford a taxi, methinks. And why, oh why is this guy who already got mugged once and lost all his money which caused him a whole lot of problems ONCE AGAIN going around Mexico City AT NIGHT with that kind of money on him? Slow learner, methinks."

Either that or the writers lost or misplaced the earlier pages and forgot what they had written. Maybet that is why Jorge looked both ways when he got on the bus.

But then again--how long has he been walking around with all that money..in his Traje de Charro, at the bar.... His parents wired it sometime during the day, no? He'd have had to shift it from his regular clothes to his traje at some point. Which reminds me, after getting soaked in the rain, wouldn't it need a good dry cleaning? When did he have time to do that...I've got to stop trying to make sense of all this and just enjoy JS.

Speaking of that hospital how did JAntos and the boys know where to go. I don't remember anyone telling Anna where Isa had been taken.

Oops slaps the side of my head it is Novelaland whre people just know where to go .

Didn't JAntos once mention coming from Monterry? Was that as his cover story or where the Garza family originates.

Decie Girl, yes, you are right about JAntos saying he was from Monterrey. And he said it BEFORE his buddy Michael told him to make up a new identity about himself, so it's probably true. Coloso and Gloria are also from Monterrey, so maybe there'll be some connection in all of their back stories at some point.

UA, if only muggings in DF were as rare as lightening strikes. What a wonderful world that would be. :)

I think it's time I hunker down and fasten the chin strap on my beanie. Attempting to apply logic here is a slippery slope indeed.

"Maybe that is why Jorge looked both ways when he got on the bus."

LOL! That was certainly an overly theatrical bit of nonsense, wasn't it.

UA--JA might have been born in Mexico, but he left before he was old enough to father any children. And Isa's age,(isn't she about 9?) would take him off the list because, according to his own words, doesn't know *his* country and wanted Maria to teach him. I don't think he was mintiendo.

Diecie Girl--Ana did give JAntos some datos before he left. We may not have seen her giving the Banda the same information, but the whole thing does take on the sense of the ridiculous, since nobody uses cell phones unless it's to harm someone with provocative pictures.

Oh, it was Ruben that told Ana in the first place.

DG - JA and the mariachis were told by Ana where Isa was. She overheard when Ruben was telling Maria.

Loved the Mariachis emptying their stashes to come to the rescue.

Ruben definitely directed the ambulance to the 'right' hospital, ostensibly because the best doctor (who just happens to be his buddy) was there, but I think he was shrewdly doing it so that Maria and Amalia would be even more indebted to him. He never imagined the Mariachi-teers would end up there en masse. lol

Dumb: The ambulance taking 900 hours to get to the hospital (lasting through the first and second mariachi sets at the bars) and coming in just seconds ahead of Maria with Ruben and Santos on a city bus with who knows how many stops!

Dumber: Michael, kicking and screaming as he was dragged through 77 miles of cell corridors by two threatening figures dressed in black only to fix the warden's toothache. Really?

Dumbest: Ruben getting that surprised look on his face when Amalia told him that his separation from his wife was an even better reason for him to stay away from Maria. Did he think Amalia would jump up and down for joy and give her blessing for him to court Maria?

I know it doesn't seem like a spoiler if it's already aired in your time zone, but I have not yet had the opportunity to enjoy Friday's episode. Please look for a discussion thread and recap for Friday to go up. Thanks!

Ooops. So sorry. I'll keep my comments to myself. I didn't even think about the West Coast time difference, even though we have a recapper way over there.

Who is the singer and what is the song that is played at the end of story segment as the credits roll?

Thank you.

You outdid yourself with this one, Kat! What a long and involved episodio! Now, to work on my own! LOL!

@Anon: Creo en Ti, I think, but I don't know who sings it. Someone has mentioned it before.
