PEAM #137-9/18/13: What Is Big, Ugly and Permanent? Besides Jessica's Hair Of Course!
Labels: Manda
What an excellent recap! So witty and funny.
Alma is totally clueless isn't she? She knows Chucho is up to something now what could it be? I was laughing.
Also loved Elias formally asking Pato to be his girlfriend. They are the best couple.
I like the meaning of the color of the roses. I think that is why Chucho sent them the way he did, not for the abundance of them.
So, so glad, that Val is allowed to see both her Papas whenever, and NOT when Moronica says. So happy about that. I am so glad Val talked to the Judge alone. I hope Sanson gets to come on the visits.
YaY, Moronica lost and I don't like the previews and what she said to Alma.
I thought for a minute that Ferny would cave to Discua and I am so very glad he didn't. He has way more morals now than Royer. Who knew! I hope this thing with Discua is over now and Ferny tries to win Xochi back. That earring is going to be a problem, even though Ferny and Discua didn't do anything but kiss.
Can't wait to see what Chucho and the gang have set up for this surprise proposal party ; )
Mads- I also enjoyed the Pati Elias scene. Unfortunately, they were interrupted by Jesus. Darn!
Really? Alma can't guess what Chucho is planning? And why would you push so hard to find out the surprise someone is planning for you, unless you don't trust that person?
I am sorry, not!!
What I like from this new ''afro'' is that is not completely round. Have you seen those little things around her neck? It is cute though.
Yay for the judge talking to Val and giving Chucho and Elias rights, but I wish she had taken the time to ask Val about life with her momster. Vero needs to have NO custody, not shared custody. She is toxic, and Rogue's home is a terrible environment for a child.
Hint to Paticakes on how to have a novio: stop talking to him about the last guy with whom you were rolling in the hay!
That blasted earring, I mean really? Frankly nothing was done on that couch that would have made that mini-Frisbee come out. How long does this breakup have to go on?
Sorry, but I'm over this whole Jessica "secret" plot. Longer it goes on, the more stupid the outcome is going to be. For someone who was so enthused to get it on with Ferny, and then get hitched to Cardy, how this suddenly surfaced...monkey writers were bored. Anyway, probably a tattoo or mole ( and most likely NOT big, permanent and anything to get worked up over.)Juarever.
That moment with Val and her two papas should have been the start of a new living arrangement. Smart judge to talk to the child, but oh yeah, we get more manipulations by Vero to cause her daughter heartache I'm sure. Anvil...anyone have an anvil??
So right now, well, I kind of like watching Eli and Pati more than Chucho and Alma. My worry with Pati is at some point she will get pulled back in with Roggggerrrrrr (monkey writers again), but for now, these two are so fun and cute. Nice to see her enjoying a relationship with someone who "gets" her. Agree the whole Marisela offering advice was WTH? to me.
Not terribly excited to see this proposal. It has silly and lame written all over it and I'm sure involves paper and paste for something. But there should be food if this TN holds true and we can enjoy those shots.
Daisynjay
I liked, for instance, when Lucero's mother (Perdigón) got separated from her husband (Ojeda) and didn't come back to him at all.
It would have been lame to see her forgive him and come back as nothing happened. In real life, couples that split don't get back to each other most of the time.
Do, if in this TN everybody is going back and forth between them, and then Pati takes Roger back as if nothing, I would definitely ask someone to shoot me in the head.
Alma already did something stupid allowing Pati back into her life after all she did. Really? Is everybody do juárever they want and split and make up multiple times as if nothing happened? I hate that (too)...
I particularly loved the section about Discua the proclaimed "virgin". You are too funny. I'm glad that Jesus got his visitations rights back for Val.
A question for you, Pablo. Browsing the liquor dept. of my local grocery I noticed not one but two brands of rompope: Santa Clara and Coronado. If I decide to get a bottle to toast a big happy adiós to this novela, which brand would you suggest or is it all the same? I know that it is still a couple of months off but I am thinking ahead. :)
Jarifa
Both brands should be very good. Santa Clara brand is older, and is supposed to have the original recipe from some Nuns.
Coronado is famous for their ''dulce de leche'' or ''cajeta'' made with goat's milk, so I am guessing is good too. I have never tried Coronado's rompope, but their line of candy and sweet stuff.
Some Nuns still make it homemade in México and sell it to raise funds for their Convents. If you know someone in México, ask them, maybe in the future you can get to experience the real deal, if they get you a bottle.
A bit of cultural difference Pablo. In the black community a permanent (relaxer) is what straightens hair, and you're thinking of a permanent wave that was so popular up till the 90s that gave people with straight hair waves or curls.
I am glad you got the joke.
Jessica's Secret probably amounts to nothing. I don't think it's a gender issue, and she said it's not a STD. Moles and tatoos can be removed, so maybe it's a birthmark.
BTW, Cardi did refer to her as his "Chocolate Bonbon", so they finally mention her dark skin. I still want to see how her family looks, so lets get past the secret, and lets have the wedding.
Anyhoo, there is thankfully increased positive reinforcement that going natural is just as beautiful as straightening hair with permanents, and/or attaching additional hair from women around the world with naturally straight hair. Seeing an actress like the one who plays Jessica wearing her natural hair is proof that this is becoming more acceptable. Other than that brief blip in history, during the late 60s and 70s, and mainly in the U.S., that would not have been the case. Keep rocking the curly afro Jess. End of Black Hair 101.
I think it's not about the hair (I read the book ''Happy to be nappy'' just to see what was all the controversy) but the women's mind. If you want to go out bald and if you feel pretty, nobody should care.
Women (and men) should feel comfortable with juárever they have- I saw Oprah's magazine at the HEB register. Does anybody knows why she has that humongous afro on the cover? Is she making some kind of statement?
Haven't seen the Oprah cover. I'll have to look it up on the web. Didn’t mean to stir up trouble, and I'm not upset. Just wanted to make my own feelings about the word “ugly” associated to Jessie’s hair known, and why. Hope I achieved a bit of cultural education while doing so.
You are correct by saying Jessica's natural hair adds to her physical beauty. It is good to see her natural hair style, even though the make-up folks at Telavisa sometimes still have her in "white face" make-up.
She is one of the three most atractive females on this show. Paty, and Alejandra being the other two.
One of your best lines, Pablo. Thanks.
Now onto hair. It's a big topic..for all women. My oldest daughter had extremely thick curly hair and in the 80's she wore it long and wild. An unbelievable cascade of hair. A real traffic stopper.
But when she went to work as a financial analyst, the firm wanted her to straighten it to look more "professional". So now it's chemicalized, ironed, lightened and it's thinned out and I really missed my wonderfully bushy-headed 80's daughter.
She decided to be a stay-at-home mom when her first born was 6 months old but the 80's natural hair has never returned.
Vero doesn't know how lucky she is that the judge restricted her interview with Valentina to the subject of Chucho, and didn't ask anything about Vero. Valentina overheard quite a bit of interesting stuff that could have jeopardized Vero's own custody!
I was surprised that Alejandra initially thought the earrings were Xochi's (or was she just playing dumb)? Xochi doesn't wear big earrings!
I miss the big round afros of the 70s.
I remember a news item, maybe ten years ago, about a flight attendant who wore her hair in cornrows and was told by her employer that it wasn't acceptable because it was "too ethnic." In other words, everything that isn't Caucasian is "ethnic" and too much of that is bad. Arrrrgh. (I don't even remember how the case turned out.)
Anyhow, best exchange:
Patty: You have to support me! You're my pareja!
Rog: That's only because you're blackmailing me.
Patty: Juarever!
Vivi, so when will you post a new selfy so we can see your Afro?
I remember when I was active duty back in the '70s and '80s, the Air Force standard for men's Afros was 1 1/2" in bulk/depth/juarever. First sergeants always kept a standard paper clip in their pocket as an objective 1 1/2" measuring device.
My view is that Fernando needs to get out more and look for another female companion. Discua? Give me a break with that squirrel. Xochitl? A pill who would be a pill even if she had ample 'autoestima.'
And OBTW I see where Albuquerque will be hosting the Pacific Coast (?... juarever) Origami USA Convention, Oct 3-7. No word as to whether Jesus "Chucho" Garcia will be there to demonstrate his angels.
