Mentir Para Vivir #5 Fri 10/11/13 One Fractured Fairytale

Cap 5

Lo Del Pasado:

Silly-Socks de Santos, our P.I. Extraordinaire, calls Abeula Paloma with the news that he’s located Ines and daughter in Guayamas.  Oh happy day!   Paloma is headed for Guayamas the very next day and would go today if she knew where and when.

Lo Del Nuevo:

Doña Paloma calls Ricardo and invites him and Padre Mariano to dinner with the family.

Mad Mathilde and robotic hubby, Robo-Ruben, are curious to know what the dinner preparations are all about.  Why seven plates when they’re only five in the family?  Who knows, says Robo-Ruben in a mechanical monotone. [¡Quién sabe?]  Mad Hilde decides her aunt must be suffering from Alzheimer’s.  Perhaps [¡Quién sabe? = perhaps; who knows?], says Ruben perfunctorily.  (Is he bored out of his gourd, a maliable milquetoast, or just a long-suffering grouse’s spouse hoping to inherit his due after decades of marital immurement, certain that his wife’s inheriting a portion of Paloma’s prodigious pile of pesos will more than make up for a marital misfortune otherwise known as the buzzkill de Mathilde? ¡Quién sabe?)

That night on the way into dinner at his godmother’s manse, Ric mentions to Padre Plaid what a real coinkydink it is that the hotel owners just happened to have a hairbrush of Inés’s for a DNA sample.  They head inside to put on the feedbag with Paloma and family.

During dinner, Paloma informs her family of whom Ric and Mariano form a part, that she’s finally found her granddaughter, Ines and Ines’s little girl, Lina.   Tomorrow they’ll be coming to live with them from now on.  Paloma admits then to cowardice and weakness of character as her reason for not searching for them till after her husband’s death.  Madhilde screeches from the other end of the table that Tía Paloma is a doddering old fool to believe such a fairytale, especially if she thinks this woman isn’t an imposter in cahoots with that P.I. to collect big-time on her tía’s fabulous fortuna.  Ric warns her to watch her mouth, but she screeches him to stick his essentially non-familial nose out of what doesn’t concern him.

After dinner, Mariano and Ric agree that Maddie’s got a mouth on her the size of Mexico City and then some, and will make Ines’s life there a living hell if they let her.  Ric isn’t going to allow her to if he has anything to say about it.

The next day Ric, still suspicious, plans to arrive ahead of Ruben and Dona Paloma in Guayamas and heads straight for Oriana’s apartment where he plays with Alina and waits for the others to arrive.

Oriana has arrived late to work that morning due to a major traffic accident.  Mercedes introduces her to Santos, who explains he’s there on orders of her long-searching, wealthy abuela.  He proceeds to give her a sketchy idea of Ines’s personal family history and how the lady owners of Villa El Descanso handed over a hairbrush of hers for the conclusive DNA sample—just like a fairytale!  Oriana is drop-jawed and saucer-eyed impactada to learn about her supposed good luck and is apprehensive, certain somehow she’ll be found out and this fantasy will fracture, like a cracked window pane when the truth, as it undoubtedly will, comes to light.  Silly-Socks drives her back to the apartment where Ric and Abue Paloma are waiting for her.  The old lady gives her a heartfelt welcoming back into the familial fold.

Oriana/Inez, aka New-nes, tries to refuse the attempt to bring her back to the casota to live, but she’s guilted into it by Ric who explains the old woman has been looking for her for months and isn’t exactly in the best of health—or didn’t she notice; not to mention, there’s a life of luxury awaiting her there.  New-nes scornfully replies (and Viewerville notes the resultant appreciative sparkle in Ricardo’s muy attentive eye) that money has never impressed her.  Eventually 2-nes has no choice but to give in and goes along to get along.  She excuses herself and Lina to get packed.  Meanwhile Ric wonders why 2nes is so reluctant to leave with them; he asks the landlady if perhaps she has a serious boyfriend or something.  The landlady is adamant that 2nes doesn’t date and doesn’t receive visitors of any sort there.

While she’s packing up their things, Oriana makes sure that Alina didn’t accidently give them away.  At the same time, Silly-socks fills in Ric on how he got the hair for the DNA and mentions 2nes seemed close with Raquel while she stayed at Villa El Descanso.

Ric gets more info on 2nes via Sra. Mercedes when he goes to pay her the reward money.  He finds out that Ines is a model mother and employee, very well brought up and well-mannered.  Back at the apartment house he manages to get the phone bill, promising to pay it for the landlady.  He notes the phone numbers, dials, and thus confirms that most of those calls were made to Villa De Descanso. (Duhn-duhn-duhnnnn!!!!)

2nes and Lina finally arrive at the manse and 2nes meets her fractured fairytale family.  Mad-hilde fights the urge to growl and bare her fangs.  She takes her supposed new cuz through the house to her and Lina’s rooms upstairs.   Lina takes an immediate dislike to Mad-hilde.

Raquel gets word from Oriana’s old landlady that she’s moved to the abuela’s fairytale castle in Hermosillo and immediately tells Lucina the good news.  Lucina suddenly remembers that that’s where Ric, old dead Gabe’s sexy son, has his bachelor digs.  Raquel ignores Lucina’s objections and calls Oriana to give her the head’s up.  Oriana screams back at Raq about the nasty jam she and Lucina have put her in, but Raq tells her to live it up and enjoy her new life as a ricachóna [nouveau riche].  How the hell is she going to do that when she’s nothing but a bundle [manojo] of nerves, Oriana hisses back at Raq.

Raq gives Oriana the emergency 411 on Ric being dead Gabe’s son just as Ric walks out to greet her in the ornate brick pavemented area otherwise considred the driveway.  Ric approaches; Ori panics, says she’ll call Raq back and then clicks off.  Ric returns.  Two-nes mentions to Ric that she was talking to a friend from Mexico City and then excuses herself to check on Lina.  She asks the servant, Martin who’d given her the phone, a question before giving Ric another frowning glance and heading inside.  Ric gives Martin the third degree about who called whom and finds out the “unnamed” girlfriend called her at the house instead of the other way round as he was led to believe.  Ric asks what 2nes had asked him before going inside and he explains she was simply asking what Ric’s last name was.  Cara de I’m still suspicious as hell de Ricardo.

In the living room, Padre Plaid wants to discuss the inconsistencies in 2nes’s years of prostitution post age 16 when she left her mother’s friends.  It seems strange that she should be so well mannered and well-educated if she’d been living in a brothel and prostituting herself, says Padre Mariano.   When did she ever find time to absorb the finer things in life like manners, let alone a formal education?  He suggests that maybe she became somebody’s live-in protégé, and that he took the time to instruct her.  (Works for me.  Apparently it does for Dona Pal also.)   Paloma tells Mariano she’s not interested in the details of 2nes’s sordid past.  When and if her granddaughter decides to open up, then she’ll deal with it.  Until then, she’s going to respect her silence.  Ric shows up wanting to discuss the same topic.  Santos, he tells her, said the story was repeating itself.  Was she living the same lifestyle as her mother or what?

Doña Pal forbids Ric from ever subjecting her granddaughter to such vexing embarrassment by mentioning 2nes’s past to her.  She warns him never to mention a word of any of that to 2nes y punto.  Ric says he has no intention of doing anything so disagreeable; in fact he hopes to become a good friend.  Dona Paloma asks him then to take Ines out and show her the sights.  Get her feeling comfortable.  He agrees.

At the same time, back in her bedroom, after Oriana praises Lina for lying to the others there about their being from Monterrey, she gives her a lesson in the value of white lies as being the next best thing when not wanting to lie…..

Down in the living room again, Ric does tell his madrina that he suspects 2nes of hiding something.  Paloma admits she’s had a very sad, very trying life.   “—What did she do?  Kill somebody?”  “—No!  Nothing so drastic!  But, if one day she tells you, then it must be because you’ve earned it.  Neither am I about to tell you the details of my granddaughter’s past life.  That discussion is done, off limits.  However, if you don’t want to take her to see the factory or the sights in Hermosillo, it’s okay.  Ruben or Mariano or Cesar will do it instead.”  Of course he’ll do it, says Ric.  No problema.  Well, don’t try nosing around [hurgar = poke around, pick your nose, jab, provoke] in her personal life, or, she gently threatens, would you like me to tell her about Maria and Sebastian? Ric is suddenly red-faced impactado.  Cara de message received, loud and clear, Madrina! de Ricardo.

A while later, 2nes and Doña Pal take a walk in the garden together.  Ric’s going to find a suitable private school for Lina, she informs 2nes, and please let’s use “tu” and do call me Abuela, ok?  Okay, says 2nes, though it’s going to take some effort to remember. Oriana’s stomach is doing major rollercoaster rolls.  Paloma makes small talk.  “—Ricardo and Mariano have been friends since high school.  Too bad he’s a priest or I’d suggest him as husband material.”  They chuckle a bit at this.

Mad-hilde watches and listens to them from her secret perch on the balcony above.  RoboRuben calls her on it.  Maddie doesn’t like the attention her aunt’s giving 2nes, she tells him.  He says it’s normal to prefer your granddaughter to a niece.  The woman gives her a bad feeling [dar mala espina], she says.  RoboRuben doesn’t see why it should since she’s attractive and a decent sort.  “--If she is soooooo decent, then who’s the father of that child of hers?”  Ruben tsks at his wife’s endearing personality. “—Mathilde!”  (Does this man have the patience of Job, a steely constitution, WD40 for blood, or what?  Inquiring minds want need to know!)

Down below, Abue Pal tells 2nes that tomorrow she’s got a famous couturier coming with a full line of clothes for her to choose from.  She’s her granddaughter and very shortly all of Society will know this.  She’s got to dress appropriately, right?  Anyway, she realizes that 2nes has lived a sad life but, she adds quickly, it’s not her fault.  Abuela Pal admits it’s her own, and says it’s because she was so frightened of going against her husband.  That’s why she didn’t look for 2nes sooner.  (Viewerville notes Oriana and Paloma have something in common when it comes to Abusive Husband Syndrome. It takes various forms, but in the end is all the same sort of social malady.) “—From now on, though, you’re going to live the life you should have!  If I should die tomorrow, I’ll die happily [literally, ‘calmly’].”  “--Oh, no!  Don’t say such a thing!”   Because Oriana’s so decent, she is quickly developing affection for the old gal—and Mad-hilde is just as quickly developing a venal hatred for the ‘intruder’.  Maddie fingers her keys as the two below hug tearfully.

That evening, Abue Pal comes to 2nes’s room and offers her a new phone and two credit cards in her name.  No limit!  (How nice!)  Just then Ric calls the house and 2nes picks up.  He invites her and Lina to tour the city the next morning with him.  She starts to say no, but Paloma insists she accept since it was her idea to begin with.  2nes says all right then.

The next day, Lina and Oriana (along with Viewerville, por supuesto) get a first class history lesson and one in architecture for the period.  It’s obvious from the looks that pass between them that Ric and 2nes are more than a leetle bit interested in one another, not to mention hoping that the feeling is mutual.  (BTW, is anybody else shuddering every time they see 2nes on the grass, the mud, and the wet sand in that pretty little white sundress number she’s wearing?  Curiously, there’s not stain numero uno on her backside afterwards!)

That afternoon, 2nes finds out she’s going to be heiress to the huge factory Doña Paloma owns once she kicks the bucket, and that the next day she’s also going to be assuming the role of a manager there, under Ricardo’s tutelage!  When that doesn’t sit well and 2nes eventually suggests that though she…ahem… never studied at college, but that she’s good at um, math, Abue Pal says wonderful!!  She can be an accountant instead of a plant manager.  She can also get her driver’s licence (and I think formal training as an accountant possibly?)  Oriana realizes afterwards that that means finger printing! (In Mexico a driver’s license calls for finger prints apparently.) Ruh-roh!!  Once Abue Pal is gone, Oriana calls Lucina and frantically explains her newly developing situation and the risk involved, i.e., if she has to use her own fingers.  Loopy Lucina doesn’t see a problem.   “Oh, prints will be checked against any [current] driver’s license or those on her passport, so no problem.”  ( At least that’s what I think the conversation went like.) Oriana is desperate.  “--Well, then I’ve got to know for sure!  Find out!”

At the same time, Pierro--yeah, it’s Fabian looking like a four-eyed geek, but a beefcake of a geek all the same. ¡Ay, Chihuahua!—er… he and Ric are chatting together about 2nes’s supposed history, as far as it goes.  Since he’s not aware of the hooker aspect, that part goes untold.  They do wonder, though, what type of “friends” her mother had and what type of upbringing she must have had before she disappeared off the face of the earth at sixteen.  Ol’ four-eyed de Peer-o submits that just because there are similarities between 2nes and this Oriana, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re one and the same.  They agree that when she disappeared it could have been with a man since she reappeared with a daughter.  Ric brings up the fact that 2nes obviously has studied somewhere and was brought up with a decent set of manners.  He mentions the lie about the phone call Martin told him about.  “--Why lie?”  Peero suggests she’s got a lover or some such.  Ric still wonders why’d she have to lie since he could care less.    Oh, says Peero, I think she’s beginning to matter to you quite a lot!  “--Anyway, there’s a DNA test and a passport that says she’s who she claims to be.”  Yeah sure, says Ric dubiously.  “--Those things can always be falsified and she could still be a fraud.”  Then Ric mentions the phone bill with all those calls to Villa de Descanso, which just happens to be the hotel where his father was murdered!!  Cara de then-that’s-a-horse-of- a-different-color de pie-eyed Peero!

Can't wait, Jardinera.

Ricardo is rightfully suspicious, and it doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to put two and two together and figure out who she really is. Curious how this will play out.

And What is so good???

Our Protagonico isn't "blind" as many galan!!!!!!! I like this.

AlejoP, you took the words out of my mouth.

Most times, for a cover up like this to work, a lot of characters have to be dumped down to such extremes that they become a joke.
But Ricardo is smart, he has suspicions, like he should, and he's trying to gather information the best way he can.
I believe that his quest will be made more difficult by his attraction to Oriana, but his madrina has to come first for now. Of course the poor woman wants to believe this is the truth, but he's not letting emotion cloud his judgment.

I was kind of dreading to see Oriana and Ricardo together, but they are ok - I don't see a huge chemistry between them, but I'm willing to give them time. By the way this tn moves, by capitulo 20 they could be married, for all we know.

Does anyone else think that the 2 guys who slept with Maria that night could be Piero and Mariano? The nicer guy of the two had glasses, just like Piero and maybe the other one, having remorse after the fact, decided to become a priest.
It was said during this episode that Mariano and Ricardo know one another since high school, so I'm thinking this is the story.

Adriana, I agree with you about the Ricardo Oriana match up. Not that ridiculous love at first sight meeting, and I'm glad for it. I would like to see a slow, get to know you, kind of relationship happen instead. Especially since he has suspicions of her.
I figured Piero was the kid in the glasses, as for Mariano? Hmmm. Not sure.

Cathy, the first time I got the vibe that Mariano might be the other guy was when I saw the three of them talking about Fake Ines and Ricardo's suspicions.
Add the fact that Ric and Mariano are long time friends... I could be wrong, but I guess we'll know soon enough.
Anyway, can you imagine having two so called best friends and them letting you believe you fathered a child when one of them is the real daddy?

I liked the normal Ricardo-Oriana meeting scene, too. No love struck gazing, violin music and slow motion awkwardness...
Tns are always so dramatic and over the top, that actually seeing the protas have a normal interaction is kind of great. maybe we even get to see them DATE like REAL LIFE people do before all the drama begins. Can you imagine that?

Adriana, it's possible that Piero and Mariano don't know about her. Since she was discovered with Ricardo, it may have all been hushed up and neither of his friends may know that she got pregnant.

Cathy, you might be right... They did keep the whole thing quiet and we have no reason to believe that Ricardo talked about this with anyone. His parents obviously knew and Paloma, too, but you're right, this is not something you share with your buddies over a brusky.

So glad to see that Jardinera is blogging/recapping today!

I really like Mayrim in this novela. She looks a little older, more motherly and is excellent, IMHO, with her little girl. I am not sure whether they will try to play the love-match between Oriana and Ricardo as two more mature people meeting up or as a younger couple -- a mistake, I think. In either case, they seem good together if not red hot.

Just so glad to be watching something that is testing the declining gray matter a bit.

Can't wait, Jardinera!

For now, I'll just say that I am liking the pace of this story and look forward to each episode!

Fatima

Okay. It's finally up. Yeah, I'm liking the fact that Ric isn't the normal stupid, oblivious Romeo type. He just may be the more mature, less eager, love interest Oriana as an older, stable mother and professional woman might like to associate with and be attracted to. He's apparently playing an older, wiser, established businessman who's been playing the role of secondary dad/big brother to Sebastian for a while now. The two personalities would be well suited even if there is a couple of years' worth of age difference. This I see as credible.

Gracias Jardinera! What an enjoyable recap, and thanks for taking the time to clarify some of the plot points.

"BTW, is anybody else shuddering every they see 2nes on the grass, the mud, and the wet sand in that pretty little white sundress number she’s wearing?" Yes yes YES! It was driving me crazy. Especially when she was sitting on the RED dirt.

I was surprised when Paloma told Ines that Ricardo and Padre Plaid were in school together. The Padre seems quite a bit older to me. Beanie time I guess. So Ricardo's best buds are PadreP, Pierro and the other guy Antonio.

I like Mad-hilde's (love the name) two kids. They seem genuinely nice and are both gorgeous. They even look like brother and sister. Good call on Robo-Dad. That guy was cracking me up..."¡Quién sabe?", snort!

Thanks!

Capn Sylvia: So glad to see you along for the ride this time around. Yep, Mad-hilde's kids are pretty modelos, los dos. Too nice looking and acting for having popped outta that gritch.

2nes -- that alone makes it a great read.
Thanks, J. Inspired.

Again, you reign with the nicknames. I like Silly-Socks Santos, Padre Plaid, that's better than father plaid, and the best is Madhilde.

I was expecting Ricardo to know someone who went to school in Monterey when Inez said she went to school there. Lucky for her he didn't.

But a big question, why doesn't Inez have a
Columbian accent? And therefore giving herself away?

cathyx: Accent: We know from the sinopsis: Oriana was born in Mexico, and she moved to Columbia with his husband years ago.

Jardinera:

Wonderful, superb recap and I really like all the nicknames you give the characters.

I too wondered if the Padre, Piero and Ricky were all childhood friends. I like how they are trying to solve the puzzle that is the enigma of Oriana/Inez.

I wonder how OI can keep all her secrets straight along with Lina. I wonder if Lina will ever mess up one of them.

I really like Paloma. She is very sweet and noble. Mad-Hilde on the other hand is on her witchy broom and I hope she flies off of it at some point. I can't believe how nice her kids are either. Maybe they were adopted? One can hope. The Dad is sweet but oh, so dull. I would rather he gave her whatfor. Thanks again Jardinera!

Priests get to wear plaid? Bright blue plaid?? I had no idea they could be so fashionable. You know, in a wild west kind of way.

I watched one episode just to check it out. Should have known better because now I'm in. I like seeing the scenes of Sonora, and La Fuerza was such a good show, I expect this one to be the same. Not especially a fan of David Zepeda, but so far here he's not so bad.

Anyone know if this writer is from Sonora? I'd check Wikipedia, but it's wikipedia.

Kelly

CathyX,

Forget Oriana. I was wondering why Alina doesn't have a Columbian accent.

Cynderella

TravLady/Mads/Cathyx: Thanks. Glad you liked the nicks, but I can't lay claim to Padre Plaid. I think that was Kat's.
========
AdrianaNoel: "can you imagine having two so called best friends and them letting you believe you fathered a child when one of them is the real daddy?" Not on your life! I really got miffed thinking Mariano could actually become a priest and wouldn't have confessed to the rape, let alone what you've said. Somehow I don't think he's the only other friend from high school days. If there's a third friend of Ric's I don't remember his being mentioned, but then the story and the slang were moving along so fast.....

Ric's friends are Padre P, Pierro and Antonio who came to the funeral.

Wiki just gives the producer, Rosy Ocampo, she is from D.F.

I was pretty sure DZ wasn't bowlegged as said the other day. He was runner up In Manhunt Int'l 2000.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7dw99CzEJc

He is from Nogales, Sonora

Double your pleasure, DZ & WL

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gCnUH-eJK2c

Variopinta- Ok, you convinced me. DZ is great! :)

Kelly

Jardinera! You crack me up!!

New-nes, 2nes, "does he have WD40 for blood" (I could NOT stop laughing at that one!!)Madhilde (VERY appropriate), "beefcake of a geek"...the list is endless. You had me laughing at these wonderful names.

I gotta say, there are some really big lies, counter-lies, twisted stories, etc going on here. I kept having this low level of anxiety that Oriana's handsome hunk of a scheming, lying husband was going to show up any minute. Actually, I knew it could not possibly happen now, but the mere possibility was putting me on edge.

I think the thing that strikes me right off the bat is that all of the characters seem believable so far.

So, just how long will Little Lina be able to keep up with all of these little white lies? Kiddos have an interesting way of coming up with inconvenient truths when least expected.

Mil gracias, Jardinera!!!

Fatima

Fatima: Tks again, but again I don't lay claim to New-nes--I thought Kat came up with a version of that first.
0 : ? )
=========

Skinny jeans have a tendency to make most guys look bowed legged. The thinner ones look the most bowed no matter what. Maybe that's why baggies and flare/boot bottoms have had their hay day over the years. I'd say dear DZ is no exception and he looks pretty darn decent otherwise IMNSHO.

I had never seen a good picture of my telenovio FC legs, so I feared they maybe weren't so good. Finally, I did, just as I thought, he is PERFECT.

I enjoyed this episode so much, I had to see it again. Here are my Odds 'n Ends thoughts after the second go 'round

--Oriana/Ines and Ricardo are a very believable couple. I think they are matched well and they are allowing the chemistry to slowly build between them. I like how there are moments of clearly enjoying each others company interspersed with very appropriate moments of questioning and backing off.

--Alina looks like a good child actor. I'm liking the kid and I am not one to go for the kids in the TNs I have seen.

--It was good that Oriana/Ines told Alina/Lina that it hurt her deeply to have to ask her to tell these lies. I know it sounds crazy, but you wonder how this will impact the kid somewhere down the road

--Really loved the emotion between Abuela and Oriana/Ines when they first met. I thought it was excellent acting on the part of both actresses with each one conveying so much in that very moment

--When Oriana/Ines looked at Alina Lina during that hugging scene with the Abuela, the kid's shrug of her shoulders and look on her little face was priceless

--Matilde is a grown up Rhoda Penmark with a face filled with hate (and why, I ask?) The hate looks like it was there long before Oriana/Ines appeared on the scene

--Ruben seems reasonable. Why in the world is he with Matilde?

--I could not have made the Hermosillo tour wearing stiletto heels. I love my high heels, but for a tour?!

--There are a number of good backstories just waiting to be developed including the Maria/Sebastian story and the Lucina/Raquel story. They are just so glib about the lying. There has to be a reason why

--Especially enjoyed the convo between Piero and Ricky at the very end. Imagine, these two men are thinking things through! I LIKE it!!

Fatima

Darn, I forgot one more:

--I like Ricardo and will be adding David Zepeda to my list of "take home" galans.

Fatima

Sorry, one more:

--Oriana/Ines slipped one time, but no one (Abuela or Ricardo) caught it, she called Lina "Alina" and made a face like she had made a mistake. It was very slight, but still there. Given how on edge Oriana/Ines has been, I'm surprised this is the only "mistake" she's made.

Fatima

MPV is on now, must be from the beginning, on 'til 4PM

Fatima, maybe they thought that was the personnel "a"

Variopinta, yes, could be. :) Thanks for the heads up on the reruns from the beginning!

Fatima

I just watched most of the MPV marathon. I missed a lot. I watch Santa Diabla so catch this on Uvideos. They must cut a lot, even though it says it last about 48 min. Guess I'll have to start taping.

Great recap Jardinera! I loved the title.

Also thank you to Paquita and 5ft Latina for their recaps. I love them all.

Jardinera, I loved how you noticed that Paloma's husband's actions were another form of abusive behavior. He is the villain in Paloma's story and I can't help but feel bad for Inés because she was born in the worst conditions when she could have enjoyed a much happier existance. I also can't help but feel sad for Paloma for the moment when she inevitably realizes that she never could do anything for her grandaughter.

Cathyx: I also liked that meeting between Oriana a and Ricardo. I wish more writers and producers would follow that line of first meeting between the leads.

I had to laugh when Raquel told Oriana to just enjoy her life as a ricachona lol, because that's exactly what Raquel would do if she were on Oriana's position. The joy of all that money would surpass her worries.

And yes, driving licences require finger print identification. I don't understand Lucina's reasoning about using the finger prints in the passport since they capture both of your index fingers in that electronic device every time you have to renew your licence (every 7 years). If Inés ever had a driver's licence, Oriana's fingerprints won't match the ones they have in the system already.

Jarocha

Jarocha
Glad to see you here. I miss getting your take on things. How is this going in Mex? Can you get Telemundo? Santa Diabla is fantastic.

I got my drivers license sooooo long ago, I know they didn't get fingerprints. I don't know if they do that in the US now, but it does seem like a good idea.

This is a TN, they'll think of sth. So many get false ID's, probably no problema. Lucina for sure has a friend.

What fun it is again to be watching the TN that Jardinera is recapping on Fri. You know how much I love your stuff and I think that this TN is perfectly suited to your style.

I'm getting a kick out of Matilde and Lina's reaction when she appeared was perfection. Good job, kid.

I cannot imagine that the priest was involved in the assault on Maria. Surely he would not let Ricky go through life thinking that he was responsible. He seems quite pure of heart.

I can just imagine sitting on that veranda at Villa el Descanso in the late afternoon and sipping cervezas in the company of Raquel and Lucina. Paradise.

Carlos

Carlos, I try to imagine myself relaxing at the Villa as often as possible. We tried to sail over to San Carlos but ran out of time. Now I regret it after all those lovely marina shots.

I also find it hard to believe the Padre is the one who took advantage of Maria. Urban A's weekend post on typecasting has led me to suspect another of Ricardo's friends.

I just thought of something else: I LOVED it when Oriana/Ines made the sign of the cross right after Matilde took her up to her rooms in the house. I just loved it! It was perfect as was the music for the scene. :)) Little Lina did a wonderful job of expressing her almost fear of Matilde. That woman would have scared me, too!

Fatima

P.S. Today, I saw the Jaime Camil movie "Pulling Strings". It was great fun with good music. Camil was muy, muy guapo!! Another must see.

Jardinera - Thanks. Love of the nicknames. Oriana sitting on the wet sand in the white dress drove me crazy too.

So both Oriana and Ricky are sitting on big secrets.

I don't think that Piero was Ricky's "childhood" friend. He introduced him to Lila and Berto. Well, he could be, but wouldn't your BFF know who your stepmother is?

Cynderella

Thanks for the recap Jardinera.

Cynderella

I too watched MPV marathon (Uni did 5hours into 3) this Sunday afternoon. I first saw DZ in Sorti and I think he's real handsome. Didn't watch the one with A Boyer cuz can't stand everything fake/redone about her face.

Thus far, I like this tn. I am not a fan either of love at first sight stories. And I like the fact the DZ's character is smart.

Also, there doesn't seem to be over the top yelling and crying; what a relief. Hope it stays that way.

I'll give this another couple of weeks, to see if I stay or bail.

Sorry, recappers. I didn't have time to read any of your work, but thanks for your time and effort.

Shallowgal, hi! I'm one of the recappers on this one and I think it's really good. I hope you stick with it, so far we're all pretty pleased with it.

Cynderella, maybe Piero doesn't know Lila and Berto because Ricardo himslef didn't interact much with them, Gabriel made a point to Oriana about the fact that he doesn't live with his 2 sons, which now we know, too.
I guess we're all having a big difficulty thinking that Piero or padre Plaid had anything to do with the rape because they are both likable/ one is a priest. But could the young guy wearing glasses in the flashback be just a red herring? I doubt it...

Carlos & Sylvia, I love the patio the dynamic duo has at the villa...I think it's the perfect personalization of the type of patio we always talk about (and we deserve!) ...whenever they start sipping that bear, my mouth is all watery... no fair!

Madelaine, I found Paloma's scenes very touching, she even made Oriana cry - I don't remember seeing the actress in another tn, but she's really amazing in the part.
And, yes, how crushing to find out that she didn't find her grand-daughter after all. But I hope by the time that happens she'll be so in love with Ori and Alina, their presence will have really made a difference in her life.

Have you all noticed the big portrait in Ori's new room? Mad-hilde said it used to be her fake-mom's old room, so I guess the woman on the wall is Palomita, abuela's daughter. The resemblance between the deceased and Oriana is really amazing, much bigger than the one between her and real Ines. Maybe she had twins, who knows?

I remember the fingerprints bit for licenses was part of another tn, not long ago, but I can't remember which one.
The talk between Luci and Ori was Ori asking whose prints were used in her fake passport (if hers or Ines'), Luci saying she didn't know and then Ori wondering if the authorities would check to make sure the passport and the driver license prints matched...
Even more clues for Ricardo to investigate, I guess...

AdrianaNoel: thanks for the clarification on the fingerprints scene between Lucina and Oriana. I didn't capture it for translation that well for whatever reason and the finer points slipped past, obviously. ;>)

Carlos: I am glad you'll be adding your style of weekender wit to this tn along with Capn Sylvia. It'll be worth the cost of the toothpicks for propping the ol' eyelids open.....

=========
Jarocha: I hope you'll continue to jump in and to spice things up regularly with lessons Mexican Culture as well. You are always our VIP viewer in Viewerville and hold the key to the city. LOL!

Cynderella: "Forget Oriana. I was wondering why Alina doesn't have a Columbian accent." Touchet ole! Frijolito time.

Madeleine: I was thinking about Madhilde's kids and thinking that even the milkman wouldn't have been that hard up. So, nope, they couldn't have been his......

Adriana, the show that we had a fingerprint on the drivers license was Amor Bravio. And given your avatar, I'm a little surprised you forgot that, lol.

Cathy, I did think about Amor Bravio, but I couldn't remember the exact sl concerning the prints... was it about Daniel, his fake identity, no documents sl?
In my defense, I have to say that I used to watch back to back episodes of AB, sometimes as much as 5 at a time (I discovered the tn long after it started airing in Mexico, so I had a lot of catching up to do), so some of the details might have slipped thorough the cracks...
And yet, you are right, I should be ashamed. :)

I was just teasing you Adriana. The fingerprints on the license had to do with Dionisio's fake IDs and trying to find out who he was. They also put fingerprints on their marriage licenses.

Cathy, I know you were joking.
I couldn't remember the detail had to do with the Dionisio part, his story became such a bore after a while... I'll never forget how much time they wasted with that stupid suitcase and the whole plan to steal it.

I never thought any part of that show was a bore. It always kept me on the edge of my seat and anticipating the next show every day. I use that show as a model for how I want all other TNs to be.

Cathy, you were a better fan than I was, then. I think Amor Bravio was one of the best tn this genre coudl ever come up with, but near the end I think it really showed the effort they made to add episodes.
Up until Miriam arrived and a while after that, the story still had a nice, realistic pace, but then we were subjected to that whole one day in 3 episodes madness, Camila always crying, Daniel looking like a clueless shmuck... Just my opinion... I still watch C&D scenes all the time and sigh like I did at first viewing.

Ahem... back to Mentir, though...maybe Oriana just says she doesn't want to drive because her husband, Lina's father died in a car accident and she's scared of cars... I don't see her actually going ahead with having her prints taken, she's much too afraid she'll be discovered.

Adriana, I, too, thought that the portrait in Oriana's room did bear a strong resemblance to her. What a coinkydink (as Jardinera would say!).

I love the beautiful home where this is filmed and would dearly love to have a patio like that!

Do you have any information as to this house in real life? I'm assuming it is some huge hacienda in Hermosillo?

Fatima

Loving the recappers. I read the recaps first and have been catching up with the eps via Univision's website-it's spotty, but works-and the recaps were spot-on. I'm totally watching this one since it's good and logical.

I disagree though, that Oriana's hubby was abusive-selfish, greedy, craven, yes, but not abusive. Oriana wasn't too surprised that he was doing something shady-what enraged her was that he did it in her name getting her and Alina involved in something illegal.

.This was a role that could've easily gone llorona, with Oriana whining and crying about losing her J desdestablished life and hubby but Oriana kept it pushing, went back to Mexico and basically told her husband to drop dead because she wasn't gonna support a husband that selfish. Alina is the only one who misses Jose Luis-Oriana could care less about him outside of traumatizing Alina by telling her her daddy's dead. Abused women don't act that empowered while deep in an abusive relationship. And I'm glad Rosy Ocampo and Televisa allowed Oriana to be portrayed that way.
