Caray, Caray!

Zeke tells Lucina that he noticed Inés' name in the guest book, so she thinks fast and tells him she didn't notice it since she must have been out of town when the guest arrived.  Zeke goes off to his room as Raquel comes in, happy to see they have another guest…until Lucina informs her that he's a PI looking for Inés Valdivia.

"Inés" is doing a great job at the store and her boss praises her way with customers.  She asks if she has a boyfriend, but Inés tells her that ain't nobody got time for that, what with work and taking care of her daughter.

Lucina and Raquel splash their feet in the pool while Raquel fusses about how nervous she is.  Zeke shows up in his version of resort wear and somehow the ladies don't expire from shock at his total absence of leg showing despite being in shorts.  Lucina goes to fix him another drink while Raquel feeds him their concocted story about Inés…and gets him to take his socks off.  She's a humanitarian, that Raquel.  Anyway, Raquel tells him that Inés was only there three days, paid in cash, went out during the day, came back in the afternoon, and then locked herself in her room.  They never talked, she never said anything about where she was from and only put "DF" in the register.  Lucina comes back with his drink as Zeke tells them that Inés is the only heir of a rich woman who hired him to find her.  Inés has no other family and was taken in by hos. Presumably with hearts of gold.  Raquel tells him Inés certainly never brought any men back to their establishment, while Lucina finds out that no, neither Zeke nor grandma has ever seen Inés in the flesh.  Lucina quickly reminds Raquel that before she left, Inés was asking about how to catch a bus to Guaymas.  Raquel follows her lead and agrees, though she has a harder time when Lucina adds that they took a picture of Inés with a young girl at "Mr. Anderson's birthday party."  Raquel looks pissed as Lucina keeps piling it on, talking about how "Raquel said" that Inés showed up with a little girl, but she sticks to Lucina's story.

Back in Lucina's room, Raquel calls her nuts and says there's no way Inés, aka Oriana, is going to accept this.  "Well, she's crazy if she doesn't!"  But what if her old brothelmates remember her?  What about DNA?  Oh, Lucina's got the answer to the DNA problem, cause she's seen on TV how they can do that with just one hair, and they've got Inés' personal effects, including her hairbrush.  Damn.  She must watch a LOT of TV to be coming up with this crazy plan so quickly.  Raquel's a little pissed about Lucina feeding this whole story to the PI, but Lucina reminds her that she also got Oriana the hell out of town, got her a new passport, and all because she's Raquel's BFF.  Lucina figures it would be nice for Oriana to stop living in a dodgy rathole and working in a shop and become some nice old lady's spoiled granddaughter.  Raquel grudgingly agrees that, yes, Oriana hit the jackpot.

The American guest utters some obligatory Spanish.  Lucina tells the desk guy that if PI Santos asks, Inés Valdivia stayed with them for 3 days, then left with her daughter.  He's surprised, but agrees.

Out on the beach, Zeke calls Inés grandma and tells her that he found the place she was staying in San Carlos and that she went to Guaymas.  He's sure he'll find her because the hotel's owner has a picture.  She's dying to see it.  He also gives her the happy surprise that she's not just a grandma, she's a great-grandma.

Zeke is a little suspicious, because the picture Lucina gave him has someone cut out of it, but he accepts her explanation that she didn't want to involve any of the other guests.  Lucina asks him how he's going to be sure this is the right person, since it would be really awful to get a nice old rich lady all excited for nothing.  Couldn't it be just a coincidence?  Zeke doesn't think so, mostly because the last name "Valdivia" isn't very common.  Lucina tells Zeke that "Inés" was pretty messy and left some stuff behind in her room when she checked out, so she held on to it, just in case.  She suggests that maybe a look at the stuff might help them determine whether this is the Inés he's looking for or he can go about his business.  Zeke almost giddily asks to see it.

Ricardo visits some rathole-looking place and gives a guy sitting out front some money.  He's here to see "Maria" who is sitting inside clutching a doll…why is it always dolls?...and remembering a young Ricardo, drunk off his ever-loving ass, passed out on a lawn somewhere while his friends turned their attention to her, the gardener's daughter.  She's ok with the flirting, but she really had eyes for Ricardo.  Although, she appears to have been won over by one of the creeps telling her she was pretty.  An older woman appears, in the present, to give Maria her medicine.  Ricardo brought her some chocolates and another doll…dude, please, quit with the dolls.  He gets Maria to take her medication, as her dad, the ex-gardener, tells him that Maria only every pays any attention to him, so maybe he should take Maria to live with him.  In the past, we see that Maria ended up only-mostly-dressed, lying with passed-out-Ricardo on the lawn and her dad assumed he was the one who done the deed.  She tries to explain that that's not how it went, but Benigno, the gardener, won't listen.  He threatens to have Ricardo locked up if he doesn't marry Maria, since she's a minor.  Ricardo tries to explain to Gabriel that he doesn't remember what happened.  Gabe is pissed his son messed with a minor, and not only that but someone with "that problem" (what problem, he doesn’t say).  Ricardo wants to do the right thing and marry Maria, but Gabe tells him that's ridiculous.  They've already worked it out with Benigno.  Ricardo will go abroad and if Maria is pregnant, Gabe and his wife (Ricardo's mom or the younger model?) will register the child as theirs and raise it.

Ricardo visits the priest who appears to be both his friend and his godmother's, and who also appears to be a fan of boxing as a form of exercise.  He tells him he always feels so guilty after seeing Maria, not so much because of her "illness" but because of what he (thinks he) did to her.  Father Boxeador tells him he was a drunk teenager…not that he's excusing the behavior, but kids do make mistakes.  Fr. Boxeador wants Ricardo to tell Sebastian that he's not his brother, but his father.  Ricardo is reluctant to do that.  He doesn't think Sebastian will react well to finding out he's the son of a sick woman and the grandson of a gardener.  Hey…mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be classist assholes.  Fr. Boxeador tells him he'll never be happy if he doesn't unburden his soul.  He tosses Ricardo a pair of gloves.  Um…I haven't been Catholic for a long time, so I'm really not up-to-date on all the rules...is it really ok for him to hit a priest?

Zeke takes his leave of Lucina and apologizes for leaving so quickly, but he's been working this case for a really long time.  Lucina advises him to run the DNA test on the hair in the hairbrush before doing anything else, just to make sure.  Raquel waits for him to leave before de-skulking and Lucina tells her that she sent Zeke off with some of the real Inés' clothes and the hairbrush.  Raquel wants to call Oriana and warn her, but Lucina tells her absolutely not to.  Oriana will know what to do when the time comes and if she mucks it up or wants to spill the beans, that'll just be too damn bad for her and she'll end up in jail.  OK, normally, I'm a little shocked at Lucina's hair-brained schemes, but I think they'll work.  I don't know if I can back her on this play, though.

Nueva Inés goes back to her don't-those-doors-look-recycled-from QBA apartment with its continuing steady leak.  Her daughter won't get up to give her a kiss because she's absorbed with finishing a puzzle.  The woman who watches her, or potentially a non-live-in maid, tells Inés that she left her some fideo and some chicken soup with veggies on the stove.  Inés finds out that Alina (I thought we were going with just "Lina" now?) hasn't done her homework and sends her to get her notebooks and get to work.

At Paloma's house, PI Zeke is being blocked by Paloma's niece, who at least for appearance's sake claims she's worried about him being a con man, so she refuses to let him in until he tells her why he's there to see her aunt.  Ricardo comes in, mid-shouting match, and then Paloma arrives, refuses to tell her niece why Zeke is there either, and sends her to get drinks.  Paloma apologizes for her niece's attitude.  She wants Ricardo to stay, though and hear the news.  Zeke hands her the picture, and Paloma tells Ricardo that her daughter died, but this is a picture of her granddaughter and great-granddaughter.  She introduces Ricardo to Zeke and fills him in on Zeke's work to date.  Zeke explains he still has to find them.  Ricardo is happy for her and asks Zeke how he managed to find them.  Paloma cuts Zeke off before he talks about the ho-ing part.  Zeke tells Ricardo he found a little hotel in San Carlos where they'd been…Villa el Descanso.

Ricardo tells Piero and Fr. Plaid about this strange coincidence with the hotel and two women with children around the same age.  Ricardo assumes the truth, as far as Raquel and Lucina trying to hide their friend is concerned, but misses the mark in suspecting Zeke of trying to collect on his godmother's promise of a healthy bonus for finding her granddaughter.  Piero asks if the picture of the woman matches the police sketch, but Ricardo doesn't trust the sketch since it was based on info given by Lucina and Raquel.  Piero thinks they should let her show up and then set some traps for her.  Ricardo is intrigued because his godmother cut Zeke off before he could say anything more about Inés' "past" besides that history had repeated itself.

Whatserface, the crabby scheming niece, pushes some distrust of Ricardo in her aunt's direction and pleads to have someone from the family help manage the factory, like her son Cesar.   Whatserface's husband chimes in that Cesar did graduate top of his class.  Auntie Paloma gives in and says she'll see what Ricardo thinks.

Crabby Niece gripes about how her aunt doesn't really care about the factory and shooed her away when the mystery man came to talk to her, but oh, Ricardo gets to listen to allll the conversations.  Niece's daughter, Fabiola comes in to get permission to go to a party, but Matilde (I'll try to remember that's the crabby niece's name) says she's too young, despite her husband's objection.  When Fabiola says it's at "The Cantu's" Matilde then informs Cesar that he'll be taking his sister to the party, and that his great-aunt has agreed to give him a job at the factor with Ricardo.  Cesar mostly looks confused at this news.  Even though he complained about not wanting to go to the party, he confirms with his now-giddy sister that he will take her.

Nueva Inés calls Raquel to ask if everything's still going ok and if anyone has asked after Inés Valdivia.  Raquel doesn't really answer, just tells her to frickin' chill already, no one's coming after her for Gabriel's death.  They get off the phone and Raquel tells Lucina that she now agrees with her--Oriana is nervous enough without also knowing about the PI.

At a hospital, Paloma explains to Zeke that she doesn't want anyone to know about Inés' past so that Inés won't feel uncomfortable when she gets there.  The doctor taking Paloma's hair sample shows up to escort them back and explains that the results will take about a week to obtain from a trusted lab in DF, but he can have them speed it up a little.  Zeke shows him the hairbrush with the sample from "the other person."

Santiago comes to pay a visit to his brother/daddy's home, being his usual snotty self.

Ricardo is inside the house, talking to Manolo, who informs him there has been no progress in finding Oriana Caligaris.  He confirms that the daughter was around six years old, and no, they didn't do a sketch of her or send one out because she's a minor.  Santiago comes in and Ricardo tells him he was talking to the cop in charge of looking for their father's murderer, but he hasn't found her.  Ricardo swans off while his mother waltzes in and tells Santi it's his own damn fault his credit cards cut off since he wasn't behaving himself.  Santiago is positively drooling to get his hands on Papi Gabe's estate, but Gabe didn't make a will, so Mami has no idea what happens now.  Santi looks concerned.  I'm betting there's some massive drug and/or gambling debt going on here.

Lucina and Raquel recap all the things they're on the hook for if their nutso plan for Oriana doesn't work out.  Manolo shows up to visit and score some free booze.  Lucina complains to him that no one's visiting because of the recent deaths there…uh, nearby, that is, since the drowned woman wasn't a guest.  Manolo tells them that the dead guy's son refuses to let them close the case. Lucina advises him to look in some other countries and asks about the husband.  Manolo tells her he's not really important enough for the government of Columbia to keep him posted.  "Oh, but you're important enough for me to give you free drinks," Lucina jibes.  As Lucina and Manolo keep ribbing each other and flirting, Raquel looks uncomfortable.

Sebastian's a little snot.  He's grumpy because without a will, he and his "dad's" latest tramp will get the same size portion of his "dad's" estate.  Ricardo is grumpy because Sebastian has no desire to study and no ambition beyond getting his hands on the (alleged) inheritance his mother left him that's supposed to be his when he comes of age, and getting his hands on some of Papi Gabe's estate.  He throws in that since Ricardo's older than him, he'll end up getting his hands on Ricardo's money eventually, too.

Paloma wants Zeke not to do any further investigating until the have the DNA results back.  She agrees to let him publish the picture in the paper and offer a reward for information.  As he leaves, Matilde comes up, wearing her usual sour face, asking where her aunt went with that guy.  She gets pissed when her aunt won't give her details beyond "we had coffee."  When Matilde reminds her about talking to Ricardo about Cesar, Paloma has Matilde put the call through.  Paloma does ask him to hire Cesar, and Ricardo agrees.  Matilde is just too damn noise with all those bells.  She bitches at Paloma for asking Ricardo to hire Cesar, rather than just "ordering" him to.  Can we fire Matilde?  I've had about enough of her already.

Nueva Inés is the awesomest salesperson ever.  A guy comes running in with her boss' newspaper. Nueva Inés looks nervous as her boss starts to read the paper, and doesn't calm down even when she leaves her paper to help Inés put clothes back on the racks. 

Inés tells Raquel that she gets nervous every time her boss reads the paper and Raquel tells her to take a chill pill already!  There's been nothing in the papers for days at least.  Inés complains about wanting to get a better job, but Raquel tells her that will have to wait.  Inés cries that she misses Raquel and doesn't have any friends there.

Fr. Plaid lets Paloma know that Ricardo told him about Inés, and that he doesn't believe it's really her.  He seems to admire Paloma's ingenuity (or should that be ingénue-ity) in doing the DNA test with hair from Inés' hairbrush.

Matilde fusses over her grown and annoyed son, telling him to keep an eye out because Ricardo might be cheating them and they'll be left with nothing after Paloma dies.  Cesar seems to be a decent sort, pointing out that Paloma's going to live a long time.  As he heads off to his interview, he rushes through the patio, ditches his tie with the gardener and starts taking off his jacket, too.  You go, Cesar!

Inés asks her boss for some time off to go pick Lina up from school, since she had a bit of a cold earlier.  As she leaves, her boss notices the ad in the paper.

Fr. Plaid and Paloma look at the DNA test results and they are positive.  Congratulations…it's a girl!  Who drowned!  Yeah, well, we'll get to that part much, much later.  Paloma gives Zeke the news, then swears Fr. Plaid to secrecy regarding Inés past.

Inés' boss calls the number in the paper to give Zeke the deets on her employee…but first she wants to know why he's looking for her.  She accepts his answer that her grandmother is looking for her and tells him that Inés is a hardworking, polite, all-around-nice broad.  She really perks up when he tells her grandma is rich, and lets him know that Inés usually arrives at work around 10am….

Zeke calls Paloma to tell her the target has been acquired.

Tomorrow: Zeke shows up with the good news, Inés meets her new family, and Ricardo and Inés are in some deep, deep smit!
