The really big news is that Tito finally got his break playing a near victim last night and made Lassie's heart go pitty-pat.

Oriana heads out of the manse’s compound that night, using an excuse to Martin of wanting to walk her dog and get a bit of fresh air, in order to meet up with Jose Luis. Jose Luis and Oriana meet a few blocks down from the manse “—This better be worth my time and not some trap of yours!” She and Tito get into his car for the convo. JL tells her they have a dangerous enemy. She immediately jumps on him about insulting Ricardo. JL stops her and says it has nothing to do with Ricardo. “—We aren’t going to mention his name again during this chat because despite everything, I've never stopped loving you. He’s there to get the two of them back (no matter what web of lies they’ve got to continue to weave, we can be sure). “—I know I made a huge mistake, but…“ Don’t bother explaining, she tells him, because no matter what, she will never ever, ever forgive him!

Jose Luis, aka
Francisco Castro, now is death-grip impactado to hear from Berto (FYI the
skin-headed, disgusting, redneckish, rich ex-boyfriend of Lucia in LFDD) who’s
just told a whopper about defunct BIL, Gabriel, having been caught molesting
six year old Alina when he saw Oriana/Ines take the gun and blow Gabe away at
poolside. “—Are you telling me that he
molested my daughter?” Ruh-roh!!
Lo del Nuevo:
Berto now accuses
JL/Fakecisco of being Oriana’s husband and then JL appropriately throws Berto’s greasy,
lying, stinking backside onto the bed.
“—How do you know? Did you see it
or what? “ Yeah! I saw it all!
I saw the old man molest her and Oriana blow him away! Pow!”
“--You’re a liar and I’m going to corroborate everything you’ve told me! The Sra. didn’t own a gun; and anyway, that gun
was probably Lucina or Raquel’s! Besides it was you who killed the old
man! “ “—No, I told you it wasn’t
me!” JL either thinks pretty well on his
feet, all things considered—or he had this story all lined up, which is
probably more likely—and explains, the fairytale familial relationships. “--Yes,
the little girl is mine but the Sra. Ines--or Oriana, since that’s what you’re
calling her— she and I never got married! And she never ever [jamas] married another
man, especially not this smuggler like you say!!”
Berto lets out a
major snort of disbelief. ”—I don’t
believe a word!” JL grabs Berto by the
collar and warns him to keep his filthy mouth shut about those two or consider
himself a dead man walking. “—This is
the second time I’ve warned you. There
won’t be a third.” He goes into the
drawer to fetch the payment he just gave the loser and walks out the door. Berto starts complaining. “—Hey, you give me my money! Nobody’s going to believe you, did you
hear?” JL walks back into the room once
more. “—Since you’re going to be dead,
you won’t know whether they believe me or not.”
He turns on his heel and heads out the door and down the hall. (This part of Viewerville lets out a high
five towards the screen and shouts “Bravo, baby! Bravississisimo!” How refreshing! Finally we’ve got a man who can lay waste,
shrivel and devastate with a single growl’nscowl!! MM--MM--MMMM!
Ricardo’s got his work laid out for him if what JL told Oriana the other
day is anywhere near the truth.)
Cesar is praying in the chapel when he finds
out from Mariano that the Archbishop has now offered him a place in the
seminary. Cesar feels unclean and is too
confused. Mariano tells him that Dios
will disregard his couple of sexual encounters since they’re unlikely to be
repeated, but Cesar, feeling unworthy, walks out on Mariano.
At the B&B, the doctor is in. Lucina and Ruben are discussing his
dysfunctional family situation. He fills
her in on the latest with moody Madhilde and Fabiola. Maddy’s grounded her and prevented her from
even going to school now! (Ever figure
that Madhilde no doubt suspects the worst from Fabiola because from what
Fidelia has led us to believe, Maddy’s already been there, done that and still
has the rotted, threadbare tee-shirt, aka Ruben, to prove it? And, we see what happened to her, right?)
Lucina empathizes with him. All kids do silly things like that at that
age. Sure, not that he cares for the
lying, but what can Madhilde expect the way she suffocates her loved ones, he
replies. She asks why he doesn’t move
out, if he has a trade or a talent and can do without the luxury he’s become
accustomed to, that is. Ruben admits
he’s got a degree as a civil engineer that he’s never put to use. He had
a fabrics/cloth business but went broke.
Well, she advises, he’s got to make a decision: his peace of mind or his
life of luxury. “—Go ahead and ask one
of your business buddies for a job.”
Ric, Paloma, and 2nes are discussing
Fabi’s latest boxing match with Madhilde and why. Neither of the women dare to oppose Maddy
over her daughter and agree all mothers run the risk of turning into the ogre
she is. Ric says, still there’s a
problem, knowing how Sebastian thinks and he’s never seen a girlfriend he
hasn’t taken advantage of. That upsets
the two women, obviously, so Ric promises to handle Seb’s hormonal overdrive
problem for Paloma. Before he leaves, he
offers to take 2nes home, but she demures and says she’s got to pick up Lina
after school and help her with her homework.
Paloma notices the deep canyon 2nes has recently put between her and
Ric.
Back at the company offices, Antonio is
yelling at Piero for being the one who let the cat out of the bag about him
complaining that Ric sent a different lawyer to Colombia instead of him, the
company’s attorney. It definitely wasn’t
him, he lies. He wouldn’t tell people
Ric thought he was a useless attorney!
Why would Piero spread gossip like that about him? Perro says it wasn’t him, and that he had
absolutely nothing against him that would make him gossip about him to the rest
of the employees, either. Antonio gets
huffy and says sure he does! He’s always
blamed him over that night they screwed around with Crazy Maria! Alright, agrees Piero, that he does blame him about that, and he does think they should have told Ric long ago that it was one of
the two of them, but still...... Antonio grabs him by the lapels and threatens to
kill him for sure if he dares open his mouth about that night. “—Oh, yeah?
And how will you kill me? With a
pistol? Will you strangle me or
what?” Antonio swears not to play around
with him. He’s been warned if he opens
his big mouth to Ric he’s gonna be refried frijoles.
Ric shows up unexpectedly at Sebastian’s
new digs to tell him he knows he’s been leading Fabiola down the proverbial
primrose path for freebies. Seb just
snickers and tells him no problem; that he will leave her alone--for a
price! Ric simply has to first give him the name and address of the
psychiatric clinic Maria’s been put into.
Ric wants to know why the big interest in Maria, but Sebastardo’s got
the upper hand in this one. Herr Foxy
plays dumb and honest. “—Cuz she’s my
birth mother and anyway, what’s the harm if I do?” Ric throws the card with the clinic info in
his face and warns him that the nurses are wise to his little game of secrets
and he will be on Seb like white on rice if they get wind of anything.
Once they’re back at the manse, Paloma
mentions 2nes’ distancing herself from Ric now.
They cannot have a relationship, says 2nes. Because of your husband, right? No, lies 2nes, those flowers being from him
turned out to be just her imagination playing tricks on her. It’s that she doesn’t want another
relationship right now. Paloma remarks
that it’s obvious the way she looks at Ric that she is still in love with him
and it’s foolish not to recognize that they’re made for one another. Yes, she loves him, but she recognizes that
she loves her daughter more and just wants to raise her daughter without
worrying about another man at this point in her life. It’s over between them. Period.
Cesar is checking out of Lucina and
Raquel’s B&B a bit later, paying her for the time he’s stayed, when Mariano
shows up and talks him into taking the opportunity to complete his life’s dream and entering the seminary. Lucina’s all for taking his one
chance. Just then the seductive devil in
the blue-green dress, aka the ravishing and always- ready-to-be-ravished Raquel,
tries unsuccessfully to talk him out of life as a priest.
Oriana is helping Lina with her math
homework when she gets an unexpected call from Jose Luis, and she among other
things is pissed that he got hold of her personal phone number. JL tells her they have to meet in person to
discuss something urgently important.
She tells him there’s no way she can get free to see him for any
reason. He tells her if she cares about
their daughter she needs to find a way.
Enough said. He tells her he’ll wait for her on the street near her home and hangs up.

Cara de heartsick disappointment de Jose
Luis. “--Ever???? That word is rather definitively
conclusive [tajante – a great word to use with a math major!] Bottom line, just know that whatever happens
[pase lo que pase], I will never ever stop worrying about you or looking out
[velar] for the two of you.” (¡Ay! This is one villain Viewerville has a hard
time resisting, let alone villain-izing!!
This part of Viewerville definitely feels his pain. His story just may be the honest to gawdawful
truth and I’d be ready to believe and let him park his shoes under my bed
again, whatever the bum had done. Yep. Color me weak!) Oriana changes the subject and asks who their
big bad enemy is supposed to be. “—Berto
Martin.” “--Gees! I knew it!
He tried blackmailing me. I don’t
know how he found out, but he knows I’m really Oriana Caligaris and not Ines
Valdivia.” Ok, says JL, he has a
solution to their problem, but first he has to know everything—and she cannot lie to him! He wants her to tell
him if it’s true that Gabe, the man she supposedly killed, tried to molest
Alina. Oriana is enraged by the question
and asks who told him that. “—That’s a
vile and filthy lie!!”
Cesar has returned home--with his shadow, Padre Mariano, in tow and, in a
one hanky scene, says farewell to his family.
Madhilde tries one last time to talk him out of wasting his life. He tells her he’s made his decision and not
to try to interfere again; his only request is for her to loosen the reins with
Fabiola so that she can enjoy life. Ruben
and Fabiola give Cesar hugs and kisses along with their tears. His maddening Mama, though, refuses his final
hug and turns her back on him. He
leaves, broken hearted, but certain and unbending. ( ¡Aye! Now for the second
hanky.) Afterwards, she asks Fab and
Ruben if they’re ready to go in to dinner together with her. Ruben
and Fabi shun her and refuse to answer. They
walk away in the opposite direction and don’t say a word. Madhilde
is left to go in to eat by herself.
Message received, loud and clear.

Oriana gives JL hell and then some for losing control of himself when
Berto told him that his daughter was being molested. (Hey, lady, I’d have been just as angry and
probably would have lost it myself.
Anybody would have! Especially
you! Jes’ sayin’…..) Well, he managed to make up something that
explained his reaction and will no doubt work for her as well, he tells
her. He tells her the story he made up
for Berto in case he decides to talk and emphasizes he’s certain the guy won’t
talk. She’s still angry, but possibly is
beginning to see how she can use the lie to her advantage.
Martin is beginning to get nervous now that it’s been a while since he
last saw 2nes and Tito head out. Mariano
and Cesar come out to the sidewalk and greet Martin. He tells Padre and Cesar why he’s worried and
standing out on the sidewalk waiting there.
They offer to drive around the neighborhood to look for her and
Tito.
Meanwhile…JL tells Oriana the lie he spun with Berto was to throw him off
the scent when and if it gets back to her.
Especially for Dona Paloma who thinks she was a hooker anyway. Certainly
Lucina and Raquel will stay mum, Oriana is totally incensed and screams back
that Lucina won’t say anything but who knows about Raquel? JL says he’ll handle her, but what about her
male-friend-who-shall-remain-nameless?
Did she maybe tell him and that’s how Berto Martin found out? What would Berto know anyway? Whatever he said isn’t true! Why oh why did Jose Luis have to show up there,
anyway? “—Because you’re my wife and my
daughter and I love you and want you back!”
It doesn’t matter to her one bit, she screams back at him. “--My life was complicated enough already,
and your coming here has only made it worse!
It’s all your fault!”
She continues screaming hysterically and whaps JL hard on his arm. Instead
of growling at Jose Luis and biting him on the arm in solidarity with Oriana, Tito
has had enough of the yelling and screaming action. “—I’m outtaheah, dudes! You two figure it out. I’m headin' for home!” He jumps out of her lap and through the open
window that she and JL weren’t savvy enough to have kept closed, i.e., to avoid
the sound of their voices traveling far and wide along the deserted street and through
a deserted neighborhood the way it does at night. (Guess the writers never slept with their
windows open on a hot sultry night in the days before air conditioning, huh.) Tito races blindly into the street just as
Cesar and Mariano come racing along it in their car on the lookout for 2nes. (Viewerville is on the edge of its seat fearing
the worst for the clueless and pitiful pup.) Fakecisco and she race after Tito—and, into
view of the car’s headlights--just as Padre Mariano puts the brakes on and
squeals to a stop.
Mariano and Cesar get out of the car wondering where she’s been all this
time. 2nes and Fakecisco both groan as
they look down at the car for the dog. The camera turns towards the car and we get a
look. (Finally! I thought
they’d leave us wondering till the next episodio, for crying out loud!) Under the front wheel of the car we see
Tito lumped in a pile and he’s not moving.
Suddenly Tito looks up and all is right with the world once more. (Way to milk a scene there, Fur Face! Bravo, Doggo!
Definitely worth two paw lifts and a tail wag—not to mention a peanut
butter doggy bone!) Oriana and Mariano take
the dog to the emergency vet--nearby, natch).
Luckily, Tito suffered just a bit from the fright. He’ll be fine, says the vet. Fakesisco introduces himself to Mariano and
Cesar. Mariano, in on the secret—oops, another
one Oriana forgot accidentally on purpose to mention to JL—looks at him suspiciously but doesn’t say a
word.
Sr. Castro says in a very commanding manner that he’ll pay the vet’s bill
for Ines. She very rudely avoids thanking
Sr. Castro and heads outside with Padre Mariano and Cesar. Padre M
asks why she was with Castro and she answers that she’ll tell him some other
time. He offers to take her home, but JL
joins them just then and says very decisively that he’ll be the one escorting
her home. Mariano and he stare at each
other for a long ten seconds, and then JL breaks it off and walks away. Mariano seems to be thinking this Castro guy,
from his and Oriana’s actions this evening, has got to be Oriana’s crook of a hubby,
Jose Luis Falcon, hiding under a false name and passport. (And, we know he’s guessed right.)
Oriana forces JL to
let her off at the curb a few blocks from home.
He asks if she thinks the priest and his friend will tell anybody what
happened this evening. She doesn’t think
so. It wouldn’t be such a bad idea if
they did, he suggests, because then his cover story would make sense. Especially when Alina and he finally see each
other again. “—I’ll be the father of
your child, your ex-lover, back to renew [reanudar= restart, resume] our
relationship.” She rolls her eyes and
stares nastily back at him. “—When she
recognizes me you won’t be able to deny [negar= disclaim, refuse, conceal] it.” She gets out of the car and slams the door in
his face.
Back in the rectory now, Cesar asks who the guy was and if he planned to
tell Ric about the incident. Mariano
says no and the only one who should be telling Ric about what they saw is
Ines. Cesar agrees and heads up to bed.
Outside Lina’s school the next morning, 2nes tells the teacher not to
allow anybody but her or her driver to pick up Lina after school now. She gets ready to get back into the SUV with
her driver, but JL has walked up and tells the driver to go home, the Sra. and
he are going to have coffee. 2nes agrees
to the coffee, but tells the driver to stick around and wait for her.
Rather than getting into his car right away, she starts yelling at him
for showing up at the school this way and exposing her even more. He asks her to listen to what he has to
say. What could be so important, she
wonders. He had to see her. He already saw her last night! Yeah, but he didn’t have a chance to
explain. “—They forced me to do what I did! They used my important position as a customs
officer [aduanero] and pressured me to help them move their contraband
goods. It’s not anything I would have
wanted to do! They forced me!” Oriana refuses to listen. (This is where she and I part ways. He’s right and she’s a naive priss when it
comes to this.) "--So why didn’t you go to
the authorities and report them?? (You’re
kidding, right? In Latin America? His boss and gawd knows how many others right
up the friggin’ line are probably involved willingly or otherwise. You don’t just “report” it to the authorities
down there, you stupid broad!) He is
desperate to make her understand that he had no choice; that they threatened to
harm her and Alina if he didn’t do what they wanted. (Works for me.) She tells him she doesn’t believe a word of
it and storms away. He stands there, at
his wits’ end, totally flummoxed, having spilled his guts to her, and she
wouldn’t believe him. (So much for the totally
self-assured, macho-man at the controls. A pity, too.)

Ricardo, meanwhile, gets a call from Lina during her massage at the club,
asking how it’s going with the new investor group. He tells her he’s taking his time
investigating whether their money is clean or not. They don’t really need the money, he reminds
her. She gets on his case about not
taking Castro’s word about things, that of course their money is clean, and
then complains about how Mexico has put so many restraints on business when all
they want to do is get an infusion of money.
At the same time, Oriana tries to visit Mariano at the rectory and learns
he’s gone. She refuses to leave a
message for him.
Ricardo and Pierro are at the factory and Ric wants to discuss what
happened that night at Maria’s party because he’s more certain than ever that
Seb isn’t really his bastardo. He knows
they were all pretty drunk that night, but they weren’t quite as drunk as he
was, he comments. He cannot remember
having had sex with her. At this point
Perro tells him that yes, he and Antonio did have relations with her and they
could also have been Seb’s baby-daddy. He adds that it’s been a burden for him
all these years, but there it is. He
grabs Perro by the collar and screams at him, his supposed BFF, for letting him
and his parents believe Seb was his responsibility all these years! Suddenly it hits Ric that this is the secret Maria
and Seb have been keeping. Perro tries apologizing and offers to resign, suggesting also his taking a DNA test
if it will help at all to rule himself in or out. Ric tells him not to leave and he refuses his
resignation. “—You and Mariano are my
only friends. There’s no need to quit
the company.”
The maid ends up telling Paloma about 2nes’s late night dog walk that
seemed to take forever. Paloma says not
to worry about it, but that she needs to know if that sort of thing happens
again. The maid adds as an after thought
that she thinks Sra. Ines has another boyfriend. Paloma raises an eyebrow at that, says thanks
for the info, and then asks her to please get her a taxi.
Seb visits Maria at the hospital and even brings her a new doll. He reminds her never to speak about that
night at the party again. She promises
and then begins tearfully begging him to get her out of the clinic. He tells her she needs to be there where
doctors can take care of her. He tells
her it’s Ricardo who wanted to keep her in there because he is an evil man who
cannot be trusted. He removes his
sunglasses and—OMG!-- he’s actually shedding a tear for her!
Paloma meets with 2nes at the office in a surprise visit. She tells 2nes that she’s there to discuss
her husband. Paloma explains she’d
avoided the topic up to now because of respect for her shy, modest ways,
knowing that her past wasn’t her fault, but thinks now is the time. 2nes asks her what made her think she has
visited her husband. Paloma says, oh, a
number of events [hechos] have led up to it.
Just because she’s an old woman doesn’t mean that she’s necessarily a
fool. 2nes agrees and tells her that she’s
very thankful for all Paloma has done for her.
Paloma says, no, she is the one to thank her, especially for her great
granddaughter. She switches back to the
original topic under discussion. “—That is
the reason you broke up with Ricardo, isn’t it?
Because your husband showed up?”
Cara de what-do-I-say-now-and-thanks-for-nothing-Jose-Luis de Oriana.
Antonio, eager to get his bonus from Fakecisco comes into hand in his
research about the potential investor group and assures Ric that Castro’s group
is legit and has numerous, successful gambling establishments they own along
with a construction company. He suggests
that it’s a great investment that Ric shouldn’t turn down. Ric
asks if Escalona (the accountant) has read through the report. Antonio says no, that he’s only an accountant
so, no need. Ric throws the report down
and yells at him that he’s not doing anything till Escalon reads through
it. Antonio gets a bit snitty and asks if
there's a reason Ric's going against him like this. Hell, yeah, Ric yells back. How about explaining why all these years you and
Piero hid the fact that they raped Maria that night at the party!!
Antonio acts surprised to hear it and claims it is a lie and that Piero
might have, but he certainly did not! Ric
screams back that Piero claimed they’d both had relations with Maria that night
and then asks if Antonio would care to take a DNA test to clear things up. He refuses, saying he had nothing to do with
her and that if he doesn’t trust him then he can dump him, since as he knows,
it’s his option any old time he chooses!
Ric watches Antonio storm out of his office but says nothing more. Once Antonio is clear, he calls Fakecisco and
tells him they have to meet right away. JL
is parked outside Alina’s school, waiting for her to come outside and tries to
brush Antonio off. Antonio repeats that it’s
urgent, so JL tells him to wait for him at his hotel.
The teacher from earlier tells Lina to behave and waits there with her
for her mother. Something across the
street catches Lina’s attention, though, and she breaks into a run towards it. (Hey, teach!
Don’t just stand there staring!
Run after her and get the kid out of the street and oncoming traffic! Sheesh!) A minute later Lina is jumping into her
daddy’s waiting arms. “—Papito!!”

Quite an episode, and what an ending! Can't wait for the recap. JL is really throwing Ori's new life into chaos.
AlejoP, I was yelling at the TV when my little Tito El Bambino was aiming for the car! I was watching with a friend of mine ( whose daughters would not stop interrupting us!). When I yelled "No, Tito, don't do it!"The 6 year old turned and looked at me and said: "Boy, you are really into this story". Yeah, kid,ain't that the truth. I LOVE my Tito El Bambino. :))
Jardinera, I cannot wait for your take on last night's adventures!
JL is slime which now REALLY has me thinking about what Orines REALLY thought about her marriage to him. She's already thrown it in his face that he's been a jerk all along which makes me wonder how long he has been involved in illicit business. I don't know if doing illicit business is just considered the "norm" in Colombia, but it would be really nice to flesh out the background on the marriage.
JL is a smooth operator and a smooth manipulator. He cuts a mighty fine look in his duds, but I'm not buying it.
What's worrying me is that we might be getting some up coming TN cliches between the galan and his gal. I so hope they keep things on the up and up like they have been. I like the mostly mature thinking on the part of Ricky and Orines.
...and can I say just how disappointed I was in our Padre Plaid this week when he started to put doubt in Ricky's head wrt Orines loving him. Not fair, Padre and a really low blow. You will not pass "Go" on that one and it WILL come back to bite you.
This whole Maria/Piero/Antonio bidnez has really caused Ricky HUGE mental block. It is such a mental stumbling block that I think it still has him somewhat paralyzed.
Anywho, won't say anymore other than vague generalities so that we can savor every bit of Jardinera's recap!!

This whole Maria/Piero/Antonio bidnez has really caused Ricky HUGE mental block. It is such a mental stumbling block that I think it still has him somewhat paralyzed.

What a great episode. Some much happened, so much to talk about.
I am really glad that Piero told Ricardo the truth about that night. Ric has a lot to think about.

Jardinera, I am sure that you will do justice to Tito's big moment. I love it that Alejo P. calls him Tito el Bambito -- so fitting and cute.
I love the suspense and trying to keep track of the secrets in this novela. I also like it that Ricardo is often not at his best -- very controlling and not very thoughtful with Sebastian, though he is generally a good guy. And while JL/Francisco is generally a bad one, he does seem to love his daughter and has some remorse for what he did to Oriana. There's not enough for redemption but enough to keep the story interesting.
Paloma is also a bit of a metiche. Can you imagine living in the house of servant-spies and Matilde to boot? But she is so grateful to have Ines and Lina in her life that all is forgiven in my book.
So, on balance, keeping everything and everybody off balance works for me. After a couple of clunker novelas, it's great to look forward to the next episode.

Traveling lady - ITA everything you said, especially about JL. For a split second, when Tito hopped in the car and JL asked Oriana his name, I thought "Ah, what a sweet moment!" Then I remembered what JL's done.

Part 1 and 2 are great so far, Jaridinera. So you really believe JL was an innocent in all of this? Forced against his will? Hmm... Well, if he weren't so adept at, and seemingly happy, being a money launderer for the folks in the Caribbean, I might believe him too. In any case, he was wrong, wrong, wrong to involve her by putting her signature and name on that account. I'm sure no one forced him to do that. I want to believe him, but I'm holding out for more evidence that he didn't go into this business willingly.
Jardinera, Thank you so much for your grand recap. You keep track of the myriad of details so well and with humor. I like the JL devil though he is character too. Very sexy guy but probably we will hate him more later. And oh, Raquel, she needs another warm bed to hop into so perhaps she will join forces with JL. Does anyone wonder if playing evil characters all the time warps ones own real personality. I worry for the beautiful but dangerous Altair. She makes being a slut look too easy by half.

ViviDC: Signing her name on the account was IMHO possibly the real mistake. Could be he didn't really think that one all the way through--which any one of us in his shoes might have errantly attempted. Dunno, cuz you're right that we haven't enough basis yet to judge completely. That's what I like about the way the writers have presented JL's predicament. For all the bundle of bucks he's got control of, JL hasn't exactly been celebrating like a damn fool. He's been on edge every bit as Oriana considering he had the government after him and the criminal syndicate types breathing down his neck. I don't believe the story about the way he got the "investment" representation job, myself. I'd say that is possibly mistake #2 on his part--or it could be that he told her that in order to keep her from going off half-cocked and getting a bullet in the back of the head for all three of them. Or, it could be that was the story he was told by the group to give her and everybody if it came down to it, but I doubt that.

Brilliant recap Jardinera. I can't get over how refreshing this TN is. They are mimicking real life situations quite well. JL reminds me of the Ted Bundees of this world. Smooth,soft spoken,gentle and very easy on the eyes. No one will believe they are capable of evil. What woman in her right mind will give up a hunk like that. His last crime was probably the the straw that broke the camel's back. Oriana is so stressed she is loosing it. How do you move on with your life when the past comes calling. Living a lie is never easy. Thankfully Ric knows the truth. which is why I don't get her current lie to him about JL. Threatening her daughter shouldn't be enough reason to lie to Ric. Don't you just love a priest who is discrete. I haven't watched the episode yet but your recap is all I need. Thanks a lot Jardinera.

Oriana is near breaking point, and she needs someone to talk this through. Perhaps Mariano can serve that purpose. He has helped her before. When Alina tells her she for sure saw her daddy, Ori is going to freak. She might as well tell Ricky the truth now, because she won't be able to hide how on edge she is from him. He'll likely figure it out by next episode anyway.
She did not "forget" to mention that Mariano knows her secret. I think it's very smart of her to not reveal to JL that she has the team of Ricky, Mariano and Piero on her side, until she knows what JL's true intentions are. Better to play her cards close to the vest with him.
Like I said earlier, I am going to withhold judgement on JL until I see some more evidence that points to him either being a victim in all this, or a willing participant. So far, I'm not convinced he's a victim. He moves through this shady world too well. I do believe that he loves his daughter, and so it's tough that he and Alina are parted. But then again, that's his fault.
I was also pleasantly surprised to see Sebas moved to tears by Maria's pleas. I like that none of our villains are 100% evil. He's a jerk and a brat, but there is a heart in there. Same with Matilde too. Now, will Sebas actually stay away from Fabi as he promised? I'm betting not.

No way is JL a victim of the higher ups, they end up with zip. JL has mucho dinero. Possible that he ripped off the higher ups, if so he would be in deep mierda.
Vivi: Yep, I realize Oriana's been playing it close to the vest by lying to JL--and if I were her I'd have sworn Ric to silence, but Ric has told Piero and she's told the priest; Berto was there "spying by the pool" about the time when the murder take place and knew she wasn't Ines. When she lied to him the first time about who knew her real identity, I thought to mysel that hell, half the people she's met since coming to Hermosillo know her secret and I'd have been embarrassed to admit it to Jose Luis if it were me, despite not trusting him with the knowledge. The second time she had a chance to admit the truth to JL about who of the others knew, she still lied though he'd warned her it was important that she be truthful with him. She wasn't and that may have bollixed everything for the two of them now.
She doesn't trust JL because he's not the man she thought she'd married, and I bet she really doesn't trust Ric not to do something stupid and regrettable out of jealous rage that would get her sent to prison and lose Alina to her forever. So she's lied about Sr. Castro not being her hubby. JL was right to remind her of the consequences because it is the gawdawful truth and he knows it.

Wonderful job in relating so many details, all of which either do definitely matter now or might matter in the future. I loved your description of Ruben and thoughts about why Matilde might worry about Fab repeating her own mistakes. Hadn't thought about that one. Ruben is indeed a loser, but an endearing one, especially in the hands of the delightful Lucina.
I have enjoyed the discussion here about JL's situation and Oriana's, too. I don't know what to think about JL, but the writers have done a good job of creating ambiguity about his motives and options. I think in many ways his character is more interesting than Ricardo's. Being entangled in organized crime and unable or unwilling to get out is a classic dilemma. In contrast, Ricardo's life seems simple, even with Maria in the background, and his insistent behavior with Oriana annoying.
I did feel sorry for Ricardo when he gave Piero a pass on 20 years worth of deception that had pretty much framed (ruined?) his life by saying,"I only have two friends and you are one of them!"

Wonder where that came from if he went ahead and hired him as a company attorney! Antonio's a total dirt-wad.

Variopinta: Interesting idea that JL's ripped off the syndicate gang that he's obviously still working for. Maybe, but IMHO he's on the expense account. How did he get the money he'd put into Oriana's account out of the bank and out of the country? The smart thing would have been to possibly put the cash into a bank lockbox and never have had to use Oriana's name. Why not have used a false name to open that contraband account? Identity theft is so rampant these days, I can't imagine the syndicate not considering taking that tack.

Jardinera, absolutely agree that Padre Plaid does need to lay out all possible scenarios for his parishioners, but Padre wasn't exactly coming with total honesty with his advice as he has already admitted to and prayed about his very,very strong attraction to Orines. So, I'll meet you half way on that one.
I do agree that Orines still has feelings for her husband. Is it love? I'm not so sure, but I do agree that she has huge emotional ties to this man even now.
I've seen men like JL in action and they have the ability to make a woman question her feelings. My cousin was married to a man much like JL. I always thought the guy was a smooth operator and an even smoother manipulator. I saw my cousin go back and forth from being angry to feeling guilt. When they finally divorced, she STILL felt conflicted because he cried (literally and in front of the attorneys) and begged her to come back. This was done right up until the papers were signed. Cousin had a moment of horrible doubt. I was the bystander in this whole thing, but as I had no true emotional ties to the guy, his manipulation was so good that I found myself thinking that even I could believe him.
Thankfully, my cuzzy took a moment to really take stock of things and the divorce did happen.
I think this is why Orines seems so "real" to me. This storyline about her just seems so real and reminds me in many ways of what my cousin endured.
Honestly, I am surprised Oriana hasn't cracked by now. Ricky pressures her. Paloma pressures her. Berto, Raquel, and even Lucina to a degree have all pressured her. JL alone is more than enough for one person. Heck, I'd be really to tell these people where they could land and I would take my kid and just leave.
Anywho, several paragraphs later, my whole point is that I don't trust JL. Yes. He loves his family, but he had no qualms about putting Oriana at risk. The guy is obviously no fool. He's a big boy who has made some pretty bad choices. I also think it was wrong, wrong, wrong of him to use Alina (by revealing himself) to force Oriana's hand.
Unless he shows some other side of himself, I cannot like this man (at least for now) who has used and manipulated his family on so many levels.

Just finished reading your great recap. There were a few more details that I had forgotten about. I loved your description of Tito's big acting scene. He played the hurt and scared dog like a pro.

Plus, he seems too good at making threats for him to be so innocent in all of this. Also, I hate the way he has been threatening Oriana too.

CathyX/Fatima: How could JL have been certain that even if he quit his job he wouldn't have been hit by the syndicate for trying to defy them? I think after his talk with Oriana that morning at the school behind the car, his explanation was a heartfelt part of the truth, no matter his degree of personal greed before or after the fact. Jes IMHO. He may well be a villain now, or a tragic would be hero but we won't really know till the end. To be continued..... LOL!
Jardinera, I see your point, that he may not have felt he had no choice in joining in the illegal activity, but do you think they made him put the money in her name? I'll bet they didn't care about that. He could have transferred the money to an offshore account leaving her out of it. Bu for me, his manner is too aggressive in how he coerces everyone to go along with him for me to believe that he's an innocent. It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but it wouldn't surprise me if they leave it intentionally ambiguous where we never know for sure. But if he ever sleeps with Raquel, then I think that puts him in the bad guy territory.

Ric has emphasized that they don't need capital and they've been doing very well on their own. The syndicate is well known to look for profitable companies to launder their money through and if they cannot force/buy their way in, they will kill the opposition and simply take it over. Now, ITA that JL could have been smoothly leading Oriana on from day one when he met her and have followed her to Mexico purposely planning every move and very loyal to the syndicate, having plotted purposely to do the same at Aresti, having moved his way up in the organization. Of course, the connection to Ric and Gabe and Paloma is a pleasant coincidence that Viewerville could easily see as a tn contrived coincidence by the writers to keep the main characters in close contact, interacting accordingly to move the story along. If so, this time it was a pretty subtle move on the writers' part, because we're all still guessing--something that again IMHO makes this particular tn a decent and compelling one.
Cathyx: Ah, yes! Sleeping with Raquel to insure she keeps her mouth shut, and to take care of unrequited needs vis a vis, his unwilling wife. Well, the hero slept with the villana in Amor Real, repented and came back to his wife and one true love in the end..... Jes' sayin'.

Sorry for my late presence (this is the other place where I was missed by members), but I was too busy (uni tasks)...It does the IN marketing, we have to make a marketing strategy plan at least 15 pages and I have an another marketing lesson (servicemark.), where we were on fieldwork, so I only read you. But after this semester no more! I can not wait for December.
And now so many valueable comments, and I am very pleased to see new members. :)
Some notes from me:
a, I read you would like to see together Lucina and Ruben. I don't know, for me Lucina is too dynamic for Ruben. He is a slowed down man, in my opinion Lucina's role is that Ruben realizes the life is not equal with playing golf, watching TV or reading newspapers. He must feel again, dare to feel. As I think he should show Matilde who he is...for example moving to the Casa Bonita, but if the things will not change, the only way is the divorce. I am so curious when their last common night was ad husband and wife. 10-15 years ago?
b, Sebastardo and the DNA test: it won't be simple, but Ricky and his team are so smart, and I think they will solve. Do Ricky the same that Seba did, sneak into his flat and steal a glass or somthing. It is unethical, but no another solution, Seba will never agree in this.
c, Ricky or JL? Ricky. :D Obvious for me, I love his sentence: all my life was a big lie. That's true, sometimes I am angry because of his behaviour, he should understand the best Oriana's position, but there is the other end of the spectrum with more and more lies. Lies don't want to run out of his life.
When I saw JL first, I believed that he is not a wicked man, he seemed startled, a good boy who made a big mistake. After his arriving in Hermosillo, his gestures revealed him, he is a great player. He is the most ambitious character (bigger than Maddy or Lila or Berto).
Does it know somebody how many time has passed from the beginning of MPV? It doesn't showed, but I think so much. Months? Near a year?

I think your analysis of how Lucina fits into Ruben's life is perfect. I've thought several times that Lucina could easily overwhelm Ruben on so many levels. Lucina needs someone (or maybe she doesn't "need" someone) to match her own energy level. That is not Ruben. Like you, I think Lucina is there to show Ruben that he has let time slip by. He has his own talents even if he did fail once at business. So what? Failure is a part of life. It's stopped Ruben dead in his tracks and Matilde has not helped one bit. Maybe Lucina will be good for Matilde, too, but I'm not holding my breath.
Also agree with cathyx that Fidela is not for Ruben. She is at the opposite end of the spectrum. He needs someone right in the middle.
As for how long it's been since Ruben and Matilde did the horizontal, I would say >15 years. LOL!

Tito looked adorable as he was staring out the car window behind Ori, finding more interesting things than Ori and JL's argument to keep him entertained. Right up till he decided it would be much more fun to play outside the car, and jumped out the window.
Vivi in DC, I know! That Tito is so precious. I wonder if his star is rising and we will see him again in another "role". He is a very good actor (and he knows it!).

I've said before that I think Lucinda and Ruben would be good together for the very reason others think that they wouldn't be. People with big personalities need/often go with those who are quieter. Two big personality types often compete for the limelight, that's why celebrities rarely stay together when paired up with other celebrities. The complementary person usually has the opposite personality style.
But I think Ruben's personality would expand under someone who is encouraging like Lucinda. Matilda is a constant put-down. That makes someone just shut up and never talk.

cathyx, excellent points. Who knows, maybe Ruben would blossom with Lucinda or someone like her, but...Ruben isn't ready quite yet for someone at a different opposite end of the spectrum. Only time will tell, but you make an excellent point.
AlejoP, I know what you mean about JL. There's something "not quite right". Am really looking forward to see how they flesh out his character. Also, Alejo, very interesting about dogs being important in Zarratini TNs. Just love learning all of these new things. :))

OT, but relevant to "Que Bonito Amor". As I was watching MPV on Friday night with my friend (of the children who would not stop talking during the show!!), my friend mentioned that Karla Alvarez, who played, Irasema on QBA, had died on Friday.
We did a quick search after MPV was over and I found this link.

So very sad about Karla Alvarez. I found out via Univision as I was searching for MPV eps on their novelas y series page. Apparently she had been suffering from an eating disorder, if I translated correctly. Prayers for her family...so very tragic.

Needless to say, I'm totally addicted to Internet (yes, I removed the "the", that's how bad I have it).
I have a lot of thoughts about JL and Ricardo at this time, but I'm still Team Rick, if for nothing else, then the fact that he is the hero.
I think JL is a bad guy who loves his family.

Karla Alvarez's death really shocked me. I've seen a few of her tns when she was younger - she was a great villain in one of my favorites tns - La Mentira.

During QBA, I always thought some of her features looked out of proportion, like her head was almost bigger than her small body. To me, she looked anorexic, but I figured that was just the way she looked. It was my first time seeing the actress, so I had no frame of reference. She didn't look healthy. During QBA, I always thought some of her features looked out of proportion, like her head was almost bigger than her small body. To me, she looked anorexic, but I figured that was just the way she looked. It was my first time seeing the actress, so I had no frame of reference. She didn't look healthy. I think this is so very sad.

I tended to consider that if neither Berto nor Lila had the opportunity and are both actually telling the truth, then TN coinkydinks aside, something like that could have been a possible backstory to his death and JL's intention in trying to invest out of nowhere in Aresti.
I didn't think that JL's interest in Aresti was out of nowhere. I thought that he wanted to invest in Aresti because he found out Ines's/Oriana's background and figured he'd get close to her by being part of the company.

AlejoP, well that confirms my suspicions. It was one of the first things I thought when I saw her in QBA. I think it is so sad. Anorexia can be so difficult to treat.

That's what I love about this show. I think the Maria Z. had a beginning, middle and end in mind when she wrote this. Everything so far as seem well planned and there has been a reason for everything....Heck, even Tito turned out to play a vital role (excuse to leave; near death creating a chance encounter with Mariano/Orinez/JL Fakcisco.)

Ricardo brought up a good point that it could be possible that Sebastian is not the son of any of the three of them who were with Maria on "that night." It sounded like he was leaning towards waiting until Sebastian had come into his (grand)mother's inheritance rather than do the DNA test before and deprive him of that.

What if Maria's stepdad was the father? That would be so gross that I doubt it. Sebastian has Antonio's jerky personality.
Ricardo has a big soul, because he isn't intrested in Seba's diprival from the inheritance. He doesn't want to take anything from him. Neither the money, nor the sounding good surname 'Sanchez Bretón'. Although Seba doesn't deserve, he likes his "son"/"brother".
I think Seba didn't get a good rearing. As he said his mother Irene has only one child, Ricardo, she kept the boy as a boner. After her death I think Gabriel did not give sufficient attention, because he entrusted the boys to the care of Fidelia, who does not have strong hands. Gabriel was rather remarried (perhaps Fide has right, he was a mujeriego), and moved in Tijuana. And Ricardo was too young for a son. That why I understand somewher Seba's behaviour. In my opinion he has inferiority complex, he always saw Mr. Perfect Big Brother.
Also I add, I don't like too when I was similared with my big bro or the neighbours's son.
Cathyx: I think this supposition would be too wild in this story. Maligno is primitive caveman, but isn't a Leoncio from tha Amor Bravio.
