Mentir Para Vivir #33 Wed 11/20/13 Not in front of the children!

Lo Refrito
Oriana blindly defends her lying, cheating, criminal, husband to Mariano and
Ricky.  They discuss their options -- Ricky can marry Oriana, but that could make JL angry and accuse Oriana of bigamy, exposing them both and therefore sending them both to jail.  And what about Alina?  What to do, what to do.  Ricky promises to stand by her no matter what.

Ugh, we had to see a repeat of Fabi's walk of shame.  Poor little lamb.  I hate Seba.

Piero reports that the signature on Oriana's wedding certificate and the bank docs are one and the same.  Ricky asks Piero to verify if JL had signing authority on that account. He even says he's willing to sell all his shares to JL so that he'll leave Ori alone.  Peori warns him against making such a drastic move.  He'd end up giving up his inheritance and leaving Paloma in the hands of that desgraciado.

Lo Nuevo
Ricky considers buying out another company from the Trejo Bonfil family.  He can convince Paloma to do the same and rid themselves of the odious JL who will most likely end up getting them all jailed if their suspicions of his money laundering scheme is correct.

Piero wants to talk to Manolo again.  He figures the police are more interested in capturing a gang of money laundering thugs than a woman suspected of murder.  He reminds Ricky he has those guns as evidence.  Ricky reminds him Oriana is guilty of identity theft Piero insists the police are more interested in the big fish (peces grandes) and may give up on an unsolved murder case.  Ricky's not convinced -- Manolo's a great guy, but he is a cop first and foremost and isn't likely to forget about Oriana.

Hospital
Ruben and Ori are in the waiting room while Madi visits with the old gal.  Ruben hasn't heard from Cesar but he's sure once he's been in the seminary a while, he’ll know for sure if it is truly his calling.  Ruben only wants what his son wants even though it pained him greatly to be separated from him.  He asks if she's planning to reconcile w/Ricky.  She's not sure, they're giving it some time.  Luckily for all, the catty Madhilde wears bells to forewarn others of her proximity.  She tells them Paloma is fine and is being attended to at the moment so Ines should wait a few minutes before going in.  Oh, and by the way, could Ines have the decency not bring men into her bedroom?  Ruben quickly ushers Madi away before she spews any more evilness or coughs up a fur ball or something.

Casa Bonita
Lucina gets a call from Oriana and hears about Paloma.  She’s also invited to Alina's fiesta.  She volunteers herself and Raquel to help -- something Raquel isn’t too keen on.

Hospital
Fermin, from Casa Ricardo, delivers Fidelia’s flowers to Ines, conveying her apologies for not coming herself cuz she didn't wanna run into Madi.

Ori visits with Paloma.  They chitchat about the fiesta.  Paloma wants to know if she and Ricky have reconciled.  Oria thanks her for the car.  Paloma asks about Ori's husband.  Oriana doesn't want to her to get agitated and doesn't want to talk about it. The old lady insists. If Ines is planning to return to her husband, then she wants to know now.  Ines explains it's difficult because Lina adores him but so much happened between them.  It's so difficult to explain these things to children.  Paloma suggests she take her time before she decides but stresses that she do what is best for her, Ines. The only thing she wouldn't want is to be separated from Ines and Lina.  The nurse comes in to tell her the flowers aren't permitted in her room so she's put them out on the counter where she can see them.

Paloma gives us a little insight into Fidelia and Ruben.  She would have liked it if Fidelia had married Ruben.  Paloma was very chummy with Fidelia's sister Irene even though Irene was much younger.  She met Fidelia through Irene.  Fidelia is such a sweet lady, kind and affectionate.  She asks Ori to thank Fidelia for the flowers.

Casa Bonita
Eliseo asks if JL is planning to quit.  Hell, if he wants, he'll even take care of Ricky.  JL wars him that's not a good idea.  The Sanchez Breton family is very important in these parts and they don’t need to muck things up with a Murder investigation.  Eliseo asks, what does Don Joaquin say?  JL doesn't have a chance to answer cuz Berto has arrived.    Berto and Eliseio take an immediate dislike to each other.  Probably because Berto makes a disparaging gesture making fun of Eliseo's height.

Casa de Paloma
Fabi comes across Oriana as she walks into the courtyard.  It's obvio she's upset and Oriana notices.

Hotel Bonita
JL explains to Berto he's decided not to insist on investing with Aresti Breton and will instead look for another venture due to Ricky's resistance and the vieja’s infarto.......Berto sees this as the perfect opportunity. The granddaughter will inherit everything upon Paloma's death.  Surely JL can convince the granddaughter.  JL doesn’t think Ines is so easily convinced.  She'd surely kill him before letting herself be persuaded.  Eliseo's surprised to hear how much she hates him.  JL now says he's not about to discuss his personal affairs with them.  What he wants is for them to find a new investment opportunity; preferably a company on the brink of bankruptcy. Berto's not too familiar with  the local companies.  He offers to talk with Antonio to see if he knows of any.  JL shoots down that idea.  He'll talk to Antonio.

Casa de Paloma
Oriana tells Raquel and Lucina that JL has resurfaced.  She begs them not to let on.    She just can't allow him to ruin Paloma's business.  Raquel cattily says, "Or Ricky."  Oriana quickly reminds her that she's equally responsible in Oriana assuming Ines' identity.  Raquel just as quickly passes the buck to Lucina, saying it was all her idea!  Who falsified the documents?  Who hid Oriana when Gabriel was murdered?  Lucina then quotes one of my favorite dichos:  Tanto peca el que mata la vaca como el que el que le  agarra la pata. (the one who holds the cow’s hoof is equally as guilty as the one who kills the cow). Raquel's just as guilty for going along.  Luci's curious if Ori felt anything for her husband when she saw him.  Oriana repeats his story that he was forced but that he'll be free when he finishes with the Aresti Breton operation.  She doesn't know whether to believe him and besides Alina adores him.  She tells them Lina saw him.  Lucina's quick to point out he's just using Alina to pressure Oriana.  Oriana believes he truly loves Alina but she just can't bring herself to betray Paloma.  Raquel "counsels" her to return to her husband.  She needs to be just a little affectionate with him and she'll have him eating out of her hand!  She can ask him for anything: to leave Paloma and Ricky alone and that's that!  When Oriana protests that she doesn't want to return to her husband, Raquel rolls her eyes, "Well, too bad.  We all have to sacrifice something!  Just be nice to him"  Lucina:  Well, we're not all like you.  Raquel:  Look who's talking!  I'll remind you later of your past behavior!  Lucina:  Yeah, but I always chose my men.  They stop bickering long enough for Lucina to tell Oriana to let her think of a way out of this.  If only Paloma were healthier, says Oriana.  Then she’d tell her everything but she's afraid it would kill her.  She adores Paloma.  Raquel weighs in again:  Yes, but you love yourself more.  You want your marriage, your inheritance, and Ricardo.  Well, honey, you can't have it all!  Oriana is flabbergasted.

Casa Bonita
JL is kicking them out but Berto wants to talk.  Eliseo leaves.  Berto wonders why JL wants him -- he already has Eli"feo" (hey, I like that).  JL explains Elifeo is just a guarura (bodyguard).  He needs intelligent men, who will think not just follow orders (so why is Berto there?).  JL promises to pay him well.  Berto has a small problem. Ricky has his gun and he wants it back.  He's surprised when JL isn’t willing to help him in this and even suggests it would be in Oriana's best interest for him to get back his gun.  Bad move, Berto.  JL tells him not to even think about threatening him.  He wishes him luck in getting his gun back and tells him to leave.  As soon as Berto leaves, JL gets on the phone to Antonio, saying he needs to speak with him LMPP (lo mas pronto posible).  oops, Antonio is in a meeting with Ricky and says into the phone that he's in a meeting with his jefe.  They agree to meet at the hotel bar.

Aresti Breton
Once he's off the phone, Antonio tells Ricky it was some chava (chick) he met and he made the mistake of giving her his number.

They've been discussing the purchase of the ailing Trejo Bonfil company.  Antonio agrees they may be ripe for the picking.  Ricky tells him to do some checking but to do it quickly, it's urgent.  Antonio wonders if Ricky isn’t planning on taking the investment offer from Francisco Castro?  Ricky doesn't answer, only repeating for him to do as he's asked.  Antonio gets all huffy and leaves the office.  Ricky seems a bit perturbed with his fake friend.

Hotel Casa Bonita
Raquel and Lucina walk through the lobby, bickering in front of guests!  Raquel complains about Oriana always taking what's hers.  First it was Ricky and now Jose Luis, or Francisco, or whatever his name is.  They continue their discussion behind closed doors.  Lucina is lecturing Raquel about men, her skimpy clothing (hey I like this blue number Raquel is wearing), her drinking and bar hopping.  Of course, men will think she's only good for a fling.  Raquel wonders what’s wrong with her dress? (jaja, she totally ignores all the other critiques) All the chavas wear them.  “Yeah,” says Lucina, “but you're not so chava.”  (oof!  good one!)  Raquel wonders who Lucina thinks she is to speak to her about decency when she, Lucina, was a prosti! Lucina doesn't deny it and she can talk to Raquel about this precisely because she was a prosti!  She always wanted to settle down with a good man and have a family and a home but she never found what she was looking for.  She had a wonderful affair with Gabriel and they cared for each other very much.  But then they stopped seeing each other for a long time and then........Raquel finishes her sentence:  “He ended up marrying Lila, who, come to think of it, kinda looks like prosti!” Lucina:  “Yeah, well.  When we saw each other again we realized that what we once felt for each other was over and we ended up as good friends.”  She tells Raquel that she loves her like a sister.  If she wants to find a good man and have a family, she needs to change her attitude and her "look".

Outside, JL meets with Antonio.  JL explains he's no longer planning to invest in Aresti Breton.  It's become complicated, what with Paloma's illness and Ricky has absolutely refused to do business with him.  JL's "associates" insist on investing in Mexico so he's gotta find another mark, er, company.  FOCO! Antonio tells him about the ailing Trejo Bonfil family business. It’s strange that Ricardo also asked him about investing in another company.  JL's furious about this and wonders what Ricardo is up to.  He tells Antonio they need to be one step ahead and tells him to take the lead on this.

Hospital
Oriana and Ricky discuss Paloma's health.  It's important they avoid upsetting her.  She tells him the bad news that Seba and Fabiola are still seeing each other even after he asked Seba to leave her alone.  Oriana wonders if they may possibly be in love.  Ricky assumes Fabi might be but doubts Sabe is.  Oriana notices Ricky always thinks the worst of Sabe,  He shouldn't forget Sabe is his son.  Ricky tells her he's got a lot to 'splain and suggests they go to his place.

Casa Ricardo
Berto is checking out Ricky's home but is caught by Fermin.  Berto then pretends he's offering travel packages.  Fermin says thanks but no thanks.  Next comes a very drunk Benigno, looking for Ricky, or Fidelia.  Poor Fermin has his hands full but manages to push Benigno and returns to the house.  Benigno starts blabbing to Berto that the man who lives here took advantage of his daughter, impregnated her, then abandoned her.  He kept his silence for many years, but no more.  He either gets paid a good sum or he's gonna blab it all.  Berto eggs him on and Benigno lets on that he knows how to get in even if they lock the door on him.  He's sure Fidelia is an easy mark and will give him money if he threatens her.  Berto follows him and Benigno tries another gate.  He knows this place like the palm of his hand.  Unfortunately, the gate is locked but Berto has been listening very closely and invites his new friend for a drink.

Inside, Oriana thanks Fidelia for Paloma’s flowers.  She invites her to Lina's fiesta.  Fidelia will gladly come but worries that Maddie will cause a fuss. Fermin looks on as Oriana and Ricardo head on over to El Bungalo Azul, alone.

Local Bar
Plaque on wall:  Dios mio quitame lo pobre.  Que lo feo....Con dinero se me quita (God, take away my poverty. As for my looks [feo=ugly], money will take care of that)
Oh yeah, Berto is plying Benigno with drinks and he's singing like a canario!  His daughter’s in a psych ward.  Sure, he has a pension but it's not much.  Hmmm, maybe it would be better to get some money from el muchacho, Sebastian!  I know a secret.  Seba knows Maria's his mother, but he doesn't know who the father is!!!

Bungalo Azul
Ricardo forbade Seba to see Fabiola.  He’s probably doing this just to get back at him. He knows Seba doesn't love her.  He's shameless.  Seducing an innocent young girl only serves to boost his ego.  Oriana notices again that he has a bad opinion of Seba. Ricky refuses to turn a blind eye just because Seba is his son.

Casa de Paloma
Fabi sneaks out to call the egotistical turd.  He's busy playing video games but talks to her anyway telling  her he's missed her, hasn't stopped thinking of her, how much he loves her and what a good time they had -- the usual scumbag stuff.  She, of course, says she's been thinking of him too and wants to see him.  She invites him to come for Lina's party so they can see each other.  He balks at going to a children's party but relents so she can see how far he'd go to please her.  (aaaaaagghhhhh)  She thinks it would be a good opportunity to tell her parents about their relationship.  Uh, he wants more time so her mom will get used to him.  He repeats how often he thinks of her (this whole time he's been concentrating on his video game).  Fabi tells him she loves him.  Nadia walks out to shake out a rug and sees her on the tele. Fabi hurries off the phone before mommy dearest figures out she's snuck out to use the cell.  Not sure if Nadia heard anything-- she just shakes her head when Fabi rushes back in.

Bungalo Azul
Oriana and Ricky have moved on to the subject of her legal dilemma.  How can Ricky be sure that cop won't arrest her?  Ricky tells her Piero's theory: the authorities would care more about a band of merry smugglers and a mujer assesina.  PLUS, he has Berto's gun and the gun Lucina gave him.  A ballistic report will show which gun killed his father.  What if she's arrested until the ballistic report is completed?  What will happen to Alina?  She loves her father.  Ricky asks her, calmly this time, if she loves her husband.  She assures him she doesn’t.  Now he shares his other idea -- sell his shares to JL and convince Paloma to do the same.   Then they'll buy another company.   Oriana won't hear of it!  She's an outsider (advenediza) who's destroyed their lives.  She doesn't deserve so many sacrifices.   She knows what she must do.  She tries to leave but he stops her and they kiss.  She loves him and tells him the greatest manifestation of love is sacrifice.  He doesn't want a sacrifice, he only wants to make her happy.  They start to kiss which leads to him picking her up and taking her to his Blue Room.  The shirt comes off, the blouse comes off and the lovefest begins.

Casa de Paloma
Later, Oriana is in the courtyard basking in the afterglow of Ricky's love when Buzzkill, aka JL, calls.  He tells her he's decided not to invest in Aresti Berton.  He's doing this for her.  He doesn't wish to cause her more problems and wants her and Alina to come back to him.  She sees this as nothing more than a threat, quid pro quo.  He feeds her a fantasy story that he told his "partner" everything.  The partner released him of his obligation.  He's a free man.  They can go far away and be the family they always were.  She doesn't know whether to believe him.  He says he'll speak with Ingeniero Sanchez Breton tomorrow and she'll see he's telling her the truth.  The most important thing in his life is Oriana and Alina.  He loves them. “Even the greatest sinner deserves an opportunity.”  Oh, brother!

The following morning Alina jumps into her mother’s bed.  Today's the day of her fiesta!!!  And her Papi's coming!!  Not so fast, little one.  Oriana tries to explain just as they had to change their names, Papi had to change his too and he's now known as Francisco Castro.  It all started in Colombia.  He did some things and now they're looking for him.  She doesn't specify who's looking for him but can only say he can't be seen where there are a lot of people.  Alina's crying now.  "But he said he was coming!  I want to be with my father!"  She asks if Paloma will be there and Oriana reminds her Paloma's still in the hospital.  They're going to get all dressed up.  She asks Alina to promise she'll be happy today.  "Only if you promise to take me to my father afterward."  Oriana promises.

FIESTA!

GAMES!  PRESENTS!  BOUNCING HOUSE!!  Fidelia arrives in the midst of all this with Mariano and Marilu.  She and MadHilde lock eyes.  Ruben tries to go say hi but Maddie forbids him to move from her side.

Ricky arrives with a gift for the little princess.  Oriana tells him about JL's call.  Well, not everything.  She tells him JL no longer wants to be his partner.  Ricky suggests they discuss it later.  He gives Alina her gift.  She comes running to him and just as she hugs him, we go slo-mo......and she turns and sees PAPA!  She runs to him and he picks her up.  She covers him in kisses as everyone looks on.

Mad wonders why Lina is calling el Señor Castro Papa? Ruben has no idea.

Lucina shockingly says he's Alina's father and Raquel can only shake her head.

Alina can't stop hugging her Papi.  He's brought her a beautiful pink bike.  Oriana has walked over to them and demands to know why he's here.  She tries to tell Alina she shouldn't ignore her guests.  Yeah, right.  Besides, she doesn't know how to ride a bike.  No worries, sys JL, I'll teach her.  Ricky gets ugly (not in front of the kid!) and tells JL to leave, and take his toy with him! Oriana calmly asks JL to please leave but Alina doesn’t want him to leave.  Oh, goodness.

Now Padre Plaid (looking splendifurous in a light blue plaid number) wonders what that man is doing there but Fidelia has no idea.  He excuses himself and heads over to where the action is.  Raquel is dying to get over there too, no doubt to hear better.  Lucina thinks they shouldn't but doesn't stop walking over there herself.

Ricky, Piero, Oriana, and Mariano are now standing in front of Papi and Lani. Padre Plaid calmly asks JL to be sensible and leave.  Paloma and Oriana put together this party and he wouldn't want to ruin it for his daughter, right?  At this, Eliseo steps forward, his hand hidden behind him but JL waves him back.  "Los tres Mosketeros are all here presumably to throw me out, forcibly! (a patadas)" says JL.  "Of course!" says Ricky.  Padre Plaid knows the gentleman is an intelligent man and wouldn't want to cause a ruckus.  He offers to escort JL out.  Violence is avoided.  JL promises Alina he'll see her tomorrow.  The bike stays and JL leaves, followed by Mariano.  Once outside, Mariano suggests JL start watching himself with respect to Oriana (spanish siubtitles didn't quite catch the word used) Jl takes that as a threat.  Mariano tells him he knows everything.

Back at the fiesta, Ricky asks Piero why JL would do this.  Piero suggests it's a power play.  JL is showing that he can still manipulate Oriana through Alina.  "Over my dead body," swears Ricky.

Outside, Padre Plaid tells Papi JL that he knows his true identity and yes, he also knows who Oriana is.  JL reminds him that if he goes down, so will Oriana.  Padre Plaid had mistakenly thought that insomuch as JL professes to love his daughter, he'd be willing to sacrifice himself for her and Oriana’s sake.  "Don't be naive......Padre" says JL.  "And you shouldn't be so confident......hijo" responds Padre Plaid.

Inside, Alina cries to her mother that she threw him, Papi, out.  Oriana explains that adults sometimes argue.  Alina cries that he didn't come to argue, he only came to bring her a gift.  (aw, poor baby) Oriana reminds her of the talk they had earlier when she explained how Papi had done something wrong.  He had wanted to make more money for them but he was caught.  That's why they had to leave Colombia, because the most important thing to her is Alina.  She explains that if JL had been caught, they would have arrested her too, even though she had done nothing wrong.  Alina would have ended up in an orphanage being raised by strangers.  Alina then wouldn't have had her mother, or Paloma or even Tito close by.  Alina cries that she wants to be with her mommy, her abuela, Tito, Nadia, and Fabiola.

Outside, Ricky is doing is best to spin Ines' story to Fidelia and Marilu.  Ines was married a long time ago.  She married that man, they had Lina, then he abandoned her.  Fidelia wonders what he was doing here if he had abandoned them.  Ricky explains that JL swears he's sorry and now wants them back.  If he weren't Lina's father, Ricky would make sure he'd be kicked out of  the country.  Fidelia's aware JL had been in talks with Ricky to invest in their company.  Ricky explains he's rejected the offer because he is obviously not trustworthy.  He knew about Ricky and Ines and he’s very mistaken if he thinks he can separate them.

Fabi is talking with Piero, wondering if Ines has to return to her husband now that he's returned.  She can't go on with Ricky, can she?  She’s a married woman!  Will she divorce her husband?  Piero doesn't have the answers.  All he knows is that the husband appeared at a very bad time in her life.  Fabi wonders why there are so many obstacles to love.  Piero wonders if she's facing some obstacles herself.  Who me?  No, no, no.  I've just heard tell about it. Piero asks if she has a novio and surprisingly, she says yes.  She's Sebastian's novia!  He was supposed to come but hasn't shown up yet.  Something probably came up.  Piero assumes that “something” is that he knew Ricky would be there.  Well, maybe, she says

Inside, the child asks again if the police are after Papi.  Oriana explains this is true, and they're after her (Oriana) too. This only makes Alina cry.  Oriana promises that when Paloma is better, she's going tell her the truth, come what may.  If worst comes to worst, Alina can stay with Paloma.

Gracias, Paquita, for an entertaining recap!

Matilde, the bells and "coughs up a fur ball" had me laughing.

"He needs intelligent men, who will think not just follow orders (so why is Berto there?)."--WORD!

Fidelia and Ruben have very similar temperaments, in that they both need to locate their spines! Fidelia hasn't been to church in decades just in case people might be talking about her and now she balks at going anywhere Mathilde might be because she doesn't want Mathilde to make a scene. How about showing up, being classy, and letting Mathilde look bad if she wants to start trouble? Mathilde's the who stole Fidelia's man, so why is she acting like Fidelia did something terrible to her instead of welcoming every opportunity to rub it in Fidelia's face? Maybe there's more to their story.

JL can kiss my grits after the whole "um, yeah, I backed off on the deal, cause of you, babe" phone call. Sure, so he was "forced" into a life of crime, but either he picked up some bad habits or the lying and manipulating were there from the beginning. I wonder if we'll end up finding out that the smuggling and the account in Oriana's name weren't the only shady things he did. Did he have an amante? Another child? He's just too smooth.

I love the snippet of a song played during the love scene between Oriana and Ricardo. Too bad they didn't play all of it. Does anyone know the name of the song and the male singer who sings it?

Paquita, another wonderful recap! I really enjoy your writing style.

My odds 'n ends thoughts:
--I am relieved that Ricky asked Orines in a CALM manner if she still loved JL.

--I am RELIEVED that Orines told Ricky that she did NOT love JL. I think I was so relieved at this straightforward and direct answer that I pretty much didn't care what happened afterwards

--I'm actually glad JL showed up to ruin the party as this allowed Orines to see that his previous phone conversation was a lie. How could anyone in their right mind believe that the mob would just let JL go after this last job?!

--Padre Plaid to the rescue. Way to go Mariano. He met JL toe to toe and WON.

--Berto looks so filthy and dirty that I can literally smell him through the TV. I now turn away when I see him and the equally filthy Benigno

Thank you, Paquita!!!

Fatima

One last thing (Ha!):

Both JL and Benigno are using and manipulating their children to get what they want. Maria has pretty much lost any chance at a decent life, but Alina's is just starting.

JL is cruel to do this to his daughter which makes me wonder if there aren't some hidden and possibly greater psychological issues there if he could do this to a child.

Manipulation and control are NOT love.

Fatima

Excellent recap, Paquita!

Like Ori and some of you, I want to believe JL, but then he does something SO manipulative like coming to the party when he knew how much trouble it would cause. Poor Lina!

I'm glad Ori told her the truth about their circumstances, but it's a lot for a little girl to take in and understand. So very sad. I was glad to hear Ori saying she wants to arrange for Paloma to become Lina’s guardian in case she goes to jail.

Enough adults now suspect/know that Sebas and Fabi are seeing each other and they don't like it, but is the damage already done? It was painful watching that phone conversation and to see how Fabi was being deceived.

Ricky should just let JL buy out that other company, but something tells me that JL won't stop being a thorn in their sides even if he stops trying to invest in their business. Padre is right. If JL really loved Ori and Lina, he wouldn’t be putting them in continued danger by hanging around or threatening to drag Ori to jail with him. Doesn’t he think he’s already done enough damage to his wife and child?

Vivi in DC, you reminded me of the other "odds 'n ends" thought I had which was so very important:

--Ori finally seeing that she needs to make plans for Lina's care and that Paloma was the first person to come to mind.

The other thing I have been wondering (because the writing has been absolutely top notch) and anticipating, is how the writers will have Alina really "see" her father for what he is and for what he has done to them as a family.

That is a pretty tall order for the writers as Alina will have to come to this realization HERSELF. No number of adults telling her what her father is or isn't will do it. Alina has to see it for herself and I am wondering just how the writers will accomplish this.

How many times can I say it? I love this TN for the way it is written and for the believable actions on the parts of the characters! Yippee!!

Fatima

5ft - Thanks a bunch. Great recap.

I don't know if JL started out on the dark side or has descended there, but that was indeed cruel. He had to know they would hustle him out of the party in front of Alina. Agree Padre Plaid handled it well. Ricky, not so much. Never ever even talk about taking a pink bike away from a little girl.

On fashion, I actually thought Raquel's dress was just fine. But Oriana's super-tight brown pants and the high flapper blouse, nope. Oriana has a great body, but few could pull that off.

Making Paloma guardian is a good idea, but she's elderly and who knows what Matilda's put in those apples. I think Padre Plaid would make a good back-up guardian, but I don’t know if priests can do that.

ITA that the way Oriana explained the situation to Alina was excellent. If only Oriana would talk to Fabiola about Sebas.

Fatima, handclaps around for your amazing comments! You speak for me re JL-a complete slimebag; I am always side-eyeing him because he always manages to sink lower than a guy if his breeding and sophistication should. There's always another shoe dropping with him.

And yes to the realism of this novela. It is unnerving, in a good way, how our protags act in realistic, believeable ways. I love how when there's an issue wrt Orianez, Ricky calls
Mariano and Pierro to discuss it with Orianez to figure out a plan. These protas are, for all the requisite TN drama in their lives, reasonable. I'm always shocked when the Televisa Presenta voice over comes on at the beginning of this novela. I keep on thinking, 'I can't believe Televisa greenlighted this.' I'm shocked every time.

Oops. Paquita, thanks so much for the recap!

J desde NYC, oh my! That is SO very kind of you to compliment me. :)) I'm such a newbie at this, but this TN just surprises me at every turn. After "Amor Bravio", I didn't think anything could match up to the wonderful writing and acting in that one, but these writers have hit it out of the ballpark!

I agree about your Televisa comment! These are the same jokers putting on CI. Makes it hard to believe that the two TN are coming from the same place! LOL!

Thank you again, J desde NYC! :))

Fatima

Fatima and JL- But the sad truth is that in both Mexico and the US, CI is more of a hit than Mentir. So it's not Televisa that's crazy and has no taste, it's the audience.

Wonderful recap! Thanks! :)

Berto and his stupid puns! :D EliFeo! :D

If Seba loved Fabi, he would pay attention of her, but he was only intrested in PS Game in their phone scene. Poor Fabi, Seba needs just sex with young girls. If she finds out this, she will break down, and his mother 100% will say: I said this.

I loved Lucina hair at the party, it was a bit different than the usual. And it wasn't a boring party than in cap26.

Ricky "got a big slap" in his face when Alina noticed his father on the party and she was not nosy that she got from Ricky. And I'm sure Alina will be hostile with Ricky, because sending away of his father. She loved JL.

This is terrible, because I really do feel for Fabiola, but when Sebastian was playing his game and talking to her at the same time, I turned to Mr. 5ft and said..."Well, he did say it's like they're married now."

I'm surprised Sebas is even playing along like he's still interested in Fabi. I guess he figures he can get her to have sex with him a few more times before he dumps her.

Unfortunately for Fabi, I'm sure Sabe will use her for awhile. He'll thrive on the power he'll have over her as her first. She'll fall hard and MadHilda will not be understanding. OMG -- just had a TN style thought. What if she's preggers and Maddies tries to force him to marry her, to save face! Egads!

As for that slimebag JL, I'm sure we haven't heard his full story yet. At the beginning of the TN, we met Oriana and Jose Luis after he'd been caught and the police were on his heels. Who knows how long he's been at this -- It's sure to come out that he was using their bank account to launder some of the money. I tend to think that somewhere in that dark, putrid heart of his he does love Oriana and Alina but he's unable to turn his back on his illicit past. And we haven't heard the last of his "socio" either.

Oh boy, the avances show what we all supposed would happen -- the affair between Raquel and JL. This is gonna be good. I'd say they deserve each other but I still kinda like Raquel but she's used a few people along the way and continues to do so. I'm afraid she'll meet her match with JL.

What a great recap Paquita. I haven't watched the second half of this episode but with this I understand perfectly what has happened and can even visualize it. Well done.

I was tolerant even to the point of almost liking Sebastian, but now... not so much. What a twerp.

My favorite is still Raquel with Lucina a close second, but I'm getting such a kick out of Berto. He is such a rodent, but I enjoy every moment he is on the screen.

I was so impressed that JL thought to bring Alina her teddy bear but he has done not one other single thing to make me like him.

Vivi - maybe the reason CI is more popular than Mentir is that Ana Brenda and Daniel Arenas are MUCH better eye candy than Mayrin and David. David Zepeda as a galan ... pshhh! Seems the writing, acting and editing have very little to do with these popularity contests.

Vivi in DC, yes, you are so right. It's the audience with the bad taste (we, of course, have EXCELLENT taste!).

Anon@6:10,yes, I suspect you are correct.

AlejoP,I was actually wondering how Ricky felt when Lina basically ignored his gift. I have to go back and see his face see what I can "read".

Fatima

Anon- Yes. ABC is beautiful, but Mayrin is nothing to sneeze at either. Daniel's galan is such a weak jerk, I don't think any woman watching finds him attractive anymore (in this role). I'm rolling my eyes so much during CI now (I watch because I recrap it—not a typo), that I don't even notice what anyone looks like anymore. LOL!

Thanks Paquita, I've had such a busy day that I'm just now able to watch the show and comment on it.

I think that with everything else everyone has said about Sebastian, he first and foremost wants to get back at Ricardo. Remember that Ricardo threatened him to stay away from Fabiola.

JL lying about not coming to the party and then showing up had to be the clincher for Oriana, or I hope it was. And for the rest of the viewers who are on JL's side still, does his lying about his boss letting him out of the deal convince you that he's not on the up and up?

I really like Piero. I hope he finds a nice woman.

With Antonio telling JL about the new takeover company that Ricardo is interested in, perhaps JL will get involved with that company and Ric learns that Antonio is the one spilling the beans to him.

I don't like Daniel Arenas, his face as a scone, scone-faced, too flat. :D I think that Mexicans love the "Maria-trilogy" and they were curios a new version.

It's difficult to find out what the audience will like. Now there is Robó in Mexico, it has better and improving rating than La tempestad, but not enough. The numbers are under the required minimum level (24-25p.) And here the eye-candy theory of Anonym failed because of Rulli and Boyer.

By the way, for our friends watching in other countries, the Univision tns are not being shown this evening because of the Latin Grammy. No new shows or recaps until Friday and the weekend.

Paquita thanks for your recap. I loved your asides.

I feel badly for Fabi and I'm sure we'll see Seba go as low as crazy JL seems to be going.

ITA 5 ft/Fatima on JL. He keeps manipulating Oriana in terrible ways that demonstrate his wretchedness.

May I just say that I am sad we won't be seeing the events in Hermosillo tonight?!

So, gang, keep the excellent comments coming!

Karen, yes, ITA with you. JL is wretched in my book because of the way he has manipulated and used his family. He does not speak the truth.

Fatima

Not only you Fatima, I am also sad. For me a weekend is also long without Mentir and now plus one day.

AlejoP, I am so glad you are a part of this wonderful group. You and Jarocha provide us with so many wonderful tidbits of info!

I watched this episode again last night. I think Fabi knows in her heart that Seba used her. I thought the young actress delivered some good acting with her body language both in the car as the jerk is telling her to "clean up" and after she got out of the car. The way she held and carried herself told me that this encounter was not of her dreams.

It dismayed me to hear her tell that jerk Seba that she loved him. She was just another notch on his card, but she doesn't know it yet. We've seen very few TN cliches here, so I hope she does not become pregnant.

The other thing that struck me was when Padre Plaid was speaking to JL outside the house. Did you see how quickly JL was ready to turn on Oriana when he literally spat at our Padre when he asked him "And do you know who Oriana is?!"

JERK!

I am also enjoying Ricky's/David's moments of pure tenderness with Oriana. I see a softness in David Zepeda's face that I have not seen too often. I'm glad that he is growing as a galan.

Alina is Oriana's Achilles Heel. JL is going to exploit this every way he can. I do not like it.

Fatima

I love that I don't know where this is going. Ricky knows that Antonio is the weak link. JL now knows that Oriana's true ID is known not only by Ricky but by the Padre too. And Berto may be greasy but he's no dummy. The writers have done a great job.

Niecie in MD, ITA!!

Just want a feel for whether I should post a weekend topic today or hold it until next weekend, which is Thanksgiving weekend. Normally I don't post one on the weekend of a finale, but I don't recall our traffic from last Thanksgiving weekend.

Any thoughts on this?

So I am happy as part of your gang. :) Unfortunatelly when was Mentir in Mexico, there was summer, and in summet I haven't got net connection, so I didn't talk about it anybody.

Fabi's pregnancy would be a telenovela cliche, but it would be a good teaching example for young naive girls. Ad I hope if Zarattini fires this element, it will be cretatively and she will show something new. Her stories often be unpredictable. Childbearing can cause great friction in Aresti-Camargo family, but I think it would be enough, if Maddy would become aware of the sexual relation of youngsters. Maddy would cut up rough.

JL hasn't got any method of recover Ori outside using of Alina, it shows he isn't a good man. It's not imposing for Oriana, preferably repulsive. I'm nosy for that if JL espy that out priest is looking Ori with "similar eyes".

I won't use the "S" word, so I'll just say that Phoniana is a loose woman, and an adulterous. Sorry, but I can't sympathize. I resented Ricardo telling Padre Plaid that he needed the advice of a man, not a priest. That bugged the heck out of me. I'm 100% against the pairing of those two.

Chastity is the pearl of great price and poor Fabi lost it to Sebastian who has simply used Fabi as a vessel for his own pleasure. Those tears she shed in the car were heartbreaking.

Where did they get that little girl who plays Phoniana's wee one? Not only is she adorable, but she's a natural. Her performance was heartbreaking as well. She said innocently through her tears, "Porque tantas mentiras?" Why indeed.

Make that "adulteress."

One more thing. It was TERRIBLE the way Phoniana handled telling her husband to leave princess's party IN FRONT OF the child. What selfish behavior. All to protect her fraud. But in front of the child?

I know all about divorce and what happens to children of divorce, and parents who use their kids like ping pong balls should lose parental rights.

What fraudulent Phoniana did was hurtful to daughter. This is exactly the kind of hurt that can last a lifetime. She could have pulled her husband aside. But she didn't because it's all about her.

Urban, if you wait until next weekend, it could get lost on the holiday given the shopping madness of that weekend.

For myself, even if I don't comment, I so very much enjoy the discussion.

So, I vote for: THIS WEEKEND.

Fatima
