Mentir Para Vivir #37 Wed 11/27/13 A mime in front of a children's school, really?
Ricky’s Place
Ricky is ambushed by the paparazzi at his door.
Celio and Fermin tell him they've been at it all day. Once he's gone - Celio and Fer get to talking. Celio's been there a long time. The only thing he knows for sure is that Benigno was a good for nothing drunk who always beat his daughter.
Ricky does his best to console his Tia Fidelia. He's hiring an attorney to help them through this crisis. Fidelia can't understand how someone so good, with everything going for him could have done such a thing when he was younger. She's worried about the impact the scandal will have on the family name and business. She's sure that drunk Benigno just wants the money. Ricky assures her nothing will happen and warns her not to say anything about the scandal to Paloma.
After Ricky leaves, Fidelia and Marilu discuss the matter amongst themselves. Marilu reminds her he was just a kid when it happened and Maria is a loca. Not only that, but she's a bit of a floozy (resvalosa). Marilu remembers when Maria flirted with Mariano, a priest! Can you imagine? It's very clear she likes men, with or without sotana (cassock).
Ricky finally makes it to his Bungalo Azul -- he instructs Celio to get the guns out of the car. He had planned to hide them in the safe in the house but doesn’t want to give any explanations. He leaves it to poor Celio to figure out where to hide them. For now, he's tired and needs to rest. Poor Celio -- this does not bode well.
Ministerio Publico
Benigno and Berto arrive but Berto refuses to accompany him. "Just tell them what you saw and nothing more." He has to remind Benigno not to walk in with his beer (chortle). Inside, Benigno starts to file charges against Ricky. He says Ricky raped his daughter 19 years ago, resulting in her pregnancy. “That child is Licenciado Breton's and he must pay for what he's done, que no?” asks Benigno. “At least that's the way I see it.” The official seems a bit skeptical.
Outside, Benigno meets up with Berto. He reports that the official suggested he hire an attorney because it's been so long since the alleged crime. He balks at the cost of an attorney. Berto seems worried.
Psych Ward
Ricky visits with Maria. She tells him Sebas visited her this morning and told her that Ricky is a bad man and only wants to put Sebas in jail because of the "secret", which she still refuses to divulge to Ricky. He asks if she remembers the night of "the party". She recalls she liked him very much and was kind of spying on him. We see a flashback as she explains. She could see he was very sick and that his friends were with him. Antonio is the one who noticed her first, recognizing her as the gardener's daughter. Antonio runs to her and Piero follows. Antonio starts putting the move on her and tells her not to worry about Ricky.Back in the present, she tells Ricky they were very nice to her, made her feel pretty, kissed her and were caressed her (acariciaron). We go back to the flashback and see that both Tony and Piero are sweet talking her, telling her she's pretty. The last we see, Tony has pulled her dress off her shoulder. Maria recalls they left but Ricky was still there, passed out. She goes up to him and kisses him. She tells Ricky she had hoped he would also make love to her but he was really sick. That's why she snuggled up to him and they both fell asleep. Next thing she knows, her father is yelling and making a fuss. Ricky asks if he did anything to her. She repeats that she wanted him to and tried to wake him but nothing happened. But she was very happy just to sleep next to him, hearing his heart beat. Ricky realizes this is the "secret" between her and Sebas. She asks him please not to let Sebas know she spilled the frijoles cuz he'll surely be angry with her.
Casa de Paloma
Paloma's fallen asleep and Oriana coaxes Alina away. Oriana stays to watch over Paloma and allows the nurse to take a break. She speaks to Paloma while she's sleeping: "Abuela I love you very much. I barely knew my mother and my grandparents died before I was born. My father was a marvelous man but he was out of my life (dead?) when I was very young. Then I married Jose Luis. We got along fine. The day my daughter was born, it was a though the sun came in through the window. Then I met you and despite all the problems with Maddie, I feel as though I am part of a family (literally, blanketed by a family) but I've told you so many lies. I've deceived you. I'm not who you think I am." Paloma speaks and Oriana seems surprised to learn she's awake after all. "I don't want to know anything," says Paloma. "Perhaps I'm living in a rose colored world, but Lina and you have made me so happy. I don't want to wake from that dream." Paloma reaches her hand out to Oriana, who holds it tenderly.
Hotel Casa Bonita
Ruben and Lucina are at the breakfast table discussing Ricky's scandal. Ruben doesn't think the scandal will hurt business much since so many of Ricky's clients are overseas and may not have heard the news yet. Francisco Castro walks in and Ruben gives him the cold shoulder. JL isn't staying for breakfast and he just came down to tell Lucina that Ines advised him she is also Lucina's partner and has no interest in another. He coldly tells Lucina they're missing out on a good deal and leaves. Luciana isn’t one bit sorry and doesn't feel they're missing out on anything, thank you very much. She wasn't planning on accepting his offer anyway. Ruben doesn't know why she doesn't kick him and that slimy Berto out. We learn he's already told Lucina about what he overheard. Lucina doesn't want to think about that right now, there's something else on her mind for the moment. Ruben is off to see his bud Feliciano about a job.
Lucina calls her bud, Manolo. She scolds him for not calling her. She asks about El Descanso and learns it sits abandoned. He even had to go kick out some squatters the other day. He has no idea why anyone would have bought it, perhaps to launder money, maybe? BINGO! but he's not investigating that -- it's not his area of expertise. She invites him to Hermosillo
Aresti Breton
Ricky is brooding in his office when Piero arrives who can tell Ricky's read the papers. Ricky doesn’t care about that now. Piero urges him to fix this for the sake of the business, among other things. He's also come to tell him that the doctor is ready to take a sample from Maria today for the DNA tests and can take theirs today as well. Ricky tells him Maria already told him the whole story, that he, Ricky, had no relations with that woman, Maria. What's worse, Seba knew and didn't tell him. Piero is sure Seba is only worried Ricky will strip him of his surname and his mother's inheritance. Ricky swears he would do no such thing out of respect for his parents, and for Seba too. Ricky is curious to see what Piero will do if it turns out Seba is his son.
Casa de Paloma
Oriana and the nurse are watching over a still sleeping Paloma. Oriana worries that she's still asleep. The nurse explains its just the meds. The doctor prescribed them to keep her calm. Once her heart is stronger they'll wean her off little by little. She assures Oriana that Paloma is fine.
Oriana gets an urgent call from Ricky saying must see her at once.
They meet in the courtyard. He immediately asks if she’s going to reconcile with her husband. She doesn't really answer his question. He tells her that although she effectively sent him to the devil, he hasn't stopped thinking of her. Above all, he doesn't want to bother Paloma. Switching gears, he's received an e-mail from Manriquez in Colombia. Since he's gone there representing her in the infamous banking account issue, the Colombian authorities are now asking that she present herself. “What?! Are you cray-cray? I'll be arrested and then what? What if they won't let me return?” He offers to go with her. His attorneys can handle the scandal. She worries about Paloma, who will surely be worried. Besides, she has no passport and no way to get one because all her documents are in the name of Ines Valdivia. She wonders why he insists on doing this. Ricky tells her that despite everything, he's not ashamed to tell her he still lurves her!!! They embrace.
Lina's School
uh-oh -- JL arrives with a humongous stuffed dog. Jorge tries to intervene but Eliseo gets between them and for some reason a mime, yes you read right, a mime also jumps around Jorge. (do they have mimes hanging around schools in Hermosillo? strange) Jorge tells JL he must take Lina home but JL refuses and says they're gonna go out to eat and Lina of course wants to go with her Daddy. Jorge jumps into the SUV and calls Oriana. She and Ricky leave immediately, knowing JL is actually kidnapping Alina.
Once in the car, Lina worries that she hasn't told mommy. No worries, says JL, he's already told her. Eliseo signals him that they're being followed. Jorge is trying to keep up. He still has Oriana on the phone and tells her they're on Calle Centenario and fears they may be trying to leave the city. Ricky and Oriana are already on their way. Oriana is frantic. Back in JL's car, Lina has noticed they're going awfully fast but JL just jokes that it's because he's really hungry. Note: Lina isn't wearing a seatbelt but JL is -- jerk.
They've gone too fast for Jorge. He's lost them. Oriana is panicking. Luckily Ricky is familiar with Calle Centenario. He doesn't think JL would be stupid enough to try to kidnap her. They can alert the authorities. It shouldn't be too hard to spot a man with a little girl. Oriana now wonders what if he takes her to another country in a private plane?! He's crazy enough to try that!
Good ol' Jorge spots them at Kids Club & Burger. He smartly drives by and Eliseo seems to think he wasn't noticed. Jorge keeps Oriana informed and tells her he'll park on another street to avoid detection.
JL and Lina are inside Kids Club & Burger and he starts spewing his evil, telling her he loves her mother but she stopped loving him. She's fallen in love with Ricky, who's told her terrible things about him. Lina asks if he's done something wrong (indebido) so that the police are now looking for him. JL tells her the one who's done something wrong is Ricky. Things so wrong, he can't even tell her about them because she's so young. Now, he's willing to forgive Mommy because he loves her so much but she doesn't believe him. He asks if she's willing to live with her mommy and that man, who many years ago abused a young woman. Lina doesn't know what that means and JL tries to rephrase it, saying Ricky took advantage of the young woman's innocence. “So, how 'bout it kid, you wanna come live with papa?” Lina hesitates when she learns he means for her to go without her mother. He knows Lina loves her mother, but people change. If mommy and that man marry and have children, mommy will push Lina aside. Poor Alina is heartbroken. JL makes a face like he really cares what he’s putting this poor kid through. Ricky and Oriana arrive in the nick of time -- Eliseo tries to stop them. Oriana ducks past him and Ricky simply takes him and shoves him into the driver’s side window - CAPOW! Ricky orders Jorge to call the police - tell them anything, but get them here to take this tipo away.
Inside, Alina has started to cry, saying she wants to be with both her mother and father. JL tells her that's impossible. Oriana gets to them just then, pulling Alina away and pushing JL's hand away when he reaches out to Alina. Oriana and Alina walk away and then Alina sees Ricky. She puts on her brakes and tells mommy he’s a bad man. Her daddy told her so. Oriana assures her this isn't true. Alina wants to get her stuffed dog, which Oriana allows her to do. Alina runs back and hugs her father, then gets her toy and backpack and walks away from JL. Ricky tells Oriana to wait for him at his car because he doesn't want Alina to hear what he has to say to this dude. Oriana tells him to be careful.
Alone with JL, Ricky tells him it takes more than a stuffed animal to win over a child. JL pulls out a gun but sets it down. He explains he had no intention of kidnapping his daughter. He’s not stupid. He only suggested to Lina that since her mother no longer wanted him, maybe the two of them could go away together. Ricky accuses him of speaking ill of him in order to win her over. JL suggests that according to the newspapers, Ricky is no white dove. Ricky defends himself, saying he did nothing to that girl and that he's not Sebastian’s father and he has the medial results to prove that. Ricky knows JL is a criminal and smuggler and who know what else. JL says Oriana was his accomplice and also assumed someone else's identity. Ricky counters that it remains to be see if it can be proved she was his accomplice. As for using someone's identity - that was due to the circumstances. Don't matter, says JL, it's still a crime. “That's how you show her you love her?” asks Ricky. JL says he’s capable of doing anything to keep his family together. Ricky says he's also capable of anything in order to stop JL. Oriana and Alina are no longer his family! He's gotten close enough now to reach for the gun but only manages to pin JL's hand to the table. JL wonders if Ricky has ever killed anyone. “No, but if it means killing you, I can learn.” JL: “What you fail to understand is that Oriana is my wife. We're married!” Ricky: “No! Ines Valdivia and Francisco Castro are not married. The child doesn't even carry your name. Neither of you can talk or you'd both end up in jail!" JL: "I don't want her to go to jail. All I want is for them to be with me! I can take them to another country! I can convince them.” Ricky doubts that. JL: "Why, because she's in love with you? Love comes and goes. Besides, think about it -- Alina adores me." JL puts his gun back into his belt at his backside then suggests they make a deal. Ricky wants no deal with him and instead suggests he go look for his bodyguard at the police station. Ricky backs away from him and finally walks out. JL just stare at him. If looks could kill...
Casa de Paloma
Alina runs in ahead of her mother, carrying her stuffed animal. Oriana quickly tells Nadia everything is okie dokie and Jorge will return soon. Nadia and the other manservant (name?) compare notes. El Inginiero was seen here at all hours the other night. Today, they were talking but left in a hurry after she received a call. And where's Jorge? hmmmm (WTH is it with this conversation?)
In Alina's room, Alina tells Oriana she's bad, just like Ricardo. Oriana tells her that what JL said about Ricky were lies. Alina cries that she wants to go with her father. Why can't they go with her father, por que? Oriana reaches over to kiss her, but Alina firmly tells her “No! No quiero!”
Ministerio Publico
Eliseo is pithed! Telling the agent how badly he was beaten. Apparently, Jorge told them Eliseo was disrespectful to the woman he was with. Eliseo is greatly offended by this, saying it ain't so. He's a decent man, etc, etc.. Just then, JL waltzes in, apologizes to the officer and says it was just an accident, excuse the ring. He calmly takes Eliseo by the arm and they walk out. Outside, Eliseo continues to rage, saying he'd never disrespect JL's woman. JL just tells him to shut up, which Eliseo of course does not. Eliseo again asks to just off Ricky. After all, muerto el perro, se acaba la rabia (no rabies/rage once the dog is dead). JL only responds they'll leave that as the last resort.
Casa de Paloma
Ricky returns to a very concerned Oriana. Ricky tells her what JL wants and he refuses to allow that to happen. Oriana is very worried. Alina is crying a river of tears. She hasn't even paid any attention to Tito and won't let go of that stuffed animal. Ricky fears JL's tactic is working. He wants to turn Alina against Oriana. Oriana repeats she would never part with her daughter. She'd die first. She only did all this for her. She sees no other alternative than to return to him. Ricky refuses to give in. They can get protection for both Oriana and Alina. That may be so, says Ricky, but he's walking on thin ice. Sooner or later he's gonna slip and then they’ll catch him. “Along with me, too,” worries Oriana. Ricky: "We must tell Paloma everything. If we don't, imagine how she'd feel if she finds out he tried to kidnap Alina! She already knows he's bad news." Oriana repeats she has no other way out but to give in. Ricky begs her not to give in. There’s an awkward shift in the dialogue here as Oriana suddenly asks about his other problem. Ricky tells her about his talk with Maria. Sebastian is not his son.

Ricky tells Piero they must hire a car with two 24 hr body guards for Oriana and Alina. Next, they need a plan to legalize Oriana's and Alina's situation. Piero's worried about the time. They have an appointment for the DNA test. Tony's not coming -- he resigned yesterday.
Casa Paloma
Alina's still upset. Oriana's had to walk Tito. She hands Tito over to the maid then tries to call Mariano who isn't avail.
Aresti Breton
Ricky has managed to get in touch with Mariano who isn't in town. Ricky tells him it's urgent he see him as soon as he returns. A lot has happened (I'll say).
Ricky's meeting with Piero and an attorney regarding Oriana -- would it really be necessary for Oriana to present herself (in Colombia)? The subjectof her passport comes up again and the attorney suggests it may be best to wait for Manriquez' return. He may have some connections that may help them.
Casa de Paloma
Fabi calls Sabestian, who's busy with his video again. She's called because of what she's read in the paper. He must feel terrible, poor thing. Sebastian, never one to pass up an opportunity, suggests she come over and console him if she's so worried. He complains she probably doesn’t love him anymore now that she knows his mother is a loca. She feels she's already proved how much she loves him. He tells her to stop making excuses. If she really loves him, she'll find a way to see him. He needs her so much. She, of course, gives in and promises to get out so no one sees her. ugh.
Oriana is with Paloma who complains about being such a zombie. Oriana tries to cheer her up, telling her it's only temporary. Paloma knows there are a lot of things about Ines' life she doesn’t' know about. Before she "goes away" she'd like Ines to tell her everything.
Ruh-roh - Fabi is looking fab, lipstick and everything. She hesitates for a split second but then flees her gilded cage after seeing an empty birdcage hanging in her room with the door wide open. She must see that as a sign. There' a very quick scene, which I'm sure was edited, of Sebastian pawing her and Fabi trying to stop him, telling him “No, it's not right.” Next thing we see, she's walking out of the apartment building, shoes in hand and completely disheveled. Piero happens to be driving by and he sees the state she's in. When he approaches her, she collapses in his arms, crying. sooo sad.
Back to Paloma: She doesn't care if it's good or bad, she wants to hear it all. "Ines" promises. As much as she's tried, Paloma just isn't able to understand her. It's true that she has Palomita's stubborn streak but there's something different about her, something that just doesn't jive. She repeats that she wants to know everything about her.
Labels: mentir
Then the scene with Fabiola and Sebastian -- that had to have been edited down. C'mon. Not that I want to see him mistreat her but it was so weird. And why was she walking out like that? What did he do or say to her? Weird.
I must be tired cuz the dialogue really got on my nerves tonight.
So JL is willing to destroy Alina's happy-go-lucky nature to reclaim his family? Lower than low. I'm beginning to think there is only one way Oriana can be rid of him. As someone mentioned earlier, surely the mob will be ticked at him for wasting so much time on personal business.
Sorry Sebas didn't take "no" for an answer, but at least now poor Fabiola knows he is not the boy of her dreams. Hope Piero makes her understand she does not deserve to be treated this way.
Ricky, nice standoff with JL in Kids Club & Burger. But then you have Celio hide the guns. Really? Padre Plaid, come home. You're sorely needed.
I don't even know where to start, but I think I will watch the episode again before I say much.
The one thing I absolutely did like is that Ricky stood toe to toe with that wretched, sorry, lame excuse of a JL.
For what he has done to Alina, JL is dead to me. He has shown his true nature. He had already crossed over to the Dark Side during the early years of the marriage to Oriana. I am almost sure of it.
Just think about his LOUSY excuse that "they made me do it". Please! That is an excuse that children use, buster.
So much in this episode, so much.
Thank you, Paquita!
Happy Thanksgiving to the MPV gang!
Fatima
We didn't see much, but I think that is what Sebastian did to Fabiola was rape.
Even though she is a secondary character, the most tragic figure is Maria. All she had known most of her life was an abusive father, so it's no wonder that the three young men looked so attractive to her. They were at the opposite end of the spectrum from her father.
It's still not clear to me whether or not she was mentally challenged at birth or if the neglect of her seizures and other health issues contributed to her inability to her diminished mental capacity, but even though she wanted to be with Ricky, Piero, and Antonio, I wonder how the courts in Mexico would rule on what, by all accounts, seemed to be consensual sex.
I would hate to see Fabiola become pregnant. I so hope the writers don't go down that path.
Fatima
Although it was disjointed, I like that Ori isn't all me, me, me, and asked how Ricky's life is going. It's one of my pet peeves about tn protagonists. They often forget that they aren't the center of the universe and other people have issues too (ahem, Elisa in Abismo).
As for the rape scene, Uni edited that for our delicate American sensitivities. But I was actually happy not to see poor Fabi getting date raped. I'm so glad Piero was there for her right after. Now what will they do? Will she press charges against Sebastard? I sure hope so.
I'm sure being there for Fabi through this will make Piero feel all kinds of guilty about what he and Tony did to Maria (even though she was willing, she didn't have the ability to consent and they were pressuring her).
JL shows each episode what a bad man he is. What he's doing to poor Alina is the worst. Poor kid.
I hit send just as I saw the poorly written sentence. :(
Fatima
So I guess the first time Sebastard and Fabi were together she wasn't force? I feel for her and hope she is not pregnant.
ITA w/you all on JL decent into horrid villainy. He told her daughter all those lies w/no remorse. Unfortunately he won't stop 'til he's dead.
I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving.
Seriously? A mime?!
And making Celio figure out what to do with the guns?
Pobre Fabiola! I'm afraid of the horrible things her mother's going to say when/if she finds out.
JL is such a tool. For someone who was dragged into a life of crime against his will, he's doing a great job of fitting right in. I'm looking forward to a colorful comeuppance for him...just prison won't do.
I feel the most sorry for Alina. This is such a huge and awful thing she has to deal with at such a young age. Shame on JL. Now if he could be eliminated...
Fabiola may not want to press charges since she willingly went over there to have sex with him. She just didn't expect to get raped. I can see Sebastian blaming her for this and then he'll be all sorry and then she goes back with him. But I hope not.
One observation, the argument with JL & Ricky, JL never got up, the reason is, Diego Oliveras is 6'4 1/2 & DZ is 6'. we can't have the bad guy taller than the good guy in a face off.
I second, third, fourth and fifth all the comments about JL the tooly douche. Such.a.sleaze.
The actress playing Maria is so good. Her story breaks my heart.
The is no redemption for Sebaceous cyst (not an autocorrect.)
I wonder how long it will take to get the DNA test results. On another one, it took around 2 weeks.
This capitulo had so serious scenes, that I loved.
I agree with Fatima, Maria has a very tragic destiny, only a secondary character but I can feel with him.
LOL Vivi: like in Elisa in Abismo. Oh, I hate the main characters, I liked only Paloma, but the other three: yuck! Nonetheless I loved that show, it was a guilty pleasure for me.
So I wasn't bothered by incoherent dialogues, because I think it showed that Oriana is interested in Ricky's problem. They are trying to help each other despite their fights. Yesterday stormclouds were in their relation, but today don't.
For me what was so ridiculous: Benigno files charges. What father does he like? After 18 years? Disbelieving, old pig!
I loved the face to face minutes in the Kid Burger. Ricky wasn't too nervous, but he was stringent. That shows JL is not too brave, he put out the gun on the table. Without gun, he might not feel so strong against another man.
And yes Diego Olivera is taller than Ricky, like in LFDD Camilo (Gabriel Soto).
That shows JL is not too brave, he put out the gun on the table.
Finally in the Sebastian-Fabiola rape scene, there was an ugly picture on the wall. A face without skin of a screaming man. He would try to scream but he can't. And in the show, Fabi is shouting, but nobody hears. I love the similar hidden symbolic meaning objects.
How in the world did I miss that?!
Very good observation about that picture relative to Fabiola's silent screams.
Fatima
OK, I like Ricky...I like a man that will baby me, beg me and literally let me get away with murder.
I don't like Paloma's character. She says that Inez past doesn't matter, yet she's sending detectives out to investigate her and then she's constantly asking her about it. If it doesn't matter then let it go.
I didn't watch this episode, but the recap was very helpful. Thanks again.
Cynderella
My favorite thing today was Karen's juxtaposition of words:
"...he won't stop 'til he's dead.
I hope everyone has a nice Thanksgiving."
Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
