Mentir Para Vivir #77 Fri 1/24/14 The Great CD Robbery: The Aftermath

Parte 1

Homero and his driver have been left for dead in the middle of the highway inside his abandoned Merc.  Jose Luis has the bulletproof briefcase that ol’ Snoops wasn’t on the ball enough to chain to his wrist.  Viewerville lets out another sigh of resignation.  Apparently Oriana and her posse are back to square one and it’ll be up to Mike the Tike to coach the Scoobie-Do crew from here on out.

Antonio barks at Jose Luis to get into the car.  JL brags that he knew they were going to get it.  Antonio is more cynical: JL was lucky, he says, that Homero de la Garza wasn’t in his bulletproof car.  “—You sure he didn’t recognize you?”  “--Doesn’t matter if he did or not, he’s dead.”  He needs an alibi for this evening so drop him off at Raquel’s place.  And the car?  Get rid of it, growls JL, still high on endorphins from his successful attempt at retrieving his CD of Confession.  “--Junk it and buy another! Claim it was stolen!”

Viewerville is returned to the scene of the crime where, suddenly, Homero’s corpse begins moving.  It raises itself up, squinches its nose and mouth and begins complaining about the pain.  Ol’ Snoops ain’t dead and done for after all!  He was wearing a flak jacket, the crafty old fox!   (A cheer rises up in as high fives slap in /Viewerville's darkened living rooms everywhere.)  Guess there was only one jacket–or else Lucio wasn’t smart enough to remember to put his on--cuz Lucio wasn’t so lucky.  Oops.

Snoops puts in an emergency call to Inspector Carmelo Gadget for an ambulance and then sees that the briefcase is missing.  “—¡Falcón!

Ricardo brings Lina over to Paloma’s for a sleepover with Oriana.  Oriana gives Ric a Welcome Home kiss and Lina rushes them inside.

At the hospital, Carmelo has Snoops checked out.  Gadget, of course, wants to file a regular report but Homero objects.  He’ll tell him why later, but for now nobody is to know he survived the car accident, and he wants a limo with blacked-out windows to take him back home.

Over at Raqi Ramera’s, she and JL are enjoying a relaxing bubble-bath together.  She tries to ferret out what he was up to earlier in the evening.  He avoids answering and gives her a story to tell about how they spent the evening together eating spaghetti, making love and taking a bath together.  “—I have enemies who want to harm me by blaming me for something I didn’t do.”  He asks her to bring him a drink and makes a call to Antonio.  He needs to call that guy he knows and have the guy get rid of the body for him.  Then he’s supposed to take care of Trejo Bonfil and the bankruptcy business.  Antonio is apparently balking and JL tries encouraging him to lighten up telling him how rich he’ll be once this is all over.  Raqi returns with the drinks and brings up keeping the baby.  He’s adamantly against it.  “—No!”

Back at Snoop Mansion, Leonardo and Mike have returned from successfully rescuing Ric from the kidnappers.  He’s going to be a guest there now since he cannot go back to being JL’s chauffeur.  The maid tells him Lucio is very late getting back from driving Snoops to the airport.

Across the way at Palacio de Paloma, Mathilde complains to uber-patient Nadia about the rest of the family treating her as if she were a maid.  Nadia does a major eye-roll and leaves just before Mad Hilde hears about Ric’s rescue and Homero’s supposed death in an auto accident.

Over at Snoop Mansion, Homero’s maid races downstairs to tell Leo and Mike the tragic news.  At the same time, Mad Hilde races into Paloma’s bedroom suite to tell them all the bad news.  Caras horrorizadas de Paloma and the gang.

Leo’s on the house phone immediately, trying to reach Gadget for an explanation ASAPP.  Ric calls Leo on the cell.  He throws it to Mike to answer.  Ric’s just heard the news, he tells Mike, and is coming right over.  Chaos, concern and confusion reign.

Suddenly Grandpa Snoops and Gadget come walking down the stairs and Leo races over to hug his abue.  Homero tells Mike and Leo what happened on the way to the airport and how he suspects it was Jose Luis Falcon.  He gives instructions that everyone must believe he died in the accident and that his body was cremated.  Gadget feels he needs to inform his superiors, but Homero insists he’ll contact them instead.  “—Ricardo’s on his way over.”  Ok, then he’ll trust Ric with the information, but NOBODY ELSE!  Mike asks about the CD.  “—Falcon took it!”

Back at Paloma’s, Oriana and the others take a moment to suffer guilt pangs and to plan his funeral.

Mike pours Homero a much needed tequila.  Mike’s going to have to return to Mexico City and come in from the cold since JL knows what he’s really been up to.  Ric shows up and expresses his relief.

Back at Fort Falcon, Antonio gives JL the bad news about Ric being rescued and the kidnappers being killed in the attempt.  A shame, says JL.  “—I thought I’d finally be rid of the slug.  Well, okay.  The two guys didn’t know we were the ones behind it all, so no worries there.”  Antonio reminds him that Mike knows about the CD and betrayed them by handing it over to Homero.  (Thanks again for nothing, Oriana, you stoooooopid, big-mouth broad!)  JL tells Antonio he’ll have to be the one to “get rid of him.”  Antonio refuses.  He’s no killer.  (So far, he’s not much of a lover, either.)   Yeah, replies JL, but Antonio was an accomplice when JL killed the old man and his driver tonight.

So what, says Antonio?  He wasn’t carrying a gun.  He’s fine with handling business negotiations, but he won’t be turned into a murderer!!  JL tells him that being a lawyer he should know that he’ll still go to jail for the same amount of time, or close to it, anyway, for money-laundering as for murder.  Yeah, he does realize that; and he realizes JL’s got a noose around his neck, but he’s still not going to kill somebody in cold blood, he insists, and then walks out of the manse.

JL considers Antonio's refusal and calls the guy a coward.  He soliloquizes about himself having turned into a murder and questions how he can ever hold his daughter again with hands that have murdered.  “—And all because of that whore, Oriana!"    (That’s right.  When everything goes to hell in a hand basket, blame it all on somebody else.)  "--She’s going to pay!   She’s going to pay for it all!!”
==================

Parte 2

Homero tells Ric that since they no longer have the CD, and since Oriana opened her big mouth can no longer get the goods on the guy, the offer for Witness Protection is probably off the table now.  Ric objects and tells him that an innocent woman shouldn’t be sent to jail and that it’s his duty to fight to keep her under witness protection.  First of all, she’s not exactly innocent, answers Snoops.  There’s that little detail about identity theft and your being an accessory after the fact.  At least, she told them about the new business Falcon and the mob would be trying to organize.  They’ll be able to perhaps get the goods on the mob that way.  “—Is the only thing that interests you your damned criminals?  How about a woman’s painful situation or that of a mother and her daughter?  Doesn’t Paloma or her family matter?”

Of course, says Snoops, but until this matter is solved, Ines isn’t going to be able to live happily ever after.  “--As for the rest of it, I’m retired and have overdone it with those in the High Command by even asking for what I have.  I doubt they’ll grant it.”  Both Ric and Leo ask him to try a bit harder.  Homero says even if, he doubts JL would be foolish enough to accept her back even though he wants her, let alone that 2nes would agree to go back again.  Before going to bed, he reminds Mike that it’s too dangerous staying in Hermosillo.  So, once he’s done making out his report about the kidnapping, he’s to report to the Mexico City office.  Ric is depressed that all of this hell was for nothing.

Ric goes back to Fidelia’s and ignores Marilu’s ministrations. He goes in for a bath.  Oriana calls Ric’s cell and ML answers.  Oriana is disturbed that she’s in his room while the guy’s in the shower.  They chat.  Poor Marilu, as loyal as can be to 2nes, is still ready to seduce Ric if the chance permits, but is frustrated again.

The next day, Oriana takes Alina to school and asks about the psychologist.  She tells Lina to answer all her questions.  JL is spying on the two of them from across the street.

Back at the Blue Bungalow, a much more civil Sebastian tells Ric he’s sick of being stuck at the bungalow.  He opts for going back to his apartment for some more of his things and Bernice offers to drive him there.  First he’s got to get the keys to his car from Aunt Fidelia.  Ric tells him he needs to apologize and she’ll be better able to deal with his being there.  Ric promises to smooth the way by speaking to her first.  They share a real brotherly hug for once.

Meanwhile, Leo tells Paloma that there’s not going to be a religious ceremony for Homero and that he’s cancelling his art show.  Mike sends him out to the wolves…er…the journalists crowding his front lawn, to make a statement.  (This is the best part of the second half of the episodio!)  Leo takes Neron with him and when the journalists rudely refuse to leave the family in peace “during their time of grief” he sics Neron on them.   Neron gets his big break and growls his one-liner.  The journalists scatter.  He lunges at the recalcitrant ones and they all skitter away--to the great satisfaction of Viewerville’s admiring and respectable residents.  Manolo drives up right after and Leo and Mike agree he should know the truth about Homero.

Meanwhile, JL receives a court order restricting him from approaching his daughter in any way.  He calls up Ric to yell and complain about it.  He blames Ric for messing with his wife and daughter’s minds and making him seem like a monster to him.  Ric tells him it’s not his fault, it’s JL’s with his violent and angry outbursts.  He threatens to punch Ric in the nose.  Ric says he’ll be there waiting for him, but before he comes looking for a fight he needs to think about how he’s harmed those who used to love him.  JL’s lost his wife and kid.  “—Who are you to interfere with me and my family?”  “—I am Lina’s adoptive father and as long as I have custody of her, I’m going to look out for her well being and to protect her from you whether you like it or not!”  Click!

JL is spitting mad when he answers an unexpected call from Dr. Varonese about coming in for his next appointment.  JL refuses at the top of his voice and complains about how he’s received an injunction preventing him from visiting his daughter.  Dr. V. says that’s a shame but the only way he’ll get the injunction rescinded is to continue coming for therapy.  JL gives in and makes the appointment.

At the same time, Homero is up and about now.  He insists to Manolo. Leo and Mike that absolutely nobody can learn of his being alive.  He then tells them of his plan to now use Lucina to find out from Raqi what they can to get the goods on JL and his new real estate business he’s planning to launder money through.  Mike asks what about the deal he made with Oriana.  He’s not God, says Homero.  He can only do so much.  (Translation:  She should have kept her pie hole shut cuz if she had she and they wouldn’t be in this mess now!)

Across the way, 2nes tells Paloma she’s upset that Ric hasn’t been calling her as much as before.  After calling last night and having Marilu answer from his bedroom while he was taking a shower makes her wonder how loyal he’s really being to her.  Paloma tells her to fugeddabowdit.  The guy only has eyes for her.  However, Paloma insists, they’re going to need to have a long chat once they know what direction her life will take, especially now that Homero is dead.  That changes things for her.

At the B&B, Lucina and Raqi have a chat.  Raqi tells her that things are going so well between her and JL that she’s going to have a baby.  “—Whose baby is it?”  His of course!  Lu wonders how she can be so sure, all things considered.  Could be either Seb’s or Caesar’s.  Heck, no need to lie, she adds, since Caesar’s already told her how the two of them got it on.  So, she is pretty certain Raqi did the deed with Seb also.  “—You could be infected!  So could Jose Luis and your baby!  You need to get tested!”  “—All right already!  Stop being such a nag!”  [enchinchada, enchinchar=to bug somebody, to nag at]  Raqi changes the subject to the new real estate company JL is setting up and making her “president” of.  She asks Lucina to cash in her part of the B&B in order to give her her share of it.

Lu warns Raqi again that the guy is a criminal and it’ll be bad news if she stays with him.  Raqi says to back off.  Besides, once he’s done with setting up the new real estate company, the two of them are leaving for some tropical isle to live in the lap of luxury and forget that Hermosillo even exists!  Lu believes she’s been brainwashed by the man.  On her way out of the room, she again advises Raqi to get tested.

Later that day, Raquel takes Lu’s advice and calls anonymously to make the appointment at the clinic, claiming she was a rape victim.

Oriana meets with Ric and his two lawyers to suggest that it’s nearly time she turn herself in now that Homero is dead.  She probably has at least till his replacement his sent to take charge of the case.  During that time they will work up the response to the crime of identity theft and fraud; they’ll try to find a sympathetic judge and to get her out on bail.  At least by handing herself in to the authorities, says one of the lawyers, it will demonstrate her desire to comply with the law.

Over at Seb’s apartment he tells Bernice that being sick, he feels the need to be among his family rather that to live alone and on his own.  She tells him they’ve got no reason to deny it.  He just needs to speak to his aunt.  After all, he’s been following Dr. V’s instructions to the letter and his disease is different from his mother’s.  She had a tumor; he doesn’t.  Discuss it with Dr. V if he’s uncertain.

On the way out of the office building Ric and Oriana run into Piero who mentions he heard about Homero’s recent demise.  Ric tells him they’ll chat later and Piero hurries off.  Ricardope turns to Oriana and then tells her that Homero really isn’t dead.

Raqi shows up for her test at the clinic.  It will be three or four days till she has the results.

Ric and Oriana make a surprise visit to Snoop Mansion.  He tells Ric it’s obvious he can’t be trusted.  Oriana is fit to be tied.  “—Neither can you!  You promised to protect me, but now that I’m useless to you, you abandon me to chance. Right? After you forced me to live with him, to live with his bullying and his abuse, his insinuations, his fondling and pawing!”  Not so fast, he advises.  He went ahead and put a call in to the higher-ups to explain and ask if there was still some way to keep her on the program and they’re looking into it for him; but he does doubt that the response will be favorable.  Ric gets angry at this and warns that if she does go in, that she will not leave anything unsaid.  She’ll tell them about all of it, including Castro’s true identity and what his plans are for the next money-laundering venture the guy’s going to be setting up.   In other words, she’s going to blow the cover on the Fed’s case, and all of Mike’s time undercover along with Snoop’s machinations, will all go down the proverbial drain [caño= drain pipe, sewer pipe].”

Homero says, ok, but why say anything about Castro being her husband?  Tell them that he died in Columbia like they think.  Oriana screams back angrily against that.  “—NO!”  No more lies!”  What’s the big deal?  You won’t even set foot in a jail, or at most no more than twenty-four hours, he assures her.  But what about her daughter, says Ric.  “--Her mother goes to jail, the girl lives with the stigma of having criminals in her family and Oriana never gets back custody of Alina!” Oriana looks at Homero with disgust.  “—How could you be so wicked?”

“--Who me?  I am not wicked, but I never imagined you would take me seriously about handing yourself over.  I always thought you’d continue on as you have till now, living quietly, unassumingly, as Ines Valdivia.”  2nes can still do that, Homer insists.  No. She refuses, she says, to live that way.  She wants to be free of worries and fretting [zozobrar].  “—You promised!!  You promised me!!”  “--Okay, okay!  I’ll do whatever I can to try getting you back into the witness protection program.”  He turns to Ric, then.  “—And you, kiddo.  You think you’re so clever now, but mark my words!  You’ll never manage to have any sense of peace until that man is dead and gone!”

Meanwhile, Antonio is back at Fort Falcon discussing Raqi’s being preggers with JL’s baby and his insistence that she abort it.  Antonio asks if she’s agreed to the abortion.  “—She’ll have to agree to abort if she expects to be president of this new real estate company of ours!  She’s extremely ambitious.”  Antonio asks why he is going to name her president of the business instead of Antonio or even himself.  JL reiterates that he wants Antonio as Veep and that he knows JL never wants to be visible.  Antonio snickers.  “--That’s only a precaution so that if something goes wrong, you won’t be held responsible.”  JL insists it’s how the investors want it done.  Besides, that way the business is transparent, simple, and clean.

Antonio agrees then, but demands that Raquel be kept out of his way.  She doesn’t know a thing about it and he doesn’t want her interfering with his decisions.  JL chuckles, relieved.  “Heck, put her to work reading documents and signing papers.  Distract her.”  JL is more interested in when Antonio’s going to make the brake with Trijo.  Antonio says he’s hoping to do it the next morning, but he’s been unable to reach the man on the phone so far.  Good thing that the old man, de la Garza is dead, adds JL.  “--Now nobody will be looking over our shoulder, stepping on our toes [pisandonos los talons= lit.  stepping on our heels].”

Jose Luis asks Antonio if he’s found out anything more about Sebastardo, ese.  Antonio needs to deal with the kid.  After all, what if he tells Ric what he knows?  Antonio laughs at that.  “—Impossible.  The only reason he worked with us was to screw over Ricardo.”  “—Yeah, but what if he does say something to him?  What then?”

Ric walks Oriana through the park to calm her down.  He tells her not to worry, that her hubby can’t do a thing to her.   If Homero captures him he’ll go away for years.  Yes, but he might tell all out of revenge then.  And then, what about getting Alina back?  He reminds her he’s got custody of her and they will deal with all that after.  But what about Marilue, she asks.  They have a prenuptial agreement, Ric replies.  She’s got nothing to do with it and knows that as soon as they’ve settled things regarding Oriana’s husband, they’ll be getting a divorce.  She’s been good to the both of them and she loves him.  Yes, but Ric loves only her, he tells her and he kisses her again.

Later that day, Ric has a chat with Fidelia about Seb wanting to make nice finally.  The kids’ changed, he tells her.  She’s still afraid of the HIV business though.  He explains (PSA #xxxx) how it won’t be dangerous to anyone not having sex with him or getting his blood on them.  She then agrees to give him another chance.  She then tells Ric it’s time to think of divorcing Marilu.  She is so in love with him that it’s breaking the poor girl’s heart having him so close and not being able to live it out in the open.  It’s really become a torture having to rub her nose in his and Oriana’s private lives and the only decent thing to do is to free her from her obligation to them!

Can't wait. Carlos called it correctly, but I was hoping the driver had a vest too. And I was hoping that Homero had expected this to happen and put a fake dvd in his bag so he could trap JL. I guess Homero isn't as cunning as I thought. I'm not sure how he's going to prove JL was behind the killing.

So Ricky couldn't keep his mouth shut about Homero surviving. How much you want to bet Oriana tells everyone else that Homero is alive? She'll probably pick up the phone and call JL and tell him. I hate her now. She ruined the whole plan.

So does Raquel have HIV? I don't have a guess.

Cynderella, I had to look at the calendar to see if it were Tuesday since Oriana and Ric were going at it.

cathyx, I'm with you 100% re Oriana. My thought was, "gosh, Oriana, why don't you just go ahead and call JL?!"

I'm really wondering here if one of the regular writers is missing or this was a deliberate change for Oriana, but I feel that there is a different Oriana now than the Oriana we first met (when she and Alina were trying to get their lives going together).

Oriana has stopped thinking. She no longer seems like the intelligent person I, personally, thought she was at the very beginning of this story.

Wimpy Women get on my last nerve.

Fatima

Fatima, she's acting like Ric now. Whining about everything but not willing to do what it takes to get out of the mess.

Thank you, Jardinera. I look forward to the recap of an exciting but goofy episode plot-wise.

So let me get this straight. Omero was never really serious about Ines going to jail. He was simply trying to scare her into going into witness protection. Now when Ricardo threatens that Ines will go to prison and spill the beans on Francisco Castro and company prematurely, that is before Omero get the goods on them, he backs off the jail option. He calls Ricardo smart for figuring all this out, even while Ines is thinking about going to jail and losing her daughter permanently-- a likelihood that Ricardo only now is sharing. This plot is so nuts and has yielded nothing but writing that seems to be made up as they go along. It is really hard to write suspense and without carefully crafted steps as in AB, you have to fall back on the characters that are not the best in this case.

I am certainly not giving up, not this late in the game, but gosh this has been strange. I do want to see Marilu reveal herself. She looked like a jackal in the previews, referring to HER husband and child. And, there are several other story lines that are pretty interesting.

I'm not bailing out either, but it sounds to me like the writers have very little experience at this type of story. Let's get a bit more real about how the law and guys like Ormero work.

I also think that Marilu will cause problems. We have about 5 weeks to go.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait, Jardinera. :)

I'm so glad Homero is alive, but seriously Ric....why don't you just take out an ad in the Hermosillo Times Dispatch?

There afe 101 episodes and there is no way I'm missing any of these últimas semanas! I've never been in it for the romantic story anyway. Actually I would be fine if Ric dropped dead. Im not too hung up on Oriana anymore either.

Sara - You gave me a good laugh in not caring if Rick dropped dead. I agree and it would be a very interesting turn of events if it happened Then Oriana, who isn't looking so good to us at this point, could get together with my person hero Mariano.

I think it's goings to be a "mi amor" fest with Ric and Oriana pledging eternal love to each other and Alina, but it would be interesting to have an all together different ending.

Cynderella, did you see the preview? It seems your predictions about Marilu Malibu Barbie were right!

Traveling Lady & UA, yes I think a possible lack of planning has made this plot ridiculous. Having Oriana go undercover when she has no experience was just crazy. And then Mike had been at this 4 years and she was going to find info b/c of the promise of sex JL. Really. Now wonder Homero never got Joquain.

Cathyx & Fatima, I am so sad Oriana has become an idiot; this is not the woman we met at the beginning of the tn.

Sara, you are too funny. I don't want Ric to die but he and Oriana are being very stupid about Homero. He had a reason for wanting people to think he's dead.

You're right, Karen. I was being mean. Ric can just fall into a never ending coma.

Sara thanks for another laugh. Are both those cats yours? They look so friendly.

Yes. The new one is Bella. She's a bit aloof. Offspring adopted her, but we ended up with her...and discovered she was pregnant...and then needed a C-section. I will probably be changing my avatar to Chunk (Bella's son) later in the week. I just feel like showing off my cats. ;-)

Arnold (the previous avatar) is a love. A real snuggle kitty and the folks at the vet always comment on how sweet he is.

Sara...your cats are beauties. I grew up with lots of farm cats. They lived in the barn and roamed the acres. My mother would not let me bring them in the house, so I spent many hours outside with them.

Thanks, Susanlynn. My cats would never make it as barn cats. They are pampered, spoiled and lazy to the core.

CathyX, I didn't watch the episode, but thank goodness, I missed it. My luck must be changing.

Karen, really? She turned out to be a nut job? She was good for so long, I thought that I was going to have to admit that I was wrong. Is she a bunny boiler? How did she reveal herself?

cathyx, yes, Oriana is a Ricky clone. The two are getting on my nerves and it is NOT supposed to be this way!!

Karen, so glad you are joining us at the "what happened to Oriana" table! :))

I'm not bailing on this, either. Not after all of this time, but something just doesn't seem right with the writing. I think they put in a pinch hitter who is NOT hitting it out of the ball park.

Cynderella, amiga, please don't forget that I am right there with you re Stepford Marilu!

Fatima

Sara, I'm glad you said Arnold was a cuddling cat b/c I kept thinking how great he'd be to cuddle with. Bella is beautiful too.

Cynderella, it hasn't happened yet. Watch Monday b/c it seems she will be scary. Who knew.

Fatima, I'm pulling up my chair at the table b/c its just disheartening to watch her become so whiny and dumb. It's like the bad writing, undercover nightmare, impacted how the writers wrote her; they forgot she was a smart woman.

Karen, you are ABSOLUTELY right! Oriana started out as I woman/character I really liked. She seemed strong...especially in those first episodes. I was loving every bit of the story and SO glad that we were seeing a strong woman. For the past month, she has done nothing but whine and the past week, she has made some bad decisions.

Frankly, I am also angry (you know what I mean) about this business of "witness protection" versus "going to jail" and the RIDICULOUS business of Ric "marrying" Stepford Marilu. Who in their RIGHT mind would have even gone for such an idea?! Honestly, it fries me.

Fatima

Me, too.

Sara, your cats are darling! Click to see my little Carmen.

Urban-Carmen is gorgeous!!!! Thanks for sharing.

I really hope Oriana finds her brains this week. I hate that this has sort of unraveled here at the end. Well, it hasn't completely unraveled because they did do a good job with the Fabi/Sebass story and I am still interested in the fates of Raquel, Ruben, Fidelia and even Malibu Marilu and JL. I just don't really care about Ori and Ric.

And why the heck aren't we getting more Luis Gatica????? To me the Joaquin storyline has been the worst. No true crime boss would have put up with JL for so long. He was too lenient even before the sudden revelation of the CD.

Good thing this is so short.

I think the problem with this telenovela in this second part, it is not steady paced. Somewhere it is too fast and somewhere it is too slow, no dynmic constantly. And in this second part the writers pushed too to the fore the acting plot of exposure of JL at the expense of other happenings and characters, and some of the characters are starting to lose their sense of reality.

See: brainless Ori, or you said based on previews there will be something odd change at Marilu Malibu.

Thank you, Jardinera. Great recap of a complicated, talky episode. I love the Snoops and Gadget monikers. You somehow capture Homero's intonations exactly. I have to agree, he is not God and the lack of cooperation of those dependent on his services is pretty astonishing. On the other hand, his devotion to them as people is pretty limited and it seems to undermine what little rationality they have in these matters.

Lots to resolve in these remaining 20 or so episodes. Marilu Malibu is sooo excellent as a name for our Barbie doll.

Jardinera654, your weekend recaps NEVER disappoint!!

Thank you so much!!

Fatima

Thanks so much for the recap Jardinera. I read over what you wrote about the undercover stuff and its still unclear. I wish the writers haven't added this plot as it seems to have derailed other stronger aspects of the tn.

UA, Carmen is lovely!

Sara yes the Joquain plot has been weak as well. And why cast Luis Gatica and not really use him? What a waste of a terrific actor.

This is pure speculation on my part, but I think that JL never loved or even liked Oriana. I think that JL was into crime before he met Oriana. He saw her as convenient in terms of being able to use her to look respectable.

We've never really gotten the true back story on JL, but I think he saw an innocent woman he could use when he saw Oriana.

It's his recent rage and anger at her that makes me think this. The guy is smooth and handsome. Oriana was alone in her life. It was a match made in heaven for JL.

I also think that JL is a pathological liar and manipulator. I don't know if this makes him a sociopath, but there is definitely some pathology there.

Fatima

Karen: what part isn't exactly clear? I'll try to re-explain it.

Gosh, I sound kind of goofy as I know we have discussed JL's pathology before. My point is that I don't think he ever loved or liked Oriana, but was able to cover it all up.

Fatima

Thank you, Jardinera. Keeping the story straight is becoming increasingly difficult, you did a very good job explaining what happened in this episode. I'm really not looking forward to my next recap.

I could take or leave both Oriana and Ricardo, aside from the very beginning of their relationship, I never liked them too much, anyway.

Now I want to see what Marilu does, since she's obviously going to the dark side.
Also, I wonder who will be Fabi's galan when all is said and done.

Many thanks, Jardinera. These episodes are getting more and more convoluted and I really need the recaps. Thanks for all the vocabulary, too!

Fatima, you make an interesting point about JL always being evil. I do believe in his love for his family, though. It could be that he only loves Alina and Oriana is just part of the package, but mob guys can feel love, too. Actually, many times their loyalty for their family is what drives them to commit many more crimes than the "job" requires.

I just don't get witness protection in this TN. Witness protection means the person is "protected",moved to some place safe, new name, new ID, so no one can find them. Oriana is not safe with nutso JL. Just how is she protected????? And I agree, she is stupid, whiny, I can't do this anymore, sob, sob, after Ric has already married Marilu, to protect her child.

"When good novelas go bad"

So smart Homero, not protecting the CD, come on!!!!! Oriana opening her big mouth!!!!!
This TN is becoming Mejia. That is worse than estupida.

Adriana Noel, I think JL possibly only loves Alina, but he sure has a strange way of showing it. I think his concept of "love" is somewhat warped.

Variopinta, ITA re "witness protection". I've never understood WP to be what Homero claimed it to be. Throwing Oriana to the wolf/ves is not WP to me.

I think WP is earned only after Oriana gives them valuable information. She gives evidence and then they ferret her away, or in this case, they allow her to remain as Ines Valdivia and don't bother putting her away.

JL, IMHO, does love Oriana despite what he tells his lover, Raquel. I think it's his bruised male ego talking there at those times. He's just now obsessed. However, think about it from his viewpoint, he never stopped loving him and had to send her out of the country to protect her from the Columbin authorities. Afterwards he finds a Ricardo playing/usurping his role as hubby and daddy. Not pleasant from his end of it.

Variopinta, in yhe US, you enter witnessness protection after you have provide information to convict someone.....I think Homer Run had things set up for Orines to legally have the name Ines durring the undercover work to find out the dirt on Joe Louis(JL).

Good recap Jardinera... Orines is my favorite character, but her BIG mouth is starting to "gripe my grippers"...and El Stupido - Pretty "dumb" Ricky, takes one look at her, and falls all to pieces....
(I admit, she was looking very well in the purpple looking short tight mini dress)...he needs to get a grip on his lust....

Jardinera - I missed the episode and I do believe even if I had seen it I wouldn't have understood it on my own. Thanks so much for making sense of the latest plotting.

I hope Homero at least took a moment to mourn his driver. Too bad he didn't have a bullet-proof vest for him.

My favorites now are Mariano and Fabi. Ori and Ricky are a done deal and need to drop the jealousy cause there's zero reason for it. Ori can't stand JL and Ricky has never been into Marilu. Plus, Ricky made a tremendous sacrifice marrying Marilu so he could adopt Alina for her, so Ori sounds selfish whining about Marilu.

I'm in the JL loves Ori camp. He's a narcissitic, criminal madman and she's moved on with Ricky. Yet, considering, JL has treated her with some restraint, cause he still wants Ori to want him.

Thank you for the explanations re the WP for Oriana. Honestly, it has been very hard to figure out just actually what Homero was offering Oriana. Yes, Ok, so some of us are slow. :))

I'm also in the JL truly loves Oriana camp. However, I think his love is perverted and toxic-he views love as giving his wife and daughter things and said that's the reason why he got into the contraband business to give Lina and Oriana a lifestyle he thinks befits them as his wife and child. His love isn't self-sacrificing like Ric's is. Ric is ride-or-die supportive of Oriana; he's always comforting her and telling her their love can overcome anything and he's willing to do whatever possible to help her; and even when he's wrong, he's teachable and willing to correct his ways. See:Alina becoming his daughter now not on paper, but his actions.

JL couldn't even apologize from the heart for kicking Tito and lying about him being dead. He thought if he bought Lina another dog it would fix the problem. He always blames other people for his faults and failings. "I was forced to be a contrabandista; Just one more job and I'm out the business; Oriana has to pay because she rejected my nutbar self." He's never taken responsibility for the situation he and his family is in.

So Ori has two men who love her, but only one man's love is healthy and that's Ricardo.

JL is a narcissist and that goes with Control Freak. Materialism isn't a necessary component but it's a natural one for male narcissists because they are expected to be providers. In a world where we no longer hunt mammoth and no intelligent person wants war, making serious dinero is probably the first social thing men prioritize as expressions of masculine superiority.

He has the personality components of a Family Annihilator. In the US he would likely be a textbook example as the profile is typically that of a white male who is accustomed to being a good provider, but something happens to disrupt that. If there were no Ricardo he would still have the potential, but his crazy wouldn't show as much.

I will hold to my own view that JL's "love" is sick and, therefore, not real love. I, personally, do not want or need a love that controls, hides, and lies. I will agree that he has his own type of love for Oriana, but sick love, in my view is not love.

Urban, I like the point you have made above.

Hmmm. I can see the option of familiicide, but I don't know if a contributory factor would be he weakened self-estime with the loss of his wife's and daughter's respect. Could we call it cowardice? He's a big man and proud, but then brought to his knees at the same time because of his wife's rejection for a younger, self-made and socially respectable, wealthy man--something he'd aspired to when getting involved with the criminal element, trying to get a foot up in the social strata. Hard to admit the error of one's ways, but he did acknowledge it many times to her and to Dr. V.

Gracias, Jardinera. What a hot mess of a show! Thanks for the recap. In addition to deservedly mocking the mass confusion, it also confirmed that it's the show that's confused and not me!

I tend to aggree with UA comments that JL is a "Family Annihilator"... You can pick up the newpaper on any given day to see an article where the entire family is killed, and the husband/daddy then kills himself.

It's as if the thinking is, if I can't have you, then no one will have you or the kids....And it is typically the "white" male head of household that commits the foul acts. This type male usually build their world around the wife and kids..
(As an African American male myself, Unfortunatly, or fortunatly, African American males tend to not have the wife and kids as their main reason for living)...[too deep to get into, for this blog space]

So Jose Luis, acts like Joe Louis to protect his woman...

BTW, As a young man, I was told by my Afri. Amer. daddy that, "when I woman has made up her mind that she no longer wants you, the best thing you can do is move on." "No amount of money, or begging her to stay will make a difference."

I appreciate your perspective, Lee Fox.
