Mentir Para Vivir #67 Fri 1/10/14 The Pain In The Butt Gets A Pain In The Gut
Capítulo 67
Fabiola and Piero will be waiting the next twenty-four hours for the news from her ultrasound which will finally let them know if Sebastian's baby--at first glance anyway, will be physically sound. Piero—like Viewerville—can't understand why other tests weren’t done. (Unfortunately, Piero, there are some things medical science just cannot do, and determining Demon Seedism is one of them!)
At Snoop Mansion, Grandpa Snoops, aka, Homero, is anxious to make contact with Mike Rodriguez to see if he's truly gone over to The Dark Side or not. Leo suggests doing things the simple way by checking with the insurance company for Mike's phone number if he reported the accident like he should have. Snoops chalks another one up for genius genes in the de la Garza family tree.
Meanwhile, Ricardo and Padre Past-Tense, aka Mariano, are speaking to the same group of growers that Antonio had bought and brought to Arte Folklor. He warns them that although the money they're making now is more than what Aresti Breton can pay, it won't last forever, because it's way more than AF can afford in the long run; that AF will eventually close down and then the farmers will be left with absolutely nothing in the end. Just then, the middleman that Antonio hired drives up and pokes his nose in. He tells the crowd that they've got no business selling Aresti anything. Their deal is with AF Company.
Ric asks what cut he gets for taking the group to AF. Zee Man denies he's getting paid a cut of anything. “--I'm only looking out for my people!” “--Oh? Don't tell me you're doing that for free?“ Nope. He gets his “cuota” [fee/share/portion] from each one of them as “protection” money, he explains to Ric, against their being “robbed”. “--And what percentage is that?” One of the workers objects to Zefarino saying he needs to pay “protection money” and the workers start grumbling. Mariano tells them to report this to the authorities if they feel they've been pressured into it, and reminds them that Aresti has been around assuring them of steady work for decades. Ric puts doubt into the minds that AF could be gone at any moment and they'd be left holding the bag. One old lady agrees to stick with Aresti then and the others follow. As Ric and Mariano get back into the car to go Ric asks him if he thinks they were convinced. “--At least we spoke the truth.”
Back at Snoop Mansion, Leo gets Mike's cell number from the insurance company and calls it supposedly looking for Francisco Castro regarding the accident. Snoops gets on the phone and in no uncertain terms tells Mike he's read his files and knows he's one of theirs, but doesn't know if he's still on their side or not. When Mike plays dumb, Homero tells him in no uncertain terms he'd better call him back with a time and a place to meet or else.
That night, Mariano says his good-byes to Paloma. He admits to Paloma that he's found he really wants a wife and a family now.
Ric takes a call from Oriana explaining that she thinks Alina really needs to move back in with her and Paloma. She told JL that she was living there with her and if he finds out she's really living with him and Marilu, he'll go ballistic again. She can't gain his confidence otherwise, she says. He gets upset and races over to the manse to discuss it face to face. Marilu is left out of the picture again and feeling like the 19th wheel on an eighteen-wheeler.
At the same time, over at Lucina's B&B, she and Manolo discuss how he, i.e., the authorities now believe it was Berto who killed Ric's daddy, Gabe. Same gun, same bullets in him as killed Gabe. Then they found that guy, Eliseo, in a trash heap somewhere, the same one that killed Berto. Great for Oriana that she's free of that accusation now, but the two of them are still up the creek without a paddle for the falsified passport, she moans. Don't worry, he says, it's in Com. de la Garza's hands and he can work a few miracles for them probably. He asks what's new with her partner, Raquel and her relationship with Fakecisco. Lu sighs heavily and complains that the gal is so enticed by the idea of him buying her her own apartment that she can't think straight. He warns Lu Raqi needs to get her head straight or she could be fish food herself. Lu says she's a hopeless case.
Mariano says his good-byes to Oriana next while she is waiting for Ric. Hugs and tears.
Mike, following Jose Luis's orders to look for Sebastian and to put him out of [everyone else's] misery, arrives outside Seb's apartment building. He asks one of the tenants if the jerk-wad lives there. She says he lives on the second floor and gives him grief about how Brat Boy is about to get his ass thrown out because of all the wild, noisy parties he's always throwing. Mike checks his gun and Viewerville gets ready for some long awaited cosmic justicia.
Ric arrives and tells Oriana that the adoption proceedings have already started; the father has first rights to object to the mother's giving his child up for adoption and keeping it provided living conditions are optimal. So, once JL learns he's the one trying to adopt Alina, he'll be furious anyway! Oriana insists she can explain it was because Lina is too frightened to live with him. Ricardo doubts the guy would ever fall for anything so silly. She begs him to allow her to “fight her own fight” against Jose Luis. Since she knows him best she would be able to give explanations, invent and/or promise him things that Ric simply couldn't. Ric interrupts her saying that they can figure what she might be going to promise him, all right! Oriana assures him that she'll promise him whatever it might take to be free of him once and for all. --And, if he can't deal, then forget her and forget adopting Alina. She'll find another way.
El Sebastardo comes out of the building. Mike watches as Seb is immediately accosted by Maria's drunken daddy, El Maligno de Benigno. Maligno tells him he's his grand-pappy. Seb sneers back at him that he's an Aresti Sanchez Breton and his daughter was only one of the servants. Maligno corrects him and admits he is his abuelo. Seb calls him a dog and threatens to kick his drunken butt if he doesn't get out of his face. Maligno tells Seb he's the dog here since he's the one here who hasn't got a clue who his daddy was. Seb keeps up the insults but then Maligno tells him that the Sanchez Breton family has been the ruin of him and that somebody's going to finally pay for that. Might as well be Seb, apparently.
Maligno pulls a knife on snotty Mr. Too Beeg For Hees Breeches and stabs him in the gut. However, once isn't good enough for Benigno, the bloodthirsty butcher, and he jabs at Sebastardo once more… for old time’s sake. Mike is sickened by the sight of an aberrant abuelo smiting his kin and knocks the knife out of the kin-ocidal maniac's hand. Seb falls to the ground, mortally wounded.
At Palacio Paloma, Oriana is now giving Marilu instructions to bring all Alina's things back with her when she drops her off this weekend. Paloma is saddened by the news of this final break up with Ricardo but Oriana explains she can't move freely otherwise. Paloma then asks if she's going to sleep with JL. She says she very well may if there's no other choice to reach her goal. She simply can't deal with being pulled both ways any longer.
Back at the Blue Bungalow things look bleaker and blacker than ever for Ric. “--She pretty much told me to take a flying leap! She told me to forget the adoption, even!” Piero tells him not to throw a fit. He's just upset right now. “--Of course I'm upset. I'm furious! What was the purpose of this circus with the wedding and all the rest of it!?? I feel hopeless, desperate!!” “--Man, think! The woman is doing what she needs to free herself and her kid and all you can think of is if she's going to sleep with another man! Hell, what's a tumble in bed? I'm ready to marry a woman whose already expecting another man's child! Sheesh!” Ric says it's not about some roll in the hay; it's about the guy possibly stealing her back from him. Well, says Piero, if he gets her back then it means she never really loved you to begin with. Ric looks like he's just been hit in the face with a bucket of ice water and gobsmacked. “--So, are you still going through with the adoption?” “--Hell yeah!” That's a10:4, good buddy-- and, as Viewerville notes, one hell of a good way of gettin' back at the sum bitch. Marilu runs in with the news about having to move Lina back in at Paloma's and how Fidelia's totally bummed about it.
Just then Ric gets the obligatory call from Manolo's teniente cousin, Carmelo Hernandez, aka Inspector Gadget, telling him that Seb just got brutally knifed and that some Good Samaritan called it in. His kid brother is in the hospital, barely alive (and, unfortunately, still taking up valuable oxygen). At least, they do have the responsible party behind bars, says Gadget. Thanks. Click. Ric tells the others and the three of them race up the stairs and head for La Cruz Roja...er...all but Marilu who I think is doing some sort of galloping scissor-kick in those 6” platforms Costuming strapped her into. Whatever.....once they arrive at the hospital, Ric learns Brat Mouth is in surgery, but the nurse has no more information for him.
Meanwhile, Raqi and JL are out having dinner. She mentions the apartment she wants comes tastefully furnished, so one less expense for him. He tells her not to think of it as a simple gift. Nothing is free in life and this won't be. She smiles smugly and downs her vino. JL gets a call from Mike at that point and leaves to answer it. Mike informs him that “it” wasn't necessary because some other guy got there ahead of them and knifed the kid in the gut a a few times. “--Well, is he dead or not???” Mike says he doesn't know. Well why didn't he make sure, JL fairly screams into his phone at him. “--What was I supposed to do, Sir? Shoot him in front of a street full of witnesses?” “--Then get to the hospital and find out, idiot!” “--Why, sir? To make everyone know it was me and give myself away?” “--I'm giving you an order!” “--Yeah, an order that jeopardizes the both of us!” “--Are you questioning me??” “Sir, I think you're a bit agitated. If he does die, we'll see it in the newspapers tomorrow. Good night!” Click! Mike hangs up abruptly and throws his cell down on the cement sidewalk, smashing it to bits. He is not a happy camper. JL curses Mike and wonders what's up with this guy.
Back at the hospital, the doc on call shows up and gives Ric the rundown. Seb was stabbed numerous times and one of them sliced Seb's intestine. It's a dangerous and extremely serious wound. (We wouldn't have been happy otherwise, now would we?) They'll do what they can (don't strain yourselves), but the kid is young and healthy (more's the pity) and should be all right. The doc leaves and Ric starts blaming himself for being such a rotten brother all these years. If he'd just treated Seb better...-- Piero stops him short. “--Don't go blaming yourself for this! Sebastian's always been a rebellious, loud-mouth lazy good-for-nothing. [vago]
Fidelia complains to Marilu about feeling anxious about not having any more news regarding Seb. She's certain the kid's mixed up in something and caused this. She suddenly changes the subject to Alina having to move back in with Paloma and how hurt she is having to give the girl up like that.
Back at the hospital Ric learns that Seb's in recovery but needs O+ blood.
At Fortress Falcon, meanwhile, Mike is back and so is JL. JL gives Mike grief over acting so arrogantly and threatens him if he ever does it again. Mike respectfully explains that JL was asking him to do something extremely reckless that would have put them at risk. What would he have told them? What could he have said? And, what if he'd actually run into Ricardo Sanchez Breton? JL argues that he should have made up something, anything! “--You're here to follow my orders!” No, sir, answers Mike. He's there to do what's proper—proper for the company and what he wanted put it at risk. JL gets physical then, but Mike puts a quick stop to that. “--Don't, sir. I wouldn't want you to end up with your nose broken!” “--Perhaps the one who gets a bloody nose will be you!” He starts to hit him but Mike grabs his arm and nearly breaks it. He warns JL that he's tops at martial arts and boxing. JL retreats to the stairs and orders him back on the plane to Santo Domingo, but Mike suggests he call Joquin first. “--He pays my salary. Not you.” JL ignores him and walks away.
Later, Ric and Piero arrive at the police station to get the rest of the facts from Gadget. Gadget tells them it was Benigno and that he's heard Benigno's side of the story blaming Ric for everything from soup to nuts, but that he's also read what was in the papers. Benigno says he did it because Ric wouldn't pay him his monthly stipend anymore. Ric has another verbal run-in with his conscience at that point, but Piero puts a halt to that right away. “--Heck, Maria's dead! You have no obligation to continue supporting that drunk!” Gadget tells them right now the charges are attempted murder, but if Seb dies, it's the whole nine yards. “--It's a good thing somebody stepped in and knocked the knife out of the man's hand or your brother would have died right there.” Ric asks who it was. Gadget says he couldn't tell him since the witnesses say they didn't get a good look and the man just slipped away without a word.
JL shoots off an angry email to Joquin telling him he's tired of the guy's insolence and refusal to follow his orders, in particular, how he refused to “liquidate” a guy who'd opened his big mouth about the type of business they were in who shouldn't have, and that he wants him sent back to Santo Domingo immediately. “--He's a threat to our business. I don't know where you got the guy, but I don't trust him at all!”
Next day, Fidelia says good-bye to Lina and after the little girl's left, she tries convincing Ric that maybe he'd be better off married to Marilu for real and raising his own kids. He politely avoids answering and leaves.
Piero and Fabi get the good news that her baby seems to be healthy.
At Fortress Falcon, Mike hands JL the morning paper and says Seb is reported to be in serious condition. “--Then, finish the job I gave you!” Mike hisses to himself and calls a cab. First stop: Snoop Mansion.
As Mike adjusts his suit and tie, Viewerville sucks in its breath at the breathtaking profile snapshot of the next Uni superstar and heart throb. He walks toward the entrance and sees Leo exit with his dog. “--Nice lookin' dog!” Leo turns around, guardedly. “--Yes, and rather dangerous.” Mike puts his hand out and gestures in guard-dog sign. Neron doesn't make a move, simply stands at attention. “--He's been trained, right?” “--No, but when necessary, he knows how to defend the leader of the pack—and that's me.” “--All right. I've trained many a dog, but for protection. Well, when you're ready let me know and I'll demonstrate.” (Viewerville wonders if there is anything this handsome, macho man doesn't know or can't do!!) “--Thanks but I'm not interested in an aggressive dog. What do you want?” Mike asks if this is Com. De la Garza's place and says if so, tell him Mike Rodriguez came to speak with him. Leo leaves Neron to “guard” him and goes inside. Mike smiles at Big Nero and ends up getting him to nuzzle.
Over at the B&B, Ruben is telling Lu and Cesar how Madhilde ripped up the divorce notice. They try persuading him to continue and not back down over this. He's worried about a scandal. (I'd say the operative/appropriate term would more likely be “another scandal”, though nothing much could beat her behavior at Ric and Marilu's so called wedding the other day!) Raqi shows up with the newspaper and the gossip about Seb and Ric's true relationship, etc. Cesar pipes up about the DNA business. Raqi looks over with a seductive smile and winks at him. Mr. Priestly shifts in his seat as she undresses him with her eyes for the umpteenth time.
Back at Snoops Mansion, Homero lets Mike know that he's aware of who he is, but that he wants assurance that he's still one of the good guys. Mike says he's got no way of doing that. Homero says he knows that he's with Joquin after saving him from some murder attempt. Mike says that was a ruse used to gain his confidence. Home says he knows Mike's been with Joquin for five years, but hasn't come up with anything. Mike corrects him, saying he's got plenty on the guy. He just doesn't have anything conclusive. So why's he here? To keep an eye on Fakecisco, aka JL Falcon, he says, who's gone over the deep end; and it's all the fault of his wife. Leo calls him on that and he corrects himself, “the reason being [por] his wife.”
“--Ok. In a couple of weeks your going to be his wife's shadow.” “--What? I work for her husband.” “--Yes and in two weeks she'll be living with him. She's a computer expert and you're going to be in charge of her security and her life.” Mike asks how he can be so sure he won't betray him. Because, he answers, I have the nose of a dog. Just then Mike takes a call from Joquin who's just gotten into town and wants to see him immediately. He tells Snoops who warns him that if he does betray him, he's a dead man walking. He'll follow him to the ends of the earth if it takes that. That's okay. Mike adopted Wallenda as his middle name a while ago.
Ric returns to the hospital and waits in the reception area. Seems Seb is having seizures. Reasonable, says the attending surgeon, since the kid has a family history of epilepsy.
Back at Snoop Mansion, Leo gets on his abuelo's case for supposedly playing God by risking others' lives and for being extremely insensitive where it concerns 2nes. “--He who doesn't risk anything doesn't win. Besides, I trust this young man a great deal. Now, I've got all the odds calculated out. So, if you're so worried, why not go discuss painting with your godfather, and bring over some of your drawings too. He's a painter also. That way you'll be able to keep an eye on Mike.”
Everybody shows up at the hospital to give blood. Mariano made a u-turn on the way home once he read the news in the papers, he tells Ric. Ric goes on another guilt trip. Mariano tells him the obvious: it's not his fault the kid inherited a big mouth and a pea-sized brain.
Dr. Vanese arrives at the hospital with his recommendations for Ric. Seb will be out of danger in a few days, but the epilepsy that's now manifested itself is very serious. It can be controlled, he advises, but if the patient doesn't maintain a strict regimen with his diet and medicine it can mean a premature death. Knowing Sebastardo, he doubts the kid will take things seriously. Ric can guess what the prognosis may very well be in that case. (Let's not all send flowers just yet.) He's got to be in a familial environment where he can be looked after instead of being left on his own. Good luck with that says Ric. It will turn my aunt's life back into a living Hell. Then the only other choice is to have him admitted, says Dr. V.
Alina finally returns to Paloma's. She wants to stay for good. Unfortunately, says Oriana, she's only going to be there for a while, just til she has to go back on another “business trip.” She hugs her daughter and the tears begin to fall as she thinks about what awaits her.

Although I didn't see this coming with Benigno being the one who stabbed him.
I sure hope Mike is clean cause I'm loving him right now. His scenes with JL and with Neron were my favorites.
And thanks Paquita and Cynderella for your wonderful recaps.
I have to echo those who are not pleased w/Homer. He's so focused on settling his big score that I have to doubt his "concern/desire" to help Oriana. Mike is a trained professional and still may not make it out of this job alive how much more so with clueless Oriana? I think jail is a better option b/c even she cannot reason w/JL. Her current plans (bring Lina back to the house and have her deal w/her abusive father*) and then going undercover seem to be some of the worst plans I've seen in a long time. *It's not just that he kicked Tito, JL also shook Alina like a rag doll soon after the kicking and he routinely tries to manhandle Oriana.
It was an interesting twist to have two of the most wretched characters Benigno and Seb fates now truly tied to one another. Ben needs to be put under a jail; what was harming Seb going to get him? Not money. And as the doc said, if Seb survives the stabbing, unless he gets a personality transplant, he won't do the things necessary for him to survive.
Dammit! What happened? Who got stabbed?
Cynderella
OK, so it sounds like Sebastian got stabbed? Univideos will have it up, hopfully.
Cynderella
Mike passed the good guy test when Leo's attack dog melted in his hands. I agree about Oriana, Ric must be rethinking things seriously! However, Inesiana is an abused wife, having been trained for years to be expected to clean up after JL. This idea of Homero is the worst, using a victim instead of a trained infiltrator.
Cynderella
Also, the univision ccs are the worst. They started out good last summer, they were in both english and spanish but then it changed and now it's only english and only every other sentence.
I'm glad you caught that sly smile and wink that Raq gave Cesar, because I laughed out loud when she did it.
I was unsure of Mike, but if Neron is ok with him, that I trust him. I still wonder if he would have really shot Sebas, if he couldn't even let Benigno finish the job. In any case, I think having him around to protect Ori is a good thing. I feel better about the plan for her to spy on JL with Mike around to watch her back.
I enjoyed Piero telling Ricky to get a grip about Ori sleeping with JL. It's the least of her/their worries. I not sure why Rick feels like Ori is breaking things off with him, when she already did it when she decided to go along with this plan to return to JL. Like she says, she can't afford to be pulled in two different directions (really, three when you consider Alina).
It seems that her plan is to ease JL into the adoption idea. It really doesn't matter when she breaks the news to him. He'll go ballistic. It won’t be pretty.
Doesn't Mike have kind of a James Bond thing going on? With that square jawline, blue eyes, and amazing body he's got a great future at Televisa.
This is an interesting thing in view of how the actor playing Joaquin was a minor James Bond villain.
I am set for another very busy spell at work and the 7pm time slot is right in the middle of my dinnertime and evening activities, but for now I am still hanging in there.
I am so with you on wishing worthless Sebass would just die, already.
Also ITA with all who think Mike is both a good guy and a good looking guy. What.A.Hottie. *fans self* I can only hope we see a LOT more of him in the future and with fewer clothes.
Raquel would love to trap JL with a pregnancy. Condoms are not effective at birth control and lots of women get pg while using them, so it could still happen very easily and realistically. With all the unusual chatter about using condoms in this TN, as well as all the people who have slept with each other, I am still thinking that lovely Raquel is going to turn out spreading around some kind of lovely STD. As long as JL is still using a condom with her, he isn’t likely to catch her disease (depending on what disease it turns out to be, I suppose). So, when he inevitably (to my thinking anyhow) sleeps with O, she will or won’t get infected, depending on if he continues to protect himself from Raquel.
If the disease turns out to be AIDS, you would think they would have tested Sebass for that in the ER and the results would be ready in a few days. If it’s some other disease, it may take them longer before we find out what it is and who has it.
Oriana is annoying me with her flip flopping and breaking up with Rick constantly. I understand it, but it’s annoying.
Marilu better end up in love and happy at the end of this thing or I will be annoyed about that, too. Really annoyed. She is being taken advantage of by both Ricky and O.
The adoption issue seems to have morphed from something that didn’t make sense – who gets temporary custody of Alina if O goes to prison, which should just be whomever the single mom designates or signs her over to – to a legitimate attempt to have JL declared unfit and therefore losing his legal rights as her bio-dad. Although I still don’t see how he can claim bio-dad rights if he is using a false ID and avoiding authorities, at least actually having Alina legally adopted by others kind of makes sense with that as the goal.
I was sorry to see Eliseo go. He cracked me up.
Carolina ITA that Oriana is being wishy-washy and though I understand she's stressed, the latest break-up w/Ric and forget the fake wedding was not good. She knows Ric is immature but he and Marilu did get married to help her. I hope she gets this weeping out of her system soon.
Is it weird that I kind of feel sorry for Sebas? He got stabbed by his grandfather, who basically pimped him out for 18 years and stabbed his nieto because he can no longer pimp him out. I'd have less sympathy for him if Mike had actually shot him the kneecap or some such. Under the jail for Abuelo Maligno.
I get Oriana trying to get free of JL once and for all; but I'm with Ricky on this one. Why does she have to keep on playing with his emotions and break up with him so much? Half the time dude doesn't know whether he's coming or going. And no to him going with Marilu--she should get anyone's sloppy seconds. Maybe she goes nuts or gets Mike--that's a good consolation prize.
If Mariano now knows he's going to be a layman, does that mean he's going to be in competition with Ricky for Oriana?

UrbanA: I couldn't find the photo link. Found this link and there's no doubt the camera LOVES this guy!! Wow!!

I am eagerly awaiting Carlos's official medical take on Seb's sudden seizures. He will correct me and banish me to Pharma Rep exile if I slept through this part of the pharma training!! (Je-je.) I'll just say that, as I remember it, family history and alcoholism are two giant risk factors here, and, when you add in a serious conk on the noggin that becomes a third. I'd say, given the first two, it isn't a big stretch for me to figure Seb might have suffered a concussion when he collapsed onto that concrete sidewalk and that'd be #3. Alcoholism increases chances of developing seizures by 50% or so when there's a gene lying dormant and just waiting to be switched on. Also, brain trauma like a concussion or a stroke is known to do that also. It sort of changes the electrical and chemical composition and/or ebb and flow of the impulses and the molecules of various chemicals that travel between the cells and through tissues in the brain, if I remember correctly.
He's from Argentina, which has contributed some truly fine stallions to Televisa's acting stable as in... Diego Olivera, Sebastian Rulli, Saul Lizaso, Juan Soler; brain going blank right now.
He'd be a lovely consolation prize for Marilu...
Carolina, you said,
"Condoms are not effective at birth control ..."
and then said,
"As long as JL is still using a condom with her, he isn’t likely to catch her disease..."
Condoms, if use properly, are a pretty effective (certainly not 100%) means of contraception and prevention of STDs (again, not 100%).
Jardinera, as you know this show has been rather lax in following medical principles. Without knowing what María's underlying disease was, I'm going to assume that it was some sort of genetic disorder transmitted to Sebastian so I'm willing to accept that the trauma triggered the seizure he suffered in the hospital.
Don't forget, María died from multiple organ failure (according to the attending physician) following surgery (one presumes successful) for removal of a brain tumor. It would be helpful if we knew her original diagnosis. It's my opinion (based on the few things we know) that her case was mismanaged for a very long time.
Everything you said in your comment is sound. I smiled at the Dr.'s advice for keeping Sebastian healthy... pretty much good advice for all of us. His alternative to put Sebastian in custodial care makes about as much sense to me as taking JL's parental rights away because Alina is afraid of him.
Carlos
If Sebastard got along with his family and cleaned up his act, going back to them would be the right thing. As it is, nobody was able to keep him in line, including Ric.
Alina is far too frightened of JL for him to ever have custody. I'm sure he will completely lose it when he needs to see the shrink.
Carolina, I've been fretting about the STD stuff in my posts for the past few days. Raquel is just a tad too free and loose.
SPOILER ALERT! If you go to the IMDB page for Ignacio Casano (alias Mike the Hunk), there are spoilers and darn, I saw them. DARN. This is the first time I have found and or seen a spoiler. DARN.
Frankly, I can't blame Ric one bit for being all over the place with his emotions. Oriana is driving me batty, too. Yes, I know she has her reasons, but gosh darn it, I wish she would just stop crying and THINK.
Fatima
Anyway, dumb move on my part for reading TOO closely!!. :)

"to put Sebastian in custodial care makes about as much sense to me as taking JL's parental rights away because Alina is afraid of him" --ITSA. Nothing short of legally committing him would do it otherwise, and being a snide, lazy, alley-catting, epileptic jackass isn't against the law the last I heard.
=============
Mike and Marilu getting together by the end of this would definitely be her hitting the jackpot, not to mention a bonus prize for having to put up with all Ric's self-centered B.S. Ric's the boobie prize in all this falderal IMNSHO! --AND, I am still in JL's fanclub, though I know he's been a very bad boy lately.....
========
We have to add Rene Strickler to that list of babe-a-licious Argentines. They do grow 'em fine as white wine in that part of the world, don't they!!
I can understand Ricky feeling like a yo-yo, but I understand Oriana getting cold feet too. Certainly JL would object to someone adopting his daughter and be suspicious of Oriana, and go even more beserk knowing the new daddy would be Ricky. Ricky adopting just proves he and Oriana are still involved. Okay, putting beanie on and just going with it.
But, if Oriana is going to have Alina (and Tito) live with JL again she needs to at least insist that he have treatment for anger management.
I actually don't get what Ricky was so freaked out about. Before she had her accident, they had already decided that she was going to live with JL and do whatever it took to gain his trust (including sleeping with him). They had already "broken up" so that she could be free to do what she needed to do. There was no kissy face in the blue bungalow before she left and he accompanied her home. So what's the problem now?
The only thing I can see that has changed is that the adoption thing isn't as easy as they all initially thought it would be. JL seems to have much more opportunity to halt the whole thing (with a DNA test) than they all thought. That's the real new problem, as far as I can see. Nothing else is new.
Now the plan seems to be to keep JL from getting Alina, which to me seems more like a real threat because he is her dad. But to contest Oriana’s plans for what to do with Alina, he would have to break his cover of being Fakecisco, so, now that I think about it, this new development doesn’t make a lot of sense either. If Oriana doesn’t want JL to have Alina when she goes to prison, all she has to do is tell him she going to tell the police the whole truth and therefore he is going to prison, too, and probably for a lot longer than her. He would either back off his claim on Alina to keep his own freedom or he would be going to prison and then Oriana and he would probably both get to say who takes care of her while they are incarcerated. However, neither of these are situations where Oriana has to adopt out Alina and lose her rights as a mother forever.
Carolina -- love your condensed version of the adoption. Gotta wonder whether the writers really thought the viewers could follow this easily or would get tired of it. I don't count all of us as typical Viewerville. We are dedicated and will keep at it if we can find good elements in the novela! I do find myself much more likely to abandon a novela (e.g., Marido) if I am not following a Caray,Caray blog at the same time.
I had a little vibe on Friday night that Mariano would end up back in the collar and plaid shirts. Novela logic of typing up loose ends might put him there. More importantly, something tells me that his travels and quest for what his compadres have (or are trying to have) will leave him feeling dissatisfied. Just as guess.
I'm getting the sense in a year of continuous TN watching that the winter/spring novelas are better than the summer/fall ones. I watched none of what TM put out in the spring and fall because they bored me, but I'm waiting with baited breath for La Impostora-anything w/ Christian Bach I'm here for- I like the winter/spring Uni line up.
