Mentir Para Vivir #69 Tue 1/14/14 Mirror Mirror On the Wall...Who's the Biggest Nut of All?

Aresti Mansion:  Oriana runs into Paloma’s room whining about making Rhodalina tell another lie.  Rhodalina didn’t want to go to school today and she doesn’t want to move in with Ricky and Marilu.  They are interrupted by internal phone call alerting her that Lucina is there.  Oriana goes back to Paloma and kneels before her.  She wants to know how to make a six year old go to school and stay with the babysitter.  Seriously?  Paloma tells her that she will take care of the situation with Rhodalina.

In the living room, Oriana wants to know if Raquel is still boinking Jose Luis.  Hell yeah, says Lucina.  He gives her a lot of toys and cash.  Oriana says that she feels sorry for Raquel, but secretly hopes that her frenemy will continue to sleep with Jose Luis.  If Raquel is boinking him, Oriana won’t have to service him.  Lucina advises Oriana to ride Jose Luis like a he’s bucking stallion at the town rodeo, if necessary.  Oriana says she’s in love with Ricky.  Lucina points out that Ricky could be boinking his sweet young wife at that very moment.  Men think with their richards.  When a man gets lonely or upset, he will seek solace with other women.  They’re man sluts.  She thinks that women are ri-richard-culous when it comes sexual relationships.  So go get your freak on with Jose Luis…guilt free, says Lucina.  Do what ya gotta do to get yourself out of this mess.

Clinica Psiquiatrica de La Santa Cruz:  The newlyweds arrive for their mental evaluation appointment with the doctor.  The shrink wants to interview Ricky and Marilu separately.  He will interview them and give them written tests.  Ricky says that he understands.  Marilu reaches over and grabs Ricky’s hand.

First up is Marilu (Yes!!!!!).  She says that she wants Rhodalina because she’s a beautiful little girl.  Rhodalina’s father is a big nut and she’s afraid of him.

Ricky tells the shrink that Paloma is his godmother and he has known the Aresti family for years.  He seconds Marilu’s statement that Francisco is violent psycho.  He slips and accidentally states that Inez is a widow.  When the doctor asks him about that, he corrects himself and says that she thought her husband was dead, but he came back to life.  The doctor knows that he boinked Inez.  He freely admits that he used to boink her but says that it’s over between them.  He didn’t marry Marilu for revenge and she was not a rebound.  He had known her for years and they used to date.  He assures the doctor that he and Marilu have a loving relationship.  The doctor notates this.

Offices of Aresti-Breton Staff Meeting:  Piero assures the staff that the company is not going out of business and that President of the company has not been kidnapped.  Yes, he realizes that Ricky has not been seen in the building in several months, but he has been working from home.  Why even last week, Ricky has met with the Cotton Pickin’ Union and they have voted to continue doing business with Aresti Breton.  He then turns on the big screen and gives his captive audience a virtual tour of Senoma industries.  He asks them to keep Aresti Breton the number one business in Senoma.  The staff applauds.

Aresti Mansion:  Still wearing her pajamas, Rhodalina visits Paloma’s room.  Paloma tells her a fairytale about a brave princess that lived in a land far away.  The princess has to go live with a King because her mother had to go away for a little while.  So King Inigo Montoya gets in a huge battle with Atila the Hun because he killed his father.  I think he told him to prepare to die or something.  Ok, there was some sort of big sword fight and a dragon falls off the cliff.  The little princess ran into the forest to look for Shreck and Donkey.  Anyways she fell asleep under a tree for a thousand years until Rumpelstiltskin woke her up.  Then Tinker Bell flew her back to the brick castle, but the Big Bad Wolf can’t blow it down.  Anywho, the king told her that she had to pretend that he and the queen were her parents.  The little princess agrees and later, she is returned to Sleeping Beauty.    Paloma tells Rhodalina that she is the little girl and she must lie so that she can return to the Big Princess.  Rhodalina gets it and agrees to lie about her identity once again.  I got bored.  I might be confusing my fairy tales.

Casa de Falcon:  Jose Luis asks Antonio why Sebastian is still alive?  Antonio is freaked and advises him to relax; it is not necessary to kill anyone.  Jose Luis wants to know why Antonio cares.  Antonio says that he has known “that kid” all of his life.  Antonio did not sign up for murder.  The doorbell rings.  Mike comes in with a clip board and tells Jose Luis that his signature is needed on a subpoena.  He is ordered to see a psychiatrist.  Jose Luis grabs it and signs it and tells Mike to get out.  Antonio wants to know why Jose Luis has to see a shrink.  Sometime later, Jose Luis receives a visit from his wife, who has come to ask him to allow Ricky to adopt their daughter.  She explains that because he is a violent, psychotic smuggler who punts pooches for fun and leaves them for dead in parks, their daughter lives in fear of him.  He pours himself a drink.  Oriana doesn’t want her kid in an orphanage if they should get arrested.  Oriana says that she wants Ricky to adopt Rhodalina because she trusts him.  Jose Luis wants to know if she and Ricky were lovers.  Yes, when she believed that he was dead.  She begs Jose Luis to sign the papers.  Jose Luis wants to know if she plans on boinking him.  She says that she wants to take things slowly; she would prefer to start off as friends.  He blows up and says that he’s her husband, not her friend.  She gets up to leave.  He agrees to her terms, but refuses to allow Ricky to adopt his daughter.  She tells him to think about it or the deal is off.

Trejo Bonfil Textiles:  Leonardo shows his artwork to his godfather, the lush.  He wants to know if he is interested in purchasing it.  Mr. Trejo Bonfil wants the VP to take a look at the artwork.  Alfredo blows up after learning that Antonio went on a business trip.  He wants to fire him and wants to meet with him in the morning.  He’s decided to make Leonardo the VP.

Outdoor Café:  After a stressful day with the headshrinker, Ricky and Marilu visit an outdoor café.  Marilu gazes at him adoringly as Ricky reminds her (in a pleasant voice) that he is no longer sexually attracted to her.  He regrets that she doesn’t make him horny, baby, but the little Ricky likes what he likes.  She’s just happy that he is happy.  I am still waiting on her psychiatric evaluation results.  Ricky tells her that she’s a good woman.  She’s tells Ricky not to worry about her.  He calls the waiter over because “his wife” is hungry.

Casa De La Garzaa:  Homero laughs cracks up after learning that Mr. Trejo Bonfil made Leonardo President of the textile company.  Leonardo is not amused.

Aresti Mansion:  Oriana tells Paloma about her conversation with Jose Luis.  Mariano returns to the mansion and tells Paloma that they have located Inez’s ashes in Potter’s Hill.  Paloma wants Oriana to accompany her visit the grave.  Afraid of being haunted by a crack addict ghost, Oriana thinks that would be so tacky since she stole the girl’s identity.  Paloma says that Inez bought Oriana to her.

Later that night, Rhodalina went to her mother’s room.  Based on the convoluted fairy tale, she has agreed to lie about her identity so that they can have a happy ending.  Oriana gives her a big hug.

Clinica Psiquiatrica de La Santa Cruz:  The next day, Jose Luis is frustrated that the tests are taking so long.  The written portion has taken two hours.  Noting his frustration, the doctor asks him to draw a picture of a family.  Jose Luis scribbles a picture and walks out.  He’s got things to do and people to see.  The doctor notates this.

Another Outdoor Café:  Leonardo is putting the moves on Fabiola, when Piero drives by and sees them on their date.  The baby is fine, so Fabiola has decided to take a year off from school and have the baby.

Aresti Mansion:  Later, Matilde yells at Fabiola about leaving without permission.  Ruben says that Fabs is now a grown woman.  Ruben and Matilde begin to fight.  He calls her a crazy birdbrain and says that he will still divorce her.  Paloma comes in and applauds.  She commends Ruben for growing a set of balls and says that she will pay for their divorce.

Sometime after that, Piero calls and tells Fabs that he saw her with Leonardo.  He admits that he’s jealous and does not like to lose.  She reminds him that she wanted to get to know them both before making a decision.  He says that she wants to spend more time with her and asks her out for dinner.  She agrees to go out with him the next night.

Trejo Bonfil Textiles:  Drunk Mr. Trejo Bonfil tells Jose Luis that he wants to replace Antonio with Leonardo.  He’s pissed because Antonio went on a business trip without informing him of his whereabouts.  Jose Luis threatens to remove funding from the company if Antonio is replaced with Homero’s grandson.  Alfredo pours himself a drink and says that he wishes that they could get along.  By the time he looks up, Jose Luis is gone.

Once Jose Luis is settled in his car, Cerefino calls and tells Jose Luis that the Cotton Pickin’ Union has decided to go with Ricky after all.  Jose Luis tells him to ensure that the union doesn’t go with Ricky by any means necessary.

Aresti Casa:  Paloma and Ricky are having lunch on the terrace.  Paloma tells Ricky that she is travelling to Potter’s Hill (San Carlos Cemetery) to visit her granddaughter’s grave.  Ricky will go with her.  Oriana comes to the table and whines some more; she’s got to go visit the judge.  Ricky tells her that he and Marilu had their psych evals.  Hopefully, Jose Luis will be determined a nut and put away, he says.  Oriana says that she still has to work for Homero...no matter what.  The nurse tells Oriana that it’s time for her therapy sessions.  Oriana has to go see the judge afterwards.

Clinica Psiquiatrica de La Santa Cruz:  Based on his evaluation, the doctor determined that Jose Luis is bipolar.  He can be treated with therapy sessions and an elephant tranquilizer gun some drugs.

Tribunal Office:  Oriana tells the judge that at first she wanted to give her daughter up for adoption because of her health.  Now that she’s better, she says that she wants to give her daughter up because her husband is a psychotic pooch punter.  Her daughter is very afraid of him and she is certain that he won’t allow Rhodalina to keep her dog.  The judge says that it’s his job to make sure the child is placed in a safe home.  She agrees and says that Francisco Castro is not safe.  She almost calls him Jose Luis, but stop in time.  She tells the judge that Francisco is her common law husband.  He is surprised to learn that she is acquainted/related to Paloma and Fedelia.  He asks if Fedelia ever married.  Hmmmm.  When she exits his office, Ricky is waiting for her.  She is surprised to see him.  He asks her to go with him.  She is worried that they will be followed; he assures her that they will not be followed.  He sends Oriana’s stunt double into the judge’s office while they leave.

Blue Berry Hill:  Oriana is with Ricky, he assures her that they have not been followed.  Celio asks if they would like something to drink.  Ricky wants his kisses, so he dismisses his butler with a quickness.  Homero wants her to get a job at Trejo Bonfill and steal some files.  Oriana tells Ricky that she’s very afraid and then makes out with him.  She doesn’t want to get busy because they are both married.  She asks how Marilu would feel.  Ricky says that Marilu accepts that he is not attracted to her and she is happy for them.  Anyways, Jose Luis is dead, so she’s a widow.  Ricky kisses her hands and tells her that he will love her no matter what happens.  Even if she has to sleep with Jose Luis, he will still love her.  Please come back to him and he will happily take the sloppy seconds.  They make out again.  Ricky wants to get busy one last time.  They go into his bedroom and their horrible theme song begins.  Yeah, they do it.  Am I happy about it?  No!
P.S.  I think CathyX is right!  There is a conspiracy against me!  Why am I the only one who gets the love scenes?

David Zepeda and Mayrin have perfect skin. I hate them. I loves me some freaky Ricky though. He is always trying to get some.

Hopefully, now I will get some answers about Marilu. While she is making goo goo eyes at him, this man tells her that he is totally not interested in her. He's got the hots for another chick and she says...good for your Ricky. I am a Stepford Wife and will do whatever you say. I just want you to be happy. Yeah, right.

OK, maybe I was wrong about her, I will admit it. I just don't understand that kind of devotion.

I don't understand how the doctor can determine that Jose Luis is bipolar just because he didn't want to stay for a 8 hour test. Wouldn't that mean that he has ADD?

I like Piero. I hope that she chooses him. He is willing to marry her where as the others just want to play with her.

:D :D Jajaja, Cyn, the title rhymes very well, BIG LIKE. T guess I will troll this today all hours of the day. Later I will read your recap, but I am so busy now, but I had to write it in advance. :)

Cyndy, you are a nut and I love it! I was so dead at the Paloma fairytale portion. And the Dr. notation for some reason made me giggle.

I like Piero too, because it's obvious he no longer pities Fabs, but is interested in her, but something about him and Fabs is just off to me. Maybe it's the making up for Maria thing that bothers me.

I think Marilu does mean well, but I think she is going to crack one day.

Thanks, Cynderella, your recaps always crack me up, you have a way of mocking the stupidity, while making it look like you're serious about it.
"men thinking with their richards" lol
That fairytale was idiotic, how did Alina get anything from it?

So JL is bipolar - let us all get ready for the twisted ways this very real condition will be distorted to serve the plot.

J desde NYC, ITA that Marilu WILL crack. And when that happens, maybe she will be diagnosed with some medical condition, too.
They're all crazy in this tn, JL having an actual confirmed desease doesn't make him better then the rest? :))) Meaning, what's their excuse?

Elephant tranquilizer gun--perfect.

Thanks for the recap, Cyn!

Cynderella,

You made my day. The title alone is worth the trip, full of many other good lines and takes on this one.

I am not sure what happened to take this pretty tightly written novela off track. I can't wait for Oriana to begin her spy work and get the plot on the road. If they had just made the reason for the adoption the likelihood that they might both (Oriana and JL) go to jail from the start, we would have saved a lot of goofy twists and turns.

Oh, well. I do love Lucina and Ruben had some great moments. The point at which Paloma comes in the room and offers to pay for the divorce was fine.

Good stuff.

Nothing new to say except to cheer Paloma for offering to pay for Ruben's divorce. That has to be triply insulting to MADhilde.

Gracias, Cynderella! Your fairy tale was way better than the one Paloma told! I also loved "pooch punter" and "richard." There are a LOT of richards in this show, including ones without a richard to call their own! I'm so sorry you always end up with the slurping scenes. I don't know how that happens.

I disagree with the diagnosis of bipolar disorder. My own armchair diagnosis is a personality disorder. I'm leaning towards narcissistic or maybe antisocial. Bipolar disorder (sometimes called manic depression) is treatable, as the doctor says, I just don't think that's what JL has. His mood swings are tied too closely to whether people are doing what he wants them to do or not for me to think a diagnosis of bipolar disorder is accurate. I suppose he could be in the middle of a mixed episode where the mania is manifested as irritability, but a doctor would either need to have observed him for a while, or JL would have needed to be forthcoming about previous episodes. Instead, he blows his stack because, damnit, why won't people recognize that they should just give him what he wants! If he has untreated bipolar disorder, his mood isn't going to change based on what's going on. He would more likely be at the mercy of his moods and it wouldn't be so easy to point out a "why" for them. He wouldn't get happy when something good happens and upset when something bad happens, he'd just be in whatever mood he's in and that's that. I'm annoyed that they're talking about these violent episodes he has as a typical feature of bipolar disorder. That's a crock. Clearly I'm overthinking this, plus I'm trying to diagnose him based on realistic DSM criteria and not The Loquero's Guide to Telenovela Maladies.

Cynderella, Novia de???, so, mixing up your fairy tales, eh?! Hilarious!

For the record, I have always thought Marilu looked like a Stepford Wife even before she officially became a Stepford Wife. I don't see any acting skillz on this chick.

I still think there are too many lies that Rhodalina has to swallow. There are just too many lies. When is that going to blow up in their faces?!

Oh, and Cynderella, LOVED Sebastian's tricky looking name in print!

Fatima

5Ft Diva, EXCELLENT observation and well said. I am not buying this bipolar diagnosis, either. I agree. I think he has a personality disorder and I am, frankly, disappointed that our writers (who have done such an excellent job) got sloppy with this.

Fatima

Thanks Cynderella, your fairytale translation was hilarious. I was sure she mentioned Shrek and the donkey too. I know I heard it.
That kissing scene had everything you love. The lip smacking and the slurping.

I meant to mention this yesterday, but did anyone else catch the look Mariano gave Maritru? It was brief and it was very unpriestly. I am certain they will end up together.

Yes, Cathyx. I caught it and got that vibe too.

Thanks Sara. I knew I wasn't imagining things. They would be good together. Both are sweet and kind and unselfish people.

Is this the first time in a TN that a priest has willingly and, for his own good and honest reasons, left the priesthood?

Fatima

Cyn: so much laughing during the reading.

I loved the uproarious Lucina's interpretation. Based on your recaps, I feel that you are similar people, your styles are very entertaining. :)
And after it was followed by your tale in Shrek-style: unspeakably good! :)

Killing lines: for example: " He regrets that she doesn’t make him horny, baby, but the little Ricky likes what he likes." :D :D :D

If I were the judge, I would think Ori is not a good mother why she choose his husband.

About the horrible song. I observed a weird thing in my environment. Most of the boyfriends who hear this they liked, but not all of the girls. I might be a hardcore fan, but this song have been my alarm ring at least for a half year.

Marilu always looks Ricky with admiration and wistfulness. Richard is the forbidden fruit.

Fatima, it isn't.

Telemundo had one about 9 years ago called Gitanas. The priest was a younger son of a controlling mother who brainwashed him into the priesthood in a similar manner to Dona Bernarda in TdA. At the age of 40 he left the priesthood to marry the beautiful widow he fell in love with. It was a remake of a Chilean series but I don't know if it played the same way in the original.

Cynderella - Thanks for the laughs. The show seems to be in a holding pattern, but your recaps always deliver. My favorites:

"Cotton Pickin’ Union"

"She thinks that women are ri-richard-culous"

"Jose Luis scribbles a picture and walks out. He’s got things to do and people to see."

"He can be treated with therapy sessions and an elephant tranquilizer gun"

Niecie, I thought the same thing. They just seem to be talking about jail and talking about the adoption. Nothing is happening. Oh, I forgot to talk about the advances. Ricky and Jose Luis get in a knock down drag out. Ricky is seen holding a vase over Jose Luis. I THINK he told Jose Luis that he "carried Oriana's milk" everywhere and all night long.

Only certain people will get that reference.

5ft Latina, after carefully reviewing the tape again, I have determined that he might have ADHD. He's always got somewhere to be. He never sits down and relaxes.

CathyX, you cursed me! You're the one who said that all the love scenes are on Tuesdays. I believe that Jardinera deliberately gave me that day. I vow revenge. LOL

J desde NYC, if ya loved me, you would send me one of those street chili dogs with onions. They are so awesome!

Urban, thank you so much for the info. I was wondering if this TN was doing a ground breaking move with Padre Plaid, but looks like Telemundo beat them to the punch!

I think our dear Padre has certainly added a lot to this story.

Fatima

Cyndi, thanks for a terrific recap. My laugh for the day was when Paloma wanted Ines to accompany her to the grave, but Ines was “afraid of being haunted by a crack addict ghost”. Too funny!!

5ft, I like your take on JL’s bipolar dx. The problem is that the boundaries that separate one mental condition from another can be blurry and often overlap. Adrian Noel said it best: “So JL is bipolar - let us all get ready for the twisted ways this very real condition will be distorted to serve the plot.”

Cynderella, I got your milk reference, so funny. He carried it everywhere, the bathroom, the couch, the bedroom, and all night long, haha. He' one strong dude. Who better to do the sex scenes that you? And he's a regular Tuesday milk carrier.

What's actually rather odd is that there was a shorter series, La Ley del Silencio, where there was a younger padre who contemplated leaving the church. It only ran 32 episodes and I was told that it was because there was objection to the idea of the priest leaving the priesthood.

I have no idea why that would be when Gitanas ran 162. But -- from my perspective -- Gitanas was a better story.

Cynderella thanks for the recap! While I'm with you about your concern about Marilu being a nut about to crack, I'm still creeped out by Piero. His phone call last night and what he said afterward about Fabi hurrying up and picking someone is all types of wrong to me. For someone in their 30s, coming off of a bad divorce, Piero clearly wants to give marriage another whirl. I would feel better if it were with someone more age appropriate.

Leo to me is more like Fabi in that they are just hanging out and having fun getting to know one another. If marriage happens, fine; if not, fine. Piero will not be OK if he doesn't get married.

Great recap, but I'm getting bored with the TN, too much same ole, same ole, crying, I can't do this anymore, jail would be better, especially when O said it to Ricky after he married Marilu.

Thanks, Cyn. Your recaps and comments always give me a giggle, and I can never get enough giggles.

I am a little confused about everyone seeing the shrink for testing. There is someone in my life who I feel might be bipolar, but others in the family think that he narcissistic. He is illogical, has anger problems, takes risks, drinks, constantly makes bad decisions, and seems to be his own worst enemy. He does not like to be hugged . If he gets mad at you, you are dead to him. He has done this with his own family..brothers, sisters , his parents. If he disagrees with someone, he wants no contact with them. He runs away from anyone who gets on his wrong side. What do you think ...narcissistic or bipolar ? I have recently learned that he had been put on meds , but he stopped taking them due to side effects. I wish I could figure out what his problem is so that I could understand him better.

Hi Susanlynn,

Thanks for coming by! You are my "sick twin". LOL

OK, what you are describing is not bi-polar. I lived with a bi-polar person until I became an adult. I don't even think that Jose Luis is bi-polar.

I don't know how to explain how a bi-polar person acts. It's kind like they go from really super duper happy to really super duper sad or violent. Like 5 ft said, there is not trigger. It just is.

A long time ago, I had a bi-polar student. She would giggle gleefully and sob simultaneously. I used to fill so sorry for her because I wondered how it felt to be in her head. This would happen whenever she would go off her her medication. She died, but she was sweet.

Geez, "feel" so sorry for her. Correction.

Cynderella...I don't watch the show and don't read the recaps. But something told me to check in with this today and when I read your comment about "carrying the milk" I knew that was why. Lordy, I loved it when you ran that riff in Abismo de Pasion. Great times. Great memories. Thanks, crazy lady.

Thanks for stopping by JudyB! Appreciate people who like my sense of humor. Sometimes I know that I can get out of hand. LOL.

Karen, I guess I'm thinking about it from Fabi's point of view. When I was 18, I dated a man who was in his mid-30's. I also dated a man who was around my age. The guy in his 30s was very sweet to me. Her remembered birthdays, he remember to pick me up from work. He remembered that I was in the house. I was his princess. The guy my age (I married). I should have stayed with the older guy.

Cyn...You?...out of hand ???...never. You are the best, girl. you always make me smile.

Thanks for explaining bipolar. Okay, so he's not that. Maybe he is just your run-of-the-mill asshat and there is no explanation to understand why he is the way he is. I am actually starting to feel that he is a tragic figure.

P.s. I did not get the "carrying the milk" thing. Is it an inside joke or a Spanish expression.
once rely, your fan and sick twin

Once rely ????? Was supposed to be ..sincerely. This Ipad is out to get me. Am I being paranoid ? ..yes, probably.

Cyn- When I finally got back to the blog this evening, I knew that I had to wait to savor your recap until after I had settled in and had a good meal. This was a perfect after dinner treat.

I loved your version of the fairytale. Makes as much sense as Paloma's version. As long as Alina got it...

Marilu is starting to worry me. She's definitely getting a Stepford look in the eyes when she talks to Ricky.

In Abismo de Pasion, one of good female characters was trying to hook up with a kinda sorta good guy/bad guy. He liked her too, but he was clueless about her feelings for him. Anyways, one day she decides to go for it. She waits for him at the market and asks him to "carry her milk" home for her. He didn't understand and turned her down. I could not let that go. "Carry my milk" was a subtle way of asking for sex. In the end, she married another character and he carried her milk everywhere and all night long. He even curdled her cheese and churned her ice cream. You had to be there.

Yay! Vivi is here AND you are starting to suspect that Marilu may not be quite right! I have an ally finally.

Cynderella, I am so VERY disappointed that you didn't remember that I have long had my doubts about Stepford Marilu!!

Fatima

I am sooooo sorry, Fatima. I didn't know that you thought she was a freak. Thank you too! I feel so happy.

Ah yes, I remember our many discussions on milk carrying on Abismo. :)

Urban- It still seems to me that this tn is groundbreaking in having a priest leave the priesthood of his own free will, as the tn you describe has the guy joining the priesthood because he was brainwashed in the first place. His deciding to leave wouldn't shock the audience terribly.

Mariano, on the other hand, freely and happily became a priest, was good at it and enjoyed it, but then started to have his doubts about what he wants. Being as good looking and social as he is, you know he had girlfriends before the priesthood, and plenty of lady parishioners who batted their eyes at him over the years, and he's been dedicated until now. Nothing crazy, scandalous, or dramatic happened to make him change (I don't count defending himself from rabid SebAss). He just decided he really wants a wife and kids. Otherwise, he still seems really happy behaving like a priest and counseling/advising people.

Apology accepted, dear Cynderella. :))

Fatima :)))

Vivi, he should just do what Padre Alberto did and become Espiscopalian.

SusanLynn, what you describe sounds like Borderline Personality Disorder.
