Mentir Para Vivir #82 Fri 1/31/14 Hiding in Plain Sight

capítulo 82

Lo Del Pasado:

Mad Malibu de Marilu has spitefully just opened the ID theft/false identity can of worms that everyone else had been hoping to avoid during this entire adoption farce.  Hopefully she will be eventually taken to the woodshed by none other than Joaquin Barrago himself!  Ricardo wants to slap the stupid b!tch silly and fights to keep his cool as she gives the judge the skinny on the Falcon/Caligaris name change and marital connection.

Lo Del Nuevo:

The judge realizes that Ric and ML are not the sweet, sensible, loving newlyweds they’d pawned themselves off as earlier.  According to Mala-boo Marilu, Ric and 2nes are lovers; 2nes is a criminal and a home-wrecker; and she’s still married to another crook who also is using a false identity: Sr. Francisco Castro!  The judge decides that while he investigates the situation further, Alina will have to be sent for her own welfare into the state foster system [casa hogar=orphanage], which will be a fate worse than death, apparently, for Oriana and little Lina, not to mention Paloma.  Once the interview with the judge is finished, Ric tells Marilu that he’s starting divorce proceedings the next day first thing and she and her crutches can find their own way back to Fidelia’s.  He heads over to Paloma’s to give Oriana the bad news.

Meanwhile, the Wicked Witch of Social Work East loses no time in hopping on her broomstick, flying over to Fidelia’s to show off her court order, and then taking charge of Alina.  Fidelia is taken totally by surprise and immediately calls Ric to ask what’s going on.  He tells his aunt that Mala-boo opened her big sassy-ass mouth and told the judge lots of things she shouldn’t have, exactly as she’d threatened to do; and now Alina will be sent to the orphanage til things are sorted through by the courts.

Just as Fidelia hangs up, Mala-boo hobbles downstairs to watch the fireworks and smirks evilly at her handiwork.   Fi orders Celio to explain that Lina and her mother are out somewhere and that he knows absolutely nothing else.  Marilu attempts to enter the discussion and Fi has finally run out of patience.  She hauls off and slaps Ms. Smarmilu upside the head, catching her off balance, and making the self-entered little minx fall on her teensy bony ass. (Ohhhhh!  That was satisfying.  Almost as good as chocolate fudge cake!)  Fi forbids Celio to help Smarmilu back up (the icing on the cake ) and then screams at her to pack up and get out of the manse ASAP!   Marilu tells her nothin’ doin’ since it’s Fi’s nephew’s house and as his wife, she has no right to kick her out of the place.  (Ooops!  Somebody left a piece of toothpick in that cake.....)

Ric hangs up and rushes to Paloma’s to give Oriana the bad news.  Oriana takes it as well as can be expected--which ain’t exactly good at all.   In fact, she blames Ricardope for not doing something more to have stopped La Mala-boo.

Once Ric leaves, she asks Fabiola to call for Paloma’s doctor in case the bad news causes the old gal more heart problems.

Ori explains to Alina they’re having to run away again cuz if they don’t run away now then the judge will put her into that orphanage where kids whose families are having problems are always put.  The bad news is that Tito has to stay at Paloma’s for now. This frightens and upselts the heck out of the little girl but she can deal, and a bit later they leave for parts as yet unknown.

Homero is complaining to Leonardo about the way he seems to be selfishly toying with Fabi’s feelings by not wanting to have a formal relationship with her.  Leo says sorry, but he can’t do anything differently about Fabi.  Marriage just isn’t in the cards at this point for him.  Grampa Snoops advises Leo to stop leading her on and to either fish or cut bait.

Ric arrives at Homero’s manse just then to give Snoops grief; he blames the old dude for telling Oriana that giving her daughter up for adoption was her only option.  Now that Marilu’s gone bonkers and told the judge the the details of their arranged marriage, Lina’s been ordered to a state run orphanage—exactly what they’d hoped to avoid in the first place!!

Snoops tells Ric he’ll straighten things out with the judge for him and first calls Inpector Gadget Carmelo and Manolo over to the house to explain to them they’re to stop the taking of the little girl by pulling rank as “agents acting on behalf of” the Federal Security Agency.  Oriana is a federally protected witness and Fed has legal priority over State decrees, he reminds them.  The Hermosillo police force of two agrees to block her arrest.  Next he calls the judge.

The judge stubbornly tells him that he’ll have to come to his office to discuss things but Snoops explains that he’s supposed to be dead and so cannot be seen in public.  The judge will have to come there to his manse to speak with him, but El Juez gets on his high horse and refuses.  Snoops threatens to let loose a number of the judge’s personal secrets if he doesn’t agree to meet him at the manse ASAP.  El Juez knows when he’s been beaten and gives in.  Click.  Ric has no need to worry about that judge, Snoops assures him, cuz he knows in which closet all the judge’s personal skeletons are hidden.  As for Alina, that’s a whole other kettle of fish.

The social worker arrives at Paloma’s looking for Lina.  Nadia tells her and Ric that Oriana left a bit ago and was supposedly headed for Ric’s place. The officious little social worker warns the servants that if they’re lying to her it’s a federal crime.  (That just bites, doesn’t it??)  When Ric learns later that she never arrived at his or Fi’s place, the social worker threatens to call the police.  Ric tells her to do whatever she needs to do.  He has Cesar round up the rest of the posse so they can do their own search.

A few minutes later, Paloma gets the news about the judge’s order and that 2nes and Lina have fled.  Ric suggests that surely 2nes will call her once she’s situated to make sure Paloma doesn’t worry unnecessarily.  Dr. Cardio works his magic and keeps her from having another attack.  FF>>

That evening--hours after ditching the SUV and traipsing through numerous neighborhoods in the city—the two arrive at Fort Falcon. Lina is asleep in her mother’s arms.  (Excuuuuuuuse me????  All that endlessly boring footage of her and the kid walking to simply show up at Jose Luis’s?????)  Jose Luis swallows his pills and shepherds them in.  He is Family Man impactado.

Ric determines that Oriana has fled with Alina and told no one where she’s heading.   Mariano, Piero, Cesar and Ruben form a posse for Ric and they start checking the hospitals, hotels, airlines, bus and train station trying to find the two of them.  No luck.

Oriana tells JL that they need a place to stay.  She needs his help because she’s got nowhere else to go.  The only thing she asks him is not to ask her any questions now and in the morning, she promises, she'll tell him everything.  They put Alina to bed.  JL heads into the living room alone and pours himself a drink. He isn’t sure why they are back with him, but he promises Dios that because of this miracle he’s going to become a changed man.  He puts down the drink, untouched, and has his man-servant to throw out all the liquor.  When he finally goes back into Alina’s bedroom to check on the two of them, he sees the two of them asleep, snuggled under the covers together. It’s almost like old times.  He sheds a tear of thanks and blows a kiss their way.

The next morning Ori starts telling JL the whole story.  Not to worry.  He’s now Fakecisco for all intents and purposes and she, thanks to Homero de la Garza, is officially Ines Valdivia.  So, it doesn’t matter what Marilu told the judge.  The problem is getting back custody and since ML told the judge that Ori and Ric are lovers, the judge ordered her to the state run orphanage.  “—Well, are you?”  Ori stutters and then clarifies for JL (again) that they’d all thought he was dead, so once she got to know Ricardo and he’d offered his help…things progressed from there.  “—Oh.  Well, I understand.”  She asks if it doesn’t matter to him (any more?)  He says of course it matters, AND it hurts.  “—But you’re going around with Raquel.” His appearance is total calm and sincerity.  “—Believe me.  She doesn’t matter to me one bit.”  He kisses her hand.  He’s become the gentleman she once knew…and loved.  “—So, tell me.  Why are you here?”  Because it was the only place they’d never look for her, she answers.  He offers her his protection and his life if it comes to that.

At Paloma’s, Dr. Cardio is back, along with Ricardope and the posse, to tell her they’ve come up with nada.

Alina’s fears are their next problem.  Once she wakes up and realizes where she is she’s going to be frightened.  JL will move to his hotel suite he keeps while Ori tries convincing her, little by little, that he can be trusted again.  Ori mentions how Lina’s been seeing the school psychologist.  They agree the police are probably after her and so she’s not to use his home phone.  Her cell GPS is off, at least.  He has another cell in the study she can use.  Meanwhile, he says, he’ll speak with Dr. Varonese about getting his help to have custody given to him should Ric and Marilu get divorced.  He calls the phone company to have his home phone number changed.

Manolo informs Snoops that Oriana’s flown the coop.  He calls Ric to verify and tells him that that was a major mistake.  Ric essentially tells Homero “no duh!” and hangs up.  He tells Manolo that the casa hogar will undoubtedly report her flight to the police, so to tell Ric that he’s to tell the authorities that Ori had no idea they’d come for Lina and that with the father’s permission she left on vacation with Lina.

Back at Fort Falcon, Lina wakes up and is immediately scared to be back in her daddy’s house.  Oriana finally tells her that people aren’t always either bad or good; that they all have times when they lose their temper and act mean, but then they know it and say it will never happen again.  (Ok.  Why didn’t she tell the kid this from the beginning, duh?)  So her mommie’s not afraid of her daddy anymore because she is certain that he’s changed.  They agree to give him another chance.

Ric visits with Fidelia to explain that Oriana simply got frightened and fled.  Mala-boo hobbles down to gloat and Ric gives her grief.  He doesn’t want to hear a word from her.  How could she have been such an idiot?  She wears a perfect “who me?” expression and again accuses him of divorcing her to sleep with Oriana.  He gripes back.  She titters smugly and says she’s not going to ever give him that divorce and then hobbles away.

Manolo gives the social worker the story Homero cooked up.  She tells him and Gadget that she doesn’t believe a word of it.  She’s filing a police report.  Manolo and Gadget take the report.

Ric argues with his new lawyer about Oriana’s leaving “on vacation.”  She’s got to come back immediately, says the lawyer.  Good luck finding her, says Ric.  He’s got no idea where she’s gone.

Jose Luis goes to Dr. Varonese to request his help to get back custody of his little girl.  He explains that once Ric and ML are divorced the judge will order her to an orphanage.  He assures the psychiatrist that he’s given up his drinking and is dutifully taking his medicine specifically to get custody of his daughter back.  Besides, he cannot see his daughter having to pay for the mistakes of others.  Dr. V. tells him that he’s going to definitely see the judge about this and will ask for JL to be given back custody of his daughter.  He will emphasize in his next report how JL has favorably progressed with treatment.

When JL returns home, another thug guerrero is waiting by the entrance to introduce himself.  He’s from Joquin and has orders to stay with him.  JL tells him to go back where he came from and orders the manservant not to let him in.

Paloma and Ori are talking on the phone together.  She is letting Paloma know that the two of them are fine, but won’t tell her where they are.

The judge has come to see Homero.  He thought Homero had retired.  Yes, but although retired, he’s been pulled into an old investigation because one of the criminals he was tracking wound up living in Hermosillo.  And he’s intervened aslo because, believe it or not, for family reasons.

At Fort Falcon, Ori continues explaining about the judge and the foster program.  FF>>

Paloma calls Ric to let him know 2nes called her finally and she and Lina are safe.  He tells her it’s really important that the next time she calls to tell her to hand herself over to the authorities.  Lina will only be in the casa hogar for a few days and then will get out.  But, she has to hand herself over!

Ricardope and the posse are stumped.  Where would she likely be?  Where she’s most unlikely to be, answer’s Mariano.  Like at Lucina’s, suggests Ric.   No, of course not there, says Piero!  The “where” there remains nowhere cuz none of them can see the Fortress for the fir trees.

Always worth the wait, Jardinera!

Another wild ride last night.

Jose Luis made me feel sorry for him. OMG!

I thought this was a boring and annoying episode. What did Ric et al think they were going to do once they found Oriana? What does Oriana think will happen now that she's lodged at JL's? I'm glad it's the weekend and I have time to be away from this show.

Cyn-I know right?!

I totally loved the 4 Musketeers/stooges walking the walk in the parking garage.

Oh and putting their heads together.

Ok. We have to think of the last place we would think to look.

Lucinas?

No.

Where could she be? Where could she be?

Cynderella, me too. When JL turned his back to Ori, he looked like he wanted to do a happy dance.

Sara: 5 musketeers, no? :)

For me Fidelia'a slap hit the biggest!

Ori's mentality is interesting. I am curious what effect will it for Lina. Moving to the bad aggressive father, but the child therapist started to alley her fears.

I loved the Fidelia slap also, go Fidelia! especially when she told the servant not to pick her up.

AlejoP-oops! You're right, forgot about Cesar. And I LOVED the Fidelia slap!!!!!!

So she has moved back in with the abusive husband/father and she really thinks no one would ever think of looking for her there? Anyhow I wish Diego Olivera could move his face so I could figure out what José Luis is supposed to be feeling.

I felt sorry for Alina when she was begging to go home. I think she meant Paloma's house, but the poor child has had a whole lot of homes since they left Colombia.

Will Ricardo never learn that harumphing, stomping and demanding usually yields nothing, at least not in this novela? How frustrating that the current dilemma, the guardianship of Alina, was created not by the villains but by our hapless heroes.

I also loved Captain America and the Avengers trooping through the parking lot.

Agreed, not very smart of Oriana to go to JL's, but I appreciate the fact that she tried to do something since things were spiraling out of control.

Marilu got what was coming to her, but it was only a good start. Three oles for Fidelia!

I always thought of Fidelia as a bit spineless, but wow! Can't wait to hear your take on it, Jardinera :D

Cyndy, I also felt sorry for JL when Alina and Oriana showed up and he was so grateful they were there; but the next day when he was talking to Oriana my skin started crawling again. 'I just can't trust him especially since he's never apologized for putting them in that situation.

I lol'ed so hard off the Fedelia slap. She was so funnily aggressive when she told Celio to leave Marilu on the floor. Fidelia loves Alina since she came to the beach house and I knew she was 'going to be super heated when she found out the state was going to take Alina b/c of Marilu's betrayal.

Marilu, you're doing it wrong. I never thought Ric used her b/c Ric told her several times there was no emotional attachment on his part and asked you several times if you're sure about going through with the marriage since he could find someone else. She betrayed Ric, Oriana and Alina over nonsense. Marilu getting mad that Ric is sleeping with Oriana is like getting mad that water is wet.

That stunt will not get you Ric and Fedelia and Paloma will be slapping you into various nationalities for the forseeable future if they see you in the streets for messing with Alina's life. And Ric will gladly hold their handbags while they're doing it, too. If she wanted to get back at Ric, she should've tried to run him over with her car, stab him in his hand with a fork (I don't support these things but they'd be understandable). But don't put an innocent child's life in danger/peril/instability for your nonsense.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but just for the slap you all describe, I can't wait to watch.

With so few episodes left I'm surprised that there are so few comments on this series in comparison to the others. How did this one do in Mexico?

It's up y'all. ITSA with all your comments so far. Loved the slap heard 'round the world and especially when she told Celio to leave her right where she was!

Somehow I don't think Leo is going to end up with Fabi, either. And, who knows? Maybe JL will get a reprieve from the TN gods?

Urban: Got no clue as to the lagging intrest level, tho' the others may have more compelling screen duo's and villanos. Dunno. This was never a Prime Time piece of work, tho' it's been somewhat intriguing to watch and well enough acted.

No way. He killed Omero's chauffeur and almost killed Tito. I'm sure there will be more madness to come as well.

UA- I wish I knew how it did in Mexico. According to wikipedia (not the best source) it's highest rating was 19.6 (during one of the last 10 episodes.)

I wish I knew the answer to your question. I know I really like the show with all its flaws and derailments, but for me there's not a whole lot to discuss. The Fabi storyline was discussion worthy, but that's about it in the last few weeks. There have been so many "twists" and behavior changes that the only real reaction for me is to just shake my head and go with the flow.

As Jardinera said, intriguing and acted well enough...but I don't really feel that invested in the fate of any particular character.

Well, I did with Fabi, but she seems to be getting stronger every day so I'm not as worried about her.

I never bought the Padre Plain in love with Oriana business so I'm real ambivalent about that story.

Seems like they're giving Fide a spine and she and Ruben are reconnecting so I'm happy on that front.

Hmmm. Seems like they are wrapping things up on a lot of fronts and that's weird with so many episodes to go...

Jardinera- I love the kitteh!

Sara: That's CATalina. She's a 7 month old tortoise shell with medium long fur, has a persian's fluffy tail and hind legs, and has crazy long fur in between the toe pads of her paws.(Like Hobbit feet, LOL!) A real spunky puss!

UA: How did this one do in Mexico?

The opinioon of a Hungarian Televisa Telenovela blogger is the following.

"MPV was cheered unanimously by viewers and critics, but somehow it was not reflected in ratings. Viewers was likely to lose the thread quickly among the fibers of police, and others didn't forgive Ocampo that she gave the heroine character to Mayrin."

I think the blogger might have right, because TN-s with protagonic Mayrin were not too successful.

Here is a small table with data. It was made in 17 November 2013.
http://televisahirblog.files.wordpress.com/2013/11/promedios19.jpg?w=450&h=214

AlejoP - Interesting information about reception in Hungary. I liked Mayrin in Juan Querendon and in Nina Amada Mia, but she was was part of ensemble casts in both. I don't know her work as a protagonist. i think she does fine here, but the script isn't right for a mature woman and she and DS just don't do it for me -- again perhaps the script.

Thanks, J., looking forward to a usual fun weekend read. I too wonder about Fabiola with Leo. I am betting that she goes it alone with the support of all the good guys and gals left at the end.

Another wonderful recap Jardinera654!

Like Sara, I am just shaking my head and going with the flow. Oriana's latest round of Pflip Pflop Philosophy re JL (who is doing a slow descent into something bad)was very frustrating from the standpoint of a viewer who has INVESTED time in the TN. I think Viewerville's Investment in the story is not a prime interest of the writers. Such a shame. Maybe it's because they know we keep coming back no matter what.

Honestly, Oriana no longer interests me. I wanted to slap her face when she told Alina that business about how people can change. Why in the heck doesn't she just tell the kid the TRUTH?! That would be novel, wouldn't it?!

AlejoP, that is very interesting that "viewers" were not happy with Ocampo in their choice of Mayrin as the lead female actress.

Who DID they want? Inquiring minds would like to know. :))

Fatima

Jardinera-Either I've asked about CATalina before or you've mentioned it because I remember thinking before that that was a clever name.

AlejoP-Thanks for the info. I'll check that out. I think Mayrin is a good "straight man". Granted I didn't see all of it, but she was tolerable in UFCS. I just don't see her as prota material. She's gorgeous, but she just doesn't seem to "command" the screen when she's on it.

The spoiler bumpers have really kept me ambivalent as well. They were/are bad. Oriana gets in an accident, but it's no surprise to me. I already know who Mariano is going to end up interested in, so when she finally shows up...I'll already know where it's going.

The same thing happened with Ric and Marilu's wedding.

I will say this: That huge portrait of Paloma Hija has intrigued me since the beginning and I fully expected a plot twist involving it...but it never happened and at this point I can't fathom that it will. So either there were plans to do something and they nixed them...or I over thought the set-dressing.

Just finished reading the recap and it's a hoot. I love Mala-boo and the closing line is brilliant.

When Doc Cardio walked into Paloma's room she had the same expression my cats get when I pull out the cat carrier for vet visits.

Thanks Jardinera the recap. I enjoyed the best here also the slapping part. :-)

I didn't know Mayrin so far, but since the 27-28 capitulo I have liked the actress. I am sure you know the "comunidad of telenovelas univision forum", where there are very "Ican'tfindwordsforthem" commenters. More commenters like sharks waited for the failing of MPV, because of Mayrin.

In so many scenes in so many episodes, Paloma has shown that she is in charge and can take charge. It kind of bugs me that the minute bad news comes, the first words out of their mouths is that Paloma can't handle it and better call the doctor.

I don't think they give Paloma credit for being able to handle things. Yes, she has had some legitimate upsets, but by and large, she's a tough woman. She grew up in a time when "talking back" to one's husband was probably not tolerated in her culture, but she has seen the error of those ways and has chosen better paths for herself now.

That part, I like. :)

Fatima

AlejoP, oh yes, NOW I see. The proverbial sharks waiting for someone's failure. Yep. I get it. :)

Fatima

I get the feeling Zarrattini casted against type on purpose for the leads hoping good acting would overcome looks, but it didn't work. I've always thought Mayrin, though a good actress, has played this wrong...too cold. She has no chemistry with anyone except Paloma and Alina. As a result David Zepeda is doing all the galan work, annoying us with his overeagerness and she's like an ice block. And she's the same way with Diego Olivera, who's traditional galan material. You'd never know from her face Oriana has ever been in love, much less have two men chasing her down. She's just blank face all the time.

Cynderella: Yep, I felt sorry for JL also--but I've always been on his side. We know he cannot get out of this alive, though, and that's a real shame.
=======

BTW, for the record, I don't think Raqi's carrying JL's baby. I think it is probably Caesar's. Jus' sayin'.

Ric's character is wearing thin on me. Perhaps it's DZ's way of portraying him. Maybe I just can't stand whiny dudes. He and Piero are just boring types I guess.
==========

Sara: yep, I did mention her name briefly when I first got her. The last few cats I've owned I have given names with words having "cat" in them. It's getting tougher as I am starting to run out of cat derivatives as options! LOL!

Mala-boo...that's cute. I like it.

Thanks Jardinera, I really appreciated this recap because my recorder didn't record it. "Due to a schedule change" which I was unaware of.
I sure wish I could have seen that slap that Fedelia gave Maricoo coo.

My favorite part was how you described all that walking and they ended up at JL's place. The coming attractions had me on pins and needles waiting to find out where on earth she could possibly be going.

I think I could feel a bit more sympathetic towards 2nes's plight if her character dressed in more casual attire. IMO it would make her seem a bit humble and more likeable. Instead, she always looks as if she just stepped off the red carpet or a fashion runway.

Poor Rick, obsessed to a fault!

Thank you, Jardinera!

I think Oriana's reaction - take Alina and run - was desperate, but kind of realistic. The fact that she went to JL should really make Ric wonder.
Wanna bet that the first thing he asks her when they meet again is if she slept with JL?

Diego Oliveira always has a way of making me feel sorry for JL when he's in one of his good moments. I really need to see him in as a protagonist.
Did you all know that he and Silvia Navarro were the leads in Azteca's Montecristo? I watched some of the scenes, they were pretty good together. I wouldn't mind seeing them together for Televisa, too (if and only if CdlF is not available, of course).

Diego and Silvia were wonderful in Montecristo, and I saw an interview with him where he said he'd love to work with her again, now that they are both at Televisa. They had some muy calinente chemistry in that tn. But who doesn't Silvia have chemistry with?

Vivi, have you seen their love scenes? Especially the one after she realizes who he is! ( I believe everyone is familiarized with the story of Count of Montecristo).
Smoking hot, indeed!

Oh yeah. I've seen that scene. :) Uni would have chopped it to bits.

JL is getting more interesting with this authentic attempt to change. I thought we'd see a smirk or something showing that he knows he's on top again, but nope. He goes and gets rid of the booze. He'll probably regret that, but good for trying. Bad guys are so much more interesting when they can also be sympathetic.

Have you all already discussed what the heck Tito is? (I have to watch online so I got behind in the discussions). He looks too bloated to be a chihuahua.

Kelly

Thanks for another great recap, Jardinera. It's such a treat to brighten up a dreary afternoon here.

I'd really like to see Oriana and JL get back together to finish up that interrupted romantic evening so long ago that got this all started. Maybe right before his anvil smushes him.

Sara,

"When Doc Cardio walked into Paloma's room she had the same expression my cats get when I pull out the cat carrier for vet visits."

Perfect. I always love Paloma's "Oh crap!" reaction when they bring the Doc in to stand by as she gets her dose of bad news.

Isn't it interesting how much interest the Mexican government seems to take in the welfare of rich kids?

Carlos

JL's authentic attempt to change was moving because when Oriana and Lina showed up he was just taking his pills with water.

I still don't trust him since he tried to kill Homero-and thinks he was successful- and his treatment of Raquel PLUS the Tito beating. I still don't believe his name is even Jose Luis and there is rooms more of shoes to drop with him.

Yeah, according to "tha rulez" you don't kill some one and get away with it.

Do you?

Last sentence should read: ...there are rooms more of shoes waiting to drop with him (JL).

I absolutely believe we have never heard his real name.

UA, when he was having that heart-to-heart with Oriana about why she came back, the thing that struck me was that he said he left no trace after Colombia. If he 's Colombian, and his name is Jose Luis Falcon, wouldn't there be traces of a life with that name? Plus, he had the house in Colombia put in Oriana's name. If he was on the up,and up, why do that?

That's just the thing with me-he's never been fully honest with Oriana about who he is. And if he really plans to get his family back, he needs to lay it out on the table with Oriana, especially since she's in love with Ricardo. He has too put it out on the table and make Oriana choose knowing her options. He's never gonna go straight because he was always crooked.

Just watching my recording now and I watched the slap three times. I also noticed the the judge's secretary blew her off and didn't call her a cab. :)

Lina was very moving as she resisted leaving Tito behind. Not only did she say he is her best friend, but also that he's her baby (chiquito). Their goodbye was also very cute as he licked her hand and crawled across the bed to her as she was leaving. Who would have known that this little dog would become so important in the lives of these characters.

Jardinera thanks so much for your recap. Regarding last week, your recap was fine; it's the stupid/unusual "witness protection program" that makes little sense to me. It's probably b/c I'm comparing it to how its done in the US and all this scheme really does is temporarily absolve Oriana of identity fraud in a ridiculously confusing way.

Like Sara, I am hoping that the writers don't forget the pic and tell us why Oriana looks so much like Paloma's real daughter. If they don't address that, it will be a real loss.

J desde NYC, ITA w/you about JL. He lies too well. As you said, he hasn't put his cards on the table with Oriana. How can he claim he wants his family back when he has a pregnant lover in addition to all of his other dirty dealings.

Sara love your new kitty pic. One of my friends posted this on fb (a cat calming an agitated baby) and thought you and UA would like it - http://blog.petflow.com/a-cat-was-left-alone-with-a-fussy-baby-i-was-stunned-by-what-happened-next/

I think Maryn had a huge challenge in this role. She had to play multiple types of protagonists, all in the same role. She has to be a housewife and a woman who had been married for years. She had to be a mom (and not a new mom, as we often see with heroines who are just having babies). And she had to be a woman falling in love with a new galan. I think she excelled at the mother and wife roles—especially the mom role.

Where I was not convinced was the new love/new galan aspect. But I also understood that a woman in her situation would always put her child, and what she thought was best for her child, first, and a new man in her life would take the backseat. Does this make for exciting tn watching, when we want to see romance and fireworks between our main couple? No. Can we think of another actress who would have been able to tackle and conquer all the distinct aspects of the Oriana character? I also think having a galan (David Zapeda) who doesn’t have an easy time generating chemistry with any of his galanas doesn’t help either.

Finally finished watching. Thanks so much Jardinera! Wonderful recap, as usual.

ITA with you all. As nice as it was to see JL being moved by having his wife and child back at home, he's not to be trusted. He has never owned up to his fault in all of this, and he continues to lie to Ori on a regular basis. He doesn't know how to be honest with her. And I don't trust that he won't erupt in a rage again, even if he's on his meds and off the liquor.

Gracias, Jardinera! That was, indeed, a satisfying slap. It also, importantly, left Marilu unable to do anything else malicious while the social worker was there.

I'm really not happy with all the sudden justifying of JL's behavior to Lina, both by the school psychologist and by Oriana. Forgiving someone doesn't mean you're required to put yourself in a position to let them hurt you again.

Jardinera - Terrific recap. Love "Mala-boo-Marilu" and "Ms. Smarmilu."

Fidelia's slap was extra fun cause I didn't see it coming. So glad they didn't put it in the previews.

JL prayed that if he got Ori and Alina back, he'd become a changed man. But as others have mentioned, he's extremely selfish. The only people he cares about are the three of them. To hell with the driver he killed, the hit he ordered on Berto, the threats to Sebas, Leo's godfather's suicide, dumping Raquel and setting her up in fraud, etc. Even if he doesn't go beserker again -- and my guess is he will -- he'd have to do a 360 degree turn to be fit for Ori and Alina again.

Ori needs to call Ricky too to alleviate his nerves. I don't think I can take it if he whines yet again about the possibility of her boinking JL.

Vivi, I can think of many TN actresses who could've pulled this off-Jacky Bracamontes, Aracely Arambula, Lisette Morelos, Silvia Navarro. The thing is that Mayrin didn't seem to try much, which made David Zepeda who turned up the moon in love charm look like this over eager idiot.

Maybe David Z smells like 5 -day old gym socks but I'm sure they can find him a prota he generates spark with. He's a good actor and, except for the crazy person who put him in scarves, I thought he did a great job as a galan. He's been smart, loving, supportive and a great Dad to Alina.

16.6 in mx. Excellent novela, but from what I read, lack of chemistry b/w the main leads and the fact that it was more of a thriller and not romantic contributed to its failure ratings wise.

DZ/Ivan had chemistry with Laisha Wilkins' Maripaz, IMO.

I liked him best as Soy Tu Duena's Alonso, who was bad but turned good. I think DZ has great chemistry with children.

I mean, I was rooting for Ivan & Maripaz to have a real marriage in the US instead of him being stuck with boring Lucia.

I think DZ needs to have a dynamic female counterpart to generate chemistry. I just don't think pairing him up as a galan works against a boring, weepy protagonista.

Mayrin as Oriana is too old to play the part. That role should've gone to someone in their 30s, not Mayrin. Actually Marilu is too young as played by the actress. I would find it more believable if Mayrin was cast as Marilu and Marilu was playing RAQUEL and RAQUEL was playing Oriana/Ines. Cuz the real Ines was in her late 20s. Oriana is a good ten years older than that.

Tks again, y'all. -- I'm wondering if they'll give JL at least one night with Oriana as a would be good guy/tragic hero before he probably gets it in the end from Joquin. I don't like the new dude the ho king sent up there to watch him. He's as much a greaser as Eliserio or whatever his name was the Mike off'd.

Anon 207, Mayrin/Orines is in her 40's...(43 to be exact) I agree she is too old for the role, but she would have made a better Raquel, and the Raquel character would have made a better Orines.
not much difference in their sexy bodys though....

Okay, now that Orines is back at Joe Louis's house....they should sneak down to the Airport, and get the h*ll out of dodge...All three get to the US, and start over...mother,father and daughter.

Leave all the dumba$$e$ behind in Hemosillo... The End.

I've enjoyed MPV as a mystery/crime TN. Mayrin and DZ make an attractive mature couple, but the writers/producers didn't do a good job developing romantic elements. Instead, they've had Ricky acting like a whiny 16 year old always worrying about Ori boinking JL and Ricky regularly saying the words "do you want to make love" instead of putting on sexy moves to get her in the mood. Instead of sexy scenes (and small, simple things like a man running his fingers through a woman’s hair can be sexy), we’ve seen Ori and Ricky staring into a fish tank and Ricky looking silly with wonder at a bell or something in Palomita's play room. In short, I blame the writers/producers.

Niecie- ITA.

Yeah, the writers and producers didn't help, either. We should've known they'd talk down in the romance dept with the first scene with Oriana putting a thin scarf over a light to I set the mood. All I could think was fire hazard and how corny, but I let it slide.

Vivi, thanks for recapping for me on PSMA. Since they are ginsuing the caps, now, whichone ddo I even look up online to recap?

talk, should read 'fall'.

NiecieMD: "and Ricky regularly saying the words "do you want to make love" instead of putting on sexy moves to get her in the mood" double ITSA!
=========
As for Mayrin, she could have fit into the Lucina or the Raquel role for sure.

Did someone here mention that this is being replaced by Quiero Amarte?

Niecie-I completely agree with your assessment of this show. I've enjoyed the crime/mystery part a lot (a lot a lot...even when it got a little perplexing.) Romance...not so much.

While I did feel sorry for JL, I will not be happy if he ends up redeemed.

Excuse the intrusion, but the Producers Novelographies page has been updated to include current and upcoming prime time telenovelas. (And apologies to those who follow more than one tn and see this more than once.)
