Lo Que La Vida Me Robó . Lunes . 4/7/14 #104
Labels: robo
I don't remember if Pedro's memory of the conversation with Loreto is a flashback or not, but it does say one thing: Pedro Medina is not the name he was using 20 years ago.
I particularly like this line the most: "As could have been predicted by a much lesser personage than the Cumaen Sybil, Mayor Medina ordered his brother-in-law to kill Father Anselmo...
Fatima
I for one am happy that Josefina is on her way out of Aguazul and getting a divorce. If she is ever going to eventually get back with Dimitrio in a healthy state she needs to get away from Graciela. Dimitrio should have done a better job in protecting his wife (whom he knew was vulnerable)from that witch of a mother in the first place by getting his own residence.
Ale and Montse were almost like a blah drab background in comparison to the rest of the activity tonight. Their reaction to Carlota's engagement was so underwhelming it was embarrassing. Here's hoping Ezequiel's plan to get evidence and bring down Pedro is successful.
Looks like Montse will be making a final trip to see Angelica. Padre Anselmo could be on his way out too if Adolfo is capable of pulling that trigger.
Should be good!
Jarifa
Do I understand correctly that the disgusting Sandro is going to be handling the details of this divorce? Does this place Fina in danger from this horrible man? Isn't it enough for Fina to have to deal with her abusive brother without having to worry about Sandro as well?
I am very curious about this Tomas/Sandro relationship and why Tomas is blind to this vicious man.
Fatima
I felt so bad for Josefina and Dimitrio. :( And I still don't like Tomas. He just rubs me the wrong way. And I agree Jarifa, hopefully if Fina does go through with the divorce she can come back stronger and get back together with Dimitrio and put Graciela in her place, FINALLY.
And Fatima, Tomas has been an idiot throughout this novela and super arrogant in my humble opinion. Maybe cuz they were friends he can't see the truth?
First the lawyer and now Padre Anselmo? T___T I hope he doesn't get killed. By the look on Adolfo's face he doesn't want to do it. Maybe he can get EZ's help and hide el Padre just like he did with Maria. *fingers crossed*
So Alejandro WAS there at the accident of Pedro, the accident that caused him to lose the whole enchilada, Ouch. I guess this was why Pedro is so insistent on revenge? He want Ale to suffer just as he had.
If Pedro Medina is not his name then I wonder what is it? That one flew over my head. lol
Thank you Urban for a great recap. :)
Veronica
Beautifully written and detailed recap accompanied by a beautiful fan. Thank you!
I too have to agree that I am glad to see Fina out of Gracie's house. The longer she stayed, the more abuse she was going to suffer at Gracie's hands. But I am sad that Fina and Dimi are separated. We were finally getting more scenes with them, only to result in their breaking up. Fina said something about needing and wanting a change. I wonder if this means a makeover for Fina.
About the conversation between Ale & EZ:
When Ale asked why Pedo hated him, EZ said he did not know, but imagined that Pedo must have a very good reason to want to destroy Ale. That since Ale's arrival to Aguazul, Pedo never had any trust in him. Also, Loreto had told EZ that Pedo asked Loreto to do a full investigation on Ale, until they could find even the tiniest detail to use against Ale. That Loreto had found nothing big in the investigation, only that Ale was Benny's illegitimate son. And the worst thing they found was that Ale was involved in an accident, and nothing more. Then Ale goes on to describe the accident. And YES, that was a flashback when Pedo was talking to Loreto and recalling how he came to know that Ale was involved in that accident where he lost his manhood.
I am falling asleep. I must retire to my bedchamber.
Off to bed...hasta pronto!
We now know that Pedo hates Ale because he was involved in the accident where Pedo was mangled. Pedo thinks Ale was the driver.
Ale has no idea that Pedo was the motorcyclist that almost got killed in that accident, or that the accident is the reason Pedo wants to destroy Ale.
So the secret about Pedro is fully revealed. Except Pedro doesn't know that Ale's father and not Ale was driving, right? The English cc's weren't clear on that.
Not that Pedro would care.
Loved your description of Countess Graceless in her military precision.
It looks like Nadia is going to secretly get rid of her pregnancy, or at least is planning to. I'll bet she won't, though.
I didn't go through all of EZ's discussion because the content was already covered in the flashback. But both of those scenes made it clear that Pedro must have been using a different name at the time although we have no idea whether it was his real one or not. I am still of the opinion that he is either from a once-rich or prominent family that fell on hard times and/or that he was rejected by his family after the accident.
That's right; Pedro doesn't know that it was Benjamin who was driving. Alejandro was right about Benjamin's cowardice, as the investigation showed no fault due to the cyclist's actions.
Now we can all speculate on how long it will take for all the cards to be on the table. I wonder if we will get a flashback for Alejandro about how he observed the accident.
Well, guess I thought right. Ale was "involved" in Pedo's accident, but by being with Benjamin and taking the fall for the accident on the report. And Pedro was not his name. Hate when I'm right because this really is a whole different type of hatred than just being jealous, etc.
So Debbie-Downer shows up to do his woe-is-me to the poor happy newlyweds and then leaves. Perfectly good beer wasted. Sucks to be JL. Frankly, sucks to be any good person in this TN.
Case in point,DimFine. I've never liked Tomas and more and more I can see why he is buddies with Sandho. He may not know the guy is a cheat and murderer, but they both have ego's that could stop a truck. Sandho may be more smarmy, Tomas is just mean. I'm hoping that since Fina saw how desperate Dim was, that she will give him a chance to at least talk. Hate hate hate that these two are being manipulated by people like this. And can I say, that in the one scene with her brother and the screen faded to commercial, there was a still shot of Fina that made me catch my breath. She looked absolutely serene and gorgeous. If there is anything positive that comes out of this temporary breakup--and it better be that--she decides to go to work and gain some self-confidence. I want her out from under that brother!
Daisynjay
To others' points about Tomas and Sandho, I am guessing that they are childhood friends who lost track of each other during their school days. Since they haven't seen a lot of each other in recent times Tomas gets a pass for the moment for not seeing what we see about Sandho. We need to hope that whomever Cevera was in touch with in Miami follows up.
I believe that Josefina could be in danger from Sandho's greed. It's not clear at this point whether he knows about the genteel poverty of the Mendozas, but I could easily see him trying to fleece Josefina (so much for his friendship with Tomas) and then recruiting Graceless as his new grifting partner. She is older than Fabiolush, but at least she isn't an alcoholic.
He is also likely planning to fleece Fabiolush out of the inheritance we know she won't ultimately get.
Where are Nadia's parents? I'm beginning to think that they're absent until the actors chosen to play them are available from another novela that's ending.
I felt a tinge of sadness and a slight shiver when I read “He replied that he had hoped that marrying her would help him to forget Lady Monserrat. He had not, despite loving Lady Angelica more and more with each passing day". Sigh. I might be mistaken but I think the character in Amor Real came to love his wife more than Adela (sorry forget that character's name). I thought that might happen here as well.
Huge revelation that Pedro holds Ale responsible for the accident and subsequent disfigurement.
Veronica, I also felt for Fina and Dimitrio. I was further saddened that she went to Tomas to say she wanted a divorce! daisy, I am no fan of Tomas either. Instead of comforting her, his unrestrained glee was sickening. He and Sandro can end up in the same ugly place together. He has berated Fina since the beginning and used bullying and screaming rather than love and kindness as his weapons of choice.
Jarifa and Fatima, perhaps time apart away from each other and Graciela's greedy black-hearted grasp are indeed what is needed.
Jarifa "Ale and Montse were almost like a blah drab background in comparison to the rest of the activity tonight". Yes, ITA.
Poor Carlota. Such unenthusiasm. I was hoping she would realize that the silence spoke volumes but it appeared she did not take the hint.
The previews of Adolfo pointing the gun at the padre were beyond intense and disturbing. I cannot see him pulling the trigger.
Was the only light moment seeing Maria clean while Esme and her colleague chatted. Loved the head scarf. Now, was she wearing rubber gloves? Could we tell? Carlos? :)
Thank you NovelaMaven for a lovely fan and another fantastic summary.

Urban, thanks for the clarification and confirming my worry that Sandho will try to fleece Fina. In some ways, I find Sando to be more vile than Pedro. Pedro has others do his dirty business. Sandho not only does the dirty work himself, he delights in it.
How did he become involved with Fabulush? Has this been made clear or have I missed that along the tortuous road of this TN.
I feel so wishy washy about JL. How in the world can he STILL be thinking about Montserrat while his beautiful wife is dying?
My hope is that Tia Pru will bring LIFE back into Angelica. I, personally, cannot bear to see this character leave. I cling to Fina as the one character who brings hope and life to the TN. The others are just losing me. How sad is it when the main couple is losing my interest?
...and then there is the jerk Tomas. I'm with you, Veronica, this brother has treated his sister so badly. I wonder if he treated her badly since childhood?
Diana, as much as I have enjoyed watching Fina and Dim together, I agree with you that Fina needs to catch a break. She needs to find her inner self and come back stronger than ever. She is surrounded by hyenas (thank you my dear friend, JudyB!!) on all sides.
I was listening to NPR yesterday to "The Business". They were talking about the ending of "How I Met Your Mother". I never saw the show, but what interested me were the comments about the writers. My ears really pricked up as I am ALWAYS (as if you didn't know) wondering about the minds of writers and how they plan (or nor) their stories. The writers for the above show had the story planned for an EIGHT year run! I believe the program ran 9 years. They new the story arc from beginning to end.
What they hadn't accounted for was the added year the show ran. Apparently, it was almost(but not quite) a panic situation and the writers had to go down a path for which they had not prepared. The writers did NOT like having to do this as they didn't want to insert mindless stuff into their well planned story.
Needless to say, I was wondering about the Robo Writers and their plans (or lack thereof). :)
Fatima
Beautiful recap, so marvelously written and I love the fan.
I missed last night, but thanks to your always fantastic recap, I feel like I didn't miss a thing.
Poor clueless Ale! I too agree that Peddy changed his name at some point. He never takes responsibility for anything, so it's not surprising he is blaming Ale for what happened with that accident.
I too think that Sandho and Tomas have known each other some time, probably back to when they were kids as Urban said.
I don't like this divorce with Fina, but then again, if she does that, she gets her lana back and then can do what she wants. I wonder if her aim is to thumb her nose at Tomas once she does and goes straight back to Dimi, just a thought.
Poor Padre, bless his heart, I hope he talks Addled out of killing him, but where could the Padre hide out? Instead of hiding the bodies they are hiding the living!
Thanks again Urban for this sparkling recap.
was wrong in thinking that he was the one driving. As I
recall, my thought was dismissed by UA because
according to her, he would have been too young. At least
I was headed in the right direction. Actually, as a young
teenager, he could have been driving illegally.
Tomas forcibly stopping Dim at the doorway reminded me of back in the day when Dim forcibly stopped JL at the doorway. I'm in the Fina should get a divorce and gain confidence club, before getting back with Dim.
Such a contrast between the scene with Angie and her godmother, whom I tirelessly root for, and Nadia and Monse, whatever. JL, whom I do care about, seems lame to be still fixated on Monse. It makes me not care if Fab takes advantage of him.
Still sure Adolfo will not shoot the Padre. Though Adolfo did fire at Maria, he had the heart to feel awful about it. He is so stupid not to ask EZ for help. EZ does have a functioning brain. As a villain, I’m liking EZ more than Pedro. Pedro is straight up evil and perverse, nothing charming about him. EZ has shades of gray. I can definitely see EZ getting elected and being a model husband to Carlota, while building an evil empire and cheating on her of course.
Yay, Esme said she had other plans for La Escondida.
My assumption that Alejandro was too young was based on the idea that he was 30 in the opening episode; the writers have since decided that he was 32 when the curtain went up, which is enough to make the difference.
I rank Pedro as a more advanced villain (as in closer to hell) because he enjoys the fear generated in others. He's a sadist on every level.
Sandho looks more like someone who would kill as a means to an end rather than as an end in itself. Pedro creates alibis for himself and gets others to do his dirty work so he can't be caught with blood on his hands. He loves how horrible these other people feel in the act of their evil and enjoys corrupting them. The big However in all that, though, is the risk of betrayal or something being botched.
Sandho doesn't take that risk and his motive for murdering Cevera was based on the practical success of his overall scheme. He carried it out coldly and efficiently, not trusting anyone else with the job who could botch it or blackmail him at a later date. As to his level of evil, he's a greed monster who has only committed one murder we know about.
His perversion level is much lower than Pedro's and there are too many items we can't measure. We need more data for a full assessment; we need what Cevera received in that e-mail.
I thought that María was stunning in the simple white tee shirt with jeans and headscarf. No gloves, Diana, although she would be well-advised to use them. She didn't have a single line but her expression clearly indicated that she wasn't having a good time.
I don't see how Padre Anselmo gets out of this alive unless someone shows up to rescue him. Too bad.
So Nadia is going for an abortion? Much better to abort Pedro.
Carlos
Sandho - medium anvil, depending on future antics. Gets the life in jail type pehaps?
Pedro - Mega-size anvil. He deserves a heavy dose of public humiliation plus something extra special with a cherry on top when he meets his maker. Jail is too easy of a cop out for him.
and I'll ad EZ - depending what he may do to Carlotta, he can either go the way of jail time and then redemption, or he will suffer the wrath of the patio for being a power grubbing dweeb too and hurting that innocent, gullible woman.
Mads - I absolutely love your idea about Fina.
daisynjay
Why does Angelica want to talk to Monse before she dies? Hereby predicting that she will tell Monserrat that she will leave her money in her will to compensate for the money that was stolen from Dimitrio who stole it from Adolfo who stole it from Alejandro. That is money Alejandro will need for a new lawyer when Fabiolush makes a move on his inheritance.
"gave light", he should have said "Hell no, there were lots of us there and I have the names locked up in a safety deposit box of those still alive. Anything else you want to know"?
Tomas was consoling Fina a touch too long for comfort. My "creep" radar started pinging during those scenes.
However, at the rate Graceless spends money and the rate at which Dimitrio used to lose it at the tables I can easily see how the first cache could have disappeared during Monserrat's pregnancy along with whatever they got for the hacienda.
We still can't discount the idea that Graceless stole all of it and put it in an offshore account somewhere that nobody knows about.
I hope Fina gets divorced, works and finds out who she is. Also, hope she gets a complete 'do-over' to let her beauty shine through. Then I'd like to see her pursued and wooed by Dimitrio in the way she deserves, before getting back with him.
I too think Tomas is a jerk. I feel slight pity for him, because he may have had to be the parent/s for both of them at any early age. Something he clearly didn't know how to do and is repeating old behaviors. If Fina does grow and change, it will help him to do the same.
It's a novela - one can dream.

As to the new discovery of Pedro's motive, well, as a revenge plot I guess it works. As an expert in opera you would know better than any of us that a revenge plot has legs. I am not sure it can take us another 80 or so capitulos, but we will see.
I was delighted for you that Angelica did not pass on your watch.
Thanks again Urban, for the beautiful retelling of last night's episode. I always look forward to your recaps. Once again this one was better than the actual episode. Take a bow!
Smile.

Carlos, I was thinking about Malria as I cleaned the toilets this weekend. I wasn't wearing a scarf. Also, I read an article in our local paper about men scheduling vasectomies to recuperate during March Madness. madness, no ?
You wrote:
"She taunted him with the news that his ugly wife had caught him kissing the beautiful Lady Virginia. He appeared to realize fully in that moment that she had spent his childhood alienating him from the affections of others, starting with his father."
Your writing here is poignant, Urban. This made me sad as I read it. Dimitrio has been a scoundrel and has a long way to go to clean up his act but his mother has a lot to answer for in how he grew into such a creature.
It is interesting to remember that Dimmy had a gambling problem. He is always placing bets that his risky behavior will not be found out or have consequences. He should have never allowed Virginia to corner him in a quiet corner of the garden.
Elna June
I thought of you as soon as EZ said the word 'accident' in his conversation with Alejandro. Wow! Impressive prediction!
[Anon -- props to you too!]
Urban, thanks so much for the beautifully crafted recap. (Maybe I heard wrong, but I had the impression that Ben Almonte had the accident report redacted so that the victim's name didn't appear at all.)
Diana, while I would love to take credit for the gorgeous fan, I'm really more of a hat gnome myself.
Jarifa and Fatima, I think you are on the right track about Dim and Josefina. A divorce and distance might be just what they need.
Me, I am comforted by small homely details in what is becoming an increasingly ghastly gothic story. So I liked hearing Esmeralda telling CinderMaría to change the water in her bucket -- there's no point in mopping the floor with dirty water!
I giggled at the faces everyone was making around the Almonte dinner table while Carlota beamed not quite obliviously.
And I just loved Dimitrio's STELLA!!! moment as he stood at the door and bellowed Josefina's name.
[You take your pleasure where you find it, right?]

I was wondering last night why Pedro was so determined to get Ale's property that he was willing to kill innocent people (this was after seeing the previews for tonight's ep). Then I scanned the comments to last night's ep and it makes perverted Pedro sense if he thinks Ale was responsible for his "short comings". Side note: really Alpo, if Pedro thought you killed Maria it only makes sense he would make you his hit man. Duh!
Anita: I've become totally hooked on DQTQTQ! Love it!
Nanette
Ghastly is the perfect word to describe this story.
If those show runners kill off Father Anselmo I will, I will, well, I will NEVER buy those butt lifting leggings that are advertised (on the West Coast) every night on the show. AND, I will never watch 'Sal y Pimenta'. So there. Hah!
EJ
I wonder who is going to be the person who reads that file and concludes that Pedro's revenge is about this accident. I wonder what details are in that file.
Nanette- Thanks for the (maybe) final HPLP list!
Looks like the writers are going to weave intricate back stories for some of these characters to keep the action going. Time will tell how successful they are.
I'm glad Fina is taking a break from Dim and his evil mama. Time for her to step out on her own and build her self confidence. I will miss her sweet chemistry with Dim, but it's not like the writers were taking advantage of that even when they were happy and showing it to us. We only got tiny little peeks at them.
"If those show runners kill off Father Anselmo I will, I will, well, I will NEVER buy those butt lifting leggings that are advertised (on the West Coast) every night on the show."
Whoa. Them's fighting words! (Hey, they show them in the Midwest too. Pompis everywhere need a little help, I guess.)
Nanette:
Oh man! I've just gotten hooked on your lists and now they're going away. Ok. I'll stop whining and just say thank you for today's lists and those in the past. When a plot gets as convoluted as this one, an LPHP break-down is immensely helpful.
I do hope you keep commenting here even if you take a much-deserved break from the famous lists.
[You take your pleasure where you find it, right?]" - loved it!
Nanette: Thank you for the list!!! Such a treat.
Diana
Susanlynn, Monday is my day to clean bathrooms and I too thought of Maria (and Carlos) as I did my weekly swabbing and scrubbing with Comet. Go team!
Nanette, we will miss your lists. They are part of what makes this community special. But you should not force yourself if this story is becoming unbearable in its darkness. In fact, there are so many grim moments, that I actually enjoyed Carlotta's radiant joy last night. Yes, it's illusory and will be short-lived no doubt, but dang it, she's over the top happy right now and I'm glad to see it.
Happy that Montse can take the whole day off to shepherd Nadia through an abortion. If she really wanted to stop her, she should have brought her own baby along (yes, she has one! though we seldom see them together). Looking at a real live infant is one powerful deterrent to deciding to end the life of your own.
Actually, I agree with all of you that Nadia won't actually go through with it. I don't think they have ever shown a villain going through with an abortion; so I can't imagine they would have a "good" character do something like that.
Thanks Urban for the recap and the lovely fan; Nanette for the lists, and everyone for your interesting comments. This page is always a treat.
However I have to say that I am actually getting offended at the criticism of heroines who aren't obsessed with their babies to the exclusion of all else. That's how this is starting to feel.
Monserrat has a loving suegra, tia, and two female servants to help her with her son. That's many more than many women have and that's a lucky baby to have six adults to look after him (Fabiolush doesn't count). Not all women become mothers to the exclusion of themselves and we hope that most don't ignore their friends in time of need, especially when they have people they can count on.
I agree that Nadia will likely change her mind. I also can't recall any novela character having an abortion, even a villana. Not even Merry Piece of LFdD, and she was the most likely one to do so on the basis of her other behavior.
What a treat! Thanks for the lists. Hopefully this TN will interest you again, and we will all be privy to your recapping hi/low lists.
I am a bit concerned about Nadia and Montse's trip to Mexico City. Why did Nadia mention the time of her appointment and the time if their return flight? Maybe something will happen to them or in Aguazul while they are out of town.
I have a bad feeling about the Padre's fate tonight. Angie might outlive him. I am worried because Fofito did pull the trigger on BM. When he thought his life was on the line, he almost became a murderer. I would hate his first true victim to be Padre A.
I think we are to assume that when Montse is not on screen, she and Rosy and looking after Laurito.
Back to work...hasta pronto!
Since the matter of Pedro's empty tool box is being raised again we know that this secret is now as fragile as his ego. Somebody is going to find out verrrrry soon.
Nanette
Besides Tomas almost "pawing" his sister in the process of his type of consolement, how could that angry bookworm fight off a young guy from the Navy without a weapon?
Doesn't the Mexican Nay have basic training?
Fatima: I agree with you about Pedro. As my Criminal Minds guys would say-the accident was his "trigger".
I'm afraid Dim will falter once Fina leaves. He'll be vulnerable to Virgie the Vamp in the Making. He's just recently cleaned up his act. Easy for him to go to back to his bad boy ways.
Maybe Angie will have a remission like Lea Thompson did in The Substitute Wife. Only I hope Ange gets pregnant and stays with us for awhile.
Nanette, please don't feel guilty at all. Good heavens, this TN has not made it easy for a few of us (moi, guilty as charged).
I know these writers do this to us. These months of never ending depressing stuff. It's hard to stay engaged in the "story" (wait, there is a story, right?"), but if they kill of the good Padre, I can only imagine how many more nasty characters they are planning to bring on the scene.
It's a long way to August (sung to the tune: "It's a Long Way to Tipperary"). Heaven help those writers.
Fatima
It has an interesting style, that's for sure!
