Lo que la Vida me Robo #116, 4/23/14: The plane crashed. There are no survivors.
Labels: robo
I agree with you totally about José-Luis. What a guy. I can remember those early capitulos when I didn't like him or the actor at all, but he has evolved into being my favorite on the show. He even seems more handsome now that he ever used to.
It will be interesting to see what happens next on this show!
Thanks again, Eli. It's always fun to read your work.
Loved,
"Jose Luis agrees (oooo look between the two of them they finally have a brain cell that works," That was a shocker, right, that they were actually able to put two and two together for once!
You're right, we all need a hug out on the Patio.
I was very surprised that they notified everyone of Ale's death by that "montage" of scenes, racing over three months. I mean, if they need to stretch this out until August, you would think they would have milked these notification scenes for all they're worth.
The fact that they didn't makes me suspicious that those cast members may be written back in later. That and the fact no bodies were found.
Also loved, "Honey, if your parents knew how horrible you are they would do one of two things (1) put you up for adoption AGAIN or (2) change their names to something ridiculous and move to Idaho."
So agree. WOW, apples never fall from the tree, she is so like her mother, Graciela, it will be interesting when they reveal that.
I feel cheated I didn't get to see Maria's full reaction. That was the only good thing to look forward to-and they blew it. I swear, I'm going to sell the Univision stock, they're going down the drain if they can't figure that out!
I do like your dead chicken theory. I was upset by the chicken scene. Heck, even Perdue was upset by the chicken scenes.
"she probably has to go to the town orphanage to set orphans on fire, or maybe the local animal rescue to kill kittens"
" his chickens are in the witness protection program"
"first she gets shot and then her husband has to flee with out her AND she has Graciela as a mother. Life is so unfair"
Coffee was safely parked this morning!
I will add that my Dim buttons were bursting last night - love the sibling love and support and that zinger to his mother about no one wanting to live with her. Loved that look on her face. The Dim table was so happy last night.
I rather liked the voice over and summary reactions to the deaths. The montage seemed to spell out who really will be meeting the Anvil Army as we progress.
So is Pedo smoozing up to Amalia as another possible money'd mate. My guess is she must have some pretty decent money of her own and some still garnered from holdings with her marriage. We all know he needs that image of a happy family. Run woman!
Anyone else sort of left head scratching with Maria? Is it the actress? I really expected more from her in the death announcement, and her descent into further denial and madness came off a little lame. My disappointment of the night.
Adolfo, yeah he loved his sister, but his weakness aided and abetted those who harmed her, so I'm hoping this makes him our main antagonist to haunt Pedo another day. Sounds like he's leaving our screens for awhile too.
Fabs is just disgusting and someone give that Lt. a better pair of shoes. First, wouldn't be walking around in spikey heels, but those darn things squeak and click ridiculously. Makes her almost comical as she moves around.
The lack of bodies is adding up. So who will we see first? Padre or Ale?
Daisynjay
Best line in a great write-up.
I was also disappointed in Maria's reaction but I was also disappointed that Esmeralda didn't make more of it. By now she should be wanting to have her out of there. Maria's "delusion" about Alejandro being alive is the reason she still holds the will.
Since I am not worried about Alejandro being dead I will go on about the rest:
Gracie has now assured her place in hell. My current hope is that she ends up on a deserted island alone where she will commit suicide.
Pleased to see that JL and Refugio have their brains back. Pity that Adolfo still can't put two and two together and figure out that Maria shot Monserrat. He should contact Capitan Robledo to tell him where Maria is and that she has the will.
Agree that the spike heels don't match the uniform on Monica. However I found the scene with her, Zulema, and Esmeralda amusing when the latter two thought her uniform a unique idea for a stripper. And Zulema's disappointment when she realized they were wrong. I have a story about that (slightly OT):
A long time ago (before the current anti-sexual harassment rules) former colleague of mine worked at a large company before we worked together and on her boss's birthday they ordered a Strip-o-Gram for him. The stripper arrived in a business suit with a briefcase in hand, posing as a job candidate. Everyone in the office was aware of this and hung out just outside his office where the door was slightly ajar. The stripper opened the briefcase, which contained the tape recorder with the music, and got to work. The entire department started laughing.
The boss was so embarrassed he blew up at the entire floor. They never did this again.
"Sandro whose last name i can't be bothered to learn", "Pedro tells Adolfo that he's going to send him to work up north-he will be allowed to come back once he has ripped his soul out of his body and can load a gun and kill a man without crying..." were only a few of my favorites although I agree that the other lines already noted were fantastic as well.
I was also horrified that Pedro seems to have found his next target - Amelia. Like you Julia, I am so afraid for her! However, Amelia and Nadia could not be more differnt. Although he may have temporarily wormed his way into her good graces, I fervently hope she has been through too much to be fooled for very long. She appears to be far too intelligent and savvy to fall victim to him.
I believe Adolfo has a major part yet to play. While it is likely too late for redemption, he is currently one of the only two people to have physical evidence against Pedro (EZ of course, the other). He has leverage and I would not be surprised for him to sacrifice his life to save someone else ere this is through. Complete speculation - no spoiler.
I also like the unconditional love and support between most of the women here. Esme and Angelica, Nadia and Monse and now, Esme and Monse. Esme has a kind heart and compassion and those who are deemed to be her friends are blessed.
Conversely, it's interesting that Graciela, Maria and Fab seem to have no friends. Unless of course you count the evil and malice that live in their hearts.
Emarie, I also was upset by the dead chickens (which Judy noted right away the other morning). Love Eli's theory that the chickens are in the witness protection program!
daisy "someone give that Lt. a better pair of shoes". Yes, as already noted they seem totally inappropriate (and very uncomfortable). The Lt. appeared to soak in Esme and her place of work with obvious distaste. I thought it was quite clear she thinks Refugio married beneath him.
UA, thank you for your story!
Gobluefan, a double cheeseburger? Wow! Good for Monse!
The good padre's presence would be most welcome right now.
Julia, I was so glad to see your comments on JL. I was a fan early and although disappointed periodically, he remains one of my favorites as well.
Eli, thank you so much for the fine recap.
Diana
All I can is that the writers impressed me with this episode. I loved the way they showed everyone's reaction to the presumed death of the Ale, Vic and Nadia. Graciela was particularly despucable with her smirk. I also loved how they jumped ahead three months. It was particularly obnoxious that Montse's marriage was annuled. I was impressed that JL was going to make sure that Montse would get the money with interest but without the knowledge that he was involved in its return. Pedro insinuating himself into Amelia's life was so creepy as well as Maria's continued annoying existence and aspirations to be a pole dancer. Another creeper was Fabiola just cannot waiting to take control of the property. Dimitrio was at his best telling Graciela that nobody wanted to live with her. With tonight's episode I have high hopes for the remainder of this telenovela.
Jarifa
The stupid judge wasn't in this episode but in a real legal system he'd be thrown off the bench and disbarred for what happened here. Two key witnesses suddenly disappear, another ends up dead in an arson situation, and the DNA issue is not handled under the appropriate supervision? Does this judge know nothing about inflection and body language? He's not even remotely suspicious of what's happened to those witnesses?
Or is he just as afraid of Pedro as Adolfo is?
I didn't mention earlier, and Eli you touched on it briefly, but I was a little bummed with Rosario last night. Can't put my finger on it, but let's just say it made me so happy to see Esme show up. Someone Monse's age who can be there for her and who perhaps can let her talk about how she's feeling without a vested interest. Only having Rosario I don't think is healthy for her. And thank you Esme for pulling her out of the Maricruz CI rant of "I should have died with him"-- you have a son!!! Hello!!??!! Hope that's the last we hear that line.
Shall we speculate what kind of "business" Monse may start? Have a feeling that line was thrown out there for a reason. Maybe this will start the fulfillment of my dream--Fina comes back, and Women Power takes over with Esme now in the mix. Pedo may really have met his match then.
Daisynjay
Josefina is a good cook and Monse can learn from Esmeralda about business. Carlota and Rosario can join them and when Fabiola fires Dominga she can join them, too.
Pedro pursuing Amelia is just too disgusting for words. He has reached the worst level of perversion yet: He killed her husband! Ordering the man to commit suicide or his family will suffer is the same as pulling the trigger himself. This woman will need a shrink once she knows that.
Thanks so much for this really great recap and your theory about the chickens, I do like that theory ; )
I did like that scene with Lt Monica, Esme and Zulema! Such confusion and so funny really.
I am glad the briefcase has been in evidence all this time and is now going back to Monse, with JL paying the interest. He is a man of honor.
These writers did a really good job with filming the scenes of everyone finding out about the plane crash and that all on board are assumed dead. The reactions of each character were very well done, even BSC Maria's. We all just knew she was round the bend anyhow. Even Addled's face showed true pain and regret and even EZ looked stunned. The whole Maria scene with Zulema was so spot on with BSC Maria in very great denial about Ale. Peddy's and Graceless reactions were right on target. We even had a three month time jump.
I just knew Fablush wants to throw Monse and Rosy out of that house and Fablush could care less about the hacienda. Is Sandho going to manage that or is Peddy, I wonder? It is a money maker and what about the factory in Aguazul?
Amelia hasn't a brain in her head. Too bad Tia Pru isn't closer to there, she'd wake her up.
I like how El Capitan is still running theories with Refugio and JL and how he is keeping JL in the loop about the case and what happened to Ale. I think if El Capitan could have found a way to keep JL out of the prison he would have, but what bothers me is that he should be in the Navy Brig and not in the prison, cause the crime he "committed" was under the jurisdiction of the Navy, and being a member of the Navy at the time of the "crime" he should have been serving Brig time and then drummed out. That's the way it really works. I still wonder if JL is undercover in some way.
Now Fablush trying to find her real parents. This should be interesting.
Thanks again Eli for the most fabulous recap.
Fab and Sandho ,they are disgusting as ever. Maria gone to crazy as bonkers. The entire episode was sad ,depressing and crazy ,as always.. We will all need a good psychiatrist once this TN ends! Watching Por Siempre to get a laugh out of Farts stupydity!
Lt.Monica reminded me of Terminator :)
I want Nadia to have her baby, but I don't know that Ale or Victor have had any experience birthing calves or foals. Victor was a factory manager and I bet ole Benny had Ale doing the dirtiest jobs to be found, either mucking stables or working as a field hand. BTW, what happened with his "away" education? It doesn't seem to have served him very well except learning good table manners.
Something about Adolfo's change in character makes me muse back to the beginning. He was a confident confidence man, smooth-talking gad-about, in control of his life and at the top of his game, enjoying his status with a good wing-man.
Now, someone else has taken control of his life, is not treating him well--under threat of bodily harm--and his wing-man has gone over to the other side. He's alone and scared, but allying himself with Maria doesn't jive. Did he really think giving her the will would make it safe...he should have buried it and drawn a map and had it tattooed on his butt. As pretty as he his, Nadia can get along without him at the end of the novela.
The voice-over death announcements were an interesting treatment, but I agree, we should have been able to witness their reactions in real time. At first I thought something was wrong with the sound.
I was also aggravated by the sudden switch to Monse and Rosy at home. She looked pretty well for having just gotten out of the hospital. THEN it was revealed that this was a couple of weeks later, then it suddenly became a couple of months later. Are we going to see Laurito learning to walk?
Adolfo is certainly the dullest knife in this drawer. I'm sure my new male Muse will help me think of a half dozen good ways to say that in weeks to come.
I liked the acceleration of time and voiceover for the death announcements. Macario can say so much with few words. Agree, Adolfo should hate himself cause he's to blame right along with Pedro. Strange, last night I found Adolfo more handsome than ever.
Amalia is so vulnerable after all her losses and doesn’t have someone close by right now. I wished she’d gone on the trip with Ginny and stayed with Tia Pru for awhile.
I thought it was quite clear she [Monica] thinks Refugio married beneath him.
Diana, I agree. In truth, Esme is not the ideal officer’s wife and Monica’s reaction to Esme is a lot more realistic than Robledo’s congratulating Refugio on his wife owning an exotic dance club where men go to get the ya-yas. I like Esme and know she’s the best thing for Refugio cause she loves him, but it bugs me that she doesn’t get how this affects him in his work. Dim said to Esme the other day (well, months ago now) that she married a jealous man, but that’s not really it. Refugio doesn’t get into fights with that Navy punk cause he’s jealous. He gets into fights with him cause he insults his wife.
Oh, I agree with you about those shoes. In that uniform, she would not be wearing heels at all, but a nice sensible pair of flat, dress shoes.
ITA w/Daisynjay's comment on Esme & Montse. Why do writers think its romantic when one parent claims they no longer want to live when his/her spouse leaves them? You have children/infants dependent on you so pull yourself together.
If Fab gives Graceless nothing, will the evil mother recant her statement or is it too late for that?
Diana & Niecie thanks for your insights on Esme, Monica, and Refugio. ITA w/you both.
Love that the padre's chickens may be in the witness protection program. I can just imagine them happily free-ranging as they peck at hapless bugs and cluck their adventure to their neighbor poultry.
I don't mind María's further descent into madness, I just wish she had more opportunity to display her acting abilities and a better outfit to do it in. I'm rather liking the red lipstick but could we ditch that hideous blond wig? After all, she's losing her mind, not her fashion consciousness.
I enjoyed Lt. Renteria's visit to La Escondida and the confusion that ensued. The levity was much needed. I predict that before this is all over we shall see her dancing with a pole at La Escondita. Zulema, Esme, and I recognized the potential and I think that she has already entertained the thought.
I'm wondering if Rosario, now that she has been dethroned as queen mother, will revert to wearing peasantwear and lower heels?
Carlos
JL has turned into an official saint now.
I am hoping that Adolfo now turns into one of the good guys, does he deserved to be saved, NO, but I'm hoping he starts working against EZ and Pedro now.
I must say, the actor that plays Pedro is so good at being slimy and despicable.
And is Graciela expecting half of the inheritance for lying to the judge? No wondering she was smiling when Ale was pronounced dead. Evil, evil. She really doesn't give a care about Montse. She only cries for herself.
Poor JL. Not fair if he marries Mons then loses her all over again when Ale shows up (which I’m assuming he will).
I know we thought Monica might be for JL but if she thinks, like Diana commented, that Esme is not good enough for Ref then she’s not good enough for JL.
Cheers to Dim for not going off the rails when Fina left.
I do not want to see Amelia—who may have started out being a witch, but is now one of my favs—be taken in by Pedro.
In the previews, did Gracie delete Ale’s message? I thought she wanted Mons to marry JL once he became rich. That message would exonerate him. Or has Mons accepted him? Didn't see the ep--yet.
Nanette
I have to admit, I almost peed myself when I read:
"Graciela also excuses herself, she probably has to go to the town orphanage to set orphans on fire, or maybe the local animal rescue to kill kittens."
"SET ORPHANS ON FIRE"????
Thanks for starting my morning off with a smile! :-)
I think María had to wear her black corset and blonde wig all through this episode as the Through the Looking Glass counterpart of Montserrat's grieving widow (including the wild grief followed by disbelief). KEN is missing, and BARBIE and BARBARELLA are mourning in weirdly parallel synchrony.
Loved "We start tonight's episode with Pedro 'no nuts Medina', Fabiola "boozy" Guillen and Sandro whose last name i can't be bothered to learn" Yes I hate them too! What vultures! Pedro probably wants to keep the hacienda to continue his drug growing, but I don't see Fab and Sandro running the factory. They will probably ruin the business, spend all the money and leave nothing for Ale when he returns. I really hope Monster uses the money she is getting back wisely to build a future for herself and her family.
I also hope it doesn't take years for Ale to return. I hate storylines where one of the parents misses seeing their kid grow up. Its just not right!

Now Eli, thanks for allowing me to dream that the chickens are in the Witness Protection program, and those sad little creatures were just a collection of feathers in the chicken coop. Actually I'm sure they WERE just a collection of feathers, but still, the THOUGHT of those innocent chickens starving to death, bewildered and desperate, just chilled my heart. (It's just a story, just a story!)
And since it is just a story, I'm assuming Alejandro and company will be back some day, so I didn't get very emotional about the grieving scenes.
Glad though that someone else has noted how ridiculous and unbelievable it is that the Lieutenant Tight Ass would wear heels with her uniform. Just silly.
Eli,you did a crackerjack job of handling this miserable episode with a ton of humor. Beholden to ya', darlin'.
And UA, loved the story about the stripper. My class hired a stripper for me a few decades ago for a birthday party. So sorry that boss didn't have the wisdom to laugh and enjoy the joke. Jeez!
Right after Monse is shot Refugio and JL in the presence of the Captain discuss the likely culprit and they conclude its Maria. And the Captain says he will look into finding this woman. But lo and behold, the writers still have crazy Maria in the blond wig working at the club and going on about how Ale will come to see her -- even three months after the plane crash. Refugio's wife runs the place and she must talk to her husband to know that Maria is a wanted suspect in the shooting of Monse. But the search for Maria has stopped as well. Continuity from the writers please.
I won't believe they are dead if they don't find the bodies (unless the Gran Por Fin comes and goes and they still haven't turned up; then I guess I would believe they died). I think Ale at the very least has washed up on the beach in some remote place.
But YAY, I'm so glad that suitcase of money has returned. I hope Montse will use it to build a good business, but my hopes are not terribly high. She already had one chance to do that when she sold her hacienda, but she (and her familia) just frittered that money away in a matter of months. Maybe thinking Ale is actually dead and there is no backup plan, plus being super over even pretending her mother deserves anything, will catalyze a change in her?
I like that Dim hasn't reverted to his past behaviors since Josefina left. A little late, but it seems like he has finally grown up. I want to see what Fina's been up to all this time. I hope she's been doing something that will give her solid self-esteem.
Hate to say it, I know parents like that. Kids turned 18, and that's all she wrote. Occasional card or Christmas visit tops.
So is we're to make any progress with the triangle, getting Monse into some sort of job, and new relationships forming, my guess is we get another jump soon. I can't see them belaboring everyone mourning and moaning, and I don't think JL would move in on Monse that fast, and it's only a couple months after Angie too...have to move it forward.
But I do agree, if they are, there had better had been some progress on the nailing Maria front.
Daisynjay
We've never heard Addled or Nadia talk to each other about their parents neither bad nor good, just nothing, ever. Obviously they are unimportant to the siblings, so they should remain unimportant to us. (Perhaps the Televisa budget just couldn't take two more adults interfering in the lives of adult children to dress, feed, write dialog and keep around between scenes?)
OR--They have joined the chickens in the Witness Protection Program.
I had naively thought that by the time I came back from vacation, things would have started to improve a bit in Agua Azul. Foolish, I know. :)
Like most, I'm 100% sure that the writers did NOT kill the golden goose (Ale/SR) like they did the chickens, so I can't be too sad about that. I'm hoping that Nadia and Victor also lucked out. I am curious to see where they take the story from here-- time jumps, romances, relationships, marriages, and careers/businesses. Given the way Monse squandered her hacienda inheritance from Lauro, I'm not too hopeful about how she'll use the money she'll get back. But she really has no choice but to get her crap together and make it work this time.
All of the ladies here are so jealous of Lieutenant Renteria. So what if she wears heels with her uniform. She can pull it off!
She is a harsh beauty, though; she definitely has dominatrix tendencies.
So how can I get a hold of her? I want her to walk on my back in them heels!
Which I hope they find in the ultimas semanas.
Totally agree that Esmeralda needs to find another career if Refugio is to be fast-tracked to the Officers' Club.
Macario, early on, voiced my reaction: "I don't know what to think anymore with all these ugly things that are happening." I'm sure we'll see some things shake out later that will undo some of the bad stuff.
Loved your take on Graci's leisure time activities and your theory of the chickens in a protection program. Also Maria being re-adopted.
It gives me a sense of vicious satisfaction to refer to Pedro as "no-nuts." I think Jarifa's new word, dispucable, applies to him. He's so despicable, he makes one want to puke.
I was satisfied with the pace of this episode and the montage of death notices/reactions. Anxious to begin the shift to the reshuffled life in Aguazul, but feeling worried if Amalia is Pedro's new target.
Maricruz
OT :On a personal note for those who are interested, Mr. June and I have just discovered that we must move house and things are all at sixes and sevens in the June family.
More later.
Thanks again, Eli.
EJ
I'm all for adding "despucable" to the "no-nuts" sobriquet for Pedro. Like Paloma, every time he appears on screen I want to puke.
Susanlynn, who really does not want to think about puking since the three-year-old got sick just as I was serving Easter dinner......
Thanks, Eli. This show is giving me a headache. I am losing interest in everyone. However, I must admit that Malria looks good as a blonde. Is she having more fun as a blonde?
OT
Amiga, how time flies when we are having fun! It has actually been three years since Mr June and I moved to this house.
The peculiar combo of events this time around involves folks changing their minds, aging backs and STAIRS, and the vicissitudes of the real estate market.
In our Northern California town of some 59,000 persons there are only 150 properties of any kind on the market right now.
It is sheer madness trying to find somewhere to live.
Miracles are quite welcome at our house, but, in absence of such, we are trying to do everything possible to figure out a sane, positive and peaceful way forward.
Thanks for your note and support, dear JudyB. Smile. Luckily for this recapper 'Robo' is such a wacky merry-go-round right now that it serves as something of a distraction from real life's crazy events.
EJ
But it is SUPER weird that Refugio and JL haven't mentioned to Esme that they think Maria shot Montserrat. I don't think Esme would protect her from the consequences of that. Esme and Montse are friends.
I didn't hate the death notification montage, (I'm usually grateful for it in a TN that usually stretches funerals into several episodes) It just is strange in a story where they are looking to stretch out the story for months that they are taking 3 months and compressing it. ??? Don't get it.
Hmm, a Sailor is married to a stripper. Is that really such a stretch of the imagination?
NovelaMaven: "I think María had to wear her black corset and blonde wig all through this episode as the Through the Looking Glass counterpart of Montserrat's grieving widow (including the wild grief followed by disbelief). KEN is missing, and BARBIE and BARBARELLA are mourning in weirdly parallel synchrony."-Hysterical.
I am guessing that Adolfo and Nadia's parents are deceased. The typical TN story would have it turn out that Pedro killed them when they didn't approved of his marriage to Nadia and made it look like an accident. Are they still alive, anyone really know-or are they really just "abroad?"
JudyB-"Lieutenant Tight Ass" Brilliant!
Oxnard Huero-"She is a harsh beauty, though; she definitely has dominatrix tendencies.
So how can I get a hold of her? I want her to walk on my back in them heels!" so funny.
EJ-Que? So sorry!
Extremely busy at work and still here. ( I work nights). I know Ale can't be dead. No spoiler here. But I am not sure about Nadia and Vic. I hope they survive too.
I hope Amelia wakes up and realizes what Peddy is up to. I would hate to see her married to him.
I have a feeling about tonight's epi. I think there will be another time jump, but this time a longer period of time. In the previews I thought I heard Dimi telling Montse that JL was getting out of prison. And if I remember correctly, JL had a 7 year sentence. Unless his sentence was reduced.
Sorry I was so late to comment Eli. Thanks again for your most excellent recap.
Back to work...hasta pronto!
