Lo Que La Vida Me Robó, #126, 5-7-2014: Even blind, I'd know that unfortunate mustache anywhere!
Pedro returns to wreak havoc in Nadia's life; Josefina returns to discombobulate DIM; Ale's recovery continues, but his desperation grows.
Lo refrito #1: Gracie gives a performance worthy of a write-in campaign for a nomination as best actress at the TV y Novela Premios as she talks about how sad and lonely she feels over the loss of her children's love.

Mansion Mendoza-Basurto, Agua Azul, Mexico: Gracie continues with her attempt at conciliatory speech-making. She claims that all she has ever wanted was the best for her family, though she admits that what she thinks they want is not necessarily what they need. The others seem skeptical, but she is either oblivious or not bothered and goes on anyway. She says she'll do whatever it takes to return to their good graces and that for her their happiness is worth any price:
If she has to accept that loser ex-marinero José-Luis, she will.
She also really wants to support DIM in his new relationship with er….
"What your name, sweetheart?" Gracie asks Dim's female guest.
"Monica," says Captain Monica Rentería, surprisingly quietly for someone used to giving orders. (As a military woman, though, she seems to comprehend and accept Gracie's natural authority.)
"Ah, yes--Monica!" Gracie says brightly. Gracie wants to accept DIM and Monica, too. Graciela then gives a series of the usual TN maternal platitudes, though delivered with her unique hypocritical panache: They can count on her support. A mother's love is infinite. She will fight for her children's forgiveness. She ask for another opportunity, which they can't deny her. She loves them with all her soul.
She draws both DIM and Montse in close for an awkward-looking family hug to end the scene.
Back in Buenos Aires, Pedro watches Nadia and is now starting to realize that she is blind and has no idea he's in the room. He plays some ominous-sounding notes on the piano. Nadia gets nervous and immediately asks, "Who's there?" but he doesn't say anything. Nadia thinks it might be Victoria playing the piano and calls out for her, but then Victoria rushes in from her bedroom and declares she didn't do it. Nervous, Nadia tells Victoria to run to her arms, but before she can, Pedro grabs Victoria and forces her to smell something on a handkerchief which conveniently knocks her out cold.
Nadia can sense that something awful has happened. Searching for Victoria, Nadia runs into Pedro instead and reaches out to touch his face, and, as her hands go over his features--that awful mustache and signature ocular fashion--comprehension dawns on her, and Nadia realizes her wretched, evil husband has found her at last. Before she can do or say anything, though, Pedro gives Nadia a big golpe in the face, and she falls down, unconscious.
"It's good you're not dead, Nadia" he declares, standing over her crumpled body. "You're going to find out what it's like to lose what you love most in your life."
In Mexico, the extended Mendoza family are having dinner together post Gracie's performance. Carlotta asks about the date of Montse and J-L's wedding, but Montse says they haven't spoken about that yet. J-L says he wants it to be as soon as possible and suggests they go to the church tomorrow to sort things out. Montse says she only wants something simple and that they can talk about it later as the doorbell rings. DIM says he'll go get it.
He opens the front door to find his ex-wife and the sometime great love of his life, Josefina.
In Buenos Aires, Pedro has tied up Nadia to a chair. Work finished, he makes a call and to inform his partner in crime, Carlos, that he (Pedro) has got his daughter and wants to know if the fake documents are ready (they are!) so that he can take her out of the country since he needs to fly back to Mexico as soon as possible. Pedro picks up the still unconscious Victoria and carries her out of the house.
Garden of Mansion Mendoza-Basurto: DIM is surprised at seeing Josefina and wants to know what she's doing there. "Can I come in?" she asks, but he doesn't answer and instead moves outside to talk to her, commenting that he hardly recognized her. She claims she's not here to look for him--she's here for other reasons. "What reasons?" he wants to know. She says she would prefer not to tell him.
Now, he becomes indignant that she has come to his house to interrupt him at this hour and won't tell him why. She finally says she needs to find Rosario. Josefina just found out that Alejandro died and that Montserrat was shot. She worries that things must be bad for Rosario and Lauro and wants to help them economically.
But DIM doesn't seem to buy this excuse and also seems offended, too. He tells Josefina that it's been too long--years have passed! He's not sure why she has the impulse to help now, but if she wants to feel good about herself to give her money to charity. They're all fine without her. She isn't needed in this house.
In the Mendoza-Basurto dining room, Gracie rolls her eyes as she listens to Basurto and Carlotta talking about their love for each other and how great Carlotta's cooking is. Radar ever-alert to the movements of her favorite child, Gracie comments that her bebé, DIM, is taking a long time to answer the door. She deigns to notice DIM's female guest a second time and asks, "What's you're name again, sweetie? Don't you think you should go and see what's happening with your novio?
Josefina and DIM continue their awkward conversation in the garden. Josefina says she doesn't want to listen to DIM anymore and she would like to talk to Carlotta. DIM says that they're having a family dinner and it's not a good time--Josefina really should call before she comes anyway. Monica appears in the next moment, explaining to DIM that his mother wanted her (Monica) to come for him.
"Monica," says DIM. "I want to present to you Josefina."
Of course, Monica is surprised.
"Pleased to meet you," says Josefina, not missing a beat with her natural grace and extending her hand to Monica.
Monica comments, "So you're the famous Josefina!"
Josefina remarks, "I'm famous? I didn't know."
DIM once again informs Josefina brusquely that if she wants to see someone in the house to please call next time. Does she have the number? She assures him that she does.
DIM and Monica turn and walk away together arm and arm into the house, leaving Josefina alone in the garden, watching them go.
Everyone back in the dining room now, EZ, who would be the man of the house if it weren't for the fact that Gracie still lives there, proposes a toast to the happy couples--J-L and Montse; Monica and DIM. Gracie gets her own two pesos in and declares that she wants to propose a toast to her beautiful and marvelous new family. She hopes the ties that bind them to each other grow ever stronger.
"Let's stay united," she says.
They toast.
Beach House Almonte, now in possession of Fabiola: Continuing her search for Rosario and Laurio, Josefina has come to call on the last-known residence of the Almonte family as she knew it when she was last in Agua Azul. Instead, she finds Fabiola. Fabiola has been called from her bedroom and seems in a bad mood from the start, fastening her robe as she enters the living room to see her guest. Josefina greets her and comments that Fabiola is the cousin the Alejandro. This ticks off Fabiola, and she declares that Alejandro was an impostor who stole her inheritance and is no cousin of hers.
Ignoring the 'tude, Josefina comments politely that she and Fabiola have met before at a wedding, but Fabiola just says she has no idea who Josefina is. Josefina reminds her that she was the wife of DIM, and then Fabiola remembers, though she comments that she wouldn't recognize Josefina and that divorce seems to suit her. Josefina thanks her and says that she came to Agua Azul to find Rosario.
Fabiola takes this opportunity to inform Josefina that she (Fab) only just returned to this dirty town and has no idea where Rosario is--and what's more she's not interested. Surprised at the rudeness, Josefina says she'd would be grateful for any information at all, but Fabiola just repeats that she already told Josefina that she doesn't know anything and, also, will Josefina leave the house now. Josefina says, very well, she's going but before she does she decides to give Fab a little dressing down: money can buy many things, she tells Fabiola, but it can't buy class, birth, and above all, it can't buy manners.
The chastisement is lost on Fab, though. After Josefina leaves, Fabiola runs back into the bedroom where both wine and her sleazy though attractive lawyer Sandro await her. She gulps down the former, then jumps into bed with the latter.
Mansion Mendoza-Basurto: Family dinner completed, DIM and Monica stroll in the garden. Seemingly worried, Monica wants to know how DIM feels seeing Josefina after so many years. He claims he feels nothing.
Monica doesn't want to leave it at that, though, and wonders if DIM is angry. He asks do they really have to talk about it now. "Do you still love her?" Monica wants to know. DIM says that what he felt was stupid and that there is nothing between him and Josefina anymore. It's over. Monica says she's worried that the arrival of Josefina is going to change everything, but he insists that what happened with Josefina was a long time ago, and he doesn't want to know anything about Josefina now.
But Monica keeps at him, and it's clear she understands Josefina's significance, even if DIM won't admit it. Monica wants to know if DIM is harboring any hope of returning to Josefina. Monica needs the truth NOW, so she can get out of the relationship with DIM before she gets hurt. She doesn't want to be in a relationship that has no future. He tells her that, in all honesty, he doesn't know what will happen between him and Monica, but what he does know is that for the first time in a long time he feels something for someone. He wants to try to be with Monica. It's worth the effort. She seems grateful for his honesty and tells him that she's feeling vulnerable because for a while now, she has had strong feelings for DIM. She thinks she's falling in love. DIM doesn't respond in kind with words of love, but he does lean in for a kiss. She seems to be satisfied. Things get steamy in the garden.
José-Luis and Montse take note of the PDA, as they, too, stroll around outside in the garden together. Montse comments that DIM and Monica make a good pair. J-L agrees in the main, but he seems a little dubious, too, and says that he's not so sure: Monica seems like an excellent person, but she's used to giving orders, and he's not sure that DIM is the kind to take them for long. Montse respectfully disagrees, saying that maybe Monica is like that in her professional life, but that doesn't mean she is in her personal life. She's very feminine, even coquettish. J-L gives in, kissing Montse, and says that maybe she is right.
Montse laughs and says, "I'm always right." J-L laughs, too, happy to concede to her, and they seem relaxed and comfortable together.
J-L reflects on how they used to hang out in the same garden together, hiding from her family. He's happy that they don't need to now. She decides to bring up his suggestion that that they have a church wedding--she didn't realize he was thinking of this. Montse says that she only wants something simple and was thinking that they should just have a civil ceremony. It's a good compromise. José-Luis tells her it's his dream to see her walking down the aisle in her wedding dress, arriving at the alter. He suspects that the reason that she doesn't want to do this is because she's not really in love with him.
This seems to be exactly what she's thinking and not feeling, but he's not discouraged by her reluctance and is honest with her, too, saying that he knows that she doesn't feel what she felt for him many years ago when they were hiding in the garden. Still why wait, he asks? They're both widowed, and he knows that at least she cares for him. She admits that she does, with a smile. Then please tell me you will, he says. Please come to me dressed as a bride. She doesn't say yes, and still seems hesitant, but she laughs as he takes her in his arms and seems to be listening and giving into his wishes in order make him happy.
Hospital, Buenos Aires: Alejandro remembers the day he offered to give Montse a divorce to give her the freedom to be with José-Luis if she wanted, but swore, too that he (Alejandro) loved her and would fight for her. Montse told Alejandro that she also loved HIM more than anyone and, even with her freedom, she was choosing Alejandro to be with for the rest of her life. Alejandro kissed Montserrat.
Back in the present moment, a distraught and depressed Alejandro comes of his reverie and cries, "Montserrat! Montserrat, my love!"
We get a montage of Alejandro's rehabilitation set to the background music of a song about lost love: he does physical therapy, identifies little pictures on flashcards to test his memory and recall, receives MRIs. If we could be witness to what the MRI-tech must surely see on the screen that shows the inside of Alejandro's brain, we'd likely see a giant black velvet painting of Montse. Ale is an obedient patient and does what he's supposed to, but his spirits are low and he performs tasks without any apparent enthusiasm.
Done with therapy for the day, at least, or maybe even forever since he possesses superhuman recuperative powers, Alejandro walks with Victor back to Victor and Nadia's home, as Victor explains he got a place in this particular neighborhood of Buenos Aires because it was cheaper, though he comments that it's very picturesque. Alejandro says yes and then he's sorry for changing the subject, but he can't stop worrying about the fact that Josefina hasn't contacted them yet. He's concerned that his mother may have died and that Lauro has been left alone. Or maybe they've left Agua Azul and that Josefina won't be able to find them. Victor tries to reassure Alejandro that this isn't the case and not to torment himself with imaginary worries and that Josefina will call them soon and tell them how things really are. Maybe Nadia has had news from her already. They head towards the house.
Next we get a very random imbedded public health announcement about obesity and weight loss. Carlotta goes to visit a doctor to talk about her weight problems. She assures him it's not just about wanting to look good, she wants to lose weight for her health, too. The doctor agrees explaining all the potential health risks of obesity and promises to help Carlotta with a plan. It's even free! The whole scene was much better than another long Toyota Tundra commercial. Thanks to the producers for their show of public service.
Adolfo's House, Agua Azul: Adolfo having a little slumber party with what seems to be a bevy of loose women, one of whom has risen earlier than the others and takes advantage of the opportunity to go through Adolfo's pockets and steal his wallet. Luckily, though, she is still conscientious enough to answer the doorbell when it rings, revealing that Josefina has come to call. Josefina asks the woman if Adolfo is there, and the women remarks that she had no idea that was his name, but, yes, he's in the bedroom--"Go ahead and go in," she tells Josefina, Josefina finds Adolfo in his compromised post-menage a quatre state. She attempts to wake him up by repeatedly calling his name and shaking his foot. Finally, he opens his eyes and shows considerable more animation than DIM did when he saw Josefina again after many years.
"Finita!" Adolfo exclaims.
Victor and Nadia's House, Buenos Aires: Nadia is gagged and tied up in a chair. She hears Victor and Alejandro enter the house, asking where she is. She tries to call out to them and can only managed muffled groans, but luckily, they find her quickly. Shocked, they rush to un-gag her, asking her repeatedly what has happened.
She is too distraught to answer them and begins screaming for Victoria. She begs Victor to look for their girl as Alejandro unties Nadia from the chair, again asking her to be calm and tell them what happened. Nadia is shouting for Victor to please tell her Victoria is in the house, please. But Victor returns quickly and says, no, Victoria isn't here.
Devastated, her worst fears realized, Nadia howls in agony and cries, "My daughter! They took my daughter!"
Once again they beg Nadia to calm down and tell them what happened. Nadia recounts the story of how she was drinking water, heard the notes on the piano, thought it was Victoria, but then how Victoria came running from her bedroom. Nadia begged Victoria to come to her, but she never did. Someone else was there instead. She reached out and felt his face.
Slow to ascertain what should probably be obvious, our handsome boys each must ask Nadia in turn, "Who was it?"
Nadia is sure it was HIM: Pedro. Pedro took their daughter.
Lamentation abounds.
Adolfo's House, Agua Azul: Josefina waits for Adolfo in his living room. As he enters, she tells him his little friends left. She saw another one leaving earlier with his wallet. Adolfo tells her not to worry, he'll get his wallet back and also thanks for staying, so they could talk. She says it wasn't comfortable for her to see him like she did. He says he knows and is sorry.
She add that it bothers her to see that him living such a wasted life, but concedes that it's his choice. With some tone of sadness, he tells her there was a time in his life when things could have gone differently for him, but he needed her to take him by the hand so he didn't fall into hell. But she left in spite of what he felt for her, and so, he is what he is.
She says that he's not the Adolfo she remembered--it's his eyes. Or rather, there's something in the look of his eyes that's different. He tells her that she's beautiful.
Changing the subject, she says she came because she needs a favor. He hardens at this and wonders what's in it for him, and she says she shouldn't be surprised that it's about business for him and offers to recompense him for whatever he thinks the favor is worth. He tells her that he doesn't want her money. What else can she offer him? He's putting a move on her and she's upset especially given his recent activities, but he continues to proposition her, reminding her that she never knew him as a man. Disgusted, she says no thanks and goodbye. But he seems newly hurt and wants to know when he can see her again.
"Never!" she declares.
Back in Buenos Aires, Nadia is crying as both Victor and Alejandro ask if she's sure that the stranger was Pedro. Nadia says she'd know the feel of that disgusting caterpillar of a stache and fashion statement eyewear anywhere! She's sure!
"I'm going to kill him!" Victor shouts in a rage, both angry and desperate.
"My daughter, my child!" Nadia keeps crying.
Victor swears that they will get Victoria back.
Alejandro tells them that they have to call the police, but Victor reminds Alejandro that they can't do that he is a fugitive. Alejandro tells them not to worry for HIM, that Victoria is the most important thing. Nadia wants to call the police, too, but Victor feels that they can't. What would they say, he wonders--that Pedro Medina, an important Mexican politician took their daughter? (My advice to Victor: Yes, that is exactly what you should say.) Then they would have to tell them everything else, too. Victor suspects that Pedro and Victoria are probably already flying to Mexico. Nadia is urging them to leave for Mexico to look for Victoria, repeating, "My poor daughter! My child!"
Having wanted to take action since the moment he returned to consciousness, Alejandro says he agrees with Nadia and that he doesn't want to wait for news from Josefina. The three of them need to leave as soon as possible for Agua Azul. Once again, Victor informs Alejandro that he is a fugitive and that as soon as he steps foot on Mexican soil, they will arrest him, but Ale tells him, "No, I'm not. Everyone thinks I'm dead." Victor tells Alejandro that they all know what Pedro is. If Pedro now realizes that Nadia and Victor are alive, then he must also have a suspicion that Alejandro is alive, too. But Alejandro says this isn't important.
"You need to look for Victoria," he tells Victor, "but I need to find my son."
Montserrat's House, Agua Azul: As coincidence always has it, at just that same moment Alejandro's son, Little Lauro, is thinking of his father, too--that is, his NEW one, José-Luis, and not his presumably dead one, Alejandro. Lauro informs his visiting Tía Carlotta about how happy he is to have José-Luis in his life and Carlotta agrees that it is a good thing and wants them to be happy, while Montse listens and looks pensive.
After Lauro leaves at Montse's urging to go play with his ball--TN children are usually so cooperative when the grownups need to talk!--Carlotta comments to Montse that it's wonderful that Lauro is taking the news of her wedding to J-L so well, and Montse admits that she has never seen Lauro so happy. She is still sad, though, that Lauro never knew Alejandro, while Tía Carlotta assures Montse that she has done a good job keeping Lauro's feelings for Alejandro alive. Montse tells Carlotta how she put a picture of Alejandro in Lauro's backpack and told him that it was so his father could be with him all the time. She never wants this to change, even after her marriage to J-L. Carlotta assures her that Lauro will always keep a special feeling for Alejandro in his heart because Lauro knows that Alejandro is his father.
Bright Yellow Agua Azul Municipal Building: José-Luis has come to call on Basurto. Basurto comments that it's such a pleasant surprise to see J-L, and the men exchange some niceties and suggest using "tú" with each other since, as Basurto notes, they are relatives, though a wary J-L comments, "Not yet."
Basurto wonders if J-L is worried that Montse will regret her decision to marry him, but J-L says no, and then changes the subject, commenting on the changes Basurto made to the office since Pedro Medina's time. Basurto comments that it was Carlotta who helped him decorate. J-L comments that he supposes that now Basurto does not want to go against Media, but Basurto informs J-L that in this assumption, he is completely wrong. Pedro is powerful now, but one day he will destroyed.
José-Luis says that he is very happy to hear Basurto thinks this way and also assures Basurto that he can count on his (J-L's) support in the work of bringing Pedro down. Basurto comments that it is a pity that J-L is no longer in the marina, and J-L agrees, saying that he doesn't have a way to continue investigating Medina--no guns and no support.
Basurto says that HE has guns and power. J-L says that this is why he needs Basurto help now.
J-L says that since he has left prison he has been trying to get work. Basurto laughs and wonders why since J-L is such a rich man now and can be busy managing his investments. J-L insists that this is not the kind of work he likes. He needs something that provides more of an adrenalin rush and, besides, he wants to continue investigating Medina and to make him pay for all the crimes he has committed.
"This is where you're going to help me," J-L says to Basurto. "I want you to name me Chief of Police of Agua Azul."
Basurto is dismissive and says he can't do this--he can't possibly appoint a man like J-L with a criminal record. But J-L reminds Basurto that he (José-Luis) is well-trained and also an ex-marinero. He also insists if someone like Basurto can be Municipal President then why can't someone like J-L be Chief of Police? J-L and Basurto also have the same goal: they want Pedro Medina to fall. But now J-L suspects that there might be more to Basurto's reluctance:
"What's worrying you, EZ?" he asks. "Do you have something to hide?"
This seems to get through to Basurto in some way as he at last stands up and agrees, saying, "Okay. Very well." But Basurto adds that he wants one thing to remain clear: as chief of police J-L would be under Basurto's orders.
J-L seems to be taking Basurto's measure as he comments, "Of course, this is how it will be since I'm sure that you always give orders that are within the law."
"Of course," says Basurto, slowly.
Basurto asks José-Luis for a few days to make the arrangements and extends his hand to seal the deal. J-L accepts it, and they shake on their new professional relationship, though both still seem wary of each other as they exchange semi-stare-downs to end the scene.
End of Episode.
Avances: Both Montserrat and Alejandro are sad, each believing that the other is dead. Montserrat feels the need to provide her son with a father in spite of her still missing and loving Alejandro. Josefina discovers that Montserrat is alive.

Pedro is not the first governor in office to drop everything to go track down a woman in Argentina.
I remember when that douchebag Mark Sanford of South Carolina disappeared for several days back in 2009 to do that very thing.

I'm relieved to see that neither Dimitrio nor Monse is buying what Gracie is trying to sell. She deserves to lose both of them. He wasn't wrong when he told Monica his mother was loca. Her insults against JL are as disgusting as ever.
I'd love for Josefina to give her the same zinger she shot at Fabiola. Money can't buy class; this is so true. Neither can college degrees or even post-grad ones, neither of which do I think either Fabiola or Gracie have.
What does get me from time to time is the use of the word "education" to refer to manners. I realize that English has probably many more actual words than other languages, but this is a concept apart from classroom knowledge.
As for Pedro, we knew he would do this if he found Nadia. What I think he's going to do is keep Victoria locked up somewhere or throw her into an orphanage. She's not pre-verbal and she's an intelligent child, so he has to be aware that she will talk. What I can't quite get is how fast he managed this.
I just hope that Victoria doesn't let it spill that Alejandro is alive. But that will probably happen because she has no idea why she shouldn't say anything about that.
Monica isn't stupid; she realizes that there are issues between Dim and Fina. I'm sure she also didn't miss Gracie's snub of not wanting to know her name.
I would advise Dim to not bother calling Gracie out on that at a later date; waste of time. He needs to keep his distance from Gracie no matter what happens with Monica or Fina.
I would also advise Monica to retreat from Dim. Not only because of Fina but because who needs a suegra like Gracie?
Daisy, I'm wondering about that, too. I think his prime motive might be to stick it to Gracie for her previous actions. If he doesn't already regret making that financial deal with her he will.
Nobody has commented on the tattoo Adolfo has on his left arm.
I expected that to be a big talking point today.

Having now finished reading, I'm still laughing at the title of this recap and this:

I loved Finita and Fofito's scene. They have some nice chemistry. Part of me wants Fina to take him up on his proposition.
The shoehorned PSA about obesity was present in QPTR, too. No worse than the Tundra and Subway shilling, I guess.

Julia, thank you for the detail filled very enjoyable. Your comment about there being a "giant black velvet painting of Monste" in Alejandro's head made me laugh as I tried to picture it. Very funny.
Another funny thing was that tonight there was a PSA for treating obesity in LQLVMR and then immediately afterwards there was a PSA in QPTR for healthy eating. Coincidence?
JL just wouldn't give up on that big church wedding with Montse just like he wouldn't give up on becoming the chief of police of Aguazul. He and Ezequiel will make interesting allies if they can trust each other.
Josefina has been getting nowhere fast but it looks like that all changes tomorrow.
Can't wait until the Argentine contingent returns to the homeland.

JL just wouldn't give up on that big church wedding with Montse just like he wouldn't give up on becoming the chief of police of Aguazul. He and Ezequiel will make interesting allies if they can trust each other.
Josefina has been getting nowhere fast but it looks like that all changes tomorrow.

I hope the reunion scene between Montse and Alex is outstanding! I want to see something like when Damien kidnapped the bride at gunpoint and on horseback in Abismo. That was great. I think Alex will have to steal her because she wouldn't leave Alex when Jose Luis showed up. She might stay out of loyalty. But then that means angry Alex will show back up and me likes angry Alex. I'm rambling.

Madelaine, Dimi is holding a grudge. Everything he said to Fina was very pointed. Saying that everyone was just fine without her, you could hear the inflection in his voice trying to make very clear that HE was fine without her. And when he told her how it was only family, and that if she decided to show up maybe she should call next time, assuming she remembers the number. He was very bitter.

Great work, Julia. My favorite line: EZ, who would be the man of the house if it weren't for the fact that Gracie still lives there, proposes a toast to the happy couples--J-L and Montse; Monica and DIM.
I'm relieved to see that neither Dimitrio nor Monse is buying what Gracie is trying to sell. She deserves to lose both of them. He wasn't wrong when he told Monica his mother was loca. Her insults against JL are as disgusting as ever.
I'd love for Josefina to give her the same zinger she shot at Fabiola. Money can't buy class; this is so true. Neither can college degrees or even post-grad ones, neither of which do I think either Fabiola or Gracie have.
What does get me from time to time is the use of the word "education" to refer to manners. I realize that English has probably many more actual words than other languages, but this is a concept apart from classroom knowledge.
As for Pedro, we knew he would do this if he found Nadia. What I think he's going to do is keep Victoria locked up somewhere or throw her into an orphanage. She's not pre-verbal and she's an intelligent child, so he has to be aware that she will talk. What I can't quite get is how fast he managed this.
I just hope that Victoria doesn't let it spill that Alejandro is alive. But that will probably happen because she has no idea why she shouldn't say anything about that.

I really hate when TN's pull children into negative, criminal plot lines and it looks like we have to deal with one very confused, frightened little girl for some time. Victor was unbelievable in that whole scene. I'm sorry, you're more worried about Ale being found out? I would be all "Sorry Dude, but my child comes first. Did my best, but where's the phone so I can call the police." Watching Pedo assuredly try to twist her mind against her parents...my finger will be on the remote because I can't deal with any of that.
All I could think of when JL walked in with his idea to EZ was "Gee, hope there isn't some poor slob already in that job". Something about JL just put me off last night. I'm not altogether warm and fuzzy watching him with Monse, and bugs me that once again she is with someone who wants things THEIR way. C'mon girl, put your foot down.

Monica isn't stupid; she realizes that there are issues between Dim and Fina. I'm sure she also didn't miss Gracie's snub of not wanting to know her name.
I would advise Dim to not bother calling Gracie out on that at a later date; waste of time. He needs to keep his distance from Gracie no matter what happens with Monica or Fina.
I would also advise Monica to retreat from Dim. Not only because of Fina but because who needs a suegra like Gracie?

I was expecting more from her meeting with Dim. Yearning, sadness, anger. Any of those emotions would have been fine but the cold indifference was very hard to take. Fina should have left but should not have stayed away so long. She could have said to Dim it was good to see him not let him know right away she wasn't there for him. Telling her to come back another time was cruel. I saw him regress and was saddened by it.
At least Fina knows who Victoria is and that her parents are still alive. I cringe at the poor child being with Pedro.

Im starting to like Basurto actually,he is a way more tolerable villian/good guy/ to watch!.Pedo is outstandingly evil,SS will probably get the villian of the year award for his amazing performance.Its just Pedo is so disgusting,even more when he is pretending to be nice,atleast Alexis Ayala makes the good scenes more believable.

Have to say that I found Nadia's performance (the actress) of portraying her grief, terror and hysteria very believable. I didn't find it over the top or cheesy as one might expect in a novela or soap opera. The scene went on and on and was painful to watch, but because I could see myself doing the exact same thing. I think it really would take some time for the hysteria to wear off before you could gather your wits together to say who the kidnapper was, or rather who she thought he was.

Julia- Many thanks for this wonderfully descriptive recap. I wimped out. As soon as Pedro conked Nadia on the head, I switched the channel. I only came back for the last few minutes to see JL and Zeke do their wary dance around each other. They really are shuffling all the roles around. JL goes from lowly cabo, to fugitive, to respected military officer, to jailbird/ex-con, and now to rich police chief. I wonder how Pedro will feel about that?

I couldn't believe JL was asking to be Chief of Police, I thought he would ask for a regular officer position since he was so modest before about not using Angie's money to pay for their house. The Nurse isn't one of our main characters, and Nadia's gig as a music teacher is short-lived too. Wife and Mother have the Puppet Mistress job embedded in their descriptions. Gracie wields her power to control others through her role as Wife/Widow and Mother.
Daisy, I'm wondering about that, too. I think his prime motive might be to stick it to Gracie for her previous actions. If he doesn't already regret making that financial deal with her he will.
Ahh I think you all are being harsh on JL. Maybe he is trying to capture an image of a past he never got to experience with Montse the first time. This is a man who spent 7 years in jail for someone else's crime. He can be forgiven for wanting to see Montse walk down the aisle in a wedding dress. He is over the top happy. I really think he just wants to share his happiness with the world, not throw it in anyone's face.

Carlos: Okay so JL joined in but like you said, he took full responsibility, and I think that shows he is a pretty upstanding guy. Him getting carried away and making plans without Montse is forgivable in my eyes because he lost 7 years and just wants to get on with his future. Granted it his vision and not Montse's. Still forgivable to me.
Mexico has some very strict gun laws. I wonder if, as a convicted felon, JL will be able to carry a firearm when he becomes the new chief of police? Perhaps Zeke will try to get some sort of exemption, but surely as governor, Pedro will have some say in the matter and I wonder if JL has bothered to tell Montserrat of his latest career aspirations? As the new police chief will JL be obligated to pursue and arrest Alejandro? I see fun times ahead.

Julia, I read Your wonderfully written recap this morning but had to dash off to work without having the time to comment. You have such a marvelous sense of humor--and it was much needed as a leavening agent for this dark, dismal episode.
My favorite line was about Alejandro having a "giant black velvet painting of Montse" in his brain. No doubt. And with HUGE eyes. And maybe some tears dripping down. Hysterical.
and just your light touch with "lamentation abounds". Indeed. These writers are really tightening the screws, I must say.
Well, Oxnard, our luminous Josefina did barge in on quite a few households last night, and I think that was partly to show how much her spine has straightened, literally and figuratively, as she confronted and gracefully deflected crude, rude and tasteless reactions to her surprise arrival. Well done, Fina! Touché. Unfortunately, she still has zip, information-wise. Again, the writers are messing with us. Dang these extensions!
I did not literally tune-out during the wrenching Nadia scene, but I had to tune out emotionally or it would have been unbearable. No parent can stand to let themselves imagine what that would feel like.
And like Carlos and Daisynjay, I'm feeling repelled by José Luis. And the wardrobe people are still having him wear these cheesy looking suits and t-shirts. Quite deliberate, I'm sure. The heroic José Luis, married to the lovely Angelica, was either in crisp, snappy uniforms or all-white. Now he's dressing down market. Clearly he's not slated for a happy ending.
And omigosh, Ezekiel, every episode those durned foulards at his neck seem to get bigger and more ridiculous. Okay, wardrobe folks, we get it...he's risen above his station and is laughably pretentious. I still got a kick out of his eye roll to the ceiling during Graciela's family-unity performance. Alexis Ayala is quite the actor.
And you are quite the recapper, Julia. Enjoyed every word of it, even though the episode itself was semi-miserable.

Julia, I read Your wonderfully written recap this morning but had to dash off to work without having the time to comment. You have such a marvelous sense of humor--and it was much needed as a leavening agent for this dark, dismal episode.
My favorite line was about Alejandro having a "giant black velvet painting of Montse" in his brain. No doubt. And with HUGE eyes. And maybe some tears dripping down. Hysterical.
and just your light touch with "lamentation abounds". Indeed. These writers are really tightening the screws, I must say.
Well, Oxnard, our luminous Josefina did barge in on quite a few households last night, and I think that was partly to show how much her spine has straightened, literally and figuratively, as she confronted and gracefully deflected crude, rude and tasteless reactions to her surprise arrival. Well done, Fina! Touché. Unfortunately, she still has zip, information-wise. Again, the writers are messing with us. Dang these extensions!
I did not literally tune-out during the wrenching Nadia scene, but I had to tune out emotionally or it would have been unbearable. No parent can stand to let themselves imagine what that would feel like.
And like Carlos and Daisynjay, I'm feeling repelled by José Luis. And the wardrobe people are still having him wear these cheesy looking suits and t-shirts. Quite deliberate, I'm sure. The heroic José Luis, married to the lovely Angelica, was either in crisp, snappy uniforms or all-white. Now he's dressing down market. Clearly he's not slated for a happy ending.
And omigosh, Ezekiel, every episode those durned foulards at his neck seem to get bigger and more ridiculous. Okay, wardrobe folks, we get it...he's risen above his station and is laughably pretentious. I still got a kick out of his eye roll to the ceiling during Graciela's family-unity performance. Alexis Ayala is quite the actor.
And you are quite the recapper, Julia. Enjoyed every word of it, even though the episode itself was semi-miserable.

Ale has mentioned several times that he's worried about his son (thoroughly understandable) because his (Ale's) mother may be dead. Why would she be dead? As far as he knows (as far as we all know) she's an extremely strong, young(ish) woman. It seems rather lame to me that the writers would have him say those lines. She may be poor, sure. Homeless - possibly. Alone, could be. Penniless, most likely. But Dead?
JL KNOWS for a fact that EZ is tangled up with Medina. He was there listening outside the window when they had that meeting in the shack near the hacienda with Juventino. I think he wants to get BOTH Basurto and Medina, but I hope he doesn't go to the dark side in order to accomplish this. He needs to know that Adolfo is now part of this, too.
But I agree, though, that JL is way too oily, smarmy and still very whiny when it comes to Montse. And he knows very well that she's responding to him out of guilt - well, double guilt. She feels guilty for the way she treated him in the past when he was helping Ale and she feels guilty (although not her fault) that her son hasn't had a father figure in his life all this time. And with everyone else commenting about how happy her child looks, there's no way she would change that (until the real thing shows up, of course) - so JL is going to exploit it to get everything he wants from her. He's guilting her into a church wedding and he'll probably (IMO) soon guilt her into bed.

Gracie keeps insulting JL because she obviously loathes him even though she wants his money, but also because she continues to play the part so Montse doesn't see that she's desperate for her to marry JL.

So what is the record for number of weddings in a TN for a protaganista? If Montserrat goes through with this wedding with JL, then we are certainly looking at at least one more to Alejandro. That's 4, count 'em, 4 white dresses with three of the weddings to the same guy. And with Alejandro still alive (though presumed dead) will that invalidate the marriage to JL or will he have to die so that she can remarry Alejandro?

Carlos- Sortilegio. MJ married Bruno/fake Alejandro in the beginning. Then married real Alejandro at the end in 1) the Church; 2) civil ceremony; 3) a native ceremony. Totally different kinds of dresses for each one. Monse might just tie her.

Someone who is trying to dance or work out with weights while mired down in poor body alignment will be doing themselves more harm than good. And while posture reflects your mood, you can also change your mood for the better, just by straightening up, opening the chest and smiling. Sounds simplistic and shallow, but it actually works.

Speaking of Ale, the scene with Lauro gave me some hope that he would have a new perspective, as he finally held himself accountable and truly seemed regretful. I'm not sure I can give these writers enough credit to think that they'll have character growth for Alejandro, since I've often felt that the novela doesn't acknowledge that Ale needs to change. I mean, when Montse went on about how he was the best man, I just thought "I mean yeah, he was a good guy, but with tons of issues". I would like to believe the novela won't just gloss over these issues, and that scene gave me some hope, so I hope we don't revert to controlling, raging, jealous, insecure Ale the moment he gets back and sees her with JL.
Please let this show acknowledge that he needs to change before it's all said and done!

Does anyone know what it was that made Montse fall so hopelessly, madly in love with him? I don't remember him giving her any flowers, or treating her as though she is special, or saving her life - nothing other than manhandling her and forcing himself on her (but she hated him at that time) and acting as though she was his property. I've watched all of this tn but don't remember anything. Was it just the sex? And if so, what's to prevent her from falling in love again with JL? HE's definitely shown his love for her.

JL is in love with Monse (or believes he is) and wants her to love him back just as much for keeps, so his wanting a church wedding is only natural. I'm not blaming him. I'm blaming Monse. Nanette, I agree it's time for Barbie to grow up. She does not and will never love JL like she did before and she knows it. She's marrying JL so Laurito can have a good daddy, but JL has never indicated he would pull away from Laurito if they don't marry. He's the godfather and can remain as a father figure forever without them getting married. If Monse marries a second time without really being into it, it's on her.

Anon: I think that's the contradiction that is dividing viewers. Ale is a good looking guy but has control, rage and jealousy issues and has committed physical abuse. Looking at just his actions, we should all be pulling for JL. But the actor playing JL has a dark, untrustworthy, and some say oily, appearance. Yet the character's actions have been pretty much on the up and up throughout. And yet some can't come to like him. From a casting standpoint I think they nailed it otherwise we wouldn't be so torn between the two.
Well, Ale is decisive, hard-working, generous (the novela made sure to show us his giving back), protective, intelligent (not emotionally so by any means, and being a "good" guy, he's got a brain cell limit when we're talking about a typical tn, which this is), and obviously very good-looking. But he's controlling, incredibly insecure, prone to rage, overly jealous and possessive, and often rather macho (of course this novela has Montse indulge by being fairly useless).
I would hope that even though time hasn't really passed for him that maybe after seven years he would show some growth, but character growth is often so hard to find in a novela when it comes to the galan.
And in this novela I'm led to believe that the people behind it don't see anything wrong with his behavior, because it's constantly justified. Ale raped Montse and all we get is "we both behaved badly". He tries to tell her she can't see certain people without him around and she's all too happy to comply and justify it because she lied. The man is just not allowed to be held accountable.
I'm re-watching Las Dos Caras de Ana and marveling at how much the characters change and grow throughout. They should really show this novela again, which was made 8 years ago and yet there's more cell phone use than so many novelas now. And email. And there's even a "why didn't you tell me this over the phone instead of making me wait to come here?" moment. Sigh.

Ale's sole grand gesture was divorcing Monse so she could be free to choose him or JL. Come to think of it, she could've chosen to stay single ahwile and test the waters, but nope.
Also on JL, he's hardly perfect either. He was married to an amazing woman that he claimed to love, and still it was all Montse all the time.

Anyway, great epi last night. Finally things are moving along. I can't stand that Pedo took little Victoria. What ud he gonna do with her? How is he going to explain her to Amelia and the townspeople? If he doesn't keep her in Aguazul, I fear that he will send her abroad, and it will be even harder to find her. What a monster. He needs a slow and painful anvil. And it can't come soon enough. I feel horrible for Nadia. Her helplessness in trying to protect her daughter was so hard to watch.
Dimi definately still feels something for Fina. If he didn't, her presense wouldn't have bothered him as much as it did. But I also think he feels something for Monica. It will be interesting to see what happens. BTW, I thought it was curious that JL didn't think Dimi and Monica could make it as a couple.
