Lo Que La Vida Me Robo #153: 6/13/14: It's All About Them, Ale And JL That Is!
I am skipping the old and getting right to the new.
Sandho (Sandro) catches BM (Maria) sneaking into the chapel and follows her. He sees exactly where she has hidden that will of Ale's. He purposely runs into her outside and asks what she was doing in the chapel. Looking for EZ she tells him, and he asks again if she would like to accept his proposal, um, nopis from her. She warns Sandho that if he keeps bothering her, Addled will kill him.
JL is still trying to break into Lolo's tablet without much luck. Monse comes into his home office and asks if he is busy. Monse has put her ring back on and he's happy to see it there. He admits that he is afraid of losing her, and she tells him she needs her space. JL wants a promise of no divorce from Monse. He needs her body and she needs some time and not to press her. He kisses her hand and she goes, all smiles. She must have taken Graceless' advice, verdad?
Carly (Carlotta) is having a chin wag with Nadia and she's crying, as they sit there and talk Susanna and Vicky are having a great time chasing each other all over the house, cool beans. Anyhoo, Carly is upset that Nadia is now blind, Ale was in a coma for seven years and Carly did everything she could to convince Monse to marry JL. She feels uber guilty, cause she thinks of Monse has a daughter, she wants Monse to be happy now. Carly is worried because of the fit JL threw when Monse disappeared from the wedding and is afraid of what JL will do once he finds out Monse has fled with Ale.
Now this is interesting! Monse is in her bedroom with Rosy and takes her wedding ring off and puts it in a silver jewelry box. She is feeling a mite guilty for leaving JL this way, but she realizes that JL will never let her go. She tells Rosy about the Navy and the cops are investigating to see if Ale is in Aguazul. Rosy tells Monse what happened with her encounter with JL and the clothes and the laundry. Rosy advises Monse not to tell Lolo what is going on right yet and tells Monse to be calm. Monse cries.
Sandho goes into the chapel and takes that will.
Monse is on the phone with Ale, he's been waiting for her for twenty minutes, but she tells him no nooky, er, no meeting tonight. She is staying home to allay JL's fears so to speak. Ale also didn't go to see BM to take her up on her offer. Monse reminds JL that he needs this document and then their marriage will become valid again, and her marriage to JL will be invalid. Hey, I don't write this stuff, the writers do! She asks Ale for forgiveness for marrying JL and he tells her don't worry, she didn't do anything wrong, Monse feels bad for marrying JL. Hold that thought.
Esme and Refug are eating and trying to get done so they can hop to it and get it on, Esme wants to heed the gyno's advice, when ding dong goes the bell. They have unexpected company in Dimi and Monica who have come by with a pizza. Esme asks Monica if she's cold cause Monica's shirt is sleevless and showing her tummy. Anyhoo, Esme goes to get drinks, and Moncia sits right down next to Refug and they joke and laugh while she has her hand on his thigh. Esme comes back in, asks Monica if she minds, and makes Monica move over by Dimi.
It's the next morning, and Rosy( Rosario) is telling Lolo (Laurito) to hurry, but he's looking for his tablet. JL comes in and tells Lolo he found his tablet in the living room. When Lolo tries to access it, he can't cause it's all locked up from JL trying to guess the password. Monse tells JL she is going along with Rosy to take Lolo to school, JL can't beleive it, but they leave and he says nothing.
Outside, in front of that Toyota Tundra, Monse asks Lolo if by any chance he put that pic of his Daddy and Lolo on the tablet. He tells his Mama this is so. He tells her that JL had his tablet when he went to get some pills for his headache. Lolo thinks this is why it's blocked or Monse does. Monse tells Lolo that his Daddy is waiting for them and off they go. Lolo is very excited and JL is very suspicious as they drive off.
Sandho calls Graceless and tells her he has that will of Ale's. I think they make a plan to meet laterz.
Fina (Josefina), Ale, and Vic (Victor) are waiting for Monse, she's late, and Ale is worried. Fina tells him to have patience. Ale is antsy though and tells Vic, once they get to where they are going, he will let Vic know. Addled (Adolfo) has come by too, and Ale wants a chat. He lets Addled know about seeing BM and that she set a condition for getting that will back. He tells Addled not to inform BM he's left Aguazul. Addled informs Ale that BM waited many years for Ale and so be prepared for her reaction, cause it won't be good when she finds out he's gone.
JL is in his home office drinking and with his naked eye, he thinks back to Monse getting the news from Vic that Ale was dead, Monse telling JL she makes the decisions for Lolo and JL is not his Papa, encountering Rosy with all those clothes in her arms and her story of the laundry, trying to break into Lolo's tablet and finally Monse being mad at him for the lie he told about Ale. What's a guy to do? He starts going through closets and drawers, sees all of Rosy's, Lolo's and Monse's stuff is gone and then looks in the silver jewelry box and finds the ring. He drops the ring to the floor and hurls that jewelry box at the mirror and breaks the mirror, seven years bad luck there JL, jus' sayin'. JL repeats over and over to that cracked mirror Ale is now with his wife, that would be JL's, over and over, and it ain't pretty.
Dominga, Mac, Fina, Addled, Carly, Vic have all come to say goodbye to the departing couple and famila. Ale asks if Lolo is happy, he is cause they will be a famila now and Ale promises they won't be seperated again. Monse assures Carly she will contact Graceless at some point. Carly is very happy that Monse is happy, and that Ale came back for Monse. All of a sudden, Monse isn't looking so good and passes out in Ale's arms.
Fabs (Fabiola) and Sandho and he says he'll be back laterz and not to wait up. She is miffed. She has yet another glass of wine when Graceless comes to call. They need to talk and once again Graceless takes her glass of red.
Refug and Dimi are going about the Navy's bidnez, when JL interrupts and tells Refug he is certain, certain Monse is betraying him and Dimi is like Que, Que, What????
Graceless informs Fabs that Sandho got ahold of the orginial will. Fabs is now very upset and witches not only will she lose all that lovely lana, well, not that, but everything and will probably go to la carcel. Graceless vows to protect Fabs, and if you beleive that I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you! Fabs wonders, as we all do, why that is? Graceless insists she won't betray Fabs, but will betray Sandho, who just happens to be at the open window and heard every single word!
Monse is awake at the hospital and tells Ale they should have left, there is nothing in this world wrong with her. Monse is worried that JL will find them. The Doc comes in and informs Monse, true to her suspicions there is nothing wrong with her. All she needs to do is pick out a name! Que, Que, What???? She's three weeks preggers she hears from the Doc. The Doc congrats them and goes. Ale is none to happy, three weeks Monse he says? Ale tells Monse in no uncertain terms she cannot be having this baby by JL y punto!
JL meanwhile, is telling Dimi and Refug that all of Monse, Lolo and Rosy's stuff is gone. Dimi doesn't get it, cause last he heard, Ale was dead! JL tells Dimi that Ale was only in a coma. JL is now sure that Monse and the rest have run off with Ale.
Meantime, back in that hospital room, Ale is insisting that Monse get rid of this baby. Now he didn't say the word abortion, it was implied. Ale seems to think this bebe will complicate matters. Monse keeps telling him no way she will do this and he tells Monse basically he doesn't give a tinker's damn what her opinion is. Now Ale is dead to me y punto.
Ale you are dead to me!
Monse tries so hard to reason with Ale. Monse reminds Ale that this bebe isn't responsible for anything and it's HER bebe. Monse is not getting rid of the bebe y punto. Now Ale thinks she is really in love with JL. Ale will not be reasoned with. Monse reminds Ale that JL loves Lolo like his own son and if this is a condition of Ale's to get rid of this bebe, forget about her! She'd rather be on her own with HER children than to get rid of this bebe. She is not getting rid of this bebe, for him or anyone y punto!
Will miracles never cease? Peddy is going off to the Norte to take care of that bit of bidnez and he's mad Addled was late. Peddy informs Addled that Nadia and Vicky better be here when he gets back. Addled assures Peddy the house is well guarded where is Nadia gonna go? Addled will be taking Vicky to school so no worries there. Nadia wanted to go along but Peddy won't allow it and calls her a bruja (witch). After Peddy leaves, Addled tells Nadia it's best if she stays at home. See, Nadia thought this would be the perfect opportunity to meet up with Vic and some hugs and kisses. Addled urges Nadia to be patient, all in good time. She will be with Vic soon. He also tells her about Monse fainting and that she is leaving. Nadia is just happy that Monse is happy.
Meantime, everyone is still waiting for Monse and Ale to get back from the hospital, they are all worried sick. Fina, the voice of reason, advises everyone to be patient. Monse and Ale come back and Lolo runs and hugs his Mama. Rosy is all ready to leave when Ale informs her they aren't going anywhere y punto.
AVANCES:
Ale goes on another rant.
JL overhears Monse and Rosy.
MUST SEE TV!

I went a bit overlong on this recap and the earworm I picked was for the pure joy of it. It's wonderful and brings sweetness and light. Please enjoy the recap ; )
Always set your DVRs to record five minutes past the hour for novelas. Both networks are guilty of this particular broadcast crime. Only the 10PM ones don't go past the hour because that interferes with the news.
Am I the first to be amused that the episode where someone breaks a mirror aired on Friday the 13th? And how about this one:
Fabs is now very upset and witches not only will she lose all that lovely lana, ...
That bitch deserves to be in prison along with Gracie for causing this situation.
We all knew that Alejandro would react like this. Here's hoping that there is a voice of reason to talk to him.
Finally, I have a question: Why is "abortion" such a dirty concept to Televisa writers? Are they misogynists who think that a woman is only worth as much as her uterus or do they believe it would offend the majority of viewers of this program? Is this why we have not yet had a heroine who doesn't want to have children? I know how difficult it is to get an abortion anywhere but in Mexico City (It's not actually that different in the US these days) and that has been mentioned at other times and in other series. I do have a question, though: Would JL have the legal right to stop Monserrat if she tried to have an abortion?
I neglected to mention this earlier but that large amount of cash for the house is in danger. Monserrat should have had it put in an offshore account.
Thank you.
Wah! Wah! Wah! What is that sound? Big baby Alejandro! Can't deal with Montse having JL's baby. So now they are going to lose their chance to escape because big baby Alejandro is throwing a tantrum.
I am starting to like Montse a lot more: she told Ale that JL had always accepted Laurito and that she would rather be alone than abort her baby. Yay! She is beginning to sound independent. Montse should free herself from both of these losers.
UA, I agree it would be interesting to see abortion as an option. Unfortunately even in the 21st century it is still a controversial act even here in the good old USA.
Jarifa
Which seems very likely because they've gotten careless. Rosario should have been the one to take Monserrat to the hospital instead so Alejandro wouldn't risk another exposure. However, it would have been worse for Monse to have this baby on the run and feel she had to lie about it being Alejandro's. However, I can't see her being able to do that.
If she has this baby it ties her to JL for the rest of her life even if she divorces him, which she needs to do no matter what else. A good divorce lawyer would make much of his concealment of Alejandro's survival (such as he knew it to have been) and he would be forced to pay child support.
Graciela will find out about this, of course, and create even more hell for Monse.
I haven't commented on it yet but her religious hypocrisy really burns my butt. I'm not religious at all but it always makes me angry to see people like her view religion as something they can bend to their own selfish ends.
You reminded me of my Kentucky mama with your "tinker's damn" quote. Still intend to call you one of these days and have a good old chinwag.
Will look forward to watching this later, although I think my son will have the TV co-opted all weekend with soccer. Can you believe that score with the Netherlands and Spain!!!???? Yowza.
I love your recaps for many reasons, not least of which is the tone you set. You unfailingly make every event interesting and capture the actions and emotions superbly.
"Carly (Carlotta) is having a chin wag with Nadia" made me laugh and "He drops the ring to the floor and hurls that jewelry box at the mirror and breaks the mirror, seven years bad luck there JL, jus' sayin'" was wise indeed.
I rather applauded Esme for making Monica move so she could sit next to her husband. Monica knows the deal, the hand on the leg was inappropriate. I'm glad she clearly told Monica hands off.
"Meantime, back in that hospital room, Ale is insisting that Monse get rid of this baby". How dare he! If there was any doubt as to Ale's character (or total lack of it), his words and his neck vein popping fury should leave no doubt. Aside from the reason for his utterly appalling reaction (pure jealousy), what about Monse, the woman he has sworn to love? How could he be so cruel?
I hope Monse remembers how devasted she was by Ale's words. Oh Monse. Take Laurito and leave all of this behind.
Sanho's eavesdropping has served him well. Knowing now that he was used, he will not take this betrayal well.
It will be interesting to see what Ale tells the crowd of well wishers why they are not leaving. Isn't this reminiscent of another planned escape that went awry due to delay? Sigh.
Good by Pedro. Good riddance.
Madelaine, thank you for this excellent summary.
Diana
You have also given us another wonderful recap of a story populated with nothing but dumb bunnies and men behaving very badly.
Frankly, JL and Alejandro BOTH make me sick and tired. Montserrat needs to grow up; get a grip; get a spine, and MOVE OUT far, far away. I know it will never, ever happen in a Mexican TN, but just once I would like to see a strong, independent female protagonist. Sadly, I do not think the Mexican audience sees this as a good thing.
I can't thank you enough, Madelaine for such wonderful detail. The minute I saw Montserrat in the opening scene with her ring on and then calling Alejandro in the dark, I knew, just knew that we were in store for a whole lot of stupidity. So, I signed off and went to bed.
What was with Carlota and all of the crying?!
What was with that get up that Sandro was wearing?
What was with Monica thinking she could put her hand on the thigh of a married man right in front of his wife?! She's a skinny chick with an angular face and that gives her carte blanche to behave this way?! Good grief.
Remind me, is this chick STILL a Captain in the Navy?!
I was wondering yesterday how in the world the writers were going to keep us entertained until August. I think they are reverting to the standard cliches, but gosh darn, I am SICK AND TIRED of JL and Alejandro, but especially JL.
Urban, I commented on Graciela's phony religious routine yesterday. It fries me too when she tries to come off as some pious devout person. That's a pretty fancy and expensive chapel for such a lying, toxic, manipulative heathen as Graciela.
Fatima
I have to dash out for breakfast with friends, but I had to quickly post that ALE IS AN A** of epic proportions. I join the line of folks who say "YOU are dead to me Ale., I want MonyMony to grab Little Larry and go far, far away from both of these guys .
Fatima, Thank you for your caring comment yesterday.
Sometimes, we need someone to tell us to slow down and take care of ourselves. I tell friends that all the time !!!! Thanks for your kind thoughts. I appreciate them. So...last night, I took Hub out to our favorite restaurant for a pre Father's Day dinner and now breakfast out and a little relaxation...then, a mountain of laundry to tackle !!!!
I think the sun might actually might be coming out today after a week of rain and gray mist. I thought that I was living in London or Seattle.
Later, Gators.
Re Alejandro and JL: they need to be booted from here to Kingdom Come.
Fatima
What I am really eager for now is the revelation of who Fabiola really is. If she is Gracie's lost daughter that will freak both of them out.
About Sandro's encounter with María you said:
"...he asks again if she would like to accept his proposal..."
Actually, she's the one who had made the proposal and he was wanting to take her up on it. Then as you said:
"She warns Sandho that if he keeps bothering her, Addled will kill him."
Also, I think you were a bit hard on Monica with:
"...Moncia sits right down next to Refug and they joke and laugh while she has her hand on his thigh."
They were selecting a movie to watch and her hand briefly brushed his thigh. I thought it all completely innocent. She was not sitting there with her hand resting on his thigh, though Esme certainly wasted no time in squeezing in between them.
As for Ale and JL, I can't decide which was worse. Both were overwhelmed with jealousy. However, while Ale was insufferable, JL was downright terrifying. Though I've no reason to believe that Montse will stick with it, I was impressed with her vow to abandon them both and rear her children alone. That would certainly be the best course of action.
By the way, now that JL has caused Laurito to be locked out of his tablet, is there a way for him to re-access it?
Carlos
So here's a scenario that could happen. And it does not save Ale's self-centered,insensitive reaction to Monse's pregnancy.
Two beanie tightening steps are required for this "solution" to work.
1st observation: As one blogger commented a week or so ago regarding how fast you could feel morning sickness after conception,it could be anytime from 'the NEXT morning (!) though the entire pregnancy.'
2nd observation: When Ale asked the doctor how long Monse had been pregnant he said about three weeks but if you wanted to be sure to could do some medical procedure to pin it down. (Whether this is TN meds or actual practice, who knows.)
Now the question is: Does it make a difference in terms of paternity if Monse got pregnant in three weeks or three weeks and one day? Remember the first day she felt dizzy was the morning after she first had sex with Ale!
It looks like JL is the father of the unborn, but could it be that Ale really is? And could they do a paternity test during her pregnancy (however dangerous)? JL and Ale could argue about who is the father for weeks.
And suppose Ale is! This would allow Ale to accept the baby as his. Stupid, but then we are dealing with Ale. (This is not a new observation; some other blogger mentioned it in passing right after Monse had sex with Ale: who's the real baby daddy TN theme).
However if the child is JL's then I think JL must die so Ale could reconcile with Monse and raise JL's orphan. (I think Ale's problem is with JL and not so much with the baby).
In any case, I think for several weeks Ale and Monse will be estranged. Not a spoiler but the handwriting is on the wall based on last night's episode.
I am glad Monse stuck for herself and her unborn child. However, she needs to put her words into action and get her and the hijos the heck out of Aguazul.
Caryn
I think someone else suggested that this could possibly be Ale's baby, too. Guess we will find out. Hopefully Montse won't conveniently have a miscarriage.
Angelique Boyer was very believable, I thought, in her anger and indignation over Ale's a-holiness (if such a word exists). Gretell Valdez is such a good actress. Her Maria character is crazy and over the top but is played in such a way that you want to throw something at the TV rather than just rolling your eyes and changing the channel. The character of Ivana in Soy Tu Duena was like that. If I had been chained to the TV during STuD, I would have chewed my leg off to get away from Ivana because she was so excruciatingly over the top in a bad, monotonous way.
Heck, I felt that way about Maria in Que Bonito Amor to the point that it was just too annoyingly painful to watch, as well as Victoria Ruffo's character in Triunfo Del Amor.
Madelaine, you got it right with the Calgon Take Me Away idea! Sometimes I wonder how you recappers can stand to even do a recap when some of the characters are SUCH irritating and annoying idiots! I wanted to throw a boot at the TV last night when Ale was being such a big stupid baby. Haha, ironic since the scene was ABOUT a baby!
While it is true that JL did 7 years in prison for Ale, he said he did it so Montse would be happy. I call BS on that, because if he really was truly all about Montse's happiness, then he would put her feelings ahead of his and let her go. I'm just shaking my head at these two supposed gallans.
What a great and detailed recap. Wow! You really caught everything and still kept the retelling moving along. It is so easy to get bogged down in details but you hit just the right note. And, as everyone else has said, thank you for the lovely song.
I have no time for the lion maned-big teethed Alejandro. For him to demand that Montserrat get rid of the baby under these circumstances is outrageous. He rejected her first baby, we all remember, because he thought Lauro was JL's. Alejandro is SUCH an unlikeable character.
I am with all who say that Montse should go back to Josefina's, take the money and run.Right now she has left herself homeless if she separates from JL and Ale rejects her (and the child).
If Alejandro's jealousy and insecurity are pathological, then he should not try to parent anyone. Punto. Mads, you spoke for me, too, when you said Alejandro was dead to you.
I am utterly bored and annoyed with his childlike tantrums.
Thanks again, Mads, for this wonderful and stimulating recap. It made me want to hustle right back to the Caray Caray Patio of Lowered Expectations so I could hang out and chat with my friends.
Thank you Capn Sylvia for creating the Patio. Bon voyage to you, wherever you find yourself.
Elna June
This really applies to JL.
If you love something, let it go. If it comes back, it was always yours to begin with. If it doesn't come back, track it down and kill it!
The actors play their parts so well that talking about them as though they are real actually adds to the pleasure of watching them and rehashing each episode. THis is why you will frequently see references to tin-foil beanies because you need to suspend belief in order to get through or more fully enjoy the novela.
I cannot let this go unchallenged:
"...Lt Avellaneda. He was so NOT A GOOD GUY."
Here is my recollection of things:
JL's transfer was ordered by Capitán Robledo as a favor to Graciela in order to spare her family embarrassment. Refugio had already attempted to help JL escape causing the soldier guarding JL at the time to be suspended and replaced by Refugio.
Pedro and Loreto had planned to ambush the vehicle transporting him in order to capture JL and recruit him to work for Pedro or kill him if he refused.
As far as I'm aware (it's not mentioned in any of the recaps at that time) Lt Avellaneda had no contact with Pedro or any agreement to cooperate with him.
"...Lt Avellaneda pulled off to the side of the road. They were waiting for Peddy to take JL off."
Refugio was driving. The recap by UA did not say why they stopped:
Corporal Alvarez is in the rear seat alone. However, he appears to have a key to the handcuffs, and he works it carefully... The car stops and the other two get out first, letting Alvarez out. He hits the officer, taking his pistol."
Here is your comment about it at the time:
"JL and Refugio are in sooo much trouble. I wonder if they will make a clean getaway or one of them gets caught."
Even had there been a conspiracy between the Lt. and Pedro, how would either JL or Refugio known about it? And finally, Cap'n Robledo wouldn't have known about it and would still be aware that JL and Refugio were guilty of the murder of his officer and yet apparently just chose to overlook it.
Carlos
I also enjoyed such lines as"
"Carly (Carlotta) is having a chin wag with Nadia"
'seven years bad luck there JL, jus' sayin'."
"JL interrupts and tells Refug he is certain, certain Monse is betraying him and Dimi is like Que, Que, What???? "
Urban, you are right, we all saw this reaction from Ale coming, way back when he told Montse the only thing he wouldn't accept is her having a baby that was JL's. Here we go with another separation! Perhaps, he needs a good old ear tugging from him mom to get his act together, but in the meantime, I almost shouted "You go Montse!" when she told Ale that she would keep her baby, and get rid of JL and Ale.
Can't wait for Monday to see what happens once JL finds out about the baby. Speaking of JL, although Ale definitely looked like a roaring lion when he found out the news, JL looked like a rabid dog in front of the mirror. Drool and all! Yikes!!!
Maricruz
And i hated Ales behavior today, what a baby,Mony would be better of wedding Tarzan( Played by Marcelo Cordoba) then having anything to do with these two babies!
So Peddy is going to the North Pole? Good,Santa Claus is looking for elves anyway,The Elf without Balls makes his dramatic entrance,Peddy SinHuevos Medina!! Or wait is he Santa Claus himself( Peddy Claus?),booo now i get why he is untouchable, the Navy and the Police cannot possibly hurt Peddy Claus, the childrens hope!,The People admire Peddy Claus so much they wish that he was never born!
-- Monse didn't do the deed with JL until after the wedding
-- Alejandro arrived the day of the wedding
-- The honeymoon lasted two weeks
-- Rosario did not immediately reveal to Monserrat that Alejandro was alive when she returned from Miami.
It's more than three weeks since the wedding, but I don't think it's been more than two since Monse reunited with Alejandro.
In the real world, how soon is it possible to get pregnancy test results?
Carlos,
Mea culpa, Mea culpa, Mea culpa, I did get it wrong about the Peddy coming to get JL. Apologies also to you, Urban and NovelaMaven. When I am wrong, I am wrong. I still don't think the LT was a good guy though. He would have shot JL sure as he was standing there. Refug shot the LT dead, but I still think it was self defense.
I will comment more later, as Mr Mads and I are about to go out : )
Another intriguing thing about this episode was seeing Sandro hear Graciela betraying him. I think he would have given her the will but now fat chance.
Carlos, I think you are right about Avellaneda. I don't recall finding anything out about him working for Pedro. I think he was just doing his duty, didn't want to let JL escape and so Refugio shot first to defend his pal.
Maricruz
Monse really did take a page out of Gracie's book when she tried to smooth talk J.L. by putting back on her wedding ring, etc.
This TN is just getting to be too long and dragging on forever and to think that someone commented that it will go on until August!
I still think in the end Ale will accept Monse and J.L.'s baby (because I don't see how it can possibly be Ale's). Then, of course, as I stated earlier J.L. has to die off. But I was intrigued by the comment that Monse will loose the baby by J.L.'s action -- perhaps in one of his fits of rage. We know he finds out about the bsby becsuse of the upcoming preview for Monday.
How wonderful was the comment about J.L. breaking the mirror on Friday, the 13th!!!! I'm truly beginning to detest his character. And what about Rosario only taking the necessary "essentials" to escape but the closets and drawers were all empty. How stupid and how did she accomplish this in one day with J.L. knowing?
While it's possible (with a quantitative HCG blood test) to estimate gestational age, it's unlikely that an ER would do such a test, it's costly, it generally would take a little longer to get the results, and even so, it's not a good way to date a pregnancy.
UA,
In the real world, how soon is it possible to get pregnancy test results?
I assume you mean how early in a pregnancy would results be positive and the answer is about 10 to 11 days by serum testing for HCG.
Madelaine:
"He would have shot JL sure as he was standing there."
On that we agree although he would have been doing his job. I don't think that makes him bad. Refugio had the option of dropping his gun and surrendering and no one would have been killed.
"Refug shot the LT dead, but I still think it was self defense."
I agree with that as well, but it was still murder. They were committing a crime.
Carlos
I hate it. It is a WEAK writing device and brings NO satisfaction to discerning viewers (like me, of course!! :)).
I just tried watching this episode on Hulu Plus because I had to turn it off last night. I still can't watch it.
JL, Alejandro, Pedro, and Sandro can all go take a hike. I'm fed up with them. F.E.D. U.P.
Fatima
I couldn't help to comment on your discussion because that scene has always particularly bugged me. I disagree that Refugio had to kill Avellaneda, he could have just shot him in the leg giving him and JL time to escape. Avellaneda was not gonna shot JL because JL had enough time to rant and yell and put his forehead in Avellaneda's gun and then mocve back and continue yelling while Avellaneda just looked weirded out by his attitude. I don't think he was letting them go, but he had alot of time to shoot JL if he was gonna do it.
And they pulled on the side of the road because Avellaneda had orders from Captain Robledo to turn JL to the authorities so that they would take him to Mexico City. JL didn't know the plans from Pedro, he and Refugio thought he was escaping prison.
Jarocha
While I hate what Ale did, I think it was best for Laurito to stay in Agua Azul than start a life on the run.
I'm glad that Montse didn't back down with Ale. I need more of that.
Jarocha
Madelaine,
By the way, while checking the facts of Avellaneda's shooting I was reminded that up until then, I had been a huge JL fan and was totally annoyed by Alejandro.
Carlos
Loved, loved, loved suour Cristina, she is everywhere these days. What a lovely voice.
I missed the killing of Lt. Avellaneda while in Portugal but what a cad JL has turned into. Ale is just annoying until he flashes that million peso smile then I don't care much. This is an entertaining story with so many subplots.
I'm glad that Montse is getting her groove back and flipped out at the machismoso Ale for even daring to tell her what to do with her body and her infant. She has come a long way.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads out there! How ironic that this weekend we're mulling over Ale's reaction to finding out he'll be a step-papa. I guess it's a man thing, but I just don't get why he can't accept this. It's not like Monse cheated on him - he'd been "dead" seven years. Yes, the baby will make JL still hang on, but he was going to do that any way. Such a contrast to the unhesitating acceptance Noble JL offered Monse when she got knocked up by Ale. And Ale could be with Monse's JL baby from its infancy and have a greater chance to bond.
But the Mad Dog JL of today, yep, I was expecting foam to come spewing out. I've been thinking that in the end JL would die a hero saving Monse or Ale. Now I'm wondering if instead he'll be carted off in a straitjacket.
On the killing of Lt. Avellaneda, I always felt bad for JL because Refugio jumped the gun. After Refugio shot the Lt., JL had no choice but to stick with his friend and continue escaping.
I too am cheering Monse for telling Ale she'd dump both these turkeys and go it alone with Laurito and Baby JL baby. I've been feeling this TN should be called "Ruthless People" cause everybody is doing low things. But Monse's fierce stand makes me thing it should be called "The Education of Monse." Is she truly seeing that both these guys are controlling and don't really get how she feels and what she needs to be happy? Run, Monse, run.
That comes from the old brain and is perfectly understandable. Not "nice" but understandable.
Civilized responses are still something we flawed humans have to work at.
Montserrat's reaction is also deeply biological and "old brain". Her entire body is already completely devoted to nourishing this baby, protecting it, forming each little fingernail, each little foot. Her enraged, fiercely protective response was every bit as biological as Alejandro's.
And he's thinking "If you really loved me, you wouldn't want this baby." He's never carried a baby in his womb so he doesn't understand. How could he?
I don't think we can expect these men to be passionate and macho, and then react like the Dalai Lama when their "mujer" wants to dump them or have someone else's baby. Passion just doesn't work that way.
And where is Padre Anselmo? If these people ever needed him, it's now.
Jarifa
Ideally, he needs at least 20 minutes to calm down (in Alejandro's case...maybe 20 hours...or 20 months!) Then he can listen, reason, accept etc. As UA said, there are very few stepfathers in the animal kingdom.
I don't think it's wrong to become upset within a millisecond of discovering that your wife is knocked up by another man...no matter what the circumstances.
Wow, what comments this epi is generating.
Urban:
Oh, I too was amused by the Friday the 13th mirror cracking. How cool it jived with the date. Now it's double whammies for poor JL. There is only one abortion, that went horribly wrong, that I remember in a TN and that was in "La Fuerza Del Destino", when Ivan's Mama, Alicia went and had a backdoor one. I was surprised then, and I haven't seen one since. I think someone commented before they are only legal in Mexico City. I don't know why it's a dirty word either.
Jarifa:
I laughed so much at your Wah! Wah! Ale is acting like a big ole baby isn't he?
JudyB:
Thanks so much! BTW The Voice in Italy just wrapped up it's season and Suor Cristina won! I'm buying her first album : )
I get why Ale reacted the way he did, but as most everyone has said, he's been through this before. Why is he doing this again????
Diana:
Thank you so very kindly. I too hope Monse takes Lolo and has a peaceful pregnancy elsewhere. She had enough drama the last time. Oh, I agree with you about Sandho. I think Graceless made a huge mistake here and it will come back to bite her in the butt, hopefully ; )
Fatima:
Thank you so kindly : ) I too would like to see a strong female protag. One that doesn't need a man to lean on and make her own decisions. About the earworms. I have such a musical brain. I hear a song and remember it and then I'll watch this TN or Pobres, which I also recap and think, wow, it's perfect for this person, and Viola I go on Youtube and find it. It's like I have this unending musical catalogue in my brain : ) I think the Capitana is trying to be one of the boys, she probably does the hand on the knee unconsciously, but she knows how Refug felt about her and she should have skipped that.
Susanlynn:
I am doing the same as you, cleaning closets, getting rid of things to have more space and streamlined house. I do it in baby steps, so much easier than tackling everything at once. Please take time to relax, it's summer time, the lazy time of the year, and do baby steps : )
Urban:
I think the worst religious hypocrite I ever saw in a TN was Roselena Torreslanda, from "Refugio Para El Amor". She has the most horrid human being and used her faith to justify everything bad she did.
Romy
Thank you so kindly amigo : )
The reason I was a bit harsh with Monica cause well, she knew how Refug felt about her, she should have skipped the hand on the thigh thingy, jus' sayin' ; )
I must confess I have felt sorry for BM at times too. She's already done enough now, in reference to shooting Monse. I hope she's holstered the gun and does something positive, one can hope, can't one ; )
Anon 12:03:
What bothers me so much about Ale is that he did this one before with Monse, when she was preggers with Lolo and he thought it was JL's bebe and kicked her to the curb with nothing. He is basically doing the same thing again, but this time she has resources. I want him to grow up already and get over himself.
Caryn:
I agree with you, Monse needs to leave Aguazul with her children and to heck with this uberly macho men!
Anita:
I get so frustrated sometimes recapping this TN, I have to roll my eyes and be snarky. It's the only way : ) I really think the name of this TN should have been "What Is Love", cause they say they love, but do they really?
Elna June:
Thank you so very kindly. I too am wondering where our wonderful Capitana is! I hope she rejoins us soon. I agree with you about Ale parenting. He needs to grow up.
Romy:
I hope she doesn't lose the bebe. That would be too, too sad. Just cause the bebe is JL's doesn't mean Ale can't love it. He's just being pig headed.
Thanks for the recap. Funny and informative. Loved every word of it.
Happy Father's Day!
ITA with Cynderella and JudyB. Ale needs time to cool off. Montse being pregnant by JL is also bringing up memories of the past. When Ale thought Montse was pregnant by JL the first time because they had lied about "Antonio's" true identity. When he has time to think and realize that he will loose Montse he will accept the baby. His reaction was what I expected. If he had said, "OMG Montse, I am so excited! Shall we name the baby JoseLuis?" Then I would have thought something was wrong. Ale is a passionate person. He wears his heart on his shoulder. He has no poker face. Montse knew this would be Ale's reaction, so I am also glad that she stood her ground. That scene proved that she has matured. I also hope that it is a girl, because I do believe that will melt Ale's heart. Because it will be like a little Montse running around.
Monica is insensitive! How dare she wear that top with her flat belly showing to a pregnant woman's house! I don't blame Esme one bit for being pithed. Besides, Dimi and Monica interrupted their sex session. How Rude!
Out of time. I am on my way to have lunch with my dad!
Off to eat...hasta pronto!
Thank you kindly. Ale perturbs me so much, cause he reacted this way once before, when Monse was preggers with Lolo and he thought the bebe was JL's then too. I just thought he would have learned the first time. The bebe isn't responsible as Monse said, but Ale doesn't seem to get that.
Maricruz:
I am dreading Monday's epi, cause JL is so angry already, but in Monse's defense, I don't think she ever really thought she was preggers, but now she knows.
Demetrios:
The Capitan listened to Angelica and JL's story. As far as the charges went, I think they were dropped because of the planting of that gun to make JL look guilty for the murder of Bruno Gamboa.
Victoria Gomez:
I really hope that doesn't happen either, that JL is in a fit of rage and causes Monse to lose the bebe. I really think he'll yell a lot, but I don't think he'll be yanking her around. I'll comment more on JL later, how can I not?
Anon 6:07:
If they had left, we wouldn't be having all this melodrama, verdad : )
Cynderella:
For technical purposes Ale is NOT Monse's husband, it's really JL. Ale was "dead" for 7 years. If these writers had been realistic JL is Monse's husband and not Ale. Ale got over the fact that Monse married JL, what did Ale think they were doing? Playing house? Now you see why he perturbs me so : )
I so agree with everything you said.
Neice in MD:
I also agree with all you said too. JL did accept Lolo and has been treating him so nicely. If Ale truly loves Monse he's accept this child no matter what. He just needs to grow up.
AuntyAnn:
I hope you have a great lunch with your Dad : ) I too think Monse is maturing, and I am so glad she is standing up for herself with both of these jerks right now. What ticked me off about Ale so much when Monse said she wasn't going to get rid of the bebe, Ale said he didn't care about her opinion! That's what did it for me.
Thanks for this terrific, fun, and complete recap, Mads.
No one should have been surprised by Alejandro's explosive (and loutish) reaction to the news of Montserrat's pregnancy. The writers have been preparing us for several episodes ("The one thing I could never accept...") And they set up a goofy situation -- obviously someone else should have taken Montse to a doctor, or Josefina should have called a doctor to her house -- that guaranteed he would find out without a buffer. He will assimilate the news, but he will need some time to do so, as JudyB and others have pointed out.
Eventually, Rosario will surely point out that HER love for HIM has nothing to do with his sperm donor and that it is natural for Montserrat to feel the same way. But lots of rants will be ranted and tears will be shed before that happens. Thank goodness Fabiola is the only woman with the crappy, runny mascara.
As for Montserrat's own reaction, we have been set up for that too. She was the one who convinced Nadia not to abort. We know how she feels about the issue.
About JL's behavior in the past, I've always been bothered by his cavalier usurpation of the identity of the real Antonio Olivares. It is monstrous to steal a man's documents, hide his body, and leave his kith and kin to worry and wonder.
P.S. Elna June, I miss Cap'n Sylvia too and hope she will find her way back here very soon. However...[sigh]...I'm afraid I'm too much of a jerk to let this pass. ¡The Patio of Lowered Expectations™ es mío, mío, mío! ¡Ay caray!
[snort]
I think JL stealing Antiono Olivares' identity was a desperate means to an end. It wasn't right, but it got him into the Hacienda Almonte, his main objective and what he learned there, spying on Peddy, Loreto and EZ, was invaluable. Plus he met the lovely Angie there too.
Madelaine, I like frank convos, too, but most people seem loathe to participate. It's a darn shame.
Your music brain just amazes me!
Fatima
Last week Victor was criticized for meeting his daughter in the enclosed school courtyard. This week, Ale was seen lounging on the patio of Monse's cafe chatting with Monse and the staff, and now in the hospital. He's just as much of a fool as Victor-- even more so.
The guy is a jerk AND has no sense of humor. The only enjoyment he brings is looking at him, and that can be done from afar from any of the other tables. Even the Pedro table is more amusing. At least there I go in expecting our table host to be a jerk.
Zulema and Esme will be the judges.
I'm thinking along the same lines of AuntyAnn, JudyB and NovelaMaven. Eventually Ale will calm down and think things through. And I have a pretty good feeling Rosario will help nudge him in the right direction. He has a good heart, but it was upsetting to see him yelling at Montse and ordering her to get rid of the baby. I applaud Montse for standing her ground!
Maricruz
Sorry, but characters like him annoy the hell out of me.
Madeline "If they had left we wouldn't be having this melodrama" - true, but I would be cool with that! I'm soo ready for this tn to move along and be over with!
Anon 6:07
Alejandro is definitely a guy with a conscience, so this too shall pass.
The problem is that JL will make it difficult for him which -- in the long term -- will get himself on Lauro's sh*t list as well as Monse's.
I think that JL wanted to escape custody because he was truly innocent and no one would believe him but Refug. Refug clearly jumped the gun so to speak. I guess the LT was following orders, but I really thought for a moment there the LT was going to shoot JL, it was a very tense scene. It is always so good to see you here and I always like your comments : )
Romy:
What an interesting saying!
Nanette:
I'm with you! This TN is dragging, but if you think about it, it is almost an upside version of what happened the first half of this TN, switch out Ale and JL and there you have it. Of course, I'm waiting to see how the writers resolve these issues.
Anon 6:07:
I think it will be moving along here, they can't be playing this out much longer. The viewers would get bored and bail, so they have to be giving us some nuggets of resolution to some of these storylines. Nothing major of course, but small nuggets ; )
Cheryl:
I am so glad you are here with us. I agree about the subplots, very clever writers I must say. I really like how all the actors are bringing their A game, so to speak, and you are right, Monse has come a long way from the beginning.
Now he is being a cad as Cheryl said, by not listening to Monse every time she says she wants a divorce. Ale isn't lily white either. I couldn't stand it when he kept Monse prisoner on the Hacienda, and had her followed all over the place and by Juvie, remember him?, to boot.
Both Ale and JL are very complicated and handle things concerning Monse in almost the same manner, don't you think? The tempers, the jealousy, the wanting to own Monse. Both are very obsessive over her. I will be curious to see what JL does when he finds out for sure, that Ale is in Aguazul. Will he go the duel route again, will he lock Monse up? How will Ale handle this pregnancy? Right now he is doing the same thing he did before. Will he finally realize that he is wrong? Can JL work past his jealousy and hate and let Monse go eventually? All points to ponder, hmmmmmmmm?
Eeevil? Me? You've got me on that one, Cynderella. Grin.
And here I was thinking that I had pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. Hee hee hee.
EJ
May I beg 1000 pardons for the mis-attribution of the creation of the Patio to our beloved Sylvia? Perdoname, por favor. I remember the Patio's creation, during the abismo of Abismo, but I remembered INCORRECTLY that it was Sylvia who first gave me a place to come and vent my frustration at the writers'twisted Nabakovian allusions.
I should have known it was you, dear Maven, that gave us the Haven. I offer you a bow in recognition of your genius. When Sylvia reads this, and I'll just bet you she will when she gets back to reliable wi-fi, I know that she too will offer thanks. The Patio is one of my favorite places to hang out.
Big Grin,
EJ
There, there, my friend. Misattributions happen. [Actually, I think I read that on a bumper sticker somewhere.] Why not select a nice Pinot Noir from the cellar in the Bunker of Ironic Detachment so we can drink to Poor Blind Nadia?
Sylvia, if you are reading this, I hope you will lift a glass with us!
My TEAM did it with Class. They are the 2014 NBA World Champions! See you ladies later, I'm celebrating right now!
GO SPURS GO!
Thanks so much for the terrific recap! Just checked the site this morning and saw 93 comments, so it looks like others admired and were inspired by your recap, too. It was all very well done and my favorite was the great opening:
"It's been so dark and cloudy here on the Patio of Disillusionment hasn't it? Now a fog seems to be moving in, with respect to some of these character's brains, that is."
I didn't get to see the episode because my car broke down Friday night, and I had to get it towed to the dealer. They still haven't repaired it, but they gave me a loaner of a sunny yellow convertible Beetle, so that was good! And reading your wonderful recap made me feel like I'd seen the episode anyway.
Best to all for a great week!
Julia R.
Regarding Spurs I am on cloud 9!!!! I am receivng congrats from former NYC co workers. Good to be in Alamo city.
Nanette
First off, thank you for the recap!!!
Second, glad Montse stood up to stupid Ale.
Really interested to see how Rosario reacts tonight. Remember when she had asked Montse before, she did it in a very demanding, almost accusatory tone. I wonder how she, and the rest, will take the news. Will it just pile more hate on JL? Probably. Though when he finds out, I'm afraid of what more lengths he will go to to keep Montse. Possible death spiral continues.
Thanks for the recent recaps: NM's impromptu cover of Wed.; Elna June's orderly character-driven capture of Thurs.; Madeleine's heartfelt detailed replay of Fri. I was held hostage by a project, so haven't visited here.
I'm looking forward to Pedro's visit north--hope it has evil results for him, good results for Poor Blind Nadia (great nickname).
I am so sorry about your car, but I love, love, love that yellow beetle. I always wanted a Carmen Ghia ; )
AuntyAnn:
I am so glad your team won. Are you another Texan?
Carvivlie:
I too am curious about how Rosy will react to this preggers news. I hope she is kind, like she usually is.
La Paloma:
I am so glad you are here, and I too hope it's Peddy's anvil he's going to. At least a pie cart ; )
Novella Lover:
Welcome to this TN. I haven't seen you comment before. I'm am glad you are joining us even if this TN is in the doldrums right now.
I'd also like to thank every single commenter for their very kind words.
I have lived in Texas off and on. My Grandparents were from Cleburne, My Daddy was stationed in San Antonio, back in the day, with the Army. Mr. Mads did recruiting duty for the Navy in Lufkin. Both my brothers live in Baytown. I have lived in the Mid Atlantic for many years now, but I go back and visit my brothers every two years or so. I keep Texas in my heart : )
